Mary A. Roots, 75, died Feb. 17, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medial Center.&nbsp; She was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Great Bend, to William Arnold and Marjory Alzenith (Faulkner) Glass.

Mary graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Sterling College and her Master of Arts Degree from Baker University. She taught English and home economics at Pretty Prairie High School, and English and science at Trinity Catholic High School. She ended her over 25-year teaching career as a special education teacher for USD 308. Mary was an active member of Crossroads Christian Church.

On March 18, 1967, she married Roger L. Roots, in South Hutchinson. They shared almost 54 years or marriage.

Mary is survived by husband, Roger of Hutchinson; children, Samuel Roots (Jules Pitchford) of Wichita, Matthew Roots (Tricia) of Inman, Katie Roots of New York, NY; sister, Patricia Peoples of Odenville, AL; grandchildren, Riley and Jayden Roots, and Sterling Roots; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous friends and students.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marjory Glass; in-laws, C.A. “Bill” and Mildred Roots; brothers-in-law, Frank Peoples and Frank Fee; sister-in-law, Bonnie Fee; and niece, Carolyn Fee.

Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

Sue Ellen Smith, 86, formerly of Hutchinson, died Feb. 16, 2021, in Bloomington, IL. She was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Jacksonville, TX, to James Fulton and Essie Mae (Halbert) Madden.

Sue graduated from Rusk High School, Rusk, TX in 1953, and Sam Houston University, Huntsville, TX in 1956.&nbsp; In 1997, she retired from teaching elementary school at Buhler Unified School District #313.&nbsp; Sue enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, singing, and performing, and going to dinner with the “Anchor Inn Group”. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and DOERS Sunday School Class. Sue moved to Bloomington, IL, to be closer to her family. In Bloomington, she lived in Carriage Crossing Senior Living, where she was known for her infectious smile and playful personality. The family is so appreciative for the love and care given to Sue at Carriage Crossing.

On Aug. 8, 1959, she married James Robert “Bob” Smith, in Rusk, TX. They shared almost 59 years of marriage, before his death on April 8, 2018.

Wayne Lynn King, 59, passed away Feb. 18, 2021, at his home.&nbsp; He was born Dec. 8, 1961, in Hays, to Marvin L. and Barbara R. (Bittel) King.

Wayne was a 1980 graduate of Ellis High School.&nbsp; On Aug. 12, 1995, he married the love of his life, Sharon Kirchoff, in Hutchinson. They shared over 25 years together, making memories and sharing adventures. He was a manager at Woodwork Manufacturing. Wayne was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.

He enjoyed woodworking and could build just about anything, with crosses being one of his favorite projects. Wayne enjoyed running and working out, competing in multiple races, including the Chicago Marathon. He was a family man who never missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s activities. Spending time with family was one of his favorite pastimes. Wayne was always up for any adventure or crazy idea that his family threw at him. He was a people person and never knew a stranger; once he met you, you were his friend for life. Wayne gave himself unselfishly to his family, work, church, and anyone else he could help. He enjoyed life, coaching, traveling, fishing, eating ice cream, and telling a joke.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon King of Hutchinson; children, Ashley (Scott) Briand of Ransom, Luke King of Hutchinson, and Kaleb King of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Chloe, Addison, and Evan Briand; parents, Marvin and Barbara King of Ellis; siblings, Wade (Leitha) King of Ellis, Wanda (Donnie) Younger of Ellis, and Wes (Kim) King of Andale; father-in-law, Don Kirchoff; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Larry) Claar, Karen (Mark) Percival, and Carol (Rick) Rupp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Christina “Tina” Leah McFerrin, 63 years old, of Sylvia, KS was born May 18, 1957. She left this world to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021.

She married the love of her life, Montie McFerrin, on June 28, 1986. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational Management from Sterling College in 2019, which was a lifelong dream and accomplishment. She worked in the financial aid department at Sterling College for 7.5 years. 

Tina was a founding member of the SaltCity Cowboy Church. 

She is survived by her husband, Montie McFerrin, of 34 years, her twins, Colton McFerrin and Kathryn Patee (Husband, Dustin Patee) and their three children; Malley, Welker and Bristol. She is also survived by her father, William “Bill” Mohr, mom, Sherri Mohr, and her brother, Gary Mohr (Joy Shaker), brother-in-law, Jerry McFerrin, sister-in-law, Susan McFerrin, and brother-in-law, Tim McFerrin, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Memorial arrangements are being handled by Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the SaltCity Cowboy Church, 810 N. Main, South Hutchinson. The memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021 at 2 p.m., at the SaltCity Cowboy Church.

Edna Lee Withiam, 85, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 at Schowalter Villa. She was born Jan. 17, 1936 in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of Darrel and Hazel (Groom) Wamsley.

Edna was a devoted homemaker. She was described as a really good cook and she enjoyed gardening with flowers to attract birds to their yard.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Oakley and the Royal Neighbors fraternal organization.

She was united in marriage to Stanley “Kye” Withiam on Feb. 23, 1954 in Rock, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2016.&nbsp;

Kye’s work took them to various communities where they made lasting friendships. Edna became involved in quilting groups, sharing in bible study, leading 4-H cooking classes and EHU ladies throughout these communities.

Edna is survived by her children, David (Donna) Withiam of Newton, Diana (Jim) Schmidt of Goessel, and Bill Withiam (fiancé, Daphne Bliss) of North Newton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Darrel Wamsley and Hazel Wamsley Felker; step-father, Carrol Felker; and a grandson, Nathan Fast.

Private services will be held at Valley View Cemetery, rural Roxbury.&nbsp; Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. Edna Lee Withiam | 1936 - 2021 |

Mildred Elaine Mauck Decker Applegate was born Dec. 17, 1923, the sixth child of Phillip and Bessie Holmes Mauck. She died Feb. 15, 2021, in Fort Collins, CO. Her childhood was spent in the rural central Kansas community of Lerado, and she graduated from Langdon High School in 1941.

Elaine attended Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1941-1942 and earned a teaching certificate. In 1942-1943 she taught eight grades at Prairie Hall school northwest of Pretty Prairie, Kansas. Then in 1943-1944 she taught grades 1-3 at Plevna Kansas Elementary School.

While at Fort Hays College, Elaine met Kenneth Sylvester Decker of Bison, Kansas and they were married in March 25, 1944. In the winter of 1948, Kenneth was diagnosed with leukemia and died on July 9, 1948. Elaine gave birth to their son, Kenneth Sylvester Decker, Jr. on Nov. 5, 1948.

On Sept. 14, 1949 Elaine and Harold Glenn Applegate were married at her grandfather’s home in Langdon KS. Glenn worked in the Plevna State Bank in Plevna, and so Elaine, Glenn and Kenny moved to Plevna. Their daughter Barbara Elaine was born Aug. 3, 1950 and Glenn adopted Kenny at the same time. Another son Gary Robert was born July 16, 1953. In 1957, Glenn took a job at the First State Bank in Leoti, KS, 200 miles to the west of Plevna. A third son, Randy Lee was born in Leoti on May 27, 1958.

Once Glenn retired from the bank in Jan.1984, he and Elaine became “snowbirds”, spending summers in Leoti and winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Glenn passed away in January 2005, shortly after their move from Leoti to independent living at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, KS, just a few miles from where Elaine and Glenn grew up. Elaine lived at Wesley Towers until 2016 when she moved to Fort Collins, CO to be near her daughter Barbara, son Randy, and sister Melba Treaster.

Elaine lived in independent living until March, 2020, when due to Covid-19 lockdown she moved in with Barbara. She was able to remain in Barbara’s home until her death from natural causes on Feb. 15, 2021, at age 97.

Elaine was predeceased by her husbands Kenneth Decker and Glenn Applegate, son Kenneth, her parents Phillip and Bessie Mauck, sisters Beulah, Lois, Phyllis Mae, and Marjorie, brothers Howard, Kenneth, Kenton, and Henry.

She is survived by her sister Melba Treaster of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Barbara Applegate of Fort Collins, CO, son Gary Applegate and daughter-in-law Kathy of Wichita KS, son Randy Applegate and daughter-in-law Vikki of Westminster, CO.&nbsp; She is also survived by nine grandchildren:&nbsp; Bonnie Gottschalk, Lynn Books, Janette Ashton, Tim Applegate (Erin), Judy Olguin (Donald), Morgan Eaton, Kenneth Applegate (Corey), Matthew Applegate (Aubrey), Brittany Applegate, Elizabeth Applegate (Colby); 20 great-grandchildren: Nicole, Coty, Kayla, Charles Books, Annabella and Elianna Gunn, Jaxson Gilbert, Hattie Applegate, Olin Applegate, Willow Applegate, Reece Gasparino, Donnie Olguin III, Zari Olguin, Jordan Olguin, Cataleya Olguin, Annabelle Applegate, Jason Applegate, Adalyn Applegate, Alivia Applegate, Anay Applegate, Jonah Whitehead, and Adriela Whitehead.&nbsp;

A service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St, Fort Collins, CO at 10 a.m. on Friday Feb. 19, 2021. Masks and social distancing are required. The service will also be live-streamed.

A visitation will be held at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, KS. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

&nbsp;A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Lerado Cemetery in Reno County, KS on Memorial Sunday, May 30, 2021.

 </figure>Mildred Elaine Mauck Decker Applegate was born Dec. 17, 1923, the sixth child of Phillip and Bessie Holmes Mauck. She died Feb. 15, 2021, in Fort Collins, CO. Her childhood was spent in the rural central Kansas community of Lerado, and she graduated from Langdon High School in 1941.Elaine attended Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1941-1942 and earned a teaching certificate. In 1942-1943 she taught eight grades at Prairie Hall school northwest of Pretty Prairie, Kansas. Then in 1943-1944 she taught grades 1-3 at Plevna Kansas Elementary School.While at Fort Hays College, Elaine met Kenneth Sylvester Decker of Bison, Kansas and they were married in March 25, 1944. In the winter of 1948, Kenneth was diagnosed with leukemia and died on July 9, 1948. Elaine gave birth to their son, Kenneth Sylvester Decker, Jr. on Nov. 5, 1948.On Sept. 14, 1949 Elaine and Harold Glenn Applegate were married at her grandfather’s home in Langdon KS. Glenn worked in the Plevna State Bank in Plevna, and so Elaine, Glenn and Kenny moved to Plevna. Their daughter Barbara Elaine was born Aug. 3, 1950 and Glenn adopted Kenny at the same time. Another son Gary Robert was born July 16, 1953. In 1957, Glenn took a job at the First State Bank in Leoti, KS, 200 miles to the west of Plevna. A third son, Randy Lee was born in Leoti on May 27, 1958.Once Glenn retired from the bank in Jan.1984, he and Elaine became “snowbirds”, spending summers in Leoti and winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Glenn passed away in January 2005, shortly after their move from Leoti to independent living at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, KS, just a few miles from where Elaine and Glenn grew up. Elaine lived at Wesley Towers until 2016 when she moved to Fort Collins, CO to be near her daughter Barbara, son Randy, and sister Melba Treaster.Elaine lived in independent living until March, 2020, when due to Covid-19 lockdown she moved in with Barbara. She was able to remain in Barbara’s home until her death from natural causes on Feb. 15, 2021, at age 97.Elaine was predeceased by her husbands Kenneth Decker and Glenn Applegate, son Kenneth, her parents Phillip and Bessie Mauck, sisters Beulah, Lois, Phyllis Mae, and Marjorie, brothers Howard, Kenneth, Kenton, and Henry.She is survived by her sister Melba Treaster of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Barbara Applegate of Fort Collins, CO, son Gary Applegate and daughter-in-law Kathy of Wichita KS, son Randy Applegate and daughter-in-law Vikki of Westminster, CO.&nbsp; She is also survived by nine grandchildren:&nbsp; Bonnie Gottschalk, Lynn Books, Janette Ashton, Tim Applegate (Erin), Judy Olguin (Donald), Morgan Eaton, Kenneth Applegate (Corey), Matthew Applegate (Aubrey), Brittany Applegate, Elizabeth Applegate (Colby); 20 great-grandchildren: Nicole, Coty, Kayla, Charles Books, Annabella and Elianna Gunn, Jaxson Gilbert, Hattie Applegate, Olin Applegate, Willow Applegate, Reece Gasparino, Donnie Olguin III, Zari Olguin, Jordan Olguin, Cataleya Olguin, Annabelle Applegate, Jason Applegate, Adalyn Applegate, Alivia Applegate, Anay Applegate, Jonah Whitehead, and Adriela Whitehead.&nbsp;A service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St, Fort Collins, CO at 10 a.m. on Friday Feb. 19, 2021. Masks and social distancing are required. The service will also be live-streamed.A visitation will be held at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Casey Shawn Carrier, 50, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 17, 2021, at his home. He was born Feb. 7, 1971, in Hutchinson, to Clair E. and Janet K. (Thompson) Carrier.

Casey graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1989 and received a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Kansas State University. He worked as a cook in just about every restaurant in town, as well as a carpenter and roofer. Casey loved woodworking, making rocking horses for several of his family members. He was very smart and full of care for his loved ones.

Casey is survived by: his mother, Janet Carrier; sisters, Dawn Kowalsky (Kevin), Tracy Beck (Bradley), all of Hutchinson; seven nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and nephews; and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clair.

Arlyss W. Schroeder, 75, of Inman, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 at his home. He was born on June 28, 1945 in rural Hillsboro, Kansas, the son of Arthur M. and Pearl E. (Koop) Schroeder.

He graduated from Central Christian School.

He was a farmer and stockman. Arlyss and his brothers did custom silage cutting for 15 years.

Arlyss was united in marriage to Letha Schroeder on July 18, 1970 in Kingman, Kansas.

He was a member of Buhler MB Church, where he was active as an usher for 40 plus years, and worked as the sound technician for church services. Arlyss helped with the Wednesday night meals and taught classes at the church.

Arlyss was a member of the MCC Board, where he helped with the MCC relief sale for 23 years. He was also a member of Farm Bureau since the early 1990’s, the Upper Little Arkansas River Watershed District, Gideon’s International, and was township treasurer. Arlyss held leadership roles and was involved with his children with the 4-H Club. He was involved with Mennonite Disaster Cleanup, where he would help sheetrock and rebuild pasture fences after natural disasters in multiple areas.

He is survived by his wife, Letha, of the home; daughter, Sherry Schroeder of Inman; sons, Mark (Shelly) Schroeder of Inman, Andy (Shelly) Schroeder of Andover, and Ricky (Lisa) Schroeder of Inman; six grandchildren, Brin, Ian, Kayla, Katelyn, Jonathon, and Kimberly Schroeder; brother, Richard (LuWanda) Schroeder of Moundridge; sisters, Sylvia (Ken) Walters of Greenville, Texas, and Gloria (Elden) Friesen of Dinuba, California; and sister-in-law, Elva Schroeder of Buhler.

Donnie E. Schrag, 67, entered Heaven Feb. 15, 2021, at Stafford County Hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1953, in Halstead, Kansas, the son of Marvin E. and Bertha (Gehring) Schrag.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; .

He was in the Moundridge High School class of 1971. He worked as a welder at Hesston Corporation for 42 years and was a Union member. He was a member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church and the Buhler Jaycees. &nbsp;

Donnie married Shirley J. Fahrney July 26, 1975, at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. She survives. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Other survivors include a son, Jeff (Daphnie) Schrag of Stafford; a daughter, Jean (Mike) Cumbie of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Desirae Kessler, Ruger Schrag, Jessica Schrag and Rowan Cumbie; great grandchildren, Toby, Naomi, Paislea and Riggin Kessler; a brother, Dale (Carol) Schrag of Newton; a sister, Delila (Lester) Wedel of Elbing, KS. Henry James Mandeville – Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Friend.

A lifelong resident and Letter Carrier of Hutchinson, Henry James Mandeville “Jim”, 89, changed his address on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 from his daughter Roxanne’s home in Buhler, Kansas to the Arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jim was born on Dec. 16, 1931 to Ralph and Maryetta (Landon) Mandeville in Hutchinson. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Charles R Ware, DD-865 during the Korean Conflict. He met his beautiful bride Lola Mae Blew, at the Hutchinson Post Office and they married on March 1st, 1953 in Sylvia, Kansas.

Jim began a long career as a Letter Carrier in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1953 retiring after more than 38 years of service in 1991. Jim loved to spend time with his family, church family, and friends. Jim knew no stranger and always made you feel welcome. He was actively involved in the National Association of Letter Carriers as well as, his church/es Westside Baptist and Medora Community Bible Church. Jim volunteered with the Reno County Sheriffs patrol for years as well as, enjoyed numerous duties in AWANA club at Westside.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years - Lola; daughters, Vicki (Thomas) Trezise of Hutchinson, and Roxanne Mandeville of Buhler; sons, Richard (Victoria) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ronald (Leslie) of Hutchinson, and Timothy (best friend Heidi) of Towanda/Wichita; grandchildren, Thomas, Melisa, Shannon, Natalie, Christopher, Brandi, Andrew, Sabrina, Ethan, Nicole, Jesica, Michelle, Allyson, Olivia, and Alaina; 31 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Katherine (Rod) Aps; brother, Marion Mandeville; brothers-in-law, Beryl (Twila) Blew and William Blew; and numerous granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Margaret Wagoner (Robert Levoy/Roy Ryan/Jack Wagoner); brothers, Earl, twins, Larry and Jarry, and Robert (Nancy) Mandeville; sisters-in-law, Opal (Conrad) Bunting, Gwen (Jim), Doris (Willie), Helen and Patricia Blew, Nancy (Bob) Mandeville; and brothers-in-law James Blew and Conrad Bunting.

It is Jim’s fervent prayer that YOU be introduced to God’s Grace; Amazing Grace with Salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord, so YOU too can join him in Heaven when your work on earth is through. God left His simple directions in His Holy Word.

The Problem:&nbsp;We are all sinners by nature and by choice. Romans 3:23&nbsp;–&nbsp;“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

The Predicament: We can’t get there by ourselves. Romans 4: 4-5&nbsp;–&nbsp;“Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work, but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is account for righteousness”

The Penalty: There is a consequence for our sin.&nbsp;Romans 5:12&nbsp;–&nbsp;“Therefore, just as through one man, sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because all have sinned”

The Provision:&nbsp;God demonstrated His love for us. Romans 5:8&nbsp;–&nbsp;“But God demonstrates His own love towards us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us”

The Pardon:&nbsp;We receive eternal life as a free gift! Romans 6:23&nbsp;–&nbsp;“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The Process:&nbsp;We must trust and surrender to Jesus as Lord. Romans 10: 9-10&nbsp;–&nbsp;“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”

The Promise:&nbsp;We have assurance of salvation through Jesus. Romans 10:13&nbsp;– “For everyone that calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The celebration of Jim’s life on earth will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at the Medora Community Bible Church, 8311 Medora Rd, Hutchinson, Ron Mandeville officiating. Joan I. Dunn, 92, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 13, 2021. She was born July 20, 1928, in rural Reno County, to Joseph and Nona (Gregg) Farney.

Joan worked four years at the Langdon corner drug store during high school and moved to Hutchinson immediately following graduation from Langdon High School (Salutatorian) in 1946, to begin working at the Farmer’s Cooperative Commission Co. After being a full time mother to her three children, she returned to work at FarMarCo Grain Company for over 15 years before retiring.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the DUO Sunday School Class. Joan was a 60+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; serving as Worthy Matron of the Acacia Chapter #37 in 1966, and serving as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Kansas in 1976-77.

After retirement, Joan enjoyed golfing as a member of the Carey Park Women’s Association and played in many area tournaments. She spent countless hours cultivating her flowers and yard, and watching birds. Joan was a tireless caregiver and health advocate for her husband, a brother, and a sister, in their final years.

Joan met her husband, Roy Dunn, through mutual friends at a movie theater in Turon. They married on May 15, 1949, in Hutchinson.

After retirement, Joan and Roy enjoyed traveling and spent many cold Kansas winter months in Pismo Beach, CA and Green Valley, AZ with friends from around the country.

Joan and Roy celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage, before Roy’s passing in 2016.

Survivors include: children, Randy Dunn and wife Nita of Culpeper, VA, Deborah Dunn-Smoot and husband Richard of Raleigh, NC, Brad Dunn and wife Kelly of Hutchinson; brother, Jay Farney of Stafford; grandchildren, Brandi Dunn, Joel Heiman, Justin Smoot, and Judi Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Jameson and Sophie Heiman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willard Farney and Richard Farney; and sisters, Ruby Dickerson and Ruth Farney.

Guadalupe R. “Lupe” Ochoa, 71, died Feb. 12, 2021.&nbsp; She was born Feb. 20, 1949, in Winslow, AZ, to Fito and Placida (Raya) Moncayo.

Lupe graduated from Winslow High School, Winslow, AZ, in 1967.&nbsp; She worked as a waitress for over 20 years at Anchor Inn. Lupe loved her customers, and worked until November, when she became ill.&nbsp; She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.

&nbsp;Lupe is survived by husband of 35 years, Mario Ochoa; children, Tammy Dixon (Jesus Aragon), Adriana Garcia (Douglas Mancia), Emiliano Pablo Raya, and Maria Ochoa (Alex Kayne); sisters, Rebecca Moncayo and Carol Moncayo; brothers, Henry Olague, Gilbert Moncayo, Phillip Moncayo, Richard Moncayo; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of customers and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, William Adrian Dixon; and a brother, Ernie Moncayo.

Jane graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961. She worked for Hutch Vending, Countryside Lanes, and as a farmer’s wife. Jane loved to read and bowl.

Joseph Allen (Joe) Blazina passed this life into eternal life on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 at his home in Hutchinson. Joe was born on March 18, 1951 in Lyons, Kansas to Joseph and Helen(Brozek) Blazina.

Joe married the love of his life, Dawn Ellen (Bitsy) Main on June 24, 1972 in Robertsville, Missouri and to this union one daughter Melissa was born.

Joe was a career gas and oil worker. Working in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Colorado for over 40 years; most of which was as a pipeline welder. Joe started his own business, Joes Welding and Excavation. Joe not only welded in the oil and gas industry but also for farmers and friends; of which many he did for no charge or recognition; just out of his generosity. Joe loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, boating, camping and other outdoor activities. He loved to have cookouts at his home with family and friends. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and was so looking forward to this years SuperBowl. But Joe's favorite thing to do was to spend time with Bitsy no matter what they were doing. 

Joe is survived by his wife Bitsy of the home; daughter Melissa and Husband Keith Bishop of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sisters Joan Peterman, Kathy Immesote, Judy Henderson and Janet Herman all of Lyons, Kansas; brothers in law Scott and Kathy Main of Pineville, Missouri and Kelly Main of Westminster, Colorado; sisters in law Kristie Tovar of Winfield and Marla and Mike McGovney of Cunningham, Kansas; grandson Nick Griffin of Hutchinson; numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and brother in law David Main.

Harley S. Beachy, 86, passed away on Feb. 13, 2021 at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born Dec. 25, 1934 to Samuel and Nettie (Miller) Beachy in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Harley was a dairy farmer. He was a member of the Amish Church.

On May 9, 1957 he married Susie T. Schrock. She survives of the home.&nbsp; They shared over 63 years of marriage.

Other survivors include his children, Daniel (Susan) of Hutchinson, Nettie (Jay) Yoder, Mountain View, Arkansas, David (Carolyn), of Hutchinson, Samuel (Bernita), Uniontown, Ohio, Perry (Sharon), Jerry (Miriam), Jacob (Luane), and Harley Jr. (Elizabeth) all of Hutchinson; 46 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sister, Katie Yoder; brother-in-law, Willis Miller; sisters-in-law, Katie Beachy and Wilma Beachy, all of Hutchinson.

Dale was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Unruh on November 12, 1954 in Galva. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2020.

Leon David Nikkel was born Feb. 21, 1939 to Theodore P. and Helen Sarah (Schmidt) Nikkel. He went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 11, 2021. He was 81 years old. He was a beloved husband and grandfather.

Leon graduated from Goessel High School in 1957 and went to Bethel College one year. It was during this time that he met his wife, Karen, who he later married. Leon and Karen Kay Rodgers were married on Jan. 31, 1960. He was working two jobs, one at Hesston manufacturing, as a welder, and Builder’s Concrete.

In the summer months, he would gather a crew and go custom harvesting, starting at Enid, Oklahoma, through Kansas into Sterling, Colorado and up into Gilette, Wyoming and into Wolf Point, Montana.

We lived in Newton at this time and in the fall moved to the Schmidt Farm North of his folk’s home place, after Vince was born. We moved in August of 1961.

During this time, he fed out cattle and farmed.&nbsp; In the winter, Leon drove a truck for Prouty Truck Line, hauling corn to the Port in Houston, Texas, then he would pick up cottonseed meal and deliver it to the local elevator.

Leon loved feeding out cattle and farming. Later he became involved in the Quarter Horse business for about ten years. He won many trophies with his horses, showing them at local fairs along with the Kansas State Fair. At this time he was working at the Salina Sale Barn as a ring man and worked there for many years. Also, during this time, Leon became involved in Team Roping. He would go to many team roping events at Hutchinson and other places. He won a saddle at one of the roping events which he had still enjoyed. Leon held roping events at the Hillsboro Saddle Club.&nbsp; He also held many ropings at home where many local team ropers came. He then struck out on his own and began a livestock order business and was still in business upon his death. He will be missed by many because of his thoughtful and kind ways.

He married Karen Kay Rodgers on Jan. 31, 1960. Of this union was born a son, Vincent J. (Joshua) Nikkel on April 14, 1961. He later went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 9, 2011.

Leon is survived by his wife, Karen of the home, and by his two granddaughters and grandsons, (Jandi) and Ramon Chavez and their daughter, Amelia of Valley Center, KS. and (Taylor) and Clayton Crandall of Concordia, KS.; brothers and sisters, (Joanne) Klassen, Hesston, KS., (Adella) and James Harmon, Cheney, KS., Ted Jr. and Joan Nikkel, Newton, KS. (Helene) and Loren Funk, North Newton, KS., (Nadine) and Virgil Epp, Elbing, KS., Kermit and Saundra Nikkel, Canton, KS., (Rose Mary) and Ed Templin, Rose Hill, KS., (Arylis) and Richard Goertzen, Beatrice, Nebraska.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Vincent Nikkel.

Milferd Leland Schmidt, 92, of Canton, Kansas, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at Pine Village in Moundridge. He was born Feb. 19, 1928 in Goessel, the son of Peter B. and Susie (Goertz) Schmidt.

He grew up with his three brothers, Peter Jr., Harold, and younger brother, John Henry, and two sisters, Edna and Emma on the parental farm in McPherson County.

Milferd graduated from Goessel High School with the class of 1946.

He was baptized and became a lifetime member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel.

Milferd served his 1-W service at Beatrice Hospital in Beatrice, Nebraska, and MCCVS at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine with other VSer’s. This service became a highlight of his life. After the service, Milferd returned to farming and became the second generation on the parental farm.

Milferd was united in marriage to Marilyn Flaming on May 1, 1953. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Loren (Sandy) Schmidt of Canton, their son, Dustin (Lacey) and their two children, Jackson and Elizabeth, and two daughters, Kari and Madison; daughter, Anne (Mark) Burch of Goessel, their children, Andrea Schmidt and her children, Santana and Summer, Dana (Forest) and her daughter, River, and Josh and Nate; son-in-law, Bruce Berry and children, Zachary (Kadey) and Jadeyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Berry; brothers, Pete Jr., Harold, Elmer and John Henry; and sisters, Edna Ensz and Emma Regier.

Private family services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel, with burial to take place prior to the service at the church cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to Milferd at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Goessel, from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb.16. Please wear masks and social distance. Abigail ‘Abby’ Lucille Davis, 57, passed away Feb. 10, 2021, at her home. She was born June 3, 1963, in Junction City, KS, to William Ernest and Mildred Lucille (Molar) Otto I.

Abby attended Stafford High School and was baptized in the Stafford Church of Christ. She worked for several years in the Housekeeping Department at Wesley Towers Retirement Community, Hutchinson. Abby was a homemaker who thoroughly loved her family, especially the grandchildren.

She and Ricky Davis were together for 39 years, and were married on March 31, 2000, in Hutchinson.

Abby is survived by her husband, Ricky Davis of Hutchinson; children, Amanda (Joshua Kelley) Davis of Hutchinson, Robin (Jeremy) Davis of Hutchinson, and Ricki (P.J.) Davis of Bucklin; siblings, Billy (Brenda) Otto of Hutchinson, Victor (Lora) Otto of Stafford, Valerie (Jeff) Sletto of Blue Eye, MO, James Otto of Kansas City, MO, and Andy (Kris) Otto of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Tamara, Ricky, Mary, Katelyn, Kimberly, William, Elena, Phillip, Lucille, and Adelaina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Michael Otto.

Viva Jean Steierl, 87, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 10, 2021, at her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Hutchinson, to Anthony and Viva (Howard) Urban.

Viva graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952. She had many different jobs over the years, including First National Bank and her own cleaning service. Viva had many hobbies including square dancing, reading, card games, and crafts. She volunteered at Delos V. Smith Senior Center, where she enjoyed organizing and helping with the games. Viva attended Grace Episcopal Church.

On Nov. 22, 1952, she married John Steierl in Hutchinson. They shared 62 years together before he passed away on May 29, 2015.

Viva is survived by son, Larry Steierl (Susan), McPherson; daughter, Susan Starlin, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Benjamin Starlin (Brandi), Hutchinson, Ashley Manges (James), Hutchinson, Zachary Starlin, Hutchinson; and ten siblings.
