MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;&ndash; The Big 12 Conference and FOX Sports announced on Sunday morning that K-State's Harley Day contest this Saturday against Texas Tech will kick off at 2:30 p.m., and be televised by FOX. It is the second time in as many home games that the Wildcats will host the afternoon FOX game, the other being a 41-28 win over TCU on October 11. K-State leads the all-time series over Texas Tech, 15-9, which includes wins in each of the last eight meetings. Two years ago in Lubbock, the Wildcats picks up a 38-21 victory, while they earned a 37-28 win in Manhattan in 2022. The teams did not meet last season. LIBERAL – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team earned its seventh road victory of the season Saturday afternoon to defeat the Seward County Saints 3-1 in a Jayhawk Conference matchup at the Green House.

The Blue Dragons rallied from late deficits in the three sets they won and defeated the Saints 28-26, 26-24, 17-25, 25-22 to even the season series with Seward County at 1-1.

Entering the final week of the 2025 regular season, the Blue Dragons improved to 14-15 overall and moved into a tie for sixth place in the KJCCC with Seward County at 7-7. Hutchinson will play host to Dodge City at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sports Arena for Sophomore Recognition night.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/villanueva_alondra_w1k3">Alondra Villanueva</a>&nbsp;had five kills in the opening set to lead a Blue Dragon comeback from a 21-16 deficit. The Dragons used an 8-3 run to knot the set at 24, then fought off two Saints' set points and won the set 28-26. The Dragons rallied from a 21-18 deficit in the second set, outscoring Seward County 8-3 to win the set.

After Seward County dominated the third set, holding the Dragons to negative-.059 in the set, the Blue Dragons trailed 19-14 in the fourth set. Led by&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/mcneil_jaylynn_8662">Jaylynn McNeill</a>'s six kills on .667 hitting and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/proctor_atlyn_jzx3">Atlyn Proctor</a>'s five kills on .333 hitting, the Blue Dragons closed the match with an 11-3 run.

Two Blue Dragons reached double figures in kills in a balanced attack for the Dragons against Seward County.

Villanueva had a team-high 15 kills on 48 attacks and posted her team-high 14th double-double of the season with 10 digs. Villanueva also had a service ace.

McNeill hit .370 for the match and finished with 14 kills on 27 attacks. Proctor had nine kills on .200 hitting. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/galliher_mattie_fggb">Mattie Galliher</a>&nbsp;had eight kills on .270 hitting and a team-high four blocks.

Sophomore setter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/reupena_angela_5uex">Angela Reupena</a>&nbsp;had 23 assists and four digs. 🏐 Dragons earn 4-set road win at Seward County

GREAT BEND – The No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team clinched second place in the 2025 Jayhawk Conference standings on Saturday, battling back from one-goal deficits twice to tie the Barton Cougars 2-2 at Cavanaugh Park.

The Blue Dragons extended their unbeaten streak to nine games (6 wins, 3 ties) to finish the regular season with an 11-2-4 record. The Dragons clinched second place in the KJCCC with an 8-2-4 record (28 points). The Dragons earn the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Region 6 Tournament, which begins on Saturday, November 1 at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2025-26/bios/tamaki_olivia_seh8">Olivia Tamaki</a>&nbsp;had a three-point game with a goal and an assist to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2025-26/bios/bacon_lucy_hpps">Lucy Bacon</a>&nbsp;scored a goal and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2025-26/bios/smith_poppy_opqw">Poppy Smith</a>&nbsp;added an assist.

Down 1-0 at halftime, the Blue Dragons and Cougars played a fast and furious 1 minute, 8 seconds early in the second half where three goals were scored.

First, off one of four Blue Dragon corner kicks, Tamaki delivered a kick right in front of the goal and Bacon used her left foot to blast as shot into the lower-right corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1 with 39:29 to play in the second half.

Just 54 seconds later after a Hutchinson foul, Barton delivered a free kick into the box and Ayaka Nagano scored from 5 yards out from the left side of the goal to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead with 38:35 to play.

Right off the kickoff the Blue Dragons attacked immediately,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2025-26/bios/puccinelli_isabela_fmo3">Isabela Puccinelli</a>&nbsp;quickly moved the ball up field and passed to Smith, who in turn found Tamaki down the right side. Tamaki scored the game-tying goal 13 seconds later to tie the game at 2-2.

The game, played in rainy conditions throughout the contest, turned into a defensive struggle from that point.

Blue Dragon freshman goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2025-26/bios/carvell_evie_w1nf">Evie Carvell</a>&nbsp;(8-2-4) had one save, while Barton keeper Leonie Kerle made seven saves.

Hutchinson outshot Barton 12-8, including 9-3 in shots on goal.

Tamaki's goal was her eighth of the season and Bacon scored her second goal of the season.

The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team started a season 7-0 for the fourth-consecutive season and took sole possession of first place in the Jayhawk Conference on a rainy Saturday night at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons also earned their third victory over an NJCAA Top-10 opponent this season, defeating No. 10 Coffeyville 31-0.

The Blue Dragons improved to 7-0 and 3-0 in the KJCCC. Coffeyville fell to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the league. Hutchinson will now travel to No. 13 Butler next Saturday in El Dorado.

Hutchinson has now won 11 consecutive games.

Hutchinson posted its second shutout of the season, holding Coffeyville 196 yards under its 355-yard season average. The Blue Dragons held the Red Ravens to 159 total yards (110 passing yards and 49 rushing yards). The Dragons racked up five quarterback sacks, 11 tackles for loss and had three takeaways. The Dragons also forced eight Coffeyville punts.

D.J. Jester had an interception, while&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/wilson_jason_jg3k">Jason Wilson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/moorer_kevin_g4lb">Kevin Moorer</a>&nbsp;had fumble recoveries. Wilson returned his fumble 15 yards for a Blue Dragon touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Dragons didn't score until its fourth possession of the game. They marched 60 yards in seven plays and scored the game's first point when Johnson completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Gouldsby, who made a one-armed grab in the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

The Dragons scored 17 second-quarter points in a 4-minute, 32-second span late in the second quarter.

Johnson ran for two TDs and threw for two more, including a 78-yard strike to Jayce Brown, who finished with four catches for 160 yards. Joe Jackson added 69 yards on the ground, helping the Wildcats (4-4, 3-2 Big 12) to run out the clock late.

“We dominated the football game from start to finish,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said, whose team has won three of its last four games after a difficult start, and seems to be hitting its stride at an important point in the season.

“Guys were coming out firing and ready to play,” Johnson said.

Meanwhile, the Jayhawks (4-4, 2-3) still have not beaten their rival since Nov. 1, 2008 — seven head coaches ago.

“I thought our guys had tremendous focus this week,” Klieman said. “They know all about the streak. They know all about everything. I know our guys could kind of feel — not necessarily disrespected, but (Kansas players saying), ‘This year, this is the year.' And it kind of (ticked) off some of the older Kansan kids.”

The No. 1 Blue Dragons (6-0, 2-0 KJCCC) will play host to the Coffeyville Red Ravens (6-2, 3-0 KJCCC) in a battle of the top two teams in the Jayhawk Conference standings at 7 p.m. Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Rob Dreher (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live only on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 6:30 p.m.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawks are set to host the Kansas State Wildcats for the 123rd rendition of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Saturday at the reimagined David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The longstanding in-state rivalry will kick off at 11 a.m., on TNT/truTV/HBO Max with JB Long, Mike Golic Jr., and Coy Wire on the call.

The Jayhawks enter the mid-season matchup coming off their second open week of the season. The Jayhawks sit at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play just past the midway point of the season. The Wildcats also enjoyed their second open date of the season last weekend and last played on Oct. 11, when they topped visiting TCU 41-28 in Manhattan.

Kansas enters the matchup having won three of their first four games this season at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, picking up wins over Fresno State, Wagner and West Virginia. The Jayhawks have been led by quarterback Jalon Daniels, who has 18 touchdown passes to just two interceptions through seven games this season. His 18 touchdown passes rank tied for sixth in the country and he's one of just three signal-callers in the country with 18 or more touchdowns and two or fewer interceptions.

The 18 touchdown passes from Daniels already match his career high, which was established in 2022. All total, he has completed 138-of-186 passes for 1,752 yards. 🏈 Jayhawks host Wildcats in Dillons Sunflower Showdown

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks wrapped up their regular season in impressive fashion Friday night at Gowans Stadium, defeating the Maize South Mavericks 47-28 to secure a home playoff game in next week’s Class 5A postseason.

With the win, Hutchinson (6-2) moved up to the No. 4 seed in the 5A West standings and will host Emporia (2-6), the 13 seed, next Friday night at Gowans Stadium.

The Salthawks wasted little time getting on the board as quarterback Robert Hunter connected with Jeramya Gaitho-Karanu on a 22-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter to make it 7-0. Hutchinson then took advantage of several Maize South turnovers in the second quarter, exploding for three touchdowns to take a commanding 27-0 halftime lead.

The highlight of the first half came early in the second quarter when Hunter broke free on a 91-yard touchdown run, electrifying the Gowans crowd. Gaitho-Karanu and Karmelo Green each added scores as Hutch dominated both sides of the ball.

The Salthawks’ defense joined in on the action in the third quarter when Kam Wilson intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Both teams traded touchdowns in the period, and Hutchinson carried a 40-14 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Maize South quarterback Reign Illian led a late charge, throwing two touchdown passes in the final minutes to trim the lead to 40-28. But Green’s 6-yard scoring run with 2:36 remaining sealed the win and locked down the crucial home playoff berth for Hutch.

Hunter finished the night with two touchdown passes and one rushing score, setting a new single-season school record with 15 touchdown passes. Lamar Govain caught his eighth touchdown of the year, helping Hutchinson rack up 462 yards on 59 offensive plays.

The victory also allowed Hutchinson to edge Hays in the point-differential tiebreaker, as four teams in the 5A West — Hutchinson, Hays, Andover, and Liberal — all finished 6-2. Great Bend earned the top seed at 8-0, followed by Salina Central (7-1) and Andover (6-2) is the 3 seed in the West. Basehor-Linwood locked up the top seed in the East with an undefeated season at 8-0. Defending Champ St. Thomas Aquinas os the to seed going 7-1. Aquinas will host KC Turner on Thursday, October 30th in Overland Park, Kansas.

The Salthawks are in the same bracket as Hays and Goddard Eisenhower, setting up the possibility of a rematch with Hays in the regional round if both advance.

Meanwhile, Maize South (3-5) heads to Goddard to take on the No. 7-seeded Lions in their playoff opener.

COLBY – The Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team accomplished a feat the program had not completed since 1987 – repeat as Region 6 Champions.

Led by three runners finishing in the individual Top 10, the No. 2-nationally ranked Blue Dragons edged Butler to win the 2025 Region 6 Division I Men's Championship on Friday at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby.

The Blue Dragons repeated as regional champions with a team score of 33 points. Butler was second with 39 points, followed by Colby with 85 and Garden City with 86.

The Blue Dragons also repeated as Jayhawk West champions with 23 team points. Colby was second with 63 and Garden City was third with 65 points.

Hutchinson head coach Jafet Molinares was named the 2025 Region 6 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/kogo_cornelius_a3hy">Cornelius Kogo</a>&nbsp;became the fourth Blue Dragon to win the Region 6 individual championship. He posted a winning time of 24:17.77. Kogo joins Andrew Kibet (2018), and Doug Proett (1987) and Bryan Lopez (1983) as Blue Dragon individual regional champions.

This was Kogo's second career race victory as a Blue Dragon.

Right behind Kogo was teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/kiprotich_titus_yvcm">Titus Kiprotich</a>&nbsp;who ran a time of 24:16.17. Kiprotich has finished in the Top 5 of every Blue Dragon race this season.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/mangelson_farrin_731i">Farrin Mangelson</a>&nbsp;had a big finish to place sixth in a time of 24:51.39. Through six kilometers, Mangelson was eighth at the time about 5 seconds behind a Butler runner, who was running sixth. Mangelson ran the final 2K of the race in 5:59, passing two runners, which was key in the team standings, to finish sixth. Mangelson placed fourth in the Jayhawk West race.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/ortega_esteban_lfb9">Esteban Ortega</a>&nbsp;placed 11th in the region and seventh in the conference with a time of 25:16.38. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/oses_esteban_x8g9">Esteban Oses</a>&nbsp;Campos was 13th and ninth in a time of 25:22.28. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/cheruiyot_dennis_bxx4">Dennis Cheruiyot</a>&nbsp;was 14th and 10th, respectively, with a time of 25:38.23. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/ryan_max_p5gh">Max Ryan</a>&nbsp;placed 66th and 46th, respectively with a time of 31:00.15.

The team regional championship was the ninth in Blue Dragon men's history. Hutchinson repeated as champions in 1986 and 1987. This was the team's fourth conference title in history.

Next up for the Blue Dragons will be the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championship on November 8 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

👟 No. 2 Dragon men repeat as Region VI champions

For the second time in four seasons, the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team has captured the Region 6 Cross Country team championship.

Led by freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2025-26/bios/roni_mildred_mud8">Mildred Rono</a>, the No. 11-ranked Blue Dragons edged Butler 48-56 to capture the program's third all-time championship on Friday at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby. Hutchinson also won regional team titles in 2001 and 2022.

Rono became the fourth Blue Dragon women's runner to capture a Region 6 individual championship, joining Faith Jepchirchir (2024), Louise Cocking (2021) and Ruth Limo (2001).

Rono was running in a tightly-knit lead pack of five runners through three kilometers. That pack included Blue Dragon freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2025-26/bios/frater_ashara_sw1a">Ashara Frater</a>. With two kilometers to go, Rono broke away from the pack and was never challenged again. Posting a time of 17:10.69, Rono won the race by 45.80 seconds over runner-up Elizabeth Hernandez of Butler.

Rono won the third race of her freshman season and posted the second-fastest Blue Dragon time in a Region 6 event.

Frater placed fourth in Region 6 and third in the Jayhawk West with a time of 18:09.22. That mark was the fifth fastest 5K time in Blue Dragon history and the fifth-fastest Region 6 time in team history.

Giving the Blue Dragons a huge boost was the return of freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2025-26/bios/lovett_mali_ugil">Mali Lovett</a>, who ran for the first time this season on Friday. Lovett ran a time of 18:52.71 to finish eighth in the region and seventh in the conference. Lovett's time was the 10th-fastest 5K time in team history and seventh-fastest Blue Dragon mark in Region 6 history.

Freshman Kimberlyn Lovell was 16th with a time of 20:02.32. She finished fourth in the Jayhawk West.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2025-26/bios/ramey_eva_d580">Eva Ramey</a>&nbsp;was 20th and 14th, respectively, in a time of 20:20.25.

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — The NBA's return to NBC with a doubleheader on Tuesday night averaged 5.61 million viewers, the most-watched October opening night in 15 years according to Nielsen Big Data + Panel measurements and digital data from Adobe Analytics.

It was also an 87% increase over the 3 million that watched on TNT Sports last year.

The first game between the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets averaged 5.85 million viewers on NBC and Peacock.

The audience for the Thunder's 125-124 double-overtime win peaked at 7.1 million for the second overtime period. It was the most-watched opening night game in the early window since 2010, when LeBron James made his debut for Miami. The Heat's game against Boston averaged 7.4 million on TNT.

The Rockets-Thunder game saw a 95% jump over last year's opener between the Celtics and New York Knicks.

The second game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers averaged 5.11 million, making it the most-viewed game in the late window and a 76% increase over the Lakers-Minnesota Timberwolves game last year.

The Warriors' 119-109 win over the Lakers started on Peacock before going to NBC during the second quarter after the first game was finished.

According to Nielsen, NBC won the night in prime time among adults ages 18-49 across all networks.

NBC will air games on Tuesday nights and then also on Sunday nights beginning in February as part of its 11-year rights deal. Tuesday was the network's first NBA game since the 2002 NBA Finals between the Nets and Lakers.

Under Rhoades, Hutchinson had 200 All-Conference selections including 62 first-team selections, 26 NJCAA All-America honorees, including 11 first-team All-Americans and the 2008 NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year. Rhoades had 239 student-athletes go to a four-year program and 16 student-athletes selected in the NFL Draft or signed as an undrafted free agent. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks return home tonight as they host Maize South tonight at Gowans Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Hutchinson (5-2) comes in off a hard fought win at Newton last week. Maize South (4-3) is coming off a loss to Derby. Both teams hope a win tonight will earn a home field game with the playoffs starting next Friday.

Fans can tune in starting at 6 p.m. with the Kansas Kickoff Show from Kpreps and KSHSAA Covered, followed at 6:30 p.m. by the Salthawk Pregame Show presented by Papa John’s Pizza.

The award-winning EAGLE Media sportscast crew will have the call, with Glen Grunwald on play-by-play, Dan “Coach Nac” Naccarato providing analysis, and Matt Peterson producing the video stream on the Hutch High Hudl channel beginning at 6:50 p.m
