TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge defeated the Tulsa Drillers 6-3 on the road at ONEOK Field in the series opener of the Tulsa portion of the Propeller Series.&nbsp;Pierson Ohl&nbsp;struck out a career-high 10 Drillers in his sixth start of the season.

Tanner Schobel&nbsp;lined a double to left to bring in&nbsp;Emmanuel Rodriguez&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kala’i Rosario&nbsp;to give Wichita a 2-0 lead five batters into the ballgame in the top of the first. Despite giving up a single and double in the bottom half of the frame, Ohl struck out five consecutive batters across the first two innings.

Ben Ross&nbsp;pulled an RBI double to left in the top of the sixth to score&nbsp;Alerick Soularie. Ross later touched home plate in the frame alongside Rodriguez on a two-run double through the six hole by Rosario. Soularie singled in Schobel on a base knock to right an inning later for a 6-0 Wind Surge lead heading into the seventh inning stretch.

Tulsa scored all three of their runs consecutively across the seventh and eighth innings on a solo home run by Diego Cartaya, a passed ball, and a single by the aforementioned Cartaya.&nbsp;Miguel Rodriguez&nbsp;retired all four batters he faced after entering in relief in the home half of the eighth.

Ohl improved to an even 2-2 on the season with the win, striking out a career-high 10 batters opposite four hits and a walk over six strong innings. Rodriguez earned his second save to tie for the team lead in the category.

McIlroy's management team confirms the divorce filing and says he won't comment to make sure this time is respectful and amicable. The petition for divorce described the marriage as irretrievably broken and asked that a prenuptial agreement signed about a month before their 2017 wedding be enforced. The prenuptial agreement was sealed.

“They found a way to put some pressure on him late, he made a mistake, and the three-run homer was the big swing in the ballgame,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “But the stuff, the command, the competitiveness, it was pretty much what we've seen all year from Logan.”

Velázquez' homer was his first since April 4.

“He's a high percentage slider guy, so I went there with a plan that at-bat," Velázquez said. “Look for the slider and try to hit the ball to the middle. I stood on my plan and a good thing happened.”

Maikel Garcia added to Kansas City's lead with an RBI single off Mariners reliever Trent Thornton in the eighth.

Luke Raley gave the Mariners an early lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, one of just three hits for the Mariners against Wacha (3-4), who struck out seven.

“His stuff was good today,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “The slider was better and he's been working on that. His velo was up early, he got the ball up above the zone when he needed to, he got the ball down, and his changeup was good, like usual.”

Mitch Haniger hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off closer James McArthur, who struck out Dylan Moore and got Luis Urías to line out for his 10th save.

The Mariners struck out 11 times in the loss, which snapped a seven-game winning streak against the Royals.

“Especially early on, they were swinging aggressively and maybe didn't have time to get to the changeup," Wacha said. “But also, you know, trying to disguise it at times with other pitches as well. Whenever I did throw it, felt like it had good action. Some positive results today.”

Mariners: DH Mitch Garver (upper back spasms) was scratched from the starting lineup … 2B Jorge Polanco was out of the lineup after leaving in the sixth inning of Monday’s game because of a tight right hamstring. Manager Scott Servais said the injury was “nothing that serious.”

Royals: CF Kyle Isbel (stomach bug) was out of the starting lineup for the second straight game.

Seattle right-hander Bryan Woo (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second start of the season on Wednesday, while the Royals will start righty Alec Marsh (3-0, 2.53 ERA). Marsh will make his second start since being activated from the injured list on May 9 after taking a line drive off his right elbow in late April.

⚾ Royals rally past Mariners Tuesday

Eight days after earning their first regional championship in 37 years, the Hutchinson Community College softball team learned its seed and opening-round opponent on Tuesday afternoon.

The Region 6 champion Blue Dragons earned the No. 15 overall seed in the 20-team double-elimination tournament and will play No. 19 seed and Region 2 champion Connors State.

The opening-round game will be played on Field 4 at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 20 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. The Hutchinson/Connors State winner will play No. 2-seed Indian River State at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The loser will play at 3 p.m. on Tuesday against the McLennan/Lake Land-Iowa Western loser.

The Blue Dragons won the Region VI title on May 6 in Dodge City, defeating the reigning regional champion Butler Grizzlies twice in the championship game 12-3 and 16-4 to win the program’s second overall regional championship and first since 1987, the second year of the program.

Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year Dakota Lake ranks 12th in the NJCAA with 200 strikeouts and is sixth in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings at 11.32.

Offensively, sophomore Jaeleigh Darnell is eighth in the nation in batting average at .515. Freshman Bailey Backhaus is 19th at .496 and is second in the nation in total hits with 102.

Connors State is 39-12 and defeated Eastern Oklahoma State in the second Region 2 championship game 7-2 to earn a berth in the tournament. The Cowgirls knocked off Region 2 favorite Seminole State 4-3 in the semifinals.

Connors State has a team batting average of .337 with 357 runs scored this season. The Cowgirls have hit 49 home runs. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.02.

McLennan College is the No. 1 overall seed for this year’s tournament. Indian River State is No. 2, followed by Northwest Florida State, defending national champion Florida Southwestern State and Temple College.

The Blue Dragons have won 13 of their last 14 and 26 of their last 29 games played.

Hays scored one in the top of the sixth to tie the game.&nbsp; The Salthawks took advantage of two Indian errors in the sixth to plate the go-ahead and decisive run.&nbsp; Hutchinson will face either Maize South or Salina Central in the regional championship game around 6:30 p.m.&nbsp;

He has agreed to a plea deal on one count of bank fraud and one count of subscribing to a false tax return. But first he's likely to enter a not-guilty plea as a formality during his arraignment Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles. Authorities say there was no evidence that Ohtani was involved in or aware of Mizuhara’s gambling.

PARIS (AP) — Diego Maradona’s heirs want to stop the auction of a trophy he was awarded after the 1986 World Cup won by Argentina. It had been missing for decades and recently resurfaced. Their lawyer told The Associated Press he will launch an urgent request to have the Golden Ball withdrawn from the sale next month in Paris. He told the AP he will also request a judicial sequestration of the trophy and file a complaint for theft and concealed theft. Maradona died in 2020 at age 60. He captained Argentina in its 3-2 win over West Germany in the 1986 final in Mexico City. Maradona’s heirs say the trophy was stolen and claim the current owner cannot be entitled to sell it.

SEATTLE (AP) — George Kirby allowed three hits over seven shutout innings, Luke Raley hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Monday night.

A night that started with a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mariners-foul-ball-fan-1e26d7d28494e34a60fee728115f5462">lucky fan catching foul balls</a>&nbsp;on consecutive pitches ended with another dominant pitching performance that helped the Mariners improve to 19-11 over the past 30 games.

Kirby (4-3) had been bothered by a sore knee, but was terrific. He pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning after hitting a pair of batters. He gave up Bobby Witt Jr.’s first inning single, then didn’t allow another hit until Dairon Blanco reached on an infield single in the fifth.

Kirby struck out six, walked none. It was the third time this season he pitched at least six innings and didn’t allow a run.

Raley's second homer of the season traveled an estimated at 432 feet and came after Cal Raleigh doubled on the first pitch of the second inning from Kansas City starter Brady Singer. Raley also&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/lindseywasson/status/1790214531387641891">appeared to break</a>&nbsp;– or have come unscrewed — the celebratory trident used by the Mariners to celebrate home runs.

Raleigh and Raley added an RBI singles an inning later. Raleigh's was a 410-foot shot that tipped off Blanco’s glove as he jumped at the fence. Julio Rodríguez scored, but Jorge Polanco had to wait near first base and could only advance 90 feet, leaving Raleigh with possibly the longest single of his career.

Ty France added a two-run homer in the eighth inning, his third of the season.

Kansas City's Michael Massey had a two-out, two-run double in the eighth, but closer Andrés Muñoz recorded the final four outs for his sixth save.

Singer (3-2) gave up a season-high nine hits and allowed more than two earned runs for only the second time this season – both losses. Singer needed 108 pitches to get through five innings and struck out six.

Royals: RHP Carlos Hernandez (shoulder) pitched 1 1/3 innings on Sunday as part of his rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha, the first time he pitched more than one inning.

HUGOTON, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpup boys golf team claimed the class 4A regional at Forewinds Golf Course on Monday. 

The Bullpups edged out Andale by seven strokes, to claim the win with a total of 340 strokes. Buhler finished in seventh place with a score of 390.

McPherson junior Blaise Hoover was in first a majority of the day, but finished with a second place finish with a 7-over par 79 round. Freshman Hudson Krehbiel finished with a round of 82, good enough for fifth place.

Junior Drew DeMeyer was the top Buhler finisher, as he carded a 92, which earned him a trip to the state tournament and a 13th place finish.

The class 4A state tournament will take place Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21 at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson.

SYRACUSE, Kan. — The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic Celtics boys golf team claimed the class 2A regional championship in far southwest Kansas on Monday.

The Celtics shot a 344 team total, eight strokes better than the host Syracuse Bulldogs. Garden Plain came in third place and Inman in fourth in the team standings.

Trinity Catholic was led by junior Lincoln Barnes who fired a 6-over par, 78, the top spot on the individual leaderboard. He edged out Charlie Keller of Syracuse by one stroke. Senior Eric Armour wasn't too far behind with a fifth place finish, shooting an 85.&nbsp;

Inman was led by Creighton Friesen with a 43-over par round.

The class 2A state tournament will be played Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21 at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.

⛳ Trinity Catholic wins 2A regional in Syracuse

Hutchinson Community College Athletic Director Josh Gooch announced on Monday the hiring of Kyle Fisher to be the next head coach of the Blue Dragon men's basketball program, pending board approval.

Fisher will become the 16th head coach in the history of the NJCAA's all-time winningest men's basketball program. He will be officially introduced at a news conference at noon on Wednesday, May 22, in the Hutchinson's Sports Arena's Multi-Purpose Room.

"Myself, my wife and our girls are beyond excited about getting to take over such a prestigious program like Hutchinson," Fisher said. "I have always admired the program and I look forward to getting to work to keep the Blue Dragons at the top of the junior college world."

Fisher is a veteran of the Jayhawk Conference coaching wars, first as an assistant at Coffeyville Community College and the last five seasons as the head men's basketball coach at Butler Community College.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Kyle Fisher as the Blue Dragons' next head basketball coach," Gooch said. "Coach Fisher's success in the NJCAA and KJCCC as an assistant coach and then as a head coach make him a great fit to lead the Blue Dragons.

"I look forward to welcoming his wife, Kathryn, and daughters, Grace and Rose, to the Hutchinson community and Blue Dragon Nation."

Over his five seasons as head coach at Butler, Fisher's teams posted an impressive 113-42 overall record.

Fisher's 2022-23 team went 26-9 and finished fourth in the KJCCC, but had a late-season surge that carried the Grizzlies to a Region 6 Tournament title and all the way to the NJCAA National Tournament Quarterfinals. His first team in 2019-20 finished 25-8 with a second-place finish in the KJCCC and a Region 6 Tournament runner-up finish.

Except for the Covid-affected season in 2020-21, Fisher's teams never won less than 23 games at Butler.

"The hard-nosed mentality and the grit my players have shown will always be a staple of my program," Fisher said. "We are going to recruit really good players who are good people. They are going to play hard and play for each other."

Before accepting the head coaching position at Butler, Fisher worked under Hall of Fame coach Jay Herkelman at Coffeyville.

Over his seven seasons with the Red Ravens, Fisher's time in Coffeyville helped produce a record of 179-55 and four trips to the national tournament - including three-straight national tournament appearances, along with a national semifinal finish in the 2018-19 season. Fisher was promoted to associate head coach with the Red Ravens before the 2017-18 season.

"With the experience and the success I have had in this league, that will put us in a good position to compete at a high level," Fisher said. "The Jayhawk Conference is unlike any other league in the country. I look forward to the challenge of representing our program and the community the right way."

Prior to Coffeyville, Fisher served as the top assistant at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona, for two seasons. Before Eastern Arizona, Fisher served two seasons as the top assistant at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. Fisher's first coaching position was serving as a graduate assistant for his alma mater, Washburn University in Topeka.

Fisher was a four-year member of Washburn's basketball team where he played for Hall of Fame coach Bob Chipman.

Holthus, the Voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, is the longest tenured and most decorated play-by-play "Voice" in franchise history, on the call for Chiefs victories in Super Bowl LIV, Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII. 

Holthus is a member of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Kansas State University Athletics Hall of Fame, and is a five-time Emmy award winner. 

A native of Smith Center, Kansas, and graduate of Kansas State University, Holthus was selected by the Kansas Society of Washington, D.C. board for being an exemplary ambassador for the state. Holthus began his legendary broadcasting career calling games for the Pratt High (Kan.) Greenbacks, before serving as Kansas State's "Voice of the Wildcats" for 13 years and earning six-time Kansas Sportscaster of the Year honors. In 1994, Holthus made his debut in the Kansas City Chiefs broadcast booth where he has exemplified the spirit of Chiefs Kingdom ever since. 

Holthus and his wife Tami, who is originally from McPherson, Kansas, have a son and daughter and two granddaughters. 

"Mitch is a tremendous ambassador for Kansas and one of the best sports broadcasters the industry has ever seen," the Kansas Society board said. "Throughout his career, Mitch has embodied Kansas values and enriched each fanbase and community in which he has served. NEW YORK (AP) — The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will open the regular season at home against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 5 in a rematch of the AFC title game, the NFL announced Monday.

The NFL will release the entire 2024 season schedule on Wednesday night on the NFL Network.

The Chiefs-Ravens opener at Arrowhead Stadium will be a Thursday night game on NBC. The Chiefs are favored by three points, according to&nbsp;<a href="https://sports.ia.betmgm.com/en/sports/football-11/betting/usa-9/nfl-35">BetMGM Sportsbook.</a>

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be going for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl title and fourth in six years this season. Mahomes is 4-1 in his career against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.

Kansas City will begin the season at home for the second straight year and is 9-2 in openers under Andy Reid. The Chiefs lost 21-20 to Detroit in their 2023 opener.

In addition to Mahomes, the Chiefs bring back star tight end Travis Kelce, who agreed to a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-travis-kelce-f0c1da59a7963dfda1b786fbb26081ee">$34.5 million, two-year contract extension</a>&nbsp;last month, and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones, who signed a five-year, $158.75 million deal in March.

Led by Jackson, the two-time MVP, Baltimore had the best record in the NFL last season and was the top seed for the AFC playoffs. The Ravens beat the Houston Texans 34-10 in the divisional round before undisciplined play and a couple interceptions by Jackson doomed them against the Chiefs.

The Ravens will have a different look when the teams meet in the opener. Derrick Henry, the second-leading rusher in the league for Tennessee last season, signed with the Ravens in March and gives the team a pounding running back to complement the elusive Jackson. Ravens running backs had just six carries in the AFC title game.

The Ravens have won seven of their last eight Week 1 games.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Atlanta Hawks won the NBA draft lottery, landing the No. 1 pick and a potential cornerstone player in a year where there’s no clear-cut choice. The Hawks hit the jackpot despite just 3% odds after finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference at 36-46. They dropped their final six regular-season games and lost to the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the play-in tournament. The Hawks haven’t won a postseason series since a surprising run to the Eastern Conference finals in 2021. They got knocked out in the first round in 2022 and 2023. BOSTON (AP) — Aleksander Barkov slipped through three Bruins defenders to score the go-ahead goal and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 16 shots to give the Florida Panthers a 3-2 victory over Boston and a 3-1 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series. One year after Florida knocked out the record-setting Bruins in the first round on its way to the Stanley Cup Final, the Panthers won their third straight to send Boston to the brink of elimination. Sam Bennett and Anton Lundell also scored for the Panthers. Florida scored three times in a row to rally from a two-goal deficit. The Panthers can advance to the Eastern Conference finals with a victory in Game 5 at home on Tuesday night.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Brock Boeser had two goals and an assist, Elias Lindholm also scored twice, and the Vancouver Canucks held on to beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference playoff series. CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) — Rose Zhang won the Cognizant Founders Cup on Sunday to end Nelly Korda’s record-tying LPGA Tour winning streak, rallying to beat Madelene Sagstrom by two strokes. Zhang birdied four of the final five holes to overcome a three-shot deficit in a thrilling final-round duel with Sagstrom after the two broke away from the field Saturday. DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Brad Keselowski moved to the front when Chris Buescher and Tyler Reddick hit each other with nine laps left and held on to win the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday. It was Keselowski's first victory since 2021 and his first triumph since rejoining magnate Jack Roush as a co-owner at Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing. It was Keselowski's 36th career win and his second at Darlington. He snapped a 110-race winless drought since taking the checkered flag at Talladega in April 2021. ⚾️ Wichita Wind Surge sweeps series with Travelers

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Seth Lugo racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts and allowed one run over eight strong innings, and Hunter Renfroe had a two-run single against his former team in the Kansas City Royals' 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

Freddie Fermin and Michael Massey also had RBIs during the Royals' four-run fourth inning, and Lugo (6-1) made it stand up as Kansas City took three of four from the Angels.

Lugo allowed five hits while continuing his outstanding start to his first season with the Royals, winning for the AL-best sixth time in eight starts and lowering his ERA to an AL-best 1.66.

“To strike out 12 and only throw 112 pitches, that’s really remarkable,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “Just the confidence that you have when he’s out there. He just comes out and it feels like he’s in total control all the time.”

Lugo overcame slight early control issues, retired 11 straight at one point, and didn't walk a batter for the first time all season. The longtime Mets right-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his nine starts for Kansas City.

“We were counting on him to be one of the top couple of starters we had,” Quatraro said. “What he’s done so far, I don’t think anybody can bank on that run of starts, but the way he’s done it is really impressive, and he hasn’t wavered. ... I can’t even fathom having nine pitches to choose from, (and) the fact he uses them and they all do something and he can locate all of them.”

Willie Calhoun had an RBI double in the sixth and a solo homer in the ninth for the Halos, who have lost 17 of 23 with a major league-worst 14 players on the injured list.

Los Angeles has lost all six of its series at the Big A this season, failing to win consecutive home games at any point.

Patrick Sandoval (2-6) allowed 11 hits for Los Angeles, but pitched into the seventh inning and only allowed runs during the Royals' fourth-inning rally. Sandoval has lost five of his last seven starts.

“The takeaway from his start is he should be pleased,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. “One inning (was bad), and sometimes that happens to you. Sometimes you can recover, and sometimes not. You’ve got to give their pitching staff credit.”

The Royals got five consecutive hits to open the fourth inning. Renfroe, who batted .242 with 19 homers in 126 games for the Angels last season, drove in Nelson Velasquez and Fermin with his bases-loaded single before Massey drove in Dairon Blanco with a sacrifice bunt.

The Angels couldn't get to Lugo until Mickey Moniak singled in the sixth and Calhoun drove him home.

Calhoun capped his three-hit game with his first homer for the Angels, a solo shot off James McArthur in the ninth. McArthur got two more outs to complete his ninth save.
