Rosemary “Rosie” Sandoval, 85, died July 21, 2024, in Baker, FL. She was born June 13, 1939, in Hutchinson, to John “Johnny” and Helen (Cordova) Garcia.&nbsp;

Rosie graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1957, and Salt City Business College. She worked as legal secretary for Branine-Chalfant and Hill. Rosie was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. She enjoyed shopping with friends, going to casinos, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and spending time with her family.

On January 20, 1962, she married Arturo Sandoval Jr. They shared over 55 years of marriage, prior to his death on March 12, 2017.

Rosie is survived by: sons, Rick (Charolette) Sandoval of Baker, FL, David (Michelle) Sandoval of Hutchinson, Mark (Val) Sandoval of Wichita; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Carol (John) Perez, John (Mary) Garcia, Christina Walenhaupt and Betty Iverson, all of Hutchinson, and Daryl Bentson of Omaha, NE.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; grandsons, Rion Sandoval and Isaac Sandoval.

Robert Wesley “Bob” Smith, 77, of Hutchinson, died July 21, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born August 19, 1946, in Hutchinson, to Oliver A. and Ocie Z. (Latham) Smith.

Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army and Kansas Army National Guard from 1965-1972. Bob worked in the shipping department at Doskocil/Tyson Foods for over 38 years until he retired. He was a family man first and loved spending time with his grandchildren, and grand-dogs. Bob also loved to fish and travel, taking many mini-vacations with his family over the years. He also loved auto racing and helped work on cars and traveled with the team to various tracks in the area for over 30 years. Bob was a God-fearing man and member of New Life Church of the Nazarene.

On January 20, 1967, he married Connie Jo Conrad, in Hutchinson. They shared over 57 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: his son, Jeffrey Smith (Christi); grandson, Jerry Smith (Lexi); great-grandchildren, Zayla, Khortni, Wyatt, all of Hutchinson; siblings, Frank Smith (Brenda) of Tyler, TX, Karl Smith of Hutchinson, Georgia Walden of Winfield, Rick Smith (Arlene) of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Karen Smith of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; nephews, Kenny Poulton and Wayne Walden.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson. Military honors will be conducted by Kansas National Guard Honor Team.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Leona Goering, 84, of Moundridge, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 20th, 2024 at Pine Village. She was born October 22, 1939 in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Henry R. Neufeld and Anna (Hiebert) Neufeld.

Leona was a life-long member of Eden Mennonite Church, and was a homemaker and rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.

She was united in marriage to Leland R. Goering on November 1, 1957, in Moundridge, in a double-ring ceremony with her older sister Edith (Neufeld) Flickinger and husband Floyd. Leland and Leona celebrated 63 years together until his passing in 2021.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Leland R. Goering; parents, Henry and Anna Neufeld; brothers, Rudolph Neufeld, Alvin Neufeld, and Menno Neufeld; sisters, Clara (Alfred) Voth, Viola (Harold) Trost, and Edith (Floyd) Flickinger.

Leona is survived by her son, Richard Goering, and wife Amy, Moundridge; and granddaughters DeAnna Goering, Pittsburg, KS, and Kimberly Goering, Albuquerque, NM.

Family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m, at Moundridge Funeral Home, Moundridge, KS. Leona Goering |1939-2024|

My husband and our father, Larry Lynn Smith, was born September 29, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas. Within several months he was welcomed into the home of Lloyd and Amanda (Johnson) Smith. He peacefully departed this life surrounded by his family on July 20, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, after a short health battle at the age of eighty years.

Larry's early childhood days were spent at Halstead, Kansas. In 1954, the family moved to a farm near Burns, Kansas. His lower grade school years were at Enterprise School in Burrton, Kansas. The later school years were at a local school in DeGraff, Kansas.

In his teen years, Larry answered God's call and was baptized in the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on January 18, 1959, by Minister Alvin Koehn. Life was real and had it's challenges, but Dad always enjoyed the fellowship of the church and brotherhood. By God's grace, he left us with an assurance of his salvation and asked us to meet him in Heaven. We thank God for granting our prayers for his peacefulcrossing of the Jordan River.

Larry found his life's companion in me, Linda Irene Wedel, daughter of Alvin and Amanda Wedel. We were married October 28, 1962, and shared life's joys and challenges for sixty-one years. Starting life together, we lived in a small house on the yard of his parents. After a move to Moundridge, Kansas, our first child, Nolan Larry, joined us. In a few years, we moved back to the Burns area. A daughter, Janet Christine, and another son, Mark Lloyd, were born to us and completed our family.

Dad had several occupations in his life. Farming was always interesting to him, and he enjoyed watching the crops grow. He liked welding and shop work. His modifications to many items made them more convenient and useful; these are memories we will continue to find as we move on with life. Driving truck for several different businesses opened a new avenue of cultivating friendships. Working the night shift as a maintenance man at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital was a job he found great satisfaction in for sixteen years. He loved people and never tired of story telling! We remember Dad as a man who liked to tinker in his workshop, fixing things for the joy of seeing them work again. Going to garage sales was something he enjoyed, and we have and use items we have received from him. Animals were always present in Dad's life, and it didn't matter what kind - horses, dogs, cats, birds and other animals were looked after with tender loving care. Dad loved the grandchildren and delighted in making them happy. They all remember the little treasures Grandpa gave them.

Larry us survived by his wife, Linda, of Burns, Kansas; Nolan Smith and wife, Jana of Burns, Kansas; Janet and husband Marlin Nickel of Sunray, Texas; and Mark (Bob) Smith and wife, Holly of Texline, Texas. Thirteen treasured grandchildren and three treasured great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, on brother, Kenneth, and two infant granddaughters.

John B. Shaw, 99, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at his home in rural McPherson.&nbsp; He owned and operated Shaw Tree Service.

John was born December 27, 1924, in Mills, NE, the son of Orville Leroy and Ruby Ann (Rose) Shaw.&nbsp; He graduated from Central College.&nbsp; On June 2, 1949, John was united in marriage to Eunice Lucille Adams in Colorado Springs, CO.&nbsp; This union was blessed with six children, Robert, Timothy, LaVonda, Karolyn, Rick, and Lisa.

He was a longtime member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church.&nbsp; John served in the United States Army during World War II in the Japanese Occupation Forces.&nbsp;

Survivors include six children, Robert (Rosemarie) Shaw of Eugene, OR, Timothy (Judy) Shaw of McPherson, KS, LaVonda (Mike) Hinrichsen of Colorado Springs, CO, Karolyn (Jeff) Johnson of McPherson, KS, Rick (Julie) Shaw of Waco, TX, and Lisa (Matt) Hampton of Goddard, KS; sister-in-law, Evelyn Shaw of Greenville, IL; 30 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Marian Gowan, James Shaw, Paul Shaw, Ruth Kenyon, and Richard Shaw.

Laura G. Hash, 89, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, in Hutchinson, KS. Laura was born on September 9, 1934, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Dale and Bernice (Hines) McCoy.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School, Class of 1952. She also graduated from Hutchinson Junior College and Wichita Tech School. On August 30, 1953, Laura married Harold Hash in Roswell, NM. He died on February 4, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold, and brother, Gary McCoy.

Laura is survived by daughter, Brenda (Donald) Hauschild of Park City, IL; son, Randal (Janeen Basye) Hash of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Martin McCoy of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Sandra Enslinger of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Valerie (Eric) Bean, Chad (Kim) Hauschild, Jenifer (Matt Monk) Blythe all from Illinois, Brandi Henderson of Lincoln, NE, and Michelle (Tim Traylor) Henderson of Hutchinson; great grandchildren, Jonathan (Sarah) Williams, Abigail Hauschild, Justus Henderson, Destiny Burns, Aryonna Burns, Felicity Henderson, Daxton and Easton Traylor; great- great grandchildren, Lochlan, Bellamy and Jolene; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold Dean Hood, 75, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. 

He was born in Joplin, Missouri to Roy Victor Hood and Bonnie (Gurley) Hood. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran.&nbsp; He worked in Tool &amp; Dye for Learjet where he retired.&nbsp;&nbsp;Harold enjoyed motorcycles, being a part of racing at 81 speedway and encouraging others who loved it too.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ashley R. Hauschild, 36, of Hutchinson died July 17, 2024, at her residence. She was born October 25, 1987, in El Dorado, to Kenneth Jackson and Shannon Hauschild.&nbsp;

Ashley graduated from Hutchinson High School. She worked in various restaurants and was an excellent waitress. Ashley was a dedicated and loving mother.

Paul Wilson Dillon, 97, passed away at home in the early afternoon of July 18, 2024, surrounded by the boundless love of family and caregivers. Earlier that morning, he picked with assistance a bouquet of brightly-colored zinnias to give family later in the day—flowers he and his recently deceased wife Ruth grew and joyfully gifted for years. Kindnesses such as this, enabled by a bountiful home, a knack for growth, and an attentive nature, characterize Paul’s life.&nbsp;

Born on August 4, 1926 to parents Clyde and Flora (Jones) Dillon, Paul lived in Hutchinson, Kansas for all but five years of his life. Service in the Navy during WWII and a college degree in 1950 from the University of Kansas where he was a Phi Kappa Psi fraternity leader comprised his years away. After meeting Ruth (Muirhead) on a blind date arranged by a childhood friend, Paul fell in love quickly and married Ruth at First Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 19, 1949. The two shared a long and fortunate life filled with respect, good humor, world-wide adventure, family traditions, and the best of friends.&nbsp;

Paul lived in five Hutchinson homes, the first on the corner of 15th and Main, near his grandmother’s and a block from Dillons grocery store #8, and the last two in a neighborhood selected to reside near family and friends. Paul and Ruth cherished their last home, on Kisiwa Parkway, for 53 years.&nbsp;

In younger years, Paul ran track, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and enjoyed family rock-hunting and camping trips. He assisted his father and Uncle Ray, along with cousins Ace and Dick, in nearly every aspect of Dillons grocery stores. When Paul was 15, his father died tragically, and invaluable support came, as it did throughout his life, from his mother, sister Betsy, Uncle Ray and Aunt Stella, cousins Ace and Dick, Hutchinson’s First Presbyterian Church, the extended Dillons community, and Boy Scout Troop #1 (Troop #301).&nbsp;

Family business roots—a successful Hutchinson-area brickmaking business led by his maternal grandmother Lura Chase Jones and the Dillons grocery store business on his father’s side of the family—shaped Paul’s work ethic and dedication. As with his entire life, Paul’s career as Dillons Secretary-Treasurer exhibited fairness, foresight, ingenuity, and good will. For Paul, being on time meant arriving at least five minutes early, and he was always early. He impressively balanced work, family, fun, and friendship, and when faced with life’s challenges responded with curiosity and commitment.&nbsp;

Throughout his life, Paul kept close relationships, including ones with friends he’d run track and scouted with in his youth. He eagerly picked up family and friends for golf, tennis, lunch, dinner, or celebrations at Prairie Dunes Country Club and other local venues. &nbsp;A Scoutmaster for decades in Hutchinson Troop #1, Paul received regional and national awards and positively influenced hundreds of Scouts for whom Paul’s expression, “Good night, Scouts,” lives on with highest regard.&nbsp;

Strong believers in service to community, Paul and Ruth were among the founders of the Hutchinson Community Foundation, where Paul served as an investment advisor for over 25 years. He volunteered whenever he could, most recently at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center assisting with computers.&nbsp;

Paul relished picnicking and skiing in Aspen and teaching his children and grandchildren to ski. He was always the last one off the mountain even with a broken shoulder and put away his skis in his mid-80s without announcing his last run down the mountain. Other favorite activities included swapping stories, traveling, gardening, birdwatching, especially for orioles, fishing, curating fish tanks, any family event, giving grandkids tractor rides, and hobbies that created items he could give away.&nbsp;

To thousands he gifted “Paul’s Pickles,” over 300 hooked rugs, and more than 10,000 reindeer made of wood and catalpa leaves from the family farm outside Hutchinson. Paul grinned quickly, paid bills as early as possible, prized making “Dad and Grandpa eggs,” preferred plaid flannel shirts, khaki pants, and white socks (much to Ruth’s dismay), craved homemade grape ice cream, favored huskies, and loved teasing Ruth. When you shared time with Paul Dillon, he and you felt special.

An unflappable and admirable team, Paul and Ruth lovingly raised three remarkable children: David Dillon, Ann Ramseyer, and Mary Dillon. Paul remains a beloved father, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to 17 (and one on the way). His was a loved and loving son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, nephew, father-in-law, and friend. He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 75 years Ruth Dillon, his parents, his Uncle Ray and Aunt Stella, his cousin Ace and wife Betty, and Paul’s cousin Dick, and many close friends and family members.&nbsp;

Kyle Lee Thompson, 48, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at McPherson Hospital.

Kyle was born on August 6, 1975, in Arkansas City, KS, the cherished son of Carl Lee and Karla Kay (Bose) Thompson. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School, McPherson Middle School, and graduated from McPherson High School in 1994. Kyle’s career included working at Viega Manufacturing and being a line supervisor for Watts Water Works in Kansas City.

He was a member of the McPherson V.F.W. Auxiliary and embraced a variety of passions throughout his life. He was an avid enthusiast of heavy metal music, particularly enjoying bands like Alice In Chains and Metallica. Kyle found joy in playing guitar, gaming, motocross racing, and paintballing. He enjoyed watching Hannity on the Fox News Channel with his father. Kyle also delighted in attending Renaissance festivals and counted "Pirates of the Caribbean" among his favorite films. He was known for his love of SpongeBob SquarePants, G.I. Joe action figurines, Pee-wee Herman, NASCAR #24, and Doberman Pinschers.&nbsp; Kyle was kind and compassionate with a dry sense of humor.&nbsp; He was a loving uncle to Avery and Cadence.

Survivors include his mother, Karla Thompson of McPherson, KS; brother, Chad Thompson of McPherson, KS; nieces, Avery and Cadence Thompson; and numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Thompson (just 12 days prior on July 7, 2024), and his beloved Doberman Pinschers, Zoey and Sarge.

A celebration of Kyle's life will be held jointly with his father's on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the McPherson V.F.W. Post #2715, 120 S. Taft St., McPherson, KS.

Born March 9, 1935, to Walter Ray McPherson and Edith (Davis) McPherson in Perry/Noble County, Oklahoma. The family moved to Kansas in 1940. She later graduated from Chase High School in 1952 and attended Fort Hays State where she met Joseph Hickel. They married December 29, 1954, and celebrated 57 years before his death June 20, 2011. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society of Ellinwood. She was a member of Grove Park Golf Club and several bridge clubs. She cheered on her beloved KC Royals, KU Jayhawks, and KSU Wildcats sports teams.  For many years, she served as organist for the Saturday evening mass at St. Joseph’s Church. She oversaw Ellinwood youth bowling for several years and was an avid bowler herself. She coached summer high school fast pitch softball, even taking one team to State. Helen was employed as bookkeeper for several local small businesses and in area banks before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Norma Chambers, infant brother Charles Ray, and a great grandson Rowan Joseph-Kai Toles. Survivors are daughters Diana (Paul) Zecha, Hoisington, and Pamela (Rich) Koester, Hoisington. Sons are Greg Hickel, Ellinwood, Scott (Deb) Hickel, Denver, CO, and Kevin (Angie) Hickel, Manhattan. Grandchildren: Bethany Ramsey, Kyle and Steven Zecha, Lacey, Brianne, Jacquelyn, and Rylie Koester, MacKenzie Koester-Smith, Elisha Toles, Josh Hickel, Caden and Greyson Hickel; and ten great grandchildren.

Helen Marie (McPherson) Hickel |1935-2024|

Born July 29, 1934, in Leoti, Wichita County, Kansas, Marlene was the fifth child of Ernest and Martha Lungwitz. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1952 and attended Hutchinson Community College where she met the love of her life, William Henry Ernsting, in the fall of 1952. It was love at first sight and they were married June 27, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wichita. The couple lived in Ogden, Kansas, while William served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Riley, and then moved to Hays, Kansas. The couple lived in Honduras in 1957-58 before locating to Ellinwood, Kansas, where she resided for the next 66 years.

Marlene and William operated the Ernsting family farm south of Ellinwood for 15 years before establishing Ernsting Radiator Service (Ernsting’s Inc.) in 1972. They were a team in the business that provided dozens of local youth their first jobs, and the company remains a steady employer to the current day. She was dedicated to service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in a variety of leadership roles and remained active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League for more than 50 years. Marlene was an initial and long-time board member for the international Lutheran mission agency Lead a Child. She was elected to two consecutive terms (1989-1997) on the Barton Community College Board of Trustees.

She served on the board and volunteered at the Barton County Historical Society for more than 20 years.

She loved to travel, was a voracious reader, an avid bridge player, believed red wine far superior to white, and followed every pitch, pass, and shot of the Royals, Chiefs, Shockers, Wildcats, Jayhawks, and Cougars. In the spring she gardened, which meant she pulled weeds, planted flowers, and then pulled more weeds. She famously entertained family and friends at her pool and patio in the summers to the sounds of splashing, laughing, and the slam of the back door as she entered the house for more beverages, snacks, or one more towel. In more recent days, she waged a long war with her cell phone.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, William Ernsting (2010), and son Matthew Ernsting (2019); and siblings LeRoy Lungwitz and Kenneth Lungwitz. She is survived by her sons Guy Ernsting of Ellinwood, Kansas, and Andrew Ernsting and his wife, Kristi, of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Levi Ernsting, Rebeka Watson, Jena Lynn, Drew Ernsting, and Jake Ernsting, four great grandchildren; and siblings Lillian Frey, Lorna Hohman, and Leon Lungwitz.

Funeral service will take place 10:30 AM, Wed., July 24 at St. John Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, KS. Mary Ann Loewen Friesen entered her eternal home July 18, 2024 at Sunshine Meadows, Buhler, Kansas. She was born September 2, 1923, to David T. and Marie (Claassen) Loewen near Hillsboro, Kansas. She made a profession of faith and was baptized in the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church at the age of 12. She was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. She married Abe L. Friesen on July 5, 1966 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2008. Welcoming her to Heaven are: husband Abe, her parents, brothers Archie, Norman, Wallace, sister Maxine and brother-in-law LaVerne Funk, nephew Richard Funk, daughter- in-law Norma Friesen, son-in-law, Dean Graber, and granddaughter-in-law Bonnie Friesen.

Rejoicing in her home-going are the Friesen children: Carol Graber, Willard &amp; Marge Friesen, Genevie Schmidt (Gary), Bob and Virginia Friesen, Rita Loewen (Robert), 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, her Loewen nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Joyce Funk.

Tracey Jo Aitken, 63, of McPherson, KS, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Nebraska Medicine, Omaha, NE.

Tracey was born in Manhattan, KS on August 7, 1960, the daughter of Bobby Lee and Sandra Sue (West) Gibson.

Tracey attended Lyons grade school and graduated from McPherson High School. She then attended Brown Mackie Business School in Salina, KS where she received her Associates Degree.

Through the years Tracey worked for NCRA in the purchasing department.

Tracey enjoyed cooking, reading, loved taking care of other people, picking out flowers, and watching baseball. She loved watching her children and grandchildren in their sporting events and grandchildren in their rodeo events. Tracey enjoyed her walks with Larry, relaxing on the patio with her family and visiting with close friends.

Tracey was united in marriage to Larry Aitken on June 12, 1982 in McPherson, KS. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. They were blessed with the birth of two children, Sarah and Luke.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; father, Bobby Gibson of Moundridge, KS; children, Sarah Henry of Canton, KS and Luke Aitken of Shawnee, KS; five grandchildren, Silas (Dylan) Stewart, Asa Courtney, Wyatt, Levi and Jovey Henry; brothers, Rob (Lori) Gibson of Statesboro, GA and Brian (Jill) Gibson of Owasso, OK.

Tracey was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Gibson and son-in-law, Barry Henry.

Hailey Ranae Rork was born to Susan&nbsp;Loescher&nbsp;Chrislip and William “Bill” Rork Jr. on October 5, 1993 in Wichita Kansas. From the very day of her birth, Hailey was an obvious fighter and throughout her 30 years of life with her mom by her side was one of God’s toughest warriors. She was determined to beat all odds and take down any obstacles, restrictions, limitations or expectations that were ever placed upon her. She did this with the upmost courage and bravery, along with determination, grace, and brute force strength that left all those who bore witness in pure amazement. Hailey’s tenacious personality, her sassy spunk, laughter, stubbornness, as well as her ability to turn the worst day into a better day for those in her presence all radiated from her core that could be felt by anyone who had the pleasure to know her. Hailey was the light in a world that can seem so dark, a rarity of constant joy that will be missed by so many.

“Bebbus”, “Hails”, “Short Stuff” and “Toots” were a few of the many nicknames that she acquired throughout her life. Others however, called her a miracle, a gem, and an angel that walked among us. All aliases reigned true, but the names she found the most joy in were daughter, sister, aunt, niece, granddaughter, and friend to everyone that she met, as she knew no stranger.

Hailey was raised and lived in McPherson, Kansas with her mom, Susan and bonus dad John. John and Hailey had undeniable love and bond that never waivered and was like no other. Hailey attended elementary school in McPherson, McPherson Middle School and McPherson High School where she graduated in 2013.&nbsp; She then attended the wonderful Strive program of McPherson. Hailey was a client of New Beginnings of McPherson where she acquired many friends and loved ones whom she considered family.

Donna J. Skinner, 93, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Hutchinson, KS. Donna was born on October 6, 1930, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Ernest Endres and Florence Crabb.

Donna graduated from Hutchinson High School. On February 14, 1950, Donna married Lyle G. Skinner in Hutchinson, KS. Donna was a rural route carrier with the United States Postal Service in the Hutchinson area for 13 years. Donna was a member of the American Legion and the Moose lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Lyle.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Shirley Hawkins; grandchildren, Tammy Wooley, Deedra Crespo; four great grandchildren, Tiffany Lopez, Jessica Wooley, Joanie Crespo, Frankie Crespo; three great-great granddaughters and two great-great grandsons.

Robert Thomas “Bob” Owens of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away July 12, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Bob was born September 27, 1932, (or as he liked to say, “9-27- a long time ago) in Emporia, Kansas. He was the son of William P. and Loretta A. Owens. He graduated from Emporia High School, class of 1951.

During his youth, he worked cattle with his grandfather, two canneries in Oregon, and also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard December of 1951 and proudly served on the USCGC Sweetbriar during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in June of 1954.

During his lifetime, he owned and operated 17 different businesses starting with a fireworks stand, several car washes including Robo Car Wash, Fill and Wash and Wash on Wheels. He owned a liquor store, three Pizza Huts, Patlyn Oil, Owens Oil, vending machines and several convenience stores. Bob donated yearly to St. Judes and Shriners Hospital.

Bob will be dearly missed by his family, daughter, Pamela Wait; brother, Carl Owens; grandchildren, Amanda James (Mark), Samuel Palmatier, and Kristin Wait; and great grandson, Korben Craigg, all of Hutchinson; several nieces and nephews; and his “buddies” McGuire (dog) and Mick (cat).

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Caralee Mueller; his son, Robert Wait; and the love of his life Patricia “Patty” Owens.

There will be a brief graveside service at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave. Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Victor Halfmoon officiating. Donald "Donnie" Wayne Fisher, 71, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at his home. He was born March 14, 1953 in Fort Stockton, Texas to Donald L. and Shirley (Klingensmith) Fisher. Donnie married Kris (Keith) Fisher October 18, 1975. They were married for 49 years.

Donnie attended Pratt High School and later worked as a water truck driver for 36 years at Pratt Well Service. After Pratt Well Service, he hauled fuel for Skyland Grain and S&amp;J Trucking before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, cooking, watching cooking shows and traveling. He loved spending time with family.

He is survived by his Wife, Kris Fisher of Pratt; Son, Mike (Dianna) Fisher of Preston; Daughter, Shelly (Joey) Tuttle of Haviland; Bonus son, Jeremy (Crystal) Weaver of Comstock, Nebraska; Grandchildren, Michaela (Edward) Duerson of Preston, Nick Fisher of Wichita, Marie Tuttle of Medicine Lodge and Dutch Weaver of Comstock, Nebraska; Sister, Susie (Chuck) Bryant of Lawrence; Brother, Scott (Mark) Fisher-Stephens of Bullhead City, Arizona; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other family members.

Evelyn F. “Mickey” Griffith, 99, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Pine Village, Moundridge.&nbsp;

Mickey was born on November 19, 1924, in Clovis, NM, the daughter of Ernest Frank and Ruby Pearl (Glandon) Weaver.&nbsp; In 1942, she graduated from Haxtun High School in Colorado and continued her education at McPherson College.&nbsp; On August 18, 1946, Mickey was united in marriage to D.O. Minns, Jr. in Grand Junction, CO.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Garold, Ron, and Julie.&nbsp; D.O. passed away on June 9, 1966.&nbsp; She married Jack Griffith on February 2, 1968. They later divorced.

In her earlier years, Mickey worked for Raleigh’s Drug Store and was a secretary for U.S.D. 418.&nbsp; She retired in 1992 from McPherson Bank &amp; Trust/Bank IV where she was an administrative assistant.&nbsp; Following retirement, she worked in food service for the school district.

She was a member of the McPherson Hospital Auxiliary and Futurama Study Club.&nbsp;

Survivors include three children, Garold (Nancy) Minns of Bel Aire, KS, Ron (Lynette) Minns of McPherson, KS, and Julie (Wayne) Morrow of Wichita, KS; seven grandchildren, Laura (Eric) Souther, JulieAnn (Paul) Stover, Christopher (Yen) Minns, Christy Minns, Lindsay (Shane) Heltzen, Tessa (Garrett) Konen, and Dennan Morrow; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Nellie Weaver who helped raise Mickey following Ruby’s death, and brother &amp; sister-in-law, Kenneth &amp; Dee Weaver.

Loren Schwabauer, 78, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on November 5, 1945 in Goessel, Kansas to Henry “Hank” and Bertha Ruth (Decker) Schwabauer. Loren was a retired truck driver of 47 years and loved the outdoors and fishing.

Loren was survived by his son Matt Schwabauer and wife, Morgan Schwabauer; grandchildren Cade Schwabauer, and Kendall Schwabauer; brother Brad Schwabauer; and companion Deanna Anderson Baugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Bertha Ruth Schwabauer; brother William “Bill” Schwabauer.

Loren’s life is celebrated by family and friends. He’s one of the good guys and will be greatly missed.

Alan Clay Gilliam, 71, died unexpectedly July 15, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. &nbsp;He was born August 30, 1952, in Wichita, to James P. and Edna LaVerne (Smith) Gilliam.

Alan graduated from Valley Center High School, in 1971. &nbsp;He had worked at Haven Steel Products. &nbsp;Known by his family and friends as a workaholic, Alan enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and volunteering at his church, Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.

On February 10, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Kay Lickey, in Valley Center.

Alan is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of 51 years, Sandra Gilliam of Hutchinson; daughter, Angie Ridings (Dan) of Edmond, OK; daughter-in-law, Amy Beden-Gilliam; brother, Donald Gene Gilliam (Connie) of Mulvane; sister, Cindy Lees (Dana) of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Paige Ridings, Cody Ridings, Jordan Young, and Mackenzie Garcia (Rigo Garcia); and great-aunt, Shirley Robinson. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Matthew Gilliam and Daniel Gilliam.

Wanda (Estabrooks) Lehr Tipton, born July 12, 1934, in Hutchinson, KS died July 16, 2024 at home in Valley Center, Kansas surrounded by her 4 children. &nbsp;She is survived by her son, Don Lehr (Tricia), Wichita KS, son Bill Lehr (Su), Valley Center, KS, daughter KayLene Haug (Dewey), Valley Center, KS, and daughter Patty Walton (Jack), Sterling, KS; 8 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Elms, Broomfield CO; and former husband Jerry Tipton. She was preceded in death by her parents J.W. and Katie Estabrooks, sister Alice Stoughton; and first husband Gary Lehr.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School class of 1952 and attended Salt City Business College. Her career as an accomplished bookkeeper spanned more than 60 years, beginning at a small family-owned business, Lehr’s Packing Company in Hutchinson, then Gibson’s Discount Center Hutchinson and Newton. &nbsp;The remainder of her career was spent at BG Products of Wichita where she was proud to be the 2nd staffer hired when BG was just getting started and remained a part of BG’s success as a growing international company until she retired. &nbsp;Throughout her life she was happiest being with and cooking for family, friends and coworkers. &nbsp;Following her retirement, she pursued her joys of cooking, gardening, playing bingo and sharing her love for antiques and collectibles with her friends at Metcalf Sisters Antique Store in Newton, KS.

The family is planning a celebration of life open house later this year. In lieu of flowers Wanda would be honored with donations to the KS Food Bank or your local food bank to help feed the hungry. &nbsp;

Wavern D. Unruh, 86, of Galva, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Hillsboro Community Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1937 in Newton, Kansas, to Otis Melvin and Manda J. (Unruh) Unruh.

Wavern attended the Happy Hollow School in rural Galva.

He was a member of the Lone Tree Mennonite Church in rural Galva.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Unruh on January 10, 1958 at the Lone Tree Mennonite Church. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1993. Wavern later married Lois Jeanette (Holdeman) Nightingale on August 5, 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Unruh of the home; son, Lonnie D. (Charlene) Unruh of Galva; three sisters, Myrna (Galen) Unruh of Galva, Nada (Carl) Wedel of Galva, and Judy (Dave) Unruh of McPherson; four step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Wavern was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty Unruh; daughter, Joni Lou Unruh; and brother, Donnie Unruh.

Charles Everett Dealy, 98, of Sylvia KS, passed away July 15, 2024, with family by his side. Charles was born July 21, 1925, in Hutchinson KS to Eugene J. Dealy and Maud Barr Dealy. Charles graduated from Hutchinson High School class of 1943 and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 101.

As a youth he rode his horse to school, showed calves in 4-H, helping his father with their matched team of horses and everything else on the farm.&nbsp;

One Saturday night at a dance in Turon, KS, he met his beautiful bride of 74 years, Sylvia O. Durham. They were married on March 11, 1950, in Pratt KS. Charles’ second love of his life was his work as a dozer operator, which he retired from at age 78. This work took him to all but 18 states and gave him numerous stories to tell, which he would tell anyone that would listen. Once Charles retired, he went back to his roots, farming. He also started raising water buffalo in 1992, which was the first commercial herd in Kansas.&nbsp;

Charles will be dearly missed by his family: wife Sylvia, Sylvia KS, and their five children Rita Dealy Williamson (Fred) Idaho Springs, CO; Walter (Sherry) Arlington, KS; Charles A. Sylvia, KS; James (Annette) Sylvia, KS; and Thresa Dealy Koepplin (Scott) Hutchinson, KS; &nbsp;grandchildren: Michael (Reneta) Derby, KS; Trisha Dealy Elliott (Adam) Enterprise, KS; Brendan Williamson (Mara) Richmond VA; Tamsin (John) Mesquite, TX; Megan Kilpatrick Burrell (Avery) Augusta GA; Page Williamson Butte MT; Hilary Williamson Jackson WY; &nbsp;John Dealy Liberal KS; Jesse Dealy Plevna KS; Katherine Dealy Osceola, AR; Aubrey Dealy Sylvia KS, and 12 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Beth Elizabeth Dealy Craig.

 </figure>Charles Everett Dealy, 98, of Sylvia KS, passed away July 15, 2024, with family by his side. Charles was born July 21, 1925, in Hutchinson KS to Eugene J. Dealy and Maud Barr Dealy. Charles graduated from Hutchinson High School class of 1943 and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 101.As a youth he rode his horse to school, showed calves in 4-H, helping his father with their matched team of horses and everything else on the farm.&nbsp;One Saturday night at a dance in Turon, KS, he met his beautiful bride of 74 years, Sylvia O. Durham. They were married on March 11, 1950, in Pratt KS. Charles’ second love of his life was his work as a dozer operator, which he retired from at age 78. This work took him to all but 18 states and gave him numerous stories to tell, which he would tell anyone that would listen. Once Charles retired, he went back to his roots, farming. He also started raising water buffalo in 1992, which was the first commercial herd in Kansas.&nbsp;Charles will be dearly missed by his family: wife Sylvia, Sylvia KS, and their five children Rita Dealy Williamson (Fred) Idaho Springs, CO; Walter (Sherry) Arlington, KS; Charles A. Sylvia, KS; James (Annette) Sylvia, KS; and Thresa Dealy Koepplin (Scott) Hutchinson, KS; &nbsp;grandchildren: Michael (Reneta) Derby, KS; Trisha Dealy Elliott (Adam) Enterprise, KS; Brendan Williamson (Mara) Richmond VA; Tamsin (John) Mesquite, TX; Megan Kilpatrick Burrell (Avery) Augusta GA; Page Williamson Butte MT; Hilary Williamson Jackson WY; &nbsp;John Dealy Liberal KS; Jesse Dealy Plevna KS; Katherine Dealy Osceola, AR; Aubrey Dealy Sylvia KS, and 12 great grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Beth Elizabeth Dealy Craig.Rosary will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.
