Ila Marie (Proffitt) Linder, 86, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away February 17, 2024, in Lyons, Kansas.

A proud product of the prairie, Ila Marie Proffitt was born on August 20, 1937 in Sterling, Kansas. The only daughter of J.M. &amp; Lutie (Towse) Proffitt, Ila joined big brothers Wayne and Billy. Eventually baby brother, Gary, joined the scene. Endless memories were soon made by the Proffitt four, first, out in the sandhills by Alden, then south of Sterling in pastures near the Arkansas River. Ila was proud to be the daughter and sister of farmers and she herself was active in 4H and completing before and after school farm chores. Ila graduated form Sterling High School in 1955, where she participated in band, FHA, 4H &amp; Y-Teens. After high school, Ila attended Grace School of Nursing in Hutchinson, Kansas and graduated as a proud Registered Nurse. It was her nursing school classmate, Irene, who would introduce her to a young Army man, Rex Linder. Rex and Ila were married at Sterling United Methodist Church on September 29, 1958. The army would take Rex &amp; Ila and their four children, Cathy, Roger, Mike, and Nancy to Kansas, Germany, Georgia and Washington, moving a total of 19 times. With four kids in tow, there was no doubt where Ila would go during Rex’s two tours in Vietnam: home to Sterling. After Rex’s retirement from the U.S. Army, the family settled in Clay Center, Kansas.

After the kids were done with high school, Ila began working at the Clay County Health Department until she retired as the Director In 1997. With the retirement chapter ahead of them, Ila and Rex knew where they should go: home to Sterling. Rex and Ila quickly settled in just south of town and enjoyed time gardening, spoiling their grandchildren, and spending time in their community. Never one to be fully still, Ila spent hours with her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and of course- her brothers. Additionally, she worked a few hours a week at the Rice County Health Department in Lyons. After Rex’s passing in 2012, Ila moved into town and enjoyed traveling, lunching with friends, but most importantly, her family. She was proud to have raised a respiratory therapist, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, a pharmacist, and a teacher. She was incredibly proud of their grandchildren and their accomplishments in their personal and professional lives. She was especially keen on the addition of Megs, Hanna, Jaime, Eric, and Olivia. But, in all honesty, no one else could compare with Arya, Ryker, &amp; Tommy- the great grands. Ila Proffitt Linder was meticulous. She was marvelous. She was our matriarch. She will always be missed.

Ila was proceeded in death by her husband Rex, her brothers- Wayne (Ruth), Billy (Joann), and Gary (Joanna) Proffitt, her parents, J.M. &amp; Lutie Proffitt, and her Linder brothers and sisters-in -law.

She is survived by her four children, Cathy Lutz, Roger (Connie) Linder, Mike, and Nancy (Tom) Rundel, Her ten grandchildren, Maj. Jerad (Jaime) Linder, Dustin (Maeghan) Linder, Case Rundel, Emily Lutz, Will Lutz (Olivia Marks), Colton (Hanna) Rundel, Sam Linder, Elly Lutz (Eric Gordon), John Linder and Morgan Blackim. And three great grandchildren, Arya and Ryker Linder and Tommy Rundel. Other surviving family include brother-in-law, Gene Stout, sisters-in-law Donna and Paula Proffitt, and a host of Proffitt and Linder nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Sterling, with Pastor Amy Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 23, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or Sterling Main Street in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

Joan Elaine Wegele, 77, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 5:25 am, Sunday, February 18, 2024 at McPherson Health And Rehab, McPherson, KS.

Joan was born in Logan, Iowa on August 21, 1946, a daughter of Achsa (Dishon) and Kenneth Chichester, of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Joan attended the Logan and Missouri Valley, Iowa grade schools and graduated from Council Bluffs High School, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1964.

She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church.

Through the years Joan worked as a waitress for The Plaza, Sirloin Stockade, Red Coach, McPherson, Kansas. She then worked as a delivery person for McPherson Sentinel until she retired.She was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Gently Aged Ladies Quilting in McPherson, Kansas.

Joan enjoyed quilting, exercising and spending time with her friends and family.

Joan E. Chichester was united in marriage to Clarence L. Wegele on April 8, 1968 at McPherson, Kansas.

She is survived by her children, Christina Koch, Newton, KS. and David Wegele(Kim), of Windom, Kansas; her sisters, Jean Squier and Shirley McNeley, of Missouri Valley, IA.. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Francis, George, Virginia, Marilyn, Norma, Lois and Carolyn.

Martha Mae Penner, 91, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Moundridge Manor. She was born on August 30, 1932 in Hillsboro, Kansas, the daughter of David H. and Anna (Hoeppner) Dyck.

She attended Ebenfeld School at Hillsboro and later Winton, California schools.

Martha was a member of the Gospel Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Moundridge.

She was united in marriage to Richard L. Penner on October 26, 1952 in Winton, California.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Penner of Moundridge; daughters, Mary Lou (Loren) Unruh of Charlo, MT, Jeanette (Arlin) Unruh of Hesston, and Kristine (James) Koehn of Galva; sons, Galen (Cindy) Penner of Halstead, and Laurence (Berniece) Penner of Elmhurst, NY; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Diane C. Penner; five sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Gospel Mennonite Church, Moundridge. Rosemary L. Yates, 76, passed away February 14, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born June 14, 1947, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Richard and Roberta Stout Drake, Sr. She married Larry Yates on April 3, 1966, in Alden, KS. She worked side by side with him, farming, and ranching at their farm in Reno County, doing the bookkeeping and driving the cattle. She was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, had been a 4H Leader, judged and showed horses and was a master gardener.

Survivors include her husband Larry, of the home in Sterling; siblings, Radonna (Rick Figger) Drake, Phoenix, AZ, Richelle (Robert) Miller, Philadelphia, Robin (Tyler) McVay, Sterling, KS, Richard (Kathleen Schroeder) Drake, Jr., Canton, KS, Rodney Drake, Springfield, MO, Ramona Drake, Enid, OK, and Robert Michael Drake, Phoenix, AZ; 2 sister in laws, Glenna Taylor, Great Bend, KS and Pattie (Gerald) Belden, Buhler, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry M. Tredway, 84, of Galva, KS, passed away on February 15, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. Larry is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Berenice (Johnson). &nbsp;Larry is also survived by two sons Brent (Jena) of Houston TX and Burton (Jane) of Wichita KS, as well as a sister Donna Ruth Graham of Mesa, AZ. &nbsp;Larry was also “Papa” to 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Haley, Lindsey, Lilly, Layla, and Jonathon, Jena and Jaden. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents George and Beulah Tredway of Burden, KS.

Larry was an avid K-State Fan. He and Bernie held season football tickets and attended a countless number of games over the years. Everyone was always welcome at the Tredway’s tailgate, and nobody ever left hungry or thirsty.&nbsp;

Larry was very civic and community minded as he called Galva home for over 50 years. &nbsp;He served numerous terms on the Canton-Galva School Board as well as on the Galva City Council. &nbsp;He was the first to volunteer when his sons were active in school and was always proud to help sponsor any local events and activities that promoted the local community. Larry never missed his sons’ games and could be seen attending Canton-Galva sporting events long after his two sons graduated. He was also very passionate about his grandchildren and attended their sporting events whenever he could.

For nearly 50 years, Larry wholeheartedly served many clients as an Insurance Agent. &nbsp;He considered many of his clients close personal friends. The personalized service he provided was second to none. These clients knew that with one phone call, Larry would be out the door to visit them to meet all their needs.

Larry M. Tredway |1939-2024|

LaVerne Wesley Trindal, 75, died February 14, 2024, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born October 4, 1948, in Concordia, to Wesley LaVerne and Donna Irene (Cyr) Trindal.

LaVerne graduated from McPherson High School. He became a bus driver for Trinity Jr./ Sr. High School. &nbsp;

LaVerne enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved decorating for the holidays, animals and spending time his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

On February 20, 1981, he married Karen Elaine Showalter, in Miami, OK. They shared over 42 years of marriage.

LaVerne is survived by: his wife, Karen Trindal of Hutchinson, KS; children, Hal (Beth) Trindal of Girard, KS, Heather Susan (Levi) Hastings of Pittsburg, KS, Clifford Trindal of Hutchinson, KS, Megan (Casey) Word of Westminster, CO; sister, Dena Rhea; brothers-in-law, Craig Hull of Arlington, KS, Doyle Showalter of Hitchcock, TX, sister-in-law, Beth Hull; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by: parents; brother-in-law, Curtis Rhea; brother, Jay Myers; and nephew, Tim Rhea.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Elliott Chapel, with Reverend Mik King officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6- 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.

Gary Wayne Gill, 59, of Newton, Kansas passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024. 

He was born in Concordia, Kansas to Dean Gill and Colleen (Alquist) Gill. He was raised in Salina, Kansas where he attended schools and was a graduate of Salina South High School. His working career was in carpentry and construction. He served in the U.S. Army Air National Guard where he received his honorable discharge.&nbsp; Gary loved the outdoors enjoying camping, fishing and hunting. Jackie Ray Houseberg 70, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. in Wichita Kansas.&nbsp; He was born in Wichita Kansas to Maxine (Gordon) Houseberg and Jack M Houseberg. His parents both preceded him in death.&nbsp; He attended North High School in Wichita.&nbsp; His career as a cement finisher was with the USD 259 School District where he retired from.

He was a lifelong Oklahoma Football Sooner fan. &nbsp;Game days were big. &nbsp;Jack's family and friends would have a great time, which were filled with a lot of fun. This sometimes conflicted with his attendance to the Winfield Bluegrass Festival with Banned Camp every year in September. Somehow he always managed to at least watch the football games on television or attend the game.

Jackie is survived by his wife, Karen (TenBarge) Houseberg and his children Jessica (Houseberg) Jones and her husband Heath of Rose Hill, KS and Kristopher Houseberg and his wife Brooke (Brownlee) Houseberg of Wichita, KS; his grandchildren: Grace Jones, Hayden Houseberg and Huxton Houseberg; his sister: Pam (Houseberg) Lipton of Andover; other family and friends.&nbsp;

Joseph R. “Joe” Lichti, 71, of Moundridge, died Feb. 14 surrounded by his family at the Newton Regional Medical Center. Joe, a lifelong resident of rural Moundridge, was born Sept. 19, 1952, in Newton to Raymond and Betty Lichti. He grew up on a farm west of Moundridge, learning to drive a tractor at the age of 6. He farmed most of his life and was employed as a farm worker and large equipment operator. He served as a volunteer firefighter and reserve police officer in Moundridge.

Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was known for hosting fun social activities that sometimes involved roasting a pig or taking his friends pheasant hunting.

He was a member of the Eden Mennonite Church of Moundridge and served as usher. He went to Cloverleaf Grade School and graduated from Moundridge High School. He attended Bethel College in North Newton for a short time.

As a youth, Joe was a member of the Golden Opportunity 4-H Club and later the Future Farmers of America. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

On Aug. 9, 1975, he married Debra Sue Dirks at Eden Mennonite Church. They had three children, who gave him five grandchildren, who provided great pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, of the home; a son, Matthew and his wife Leah of Moundridge; a son, Tyler of McPherson; and daughter Samantha and her husband Heath Doane, of Canton; two grandsons, Atley and Zaiden Lichti; and three granddaughters, Preslie, Piper and Pixie Doane. He is also survived by his sisters, Lou Lichti of Frederick, MD, and Carol Lichti and husband Jim Haag of Victor, ID.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Eden Mennonite Church. Diane Lynn Williams, 67, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas.

She and her twin brother, Dan Roberts, were born on New Years Day, January 1, 1957 in Hutchinson, Kansas, she was the daughter of Richard Harold Roberts and Dona Marlene Roberts. With her father being a Pastor, the family lived in several places. Diane graduated from high school in Greensburg, Kansas in 1975.

She married Benny Mark Williams on April 22, 1979 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.&nbsp;&nbsp;The couple moved to Kansas from Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1987, where Diane worked as a C.N.A. at the Winfield State Hospital &amp; Training Center in Winfield, Kansas for several years. The couple then moved to Great Bend, Kansas where they made Great Bend their home.

Diane and Benny loved to travel in their RV across the county taking many vacations stopping at lakes, museums and many tourist attractions. They loved spending time with their family and making cherished memories.

Her husband Benny died on October 22, 2014. Diane moved from Great Bend to Hutchinson in 2018.

Diane loved her family tremendously and her most cherished moments and memories were made with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters April Williams-Harmon of Hutchinson and Amy Hartung with Evan McGee of Pretty Prairie, Kansas; son Brandon Williams with Karissa Wagner of Hutchinson; brothers Mike Roberts and wife Joy Roberts of Ponca City, Okla., Pat Roberts and wife Cindy Roberts of Shelby, N.C., Dan Roberts of Burrton, Ks., and Tim Roberts and wife Sherrie Roberts of Plevna, Ks.

Diane adored her grandchildren and they brought sunshine, meaning and purpose to her life. Her surviving grandchildren and their significant others are&nbsp;Marissa Kennedy with Josh Graves, Adrianna Kennedy with Karissa Williams, Garrett Kennedy with Ali Leiker, Hannah Seals with Jarell Seals, Bralee Williams with Blake Stegman, Bryson Hartung, Hayden Hartung, Alizanna Hartung, Brooklyn Williams, Azlyn Williams, Aidyn Chavez, Ariya McBlair, and Axtyn Wagner; along with two great grandchildren Braden Kennedy and Benny Graves.

Along with her husband, Benny Williams, Diane is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Dona Roberts, and brother Bret Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Affordable Cremations Plus, 7920 W. Kellogg Drive, Wichita, Ks.

Eddie Gaylord Jennings, 76, of Haysville, entered fully into the presence of our Lord and Savior on January 18, 2024.&nbsp; He was born in Little Rock, AR on January 29th, 1947, to Lewis Thomas Jennings and Claudia M'rhea (Shipman) Jennings. He was a graduate of West High School, Wichita. After graduation he served in the US Navy. His career as a mechanic carried over into his great love for race cars and drag racing which he greatly enjoyed helping others by being part of the crew.

Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn "Jody" Goodwin; daughter, Djuana Wishon; sons Ricky and Danny Goodwin; sister, Sharon Meeks; brothers, Tommy and Patrick Jennings.

Walter George Cugler, 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13th, at his home in Lorraine, KS.

George was born December 21, 1946, in Delmar, MD, to the late Clayton "Sarge" Cugler and Anna K Cugler.

George worked for 32 years for Dupont in Seaford, DE, retiring as a Plant Control Room Operator. He loved to fish and was known for being a Bass Master Pro, winning several bass tournaments up and down the East coast. He also enjoyed landscaping, hunting, and bullshitting with his buddies over morning coffee.&nbsp;

He is survived by his son, Randall L. Cugler of Delmar, DE, his daughter, Melissa L (Bob) Varcados of Lorraine, KS, his sister, Mary F. Loscomb of Lorraine, KS, his grandchildren, Ashley B (Matt) Beaver of Hoisington, KS, Ronald S. Bennett III of Rehoboth, DE, Tiffany M.L. Baken of Loveland, CO, Cynda Cugler of Seaford, DE, Kristin T. (Kolten) Palmer of Meeker, CO, and 16 great grand children.&nbsp;

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Vicki L. Cugler, his son, Clayton D. Cugler, and his brother, Michael Cugler.

George will be greatly missed and all of his crazy "stories" will never be forgotten. He was truly one of a kind.

Royce Lee Yager, 73, passed away peacefully February 11, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis with his loving partner Marcia and daughter Stephanie by his side. &nbsp;Royce, the youngest of two brothers, was born June 16, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Regis and Mary Joan (Collins) Yager, Sr.

He attended Nickerson Schools, and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, in the 101st Airborne Reconnaissance Platoon. &nbsp;He retired as a road operator after 12 years of service with Reno County Public Works. &nbsp;

Royce had an immense passion for music. He enjoyed a variety of music from the 50s through the 80s eras which included a lot of Motown. &nbsp;His adventurous spirit led to his interests, including guns, fishing, classic muscle cars, and building computers. &nbsp;He was known to be strong willed and stubborn at times, but always carried himself with dignity and strength. Those close to him will always fondly remember his fun, lighthearted sarcasm and witty sense of humor.

Royce was a principled man of integrity in search of the truth. In his final days, he deeply contemplated his faith, recommitted himself to Christ, and was baptized.

Royce is survived by: &nbsp;common-law wife, Marcia Cotter of Arlington; daughters, Stephanie Wright (Michael) of Yates Center, and Deena Fuller (Jim) of Wakarusa; brother and best friend, Regis Yager, Jr. (Carol Dirksen) of Nickerson; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two dogs, Paxton (Puppy) and Caesar (Goober); several loyal friends; and extended family members.

Catherine ‘Cathy’ L. Borders, 87, died February 11, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society-Hutchinson Village. &nbsp;She was born September 21, 1936, in Anthony, KS, to Harry Delbert Seifert and Opal Iola (Bohnert) Seifert.

Cathy was a 1954 graduate of Hutchinson High School. &nbsp;She was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Gold Wing Touring Association, and Hutchinson Wesleyan Church.

Cathy enjoyed doing word search puzzles. &nbsp;She was a homemaker and loved it when the family was together celebrating special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. &nbsp;Cathy’s most important titles in her life were wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

On August 20, 1954, she married Robert Gene Borders in Joplin, MT. &nbsp;They shared over 54 years of marriage, prior to his death on June 1, 2009.

She was a secretary and member of the Andover Lutheran Church in rural Windom, KS.

Donna M. Bontrager Martin of Hesston, KS died February 2, 2024, after an 11-month journey with cancer. Donna was born on May 22, 1939, to Jerry J. and Edna Bontrager, the youngest of four children. She grew up on their family farm near Yoder, KS. Donna attended Haven High School for two years, graduated from Hesston Academy and attended Hesston College for one year. At the Academy, she met the love of her life, Larry Martin, and married in December 1957. They farmed together in Minot, ND for 38 years and raised three children.&nbsp;

Donna was active in her church, singing duets with Larry and served as Sunday School superintendent. Donna worked with Stonecroft Ministries for 20 years, as area representative and shared her faith story at Christian Women’s Club events in the North Central region and several Canadian provinces.&nbsp;

In 1987, intrigued by the art of trapunto, Donna created greeting cards and then framed art. From a fun hobby emerged a thriving business, Memories by Donna. After she and Larry moved to Hesston, KS in 1995, Larry framed her art and they traveled together to many craft shows in the U.S. Donna loved her family, friends, flowers, decorating and sharing her peanut brittle. Donna’s bright light and laughter will be deeply missed.&nbsp;

Donna is survived by daughter Torrie Martin, grandson Holden Brubaker and partner Alisha Alomia, Lancaster, PA; son Kendall Martin and daughter-in-law Deborah (Maust) Martin, Dousman, WI; son Kirby and daughter-in-law Darcie (Messerli) Martin, Hesston, KS, grandson Chase and wife Jordan Martin, great granddaughter, Isabelle, Ft. Worth, TX, and grandson Brock Martin, Topeka, KS. Donna is survived by her sister Grace Hershberger, Goshen, IN, sister Lola Faye and brother-in-law Bob Yoder, Wellman, IA, sister-in-law Carol Bontrager, Hutchinson, KS and many beloved nieces and nephews. Donna is survived by her sister Grace Hershberger, Goshen, IN, sister Lola Faye and brother-in-law Bob Yoder, Wellman, IA, sister-in-law Carol Bontrager, Hutchinson, KS and many beloved nieces and nephews. Donna was predeceased by her parents, husband Larry, an infant brother Glen, brother Ray Bontrager, Hutchinson, KS, as well as brothers-in-law John Hershberger and Lowell Erb.&nbsp;Donna is also survived by sisters-in-law Gladene Bontrager and Dorothy Zook, Hesston, KS, brother-in-law Delvin Martin, Glendale, AZ, brother-in-law Kermit Martin and sister-in-law Patricia Martin, Fresno, CA. Leesa Anne Mersereau, 61, of Canton, Kansas, passed away on February 11th after a courageous battle with cancer.

Leesa was born on March 15th, 1962 in Burlingame, KS. She was raised the majority of her childhood in Topeka, KS, and later relocated with her family to Claremore, OK in her teen years where she attended various schools. She raised her children in the Wichita, KS, and Claremore, OK regions. Later in life, she met her husband, Bill Mersereau and they were currently living in Canton, KS at the time of her passing.

Anyone who ever met Leesa knew two things; she loved Jesus, and she loved people. She demonstrated this love by always being willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was passionate about four things; God, family, church, and serving others. She could always be counted on to offer an encouraging word and give one of her famous hugs. She loved to craft, go antiquing with her sister, and spend time with her friends and family. She will be greatly missed but we rejoice knowing she is in the eternal presence of God based on her faith in Jesus Christ.

Leesa is preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie. And is survived by her loving husband Bill, five children, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and countless friends and family members who all loved her greatly.

The memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Newton, KS on Friday, February 16th at 2 pm. The dress is casual. Charlyn Kay “Char” Swofford, 59, died February 13, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 7, 1965, to Patricia Ann (Keller) Pennock.

Char graduated from Hutchinson High School. &nbsp;She worked as a phlebotomist at the Hutchinson Clinic for many years. &nbsp;In addition, Char worked at Wesley Towers Retirement Community, ensuring the Thorne Care residents were filled with activities, crafts, laughter, hugs, and unconditional love. &nbsp;Most recently, she was the store manager for Bornholdt Plantland, where she gained a second family with Gary, Charla, and the Bornholdt boys, while doing what she loved- digging in the dirt, working with plants, and helping others so they too could have a beautiful yard and flowers. &nbsp;Char enjoyed working on craft projects, riding her Harley-Davidson Trike, and cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks. &nbsp;Despite her health challenges, she was always wanting to help others with her loving heart and bubbly and positive personality. &nbsp;Char remained upbeat no matter how she was feeling. &nbsp;

Char is survived by: &nbsp;her mother, Pat Pennock of Hutchinson; siblings, Michael Pennock of Oceanside, CA, LeAnn Mease (Lamont) of Wichita, and Terri Maddox (Charles) of Sunset, TX; nieces, Lana Lambert (Josh) of Inman and Jamie Wood (Tyler) of Hutchinson; her precious great-nephew, Sebastian and great-niece, Aria Wood; and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by: her dad, Jack; son, Wesley T. Swofford; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at Lerado Cemetery, Langdon. Joan Margaret Drake, 92, of Hutchinson, died February 13, 2024, at Reflection Living. She was born February 20, 1931, in Essex, England, to George and Lily Cox.

In addition to being a homemaker, Joan worked at Baize Jewelers for over 40 years and then at JC Penney after retirement. She loved music and singing, her “English Garden,” and was also an excellent seamstress. Joan was a member of Union Valley Bible Church and was active in Young At Hearts.

On February 14, 1953, she married Gerald J. “Duck” Drake, in Hutchnson. They shared 62 years of marriage before his death on March 4, 2015.

Joan is survived by: her sons, Steven &amp; Karen Drake and Richard &amp; Toni Drake of Hutchinson, Robert &amp; Lisa Drake of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Heather &amp; Ben Bocell of Dallas, TX, Drs. Carl “Wayne” Trimble (85), beloved son, husband, brother, father, grandpa, uncle and friend, peacefully left this life on February 11, 2024 and is now in the arms of Jesus. He was born October 23, 1938 in Ludlow, Oklahoma to his parents Carl and Ellen Trimble who proceeded him in death. He married the love of his life, Toni Faye Bensch on September 4, 1956.&nbsp;They had a long love story of 67 1/2 &nbsp;years together. They had three children, Steve Trimble who preceded them in death. Jeﬀ (Kathy) Trimble of Valley Center, KS, Brenda (Greg) Williams also of Valley Center, KS. He was blessed with seven grandchildren. Nikki (Ryan) VanWart Hillsboro, KS, Mandy (Bruce) Hebert, Newton, KS, Toby Decker, Wichita, KS, Chelsea&nbsp;(Mike) Simmon, Wichita, KS, Steﬀanie (Andrew) Moore, Wichita, KS, Jessica (Matt) Maestas, Wyoming and Andrea Gonzales (Chris Castellon), Wichita, KS and many great grandchildren. His love of music was handed down to many family members. He was also a gifted guitarist, Structural Steel Fabricator and loved to dabble in sculpting metal art projects such as stage coaches, wacky faced ﬁgures in action (playing a guitar, drums, slot machine etc.). He also dabbled in oil painting a few years. &nbsp;He will be greatly missed by each and everyone of us who knew and loved him dearly. However, we have the assurance that we will see him again one day soon in heaven.&nbsp;

Graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick, Kansas on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
