Robert Leon “Bob” Rue, 83, of South Hutchinson, died August 8, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born June 27, 1941, in Burrton, to John R. and Dorothy L. (Anderson) Rue.

Bob was a family man who loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, and the Green Bay Packers. Bob was an Army veteran of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley. He retired from the steel industry in 2011. Bob enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour books and watching old western movies.

He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Darlene “Sue” Rue. He was the proud father of son, Robert W. Rue and daughter, Joni M. Huston, and the Papa of 5 grandchildren, Teighlor, Teryhn, Roshaun, C.J., Ryan; and 5 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Marla, Adelaide, Felicity, and Paisley.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Bill, Johnny, and Kenneth.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
