Lena Marie Barkman, 100, died March 23, 2021, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson. She was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Bixby, OK, to Jess Clinton and Alma Pearl (Cassidy) DeFriese.

Lena graduated from Seminole High School, Seminole, OK, in 1938, and Tulsa Business College, in 1939.&nbsp;

On July 7, 1941, she married Claude Leonard Barkman, Sr., in San Antonio, TX. Lena and Claude moved to Hutchinson in 1954, and were partners in Barkman Brothers Auto Service and Repair. Claude died January 30, 1997.&nbsp;

Lena was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, for over 60 years. With her guidance, the church library was established and is still enjoyed today by many; Lena was very conscientious, and took great pride in caring for the church library for over 30 years. In addition, she treasured being baptized in the River Jordan, and visiting Israel twice with her brother, Dick.

Lena is survived by sons, Claude Leonard Barkman, Jr. (Larryann), and Dennis Wayne Barkman (Linda); brother, Dick DeFriese (June); six grandchildren, Christina, Michelle, Ann, Melinda, Zach, and Rhett; seven great-grandchildren, Alexia, Devon, Kaleb, Victoria, Jonathan, Aron, and Georgia; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lena and Charliegh.&nbsp; Lena was adored by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and one sister.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson, with Chaplain Linda Ewert officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Lowell Stanley Heinrichs was born on June 6, 1936, the third child of Peter and Lillie (Boese) Heinrichs. He was born in the Salem Hospital in Hillsboro, KS. He grew up on the Heinrichs farm, homesteaded by his grandparents (Heinrichs) in the Canton, KS area. He attended the Emma Valley Grade School and graduated from Goessel High school in 1954. He attended the Springfield Mennonite Church near his home. He was baptized, upon confession of faith, in 1950 in a nearby farm pond by C. F. Plett.&nbsp;

On June 1, 1956, Lowell and Bonnie were married at Tabor Mennonite Church near Goessel, KS. During that time Reverend H. B. Schmidt was advising young couples getting married to go into 1-W service. Lowell and Bonnie moved to Evanston, Illinois where they both worked as nurse aids. Lowell worked mainly with male patients and Bonnie worked on the second floor. After two years in 1-W service, Lowell and Bonnie moved back home to Hillsboro, KS. He learned the auto body trade and worked at the Hillsboro Body Shop for 10 years. Lowell then worked at Reimer Body Shop as the shop foreman for the next 30 years. Lowell and Bonnie lived in several rental houses in Hillsboro until they bought a home on South Ash Street. Two sons were born to them. Romney was born in 1958 at Evanston Hospital and Kendall was born in 1959 at Bethesda Hospital.&nbsp; In 1970 they purchased and moved to the farm outside of Goessel where the boys grew up and attended school in Goessel.

When Lowell and Bonnie returned home from 1-W service they joined the Tabor Mennonite Church. Lowell was an active member there serving as a trustee, usher, and singing in Men’s groups. Lowell sang in the Tabor Men’s Quartet, providing music for many functions. Lowell enjoyed fishing and camping trips with family and friends. The family raised sheep and worked hard fixing up the family farm, planting trees, and doing landscape projects to improve the property. Most Saturdays would end up with a wiener roast around the bonfire. After retiring from Reimer Body Shop, Lowell started a body shop at their home in rural Goessel. Romney began working with Lowell doing collision work and restoring many classic cars, specializing in Mustangs. Lowell enjoyed restoring cars and tractors and liked doing quality work for his customers. A highlight was taking these cars and tractors to shows and visiting with people about them. Owning his own business, and working with his son Romney, were the most enjoyable and rewarding years of his body shop career. Lowell also enjoyed repairing and painting cars and tractors to be sold at the MCC Sale in Hutchinson.

Lowell and Bonnie enjoyed watching their sons and grandchildren in their sports and school activities. Their grandchildren have fond memories of camping and fishing with Grandpa. Lowell always had time for his grandchildren. A highlight was building a clubhouse with them so they could play in it when visiting.

Lowell and Bonnie enjoyed living on the farm until 2020 when they sold the property and moved to Lakeside Inclusive Apartments at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, KS. There he enjoyed fishing at Lake Vista and gardening. Lowell enjoyed growing and sharing produce with his family and friends. Watermelons, cucumbers and tomatoes were always welcomed by those close to him.

Lowell is survived by his wife Bonnie; son, Romney (Donna) Heinrichs, grandchildren, Andrew and Katrina of Hesston, KS; Kendall (Jana) Heinrichs; grandchildren, Vanessa and Logan of Wichita, KS; sister Carol (Walt) Friesen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lillie Heinrichs; sister Wanda (Richard) Harms.

Cremation is planned with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2021 at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Goessel. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 27, at Tabor Mennonite Church, rural Newton. Peggy J. Miller, 80, passed away March 21, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born March 26, 1940, in Hutchinson, to Ivan Emery and Evelyn Grace (Ely) Brunk.

Peggy was a 1958 graduate of Inman High School.&nbsp; She served as a board member for Hospice of Reno County and a former cancer organization. Peggy was a longtime member of Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson. She served in various positions of responsibility at the church, such as the coordinator of the nursery program and an Elder.

Peggy was a person who enjoyed her friends. She loved to entertain guests in her home and to have her home decorated in whatever holiday season was on the calendar. Peggy loved to travel, especially when her family was able to travel with her and her husband, Orvin. Her flower garden, known as ‘Kelly’s garden’, held a special place in her heart. Peggy was involved in many activities, but her greatest joy was her family and friends. She had many titles, but the most important ones were wife, mother, ‘Grandma Peggy’, and friend.

On June 5, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Orvin L. Miller, at the West Liberty Mennonite Church near McPherson. They shared over 62 years of marriage.

Peggy is survived by husband, Orvin L. Miller of Hutchinson; children, Kim (Rick) Pitzer of Hutchinson, Scott (Susan) Miller of Ames, IA, and Todd (Cindy) Miller of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Melissa (Kristopher) Strait of Centerton, AR, Jason (Brooksie) Pitzer of Hutchinson, Zachary, Zane and Kenzie Miller of Ames, IA, Jarrod (Dominique) Miller of Kansas City, KS, and Candace (Chad) Pauly of Overland Park; great-grandchildren, Blake and Jackson Strait, and Samantha Pitzer; mom, Mary Jane Brunk of South Hutchinson; brothers, Larry (Dorothy) Brunk and Dennis Smith, both of Inman; sister-in-law, Nancy Brunk of Inman; brother-in-law, Don (Chris) Miller of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Bob) Weaver of Hesston.

Heaven opened its doors to welcome Pedro (Pete) on March 17, 2021 in the company of his loving wife and daughters in Hutchinson, Kansas after a courageous battle with Covid-19.

Pete was born in 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas to Lydia and Peter Estrada Sr. who made their home in Newton, Kansas. Pete graduated Newton High School in 1973 and enrolled at Kansas State University where he was involved with ROTC and Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. Pete graduated KSU in 1978 with a degree in Criminology and began his career as a Probation Officer in the City of Hutchinson, a post he held until retirement in 2000. In 1980 Pete married Donna Luginbill in Newton, Kansas.

A man who invested in relationships and his community, Pete was a faithful active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, serving in various roles such as Director of CYO, member of Fiesta committees, and traveling on Missions. He did adoration for 25 plus years. He also served his country as a Lieutenant in the medical branch of the Army Reserve. In addition, Pete energetically volunteered as a coach for nearly 10 years of girls slow pitch softball, highlighted with appearances in the World and State Tournaments.

While his passion centered on his faith and family, Pete had many hobbies and therefore many friends in which he enjoyed spending time with. He was an avid traveler, bowler, fast pitch player, gambler and pool player. But most of all he is remembered as the best father, uncle, and friend who took the time to play a board game, or have a conversation about his many collections. He had a natural ability to connect and lift up those around him.

Pete is survived by his wife Donna, of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter, Christy (Moline, IL); daughter, Danielle Estrada (Las Vegas, NV); daughter, Elena Hill (Derrick Las Vegas, NV); loving mother, Lydia Estrada of Newton, Kansas; sister, Patrice Olais; sister, DiAnne Decker; sister, Christina Alvarez; and six grandchildren Joseph, Tea, Alycia, Peyton, Kieleah, Amaya, and future great-grandchild Alonzo.&nbsp;&nbsp; He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that have enjoyed every minute of joy he brought to their lives.

He is proceeded in death by his son, Ramon Miguel and his father, Peter Estrada Sr.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Todd Shepherd officiating. Dr. Francis “Frank” Leo Depenbusch, MD, 83, passed away March 21, 2021, at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson. He was born in a farmhouse, outside of Zenda, Feb. 9, 1938, to Bernard Peter “Ben” Depenbusch and Pauline Ann (Rohling) Depenbusch of Zenda, Kansas.

After graduating from Zenda High School in 1956, Francis initially attended Emporia State University, and then transferred to Kansas State University, where he graduated in 1961.&nbsp;

While attending the University of Kansas Medical School, Francis married the love of his life, Celestine “Sally” Arensdorf, on Aug. 25, 1962, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Willowdale, Kansas.&nbsp;

Francis graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1965 and joined the United States Navy Submarine Service as a medical officer. He served six years, completing three tours of duty. Francis completed his military service as a Lieutenant Commander, and continued specialty training in ophthalmology at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He returned to his home state of Kansas and founded Hutchinson Eye Physicians and Surgeons, in 1972.

Francis was an active member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #612, and was a charter member and Vice-President of Membership for Serra Club of Hutchinson. He also was active in the Rotary Club, Quivira Council board member with the Boy Scouts of America, a Silver Beaver Recipient for Service, and Scoutmaster and Cubmaster for BSA. In addition, Frank served on the Trinity High School Board and Booster Club, Hutchinson Hospital Board, was a fellow at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Francis was a loving spouse, proud father and grandfather, an active hunter, traveler, photographer, scuba diver, boater, and lake-house owner at Yankee Run, Kanopolis.

Francis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally Depenbusch, Hutchinson; three children, Dennis (Darcilyn) Depenbusch, Lawrence, Michelle (Brian) Powell, Lawrence, and Dr. Michael Depenbusch, Phoenix, AZ;&nbsp; one sister, Patricia (Ted) Neises; two brothers, Harold (Barbara) Depenbusch and Richard (Marilyn) Depenbusch; and grandchildren, &nbsp;Francis Dean Depenbusch, Brooke Ann Depenbusch, George Hoag Depenbusch, and Miranda Catherine Powell.

Francis was preceded in death by: his parents, Ben and Pauline; sister, Cecelia; and grandson, Jack Powell.

Parish Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2021.&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021. Both the Parish Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson. J. Louise Bright, 74, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at her home in Hutchinson, KS. Louise was born February 28, 1947 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Plasido L. and Lucille T. (Mendoza) Delgado. 

On April 6, 1967 she married John W. Bright in Hutchinson. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, KS. A member of the Hutchinson Human Relation Commission.

She was preceded in death by her father, a brother, Manuel Delgado and two sisters, Teresa Delgado and Judith Lozoya. 

Louise is survived by her four children, John A. Bright of Hutchinson, Krista L. (David) Isaacs of Overland Park, KS, Denise R. (Jason) Hess of Nickerson, KS, and Steven R. Delgado of Hutchinson, KS; and nine brothers, Daniel Delgado, Dean (Geri) Delgado, David Delgado, Louis (April) Delgado, Robert Delgado, Michael Delgado, Christopher Delgado, Rojelio (Claudia) Delgado, and Thomas Delgado; four grandchildren, Dustin M. Bright, Trey A. Cole, Logan Beery and Raven Bright; and one great grandchild, Cosmo Beery.

Patricia J. Moore Schultz, 84, passed away March 9, 2021 at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born Dec. 16, 1936 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Amos Augustus and Cara Odena Newman Moore. 

She was a 1955 graduate of Hutchinson High School. Pat had worked for the CIA for 22 years in We’ll never know, Virginia. Moving to Hutchinson in 2000, her favorite job for 12 years was serving in several capacities at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home/Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, where she quickly became a staff favorite. Pat was a member of the National Society of Washington Family Descendants, loved to go to museums and all places historical. Over the years, Pat took great joy in her dogs, cats, and horses. She married Edward J. Schultz on September 13, 1958 in Windsor Locks, Conn. He died October 10, 2012. 

Survivors include a daughter, Janice E. (Gregg) Ringold, Hutchinson; a son, Thomas J. (Rose) Schultz, Canberra, Australia; grandchildren Jonathan (Maddy) Ringold, Hutchinson, Gennifer McClurg, Hutchinson, and Cara Schultz, Canberra, Australia; a great granddaughter, Morgan McClurg, Hutchinson; grandson-in-law, Monte McClurg, Hutchinson; and good friend and caregiver, Rosetta Ybarra, Hutchinson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment for Pat and her husband Ed will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Melvin “Mel” Dale Huxman met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on March 18, 2021 at the age of 90 in Moundridge, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 26, 1930, the youngest of Rudolph and Esther (Meyer) Huxman on the home farm place east of Moundridge.

August 10, 1951, he married his dear wife, Wanetta Holdeman, and they would have celebrated their 70th&nbsp;anniversary this year. When he arrived at Pine Village/Hospice a week and a half ago, it was said more than once, “oh yes…they are the cute little couple walking around holding hands.”&nbsp; Together and not often apart.

She survives along with their five children, Donna (Greg) Carlson, Streamwood, IL; Gary (Marci) Huxman, Moundridge; Nancy (Larry) Ediger, Newton; Rodney (Kay) Huxman, Moundridge; Karla (Robert) Wenger, Versailles, MO. Other survivors include grandchildren, Geoffrey Carlson, Vincent Carlson, Sean Carlson, Cassondra Basinger, Bryson Huxman, Tiffany Huxman, Janina Fisher, Jeremy Ediger, Kristen Bauman, Kendra Eveland, Kimbra DenHartog, Kyle Huxman, Veronica Martinez and Trevor Wenger; along with 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Ruth Schmidt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Elmer and Orlin, and grandson, Derek Wenger.

In his nearly 91 years, he lived in homes within four miles of Moundridge as a life-long farmer and loved his 35 years as an oil-well pumper before retiring. In the winters, he enjoyed ice skating. His love of music gave him opportunities to be in a men’s quartet and attend Quartet Jubilee’s, Messiah concerts in Lindsborg every year and his children’s/grandchildren’s concerts. Because of his personal relationship with Jesus that began as a teen, his volunteer involvement in the church included being the ‘first media director’ (using cassettes), a member of a variety of boards and, with his wife, as leaders of the youth group. Their gifts to missions have ministered both locally and to many around the world. One of his highlights was an Israel trip where he had the chance to “walk today where Jesus walked.” Although his education took him only to an eighth-grade graduation, he was a voracious reader. In the summer, he looked forward to the rodeo on the third week of July in Pretty Prairie.&nbsp; His greatest blessings, though, were his family and he cried tears of joy when all were together for gatherings. He also proved he was one of the best jokesters by gently guiding the grandkids around Christmas to stand under the mistletoe to give them a smack.

Friends may pay their respects to Mel from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2021 at Moundridge Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 23 at Garden Community Church, 6520 N. Phyllis Marie Johnson, 82, of Little River, died March 16, 2021, at her home. She was born May 25, 1938, in Lindsborg, to Dale and Iola (Hall) Harris.

Phyllis graduated from Marquette High School and attended Brown Mackie College in Salina. She was a quilt-master and loved sewing doll clothes. Phyllis gifted lots of homemade items to people over the years. She enjoyed dancing every Saturday night with Uvon and they enjoyed socializing with friends everywhere. Above all, Phyllis loved spending time with her family.

On September 8, 1956, she married Uvon D. Johnson, in Marquette. Together they raised three children on the family farm.

Raymond “Ray” Wesley Stuart, 90, died March 16, 2021, at his home. He was born June 3, 1930, in Hugoton, to Chester Tipton and Ollie Elizabeth (Davis) Stuart.

Ray graduated from Nowata High School, Nowata, OK. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Ray worked in sales for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring with 30 years of service. He enjoyed watching sports, but family, faith, and music were Ray’s devoted passions. Ray was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and Legacy Bible Church, Hutchinson.

On April 17, 1955, he married Catherine Elizabeth Schultz, in Lenapah, OK.&nbsp;

Ray is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Catherine of Hutchinson; children, Cheryl Mascorro (Mike) of Hutchinson, Daryl Stuart (Tonia) of Loveland, CO, Melinda Pittman, and Lisa Mahanna, both of Bryan, TX; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Richard, Chester, and James; sisters, June Kimes, Marlene Patrick, and Loree Link; and son-in-law, Mike Pittman.

Charles F. “Charlie” Gabehart, 84, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, March 18, 2021, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Binger, OK, to Fred and Ina Mae (Osborn) Gabehart.

Charlie graduated from high school in Binger, OK, &nbsp;in 1955. He retired as an electrician from KG &amp; E after 35 years of service. Charlie enjoyed golfing and fishing. He served on the Buhler City Council and the Ark Valley Electric Cooperative from 1998-2010.&nbsp;

On June 4, 1976, Charlie married Iris Elizabeth Pennock, in Buhler. She died April 20, 2009, after sharing almost 33 years of marriage.

Charlie is survived by children, Teresa Alexander of Chickasha, OK, Kathy Schroeder (Tom) of Andover, Chuck Gabehart of Hutchinson, and Darren Gabehart (Tracey) of Anadarko, OK; stepchildren, Terry Combs (Cindy), Sue Redd, all of Hutchinson, and Sandy Post of Overland Park; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elsie Hall.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Olivia Magaña, 85, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. Olivia was born July 12, 1935 in Aguililla, Michoacán, Mexico, the daughter of Eustacio and Maria (Cortez-Orosco) García. 

On July 25, 1958 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Magaña, to this union they were blessed with five children, Jorge, Alberto, Gloria, Simey and José. 

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings. Olivia is survived by her husband Benjamin Magaña of Hutchinson; five children, Jorge (Patty) Magaña of Hutchinson, Alberto (Silvia) Magaña of Hutchinson, Gloria Vera of Sacramento, CA, Simey (Merci) Magaña-García of Hutchinson, José (Nicole) García of Hutchinson; a brother, Antonio García of Livermore, CA; 19 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.

On August 12, 1953 she married Joseph G. Medrano in Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, three infant children, a sister Ramona Medina and a brother David Kennedy. 

Mary is survived by her seven children, Joseph A. Medrano of Hutchinson, John M. (Maria) Medrano of Independence, MO, Margarita (Daniel) Palacios of Hutchinson, Sallie (David) Holman of Arlington, TX, Rita S. Brenda Joyce Grim, 74, passed away March 12, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 8, 1947 to Donovan E. and Mary K. (Winhold) Fishburn.&nbsp;

Brenda was raised in Ellsworth, Kansas. She lived in McPherson, Kansas for 40 years and made her home in Hesston, Kansas in 2011, to be closer to her grandkids.

She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1965 and was a 1968 graduate of Central KS Area Vocational Technical School of Practical Nursing, where she earned her LPN degree.

Brenda was a licensed practical nurse for 42 years. She worked at Asbury Hospital at Salina, Kansas and spent 38 years working at McPherson Memorial Hospital. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Ellsworth and a longtime leader of the Girl Scouts of America. Brenda was baptized in the Methodist Faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Fuqua of Hesston; grandchildren, Kyndra (Thomas) Hecker, Aaron Fuqua, Allyssa Fuqua and Riley Fuqua, great-grandchildren William Hecker, Alaina Hecker, and one-on-the-way; sister-in-law, Jane Fishburn of Tracy, California; and two nephews, Mike Fishburn and Jay Fishburn.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jonas Edward Fishburn II.

Ervin Lee Horton, 93, passed away March 13, 2021, at his residence.&nbsp; He was born April 6, 1927, in Great Bend, to Charles Ellsworth and Hattie Ivy (Watters) Horton.

Ervin attended public schools in Great Bend and Nickerson. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947, being stationed in Germany during World War II. Ervin graduated from barber college in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 12, 1948. He owned and operated barber shops in Dodge City, Montezuma, Satanta, and Hutchinson, retiring with over 50 years of service.

Ervin loved to sing and enjoyed his time as a member of the Hutchinson Salt Minors Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On May 28, 1947, Ervin married Margaret Ellen Warn, in Ashland. They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to her death on Nov. 23, 1995. He then married Nancy Ruth Johnson Schweizer, on March 4, 1997, in Newton. They shared over 24 years of marriage.

Ervin is survived by wife, Nancy Horton of Hutchinson; daughters, Teri (Ed) Schriner, Karla (Mel) Limon, and Lu Crow; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; stepchildren,&nbsp; Jodi (Les) Coleman, Scott (Amber) Schweizer, and Holly (Scott) Lindbloom; 12 stepgrandchildren; and 5 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; brother, Charles; sister, Goldie; daughter, Rena; and 3 great-grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947, being stationed in Germany during World War II. Ervin graduated from barber college in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 12, 1948. He owned and operated barber shops in Dodge City, Montezuma, Satanta, and Hutchinson, retiring with over 50 years of service.Ervin loved to sing and enjoyed his time as a member of the Hutchinson Salt Minors Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.On May 28, 1947, Ervin married Margaret Ellen Warn, in Ashland. They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to her death on Nov. 23, 1995. He then married Nancy Ruth Johnson Schweizer, on March 4, 1997, in Newton. Ruth Irene Stull Jones, 85, formerly of Partridge, peacefully passed away March 13, 2021, at Good Shepherd Homecare &amp; Hospice, Manhattan. She was born July 1, 1935, in Partridge, to Roger Eli and Olive Grace (Black) Stull. Ruth was raised in Kansas and Maryland.&nbsp;

Ruth worked at a local theatre in Lyons. Ruth and her husband, Jim, moved to Partridge in 1964, where they opened the Partridge Café. Ruth owned and operated the café for 56 years, until she was 80 years old. Her specialties included homemade pies, hamburgers, fried chicken, and witty conversations. Ruth was recognized in the state of Kansas for outstanding cooking and many years of service to the community of Partridge. She was a long-time member of Maranatha Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.

Ruth will be remembered as a loving mother, aunt, sister, grandma, and great-grandma. She also had many friends whom she loved, and enjoyed all the customers at the café. In addition, Ruth also loved playing Pitch, Yahtzee, dominoes, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many people; however, she lived a full life.&nbsp;

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie “Jim” Clinton Jones.&nbsp; Ruth and Jim were married Dec. 22, 1954. He died April 28, 1989, after sharing 35 years of marriage. &nbsp;

Ruth is survived by her two children, son, Dr. Clinton Jones and wife Vicky of Stillwater, OK, and daughter, Janice Rogers and husband Jeff of Manhattan; granddaughters, Tagney Walters and husband Nick of Vermillion, SD, and Matley Jones, who is currently in Seattle, WA; grandsons, Dr. Adam Rogers and wife Jennifer of North Liberty, IA, Dr. Dallas Jones and wife Hannah of Aurora, CO, Matt Rogers and wife Kyla of Fort Dodge, IA, Montana Jones, and fiancé, &nbsp;Breanna Hagedorn of Lincoln; great-granddaughters, Lilly and Sage Creller, Ivy Rogers, all of North Liberty, Dawsyn Walters of Vermillion, SD, and Kerrigan Rogers of Fort Dodge;&nbsp; great-grandsons, Callum and Owen Rogers of Fort Dodge; and brother, Roger Paul Stull and wife Mary Lou of Maryland.&nbsp; Ruth is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who provided lots of loving humor and joy to her life

Carol Ann Glasgow, 78, of Hutchinson, died March 10, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 12, 1942, in Longmont, Colorado, the daughter of George L. and Verna B. (Branber) Stieber.

A Hutchinson resident since 2012, Carol was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, fishing, puzzles, games, and was a huge Jeff Gordon and Denver Broncos fan. But above all, Carol loved spending time with her family.&nbsp; She was a member of First Church of God.

On Nov. 21, 1964, Carol married Rex D. Glasgow, in Princeton, MO. He died July 13, 1984.

Carol is survived by: her children, Carla Hardman (fiancé, David Houston), Paducah, KY, Charlotte Vargas (Samuel), Uvalde, TX, George ‘Joe’ Glasgow (Geri), Jefferson, IA, Franklin Glasgow (Ellen), Indianola, IA; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Belknap (Mary), Beloit; and numerous extended family members.

Martha Wiens, 85, passed away March 10, 2021, at Legend of Hutchinson. She was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Munich, Germany, to Karl and Elizabeth (Schickhoffer) Maier.

Martha designed and handcrafted knitted clothing for Pegues and Wiley’s Department Stores, both formerly located in Hutchinson. For several years, she co-hosted a weekly German food cooking segment on KWCH during the noon news broadcast. She worked at Caldwell Wholesale Greenhouse as a Horticulture Specialist for over 15 years.&nbsp; Martha then worked as a Senior Tax Preparer at H&amp;R Block, retiring with more than 22 years of service.

She was a collector of anything associated with lady bugs. Martha enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking, and of course, eating. Her playful way of doing things, always joking around, and her unusual sense of humor made her fun to be around. Martha loved to dance and would turn Saturday morning chores into a dance party. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On Dec. 2, 1955, she married the love of her life, Wilbur ‘Wib’ Lee Wiens, in Munich, Germany. They shared over 41 years of marriage, prior to his death on March 7, 1997.

Martha is survived by daughters, Rose (Philip) Cornwell and Sharon (Tim) Surface, both of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Rachel (Kevin) Frymire of Newton, Rebecca (David) Bevilacqua of Hutchinson, and Kristi Shields of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Brittani Shields, Gage Pederson, Gunner Pederson, Colson Frymire, Seth Frymire, and Kali Frymire; siblings, Montford Maier and Lydia Kockerell; and numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Scott Errol Thomas, of Hutchinson, passed away at his home on March 15, 2021, after a valiant 16-month battle with cancer. He was born June 26, 1970, in Hutchinson, to Donald Lee and Gayle (Smith) Thomas.

Scott graduated from Buhler High School in 1988. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Social Sciences, from Kansas State University in 1995. Scott went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education from Baker University in 2005. He began teaching at Hutchinson High School in 1996 and was completing his 25th year of service at the time of his death.

Scott was united in marriage to Melissa Kay Hittle on July 20, 1996, at Grandview United Methodist Church, in Winfield. Their almost 25 years together included lots of love and laughter.

Outside of his family, Scott’s passion was sharing the stories of history to the many students who were a part of his classes at HHS over the years. In his spare time, Scott could often be found watching K-State sports, enjoying Star Wars movies, or playing disc golf with friends.

Scott is survived by: his wife, Melissa of the home; mother, Gayle Thomas of Hutchinson; brother, Cameron (Jeanne) Peirce of Hutchinson, mother-in-law, Mary Hittle of Winfield; brothers-in-law, Kerry (Carley) Hittle of Andover and Larry J. Hittle of Winfield; uncles, Allen Thomas of Council Grove and Bob (Jan) Thomas of Park City; nephew and niece, Blaise and Monica Hittle of Andover; nephews, Connor and Hayden Peirce of Hutchinson; and faithful canine companions, Abby and Dexter.

Recent obituaries

Larry C. Miller, 79, of Newton, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021. He was born Oct. 17, 1941 in Harper, Kansas, the son of Norman and Ruth (Stutzman) Miller.

He was a graduate of Attica High School and Hesston College.

Larry was a lifelong resident of Crystal Springs. He was a farmer and mechanic, working alongside his father at Miller Machine Shop, developing the same skills and abilities as his father. Larry was sensitive, intelligent, a good worker, creative and had good mechanical aptitude. They both had the ability to create, build, or modify machines to perform certain jobs/tasks better and more efficiently. He eventually took ownership of the shop and changed the name to Crystal Springs Machine Shop.

Our family is grateful for Larry’s friends and neighbors in the Crystal Springs community who looked out for him and alerted us when Larry began having difficulties with dementia.

Larry is survived by his sister, Margaret (Harold) Winsinger of Hesston; brother, Keith (Lois) Miller of Edwardsburg, Michigan; niece, Brenda (Bruce) Eitzen of Hesston; nephews, Randy (Christy) Winsinger of Dunnellon, Florida, Bradden (Kristen) Miller of Anacortes, Washington, and David (Lindsay) Miller of Granger, Indiana.
