Charlene (VanPelt) Hogan, 93, passed away June 20, 2021 at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. Charlene was born on February 5, 1928 in rural Millville, Missouri to Charlie S. and Zella B. (Thomas) VanPelt.
Charlene was a Polo, Missouri High School graduate. She married Kenneth S. “Ken” Hogan on October 16, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved from Kansas City, MO to west Los Angeles, CA in 1953. While in California, Charlene and Ken were very active in the Van Nuys Community Methodist Church youth program. They moved to Buhler in 1973. Charlene was a homemaker, and was very active in her grandchildren’s lives and also worked as a teller at Buhler State Bank for many years. She was a member of Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church.
She is survived by a daughter Michele (Louis) Martens of Buhler; grandchildren, Joey (Kurt) Laurie of Wichita, Chava McKeel of Lawrence, Alee (Tim) Phillips of Lawrence, Jordan (Nicole) Martens of West Orange, New Jersey and Scott (Rachelle) Roberts of Manhattan; great grandchildren, Jackson & Cy Laurie, Frances & June McKeel, Sam & Ike Phillips, Penny & Georgia Martens and Savannah, Cade & Easton Roberts.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, seven sisters and four brothers.
Cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.
