Hutchinson Community College sophomore Adriana Delgado had another impressive week as No. 16 Hutchinson went 1-0-1 last week to remain unbeaten. For the week, Delgado scored three goals and is now tied for the national lead with 11. Her biggest goal of the season came in the 86th minute of a home battle with No. 9 Butler on Wednesday. Trailing 1-0, Delgado lofted a shot from 25 yards out the sneaked under the crossbar for a game-tying goal and a 2-2 tie with the Grizzlies. Delgado scored a pair of goals in the Blue Dragons 4-1 road victory over Coffeyville.

The Jets acquired the four-time MVP in a trade from Green Bay that sent fans' expectations sky-high. Now they face an unsettled season with backup Zach Wilson taking over.

Chiefs sign All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones to new 1-year deal to end his holdout

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs signed Chris Jones to a new one-year contract Monday, which should end the All-Pro defensive tackle's holdout. It also means he could be on the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. Jones was entering the final year of a four-year, $80 million deal. He gave up a $500,000 workout bonus, was fined $50,000 each day for missing mandatory minicamp and all of training camp, and forfeited nearly $1.1 million in his first game check for holding out through Week 1. It's unclear whether the provisions in his new deal will allow Jones to recoup the millions he already lost.

DraftKings apologizes for sports betting offer referencing 9/11 terror attacks

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Sports betting company DraftKings has apologized after using the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks to entice people to bet on baseball and football games. The Boston-based company offered users a 9/11-themed promotion titled "Never Forget." It required the Yankees, Mets and Jets to win their games Monday. That is the 22nd anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon and the downing of a passenger jet in a field in Pennsylvania. The tragedy killed nearly 3,000 people. An outcry on social media from people offended by the promotion followed. DraftKings later took it down and apologized.

Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. charged with assaulting girlfriend at Manhattan hotel

NEW YORK (AP) — Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with assault and strangulation after allegedly attacking his girlfriend at a New York City hotel. Porter, 23, is accused of hitting the woman several times and putting his hands around her neck. The woman, 26, was taken to a hospital with a cut to the right side of her face. Police said the incident happened around 6:45 a.m. at the Millennium Hilton near the United Nations in Manhattan. Porter remained in police custody as of Monday afternoon. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf. A message seeking comment was left for his agent.

Suspended Michigan State coach calls harassment allegations false and outside scope of Title IX

Suspended Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker says allegations of sexual harassment against him are completely false. He also says the intimate phone call he had with activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy was consensual and outside the scope of Title IX and school policy. Tucker responded to Tracy's allegations in an 885-word response a day after he was suspended by Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller. Tucker is in the third year of a $95 million, 10-year contract. If he is fired for cause, the school won't have to pay him what's remaining on his deal.

Juan Soto hits a 3-run homer in the ninth, and Padres rally to stun weary Dodgers 11-8

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Juan Soto hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the ninth inning, and the San Diego Padres rallied from an early five-run deficit for an 11-8 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manny Machado homered twice for the Padres, who beat their playoff-bound rivals for only the third time in 11 meetings this season. Mookie Betts hit another leadoff homer and added a three-run double in the third inning while burnishing his NL MVP credentials for the NL West-leading Dodgers, who have lost seven of 11. Max Muncy also hit his 35th homer, but Los Angeles' weary pitching staff squandered a 7-2 lead.

The answer, essentially, was "No." And, frankly, no one else should be shocked by it either. Connecticut's Alyssa Thomas has played her way into the conversation. She has recorded a league-record six triple-doubles in leading the Sun to the No. 3 seed. Thomas is the first player in league history to record at least 600 points, 400 rebounds and 300 assists in a single season.

UEFA hosts women soccer stars for expert advice. Then it thanks ousted Luis Rubiales for his service

NYON, Switzerland (AP) — European soccer body UEFA has hosted a storied group of women players and coaches for a conference to help shape a brighter future for their game. It was held one day after Spanish official Luis Rubiales resigned from his leadership jobs on Sunday including as a UEFA vice president. And when the event was over UEFA thanked the now-former vice president "for his many years of service." It was UEFA's first major public statement since Rubiales' conduct at the Women's World Cup final three weeks ago that is now under criminal investigation in Spain. Rubiales denies any wrongdoing.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that the team has agreed to a new one-year contract with defensive lineman Chris Jones.

"Chris is an elite player in this league, and over the last seven years, he's really developed into a leader on our team," General Manager Brett Veach said. "He's been instrumental to our success and Super Bowl championship runs and it was a priority for us to keep him in a Chiefs uniform. I'd like to thank Chris and his representation, Michael and Jason Katz, for their desire and patience to get this done. Through this process two things were obvious, Chris wanted to be a Chief, and the Katz brothers worked diligently on his behalf."

Jones (6-6, 310)&nbsp;has played in 107 games (86 starts) in seven NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. His career numbers include 243 tackles (168 solo), 65.0 sacks (-457 yards), 65 tackles for loss and 146 pressures. Jones has two interceptions, one returned for a TD, 33 passes defensed, 12 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He owns 2.0 career postseason sacks, both coming in last year's AFC Championship win over the Cincinnati Bengals.&nbsp;

Jones served as a team captain for the Chiefs during the 2022 postseason, including Super Bowl LVII. He was named last year's AFC Defensive Player of the Year by the 101 committee. The four-time Pro Bowler and four-time AP All-Pro was originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round (37th&nbsp;overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. A Houston, Mississippi, native, Jones played collegiately at Mississippi State.

Kansas will appear on ESPN for the third time under third-year head coach Lance Leipold and second time in the regular season. The Jayhawks faced Arkansas last season in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and hosted No. 3 Oklahoma on October 23, 2021 on ESPN.

Kansas is 2-0 on the year following a 34-23 victory over Illinois on September 8 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The Jayhawks return to action this Saturday, September 16, at Nevada, with kickoff set for 9:30 p.m. CT from Reno, Nevada. MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Nine home games at Bramlage Coliseum, including marquee matchups with 3-time NCAA champion Villanova in the Big 12/BIG EAST Battle and regional rival Nebraska, highlight the non-conference schedule for second-year head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang&nbsp;and his Kansas State men’s basketball program.

In addition to its nine home games, K-State will host in-state foe Wichita State in the Wildcat Classic at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on Thursday, Dec. 21.

As previously announced, K-State will open its 120th season of men’s basketball on Monday, Nov. 6 against USC at T-Mobile Arena in the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas. It will be just the 10th season opener away from home since 1970, including the first since 2002.

The home opener at Bramlage Coliseum will occur on Friday, Nov. 10, as the Wildcats play host to first-time opponent Bellarmine. The lone exhibition game will be played against Emporia State on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

In all, the Wildcats will play 18 home games in 2023-24, including a 9-game Big 12 schedule with visits from Baylor, BYU, UCF, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and West Virginia. Dates and times as well as the television schedule for those games will be released at a later date.

As previously announced, K-State will also play in the third annual Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship, which is set for Friday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 19 in Nassau, The Bahamas and includes a field of 2023 Final Four participant Miami, Georgia and Providence. Aside from the neutral site games with USC and the Baha Mar Hoops Championship, the Wildcats will play a true road game at LSU, which will be the first-ever visit to the Pete Maravich Center in Baton Rouge. It will be the first of a two-game series between the schools with the Tigers coming to Bramlage Coliseum in 2024-25.

The expanded Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship will run Tuesday-Saturday, March 12-16 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City and will coincide with the women’s championship, which runs Thursday-Tuesday, March 7-12, also at T-Mobile.

The game with the Trojans will mark the first time in more than 20 seasons that K-State will open the season away from home since a 73-64 loss to BYU at the Paradise Jam on Nov. 23, 2002, in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. K-State has made several visits to Las Vegas in recent years, including the 2006 Las Vegas Holiday Classic and the 2008 and 2017 Las Vegas Invitationals held at the Orleans Arena. This will be the school’s first game in T-Mobile Arena.

K-State is 4-1 all-time against USC, including an 80-67 win in the last meeting with the Trojans in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. This will be the second meeting in Las Vegas after a 68-55 win by the Wildcats at the 2006 Las Vegas Holiday Classic on Dec. 22, 2006.

Matchups with Villanova, Nebraska Highlight Home Schedule

The 9-game home schedule is highlighted by visits from 3-time NCAA champion Villanova as part of the fifth edition of the Big 12/BIG EAST Battle as well as former conference rival Nebraska.

It will be just the second meeting all-time meeting with Villanova and the first in more than 80 years since the BIG EAST Wildcats earned a 51-34 win on Dec. 27, 1940, in Philadelphia. The Cornhuskers, who have played games in Manhattan dating back to 1906, will make their first visit to Bramlage Coliseum since 2011.

The home schedule tips off with consecutive games with Bellarmine (Nov. 10) and South Dakota State (Nov. 13) before visits from Central Arkansas (Nov. 22), Oral Roberts (Nov. 28) and North Alabama (Dec. 2). It will be the first-ever meetings with Bellarmine and North Alabama.

The Wildcats will host Chicago State on Tuesday, Jan. 2 before opening Big 12 play on Saturday, Jan. 6.

K-State will participate in the third annual Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship, which is set for Friday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, The Bahamas. The team will be joined in the field by 2023 Final Four participant Miami, Georgia and Providence.

The Wildcats and Friars will tip off at 5 p.m., CT on Friday, Nov. 17, following a matchup between the Hurricanes and Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m., CT. The winners of the first-round games will play in the championship game at 1:30 p.m., CT on Sunday, Nov. 19, while the consolation game will tip at 11 a.m., CT.

All games of the tournament will air on CBS Sports Network.

In-state rivalry meet in Kansas City

K-State will return to Kansas City for the 12th Wildcat Classic game on Thursday, Dec. 21, at the T-Mobile Center by hosting in-state rival Wichita State. The Wildcats are 9-2 all-time in the game, posting a 71-56 victory over Nebraska on Dec. 17, 2022, in the first contest since 2019.

The game will be the second in a 3-game series between the rivals after the Wildcats earned their fourth straight win in the series with a 55-50 victory at home on Dec. 3, 2022. It will be the first meeting between the schools in a location other than Manhattan or Wichita.

Senior&nbsp;Nae’Qwan Tomlin, who declared for the NBA Draft before opting to return for his senior season, headlines six returners, including three starters, for K-State in 2023-24.

The 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward from Harlem, N.Y., was third in scoring (10.4 ppg.) and double-digit scoring games (21) behind All-Americans&nbsp;Markquis Nowell&nbsp;and&nbsp;Keyontae Johnson&nbsp;and second in rebounding (5.9 rpg.) to Johnson, while he led the way in blocks (1.0 bpg.) and dunks (43).

Tomlin will be joined by fellow regular starters – senior&nbsp;David N’Guessan&nbsp;and junior&nbsp;Cam Carter&nbsp;– along with sophomores&nbsp;Jerrell Colbert&nbsp;and&nbsp;Dorian Finister&nbsp;and redshirt freshman&nbsp;Taj Manning&nbsp;as returners.

Carter, along with Tomlin, was among four players to start all 36 games a year ago, as he ranked fourth on the team in 3-point field goals (35), assists (1.4 apg.) and steals (0.9 spg.) and fifth in scoring (6.5 ppg.), field goals made (86) and minutes (26.3 mpg.). N’Guessan started 11 of the first 12 games before an injury sidelined him for 6 games at the start of Big 12 play. He returned to play the last 16 games, including 7 starts, highlighted by an 11-point performance in the win over Michigan State. He led the team in field goal percentage (70.6) while averaging 6.4 points to go along with 3.5 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—&nbsp;Major League Baseball announced last week that&nbsp;Salvador Perez&nbsp;was named the Royals 2023 nominee for the&nbsp;Roberto Clemente&nbsp;Award presented by Capital One, baseball’s most prestigious individual honor for Major Leaguers. Perez will be recognized for his local nomination for the Roberto Clemente Award during pregame before the Royals host the Houston Astros on Friday, Sept. 15 at Kauffman Stadium.

“Everybody knows I love to play baseball, but I love to help people just as much,” Perez said. “This isn’t why any of us do it, but being connected with Roberto Clemente is humbling, and I hope that continuing to honor his legacy inspires others to help as well.”

The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

The annual program allows each MLB Club to nominate one player to be considered for the league-wide Award in tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character.

“Salvy became the fourth Captain in Royals history this year, and it wasn’t just for his talents and leadership in the clubhouse,” Royals Executive Vice President – General Manager&nbsp;J.J. Picollo&nbsp;said. “Our fans see the energy he brings to our club every night, and we are proud to celebrate all that he does off the field as well.”

Each year, Perez sponsors hundreds of kids in a baseball academy along with dozens of clinics in his home country of Venezuela. He has paid for reconstructive surgeries for children born with cleft lips, as well as provided thousands of toys for children’s hospitals, meals for families in need, and support for Venezuelan police officers and their families. He has personally coached in the&nbsp;Carlos Fortuna&nbsp;Organization, providing training and support to the families of boys from Latin America who are working to become professional baseball players.

Perez was a charter sponsor of the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy with a donation of $1 million, and has personally mentored and coached underserved youth in Kansas City. He has also partnered with Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer, among many other charitable efforts in and around his adopted hometown.

“Salvy is one of the most important athletes in the history of our city and franchise, and this award is a reminder that his influence goes far beyond the field,” Royals Chairman and CEO&nbsp;John Sherman&nbsp;said. “He has left an enormous positive impact in Venezuela, here in Kansas City, and so many other places through his endless energy and generosity.”

Friday, Sept. 15th marks the 22nd annual Roberto Clemente Day presented by Capital One, which was established by Major League Baseball to honor Clemente’s legacy as a humanitarian and to formally acknowledge Club nominees of the Roberto Clemente Award. As part of the league-wide celebration, the Roberto Clemente Day logo will appear on the bases and official dugout lineup cards and a customized tribute video to Roberto will be shown in all MLB ballparks on Roberto Clemente Day as well as on MLB Network, MLB.com, Club sites and MLB Social Media Platforms.

The league-wide winner of the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One will be honored at the 2023 World Series following selection by a blue-ribbon panel. 🏈 Week 3 Kpreps high school rankings

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The ballgame was a tight one. The teams were tied at a run apiece heading into the ninth inning and then the runs started coming in. A huge double from Jake Rucker drove in the tie-breaking run and the Wind Surge would hold off a Hooks rally. The Wind Surge defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks by the score of 3-2 and the series ends with four games going to the Hooks and two games to the Surge.

The first run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the third inning. The Hooks scored a run off a Will Wagner RBI double. Wagner got himself caught stealing for the second out of the inning, and Surge relief pitcher Isaac Mattson struck out Colin Barber for out number three. The Hooks were limited to just one run in the inning.

Wichita tied the game up a few innings later in the top of the sixth. Alerick Soularie swung at the first pitch he saw and hit a leadoff solo home run. The ball flew over the left field wall and tied the game up at a run apiece.

The Wind Surge threatened to take the lead in the top of the eighth but could not capitalize on the opportunity. Yoyner Fajardo hit a two-out triple to put himself in scoring position at third, but the next batter Tanner Schobel flied out to center field to end the inning.

Alex Isola reached first base in the top of the ninth off a walk. Ben Ross was brought in to pinch run for him and then Seth Gray hit a single on a fly ball to right field to advance Ross to third. Jake Rucker got his third hit of the ballgame for an RBI double on a line drive that bounced off the left field wall. Willie Joe Garry Jr. added another run when he brought Gray home on a fly ball that dropped in right field.

Corpus Christi scored a run in the bottom of the ninth and threatened with the tying run on third. Surge closing pitcher Miguel Rodriguez struck out the final batter and ended the rally.

Jaylen Nowlin made his seventh start of the season for the Wind Surge. He pitched two and a third innings where he gave up one run off two hits. He did not record a strike out and walked two batters. Miguel Rodriguez was credited with the win, and his record improved to (3-1).

The Corpus Christi Hooks starting pitcher Valente Bellozo pitched four innings where he gave up only one hit and no runs. He struck out two batters and walked none.

The Wichita Wind Surge improve to (34-29, 62-69) and the Corpus Christi Hooks fall to (33-30, 66-66).

NOTES: Yoyner Fajardo extended his reached base streak to 25 consecutive games. The streak is the longest of any Wind Surge player this season.

TORONTO (AP) — Kevin Kiermaier hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the seventh inning and the Toronto Blue Jays took advantage of three consecutive wild pitches by Cole Ragans to beat the Royals 5-2 on Sunday, completing a three-game sweep.

Toronto came in tied with Seattle in the wild card race, 1 1/2 games ahead of Texas. The Rangers begin a four-game series north of the border on Monday. The Blue Jays moved a game ahead of the Mariners in the wild card after Seattle lost at Tampa Bay.

Kiermaier broke a 2-2 tie with a home run off right-hander Taylor Clarke (2-5), his eighth. Santiago Espinal and Cavan Biggio made it 5-2 with RBI singles off Jackson Kowar in the eighth.

Blue Jays right-hander José Berríos (10-10) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings to snap a five-start winless streak.

Right-hander Yimi García got two outs in the eighth and left-hander Génesis Cabrera retired MJ Melendez to strand the tying run at third.

Jordan Romano wrapped it up for his 34th save in 37 chances as the Royals left the bases loaded.

The major league-worst Royals (44-100) lost their fourth straight, giving them 100 losses for the first time since 2019.

Ragans extended his scoreless innings streak to 26 with five shutout innings to begin the game, but his outing unraveled in the sixth.

The Blue Jays didn’t put a runner in scoring position until Ragans issued consecutive two-out walks to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Davis Schneider in the sixth.

Facing trouble for the first time, Ragans suddenly lost his control and his footing. He slipped and threw wildly to the backstop on his first pitch to Alejandro Kirk as both runners moved up.

Ragans waved off manager Matt Quatraro and the trainer, then threw another pitch to the backstop, allowing Guerrero to score. Ragans slipped again on his next pitch as Schneider raced home with the tying run.

Third base umpire and crew chief Jeff Nelson came to inspect the mound after the third wild throw. Ragans was replaced after walking Kirk with his next pitch. Clarke came on and retired Whit Merrifield to end the inning.

Ragans allowed two runs and one hit in 5 2/3 innings. He walked a career-high six and struck out six.

George Springer’s leadoff single in the third was the only hit off Ragans.

Kansas City scored twice off Berríos in the top of the sixth. Kyle Isbel led off with a triple and came home on Bobby Witt Jr.’s one-out double. Witt stole third and scored on Salvador Perez’s grounder.
