Cleveland police say 51-year-old Jeffrey Miller of Rocky River was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and failure to comply. Miller was spotted by video surveillance throwing the bottle and was followed with cameras. After the Jets took the lead, a video showed Haslam walking toward the tunnel in FirstEnergy Stadium when he was struck by the projectile. A person familiar with Browns' decision says the team intends to ban Miller from the stadium.

The Wind Surge struck first in the bottom of the second inning as they scored five runs and batted around. Surge newcomer Brooks Lee hit an RBI single to score a run and give the Surge an early 1-0 lead. Jair Camargo went two for five with two RBIs in the game, including an RBI single in the second inning that extended Wichita’s lead to 5-0.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer, Salvador Perez drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out double in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals held off the rapidly fading Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Tuesday night to open their final homestand of the season.

Dylan Coleman (5-2) pitched a scoreless seventh for the Royals, then Scott Barlow cleaned up Jose Cuas' mess by striking out Mark Contreras to strand runners on second and third in the eighth, before handling the ninth for his 22nd save.

“It was a tough game,” said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli, whose club has dropped five of six to begin an eight-game trip, including four of five to AL Central-leading Cleveland. “Things didn't go the way we would have liked.”

The Royals trailed 3-0 in the second, pulled ahead in the fifth and were still tied 4-all when Melendez doubled off Twins reliever Michael Fulmer (5-6) in the seventh. Bobby Witt Jr. followed with a double, then took third when Melendez tried to score and was thrown out by Twins left fielder Jake Cave on a bang-bang play at the plate.

Perez came through on the very next pitch, though, dumping the go-ahead double down the right-field line.

“He just swells in those situations,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “You need that guy who says, ‘OK, I’m going to take care of this.'"

Kansas City, which was swept in three games at Target Field last week, had lost 12 of its last 14 to the Twins.

The Twins appeared to be continuing their mastery of the Royals this season, too, when they jumped ahead 3-0 in the second on Matt Wallner's run-scoring double and a two-run single by Carlos Correa.

They nearly pushed another run across in the third, too, but Royals starter Zack Greinke struck out Gio Urshela and Cave, ending the threat while picking up his 1,000th strikeout in a Kansas City uniform.

“Just an incredible accomplishment,” Matheny said.

Melendez's two-out homer in the third got Kansas City within 3-2, then Hunter Dozier's shot leading off the fifth tied the game and ended a streak of 115 at-bats without a home run. Witt added a go-ahead RBI single later in the inning.

Cave answered for the Twins off reliever Amir Garrett to tie the game 4-all in the sixth.

Greinke allowed four runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for Kansas City. Twins counterpart Dylan Bundy allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.

“Just poor execution with a couple of pitches,” Bundy said. “I've got to work deeper into games and I haven't done that.”

Correa was thrown out at second base in the seventh inning, and the tag hit his lower right leg and left the Twins shortstop laying on the ground. He said afterward that “it just felt numb,” but Correa felt good enough to finish out the game.

Twins RHP Sonny Gray went on the injured list with a strained right hamstring that occurred during a start Sept. 2 against the White Sox. He threw just 44 pitches before a recurrence of the hamstring issues that he had in April.

“I don’t see him pitching if we’re not in it,” Baldelli said, ”but he’s going to stay mentally ready.”

RHP Trevor Megill was reinstated from the COVID-19 list and RHP Dereck Rodriguez was outrighted off the 40-man roster.

For the first time in her career, Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer sophomore Aimee Maher was named the KJCCC Division I Player of the Week.

Maher, a third-year player from Ireland, netted her first-career hat trick in the 6-0 home victory last Wednesday over Dodge City. All three goals were scored in a span of 20 minutes in the second half. Maher tallied seven points against Dodge City, which also included as an assist on a goal by Maren Lackey.

In s 3-1 road loss to Johnson County, Maher had the opening goal in the 18th minute off a deep pass from sophomore Ella-Mae Miller that was redirected by sophomore Hadlie Lowe right to Maher.

Maher is the second Blue Dragon to receive Jayhawk Conference weekly recognition. Sophomore Olivia Felix-Cardona was named the Jayhawk and NJCAA goalkeeper of the week on Sept. 6, 2022.

This season, Maher is Hutchinson’s second-leading scorer with 13 points. She has scored five goals and has three assists.

PUEBLO, Colorado – The NJCAA No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College Men’s Golf Team posted their third-straight under-par round and finished second in the season-opening Farmers’ Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational at Walking Stick Golf Club on Tuesday.

Sophomore Dominic Clemons was the only Blue Dragon to place in the Top 10, individually, with a fifth-place performance. Louis Ross, Blake Saffell and Alex Lindstrom all finished inside the Top 25 of the 64-player field.

The Blue Dragons posted a 1-under par 287 in the final round on Tuesday. The Dragons counted scores from freshman Alex Lindstrom (69), Louis Galvin (71), Clemons (73). Saffell and Louis Ross both shot 74s on Tuesday.

Hutchinson tied for the sixth-lowest team round on Tuesday, tying Fort Lewis College and Dallas Baptist.

Tournament host CSU-Pueblo completed its wire-to-wire domination with a 54-hole score of 822, which is 42 strokes under park. CSU-Pueblo shot a 277 on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons were second at 8-under 855. Colorado Mesa was third at 5-under 859. Dodge City was the only other Jayhawk Conference team in the field of 12 teams. The Conquistadors shot 5-over 293 and finished ninth at 881 (+17).

Clemons carded a 1-over 73 on Tuesday with two birdies and three bogeys. He finished fifth at 7-under 209. This was Clemons’ second career Top 5 finish in a tournament.

Despite a final-round 74 on Tuesday, Ross finished 18th overall in his first collegiate tournament at 217.

With a pair of late birdies, Saffell closed out a tough start to the final round strong and finished with a 74. Saffell tied for 21st at 219.

Lindstrom had a big comeback day on Tuesday. After closing Monday with a 78, Lindstrom rebounded with a team-low 3-under 69. Lindstrom carded five birdies and two bogeys on Tuesday. Lindstrom tied for 24th at 220.

Galvin just missed the Top 25, tying for 26th at 221. After opening with a 79 on Monday, Galvin put together back-to-back 71s.

Blue Dragon individual player Addison Alonzo tied for 44th at 227 after a final-round 77 on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons will next compete in the NJCAA National Preview next week where most of the NJCAA’s top teams will compete. The National Preview is October 27 and 28 and Sand Creek Station in Newton.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was suspended by the NFL for four games Monday for violating its personal conduct policy. Gay was arrested in January in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas, and charged with misdemeanor criminal property damage of less than $1,000. Gay’s representative, Maxx Lepselter, said at the time that Gay broke a vacuum that belonged to the mother of his son during an argument in which nobody was harmed. Gay agreed to a diversion program in June to resolve the criminal case.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay receiver Mike Evans has been suspended without pay for one game for his role in a scuffle that resulted in him and New Orleans cornerback Marshon Lattimore being ejected from the Buccaneers-Saints game. The NFL said Evans violated unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct rules by knocking Lattimore to the ground when the Buccaneers star intervened in a confrontation that initially involved Lattimore and Bucs teammates Tom Brady and Leonard Fournette. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was suspended by the NFL for four games Monday for violating its personal conduct policy. Gay was arrested in January in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas, and charged with misdemeanor criminal property damage of less than $1,000. Gay’s representative, Maxx Lepselter, said at the time that Gay broke a vacuum that belonged to the mother of his son during an argument in which nobody was harmed. Gay agreed to a diversion program in June to resolve the criminal case.TAMPA, Fla. Class 6A No. 1 Manhattan had its hands full on the road at Class 5A No. 4 Hays, trailing 14-10 at halftime. But the Indians clamped down on Hays in the second half, Indian quarterback Keenan Schartz threw for a career-high 204 yards and Manhattan escaped Hays with a 31-21 win. The biggest showdown for last week’s No. 1s was Eight-Player Division I Hill City taking on Eight-Player Division II No. 3 Thunder Ridge. The ranked powers engaged in a defensive battle for three quarters with Hill City leading 14-6 at halftime and 20-14 at the end of the third. The Ringnecks then erupted for 28 fourth-quarter points to pull away for a 48-22 win. There was limited movement in the rankings below the No. 1s. In Class 6A, 3-0 Gardner-Edgerton moved into the rankings at No. 5 after No. 3 Blue Valley lost to No. 4 Blue Valley Northwest 48-24. 🏈 KSHSAA Football Rankings after week 3

A timely bye week has come and gone for the Hutchinson Community College football team.

Starting the season with three victories, two against nationally ranked opponents, the Blue Dragons remained No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I Football Rankings released on Monday.

Hutchinson hits the road for its Jayhawk Conference opener on Saturday, opening the season at Coffeyville. The Blue Dragons and Red Ravens kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Coffeyville's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Coffeyville (2-1 overall, 2-1 Jayhawk Conference is receiving votes in the Week 4 rankings and are too coming off a bye week. The Red Ravens lost to Independence back on Sept. 10 in an 18-5 home loss to the Pirates.

Last season, the Blue Dragons opened the 2021 season at Coffeyville as the preseason No. 1-ranked team and was stunned 17-10 by the eventual regular-season Jayhawk Conference champions. The Blue Dragons were held to their lowest point total of the season and couldn't overtime seven turnovers.

Playing just one match last week, the Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team moved up one spot in the national rankings on Monday.

The Blue Dragons moved up to No. 16 in the latest NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Rankings. This is the fourth-straight week the Blue Dragons have been ranked.

Hutchinson’s only action last week was a 3-1 Jayhawk West road victory at Colby last Wednesday. That victory improved the Blue Dragons to 16-5 overall and 4-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.

The Blue Dragons play five matches this week with a home conference match against Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. Hutchinson plays host to the Blue Dragon Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Sports Arena.

Florida Southwestern remains undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the latest rankings. Indian Hills, Scot and Salt Lake remain Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Miami-Dade moves up to No. 5.

Seward County remains the highest-ranked Jayhawk Conference team at No. 12. Hutchinson is the only other KJCCC ranked in the Top 20, but Butler is receiving votes.

STEVE CARPENTER HutchCC Sports InformationPlaying just one match last week, the Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team moved up one spot in the national rankings on Monday.The Blue Dragons moved up to No. 16 in the latest NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Rankings. This is the fourth-straight week the Blue Dragons have been ranked.Hutchinson’s only action last week was a 3-1 Jayhawk West road victory at Colby last Wednesday. That victory improved the Blue Dragons to 16-5 overall and 4-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.The Blue Dragons play five matches this week with a home conference match against Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. Hutchinson plays host to the Blue Dragon Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Sports Arena.Florida Southwestern remains undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the latest rankings. Indian Hills, Scot and Salt Lake remain Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Miami-Dade moves up to No. 5.Seward County remains the highest-ranked Jayhawk Conference team at No. 12. PUEBLO, Colorado – Sophomore Dominic Clemons fired a pair of 68s and the NJCAA top-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team posted a pair of under-par rounds on Opening Day of the 2022 Fall season on Monday.

Both Clemons and the Blue Dragons find themselves in second place after two rounds of the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Classic at Walking Stick Golf Course.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament will be Tuesday morning.

The Blue Dragons posted an opening-round of 283 on Monday morning led by Clemons’ 4-under 68 and freshman Louis Ross’ 2-under 70. The Dragons gave a couple of strokes back late in the afternoon round and finished at 3-under 285. Once again Clemons led the way with a 68.

Hutchinson is at 8-under 568 through two rounds. The Blue Dragons trail tournament host CSU-Pueblo, which blitzed its home course with a 31-under 545 after rounds of 272 and 273 on Monday. Colorado Mesa is third at 581 and Fort Lewis College is fourth at 583. Dodge City is sixth at 588.

Clemons started his day off with seven straight pars. He then had an eagle, four birdies and one bogey in his opening-round 68. Clemons had seven birdies and three bogeys in his second round on Monday.

Through 36 holes Clemons is at 8-under 136 and is two strokes off the leading pace of CSU-Pueblo’s Matt Millar, who fired a pair of 67s and is at 10-under 134.

Ross, who started his Blue Dragon career with back-to-back birdies, is tied for 11th with two other golfers at 1-under 143. Ross opened with a 70 and finished Monday with a 73.

Sophomore Blake Saffell had an eagle in his opening-round 72. Saffell finished with a 73 and is tied for 19th at 1-over 145.

Freshman Louis Galvin is tied for 33rd at 150. Galvin opened with a 79, but had an eagle, four birdies and two double bogeys in an afternoon round 71.

Freshman Alex Lindstrom is tied for 39th at 151 after rounds of 73 and 78.

Sophomore Addison Alonzo, who is playing as an individual, had a tough start on Monday with an opening-round 80. Alonzo made a 10-stroke improvement in the afternoon round with a 70. He is tied for 33rd at 150.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was suspended by the NFL for four games Monday for violating its personal conduct policy.

Gay was arrested in January in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas, and charged with misdemeanor criminal property of damage of less than $1,000. Gay's representative, Maxx Lepselter, said at the time that Gay broke a vacuum that belonged to the mother of his son during an argument in which nobody was harmed.

Gay agreed to a diversion program in June to resolve the criminal case.

There was no appeal of the penalty, so Gay will miss Sunday's game in Indianapolis along with games against Tampa Bay, Las Vegas and Buffalo.

NFL rules prohibit him from interacting with the team during the first two weeks.

The Chiefs, who parted with veteran Anthony Hitchens after last season, are counting heavily on Gay to help solidify the linebacker spot alongside second-year pro Nick Bolton. Gay started their first two games against the Cardinals and Chargers and is tied for second on the team in tackles, tackles for loss and passes defended.
