ARKANSAS CITY – The Hutchinson Community College baseball team couldn't sustain the offensive momentum from Thursday's doubleheader split against Cowley College on Saturday at Tiger Field.

The Blue Dragons were limited to a combined 10 hits in a doubleheader loss to the Tigers. Cowley won both games Saturday 6-0 and 9-5.

Hutchinson dropped to 20-22 after dropping the series to Cowley 3-1. The Blue Dragons play host to the Sterling College Junior Varsity at 4 p.m. on Monday in a single game Hobart-Detter Field. Cowley is now 27-12.

⚾️ Blue Dragons drop pair at Cowley

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Aria Pearce is making waves at the KU Relays in Lawrence.

She put the state on notice when she was just a 7th grader in Sharon Springs. Now an 8th grader at Rock Creek Middle School in St. George, Pearce is competing unattached in the women's division of the 100m and 200m sprints at the 100th edition of the Kansas Relays.

Pearce placed 2nd in the 100m finals, turning in an 11.66 seconds run. She was champion of the women's 200m sprint (24.16 seconds), besting Zaniya King of Indian Hills CC and Isabella Kupka of Cowley College.

In the preliminary heats on Friday, Pearce put up a time of 11.50 that was the second-fastest in the 100m dash in United States middle school history. In the 200m dash, she ran a 23.79 seconds time that would be the fastest in Kansas High School history. Both were personal bests for Pearce.

👟 Rock Creek middle school star shining at KU Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Two Salthawk track and field teammates shined in the high school portion of the Kansas Relays this weekend. Competition began Thursday and wrapped up on Saturday.

Salthawk seniors Grady Bare and AnnaLisa Cullens represented Hutch High and did it in grand style.

The Salthawks hurdle coach Tina Johnson indicated that there were up to nine different states represented in the high school divisions, placing her athletes in the "best of the best" in track and field athletics.

Grady Bare finished in eighth place in the shot put, while AnnaLisa Cullen was crowned champion in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.34 seconds. She placed third (46.08 seconds) in the 300-meter hurdles, bested only by the Missouri and Arkansas state champions.

KSHSAA Track and Field Regionals will take place May 18 with the state meet taking place at Wichita State's Cessna Stadium on May 26 and 27.

HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Salthawks dropped a pair of games to the Haysville-Campus Colts on Friday evening at Hobart-Detter Field. The Salthawks dropped the opener 12-1 before falling 11-4 in the second game.

Campus jumped out in front early in the first game with a 5-run first inning behind three doubles, two of which drove in two runs each. The Colts added four more in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to secure the 5-inning run-rule victory.

The Salthawks lone run was plated in the third inning on a Caiden Beavers single following a triple from Carter Morgan. Hutchinson finished the game with six hits, five of which were singles.&nbsp;

The second game saw Campus take a 3-1 lead through two innings, and then the Colts did the severe damage with an 8-run third inning. Campus chased Bentley Eckhoff out of the game after 2.1 innings pitched, allowing four hits and eight runs.

The Colts would not score again after the 8-run third, going scoreless the final four frames. While the Salthawks bullpen did their job in the latter parts of the game, the Hutch offense struggled. The Salthawks ended the game with just three hits, two of which were from Lakin Franz including a triple and a single.&nbsp;

The Salthawks are on the road on Tuesday when they will travel to Dean Evans Stadium in Salina to face the Salina South Cougars. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and can be heard on Hutch Post, as well as the NFHS Network.

⚾ Salthawks drop both to Campus

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas head coach Brandon Schneider has been named the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) Women’s Four-Year College Coach of the Year for the 2022-23 season.

This is the third KBCA Coach of the Year award for Schneider, who also earned the honor in 2006 and 2010 as the head coach at Emporia State. He’s the third Kansas women’s basketball coach to claim the award, joining Bonnie Henrickson (2012) and Marian Washington (1992). Kansas has had three men’s basketball coaches earn the KBCA award a total of 13 times in Bill Self (2022, 2008, 2004), Roy Williams (2003, 2002, 1998, 1997, 1993, 1992, 1991, 1990) and Larry Brown (1988, 1984). The KBCA has named college coaches of the year since 1984.

Schneider guided the Jayhawks to a 25-11 record during the 2022-23 season and Kansas won the 2023 WNIT Championship with victories over Western Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas, Washington and Columbia. KU played all six postseason games at Allen Fieldhouse and finished 19-3 at home, setting a new single-season program record for home wins. KU recorded 25 wins in a season for the sixth time in school history and first since 1996-97.

The Jayhawks returned to the Top 25 for the first time since 2013, earning a national ranking for five weeks in December and January. KU was the last unbeaten team in the Big 12 after starting 10-0 for the fourth-best start in program history. Included in the unbeaten start was a 77-50 victory at No. 12 Arizona on Dec. 8, which matched the largest margin of victory over a Top 25 opponent in program history.

Schneider earned career victory No. 500 on Feb. 26 with a 66-57 victory over Oklahoma State at Allen Fieldhouse. Schneider, who is 508-274 (65.0%) as a head coach, is one of 33 active Division I coaches with more than 500 career victories.

This is the second Coach of the Year award for Schneider while at Kansas. He was named the 2022 Big 12 Coach of the Year after guiding Kansas to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013.

🏀 WBB: KU's Brandon Schneider named KBCA Coach of the Year

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The Jayhawks competed on the second day of the 100th Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday at Rock Chalk Park. The Jayhawks strung together various first place finishes and personal best marks, one of which set a new school and national record.&nbsp;

Kansas had six athletes finish in first place and six athletes record personal bests.&nbsp;

In the men’s discus throw, sophomore Dimitrios Pavlidis threw a stellar personal best mark of 64.90m on his third attempt. Pavlidis’ previous personal best 59.73m, which he threw at Texas State back on March 30. Today’s 64.90m mark is not only the new school record, but also the new Greek national record, which is where Pavlidis reigns from. Pavlidis’ record tops the previous school record of 63.98m set by Mitchell Cooper in 2017.

Senior Patrick Larrison also had himself a day in the discus throw, taking second with a 59.92 new personal best mark, while freshman Joseph Kieny also unlocked a new personal best of 55.37m to secure fifth place overall in the event.&nbsp;

In the women’s high jump, senior Rylee Anderson secured her second victory in a row on a 1.83m clearance.&nbsp;

Both 4×800 squads from Kansas had great outings today as well. The men’s relay team of A.J. Green, Sawyer Schmidt, Tanner Talley and T.J. Robinson finished first overall with their 7:35 time. The Jayhawks’ first women’s DMR team of this outdoor season secured a comfortable victory, running a quick 12:16.37.&nbsp;

Tori Thomas represented the female throws squad well today, winning the women’s shot put with her 15.10m throw.&nbsp;

Two Jayhawks advanced to the finals in the open 400m, with Grant Lockwood finishing second and running a new PR of 48.02, while Michael Joseph took eighth with his time of 49.12.&nbsp;

Kansas’ hurdlers had an impressive showing as well, with Cameron Wilmington and Jameir Colbert taking first and second in the 400m hurdles, respectively, to both advance to tomorrow’s finals. Anna Siemens (third) and Addison Brooks (fifth) also both moved through to the 400m hurdles on the women’s side.

Ashley Wallace and Kaycee McCoy also both moved onto the finals in the 110m hurdles, finishing third and seventh respectively.

In the women’s triple jump, Clare Fallon and Charli Foreman both hit new personal bests, while Saudia Heard secured second place overall in the event to be the Jayhawks’ highest finisher. Jaden Patterson was the lone men’s representative in the triple jump, taking third place overall.

Samantha Van Hoecke led the way for the women’s pole vault squad today, taking second place overall with a 4.17m jump. Gabby Hoke was close behind, clearing 4.2m and placing third in the event.

The Jayhawks will round out the Kansas Relays with a final day of competition. The remainder of the meet will take place at both Rock Chalk Park and Anschutz Pavilion (see meet hub for updated locations and times).

Today’s 64.90m mark is not only the new school record, but also the new Greek national record, which is where Pavlidis reigns from. Pavlidis’ record tops the previous school record of 63.98m set by Mitchell Cooper in 2017.Senior Patrick Larrison also had himself a day in the discus throw, taking second with a 59.92 new personal best mark, while freshman Joseph Kieny also unlocked a new personal best of 55.37m to secure fifth place overall in the event.&nbsp;In the women’s high jump, senior Rylee Anderson secured her second victory in a row on a 1.83m clearance.&nbsp;Both 4×800 squads from Kansas had great outings today as well. LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;In the first of three games in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown, Kansas State defeated Kansas 5-4 at Hoglund Ballpark on Friday. Kansas dropped its first game at home this season despite multi-hit efforts from sophomore Chase Jans and freshman Kodey Shojinaga.

Kansas was able to get on the board early with a pair of runs in the first inning. With runners on first and second, junior Janson Reeder doubled down the left field line to score freshman Shojinaga. Next up, redshirt sophomore Jake English hit an RBI groundout to give Kansas a 2-0 lead.

K-State (22-14, 7-6 Big 12) came back in the third inning to take its first lead of the game. The first four Wildcats runners that came to the plate reached base in the fourth, which included an RBI triple and RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Then, a couple batters later Nick Goodwin hit a two-run homer to put K-State ahead 4-2.

The Jayhawks put together a rally in the fifth to tie up the game. After a flyout to start the bottom of the fifth, Jans singled and Shojinaga hit a double down the left field line. Elvis was next in line and he sent a ball back up the middle for a two-run single and to even the game at 4-4.

In the sixth, KU had a chance to take the lead with runners on first and second but K-State was positioned perfectly on defense. Shojinaga hit a hard ground ball up the middle that was fielded cleanly and turned into an out at first.

The Wildcats retook the lead in the eighth inning. A hit by pitch started the inning, followed by a well-executed hit and run to set up runners on first and third one out. Roberto Pena then put down a bunt hit to score the runner from third and give K-State a 5-4 advantage.

Kansas was unable to get a baserunner on in the final three innings.

Graduate Collin Baumgartner started for Kansas on Friday afternoon. He was only able to go four innings while allowing four runs on six hits. Junior Thaniel Trumper followed Baumgartner on the mound and matched his career high with six strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Thumper did not allow a hit despite getting the loss after putting the go-ahead run on base with a hit by pitch.

LAWRENCE, Kan. —&nbsp;For the first time since 2016, Kansas Softball defeated No. 8 Texas, downing the Longhorns 9-3 in the opening game of a three-game Big 12 series Friday night at Red &amp; Charline McCombs Field.

Kansas improves to 20-7 (2-5 Big 12) on the year while dropping Texas to 34-9-1 (6-4 Big 12). The win snaps a 15-game losing streak for the Jayhawks against UT. The second game of the series will be played on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT.

The Jayhawks prevailed over Texas behind a complete game from junior left hander Kasey Hamilton in the circle and two home runs from sophomore Olivia Bruno.

“We’ve been talking about how close we were,” Head Coach Jennifer McFalls said following the victory. “We weren’t caught up in rankings or anything like that. Texas is a great program, we obviously know they’re in the top-10. The whole focus was on us this week and our plan of attack. I had one word for them before the game, ‘believe’, and they just had to trust themselves. We got it from everywhere tonight, in the circle, offensively and defensively. Just really proud of our fight. Total team effort tonight.”

The Jayhawks got the bats going quick. Senior center fielder Shayna Espy swung at the first pitch of the night, hitting it off the wall for a stand-up double. Freshman left fielder Presley Limbaugh drew a walk in the next at-bat, which was followed by a three-run blast over the left field fence from Bruno, giving Kansas a 3-0 in the top of the first.

The Jayhawks added three more runs in the top of the third to build a 6-0 advantage. Bruno hit her second home run of the game and seventh of the season in her second at-bat. The solo home run which made it 4-0 was followed by a single and a stolen base by junior catcher Lyric Moore.

Senior third baseman Ashlyn Anderson reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a wild throw by the shortstop. That error also scored Moore from second. After a groundout advanced Anderson to third, junior utility player Savanna DesRochers singled to left, extending the Jayhawks lead to 6-0.

Texas was able to get runs across in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a pair of doubles and a fielder’s choice, cutting Kansas’ lead to 6-2.

KU responded in the top of the fifth with two runs. Anderson drew a walk, which gave freshman outfielder Aynslee Linduff a chance to put down a sacrifice bunt and with no one covering third, Anderson advanced two bases. DesRochers played small ball, laying down a suicide squeeze to score Anderson. DesRochers advanced to second on the play and eventually reached third and scored on a pair of wild pitches, which put Kansas up 8-2 in the fifth.

The Longhorns added another run in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a sacrifice fly with a runner on third.

Heading into the top of the seventh, KU held an 8-3 lead, but senior outfielder Peyton Renzi would hit Kansas’ third home run of the game to left, adding a run and increasing the Jayhawk’s lead to 9-3.

The Jayhawks will face off in the second game of the series against No. 8 Texas Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT on the Longhorn Network.

🥎 Jayhawks take down No. 8 Texas in Austin

Wichita, KS – The Wind Surge hit a season-high four homers on Friday night and beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 7-3.

Yoyner Fajardo hit the first dinger of the night in the first inning. Jake Means hit a homer for the Naturals to tie it up 1-1 in the second.

Wichita turned up the momentum in the third. Jake Rucker hit a two-run shot, scoring Yoyner Fajardo. Yunior Severino hit a two-run shot, scoring DaShawn Keirsey Jr. Rucker and Severino hit their first homers of the season against the Naturals.

Northwest Arkansas hit another dinger in the fifth. Jorge Bonifacio homered on a fly ball to left field.

Alex Isola hit the last homer of the night, scoring Yunior Severino. The Naturals started to mount a comeback in the sixth when John Rave hit an RBI single in the sixth, scoring Peyton Wilson.

Jake Means hit an RBI single in the ninth, scoring John Raves but that was the last for the Naturals.

Pitcher Travis Adams started for the Surge and earned the win. He pitched five innings and struck out seven. He allowed two home runs, two runs and two hits. Jose Bravo came in and pitched a little over two innings and struck out two. He allowed one run and two hits. Kody Funderburk closed it out. Jonathan Bowlan got the loss.

Wichita leads the Naturals 3-1 in its first homestand of the 2023 season and improved to 5-2 on the season.

NOTES – The Surge hit a season-high four home runs this evening. Two players homered for the first time this season. The Wind Surge have scored first in all seven games. The lead-off home run by Fajardo was the first lead off since last August, Edouard Julien.

Heat eliminate Bulls 102-91, will face Bucks in Round 1

MIAMI (AP) — Max Strus and Jimmy Butler scored 31 points apiece, and the Miami Heat got into the playoffs by rallying in the final minutes to beat the Chicago Bulls 102-91 in an Eastern Conference play-in game Friday night. Tyler Herro added 12 points and Bam Adebayo grabbed 17 rebounds for Miami, which trailed by six midway through the final quarter. DeMar DeRozan led the Bulls with 26 points and nine assists.

Jokic, Embiid, Antetokounmpo finalists for NBA MVP award

NEW YORK (AP) — Nikola Jokic is a finalist to win a third straight NBA MVP award, with Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo the players who can stop him. The three leading vote-getters for the league's individual awards were announced Friday and the marquee category featured familiar names. Jokic repeated as MVP last year, with Embiid the runner-up and Antetokounmpo third. The Denver Nuggets center could now become the first player to win three straight MVP awards since Hall of Famer Larry Bird from 1984-86. Silicon Valley councilman indicted in 49ers report leak

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A Silicon Valley city councilman has been charged with perjury after he allegedly lied about leaking a grand jury report to the San Francisco 49ers last year that detailed a purportedly unethical relationship between the team and the city council. That's according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. Santa Clara City Councilmember Anthony Becker is accused of providing the secret report titled "Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Santa Clara City Council" to the team's former top spokesperson and a local media outlet in 2022, days ahead of its official release. Becker then allegedly lied about the leak. Becker did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. The team says it has cooperated with prosecutors.

With Boston Marathon win, Kipchoge would cap running resume

BOSTON (AP) — Eliud Kipchoge will make his Boston Marathon debut on Monday in the 127th edition of the world's longest-running long run. A victory would give him wins in an unprecedented five of the six major marathons. The 38-year-old Kenyan has already won Berlin, London, Chicago and Tokyo. He also has gold medals from the last two Olympics. And he holds the world record at the 26.2-mile distance. But he acknowledges that no marathoner's record is complete without running Boston at least once. Kipchoge's arrival in Boston has created an unprecedented buzz around this year's race. Even his competitors say they are excited to try to beat him.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) —&nbsp;Matt Olson and Austin Riley hit consecutive home runs in a four-run first inning and the Atlanta Braves went deep five times in a 10-3 rout of the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.

Sam Hilliard, Sean Murphy and Ronald Acuña Jr. also homered for the Braves, with Hilliard hitting a 448-foot drive beyond the bullpen in right in the second inning. Murphy had three RBI.

“Ronnie has been setting the tone like crazy,” Olson said of Acuña. “Every time my spot comes around it feels like I've been hitting with him on base.”

Riley's home run was the 100th of his big league career.

“It's fun to come to the yard every day.,” he said.

Brady Singer (1-1) allowed four of the homers, one shy of his career high, and gave up eight runs and 10 hits in five innings as his ERA rose to 7.88.

“I made some really bad pitches,” Singer said. "It kind of boils down to leaving a lot of pitches middle of the plate there..”

Braves manager Brian Snitker was ejected in the second inning for arguing. Umpires had placed runners on first and second after a ball Olson hit off the left-field wall was ruled foul, then changed to fair. Murphy followed with a two-run double.

“They got the call right, but I don't think they placed the runners in the right spot," Snitker said. "You have one of the fastest guys in Major League Baseball at first and you're going to put him at second base on a ball down the line off the wall? I would have been OK if they would have scored him."

Morton (2-1) allowed three runs — two earned — and six hits in six innings.

“He kept getting out of trouble, and he has pitches to do that," Snitker said.

Vaughn Grissom had an RBI double in the first.

Kansas City scored on Morton's error in the first, Michael Massey's sacrifice fly in the fourth and when Kyle Isbel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Braves: RHP Collin McHugh, on the injured list since April 6 with right shoulder inflammation, traveled with the team and could be activated as soon as he is eligible, according to Snitker… C Travis d’Arnaud, on the 7-day concussion IL since April 9, is making progress and is on schedule to return, Snitker said. ... INF Orlando Arcia was put on the 10-day IL with a left wrist fracture. ... Grissom was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Royals: Dylan Coleman was optioned to Triple-A Omaha following Wednesday’s game. Coleman had appeared in five games, allowing 10 runs on seven hits and seven walks in five innings. RHP Josh Staumont was recalled from Maha after four scoreless outings with seven strikeouts and one walk.

RHP Bryce Elder (1-0, 0.00 ERA) starts for the Braves on Saturday and LHP Kris Bubic (0-1, 1.64) for the Royals.

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Registration is now open for 2023 K-State Women's Basketball Camps which include Junior High Camp, Elite Camp and Day Camp. 

Each camp is run by the K-State Women's Basketball coaching staff, offering instruction to athletes of all levels, and held at Ice Family Basketball Center.&nbsp; The 2023 Junior High Camp will be a four-day camp from June 19-22 from 11 a.m., to 4 p.m., each day. The cost of the camp is $295 per camper with lunch provided each day. This is not an overnight camp, so campers will need to be dropped off and picked up every day. Campers will attend a 4-day camp guided by some of the best coaches in the country. This camp is for girls entering 5th - 8th grade who want to focus on fundamentals and applying their skill to competition. Camp includes skill instruction, position work, competitive drills and games.&nbsp; The 2023 Elite Camp will be held on June 27 for girls entering 9th to 12th grades. The cost per camper is $50. HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Salthawks baseball team will return to Hobart-Detter Field&nbsp; to host Haysville-Campus on Friday, April 14th. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Salthawks are off to an 0-6 start following two road losses at home last Tuesday at Mazie South, while the Colts are 3-6 on the season and come in to today's games after sweeping games at Salina South last Tuesday snapping a six game loosing streak.&nbsp;

Harris and Rales are set to pay $6.05 billion for the storied NFL franchise. It's the most money a professional sports franchise in North American has been sold for, topping the $4.65 billion paid by Walmart heir Rob Walton's group for the Denver Broncos last year. The sale of the Commanders is pending approval from the rest of the league's owners. That could happen as soon as their next meeting in Minnesota in May.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens acquired receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on a one-year deal worth up to $18 million including $15 million guaranteed. That agreement led to some obvious questions: Was this a sign that Beckham knew Lamar Jackson would be the quarterback in Baltimore this season? Or would the addition of a star wide receiver make it easier for the Ravens to keep their franchise quarterback? Beckham says he can’t make any promises about Jackson’s future. But the healing continues. And, for many, the race itself is an important part. Bombing survivors with no previous interest in distance running made it a bucket-list goal. For others, friends and family entered on their behalf. Doctors and first responders and others affected by the attacks on April 15, 2013, have also been drawn back to the race on the Massachusetts holiday of Patriots’ Day. The 127th Boston Marathon is Monday.

The helmet, manufactured by Vicis, reduces severity of helmet-to-ground impacts, which league data says account for approximately half of quarterback concussions, including the one suffered by Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa last season when his head slammed violently against the turf during a Thursday night game against Cincinnati. The helmet performed 7% better than the most popular helmet worn by quarterbacks last season, the league said in a memo sent to team executives on Thursday.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Viktor Hovland shot a 7-under 64 to take the first-round lead at the rain-delayed RBC Heritage. Masters champion Jon Rahm was eight shots back after a frustrating 1-over 72 and acknowledged the fatigue from his win at Augusta National affected him. Hovland also shared the first-round lead at the Masters and finished tied for seventh. He led Brian Harman by one shot at Harbour Town. 📢📰 Sports Headlines for Friday

WICHITA, Kan. — The first outing as the Turbo Tubs this season resulted in a 10-3 loss against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

The Surge started out in the lead when Alex Isola scored on a wild pitch in the second inning.

The Naturals tied it 1-1 in the fifth. The Surge answered when Seth Gray hit his first homer of the season to left center field in the fifth. Yoyner Fajardo hit an RBI single, scoring Armani Smith to give Wichita a 3-1 lead.

The game broke wide open in the sixth after the Naturals scored seven runs. NW Arkansas sent thirteen hitters to the plate and the Naturals had seven singles. Pitcher Hunter McMahon allowed five runs and six hits in less than half an inning and took the defeat.

David Festa got the start on the hill. He struck out six and walked one in about a little over five innings. Festa allowed three runs and five hits.

The winning pitcher was Anthony Veneziano.

The Wind Surge lead the series two games to one and fall to 4-2 on the season.

The Surge answered when Seth Gray hit his first homer of the season to left center field in the fifth. Yoyner Fajardo hit an RBI single, scoring Armani Smith to give Wichita a 3-1 lead.The game broke wide open in the sixth after the Naturals scored seven runs. NW Arkansas sent thirteen hitters to the plate and the Naturals had seven singles. Pitcher Hunter McMahon allowed five runs and six hits in less than half an inning and took the defeat.David Festa got the start on the hill. He struck out six and walked one in about a little over five innings. Festa allowed three runs and five hits.The winning pitcher was Anthony Veneziano.The Wind Surge lead the series two games to one and fall to 4-2 on the season.NOTES – Brooks Lee has a hit in all six games. ⚾ Wichita Wind Surge suffer first home loss Thursday

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2022-23/bios/cymbalista_colin_zaji">Colin Cymbalista</a>&nbsp;became the fourth Hutchinson Community College baseball player in program history to hit three home runs in one game as the Blue Dragons snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Cowley Tigers, winning Game 2 of a four-game series 18-12 Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field.

Cowley won the series opener 7-6 earlier on Thursday.

The Blue Dragons returned to the .500 mark at 20-20. Hutchinson's Game 2 victory snapped an 11-game winning streak for Cowley, which is now 25-12. Games 3 and 4 of the series will be on Saturday in Arkansas City.

The last time the Blue Dragons defeated the Tigers was a 7-3 victory in 2017.

Hutchinson combined to hit 10 home runs in the doubleheader, five in each game. The Blue Dragons had season highs in Game 2 in runs scored (18), hits (19), RBIs (17) and total bases (37), the Dragons tied season highs with five home runs and six batters being hit with pitches.

Cymbalista led the Blue Dragon power surge, going a combined 6 for 9 with five home runs a double and 10 RBIs.
