
Gerald (Jerry) Dean Critchfield, age 82 of Le Grand, IA, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2021, with his family by his side.
Services for Jerry will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Jerry was born in Englewood, Colorado, on May 27, 1938, to Denzel and Leiva (Schierkolk) Critchfield. He grew up in northwest Kansas with his 3 younger brothers. After graduating from Moreland High School in 1957, Jerry enlisted in the Army National Guard.
On Oct. 6, 1958, Jerry was married to LynnaVee Lou Cornelius in Medford, Oklahoma. Jerry and Lynn raised five boys during their 62 years of marriage while living in both Burrton, Kansas, and Conrad, Iowa. He made a living buying and selling rebuildable auto parts.
Jerry was an avid KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs fan. On a spring and summer day, you would find him either out at the lake fishing or in his garden. He loved watching western shows and spending time with his cats. He was also a dedicated scrap metal recycler for most of his life.
Jerry is survived his wife Lynn; sons Galen of Osawatomie, KS; Terry (Karren) of Burrton, KS; David (Debbie) of Marshalltown, IA; Nolen (Patty) of Burrton, KS; Larry (Nicole) of Conrad, IA. Grandchildren: Randi (Mike) Williams, Jaime (Hobz) Hooley, Jordan (JD) Soy, Cody, Byron (Jena), Dallas, Sara (Josh) Durner, Brady, Caleb (Jubilee), Chelsea (Matt) Wingfield, Tyler, Austin, Lacy, Dalton, and Cameron. Great- grandchildren: Bryant, Kennedy, Levi, Ashtyn, Lincoln, Madeline, Cooper, Gable, Ben, Ryan, Logan, Harvi, and Rayne. Brothers Darrell (Cathey) Critchfield of Hill City, KS; sister-in- law Sharon Davis of Springfield, MO; brother-in-law Doyle Cornelius of Reno, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Darwin.
