The Shockers end the 2024 season with a record of 32-29, the most wins for the program since the 2018 club went 35-21-1.

Wichita State trailed, led, trailed again, and battled back to tie before Linn's blast ended the game with two outs in the ninth. A pair of solo home runs in the first and second innings gave Tulane an early 2-0 lead, but Wichita State took advantage of an error by Green Wave shortstop Marcus Cline to put two runs on the board in the third.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/lane-haworth/7609">Lane Haworth</a>&nbsp;plated the first run with an RBI single and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/dayvin-johnson/7596">Dayvin Johnson</a>&nbsp;tied the game with a double play grounder.

After a Brady Marget RBI ground out in the bottom of the third put Tulane back in front 3-2, the Shockers put five runs on the board in the top of the fifth. Haworth yanked a double into the right field corner to tie the game, followed by another double from Johnson that plated two and gave Wichita State their first lead at 5-3. After a bunt singlIe from&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jordan-rogers/7538">Jordan Rogers</a>&nbsp;put runners at the corners,&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/josh-livingston/7602">Josh Livingston</a>&nbsp;blooped an RBI single into shallow left to extend the lead to 6-3.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/mauricio-millan/7532">Mauricio Millan</a>&nbsp;bounced into another double play with the bases loaded to score Rogers for the final run of the inning and a 7-3 advantage.

Tulane (35-24) nearly got it all back in the home half of the inning, scoring three runs on a pair of RBI singles and a Michael Lombardi sacrifice fly that trimmed the WSU lead to 7-6.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jack-mount/7599">Jack Mount</a>&nbsp;was able to preserve the lead with a strike out and a ground out that left the bases loaded.

The Green Wave launched a pair of homers in the sixth to retake the advantage. Linn led off the inning with a game-tying solo blast and later in the inning Gavin Schulz hooked a two-run shot to left as Tulane claimed a 10-7 lead.

Wichita State responded with two home runs of their own in the seventh to bring the game back to square one. After Rogers led off the inning with a double,&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/josh-livingston/7602">Josh Livingston</a>&nbsp;yanked a towering two-run homer to right field that sliced the Tulane lead down to one, 10-9. After a pair of outs,&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/seth-stroh/7543">Seth Stroh</a>&nbsp;cranked a long solo shot of his own that tied the score at 10-10, where it would stay until the ninth thanks to scoreless relief from&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jeremiah-arnett/7612">Jeremiah Arnett</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/hunter-holmes/8976">Hunter Holmes</a>. Holmes (1-4) ultimately took the loss, retiring the first six hitters he faced before Linn's walk-off homer.

Luc Fladda (4-3) earned the win for Tulane, logging 1.2 scoreless innings out of the Green Wave bullpen.The tournament's accolades are listed below.

⚾ Tulane walks off Shockers in AAC championship

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Brandon Lowe drove in three runs with a pinch-hit triple during Tampa Bay's four-run seventh inning, and the Rays stopped Kansas City's eight-game win streak with a 4-1 victory over the Royals on Sunday.

The Rays had lost a season-high six straight.

“To get a win that way, to show up in those high stress situations, it feels good and I feel like it really ignites everybody around it," Lowe said.

Kansas City's Michael Wacha (4-5) lost his perfect-game bid in the sixth, and was pulled after Harold Ramírez singled and Isaac Paredes had a double to start the seventh. John Schreiber then hit Randy Arozarena and permitted a fielder’s choice grounder before Lowe delivered on the first pitch he saw.

It was Lowe's second hit in 17 at-bats since returning from a strained right oblique.

Garrett Cleavinger (4-0) got three outs for the win, and Pete Fairbanks handled the ninth for his fifth save in six chances.

Batting with the bases loaded, Bobby Witt Jr. bounced to second for the final out of the game.

“It was a good ballgame," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “Really well pitched game. They came up with a big hit when they needed it, and we fought back and just came up a little bit short.”

Wacha retired his first 15 batters on 54 pitches before José Caballero grounded a leadoff double down the third base line in the sixth. After a strikeout and grounder, Yandy Díaz drew a 10-pitch walk before Wacha struck out Jonny DeLuca to complete a 33-pitch inning.

“Those are always tough decisions," Quatraro said about sending Wacha back out for the seventh. "Some of them work. Some of them don’t. That one stings because it didn’t.”

Witt extended his hitting streak to nine games and put the Royals up 1-0 on a sixth-inning homer off Rays reliever Shawn Armstrong. He has homered four times in his last five games.

Witt was thrown out by Arozarena when he tried to score from second in the eighth on Salvador Perez’s one-out single to left.

“Look, we don’t get an out right there that rally just keeps going,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said.

Tampa Bay’s Taj Bradley allowed Adam Frazier’s opposite-field flare single to left in the second and walked three over five innings. After a pair of two-out walks in the fifth, the right-hander fanned Maikel Garcia for his sixth strikeout on his season-high 95th pitch.

Royals: OF Kyle Isbel has a small nose fracture to go with facial lacerations after fouling a ball off his face Saturday, but he avoided going on the 10-day injured list. “He’s very fortunate because the ball grazed the bat, grazed the helmet and (then) hit him,” Quatraro said. “But nothing that needs any time other than just the swelling to go down and get him back out there.” ... INF Michael Massey (lower back sprain) went on the 10-day IL.

Rays: Opening-day starter Zach Eflin (lower back inflammation) has resumed playing catch.

Royals: RHP Alec Marsh (4-1, 2.72 ERA) and Minnesota RHP Joe Ryan (3-3, 3.15 ERA) are Monday’s starters.

Grayson Murray dies at age 30 a day after withdrawing from Colonial, PGA Tour says

Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray has died at the age of 30. The PGA Tour and his management company GSE Worldwide confirmed the death Saturday. There were no immediate details how Murray died. He opened with a 68 at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. The next day he was 5 over for his round when he withdrew with two holes to play. Murray won the Sony Open this year with a 40-foot birdie putt in a playoff. He also won the Barbasol Championship in 2017. Murray made his Masters debut in April.

The question was raised with the Dodgers skipper after Ohtani appeared not to be at full speed in legging out a sixth-inning triple. Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has no regrets about expressing his beliefs in a recent commencement speech and he said he has received support as well as "a shocking level of hate" from others. WICHITA, Kan.—The Wichita Wind Surge lost 4-2 to the San Antonio Missions in a rain-delayed contest at Riverfront Stadium. The loss gives San Antonio the 2024 season series advantage over Wichita.

Kala’i Rosario&nbsp;led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run that landed in the Wind Surge bullpen in left-center. The round-tripper was Rosario’s third of the season, all coming at Riverfront Stadium.

Robbie Tenerowicz found the Wichita bullpen on a two-run shot off Wind Surge starter&nbsp;Aaron Rozek&nbsp;in the top of the fourth inning. The Missions would add additional runs on a Brandon Valenzuela RBI single to left and a Ray-Patrick Didder double to center in the back-to-back opening halves of the sixth and seventh frames.

After the top of the seventh, Riverfront Stadium would enter a 1 hour and 58-minute rain delay before&nbsp;Ben Ross&nbsp;would step up to the plate opposite Jason Blanchard. The delay became the longest such in Riverfront Stadium history.

Kyler Fedko&nbsp;flew a sacrifice fly to center in the last of the eighth to bring home&nbsp;Jake Rucker. Despite Wichita putting the tying run to the plate when they were down to their final outs in the ninth, Rucker would be the last man to cross home plate for either side in the ballgame.

⚾ Wind Surge lose San Antonio series after rain delay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Nelson Velázquez homered and had an RBI double in a three-run 11th inning as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-4 on Saturday for their eighth straight victory.

After both teams scored once in the 10th, Velázquez opened the 11th with his hit and scored on Adam Frazier's run-scoring single off Richard Lovelady (0-3). Maikel Garcia also drove in a run with a hit.

“That’s what good teams do, play hard and pick each other up,” Frazier said. “That’s a recipe for success.”

James McArthur (2-2) allowed one run in two innings, and Nick Anderson worked a scoreless 11th to get his first save.

“That was a battle,” Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said. “It took a lot of guts from both sides to stay in a really competitive game.”

Kansas City has scored seven or more runs in a team-record six consecutive games.

“Very frustrating,” Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said. “Would rather be talking about wins but right now they're tough to come by.”

Kansas City's Kyle Isbel left in the seventh after a pitch by reliever Garrett Cleavinger hit him in the face while swinging. Isabel remained on his feet and walked off with a trainer holding a towel on his face. The team announced that Isbel has facial lacerations and will undergo additional tests.

“I think we’re extremely lucky,” Quatraro said. “Got him on the bridge of the nose.”

Royals starter Brady Singer talked with Isbel in the clubhouse.

“He's in really good spirits,” Singer said. “He's as tough as a bull. so I expect him to be back quick.”

Dairon Blanco pinch-hit for Isbel and put the Royals ahead 3-2 on a sacrifice fly.

Velázquez had a second-inning homer and Bobby Witt Jr. extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games with an RBI single off Aaron Civale in the third.

Kansas City reliever Chris Stratton got the first out in the seventh with a nifty reach behind-the-back grab on Amed Rosario's comeback. The right-hander then hit a batter and issued a walk, and was replaced by Angel Zerpa, who allowed pinch-hitter Harold Ramírez's game-tying RBI single.

Kansas City’s Hunter Renfroe hit a towering fly with a runner on second and two outs in the ninth that Ramírez lost sight of in left field, but center fielder Jose Siri was backing up the play and made the catch.

NEW YORK (AP) — That's three Giant comebacks in a row — all on the road. Matt Chapman, Patrick Bailey and their San Francisco teammates have put together a remarkable run of resiliency this week. Bailey hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning, Chapman saved the game with a sparkling defensive play at third base and the Giants rallied from another big deficit to beat the New York Mets 8-7. After clawing out of a 6-2 hole in the eighth, the Giants joined the 1932 St. Louis Cardinals as the only major league clubs since 1900 to win three consecutive road games in which they trailed by at least four runs. Elliott blasts NASCAR for fining Stenhouse $75,000 for All-Star Race fight it used in a promotion

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Chase Elliott is criticizing NASCAR for fining driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. $75,000 for punching Kyle Busch following Sunday night's All-Star Race after it had used video of the fight on social media. It was the largest fine ever handed out for fighting in NASCAR history. Elliott seemed stunned when told how much Stenhouse was fined and said that it seems strange that NASCAR would hand down a fine for something they promoted on their social media platform right after the race. Elliott said, "It's like, 'it's not OK, but we are going to blast it all over everything to get more clicks.'"

Miller Stock feature winner at Fairgrounds Friday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Seth Lugo became the American League's first eight-game winner, Michael Massey and Bobby Witt Jr, homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1 on Friday night for their seventh consecutive victory.

Lugo (8-1) allowed one run and four hits, lowering his AL-best ERA from 1.79 to to 1.74. Only Philadelphia's Ranger Suárez has more victories in the majors with nine.

“He’s been amazing,” Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said.

Lugo struck out three and walked two, and became the first Royals starter to win each of his first five road starts to open the season.

“I felt like I had to battle tonight,” Lugo said. “Didn’t feel like I had my best stuff, but stayed in the zone and got some contact.”

The Royals are a season-best 14-game over .500 at 33-19. Kansas City was 15-37 after 52 games last season and did not get to 33 wins until Aug. 1.

“The confidence we have is great,” Witt said. “We’re just putting together some great, great team things. It’s a lot of fun.”

Massey put Kansas City ahead 5-1 in the fifth with a three-run homer off Tyler Alexander (2-3). Massey, who has 21 RBI in his last 21 games, left in the sixth due to lower back tightness.

“I've had experience with it,” Massey said. “Got out of there early, got treatment done, and we'll see.”

Witt extended his hitting streak to seven games with a solo homer against Alexander in a two-run seventh that made it 8-1. Both dugouts were warned by the umpires after Alexander hit the next batter after Witt, Vinnie Pasquantino, with a 90.3 mph fastball.

Kansas City tied a franchise record set by the 1978 team of scoring eight or more runs in five straight games,

“I think the word that comes to mind they've just been relentless,” Quatraro said.

Tampa Bay has lost a season-high five in a row to fall to 25-27.

The Rays loaded the bases with one out in the first against Lugo, but scored just once on Jonathan Aranda’s fielder’s choice grounder.

Tampa Bay finished with four hits and is hitting .237 as a team.

“I'm concerned,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “But I've been concerned for quite sometime. We're not getting it done.”

After opener Shawn Armstrong went two perfect innings. Alexander gave up eight runs and 11 hits in five innings. Alexander took a perfect game into the eighth in his previous outing, a start May 17 at Toronto.

Royals: Reliever Carlos Hernández (right shoulder impingement) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and pitched the ninth. The righty had been out since opening day. To clear a roster spot, RHP Tyler Duffey was designated for assignment.

Rays: OF Josh Lowe (right side strain) received a cortisone shot in an attempt to avoid going on the injured list. … RHP Shane Baz (Tommy John surgery) was optioned to Triple-A Durham after making four minor league rehab starts.

Royals RHP Brady Singer (4-2, 2.70 ERA) and Rays RHP Aaron Civale (2-4, 5.92 ERA) are set to start Saturday.

WICHITA, Kan.—The Wichita Wind Surge completed their first shutout of the season in an 8-0 victory over the San Antonio Missions. The triumph ends a five-game losing streak for the Wind Surge.

Emmanuel Rodriguez&nbsp;drilled a two-run home run to left-center in the bottom of the first inning for his team-leading seventh of the season.&nbsp;Carson McCusker&nbsp;followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score&nbsp;Kala’i Rosariobefore the end of the frame.

Ben Ross&nbsp;floated another two-run dinger to the left field berm in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-0 Wind Surge after two. A sixth run came home on an infield error an inning later for Wichita with the bases loaded.

The Wind Surge would tally two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, which began on back-to-back triples by Ross and&nbsp;Tanner Schobel. The latter from the leadoff hitter Schobel allowed Ross to breeze across home plate. Rodriguez scorched a single up the middle in the next at-bat to improve Wichita’s advantage to an 8-0 score that they would hold the rest of the night.

Jaylen Nowlin&nbsp;improved to 3-2 after throwing his first quality start of 2024 with six innings of three-hit baseball with seven strikeouts against two walks.&nbsp;Austin Brice&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jarret Whorff&nbsp;continued the silence of the San Antonio bats over the final three innings.

⚾ Wind Surge twirl first shutout of the season

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jaxon Willits hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning, Scott Mudler went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and No. 1 seed Oklahoma survived its seven errors to beat Kansas 7-5 to advance to the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Oklahoma (36-18) plays against the winner between the seventh-seeded Jayhawks and No. 9 seed TCU earlier in the day. Kendall Pettis doubled down the line in left to lead off the bottom of the fourth and then scored on a single by Mudler to cut Oklahoma’s deficit to a run. After back-to-back strikeouts, Willits hit a deep shot to right field that made it 5-4 and the Sooners led the rest of the way. Lenny Ashby went 2 for 3 with two doubles for Kansas (30-22).

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Sam Myers went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Kurtis Byrne also had three of TCU’s 14 hits and the ninth-seeded Horned Frogs beat No. 6 seed Kansas State 9-4 in the Big 12 Tournament. TCU continues in the consolation bracket with a game on Friday. Kansas State has been eliminated from the tournament. Myers led off the game with a double and scored on Logan Maxwell’s sacrifice fly following a 12-pitch at-bat. TCU added an RBI single on three straight at-bats in the second, capped by Myers’ hit for a 4-0 lead. The Horned Frogs loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth to force Kansas State to go to the bullpen. Myers capitalized with a shot up the middle to score two for a 6-0 lead.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA and five major college sports conferences have agreed to settle antitrust allegations for nearly $2.8 billion over the next 10 years. The deal also calls for a groundbreaking revenue-sharing model that could start steering millions of dollars directly to college athletes as soon as fall 2025. If approved by a judge, the payouts will go to thousands of former and current college athletes who were not allowed to earn money from endorsement and sponsorship deals dating to 2016. The Big Ten, Big 12, Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference and Pac-12 were the defendants along with the NCAA.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say the Kentucky police officer who arrested top-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler outside the PGA Championship is receiving “corrective action” for not having his body-worn camera activated when he approached the golfer’s vehicle and was allegedly dragged to the ground. Louisville police said Thursday that they don't have footage of the initial interaction Friday between Scheffler and Louisville Detective Bryan Gillis outside Valhalla Golf Club. The golfer was arrested on charges that he injured Gillis and disobeyed commands, but Scheffler has called the incident a misunderstanding. Officials didn't elaborate on what “corrective action” has been taken against Gillis for not having his bodycam turned on.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders are rewarding star pass rusher Maxx Crosby with a $6 million raise this season and another $1.2 million next year. The person with knowledge of the deal spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the contract details have not been announced. Three years remain on Crosby’s contract. He signed a four-year extension in March 2022 worth about $95 million. He was scheduled to approximately $19.38 million this year and $21.92 in 2025, according to Spotrac.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Long after Scott McLaughlin won the pole for the Indianapolis 500, he went into the grandstands to collect his thoughts. McLaughlin sat alone in the darkened Indianapolis Motor Speedway, listening to Post Malone and scrolling through his phone to answer all the well wishes he’d received for what he considers the biggest accomplishment of his career. McLaughlin led the first Team Penske lockout of the front row of Indianapolis 500 qualifying since 1988 when he won the pole for Sunday’s race. Kansas scored a run in the ninth and had the tying run on base but was unable to even up the game. The Jayhawks could not capitalize on opportunities as Oklahoma committed seven errors and Kansas left 13 runners on base.
Kansas starter Reese Dutton threw 5.1 innings and allowed five runs, four of which were earned, while walking one and striking out six. Ethan Lanthier and Cooper Moore came out of the bullpen for the Jayhawks. Moore threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED &bull; Oklahoma (36-18) took the lead in the first inning after scoring an unearned run on a sacrifice fly by Easton Carmichael to go up 1-0. &bull; Kansas responded in the top of the second by scoring three runs on three errors in the inning. A dropped fly ball and two misplayed ground balls allowed Lenny Ashby, Ty Wisdom and Mike Koszewski to score and give Kansas a 3-1 lead. &bull; The Sooners got one of those runs back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Scott Mulder. That made it a 3-2 game. &bull; The Jayhawks added that run back to their lead in the third inning on a two-out RBI single from Mike Koszewski to give Kansas a 4-2 lead. &bull; In the bottom of the fourth, Oklahoma took the lead by scoring three runs. Mulder hit another RBI single and Jaxon Willits hit a two-run homer to put Oklahoma ahead 5-4. &bull; OU extended its lead with two runs in the seventh on a Michael Snyder RBI single and a Jackson Nicklaus RBI triple. That pushed it to a 7-4 lead. &bull; Kansas had one last opportunity in the ninth inning. After a throwing error and a double by Ashby to start the inning, the Jayhawks had runners on second and third with no outs. Collier Cranford hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-5 game. The Jayhawks had the tying run on base and go-ahead run at the plate with two outs but could not score.
