WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State women's golf head coach Tom McCurdy and the women's golf staff have announced their 2023-24 schedule.
The Shockers tee off on the new season in Springfield, Missouri on September 11th where they will compete in the Payne Stewart Invitational. It will be the third straight year that the Shockers play their season opener in Springfield.
Two weeks later, the Shockers will make their longest trip of the season, a jaunt up to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to compete in the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational that runs from September 24th to September 26th.
In their next tournament. the Shockers will look to defend their Big O Classic crown when they make the trip to Omaha, Nebraska to compete in the 2023 Big O Classic which plays from October 2nd to October 3rd. The women's golf team defeated host-school Creighton by two strokes to win the tournament last season.
The team rounds out fall season action with a trip to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, to battle in the Little Rock Golf Classic.
The spring season for the Shockers begins on February 23rd down in Rio Verde, Arizona at the Rio Verde Invitational.
In the spring, the Shockers will also compete in the Tulane Classic (March 10th-12th), the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona (March 16th-17th), and round out the regular season at the Oral Roberts Spring Invitational which runs April 8th-9th.
The American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Tournament is once again being hosted by Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Florida. The tournament begins on April 17th and concludes on April 19th.
Coach McCurdy's 2023-24 roster is made up of eight golfers which includes five returners. The returners are Madison Slayton (senior), Sarah Lawson (grad student), Brooklyn Benn (sophomore), Mackenzie Wilson (sophomore), and Lauren Thiele (redshirt freshman).
The Shockers will also welcome three new faces to this year's roster with two transfers from NCAA Division I programs and one true freshman. The transfers are senior Anna Takahashi, who comes to Wichita State from Sam Houston State, and the other is Kate Tilma, a Wichita native who comes to her hometown school after playing one year at Kansas State. The lone freshman on the roster is Hillary Currier, who comes to the Shockers after a very successful high school career at Blue Valley Southwest High School.
