WICHITA, Kan. — Q.J. Peterson scored all nine of the AfterShocks’ points during the Elam Ending, including the game-winning 3-pointer, to lift the Wichita State alumni team past the Enchantment 73-67 on Friday night at Koch Arena.
The victory in the decisive third game of the opening-round series advanced the defending champions to a matchup against Kansas alumni team JHX Hoops at 8 p.m. Monday in Wichita. The winner will earn a spot in The Basketball Tournament’s Final Four.
Peterson’s winning shot came after Marcus Keene missed a potential game-winning 3. The AfterShocks kept the rebound alive and found Peterson open on the wing.
Wichita State trailed by as many as 12 points after New Mexico’s alumni team made five of its first seven 3-pointers and built a 23-11 lead.
Keene helped erase the deficit by scoring 12 points in the third quarter. He scored 10 straight during one stretch, including a 3-pointer that tied the game and a jumper that gave the AfterShocks their first lead.
The AfterShocks led 64-62 when the target score was set at 72.
Peterson converted a three-point play and followed with a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 70-62. The Enchantment answered with five straight points before Peterson ended the game from beyond the arc.
New Mexico forced the decisive game with a 74-68 victory Thursday after Wichita State won the series opener.
The AfterShocks improved to 19-3 at Koch Arena since returning to TBT play under coach Zach Bush.
