GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Hailey Jackson scored a career-high 32 points and Hutchinson Community College got back on the winning track with a 66-53 win over Garden City on Thursday night at Conestoga Arena.

The Blue Dragons are now 22-2 overall, 16-2 in Jayhawk Conference play. Hutch moves back into a tie for first place with Dodge City with six games remaining.

Hutchinson led 17-10 after the first quarter, 27-23 at halftime and 48-33 after three quarters.

Jackson also brought down a team-high eight rebounds in the win. She was the only Blue Dragon to score in double figures. Madi Denison scored five points, while bringing down a team-high eight boards and dishing off two assists.

The Blue Dragons knocked down 57% of their shots, going 23 of 40. The two areas where Hutch struggled the most were from behind the arc (3 of 10) and at the foul line (17 of 32).&nbsp;

Garden City (11-13, 8-11) had three starters score in double figures, led by Ana Ramos Pieres with 15 points and nine rebounds. The Broncbusters shot 38% from the floor.

HutchCC will host Cloud County on Saturday afternoon inside the Sports Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff. Garden City is off for its final bye of the season on Saturday.

CLEARWATER, Fla. &ndash;&nbsp;A cold day at the plate doomed Wichita State as they fell to No. 23/24 Kentucky, 2-0, and No. 5/5 Texas A&amp;M, 9-1, at Eddie C. Coming off its most impressive victory of the season on Monday night, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team is back on the road Thursday evening.
The Blue Dragons (15-8, 11-6 KJCCC) travel to play the Garden City Broncbusters (13-11, 8-10 KJCCC) at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

After an unexpected nine days off, the Blue Dragons came out strong on Monday at No. 14 Coffeyville. Shooting just shy of 50 percent and holding Coffeyville 14 points under its scoring average, the Blue Dragons earned a 76-66 victory over the Red Ravens. D.J. Dudley had 26 points and Bo Aldridge had 22 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Defensively, the Blue Dragons held the Red Ravens to 38.7 percent overall shooting and to just 2 of 17 shooting from 3-point range.
Garden City comes off an equally impressive victory at Coffeyville on Saturday, winning 93-79. The Broncbusters hit 14 of 29 3-point field goals. Antonio Choi and Emmanuel Manyuon each 22 points each with Choi hitting four treys. Jace Steinmetz was 5 of 7 from distance and finished with 17 points.
Hutchinson and Garden City are part of a six conference team battle for the final Region 6 Tournament first-round bye. With seven games to play, the Blue Dragons are in fifth place in the Jayhawk Conference, just 0.5 games behind fourth-place Butler. Colby is sixth with a 9-10 record after a Tuesday win over Butler. Garden City has climbed back into contention for that final first-round bye spot with an 8-11 record.
The Blue Dragons and Broncbusters play for the 197th time in a series that began in 1929. Hutchinson has dominated the series, owning a 145-51 all-time series lead.
The Dragons have won four straight games in the series after an 83-78 Dragon win on Dec. 11 at the Sports Arena. Trailing by two points with 13:21 remaining in the second half, the Blue Dragons got a combined 45 points from Dudley, Aldridge,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/thornton_jaquez_fh4s">Jaquez Thornton</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_isaiah_jg1r">Isaiah Jackson</a>&nbsp;in the final 20 minutes to lift Hutchinson.</div>

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team looks to rebound from its second loss of the season six days ago, hitting the road once again on Thursday.
The No. 8-ranked Blue Dragons (21-2, 15-2) travel to play the Garden City Broncbusters (11-12, 8-10) in the teams' second meeting of the season at 4:00 p.m. at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

After having their second league bye week of the season on Saturday, the Blue Dragons have had seven days off since a 64-55 loss at then-No. 22 Coffeyville last Thursday in Coffeyville. The Blue Dragons trailed by as many as 20 points before getting as close as five with 2 1/2 minutes to play.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/forbes_landon_o30r">Landon Forbes</a>&nbsp;had 14 points, while&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/norris_kahlen_2uos">Kahlen Norris</a>&nbsp;had 13 points each.
The loss dropped the Blue Dragons into sole possession of second place in the KJCCC, a full game behind Dodge City with seven games to play. But the No. 6 Conquistadors were upset on Saturday 55-52 at Seward County and the Dragons now trail Dodge City by 0.5 games. Dodge City is off on Wednesday.
Garden City had a rough Saturday, falling 70-32 at Coffeyville. The Broncbusters trailed 24-8 after one quarter and never recovered. Jolie Mantz had 11 points to lead Garden City.
The first meeting on December 11 was a defensive battle between Hutchinson and Garden City. The Blue Dragons won 45-44 when Jackson hit three free throws with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. Those free throws capped off a 25-point effort by Jackson to lead the Blue Dragons. Sierra Driessen had 21 points to lead Garden City.
Wednesday's game will be the 101st all-time matchup between the Blue Dragons and Broncbusters. The Dragons lead the overall series 81-19 and have won 14 consecutive games in the series.</div>

🏀 No. 8 HutchCC travels to Garden City 

The Buffalo Bills have hired Chris Tabor as its next special teams coordinator, per sources.

Tabor was the running backs coach at HutchCC during the 1994 season for head coach Andy Hill.

Tabor most recently served as the interim head coach of the Carolina Panthers during the 2023 season, after the team had fired Frank Reich.

The 1994 Blue Dragons went 8-4 and finished second in the Jayhawk Conference. The Blue Dragons advanced to the KJCCC Playoff championship game for the first time.&nbsp;The season culminated with a 41-37 loss to Mesa Community College in the Valley of the Sun Bowl in Mesa, Arizona.

🏈 Former Blue Dragon assistant named Bills special teams coordinator

Additionally,&nbsp;Drew Liddle, who has spent seven years on the K-State staff over two different stints, has been named the assistant offensive line coach after serving as an offensive analyst in 2024.

&ldquo;Not only is Brian one of the top young coaches in our conference, but his background and experience with the offensive line made him the logical choice for this role,&rdquo; Klieman said. &ldquo;It was also important to have two coaches work in the trenches with our guys, and elevating Drew to assist Brian provides us stability and allows for a smooth transition.&rdquo;

Lepak&rsquo;s move to offensive line is part of K-State&rsquo;s new-look offensive staff as&nbsp;Matt Wells&nbsp;was elevated to offensive coordinator earlier this week following the departure of offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Conor Riley last week.
&nbsp;
&ldquo;I am grateful that Coach Klieman and Coach Wells have the faith in me to take this next step in my career,&rdquo; Lepak said. &ldquo;I am excited to get back to coaching the offensive line and building on the many things I learned from Coach Riley. Whomever becomes the new tight ends coach will be getting a group that is extremely coachable and gave Kansas State their very best the last three seasons. I cannot thank those guys enough for all they have done for me.&rdquo;

Lepak (pronounced luh-PACK) found quick success during his first three years as a full-time coach for the Wildcats, tutoring Ben Sinnott to All-Big 12 First Team accolades in both 2022 and 2023, while the Wildcats had two tight ends pick up All-Big 12 honors in 2024 in&nbsp;Garrett Oakley&nbsp;(second team) and&nbsp;Will Swanson&nbsp;(honorable mention). It was the first time since 1997 that the Wildcats had a pair of All-Big 12 tight ends in the same season, while Oakley&rsquo;s second-team designation marked the first time in the Big 12 era that K-State had a first- or second-team all-conference tight end in three straight seasons.
&nbsp;
Under Lepak&rsquo;s guidance, the K-State tight end unit combined for a nation-leading 13 touchdown receptions in 2024. Five of those came from Oakley, which tied for the second most in school history by a tight end and third by any sophomore. Oakley enters his junior campaign of 2025 with seven career receiving touchdowns to rank third in school history among tight ends.

Over his first two seasons tutoring the K-State tight ends, Lepak coached Sinnott to top-10 rankings nationally among the position group in receiving yards (third), receptions (fourth) and receiving touchdowns (tied for eighth).
&nbsp;
Under Lepak&rsquo;s leadership, Sinnott earned 2023 Honorable Mention All-America honors from Phil Steele and was a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award, the first player in school history to be named a semifinalist for the award that is presented annually to the nation&rsquo;s top tight end. Sinnott was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft &ndash; No. 53 overall &ndash; by the Washington Commanders, the highest-drafted tight end in school history.
&nbsp;
The 2025 season won&rsquo;t be the first time Lepak has coached an offensive line as he guided that position at Southern while also holding the title of run game coordinator. During his lone season in Baton Rouge, Lepak helped the Jaguars earn a top-20 final ranking during the 2021 spring season as all five Southern offensive linemen earned All-SWAC honors, including three first-team performers. Southern finished the COVID-shortened spring season with a 5-1 record.

Lepak spent the previous three seasons as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma, assisting with an offensive line that helped pave the way for multiple national award winners &ndash; including two Heisman trophy winners &ndash; and helped lead the team to three consecutive Big 12 Championships and College Football Playoff appearances. In 2018, the offensive line was honored by winning the Joe Moore Award for the nation&rsquo;s most outstanding offensive line unit. He went to Oklahoma after spending the 2014 through 2016 seasons as a graduate assistant at Indiana.

A native of Claremore, Oklahoma, Lepak was an offensive lineman for two seasons at Colorado State before transferring to Oklahoma where he spent three years, including the 2010 Big 12 Championship season, while he was an Academic All-American that year.
&nbsp;
After completing his playing career, Lepak was awarded the Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholar Award and attended law school at the University of Oklahoma College of Law where he was a member of the Oklahoma Law Review. He graduated in 2014 and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association the same year. In addition to his law degree, he has dual degrees in Accounting and Finance from the OU Price College of Business where he was the Outstanding Senior in Accounting.

Lepak and his wife, Colleen, have three children, Thomas, Penelope and Luke.

Liddle, a former K-State football player and staff member, returned to Manhattan for his second coaching tenure prior to the 2024 season as he served as an offensive analyst.

Liddle worked the previous two seasons as the tight ends/fullbacks coach at UTEP, while he was the
offensive line coach at Abilene Christian during the 2021 season. While at ACU, Liddle served on the same staff as K-State&rsquo;s current Director of Roster Management&nbsp;Clint Brown&nbsp;and Director of Scouting&nbsp;Dimitri Donald. Under Liddle&rsquo;s guidance, the ACU offensive line ranked No. 19 nationally in fewest sacks allowed (1.27 per game) in addition to a No. 35 national ranking in rushing offense (164.2 yards per game).

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Athletics generates more than $486 million in annual economic activity for the Manhattan community and the state of Kansas according to a thorough economic impact study performed by nationally-renowned Tripp Umbach and the athletics department.

Tripp Umbach, who also recently performed a similar study with the university, utilized data from 2022-23 to conduct the study, which also revealed that more than 3,850 jobs resulted from the department's impact. From a tax perspective, K-State Athletics generated $26.2 million in direct and indirect/induced tax payments for state and local governments in Kansas, with $21.0 million amount specifically benefiting Manhattan.

"The experience surrounding game days in Manhattan is an amazing site to see – from Aggieville, restaurants, hotels and of course our purple-filled stadiums," Athletics Director Gene Taylor said. "On the heels of the most recent University-wide study, we wanted to exhaustively study ourselves on various fronts, and this summary from Tripp Umbach paints a solid picture of the overall value and impact K-State Athletics has on the local economy."

Visitors from outside of the community have a tremendous impact as more than $161 million in expenditures were accounted for in Manhattan and $201 million for the state. In addition, the 450 Wildcat student-athletes who live in the community accounted for $9.1 million of that spending.

A significant portion of K-State Athletics' economic impact is driven by visitor and fan spending before, during, and after sporting events. As a member of the Big 12 Conference, K-State attracts fans from across the country. Visitors from inside and outside Kansas flock to Manhattan to attend football, basketball, and other games. In FY23 alone, K-State Athletics welcomed 527,280 patrons to ticketed events, with many more attending non-ticketed games and matches.

WICHITA, Kan.  – Despite 20 turnovers Wichita State was able to make enough plays down the stretch to record its third straight victory in a 69-64 battle with UTSA Wednesday night in Charles Koch Arena.

Wichita State (14-10, 4-7) has now won back-to-back games against conference opponents that they had previously lost to earlier this season. Its also the first three-game conference winning streak since March of 2021.

Corey Washington registered his sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Harlond Beverly did a little bit of everything, finishing with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Xavier Bell added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists on an off shooting night.

Quincy Ballard, on a minutes restriction after battling the flu the last few days, made a couple huge plays down the stretch, including a block and a key free throw. In limited minutes he added five points, six boards and two blocks.

AJ McGinnis knocked down three big three-pointers in 20 minutes off the bench.

For the second straight game Wichita State dominated the glass. The Shockers were +20 on the boards at South Florida and were +21 tonight vs. UTSA. Wichita State's 50 total rebounds were a season high.

Wichita State was efficient beyond the arc (7-for-15) and got to the free throw line 23 times, making 16. UTSA made 15 three-pointers in the first meeting in San Antonio, but finished just 6-of-24. At the line, they finished just 4-of-8.

The first half wasn't exactly easy on the eyes when it came to offense. Both teams shot below the 40 percent mark and combined for 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Wichita State fell in an early hole, trailing by seven, but a 10-0 run capped by a Harlond Beverly steal and slam gave the Shockers a 19-15 lead with 5:05 left in the half.

Just as soon as Wichita State had seized momentum, UTSA immediately responded with a 7-0 run to retake a 22-19 lead.

After the lead traded hands twice more in the final minute, AJ McGinnis sent the Shockers into the locker room with a 28-27 lead on a banked in three-pointer.

Washington's 11 first half points led all scorers.

The start of the second half followed the final minutes of the first half. Wichita State scored the first nine points of the half to take its largest lead, 36-27, behind a Washington layup, Bijan Cortes three-pointer and four points from Quincy Ballard.

In the span of 2:21, UTSA had already erased that nine-point deficit behind an 11-0 run of its own to jump back in front, 38-37. That run would balloon to a 20-2 run, snapped only briefly by a Cortes layup.

Trailing 47-39, Wichita State came right back with a 7-0 response to make it a one-point game again.

A minute later the game was tied at 50, but over the final 8:02, Wichita State would not trail again. The game continued to stay within a five-point margin until a Bell three-pointer put the Shockers up 64-57 with 3:22 to go.

UTSA made another push to cut the lead to two with 1:59 remaining, but they would not score again. Wichita State held the Roadrunners scoreless over the final 1:59 and got key free throws from Ballard and Bell to pull out the win.

&nbsp; CHARLOTTE, N.C. –&nbsp;Charlotte held off the Shockers' strong fourth quarter effort in a 73-59 win Wednesday evening in Halton Arena.

The 49ers (8-15, 3-9 AAC) led for 38 minutes of the game to claim their third conference win as the Shockers drop to 8-18, 2-11 AAC.

Charlotte's Alexis Andrews led all scoring with 27 points, hitting six threes and shooting 9-for-15 from the field. Keanna Rembert and Hayleigh Breland also finished in double figures with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

Wichita State scored the first basket of the game, but Charlotte went on a 17-2 run in the first quarter to take a 13-point lead, holding the Shockers scoreless for over four minutes, but eight points from Anderson, including back-to-back threes helped cut the spread to eight going into halftime.

A back-and-forth third quarter saw Wichita State come within six, but Andrews hit a three in the final seconds of the quarter to push it back to nine.

The Shockers scored their second-most points in a fourth quarter this season with 24, courtesy of 11 points from Anderson as she tried to spark some momentum late, but they couldn't stop Andrews and the 49ers down the stretch as Charlotte closed out a complete game.

🏀 Shocker women fall at Charlotte

CINCINNATI (AP) — Serena Sundell scored 21 points and dished 10 assists, Taryn Sides also had a double-double and No. 14 Kansas State rolled to a 90-53 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday night.

Sides had 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (23-3, 11-2 Big 12 Conference) for her first double-double. Temira Poindexter added 18 points. K-State was coming off a 30-point loss at No. 25 Oklahoma State.

Jillian Hayes had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Bearcats (14-9, 6-7). Chloe Mann and Reagan Jackson both added 10 points.

Sundell had 11 points in the first quarter when the Wildcats took a 22-16 lead and they broke the game open in the second quarter by making four 3-pointers and outscoring the Bearcats, who were 4 of 15 from the field, 20-9. Kansas State took a 42-25 lead at halftime.

Poindexter had back-to-back 3-pointers to put Kansas State on top 30-19, Sides scored the next Wildcat basket for a 33-21 lead and the lead stayed in double figures the rest of the way.

Kansas State went 10 of 16 in the third quarter when Cincinnati was 3 of 19 and the lead was 66-38.

The Wildcats shot 59% in the second half and 51% for the game while Cincinnati shot 39% for the game. K-State had 28 assists on 33 baskets, 10 of them 3-pointers.

UCF is at Kansas State on Saturday when the Bearcats go to No. 18 West Virginia.

The latest snowstorm to hit Kansas on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning has caused the postponement of the Blue Dragon women's and men's basketball games on Wednesday.

The games will be made up on Thursday (February 13) with different start times. The women's game is now at 4 p.m. and the men's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

VALLEY CENTER, Kan. - Both Salthawk basketball teams had to overcome adversity and rally back in the Nest versus Valley Center on Tuesday, but both teams came out with hard fought wins. Hutch High Girls overcame 24 turnovers to pull away in the second half 41-30. The Salthawk boys took over in the second half to get the win 60-47.

Tenley Keeton scored all of her points in the first half but it was enough to lead the Salthawks in scoring in a game that saw a 10 point lead at half-time evaporate quickly when the Hornets starting dropping 3 point baskets in the third period. Hutch led 22-12 at half to see that lead go away quickly to let Valley Center take the lead 23-22 before Clara Ontjes hit a corner trey and Lynnea Alverez knocked down two long range bombs to allow the Salthawks to gain control of the tempo and get the win. Alverez and Kaia Smith both added 8 points each in the win.

Hutchinson is now 9-5 on the season and travel to Derby on Friday night while the Hornets are 8-6 and match up with Maize.

Lamar Govain was fantastic in the third quarter to lead the Salthawks with 20 points scored while Senior guard Terrell King sliced and diced the Hornet defense fo 19 points. Danny Boone came off the bench to ad 9 as the Salthawks pulled away in the second half after trailing by two at the half 26-24.

The Salthawks put up 21 points in the third quarter that saw Hutch overcome a nine point deficit to at one time lead by as may as 17 points in the second half. At one time, Hutch owned a 15 to 0 run to take control of the game.

Hutchinson now plays 4 of their 6 remaining regular season games on the road by traveling to Derby to take on the Panthers on Friday night. Derby is currently ranked #1 in class 6A and is a hard team to beat on their home floor.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson scored 19 points to help No. 17 Kansas beat Colorado 71-59 on Tuesday night, handing the Buffaloes their 13th straight loss.

Besides Dickinson, Kansas (16-7, 7-5 Big 12) had three other players in double figures. Zeke Mayo added 13 points and Dajuan Harris and KJ Adams each had 10 each.

Kansas has alternated between wins and losses in the last seven games. Despite the double-digit margin, this victory was anything but easy.

Colorado (9-14, 0-12) used an early second-half run to trim a 14-point halftime deficit to just 6. Kansas didn’t lead by more than 11 points until Adams hit a short jumper just before the shot clock expired to make it 69-56 with 1:31 left.

Sebastian Rancik led Colorado with a season-high 19 points. Bangot Dak added 11 points for the Buffaloes, and Elijah Malone had 10.

Colorado: Even after Kansas pulled away late in the first half to take a 40-26 lead into the break, the Buffaloes opened the second half with a 10-2 run to trim the deficit to six points.

Kansas: The Jayhawks needed a big game from Dickinson and they got it. With backup center Flory Bidunga scoring just fuur points, Dickinson’s 19 points were critical.

Kansas held Colorado without a field goal for almost seven minutes in the first half to help the Jayhawks open their largest lead of the game. The Buffaloes missed 10 straight shots during the stretch.

Colorado shot just 17.4% (4-of-23) from 3-point range. The Buffaloes were 1-of-11 in the first half.

Colorado returns home to face UCF on Saturday, while Kansas travels to Salt Lake City to face Utah.

SURPRISE, Ariz.—The Kansas City Royals announced today that&nbsp;Ned Yost&nbsp;is returning to the organization as the Senior Advisor to the General Manager. Yost, the winningest Manager in franchise history, was inducted as the 27th member of the Royals Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony on Sept. 2, 2023.

“My deep love for the Royals, for Kansas City, and for the people there never left,” Yost said. “So I just want to help, because I know I can help. I know what it takes to build a world championship club, and I think we’re getting close. I think we’re getting really close.”

“Our fans remember Ned’s leadership helping produce some of the best moments in Royals history,” said&nbsp;J.J. Picollo, Royals Executive Vice President and General Manager. “He knows what winning a World Series here takes because he’s helped make it happen, and his experience both as a leader and with young players will help us make better decisions and keep pushing toward another championship.”

Yost is the Royals all-time leader in managerial wins (746) and led the franchise to back-to-back World Series appearances from 2014-15, including the second World Series title in Royals history in 2015. He led the Royals to a 22-9 postseason record for a .710 win pct., setting a Major League record (min. 20 games).

His 2014 club was the first in Major League history to begin the postseason with 8 consecutive victories, winning the Wild Card Game at home over Oakland, followed by sweeps of the Los Angeles Angels (3-0) in the Division Series and the Baltimore Orioles (4-0) in the Championship Series.

The following season, he managed the Royals to their second World Series title, defeating Houston in the Division Series (3-2) and Toronto (4-2) in the Championship Series, followed by a 4-1 series win over the New York Mets to bring Kansas City its first World Series Championship since 1985.

SURPRISE, Ariz.—The Kansas City Royals today announced their radio and television broadcast schedules for the 2025 Spring Training season.

Kansas City’s flagship radio station will broadcast 16 Spring Training games, including 11 on 96.5 The Fan and 5 games on its sister station The Bet 1660.

Of Kansas City’s 33 exhibition games, 30 of them will be available for audio streaming on royals.com, including the games on 96.5 The Fan and The Bet 1660. Fourteen games will air via webcast exclusively on royals.com.

Spring Training action will be called on radio by&nbsp;Ryan Lefebvre,&nbsp;Steve Stewart&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jake Eisenberg.

FanDuel Sports Network will televise 5 games this spring, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 27, when the Royals visit the Milwaukee Brewers at 2:10 p.m. CT. The game will be produced by FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin.

Coverage continues on Sunday, March 9 at 3:05 p.m. CT, when the Royals host the Milwaukee Brewers at Surprise Stadium, Friday, March 14 at the Los Angeles Angels (3:05 p.m. CT), Saturday, March 15 in a split-squad game vs. the Cleveland Guardians (3:05 p.m. CT) and on Wednesday, March 19 vs. the San Francisco Giants (8:05 p.m. CT).
