Ardis Joy Old was born in Chanute Kansas on February 6, 1933 to Chester and Ethel Old who were delighted to have a red haired baby girl. In the 8th grade, her family moved to Yates Center Kansas where Ardis was a cheerleader and she taught dance and acrobatics. Her senior year she met Lloyd Barham Jr and they married October 7, 1950 in Bentonville Arkansas. After helping put Lloyd through college at K State, they moved to Newton Kansas in 1964. In addition to raising her 4 children, Ardis received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She went on to receive a Masters Degree in Special Education at WSU and she lacked 13 hours of obtaining her Doctorate from OU. During that time, she taught in the Oklahoma City School District to Learning Disabled and Emotionally Disturbed Children up the time of her retirement. Ardis was known for her sweet disposition and enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed camping with her family and visiting National Parks. She also enjoyed the many camping trips to Toronto State Park with her sister Beth and family.

She was very loved by her 4 children Kenneth Barham, Laura Harrison (Toby), Arlen Barham (Carolie) and Jani Hennes (Dave).

Ardis was preceeded in death by her parents Chester and Ethel. Her brothers Forrest and Lynndel Old. Sisters Altabelle Old and Meribeth Webber. Her Husband Lloyd Barham. Daughter Laura Harrison and Granddaughter Jennifer Barham.

She was the proud Grandma of 12 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

A visitation/celebration of life will be held in her honor Sunday August 4Th from 1-5 at Petersens Family Funeral Home. A graveside burial for will be held Monday August 5th at the Yates Center Kansas Cemetery at 1 PM.

Donations may be made in her honor to Caring Hands Human Society as she dearly loved animals.

Nola Fae Moore, 88, of Hutchinson, died July 26, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, in Wichita. She was born July 29, 1935, in Ross, IA, to LeRoy R. and Fae L. (Voorhees) Badders.

A Hutchinson resident for many years, Nola graduated from Sydney’s Hairdressing College and worked as a machinist at Eaton Corp. for 25 years. She loved hunting, fishing, camping, her Golden Sneakers group, and dancing at the Senior Center at Elmdale Park. But most of all, Nola loved spending time with her family.

In 1981, she married Kermit Moore, in California. He died in 1987.

Nola is survived by: her daughters, Patreese Kelly-Surran of Alburquerque, NM, Pam Downing (Jeff) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jordan Proffitt (Tyler) of McPherson, Carter Downing of Hutchinson, Conor Surran, Sean Surran, Deven Surran, all of Alburquerque, NM; sisters, Frances Evans of Hutchinson, Margaret Miles of Lincoln, KS, Ellen Milewski (Stanley) of Rayford, NC; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; children, Cindy Hercules, Lorraine Hercules, James Kelly; siblings, William Badders and Martha Amarose.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 29 thru August 3, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.

Burtis "Burt" Lee Oblander, Newton, ventured off to a new hunting ground July 25, 2024. Burt was born June 18, 1950 to Virgil and Jean (Peters) Oblander who both precede him.

Burt graduated from Durham High School in 1968, then attended electrical classes in Newton. He started work at Guerdon's Manufacturing, McPherson, in the 60's, then to Patridges', Newton in the 70's. In the 80's he stared work at Kenworth, Wichita, specializing in diesel mechanics, retiring in 2013. Burt was also very proud to have taught various Hunter Safety classes over the years. After retirement, he kept busy with mower/small engine repair. due to is COPD, he was admitted to Paramount community Living, Newton, where he died after a month long stay.

Burtis married Judy Arellano in 1971, they were later divorced.

He is survived by his son Chris (Melissa) Oblander of Wichita; granddaughters Dalis Jarman (Kyle) of Springdale, AR, Haley Nevin, Elizabeth, CO, Harlee Oblander and grandson Isaac Oblander, Wichita. Also missing him are his siblings, Wendy Daniel (Peter), Beckenham, England, Gene Oblander (Janine), Greeley, CO, Kim Frantz (Jonas) Tampa, KS along with nieces, Julie Oblander, April Thompson, rachel Daniel, Sarah Daniel, 2 great-nephews and 1 great-niece and his Aunt Judi Dunn. As well as his special friends, Jimmie and Janie Knight and his best friend, Cinnamon.

Burt has chosen cremation and his celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Petersen Family Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas.

Raymond G. “Ray” Sergeant, died July 25, 2024, at Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson. He was born February 2, 1936, in Los Angeles, CA, to Robert and Mary (Bentley) Sergeant.

Ray graduated from Stafford High School in 1954 and served four years in the United States Navy. On December 25, 1955, he married Patty K. Curtis, in Clayton, N.M. Ray retired from Consolidated Manufacturing after 22 years as a machinist. He was the founder of Chicken Etc. and also owned and operated Sergeants Sip and Snack. Ray and Patty were big supporters of HCC Blue Dragon Basketball. They enjoyed being host parents to many HCC basketball players during the summer for many years. In his spare time, Ray enjoyed boating, camping, and traveling.

Ray is survived by: his wife, Patty Sergeant, Hutchinson; son, James R. “Jim” (Liz) Sergeant, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Sandi (Gary) Bishop, Hutchinson, Chris (Michelle) Sergeant, Grove, OK, and Shawn (Tisha) Mears, Hutchinson; 10 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca Elam; granddaughter, Sabrina Martin; and brother, Robert Sergeant.

S. Gayle (Smith) Thomas age 80, died July 25, 2024, at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born February 16, 1944, in Emporia, Kansas, to Charles Kenneth (C.K.) and Selma Beth (Kassens) Smith.&nbsp;

Gayle graduated from Ottawa High School in 1962 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.S.E.) from Kansas State Teachers College (KSTC), now Emporia State University, in 1966. She made a career in banking and retired in 1999 from Bank of America, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Gayle met her husband, Don, in their Freshman year at KSTC in 1962. They were married August 29, 1965 and shared almost 56 years of marriage before his death in 2021. &nbsp;Both Don and Gayle were members of Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Gayle and Don delighted in their son, Scott, who was born in 1970.

Gayle loved piano music and playing her piano, especially gospel and classical music. She enjoyed reading and taking care of her family. Gayle and Don had fun traveling together and riding in the 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible that Don restored.

Gayle is survived by “son” Cameron and “daughter” Jeanne Peirce; “grandsons” Connor Peirce (Courtney) and Hayden Peirce; nephew Dwight Smith; niece Lori Magaña; granddaughter Maya, as well as her Highland Drive friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dennis, husband Don and son Scott.

Vicki Jean Hiebert, 72, passed away July 21, 2024, at Via Christi St Francis in Wichita, Kansas. Vicki was born January 14, 1952, in Lamar, Colorado, to Calvin and Dorothy (Dody) Kelley. She grew up in Hillsboro, Kansas, and graduated from Hillsboro High School and Sidney’s School of Cosmetology.

She was united in marriage to Loren Hiebert in February of 1981 at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro where the couple established their homestead outside of town. She was a hairdresser at NuCharm Salon and co-owner of House of Hair. She worked at Stroud Insurance for a time and served in a variety of roles on the Marion County and McPherson County Sherrif’s departments for manyl years. Loren and Vicki ran a Cottonwood Outfitters for nearly 20 years at their home.

Her hobbies included gardening, tending to her animals on the farm, reading, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Calvin Kelley; her mother, Dorothy (Dody) Yost; stepfathers, Orville Schmidt and Martin Yost; and her sister, Sandy Friesen. Vicki is survived by her sisters Sheryl Wright, Hillsboro; Cindy (David) Schick, Bunker Hill, Illinois; Kimberlee (Rich) Carlson, Galva, Kansas; brother-in-law, Steve Friesen, Lehigh, Kansas; sister-in-law Shirley Reusser, Hillsboro; along with many nephews and nieces and their families.

Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3rd at the American Legion Ball Room, Hillsboro KS.

Vicki Jean Hiebert |1952-2024|

Mary Louise Parker, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Lindsborg, KS, on July 20, 2024. Mary was born on April 30, 1943, to Emmons and Ruby Kneemueller in St Charles, MO. The middle child, Mary enjoyed growing up with her older brother Robert and her younger sister Debbie. Her childhood years were spent at the family’s home in St Ann, MO, and on the Kneemueller family farm in New Melle, MO.

Mary graduated from Pattonville High School in St Ann, MO, in 1961 and graduated from Drury College in Springfield, MO, in 1965. She received an elementary education degree from Drury, as well as receiving department distinctions in education and in Spanish. This is also where, in a Spanish class, she met Jim Parker, who was to become her husband of 58 years.

Following graduation, Mary accepted her first teaching position in the Ferguson-Florissant School District where she taught 4th grade for three years. Mary also taught in the Columbia, MO school district for two years before she and Jim moved to the small Kansas community of Lindsborg, which was to become their home for the remainder of her life. Mary worked at Bethany College part-time as the learning lab coordinator for several years while she raised her three daughters, returning to an elementary school teaching position in 1981. Mary taught reading part time for several years before moving to a classroom teaching position in 1989. Mary was a 1st grade classroom teacher at Soderstrom Elementary for 14 years. Although Mary officially retired in 2003, her retirement was short-lived. She truly loved and missed teaching, and she quickly returned to work, spending 10 years as a part-time reading teacher at Marquette Elementary School. When this school closed, Mary returned to Soderstrom and continued as a part-time reading teacher until receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2016. The lives of so many students were enriched by their experiences with Mrs. Mary Parker as their teacher, and Mary’s passion for learning and reading is carried on through her three daughters, all of whom work in public service to readers and learners.

In addition to her devotion to generations of learners, the other light of Mary’s life was her family. She is survived by her loving husband Jim; her three daughters, Erin Saylor, Kendra Parker, and Holly Myers; her three sons-in-law, Gerard Saylor, Dan Ball, and Justin Myers, all of whom she adored; and her most cherished family members of all, her four grandchildren: Quentin Saylor, Ian Saylor, Jolie Myers and Logan Myers. Mary was so proud of the families her daughters built and was blessed to spend time with all of them in the week before her passing. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Mary also leaves behind her German “son” Martin, her sister Debbie, and many other family and friends whom she loved dearly.

When not in the classroom or spending time with her family, Mary loved to read, do her daily crossword puzzles, have morning coffee downtown with friends, cheer on the KU Jayhawks, travel, perform community service by helping at her church and serving on the local library board, and spend time cooking for and entertaining the many friends who became family in Lindsborg. Mary’s generosity and joy for life were seen nowhere more clearly than in the gatherings she hosted. Holidays, basketball games, weekends–really any day was a good day to gather at the Parker family home for food and fellowship. So many were welcome at the Parker table over the years, and so many will miss gathering there with Mary.

 </figure>Mary Louise Parker, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Lindsborg, KS, on July 20, 2024. Mary was born on April 30, 1943, to Emmons and Ruby Kneemueller in St Charles, MO. The middle child, Mary enjoyed growing up with her older brother Robert and her younger sister Debbie. Her childhood years were spent at the family’s home in St Ann, MO, and on the Kneemueller family farm in New Melle, MO.Mary graduated from Pattonville High School in St Ann, MO, in 1961 and graduated from Drury College in Springfield, MO, in 1965. She received an elementary education degree from Drury, as well as receiving department distinctions in education and in Spanish. This is also where, in a Spanish class, she met Jim Parker, who was to become her husband of 58 years.Following graduation, Mary accepted her first teaching position in the Ferguson-Florissant School District where she taught 4th grade for three years. Mary also taught in the Columbia, MO school district for two years before she and Jim moved to the small Kansas community of Lindsborg, which was to become their home for the remainder of her life. Mary worked at Bethany College part-time as the learning lab coordinator for several years while she raised her three daughters, returning to an elementary school teaching position in 1981. Mary taught reading part time for several years before moving to a classroom teaching position in 1989. Mary was a 1st grade classroom teacher at Soderstrom Elementary for 14 years. Although Mary officially retired in 2003, her retirement was short-lived. She truly loved and missed teaching, and she quickly returned to work, spending 10 years as a part-time reading teacher at Marquette Elementary School. When this school closed, Mary returned to Soderstrom and continued as a part-time reading teacher until receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2016. The lives of so many students were enriched by their experiences with Mrs. Mary Parker as their teacher, and Mary’s passion for learning and reading is carried on through her three daughters, all of whom work in public service to readers and learners.In addition to her devotion to generations of learners, the other light of Mary’s life was her family. She is survived by her loving husband Jim; her three daughters, Erin Saylor, Kendra Parker, and Holly Myers; her three sons-in-law, Gerard Saylor, Dan Ball, and Justin Myers, all of whom she adored; and her most cherished family members of all, her four grandchildren: Quentin Saylor, Ian Saylor, Jolie Myers and Logan Myers. Mary was so proud of the families her daughters built and was blessed to spend time with all of them in the week before her passing. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Mary also leaves behind her German “son” Martin, her sister Debbie, and many other family and friends whom she loved dearly.When not in the classroom or spending time with her family, Mary loved to read, do her daily crossword puzzles, have morning coffee downtown with friends, cheer on the KU Jayhawks, travel, perform community service by helping at her church and serving on the local library board, and spend time cooking for and entertaining the many friends who became family in Lindsborg. Mary’s generosity and joy for life were seen nowhere more clearly than in the gatherings she hosted. Holidays, basketball games, weekends–really any day was a good day to gather at the Parker family home for food and fellowship. Gloria Ann Crossman was born August 5, 1937 to Arthur Hugo and Anna Elizabeth (Perry) Raberding. She had two older sisters Myrtle (deceased) and Eileen. She graduated from Anthony High School in 1955.

On February 18, 1956 she married the love of her life, Donald Eugene Crossman. Together, they raised two daughters and two sons, and laid to rest a sweet baby boy. She held it down at home during Don's two tours in Vietnam. They were married 42 years when Don lost his battle with cancer in 1998.

The last few years have been the hardest as her health declined. She fought and beat breast cancer, she came back a couple of times when we thought she was leaving us. But her spark was tenacious. She was a fighter. She was the ribbon that tied the family together. She was loved by all who knew her.

She fell ill last week and was admitted to the hospital. On Sunday, the family was called in to discuss the options that lay ahead. Keeping with her wishes, it was decided to place her in the comforting hand of Harry Hynes Hospice and their wonderful &amp; caring nurses. She went to her forever home with Jesus at 3:35 am on&nbsp;Monday, July 22, 2024.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Don, son Donald Jr., and sister Myrtle Anderson.

She is survived by her 4 children, Donna Perron (David) of Gainesville, GA, Teresa Ranney (Tim) of Valley Center, KS, Paul Crossman (Cheryl) of Haysville, KS and Douglas (Gina) of Bentley, KS; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, sister Eileen Hutchins of Missoula, MT; nieces and nephews too numerous to list.

Celebration of her life will be held 12 to 4 on Saturday, July 27 at Crossroads Community Church, Halstead, Kansas.

William (Bill) Richter, of Wichita, Kansas passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024 in Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill was born June 10, 1943 in Winthrop, Massachusetts, to his parents Carlton and Gertrude (Duval) Richter.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill married Hazel Tivis Cole on November in Clovis, New Mexico, she survives.

He was a graduate of Winthrop High School. In 1965 he joined the Navy and was discharged in 1971. He&nbsp;had many careers in his life. Bill was an amazing Boy Scout leader for 10 years. He spent 8 years as a&nbsp;Make A Wish Granter for sick children. He was heavily involved with KansasHonor Flight for Veterans. He&nbsp;oversaw the collection boxes for Harvey County. He enjoyed working with the youth groups of various&nbsp;churches he attended. One of his favorite pastimes was meeting with his favorite men’s groups to have&nbsp;coffee in Park City and Newton. Bill loved classic cars, attending car shows and raising money for Kansas&nbsp;Honor Flight.

Surviving Bill is his wife Hazel Richter of Wichita, KS. His children Jennifer(Tracy)Kimberly, Allison (Marc)&nbsp;Awtrey, William Richter, Donald (Brande) Richter &amp; Irene Richter. Grandchildren Sashia (Mark) Gallegos,&nbsp;Caleb (Chelsey) Kimberly, Delaney Kimberly &amp; Emelia Richter. Great grandchildren, Anae, Braxton, Kaydin,&nbsp;Sadie, Leila, Lawson, Beau. Niece Karen Martin.&nbsp;He was proceeded in death by his parents, and sister Jeanne Hall.

A celebration of Life will be at Life Point Church 400 Abilene, Valley, Center, KS 67147, in the North&nbsp;Sanctuary on Friday July 26, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the celebration there will be a VFW Honor Line at&nbsp;2:30 p.m.

Roger N. Stucky, 71, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Ascension via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born on March 5, 1953 in Moundridge, Kansas, to Phil and Laura (Stucky) Stucky.

He was a standout athlete at Moundridge High School in the early 70’s, and later played football at K-State as a Defensive Lineman.

He worked as a teacher and coach at Stockton and Inman schools

Roger is survived by his son, Cody (Casey) Stucky of Wichita, and their five children; brother, Rick (Amy) Stucky of Moundridge; and sisters, Reatha Stucky of Wichita and Rozanne (Dennis) Worden of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ron Stucky.

He was born in Dumas,TX., to Wayne and Eunice Dickerson Carrell.  Bobby was a resident of Texas, Washington and Kansas.  He attended school in Dumas, TX and Wichita, KS.  Bobby was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was all about his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, more the merrier.  Bobby had special moments with all of them.  He loved to fish and hunt. Debbie worked in retail and home care. She loved &nbsp;her family and life! She loved to travel. Her favorite vacation spot was Thailand.

She was the proud mother of Alesha Smith and Patrick Foster.

Debbie is survived by: her children; sisters- Ellen Blackshire, Texas G Smith, Christine Fuller, Helen D Crudup, Maxine Mills; brothers- Donald Foster, Ronald Foster, Tracey Foster; nine grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. &nbsp;She will be missed by many.

Carol was a retired junior high mathematics teacher.

Sandra (Sandy) Leeann DeFever, 66, passed away in Wichita Kansas on July 17, 2024.&nbsp;

Sandy was born in Wichita Kansas at Wesley Medical Center to James N. (Jim) Clark and Beverly Clark-Payton. She was the second of four kids born. She loved her parents, two brothers Gregory (Greg) Clark and Vincent (Scott) Clark and her sister Susan Edwards-Clark very much.&nbsp;

Sandy held a cosmetology license and was a great stylist and makeup artist at certain times in her life but she really enjoyed being at home keeping a spotless house and making a five star meal every night for her family and children.&nbsp;

Sandy had a great sense for home decorating. &nbsp;Her kids would joke that they had rooms in the house that they couldn’t even walk through. She could really make a home look great. She was also a great artist. She could redo old furniture and make it the best piece in the house. She also enjoyed painting ceramics and wall art.&nbsp;

She cut all her kids hair and a lot of family members hair. She was great at it and enjoyed making all of us look better. It was always a surprise how your hair would come out. She would ask her kids “how do you want it cut” &nbsp;sometimes you would get what you wanted and sometimes she would cut it how she wanted to. Either way it was a good cut. Her son remembers the good old days of the mullet hairstyle “up over the ears mom, don’t touch the back”.

She had a great sense of style. She could wear a thousand dollar dress and make it look good but her talent was making a five dollar dress look like a thousand dollar dress. She could do that effortlessly, she was a very beautiful lady.&nbsp;

She also loved music. All kinds. She would play music on 11 all day cleaning up the house and picking up after her kids. She could hear a song and tell you the year it came out. She had a huge music collection. She could listen to a different song, one after another for days. She was also known to listen to the same song over and over for days. She really enjoyed music.

She was the type to never meet a stranger, most times she enjoyed it, sometimes not. Family, friends, or strangers could always talk to her. She always would have good advice or an encouraging word to give to help us feel better. She loved her whole family very much. We will all miss her very much.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Landon DeFever.&nbsp;

Jonas M Bontrager, age 74, of Hutchinson, peacefully entered God's presence on Tuesday morning, July 23, 2024. Jonas was born in Goshen, Indiana on October 7, 1949, to Melvin and Rebecca (Nisly) Bontrager. Jonas was the second of five children.

Jonas was married to the late Wilma Yoder on December 19, 1970. They had three children, Melody (Carl) Erickson of Buhler, Valerie (Gary) Tomes of Wichita and Clint (Grace) Bontrager of Hutchinson; and eight grandchildren.

On October 22, 2016 Jonas married Regina Beiler of Goshen, Indiana. Regina is the mother of Monica (Marlowe) Yoder of Goshen, Indiana, Roger (Sarah) Beiler of Middlebury, Indiana, Rachel (Andrew) Dustman of Craigville, Indiana, Jeffrey Beiler of Goshen, Indiana and Douglas (Monica) Beiler of Stow, Ohio; and fifteen grandchildren.&nbsp;

Jonas was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and brother, Glen. He is survived by siblings Edward, Mahlon and Amanda.

Jonas was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and serving his community. He also was very skilled at repairing small bailers. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jonas served as a minister at Plainview Mennonite Church and was passionate about leading and teaching small groups. One of his greatest joys was sharing his faith, especially with his grandchildren. His greatest and last wish was for all of his family to meet him in heaven.

Jonas's legacy of love, kindness, and servant hood will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew him. His family finds solace in the countless memories he leaves behind.

Friends are invited to visit the family and share memories and condolences on Friday, July 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Plainview Mennonite Church, 5610 W. Trail West Road, Hutchinson, KS 67501. The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27 at Plainview Mennonite Church with a private family burial.&nbsp;

Dana Lee Rogers, 73, of Galva, KS, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Angel Arms in McPherson, KS.

Dana was born in McPherson on July 16, 1951, the daughter of Daniel and Nona (Grant) Rivas.

Dana attended Washington Grade School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1969. She then attended Hutchinson Junior College.

She was a member of Galva Community Church.

Through the years Dana worked as a teacher's aide and school secretary for Canton Galva Elementary and Middle School for 34 years until she retired in 2017.

Dana was Saddle Club Queen and enjoyed being a 4 -H leader, china painter, worked with stained glass, leather work and all her crafts. She loved working in her flower garden, loved her animals, enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids activities and her son and grandson race cars. She also enjoyed doing community volunteer work and being a church secretary. She was known as the town brownie maker, and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

Dana Rivas was united in marriage to Larry Rogers on January 16, 1971. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson, prior to moving to Galva. The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons, Rick and Steven.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; her mother, Nona Rivas of Galva; sons, Rick Rogers of Hutchinson and Steven Rogers of Alva, OK; grandchildren, Austin Rogers and Nathen Rogers; sister, Dawn Thiessen and Mike Gould of Galva; sisters-in-law, Mary Williams and Debbie Rogers, both of Little River, KS; other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Dana was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Rivas.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel in McPherson, KS.

Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Galva Community Church in Galva, KS with Tony Wedel officiating. Burial to follow in Empire Cemetery, Galva.

Veda Annette Sutphin, 73, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. She was born June 9, 1951 in Wyoming, the daughter of Ralph and Carol (Peebus) Higginbotham Sr.

Veda was a member of Hutch Rec where she went 3 days a week to visit friends. Even though Veda didn’t have much, she was always very generous and provided for others. She was an amazing crafter. She enjoyed crocheting and doing plastic canvas needle point.

Veda is preceded by her parents and sister, Julia Long.

She is survived by her children, Dorothy Crouse, Robert Crouse, Fredrick Crouse and Jannette Thoman; grandchildren, Chris (Ashley) Thoman, Destiny (Megan) Petz and Eric Petz; five brothers and three sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel &amp; Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold C. Thiessen, 94, of Inman, Kansas, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born on October 11, 1929 in Hutchinson, to Cornelius H. and Elizabeth (Schierling) Thiessen.

He graduated from Inman High School with the class of 1948. Harold was a crop and livestock farmer and a lifelong resident in the Inman community.

He was united in marriage to Arlene Algrim on October 18, 1959 in Hutchinson. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2019. Together they cared for their daughter, Carol, in their home until 2005, when she moved to an Interfaith Housing group home.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Beth Jones of Hutchinson, Ellen (Lyndon) Dick of Munich, North Dakota, and Carol Thiessen of Hutchinson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Rosalie (Leland) Flickinger of Hesston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two sisters, Evelyn Ens and Lovella Thiessen.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2024 at Zoar Cemetery with memorial services to follow at 11 a.m., at Zoar Mennonite Brethren Church, Inman. Vera Jean Shaw, 87, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Valley Center, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at The Cedars, McPherson.

Jean was born on November 2, 1936, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Herman B. and Adella V. Goering.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School.&nbsp; Jean married Leslie E. Johnson and later was united in marriage to Granville Elmo “G.E.” Shaw on September 8, 1967.&nbsp; They were married for 50 years prior to his passing on November 15, 2017.&nbsp;

She was a civilian employee of the United States Army and retired from Bombardier where she was a secretary.&nbsp; Jean was a member of Pleasant Valley Church in Sedgwick.

Survivors include: eight sons, Ronald Shaw (Ann) of Tennessee, Jimmy “Darrell” Shaw (Rhonda) of Tennessee, Robert Shaw of Tennessee, David Shaw of Tennessee, Dennis Shaw (Nanci) of McPherson, KS, Douglas Shaw (Penny) of Florida, Donald Shaw (Phyllis) of Wichita, KS, and Michael Shaw (Anne) of Fort Leavenworth, KS; &nbsp;brothers, J.B. Goering (Brenda) of Rome, GA, Jake Goering (Sharyl) of Overland Park, KS, and Lowell Goering of Hutchinson, KS; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Gordon Goering, niece, Tana Goering Morse, and nephew, Benjamin Goering.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 26, 2024, at Pleasant Valley Church, 12002 W. 109th&nbsp;St. North, Sedgwick, KS 67135.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at the church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.&nbsp;

On Saturday, July 20th, 2024, Kristin (Adams) Kliewer, loving wife and mother of four, passed away at the age of 54, following a brief but valiant fight with Stage IV cancer, surrounded by her family at home.

An avid reader and talented musician, Kristin was a born teacher, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education/Elementary Music from Tabor College. Kristin was well known and loved in the music community in the mid-Kansas area, and taught over 700 students during her career. Kristin was active in her church over the years and had many beloved friendships. She was best known for her quick-witted humor, her kind spirit, love for her family and community, and contributions to the arts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Adams, her grandparents, Johnny and Marguerite Fink, and her father-in-law, Jonah Kliewer.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, David Kliewer, her daughters, Valerie Snyder (Nathan), Paige Kliewer-McClellan, Elise Czarnowsky (Christian), and Emma Kliewer, her mother and step-father, Virginia and Kermit Iserhardt, her brother Jonathan Adams (Dawny), step-siblings Beth Lord and Chris Iserhardt, her mother-in-law Elinor Kliewer, and her grandchildren, Rain and Ember Czarnowsky.

Her celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 at 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church in Newton, KS.

Shana LaDawn Garcia, 44, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, surrounded by family at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.&nbsp;

Shana was born on May 5, 1980, in Cañon City, CO, the loving daughter of Michael Eugene and Tracy Ellen (Parsell) Miller. She graduated from Sterling High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society.&nbsp; She continued her education and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resources at DeVry Institute.&nbsp; On August 30, 2017, Shana was united in marriage to Gerald Eusevio Garcia in Lindsborg, KS.

She worked at Pfizer in McPherson for 20 plus years, most recently as a Quality Manager.

Shana was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and American Legion Riders.
