Virgul W. Bengston, 84, of Hutchinson, KS, and formerly of rural McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021, surrounded by family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer and rancher and worked for 37 years at NCRA Refinery.
Virgul was born on January 13, 1937, in McPherson, KS, the son of John William and Hildur Caroline (Ekholm) Bengston. He graduated from Windom High School. Virgul was united in marriage to Carole V. (Bundy) McNutt on September 18, 1978, in Hutchinson.
He attended Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson and was an associate member of Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge in Hutchinson.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Carole of the home; children, Pam (Darrel) Thiessen, Connie (Scott) Achilles, and Kevin Bengston (Mary Sneath), all of Inman, KS; step-daughter, Kathryn (Pat) Kendrick of Hesston, KS; a brother, Willard (Joyce) Bengston of Windom, KS; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Chester, Evert, and Arvid Bengston; sisters, Gloria Plooster and Carolyn Hanna; daughter-in-law, Kim Bengston; and step-son, James McNutt.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 5, 2021, at Andover Cemetery (Windom, KS) with Rev. Tim Carey officiating. Family and friends are welcome to bring lawn chairs.
