Nelson ‘Bob’ Alva Metzler, Jr., 84, passed away November 23, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 21, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Nelson A. and Belle (Stewart) Metzler, Sr.

Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1955. He was the owner/operator of Metzler Dump Truck Service, retiring after 50 years.  Bob spent most of his time hauling sand for Concrete Enterprises, working as a patrolman with the Hutchinson Police Department, and at Dillon’s bakery. 

On January 18, 2003, he married his childhood sweetheart, Theda Lorene Davis, in Hutchinson.

Bob is survived by wife, Theda Metzler of Hutchinson; daughter, Cindy (Danny Ehrlich) Metzler of Hutchinson; son, Andy (Lori) Metzler of Ulysses; step-daughters, Dawn Ferratt of Tallahassee, FL, and Terri (David) Hoover of Lawrenceburg, KY; step-son, Scott (Joyce) Spears of San Antonio, TX; bonus daughter, Patty (Lindon) Gardner of Ulysses; brother, Lott (Evelyn) Metzler of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Rae Bandsma of Little Elm, TX; brothers-in-law, Marlin (Pat) Davis of Arkansas City, and Earl (Kim) Davis of Garland, TX; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchilden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Penny Warner; and sisters, Phyllis Thompson and Isabelle Gray.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Wayne Pittman officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2020, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.  Masks and social distancing are required.
