Steven Dale Horner, age 68, was born July 30, 1954 in Wichita, KS to Kenneth and Helen Horner, and passed away in Springfield, MO on April 19, 2023.

He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School, Tecumseh, KS in 1972, and has resided in the Lampe, Mo area for the past 25+ years.

Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Nancy Elliott.

Survivors include sister, Sandy Mosier (Phil), Hutchinson, KS, and nieces and nephews.

Daryl W. Downing, 79, of Hutchinson, died April 21, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 22, 1943, at Hoffman Memorial Hospital, Little River, to Cecil B. and Bernice L. (Smith) Downing.

Daryl graduated from Little River High School in 1961. Following high school, he attended junior college for two years, then graduated from Adela Hale Business School in 1965. He worked as a machinist/can line operator at Carey Salt Evaporation Plant for 34 years. Thereafter, Daryl was a supply deliveryman at Hutchinson Clinic Central Supply for 16 years. Daryl knew how to keep busy; he was always “on the go.” In his free time, Daryl loved cars. He would frequently feature his trucks in car shows. Daryl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He would do anything for anyone. He was especially talented at telling stories; he would talk everyone’s ears off. One thing that he was particularly proud of were his two grandchildren. Daryl loved watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. He would try his hardest to make it to every game.

On March 24, 1973, he married Theresa M. Hampel in Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 50 years of marriage before he passed.

Daryl is survived by: wife, Theresa (Terri) Downing, of Hutchinson; son, Darrin (Abbi) Downing, of Wichita; grandchildren, Daxton and Eastyn Downing, also of Wichita; special niece, Melissa (Kelley) Scheffe, of Hutchinson; and other nieces and nephews in California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Charlene Lawson.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Montie McFerrin officiating. Burial will follow at 12 p.m. in Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Agnar “Ag” Sheldon Regier, 83, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Brookdale Senior Living, McPherson.&nbsp; Ag worked as a maintenance technician at W-R Milling Company in McPherson for 41 years.

Ag was born on April 25, 1939, in McPherson, KS, the son of John James and Edna W. (Christensen) Regier.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School.&nbsp; On February 13, 1960, Ag was united in marriage to Marlena Marie Clark in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Randy and Jason.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 63 years, Marlena; two sons, Randy (Jackie) Regier of McPherson, KS and Jason (Melissa) Regier of McPherson, KS; a sister, Merry Persinger of Derby, KS; seven grandchildren, Brittney (Brett) Jennings, John (Kristen) Regier, Tyler Regier, Shelby Regier, Camryn Regier, Alayna Colwell, and Owen Colwell; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Charles Regier, Johnny Keith Regier, John “Jack” Regier, Shirley Rose Smith, and Betty Demieville.

Mission Hills — Jim Whittier, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 19, 2023.&nbsp;Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret Welch Whittier&nbsp;(Hutchinson, Kansas), daughters Stacey McCarthy (Dan McCarthy) of West Newton,&nbsp;Massachusetts, and Jody Madler (Peter Madler) of Mount Prospect, Illinois, in addition to three beloved grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.

Jim was born November 29, 1937, in Kansas City to Mary Josephine Lundteigen, and Marshall Waldo Whittier. He graduated from Pembroke Hill School then the University of Kansas where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He later returned to earn a J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. 

Jim joined Spencer, Fane, Britt and Browne law firm in 1966, where he later became a Partner practicing corporate law. In 1987, he joined Ferree, Bunn, Rundberg, Radom, and Ridgeway as Of Counsel. He was a longtime member of the Missouri and Kansas Bar Associations. 

Jim was a dedicated member of the Kansas City civic community serving as Board Chairman of Children’s
 TLC, Trustee of Children’s TLC Stepladder Fund, Chairman of the Board 
of Trustees of the Prairie Village Police Pension Fund, and President of the Social Health Society of Greater Kansas City. He continued his community service in his role of Treasurer of the Ranch Property Owners Association in Durango, Colorado.

Jim was a longtime, active member of the Mercury Club and the Plaza Breakfast Club. He also enjoyed many rounds of golf and games of tennis with friends and family as a member of the Carriage Club and Lake Quivira Country Club. 

In 1996, Marg and Jim built their dream home in Durango, Colorado. This home away from home provided the opportunity for friends and family to join in his passion for fly fishing, skiing, hiking and off–roading in his treasured red Jeep Wrangler. 

Jim cherished his family and friends, and through his example, set the family standard for the roles of loving husband, father, brother,&nbsp;and uncle. He will be missed by many in the Kansas City, and Durango communities who were touched by his philanthropy, intellect, kindness,&nbsp;and dry sense of humor.

March 5, 2023, at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; He was born in 
Industry, Kansas, to Jesse C. and Verna F. (Loader) Downs, on January 
15, 1924.&nbsp; He graduated Salina High School in 1942 and joined the Army 
Airforce, that same year.&nbsp; He served for four years during World War 
II.&nbsp; On November 3, 1946, Jesse married Margaret Elizabeth Burk, in 
Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; They were married and inseparable for 74 years. &nbsp;

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Utech (James), of Manhattan, 
Stephen Downs (Rosalie), of Colorado Springs, and Greg Downs (Eileen), 
of Hutchinson; one sister, Doris Tuttle, of Colorado Springs; 
grandchildren, Kimberly Splawn (Robert), Melissa Kendall (Jeremy), Jesse
 A. Downs (Dana), Nancy Erickson (Lewis), James M. Utech (Lora), David

Patricia “Patty” Ann Borchert, 70, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. She was born November 22, 1952 in Ness City, KS to Glen and Gertrude (Werner) Cavenah.

Patty attended McPherson High School and graduated in 1971. In 1976, she married Russell D. Borchert. They had two children, Adria and Brian. Patty and Russell later divorced. She is a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Hutchinson. She enjoyed spending her time outside, whether it was to garden, swim, or work on her tan. Patty also loved to spend time with her family, and especially her grandchildren. Patty loved taking care of young children and spent many years working at the Hutchinson Children’s Emergency Center. She also spent many years working for Hutchinson Hospital and Home Instead Senior Care.

Patty is preceded by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Larry, and David Cavenah; and two sisters, Ramona Kincaid and Juanita Cavenah.

She is survived by her daughter, Adria Jackson and her husband, William; son, Brian Borchert; siblings, Charles, Dennis, and Collette Cavenah; her three grandchildren, Jillian Tobin, and Jacob and Rhys Jackson; and multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, with a rosary to follow at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Ave, at 7:00pm. She was always very social and friendly, Bev loved to talk to anyone that would listen. She also enjoyed singing and coloring.

Bev Ann Cromwell |1939-2023|

Carol Ann Ewing, 75, died April 20, 2023, at Buhler Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, after a long, but courageous battle against cancer. She was born January 16, 1948, in Sioux City, IA, to LeRoy Lawrence and Shirley Jean (Harwood) Muir.

Carol attended Nickerson High School and obtained a GED. She also took classes at Hutchinson Community College in 1972.

She worked at Krause Corporation, now KUHN Krause, for almost 25 years. Carol was the receptionist and loved it! No work day was the same for her. She loved interacting with and meeting new people. Carol didn’t know a stranger and had the gift of gab.

Watching sports took up most of her free time. She loved NASCAR (Kyle Busch), football (K-State and the Kansas City Chiefs), and NCAA men’s basketball, especially March Madness.

Carol is survived by: her two beautiful children, Lisa Ewing and Matthew (La Shaune) Ewing; older brother, Jim Muir; baby brother, Randy (Julie) Gould; sister, Janette Singer; grandchildren, Tyler, Thomas and Ellie Ewing.

She was preceded in death by: her grandparents; parents; brothers, Steve Gould and Tom Gould; sister, Sherry Serkes; sister-in-law, Cindy Muir; and granddogs, Honey, Chance, Chocolate, and Layla.

Per Carol’s request, cremation has taken place and no funeral services are planned.

She was born January 16, 1948, in Sioux City, IA, to LeRoy Lawrence and Shirley Jean (Harwood) Muir.Carol attended Nickerson High School and obtained a GED. She also took classes at Hutchinson Community College in 1972.She worked at Krause Corporation, now KUHN Krause, for almost 25 years. Carol was the receptionist and loved it! No work day was the same for her. She loved interacting with and meeting new people. Carol didn’t know a stranger and had the gift of gab.Watching sports took up most of her free time. She loved NASCAR (Kyle Busch), football (K-State and the Kansas City Chiefs), and NCAA men’s basketball, especially March Madness.Carol is survived by: her two beautiful children, Lisa Ewing and Matthew (La Shaune) Ewing; older brother, Jim Muir; baby brother, Randy (Julie) Gould; sister, Janette Singer; grandchildren, Tyler, Thomas and Ellie Ewing.She was preceded in death by: her grandparents; parents; brothers, Steve Gould and Tom Gould; sister, Sherry Serkes; sister-in-law, Cindy Muir; and granddogs, Honey, Chance, Chocolate, and Layla.Per Carol’s request, cremation has taken place and no funeral services are planned.In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Reno County or to Carol Ewing Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Luella Schmidt, Moundridge, Kansas, died April 21, 2023 at the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge. She was 95 years old. 

Luella was born November 20, 1927, at Verden, Oklahoma, to William and Carrie (Nightingale) Schmidt. She moved with her parents to Burns, Kansas, in 1946, and later to Moundridge where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Meridian Mennonite Church at Hesston. Luella was a nurse and worked at area elder care homes for many years.

Carroll Lee Engelland, 93, passed away April 19, 2023, at his home.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on December 19, 1929, in rural Rice County, to Ansel Engelland and Elsie (Stange) Engelland.

Carroll was a 1947 graduate of Nickerson High and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a farmer and dairyman.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carroll served on the Nickerson Cooperative Board and the Midland United Church of Christ Board.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a longtime member of the Midland United Church of Christ, Sterling.

On May 6, 1951, Carroll married Delpha White, in Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;They shared over 71 years of marriage.

Carroll is survived by:&nbsp;&nbsp;his wife, Delpha Engelland of Hutchinson; sons, Bruce (Sharon) Engelland of Nickerson, Glenn (Kay) Engelland of Salina, and Tom (Dena) Engelland of Sterling; grandchildren, Brent Engelland, Brett Engelland, Matthew Engelland, Erin Engelland Hughes, Kathleen Engelland Huelskamp, Alex Engelland, and Eric Engelland; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl Engelland of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Betty Engelland of Sterling.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp;&nbsp;his parents; great-grandson, Michael Engelland; and brothers, Donald Engelland, Kermit Engelland, and Dwight Engelland.

Mary Elizabeth Herr passed away at age 94, on April 19, 2023, in Hesston, Kansas. Mary was born on July 22, 1928, in Plain City, Ohio, to Eli and Ida (Kaufman) Yutzy. She married H. Eugene “Gene” Herr on May 21, 1955, in Kingview, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Earl Yutzy and Vernon Yutzy, who resided in Plain City. She attended primary and high school in Plain City. She graduated in 1949 (AA) and 1953 (BA) from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana.

Mary had a wonderfully diverse life and career that touched many people. From 1949-51 she taught at a one-room school in Plain City. In 1953, she moved to Chicago where she meet Gene while serving in the Mennonite Church’s Voluntary Service program. After raising three children she returned to work outside the home, teaching Language Arts in Harper, Kansas, and Middlebury, Indiana, during the late 1960s to mid-1970s. From 1978-1982, she and Gene were founders and co-directors of the Phoenix Discipleship and Service program sponsored by the Mennonite Board of Missions, and from 1982-1985 she served Director of Service Ministries at the Mennonite Board of Missions in Elkhart, Indiana. On September 10, 1989, she was ordained for spiritual retreat ministry by the Indiana Michigan Mennonite Conference.

From 1985 through 2001, Mary and Gene established The Hermitage Retreat Center in Three Rivers, Michigan—a place where their vision and dreams came together. Located on 53 acres with a barn that was expertly repurposed by a local craftsman and family friend, it is a place for spiritual retreats and to connect with nature on wooded trails. After retiring in 2001, they spent five months in Belfast, Northern Ireland, working at the Columbanus Community of Reconciliation. They also traveled domestically and internationally.

Through the years and across different roles and settings, Mary served and mentored others. She was a doting and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a wonderful friend, and a chef known for keeping and starting family culinary traditions. She was also a gracious hostess and opened her home to countless visitors from throughout the world. Those experiences enriched her family and formed life-long relationships. She is survived by three children: son, Phillip and his wife Magda of Olney, Maryland; son, Karl and his wife Mary Lynne of Bayfield, Colorado; and daughter, Ellen Awe and her husband Darryl of Wichita, Kansas. She has six granddaughters along with their respective spouses: Jessica McElhiney, Heather Herr, Alejandra Herr (Brian Boyd), Emily (Chris) Metcalf, Amber Vogts (Matt Wilder), and Avery Vogts (Ethan Oltean). She also has five great-grandsons: Oliver and Jack Metcalf, and Bryton, Sebastian, and Benjamin Boyd. Private family burial will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023 at Hesston Mennonite Church, Hesston, Kansas. Cheryl Diana LeFort was born July 13th, 1956 in Wichita, KS daughter of Theresa and Ray Ward.&nbsp; The family moved to Derby, Kansas in 1963 where Cheryl grew up and attended school.&nbsp; She was a very hard worker and began working in High School and bought her first car, a 1976 red Ford Pinto.&nbsp; She worked in the nursing home for over 30 years. She loved her residents and took exceptional care of them and they all become like family to her.&nbsp; Don joked saying she loved her residents and coworkers so much that she would one day just move in there so that she could clock out and go straight to her room,&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cheryl met and married James Donavon Lefort on Novermber 9, 1990 .&nbsp; Brought to this union one son, Bobby, and one daughter, Sandra.&nbsp; Cheryl loved both Bobby and Sandra as her own and would give either of them her shirt off her back.&nbsp; Don and Cheryl were happily married for 32 years.&nbsp; Cheryl's husband Don liked to tease her by calling Cheryl "Granny whooper snooper" Or "What’s the Troubles, Bubbles" in front of the kids.&nbsp; The grandkids picked up quickly to that and started teasing their grandma by calling her "Granny Whooper Snooper."&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In Cheryl's free time she loved going to the movies and getting her nails done. Grandma Cheryl has taken her grandkids to plenty of movies over the years.&nbsp; The kids all have memories.&nbsp; There was no doubt that Cheryl LOVED her movies.&nbsp; Being at the theater was her happy place. Mida recalls her always having a salt shaker and a blanket on hand. Her grandson Cruz laughed remembering his grandma Cheryl taking him and her overfilling her slushy cup. Cheryl would pick up her great nephew Landon and call him her boyfriend and take him on a date to the movies.&nbsp; She loved spoiling her grandkids, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cheryl loved to crochet blankets.&nbsp; Her niece, Tabatha, fondly remembers one time Cheryl made a trip to Wichita to give her and her sister blankets she crocheted.&nbsp; She made them as owls because they all loved owls just like their grandma Theresa and made them purple which was Cheryl’s favorite color.&nbsp;

She also had a GREAT love for her pets. Especially her Shih-tzu. She loved them like her babies and grieved when she would have to say goodbye to one. Her puppies loved her two and have sensed the loss of their MOMMY.&nbsp; Cheryl shared her love of dogs with several family members.&nbsp; Her daughter in law, Jess, her nieces Megan and Terra each have a puppy from the same line.&nbsp;Her dog, Pepper is the grandfather to all 3 dogs.&nbsp; She often called or texted to ask for pictures of the puppies. &nbsp;Her niece Terra called to be sure someone was still loving on her babies because she was sure Aunt Cheryl would want her to check.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cheryl will be remembered as being a loving wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose honest wisdom was often called upon.&nbsp; Along with her advice you could count on Cheryl to crack a joke, which inevitably followed with her laugh.&nbsp;Cheryl had a fun, outgoing personality.&nbsp;She was a very strong and independent woman.&nbsp;&nbsp; She will be greatly missed by all who knew her! Cheryl had a fun, outgoing personality.&nbsp; She was strong and very independent with a HUGE heart for her family.&nbsp;Her grandson Shae when asked what he remembered about his grandma he said "Her hilarious laugh! It was so contagious! It made me laugh."&nbsp; Cheryl always had to make sure to get a photo next to Shae each time she saw him cause she knew he would outgrow her.&nbsp; Shae did in fact outgrow Cheryl and she still wanted a photo next to him each time she was with him.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cheryl was a member of AA for many years. She worked hard to keep her sobriety. She loved her AA family and one was most proud of her husbands sobriety. She loved celebrating him. She always put others before herself. And was her husband's biggest cheerleader!

Nephews Travis and Brannon Ward and brother Randy.&nbsp; In laws Robert and Elenore LeFort and nephew Trevor Rempe.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Fay Ratzlaff, 36, of Galva, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 19,
2023 and her baby girl, Amara Belle Ratzlaff, at Wesley Medical
Center in Wichita.  Cindy was born on March 4, 1987 in West Point,
Mississippi, the daughter of Levi G. and Nancy Katie (Kanagy) Hoover.

Cindy
attended school at Hill and Dale Christian School of Dumas, Arkansas.

She
was united in marriage to Jared Keith Ratzlaff on January 26, 2014 in
Dumas, Arkansas.

Cindy
was a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in
rural Galva.

She
was a homemaker and worked in the food industry.  Cindy previously
worked in lawn care with her family business, Hoover’s Mowing
Service.  She was currently employed at the Tin Roof Pantry in Galva.

She
is survived by her husband, Jared Ratzlaff of the home; parents; Levi
and Nancy Hoover of Dumas, AR; sisters, Brenda (Sherwin) Koehn of
Liberty, KY, June (Trent) Ratzlaff of Shenandoah, VA, Ruthy (Douglas)
Unruh of Avera, GA, and Melissa (Austin) Loewen of Glenn, CA;
brother, Delton (Abby) Hoover of Dumas, AR; mother and father-in-law,
Lila and Keith Ratzlaff of Canton; sister-in-law, Ashley (Ryan) Yoder
of Homeworth, OH; aunts and uncles; and many nieces, nephews, cousins
and special friends.

Cindy
was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jacob and Lizzie
(Peachey) Kanagy; and paternal grandparents, Noah and Lizzie (Garman)
Hoover.

Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Lone
Tree Mennonite Church.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Joel Andrew Brubaker, 91, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023 at South Wind Home. He was born on September 27, 1931 near Sawyer to Everett James and Hazel Frances (Montgomery) Brubaker. Joel married Lorraine (Eller) Brubaker on August 15, 1953 in Rossville, Indiana. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2018. He enjoyed farming, traveling, spending time with his family and South Wind family and socializing with people. Barbara Dorothy (Gowen) Lay, 77, passed away on April 15, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born on September 16, 1945 to Orval and Dorothy (Braucher) Gowen. She graduated from Madison High School in Madison, KS, and also attended the Wichita Business College.&nbsp;&nbsp;After graduating, she was a lifelong resident of Wichita, Kansas.

She married Clinton Lyle Lay in Madison, KS on February 6, 1966.&nbsp;&nbsp;From that union were born their children Michael Clinton, Alan Mitchell, and Heather Michelle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara was self-employed as a child care provider for over 25 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of Countryside Christian Church since 1974, and Woodlawn Christian Church prior to that.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an avid painter, and an active member of the Kansas Wheathearts and Society of Decorative Painters.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was passionate about supporting educational scholarships through the Gowen-Lay Memorial Scholarship Fund, as well as spreading the gospel to children throughout the world via Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her many other interests included (but were certainly not limited to) collecting and creating dolls, genealogy, and spending time with her beloved family.&nbsp; She and Clinton loved to travel, and had visited all of the 50 states except one (Georgia), as well as Canada,&nbsp;Great Britain, Germany, Austria, the Panama Canal, Egypt and the Holy Lands.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Lyle Lay; her son, Alan Mitchell Lay; her grandchildren, Laura Ellen Lay and Isaac Herndon; her brother, Richard Gowen; her parents, Orval and Dorothy Gowen; as well as her brothers- and sisters-in-law Cheryl Gowen (wife of Richard), Gilbert and Ruby Lay, Donald and Barbara Jean Lay, Virginia and Earl Wigle, Eleanor and Charles Rindt, Rolland and Juanita Lay, Laverna and Ron Leeson, and Phyllis and Ralph Anderson.

She is survived by her children, Michael Lay (spouse Kim) and Heather (Lay) Berkheimer (spouse Jim); grandchildren Brandon Lay, Travis Lay (spouse Kaitie), Joshua Lay, Rachel (Lay) Messner (spouse Regan), Kristina (Lay) Hilger (spouse Mitch), Anna Lay, Adam Herndon, Melissa Lay, Cate Berkheimer, and Grace Berkheimer; and great-grandchildren Alauria and Alec Messner, Ellie and Adelynn Lay, Everleigh and Everett Hilger; and her siblings Mary Meyer (spouse Lynn), Shirley Dreyer (spouse Ken), and Charlie Gowen (spouse Cathy); and her many nieces and nephews.

Vernon Howard Tucker, 89, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away April 17, 2023, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. 

He was born February 23, 1934, in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of Ellis A. and Hazel G. Schoonover Tucker. Vernon has resided in Lyons since 1983, formerly of New Jersey and Leavenworth, Kansas. He graduated from Greensburg High School, Greensburg, Kansas, with the class of 1952. 

Vernon worked for Texaco Petroleum delivering fuel. He served in the United States Navy from June 17, 1953 until June 7, 1957. Tucker was a member of Faith Bible Church, Lyons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

On December 19, 1954, Vernon was united in marriage with Mary Margaret Gabriel in Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2015. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Bob Tucker, Doris Crow, and Clifford Tucker. Vernon is survived by his two children, Douglas Tucker and wife Susan of Annandale, VA, and Tamela Gaszak and husband Richard of Mustang, OK; and three grandchildren, Cole Tucker, Courtney Tucker and Conner Gaszak. 

A private family burial will be held at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

Marilyn Ruby Bunger, 94, of Lindsborg passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Bethany Home, Lindsborg.  Marilyn was born October 3, 1928 in Salina, KS to the late Luther and the late Ruby (Norquist) Frost.  She married Donald Bunger on February 12, 1950 at Assaria, KS.  

Marilyn worked as a telephone operator and for many years in the kitchen at Bethany Home.

She was a member of Assaria Lutheran Church, where she was active in many functions.  Marilyn was also a member of W.E.L.C.A.  

Survivors include her daughter: Darlene Shields (Mike) of Lindsborg, KS; sons: Terry Bunger (Beth) of Salina, KS, and Steve Bunger (Vicky) of Haysville, KS; as well as 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many extended family members. 

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Donald; and brothers: Emery Frost and Merrill Frost.

Visitation will be Friday, April 21 from 5-7PM at Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:30 am on Saturday, April 22 at Assaria Lutheran Church, 124 W 1st St, Assaria, KS with Pastor Dean Apel officiating.  Burial and committal services for the family will take place prior to the celebration of life.

Sophia Kathleen Stephens, 87, passed away April 18, 2023, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.&nbsp; She was born October 17, 1935, in rural Inman, KS, the daughter of Henry D. and Tina D. Klaasen Thiessen. A high school graduate of Central Christian Academy, she then received her registered nurse degree from Grace School of Nursing, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was a surgical nurse most of her life.&nbsp; Sophia was a member and very involved in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Inman; was a volunteer at 10,000 Villages; was on the Inman Museum Board; and the Hutchinson Concert Series Board. She married James Stephens on November 5, 1983.&nbsp; He passed away on January 3, 2022.

Survivors include daughters, Diane Morgan Griffin (William Griffin), Kansas City, MO and Lisa (Andrew) Entz, Wichta; stepchildren, Annel (Travis) Scates, Benton, KS and Daren Stephens, Inman; a brother, Bruce (Verbie) Thiessen, Inman; grandchildren, Tina Busenitz, Dana Oswald, Scott Entz, and Luke Entz, all of Wichita; step grandchildren, Annelise Scates, Las Vegas, NV and Mikaelynn Scates, Benton, KS; and 8 great grandchildren.

Janet was retired from Dillons and spent her retirement years watching her grandchildren grow.&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed sewing, gardening and most of all quilting.&nbsp;

On July 1, 1955, Janet married Gary O. Clarke, in Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;They shared over 66 years of marriage prior to his death on September 16, 2021.

Janet is survived by:&nbsp;&nbsp;her children, Lynette (Toby) Morris, Dana Point, CA; Cindy Wise, Olathe, KS, and Pamela (Steve) Adam, Hutchinson; four grandchildren and one great grandson.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp;&nbsp;her parents; husband; one brother and her beloved dog, Sport.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 12pm to 8pm Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Rafael "Rocky" Mancera, 61, of Wichita, KS , passed away on April 18, 2023 after a hard battle with pancreatic cancer. Rafa was born on July 11, 1961 in Morelos, Mexico. He went to school to be an architectural engineer but then decided to pursue acting. He was in a few commercials that aired in Mexico. He then became a supervisor at Mision del Sol, a resort/spa in Cuernavaca. He continued to cultivate his skills with cooking while there and met the love of his life, Cecilia. It was a whirlwind romance and they became engaged just two months after meeting. They were married on May 20th, 1988 and wanted to start a family right away. They welcomed their daughter Maria in May of 1989 and then in March of 1994, welcomed their son Rafael. Rafa's favorite sport was soccer, where he followed Club America and the Mexico National Team religiously with his son. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and making everyone around him feel like they were. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Rafael Mancera and Eloisa Enciso. Lyle Andrew “Andy” Flummerfelt passed away on April 14, 2023 in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born December 26, 1947 in Liberal, Kansas to A.A. “Buck” and Virginia (Lyle) Flummerfelt.&nbsp; He was raised in Ulysses, Kansas and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1965.&nbsp; He then graduated from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; In October 1968 he joined the United States Army.&nbsp; He started Basic Training in Fort Bliss, Texas and went on to Advanced Individual Training as a combat engineer and also Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) school at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from September 1969 to June 1971 completing 1-1/2 tours of duty.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army he moved back to Ulysses and went to work for The Happy Painters. They were well known in Southwest Kansas for working hard and playing hard. Several years later he went to work for Woody’s Electric. The memories of those days in his life stayed with Andy forever.&nbsp; In 1982 Andy moved to Hutchinson and went to work for Lowen Corporation for many years. He finished his work career at Graphic Impressions retiring in 2015.

His hobbies were reading, listening to music, playing and watching softball, socializing with friends, and spending time with his family.&nbsp; Andy was always known and loved for his kind heart, his quick wit and his great sense of humor.&nbsp; Oh the stories that could be told!

He is survived by his beloved daughter Erica Flummerfelt of Hutchinson, and stepson Matt Gillespie and his four children of Knoxville, Tennessee; brothers Roger Flummerfelt and Tommy Flummerfelt, and sister Mary Jo Zerr and husband Greg, all of Ulysses; his nieces Ginny, Heather, and Megan and their families; numerous other family and lifetime friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Roberta Flummerfelt.

Military graveside services will be held at the Ulysses Cemetery on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2:00p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at Corporate East Hotel, 1110 E. Oklahoma Ave, Ulysses, KS, immediately following the graveside service.

Teresa Murillo, 85, died April 18, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones.&nbsp; She was born Teresita Berta Reyes in Columbus, NM, to Guadalupe Terrazas Reyes and Amador Z. Reyes Sr. &nbsp;Teresa grew up in Hurley, NM, attending Cobre High School.&nbsp;

Teresa married her husband, Ruben M. Murillo Sr. June 15, 1956, in New Mexico and then moved to Hutchinson. She was a devoted housewife and mother and later in life, Teresa worked as a custodian for 17 years at Hutchinson Community College. Teresa was a 32-year cancer survivor and grateful to the Cancer Council of Reno County.

A lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Teresa put her faith into action. She loved her prayer group, and was involved with Perpetual Adoration since its inception. Teresa loved praying the Divine Mercy, the Rosary, attending Mass and giving bendiciones/blessings. She was a devoted Catholic, which was the core of her faith foundation. Teresa was dedicated to demonstrating Christ’s love to all who met her.

Survivors are: her children, Ruben Murillo Jr. (Larry Van Sickle) of Henderson, NV, Robert Murillo, Adella Luna and David (Dreda) Murillo, all of Hutchinson; close family friend, Tim Ward, OH; grandchildren, Anthony Delgado, Sal Luna, Lisa (DJ) Chapman, Emily (Nick) Brady and Nicholas Murillo; great-grandchildren, Taiyah, Tyris, Taryn and Nehemiah Chapman, Matthew Delgado and Evelyn Delgado, Alayna and Lilyana Luna; sisters, Maria Moreno, Edna Ordonez, Martha (Andrew) Garcia, Olga (Wero) Huerta, and Rose Marie (Jose) Sierra; and brother-in-law, Frank Viegra. &nbsp;Teresa dearly loved her nieces, nephews and Godchildren.

Robert Horace ‘Bob’ Milner III, 93, of Hutchinson, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at Hester Care Center-Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; He was born April 4, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to Robert H. Milner II and Florence Velma (Franklin) Milner.

Bob was a 1948 graduate of Lyons Township High School, La Grange, IL. He received a Business Administration Degree, in 1952, from Knox College, Galesburg, IL, and was a member of the college’s Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and the ROTC program.&nbsp; Shortly after his college graduation, Bob was commissioned into the United States Army in August 1952.&nbsp; On April 11, 1953, Bob married Olive Ann Waggener, in La Grange, IL, and then he was sent to Korea to serve from July 1953 to May 1954.&nbsp; Upon his return from the service, Bob and Olive made their home in Galesburg, IL for a short time, before moving to Waterloo, IA., where he began working in sales for Rath Packing Company.&nbsp; Bob spent his adult life working in sales for various meat packing companies, ending up in Arkansas City, KS, where he retired in 1996.&nbsp; In 2007, Bob and Olive relocated to Hutchinson, KS, to be closer to family, where he resided until his death.&nbsp;

He was an active railroad fan and photographer from his teenage years, with many of his photos appearing in train-related publications.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling.&nbsp; During Bob’s lifetime, he was a member of various organizations, such as the Hutchinson Rotary Club, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and the Burlington Route Historical Society.&nbsp; H was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, KS.

Bob is survived by:&nbsp; his children, Anne (Jack) Wilson, Robert (Jennifer) Milner IV, and Mary (Darrell) Pankratz; daughter-in-law, Lynne Milner; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and numerous other cherished relatives.&nbsp;

Robert Horace ‘Bob’ Milner III |1930-2023|

Geraldine Ann (Bousser) Menges, 89, passed away in Ellinwood, KS on April 18th, 2023. Born in Wichita, KS on August 1st, 1933 she was the daughter of Gardy L. and Mabel R. (Downey) Bousser. A longtime Ellinwood resident Geraldine married Gerald F. Menges on October 8th, 1951 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; In addition to taking care of a household with 9 children Geraldine was owner of Jerry's Burger house (Great Bend), and Menges rental/fireworks.&nbsp;She also did the books for Menges electric, worked as a nurses aid, and waitress.&nbsp;

Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, Ellinwood City Council, American Legion Aux. Club, Daughters of Isabella regent, and State regent.&nbsp;

Survivors include 6 children, Mary (David) Tudor, Margaret Ferguson, Mark (Tracy) Menges, Melinda Adams, Michelle (Donavon) Jones, Michel (Tara) Menges, 27 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Geraldine was preceded in death by husband, Gerald Frances Menges; sister, Barbara Harris; sons, Michael and Matthew Menges; daughter, Millie Menges; granddaughter, Monika Menges; grandson, Jeremy Adams; and great-great-granddaughter, Maleah Menges.&nbsp;

Funeral mass will take place 10:00 AM, Friday, April 21st at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 19th from 2-5 PM with 3 PM Altar Society Rosary at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood.  </figure>Geraldine Ann (Bousser) Menges, 89, passed away in Ellinwood, KS on April 18th, 2023. Born in Wichita, KS on August 1st, 1933 she was the daughter of Gardy L. and Mabel R. (Downey) Bousser. A longtime Ellinwood resident Geraldine married Gerald F. Menges on October 8th, 1951 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; In addition to taking care of a household with 9 children Geraldine was owner of Jerry's Burger house (Great Bend), and Menges rental/fireworks.&nbsp;She also did the books for Menges electric, worked as a nurses aid, and waitress.&nbsp;Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, Ellinwood City Council, American Legion Aux. Club, Daughters of Isabella regent, and State regent.&nbsp;Survivors include 6 children, Mary (David) Tudor, Margaret Ferguson, Mark (Tracy) Menges, Melinda Adams, Michelle (Donavon) Jones, Michel (Tara) Menges, 27 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Geraldine was preceded in death by husband, Gerald Frances Menges; sister, Barbara Harris; sons, Michael and Matthew Menges; daughter, Millie Menges; granddaughter, Monika Menges; grandson, Jeremy Adams; and great-great-granddaughter, Maleah Menges.&nbsp;Funeral mass will take place 10:00 AM, Friday, April 21st at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 19th from 2-5 PM with 3 PM Altar Society Rosary at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Vigil service will begin Wednesday at 7 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Kathy Jean (LeGault) Lutman, age 70, passed away April 17, 2023, after a long battle with radiation treatment complications.&nbsp;

Kathy was born October 31, 1952 in Tacoma, Washington, to Harold LeGault and Anne Welsh.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kathy grew up in Neosho, MO, where she graduated high school. She worked as a waitress, a bank processor, bowling alley clerk, grocery store checker and worked for Pfizer in McPherson as a Group Leader. Her favorite things were laking or sitting poolside in the sun and enjoying her family.She is survived by her 3 children, Deena (Brad) Gundel, Washburn, MO, Teresa (Shanley) Loffer, Ellsworth, KS, and Kristy (Alan) Horton, McPherson KS; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Haller, Lucia LeGault, and brothers, Joey LeGault, Linn LeGault, Kenny LeGault.Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, stepparents, ex-husband Steve Lutman and two brothers, Jonathan (Joe) LeGault and James Welsh.

Kathy will be cremated and there will be a party in her honor at her pool on July 15, 2023. She will be placed next to Steve Lutman at Elmwood Cemetery Lindsborg the following day.&nbsp; She has requested any memorial contributions be made to the charity of each person's choice.&nbsp; &nbsp;
