Lila Ilene (Horst) Honeycutt |1939-2025|

Lila Ilene (Horst) Honeycutt was born on March 3, 1939, to John and Marie (Ross) Horst at home in rural Oak, NE. She was the 7th of 10 children in the family and passed away May 7, 2025. Lila attended grade school in Oak, NE and Nelson High School, Nelson, NE, graduating with the class of 1957. On December 1, 1957, Lila was united in marriage to Gerald Honeycutt in Ruskin, NE, and to this union two sons were born Steven and Joe.

They lived in Hutchinson, KS till they moved to the rural residence near Haven, KS in 1973.

Lila worked for many businesses over the years mostly in customer service. Among these were Kress, Duffens Optical, Far-Mar-Co, Farmland Industries and retired from Kroger.

Lila enjoyed sewing often making clothing for her kids and herself. She reupholstered and refinished furniture for her home. She enjoyed her house plants and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Later in life, she enjoyed watching game shows and playing handheld video games. The best part of the 52 years of living near Haven was being able to watch the wildlife outdoors.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven Honeycutt, Haven, KS, and Joe (Carla) Honeycutt, Haven, KS. Five grandchildren: Michael Honeycutt, Haven, KS, Cody Honeycutt, Haven, KS, Kayla (Jake) Sanders, Salina, KS, Aaron Honeycutt, Haven, KS and Austin Honeycutt, Haven, KS. Three great grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren. Sisters: Norma Walker, Winfield, AL, Donna Genung, Deshler, NE, sisters-in-law Lana Horst, Edger, NE, Marlys McClure, Nelson, NE, brother-in-law Mike (Trish) Honeycutt Deweese, NE and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Gerald, parents, sisters: Evaline Hinz, Lillie Hofferber, Vera Schriever, Verna Brandt, brothers: Robert, Alfred and Johnny Horst, brothers-in-law: Eldred Hinz, Eugene Walker, Myron Schriever, Donald Hofferber, Rodger Dondlinger, Marvin Honeycutt and Curtis Honeycutt, sisters-in-law: Janice Horst, Donna Lammers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the Haven United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Laurel Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, at Ott Funeral Home.
