Richard Lee “Dick” Mehl, 81, of Hutchinson, died February 22, 2024, at his home. He was born September 26, 1942, in Ellsworth, Kansas, to A.C. “Shorty” and Mary “Odah” (Fail) Mehl.

Dick graduated from Holyrood High School in 1960. In 1963, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served until 1967. On October 12, 1968, Dick married Mona Louise Greer, in Mesa, Arizona. They shared 55 years of marriage. He worked as maintenance mechanic and retired with Eaton Corporation. Dick was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, playing card games with family and friends and volunteering at the church. He loved being outside and always planted a great garden with Mona. His grandkids always knew to jump into grandpa’s lap so they could grab a mint from his front pocket. They also knew to never challenge grandpa to a handshake contest because they were guaranteed to lose. One of his fondest memories was taking an extended two-week trip with his beloved wife, Mona, to Arizona to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

He is survived by: wife, Mona Mehl, Hutchinson; sons, Darren Mehl (Geena), Lincoln, Nebraska, Brandon Mehl (Letishia), Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Damon Mehl (Erika), Jacob Mehl (Kelsey), Lauren Brown (Sam), Cami Brannen, Conner Mehl (Megan); and seven great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 11 am Monday, February 26, 2024, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (lunch following the service). For those that cannot attend the Memorial service it will be streamed live on orlhutch.org. Burial will follow at 2:30 pm in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Holyrood, Kansas. Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday at Elliott Mortuary and the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Frances J. Martin, 97, of Houston, TX, died February 20, 2024, at Apex Oaks at Cypress Assisted Living, Houston, TX. She was born April 10, 1926, in Hutchinson, KS, to Charles Lee and Gertrude T. (Bressler) Detter.&nbsp;

Frances was a 1944 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She attended Hutchinson Community College and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1948. Frances was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She worked as a journalist for the Hutchinson News Herald and a librarian for the Palm Beach County School District in Florida. She was a bookkeeper for the Naturalizer Shoe Store in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, which her husband owned.

Frances was a member of Jersey Village Baptist Church, Houston, TX. She was a 77 year member of P.E.O. and would become a member of a P.E.O. chapter wherever she lived.

On March 23, 1952, she married George D. Martin, Jr., at the First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 61 years of marriage, prior to his death on April 14, 2013.

Frances is survived by: children, Ruth (Mack) Preece-Duncan of Houston, TX, Phillip (Maria) Martin of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) Carroll of Cypress, TX, Brandon (Jessica) Preece of Houston, TX, Erik (Kristin) Martin of Atlanta, GA, Jenelle (Geoff) McNeill of Jupiter, FL; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Jack, and Emily Carroll of Cypress, TX, Ava and Caiden McNeill of Jupiter, FL, Daniel and Noah Preece of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and four brothers.

Marie Mitchell, 97, passed away on February 20, 2024, at Thorne Care Center- Wesley Towers, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born on January 8, 1927, to Elijah and Bessie Bowman Reeves in Thayer, KS.

Marie married Jimmie Lee Mitchell on August 1, 1978. &nbsp;He passed December 19, 1993. &nbsp; She was an excellent homemaker who thoroughly loved her family. &nbsp;She was the epitome of how to treat all people. &nbsp;Marie was a faithful woman. &nbsp;In her younger years, she was known for gardening and making lots of apple pies. &nbsp;She enjoyed bingo, activities at the Delos Smith Senior Center, sewing Barbie clothes for her granddaughter as well as creating stuffed animals (enjoyed stuffies until the end) and being a part of whatever was going on. &nbsp;Marie loved the activities with Tanda at Thorne. &nbsp;Her dogs- Muffin and Tinkerbell- were her loyal companions.

Marie is survived by her children: Connie Ankenman of Hutchinson, Patricia Geiger of Erie, Debbie Schiffelbein of Garden City; her brother Donald Reeves of Chanute; three grandchildren- Ginger Bauer of Burrton, Thad Ankenman of Olathe and Adam Ankenman of Hutchinson, nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; her parents; husband; grandson Micah; two great-grand babies; brothers Faye, Roy, Wayne and Larry; and sisters Ethel, Marjorie and Norma.

Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;There will be a private family inurnment in the Abbey Columbarium- Memorial Park, Chanute, KS.

Frank Almanza Jr., 86, died February 21, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July, 23, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Francisco and Felis (Ponce) Almanza.

After his high school graduation, Frank joined the United States Navy. He worked as a correctional officer for the Kansas Department of Corrections in Hutchinson, he retired after 28 years of service.

Frank enjoyed playing golf, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Hutchinson.

On March 19, 1965, he married the love of his life, Rumaldita ‘Romey’ Serna, in Albuquerque, NM. They shared over 58 years of marriage.

Frank is survived by: his loving wife, Romey Almanza of Hutchinson; sons, Daniel (Katherine) Almanza of Lawrence, KS, and Christopher (Ying) Almanza of Winfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Ave., Hutchinson, KS. Melissa Ann (Sanchez) Garcia, 49, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, after a 4 year battle with cancer. She was born November 4, 1974, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Jimmy and Linda Mendoza) Sanchez Sr.

Melissa graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1993. She played the saxophone and participated in the marching bands during her school years. She enjoyed playing games and spending time with her family. She loved music, dancing and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Melissa is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Linda.

She is survived by her wife, Holly Hoyle; son’s Chase Sanchez and Gabriel Hoyle; sisters, Sonya, Susan, and Denise; and brothers, Jimmy and David.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., February 24, 2024 and Celebration of Life will follow at 10:30 a.m., both at New Resurrection Church, 1500 Forrest St. Hutchinson, KS. Gregorio Franco, 92, went to his heavenly home February 19, 2024. He was born January 7, 1932, in La Plata, Puerto Rico, the son of Navaro and Isidra (Rodriquez) Franco.&nbsp;

He moved to Michigan for work and soon learned of a job available at Hay and Forge in Hesston. He worked there as a crew chief in the shipping department from a year after it opened until his retirement.&nbsp;

He married Edna Mae Goad April 30, 1960. They had two children and moved to Walton where Greg proudly raised his children and his huge garden, often suppling many neighbors. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He took great pride watching each grandchild and great-grandchild as they grew and even helped him in his garden. He gave his heart to the Lord last year making that one of his and his family’s happiest day.

He is survived by his children, Cheri (Patrick) Stabler and David Franco; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Dustin) Flaming, Steven (Cyndi), Matthew Nathaniel Stabler, Jacob (Natalie), and Kylee Franco; six great-grandchildren, Dakota, Alexi, Jackson, Zoey, Brooks, and Benjamin.&nbsp;

Greg was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; and siblings, Salvador, Angel Louis, Herminia, Flora, and Louisa.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be 10am, Tuesday, February 27, at The Church of God of the Firstborn, 125 E. 10th, Newton, with Pastor Charles Brackeen presiding. Visitation will be from 5-9p.m. the evening prior, Monday, February 26, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas.&nbsp;

Etha Rose Nafranovich, 87 of Kechi Ks, passed away on Saturday February 17th at her home.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born Timbo, Ark., the daughter of Herman W. Martin and Enda Marie (Rose) Martin.&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed going to garage sales, traveling and camping. She also loved all animals and had never met&nbsp;a stranger. Most of all, she loved her family!

Etha Rose was preceded in death by her father, Herman W. Martin, her mother Enda Marie Rose Orr, her&nbsp;spouse Edward A. Nafranovich, her sisters Billie Sue Kersey, Linda Kay Ancsin, Sherry Ann Reel and&nbsp;Jamie Yvonne Gorges, niece Michelle Ancsin Bergsma, nephews Trent Niles Lopeman and Tyson Ray&nbsp;Lopeman.

She is survived by her daughters, Roselie Redford of Newkirk OK, Jerhonda Wanko of Newkirk OK, Billie&nbsp;Jean Anderson of Kechi KS, Teresa Barnes of Kechi KS and her son Thomas Leo Barnes Jr.&nbsp; &nbsp;She is also survived by her sisters Betty (Tom) Patry from Valley Center KS, and Cindy Martin of Blackwell Ok,&nbsp;grandchildren Justin Anderson, Shauna Rose Anderson, Elle Lee Barnes, Kirk Brown, Christopher&nbsp;Redford, Robert Redford, Jennifer Clark and Shannon Randol, as well as 10 Great grandchildren and&nbsp;7 great great grandchildren.

Service will be held 2:00pm Friday, February 23rd, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, 100 S.Cedar, Valley&nbsp;Center KS. Graveside service will follow at Kechi Township Cemetery at 6523 N.Hillside Ave.

David "Dave" Glen Oursler, a devoted patriarch, respected community member, and hardworking businessman, passed away on February 19, 2024, in Peabody, Kansas. He was born on January 29, 1950, in El Dorado, Kansas. David's legacy is a tapestry woven with threads of dedication and love for his family, friends, and community.

David's journey in the construction industry began in 1967 when he purchased his first trencher. This marked the inception of his own construction company, "Oursler Brother's," which later evolved into "Middlecreek Corp." The bond of brotherhood strengthened when Frank joined David in their shared venture in 1969. Their collaboration reshaped landscapes and built foundations that would endure for generations.

While David's career achievements were notable, his proudest accomplishment lay in nurturing the legacy he built. In 2021, he passed on the reins of the family business to his son Rodney after 55 years of unwavering dedication. This transition allowed Dave to step into a well-deserved retirement knowing that the future of the company rested securely in Rodney and Frank's capable hands. Complementing this familial team are a nephew, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and grandson who continue to uphold David's values and work ethic.

Beyond his professional endeavors, David cherished moments spent with loved ones and pursuing his hobbies. Boating adventures, coyote hunting escapades, camping retreats, and watching trains pass by from his driveway brought him immense joy. His resilient spirit shone brightly even as he faced health challenges.

In 2015, David was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a battle he faced with courage and grace. Janet's unwavering support as she retired from her career as a para for PBES in 2016 to care for him epitomized their enduring bond.

David's civic contributions were equally impactful. Serving on the Council for the City of Peabody for eight years, he spearheaded initiatives that enhanced the community infrastructure. His efforts led to transformative projects such as bringing Hillsboro water to Peabody and overseeing the installation of a new water tower and fire trucks—all accomplished at no cost to the town.

Preceded in death are David's parents and brother Harley Oursler.

Reid was a Junior at Buhler High School. He loved God, family and friends. Hunting and fishing were his passion. He was on the Fishing Team and FFA at Buhler High School.

In 1946, Bob was born to Johnny and Bonnie Lucas in Goodland, KS.&nbsp;

Bob is survived by his wife, Georgia, of 58 years, two daughters, Shauna Eash and Robyn Harbert, grandchildren, Lucas (Shayla) Avery, Cody (Erica Hays) Lucas, James (Kali) Avery, Jared (Alexia) Eash, Tyler (Amanda) Eash, Linday Eash, Kelsy (Caeden) Fly, and seventeen great grandchildren, sister Donna Konrade and niece, Tammy Priest.&nbsp;

Bob graduated from Denver Colorado Barber college in 1965. He was employed as a barber for many years, and with Grant County Feedlot. Bob retired from Cargill Salt after 30 years.

His great love, besides his family, was animals. Especially horses, cattle, dogs and cats. He also ran numerous 5K's with his beloved canine best friend, Indigo.&nbsp;

Robert's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson.

Sonja Karin Smith, daughter of Fritjoff and Nendean (Stott) Mark, was born October 15, 1935, at McPherson Hospital in McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; Sonja survived mastoid infections in the 5th&nbsp;and 6th&nbsp;grades and was sent to a children’s ward at Wesley Hospital in Wichita to receive penicillin treatments, as that medication was not available in McPherson.

Sonja attended Washington Elementary School and graduated in 1953 from McPherson Senior High School.&nbsp; She went on to McPherson College and graduated from there in 1957. She was an elementary school teacher.&nbsp;

Sonja and sister, Inga, were baptized together by Rev. Walter Upton at the First Congregational Church chapel in McPherson.&nbsp;

Sonja enjoyed roller skating and met her future husband at Petersons Roller Rink, rural McPherson.&nbsp; Paul and Sonja were married July 13, 1958, by Rev. Alfred Bartter at the First Congregational Church in McPherson.&nbsp; They went on a honeymoon trip, driving to San Francisco, California.&nbsp; Paul passed away on October 15, 2016.

Sonja enjoyed farm life, raising a garden, and canning.&nbsp; She was a member of the Daughters of the Union Veterans, and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, Sunday school teacher, and also played the piano, violin, and cello.

Sonja passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; She was eighty-seven.

Survivors include son, Loren; daughter, Cara Dietterick and husband, John; grandsons, Maxfield Dietterick and Samel Dietterick; niece, Christine Langone; and step-niece, Debra Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Inga Lawrence.&nbsp;

Per Sonja’s wishes, there will be no service.&nbsp; The final resting place will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Ruth M. Neufeldt, 84, passed away February 19, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born May 14, 1939, to Vernon and Marie Hendrixson. She was then adopted by Henry and Marie Esau Willems in December, 1940. She had attended Central Christian High School. She married Lewis Neufeldt on May 16, 1956. They settled in a home in McPherson County. She had owned Ruthie’s Café and now Neufeldt’s Variety Store. She was an avid bowler and loved to do puzzles.

Survivors include her husband; her children; Rick (Lori) Neufeldt, Inman, Rod (Lee Brannon) Neufeldt, Newton, and Sonya (Paul) Harshberger, Hutchinson; a sister, Carol (Galen) Jantz, Inman; grandchildren, Tiffany (Brian) Vogts, Inman, Ashley (Nathan) Harold, McPherson, Lindsay (Justin) Shaff, Norfolk, VA, and Chelsea (Nick) Davis, Inman; and 10 great grandchildren.

Nicholas Dean “Nick” Urbin, 57, of Wichita, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.&nbsp; He&nbsp;was born on December 5, 1966 in Newton, Kansas to Robert &amp; Mary (Purkey) Urbin.

Nick attended Valley Center schools and graduated from Valley Center High School in 1985. &nbsp;He played football for VCHS and liked the competition of the defensive end position. &nbsp;After graduation, he held a variety of jobs and never shied away from hard work.&nbsp;

Nick’s passion were his children. &nbsp;He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan for many decades. &nbsp;He enjoyed his friends, hunting, fishing, cooking and finding new recipes to share.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Urbin; a brother, Rusty Urbin; grandparents, Donald &amp; Mary Jane Purkey and Jack &amp; Gertrude Urbin; aunts Kay Monge and Marjorie Purkey; uncle Donald “Bud” Purkey, Jr and cousin Donalyn “Doni” Arbuckle.

Nick is survived by his mother Mary Donna Urbin, sister Lora (Joey) King of Valley Center and brother Kelly Urbin of Valley Center. &nbsp;His three children Cherish (Alan) Freeman of Wichita, Faith Urbin and Luke Urbin both of (Grand Junction, CO) and two grandchildren Gavin and Charlotte; several nephews, three great nephews and many cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley Kansas.

 </figure>Nicholas Dean “Nick” Urbin, 57, of Wichita, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.&nbsp; He&nbsp;was born on December 5, 1966 in Newton, Kansas to Robert &amp; Mary (Purkey) Urbin.Nick attended Valley Center schools and graduated from Valley Center High School in 1985. &nbsp;He played football for VCHS and liked the competition of the defensive end position. &nbsp;After graduation, he held a variety of jobs and never shied away from hard work.&nbsp;Nick’s passion were his children. &nbsp;He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan for many decades. &nbsp;He enjoyed his friends, hunting, fishing, cooking and finding new recipes to share.He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Urbin; a brother, Rusty Urbin; grandparents, Donald &amp; Mary Jane Purkey and Jack &amp; Gertrude Urbin; aunts Kay Monge and Marjorie Purkey; uncle Donald “Bud” Purkey, Jr and cousin Donalyn “Doni” Arbuckle.Nick is survived by his mother Mary Donna Urbin, sister Lora (Joey) King of Valley Center and brother Kelly Urbin of Valley Center. &nbsp;His three children Cherish (Alan) Freeman of Wichita, Faith Urbin and Luke Urbin both of (Grand Junction, CO) and two grandchildren Gavin and Charlotte; several nephews, three great nephews and many cousins.A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley Kansas.Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center has charge of the arrangements. Frances attended Cressey and Hilmar, California schools.

She was a member of the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in rural Hesston.

Frances was united in marriage to Duane A. Holdeman on October 5, 1952 in Creswell, OR. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her son, Daniel (Linda) Holdeman of Stapleton, GA; daughter-in-law, Wanda (Gladwin) Koehn of Gentry, AR; sons, Caleb (Joanne) Holdeman of Riceville, IA, Stanley (Kathy) Holdeman of Hartwell, GA, Harold (Irene) Holdeman of Rio Verde, Brazil, and Lester (Sharon) Holdeman of Pryor, OK; daughters, Priscilla (Arlo) Hibner of Rio Verde, Brazil, Irene (Sidney) Schmidt of Adair, OK, and Adeline (Staven) Schmidt of El Campo, TX; 31 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jacob (Betty) Loewen of Rio Verde, Brazil, and Isaac (Rosalie) Loewen of Glenn, CA; and sisters, Salome (Eugene) Unruh of Moundridge, and Lois Holdeman of Russellville, AR.

Michael attended St. Mary Catholic Church in his younger years. He was a 1980 graduate of Newton High School and worked for several years for the City of Newton Sanitation Department. He also worked in the aircraft industry in Wichita and Excel in Hesston.&nbsp;

He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles having owned both a soft tail and Sportster bike. He was a race fan and enjoyed time at the Wichita International Raceway. &nbsp;He enjoyed attending car shows with his family, especially the Newton Downtown Car Show and cruise nights. &nbsp;Family was important to Michael, and he looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends. He also shared his love with his Boston Terrier, Braxton.He is survived by his brother, Todd Sturgeon, sister, Crystal (Sturgeon) Ruiz, many nieces, nephews, great nephews, a great niece, and many extended family members.&nbsp;Michael is preceded in death by his parents.Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church with The Reverend Andrew Bergkamp leading the Rosary. Edward ‘Ed’ James Martinez, 82, died February 17, 2024, at his home in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;He was born August 8, 1941, in Halstead, KS, to Santiago “Jim” P. Martinez and Maria Santos (Baltierra) Martinez.

Ed was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. &nbsp;He served in the Kansas National Guard. &nbsp;Ed was an instructor at Hutchinson Community College for 14 years and was one of the organizers of the HCC Mexican American Advisory Committee. While in college, he served on the Affirmative Action Committee advocating for equality. &nbsp;He was employed in the family-owned business, Martinez and Sons, a manufacturing machine shop. &nbsp;Ed then went to work at Mission Tortillas and retired as the district sales manager for Tortilla King.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He served on numerous boards and committees, such as the American Red Cross, Farmers Home Administration, Hutchinson Public Library Board, Our Lady of Guadalupe Athletic Committee, and First Call for Help to name just a few. &nbsp;Ed coached the Hutchinson Los Lobos Fastpitch Softball Team for over 25 years. &nbsp;On October 24, 1964, he married Mary Louise Sapien. &nbsp;They later divorced.

William S. “Bill” Michelstetter, 65, died February 17, 2024, at Hospice House of Hutchinson, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born March 15, 1958, in Hutchinson, to William and Carma Leta (Nelson) Michelstetter. &nbsp;He fought a lengthy, but courageous battle with GPA, formerly known as Wegener’s Granulomatosis (a rare autoimmune disease) and a new diagnosis of MDS/Myelodysplasia Syndrome (a rare blood cancer).&nbsp;

Bill graduated from Buhler High School in 1976, and he worked various places as a product designer. He retired in March of 2023 from Kuhn Krause after 15 years of service. &nbsp;Bill enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping and spending many summers at Kanopolis Lake. He was a die- hard St Louis and Arizona Cardinal fan. Bill and his wife, Linda, enjoyed visiting Bella Vista, AR every year to play as many golf courses as they could. In addition, he enjoyed coaching “Team Lightning Wrestling Club” for 8 years. Bill loved his family more than anything. He was a member of Inspire Church, Hutchinson.

On June 9, 1978, he married the love of his life Linda Meister, in Hutchinson, KS.

Bill is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of almost 46 years, Linda of Hutchinson; children, Laura Friesen (Kim) of Eagle River, AK, Jennifer Sullivant (Todd), and Kyle Michelstetter (Sierra); sister, Barbara Schneider (Steve), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Gage Friesen (Miriam), Kadon Friesen, Malia Friesen, Talon Sullivant, Cohen Sullivant, Nataleigh Sullivant, Tyson Michelstetter, and Jacoby Michelstetter; great-grandchildren, Hazel Friesen and Amelia Friesen; stepmom Carolyn Michelstetter; stepsister, Kathy Martin of Shawnee; stepbrother, Randy Martin of Missouri; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his four-legged companion, Heidi Sue.&nbsp;

Ken was an avid coin dealer since his youth and sold coins all over the United States and some foreign countries. &nbsp;In March 2006 he was featured in an article in the World Coin News. &nbsp;He discovered a reverse doubled-die that was restricted to the virtual dead center of the design on a 1965 Canadian 1-cent piece.

On September 4, 1988 he married Bonita Ellington and resided in Wichita until his death.He is survived by his wife, Bonita; children, Susan Glasgow, Jerry (Martha) Hymer, Kimberly Hymer, Connie (Todd) Myers; 8 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5:00 - 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Petersen Family Funeral Home. Private family internment has been planned.

Tamara “Tami” Newcom, 64, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. She was born on May 6, 1959, the daughter of Glenda and Marvin Cunningham.

She was a proud resident of Lincoln, KS and was a graduate of Southern NH University where she earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. She worked as a business development manager for Enel Green Power North American, possessing exceptional business and systems knowledge. Her family and friends were her two biggest passions.Tami was preceded in death by her parents, Glenda and Marvin.She is survived by her dear friend Ginny Bennett; son, Johnathan Murdock of Herber Springs, AR; grandson, Daniel Ray Cloud, and great grandson, Oliver Phoenix Cloud both of Jasper, AR.

Suzi Lynn Fisher, 70, of Hutchinson, died February 18, 2024, at Hospice House. She was born June 2, 1953, in Dallas, TX, to Samuel A. and Syble J. (Ziegler) Young.

Suzi graduated from Garland High School in 1971 and attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX, where she studied opera. Moving to Hutchinson in 1975, Suzi worked in the cosmetics departments at Peques Department Store, Terry Bloskey’s Clothing Store, and then at Nieman Marcus, in Dallas, from 1982 to 1999. Together, Suzi and Doug owned Yesterday's Treasures and The Tiffany House and Suzi managed Suzi’s Place boutique. She also obtained her real estate license and was an agent with Coldwell Banker. Suzi was an avid advocate for children and volunteered for CASA until they closed, and most recently with the Reno County Citizen Review Board. She also enjoyed performing at Stage 9 Theater and exercising at Genesis and Beatz Fitness. Suzi was a member of CrossPoint Church, where she was involved in Grow Groups and served as a Greeter and Serve Team Leader.

On November 20, 1976, Suzi married Douglas H. Fisher, in Sterling. He survives.

Also surviving are: their son, Josh Fisher (Michelle Johnson), brother, Michael A. Young (Michael Postal) of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; sister-in-law, Lynette Tompkins (Gregg) of Yukon, OK; brother-in-law, Steve Fisher of Los Angeles, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at CrossPoint Church, 1410 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson.

Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday thru Friday, with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Visions of Hope, CrossPoint Church, Hospice House, or Cancer Council of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Ila Marie (Proffitt) Linder, 86, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away February 17, 2024, in Lyons, Kansas.

A proud product of the prairie, Ila Marie Proffitt was born on August 20, 1937 in Sterling, Kansas. The only daughter of J.M. &amp; Lutie (Towse) Proffitt, Ila joined big brothers Wayne and Billy. Eventually baby brother, Gary, joined the scene. Endless memories were soon made by the Proffitt four, first, out in the sandhills by Alden, then south of Sterling in pastures near the Arkansas River. Ila was proud to be the daughter and sister of farmers and she herself was active in 4H and completing before and after school farm chores. Ila graduated form Sterling High School in 1955, where she participated in band, FHA, 4H &amp; Y-Teens. After high school, Ila attended Grace School of Nursing in Hutchinson, Kansas and graduated as a proud Registered Nurse. It was her nursing school classmate, Irene, who would introduce her to a young Army man, Rex Linder. Rex and Ila were married at Sterling United Methodist Church on September 29, 1958. The army would take Rex &amp; Ila and their four children, Cathy, Roger, Mike, and Nancy to Kansas, Germany, Georgia and Washington, moving a total of 19 times. With four kids in tow, there was no doubt where Ila would go during Rex’s two tours in Vietnam: home to Sterling. After Rex’s retirement from the U.S. Army, the family settled in Clay Center, Kansas.

After the kids were done with high school, Ila began working at the Clay County Health Department until she retired as the Director In 1997. With the retirement chapter ahead of them, Ila and Rex knew where they should go: home to Sterling. Rex and Ila quickly settled in just south of town and enjoyed time gardening, spoiling their grandchildren, and spending time in their community. Never one to be fully still, Ila spent hours with her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and of course- her brothers. Additionally, she worked a few hours a week at the Rice County Health Department in Lyons. After Rex’s passing in 2012, Ila moved into town and enjoyed traveling, lunching with friends, but most importantly, her family. She was proud to have raised a respiratory therapist, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, a pharmacist, and a teacher. She was incredibly proud of their grandchildren and their accomplishments in their personal and professional lives. She was especially keen on the addition of Megs, Hanna, Jaime, Eric, and Olivia. But, in all honesty, no one else could compare with Arya, Ryker, &amp; Tommy- the great grands. Ila Proffitt Linder was meticulous. She was marvelous. She was our matriarch. She will always be missed.

Ila was proceeded in death by her husband Rex, her brothers- Wayne (Ruth), Billy (Joann), and Gary (Joanna) Proffitt, her parents, J.M. &amp; Lutie Proffitt, and her Linder brothers and sisters-in -law.

She is survived by her four children, Cathy Lutz, Roger (Connie) Linder, Mike, and Nancy (Tom) Rundel, Her ten grandchildren, Maj. Jerad (Jaime) Linder, Dustin (Maeghan) Linder, Case Rundel, Emily Lutz, Will Lutz (Olivia Marks), Colton (Hanna) Rundel, Sam Linder, Elly Lutz (Eric Gordon), John Linder and Morgan Blackim. And three great grandchildren, Arya and Ryker Linder and Tommy Rundel. Other surviving family include brother-in-law, Gene Stout, sisters-in-law Donna and Paula Proffitt, and a host of Proffitt and Linder nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Sterling, with Pastor Amy Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 23, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or Sterling Main Street in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

Joan Elaine Wegele, 77, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 5:25 am, Sunday, February 18, 2024 at McPherson Health And Rehab, McPherson, KS.

Joan was born in Logan, Iowa on August 21, 1946, a daughter of Achsa (Dishon) and Kenneth Chichester, of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Joan attended the Logan and Missouri Valley, Iowa grade schools and graduated from Council Bluffs High School, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1964.

She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church.

Through the years Joan worked as a waitress for The Plaza, Sirloin Stockade, Red Coach, McPherson, Kansas. She then worked as a delivery person for McPherson Sentinel until she retired.She was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Gently Aged Ladies Quilting in McPherson, Kansas.

Joan enjoyed quilting, exercising and spending time with her friends and family.

Joan E. Chichester was united in marriage to Clarence L. Wegele on April 8, 1968 at McPherson, Kansas.
