HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After receiving a proclamation for Community Foundation Week at Tuesday's Hutchinson City Council meeting, Hutchinson Community Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Aubrey Abbott Patterson took the opportunity to talk about how widely spread the foundation's work has been since its founding more than three decades ago.

"The community foundation was established in 1989," Patterson said. "Next year will be our 35th year in this community. We have grown our funds to 349 in total. Our assets have grown to around $90 million today. Our grants have exceeded that. We've given away more money in 35 years than we hold. We've given away nearly $100 million."

Patterson explained that the foundation's mission is about more than money.

"We use five forms of capital to make a difference here," Patterson said. "Those are our social, moral, intellectual, reputational and financial capital. We use those to identify gaps, connect donors and create solutions to adaptive challenges facing our community."

A good opportunity to give to your community is coming up next week.

"Next Tuesday is the day to give back," Patterson said. "It's national philanthropy day, Nov. 28. I'd like to encourage everyone to do so and to think about how to support our local non-profits. This is the time of year when we also ask for gifts to the Fund for Reno County. It's an unrestricted savings account, if you will, for our community, that our founders started back in 1990. We have a goal to build that fund to $20 million by 2030. I believe we're at about $9 million now in that fund. With a $20 million endowment of unrestricted funds, we'd be able to grant back $1 million every year, back to our community, from that fund alone."

That fund has already been responsible for $5.3 million since its inception.

Community Foundation continues mission

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —Nick Amezola has performed in many productions but he will debut his first time in the directors chair for a full-length musical production of White Christmas. Family Community Theatre will open the curtain at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Flag Theatre.

Amezola was a music director for a kids summer camp when he heard that White Christmas was in need of a director.&nbsp;

&nbsp;"And I was like, you know what, I would love to direct,"Amezola said. "And then they were just like, okay and then it was just kind of a very informal process."

White Christmas is based on the 1954 Paramount Pictures Film which was written for the screen by Norman Panama, Melvin Frank and Norman Krasna. Amezola said Family Community Theatre performed White Christmas a decade ago and received rights to showcase it again in 2023.&nbsp;

"It's a very popular movie," Amezola said. "Like it's been out for awhile and it is very different from the movie so I'm hoping people will get that nostalgic feel but also it's a whole new experience. So it's going to be funny. It's going to be some heart wrenching moments you know. All the above."&nbsp;&nbsp;

There are 36 total cast members which includes the ensemble. The four lead characters are Bob Wallace, Phil Davis, Betty Haynes and Judy Haynes. Nilo Reynoso and Nicholas Amezola will be the male leads and Keeley Coon/Savanna Burt and Catherine Vessey will be the female leads.&nbsp;

"Well White Christmas is about a duo, Bob and Phil who come across&nbsp; these two sisters from a friend they knew back in the Army and then Phil and Judy who is one of the sisters, end up really hitting it off," Amezola said. "And they want to get Bob and other sister Betty together so they come up with this whole plot to go with the sisters to Vermont&nbsp;to their general from the war. The general, he owns an Inn so they go up to Vermont and find out that the general is in a bit of financial trouble so they end up trying to put on a show there to get him out of it."&nbsp;

Amezola said there are quite a few musical numbers throughout the show. He said folks may recognize the tune White Christmas that was written by Irving Berlin.&nbsp;

"There's like Best Things Happen While You're Dancing, there's Snow but that's sung by the whole cast rather than just the four leads in the movie," Amezola said.&nbsp;

The cast will perform at the same tomorrow night and on Sunday at 3 p.m. Next week, Family Community Theatre will host three more nights of White Christmas. The curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30-Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for children and can be bought before the show. Tickets can also be bought <a href="https://www.etix.com/ticket/o/4795">online</a>. Season passes can be used for admission.

White Christmas to take Flag Theatre stage

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The consensus of the Board of County Commissioners given to Public Works Director Don Brittain at Wednesday's meeting regarding the county planning commission's solar regulations process is that large scale commercial solar should be completely off the table anywhere in Reno County and they may decide to make that statutorily clear at a later point. 

Small scale commercial solar, like the proposal from Ark Valley Electric for around 10 acres to serve its rural electric customers, needs additional study to see if it will have a negative effect on water quality and erosion in the county, but that's the size of project that might theoretically be allowed, if objections can be overcome.

Private solar for individual landowners, even at the scale of the small scale commercial projects, like might be needed for a large dairy operation or the like, needs continued scrutiny by the planning commission and those regulations need to come before county commissioners, with clear direction that the less that they can regulate private solar, the better, in the county commissioners opinion.

The commissioners stopped just short of extending the moratorium that is currently in effect through the end of the year, though enough questions were raised that they understand they won't be approving any projects for a while, at least.

The Planning Commission's next meeting to take up this direction is scheduled for Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the Public Works building at 600 Scott Boulevard in South Hutchinson.

Direction given by county commission to narrow solar regs scope

If baking is a work of the heart, then Charlene Patton and Sharon Davis have been the heartbeat of the Home Baking Association (HBA) for more than two decades. The pair were honored for their work to bring baking into the homes of families during the HBA’s recent annual meeting in Sunriver, Oregon, where the association also celebrated 100 years as an organization.&nbsp;

“It’s hard to imagine how many home bakers have been inspired or helped by Sharon Davis, Charlene Patton and the Home Baking Association,” said Cindy Falk, Kansas Wheat nutrition educator. “I’ve worked alongside these talented women since I joined Kansas Wheat in 1988, and we have shared our passion for baking with countless youth, educators and home bakers. Together we’ve provided baking demonstrations at the Kansas State Fair, test-baked and judged entries for the National Festival of Breads, promoted wheat products at national meetings, created baking videos and so much more. Thank you both for your years of dedication and vision.”&nbsp;

The HBA was started in 1923, originally as a group of soft wheat millers that produced self-rising flour and recognized they could make advancements better together. Today, the organization promotes increased home baking by providing tools and knowledge to perpetuate the love of baking by offering resources and curriculum to anyone who teaches or fosters baking skills. In 2023, the non-profit reached 8.7 million educators and consumers through the resources on its website and social media channels as well as virtual and hands-on workshops at state and national conferences.&nbsp;

“The HBA has a rich library of resources for anyone who is learning or teaching others to bake at school or home,” Falk said. “Staying true to the mission of sharing those resources with others for more than a century has instilled a love of baking in countless classrooms and homes — and Charlene Patton and Sharon Davis have been integral to that continued success.”&nbsp;

Davis joined the HBA in 1995 as a family and consumer science educator. Since then, she has made more than 500 presentations and written or co-written a substantial amount of printed and online teaching materials. Ranging from quick five-minute lessons to multi-week lesson plans, her lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations and videos have brought baking skills to homes, communities and classrooms from coast to coast.&nbsp;

“Sharon embodies the joy of baking,” Falk said. “She has a talent for making every presentation a celebration of everything that home baking is about — passing down baking skills from parents to children, creating memories and teaching useful life skills. It has been rewarding to watch her create memorable experiences while emphasizing the significant role baking plays in families.”&nbsp;

Patton started as the HBA executive director in 1997, leading the organization’s annual meetings, outside events, finances and other operations. She is also a regular presenter on home baking, appearing in-person, virtually, on video, in person and on television. In 2023, the non-profit reached 8.7 million educators and consumers through the resources on its website and social media channels as well as virtual and hands-on workshops at state and national conferences.&nbsp;“The HBA has a rich library of resources for anyone who is learning or teaching others to bake at school or home,” Falk said. “Staying true to the mission of sharing those resources with others for more than a century has instilled a love of baking in countless classrooms and homes — and Charlene Patton and Sharon Davis have been integral to that continued success.”&nbsp;Davis joined the HBA in 1995 as a family and consumer science educator. Since then, she has made more than 500 presentations and written or co-written a substantial amount of printed and online teaching materials. Ranging from quick five-minute lessons to multi-week lesson plans, her lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations and videos have brought baking skills to homes, communities and classrooms from coast to coast.&nbsp;“Sharon embodies the joy of baking,” Falk said. “She has a talent for making every presentation a celebration of everything that home baking is about — passing down baking skills from parents to children, creating memories and teaching useful life skills. It has been rewarding to watch her create memorable experiences while emphasizing the significant role baking plays in families.”&nbsp;Patton started as the HBA executive director in 1997, leading the organization’s annual meetings, outside events, finances and other operations. She is also a regular presenter on home baking, appearing in-person, virtually, on video, in person and on television. Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the 1300 block of East Avenue A on the north side. 

The building at 1326 E. Ave. A was built originally as the 4 S Razor Blade Factory in 1916. It was only able to stay viable until 1918. 

It was then that J.D. Conard, President of the Salt City Business College, had an innovative idea. He started the Hutchinson Auto and Tractor School there as a satellite campus. The first photo shows the architectural renderings for that endeavor. 

It was right next door to the Massey-Harris Manufacturing Plant that produced combines and tractors, so the two worked in tandem. The second photo shows the school with all its students and instructors out front in 1920. 

This endeavor only lasted until 1921, that's when Massey-Harris took over the building. Fast forward to 1970, that's when Martinez &amp; Sons Machine Shop took over the building. The third photo shows that business, which was there until 1993.

That's when Interfaith Housing purchased the building. The fourth photo shows the 1326 E. Ave. A building today, still the Interfaith Housing &amp; Community Services Inc. with Clint Nelson serving as President and Chief Executive Officer.

📷 Throwback Thursday: 1326 E. Ave. A - Vol. 45

Editor's Note: This is a repost of an article from earlier this month, just as a reminder to pet owners on the holiday.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Jon Austin, DVM with Hutchinson Small Animal Hospital is urging pet owners to continue their normal feeding schedule with their pets, even when bringing the family together for holiday gatherings, especially on Thanksgiving.

"It's definitely a holiday for us, not for them," Austin said. "It's just another day for them, or it should be, for their GI tract. Pets tend to get included in things. I know that, during that holiday, we're going to see some pets who got some gravy and who got some fat and who got some turkey and maybe one that got in the kitchen and knocked the turkey off the counter and got some bones and things. It's part of the holidays, as far as the veterinary perspective. It's something that we have to be concerned about."

High fat is not good for dogs, in particular.

"Their systems are not really designed to manage and handle the quantity of fat that is in the food that we eat," Austin said. "We see everything from bone problems, irritating the GI tract, to pancreatitis, which is a response by their body to the amount of fat that they consume, when they get into the gravy or the drippings from the turkey."

If your pet develops pancreatitis, that can need to be treated with the vet keeping your pet.

"It kind of depends on what's happening," Austin said. "If they do get pancreatitis, we have to avoid them using their GI tract, so they have to stay in the hospital for a few days and get everything through their vein. We put a catheter in and we take care of them intravenously. We avoid them eating or drinking anything because, every time they do that, that chemically stimulates the pancreas and that's what we're trying to heal and give a rest to. If they get a bone and are trying to pass it, we'll have them in and monitor."

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Families can visit the Youth Services department at the Hutchinson Public Library to make a custom cinnamon ornament, drink hot cocoa, and take a spin around the Scholastic Book Fair for holiday shopping the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 5. 

This is a come-and-go event, perfect for all ages. The event is from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Library at 901 North Main.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Gas prices in Kansas are somewhere they haven't been in several months.

"If you're heading out on a holiday trip, you definitely have something to be thankful for this year," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "Gas prices in Kansas are now under $3 a gallon, right at $2.99. It's the first time we've been sub $3 since this past January. We're down 39 cents in the past month and down 30 cents from where we were a year ago."

Kansas currently has the 12th lowest average gas price in the nation.

"Crude oil has been pretty stable," Steward said. "The last week or so, we're at the $77 range, in terms of the per barrel price of crude oil. There really hasn't been any volatility that we thought might happen with things happening in the Middle East."

Area counties are on either side of the state average as of Wednesday.

"Demand typically falls this time of year, with the exception of holiday travel weekends," Steward said. "As we get into colder months, the demand drops, because fewer people are out driving, especially as we get winter weather."

The Kansas average is generally 30 to 35 cents less than the national average this time of year.

"We have a tie vote in Langdon city, for the city council," said Reno County Deputy Elections Clerk Jenna Fager. "They each received three write in votes, and that was for Lathan Keener and Karen Fisher. Today, we do need to go ahead and break that tie."

The Board of Canvassers chose a coin toss to break the tie and they had Chaplain Richard Haley toss the coin. It came up heads, so Lathan Keener wins the city council seat.

Coin toss decides Langdon City Council race

STERLING, Kan. — The Sterling Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner in Sterling. 

The dinner will be served in the Sterling College Cafeteria, located in the Student Union Building on campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this time when Sterling College students who don't go home for the holidays and people who live alone have the opportunity to eat Thanksgiving dinner with others.

The meal will feature the traditions; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn, salads, relishes, bread, dessert and drinks. Guests who wish to do so may bring desserts and salads.

Although this meal is free of charge, the chamber does accept free will donations.&nbsp; They will also be collecting donations of canned and other goods (including soaps, detergents, cleaning items and paper products) for the area food banks.

Sterling Chamber sponsors Thanksgiving dinner

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —The night before Thanksgiving has developed a reputation for heavy alcohol consumption and binge drinking. Unfortunately, that trend isn’t isolated to the evening before the holiday.

"There seems to be a trend where, when people get back together during the holidays with family and friends that they haven't seen in awhile, people like to get out and celebrate and maybe hit the bars, or just have some celebration at home," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "We refer to it as Drinksgiving or Blackout Wednesday. Drinking is part of celebrations and unfortunately, drinking and driving has become an issue in a lot of places."

More than 830 people died nationwide in crashes involving a drunk driver over the Thanksgiving holiday period ― Wednesday through Sunday ― from 2017 to 2021, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"In Kansas, during the five day extended Thanksgiving holiday from 2017 to 2021, 27 people died in traffic crashes, including five that included alcohol impairment," Steward said. "Of the almost 3400 vehicle crashes overall that occurred during this period, 128 of those were alcohol-related."

Impaired driving also endangers the lives of law enforcement, tow truck operators, emergency response teams and others working at the side of the road.

"A lot of people think, oh, I'm just a little bit buzzed," Steward said. "Buzzed driving is drunk driving. You don't know exactly how impaired you are. Sometimes people's judgment is clouded by that alcohol and they think they are fine to drive, but in reality, they are over the limit, in terms of blood alcohol content. It's just safe, if you are going to be drinking, to make sure that somebody who is completely sober is going to be doing the driving."

AAA: Beware of 'Drinksgiving'

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — John Eberly with the Hutchinson Art Center notes that there are two exhibits going on at the center between now and Dec. 23. Some&nbsp;local artists will be featured for the next few weeks from TECH.

"We are bringing a wonderful exhibit from the TECH Client Art," Eberly said. "It will be on display from Nov. 20 to Dec. 23. That will be featured in our front gallery."

Also, a group from Wichita will have its work up after Thanksgiving.

"We're really excited," Eberly said. "We've got the Tallgrass Prairie Printmakers coming from Wichita. That's a group of hand-pulled prints and lithographs, linoleum cuts, wood relief prints, monoprints and more. They are based out of Mark Arts in Wichita and we're really excited to have those guys coming in."&nbsp;

The opening reception for the Tallgrass Prairie Printmakers exhibition will be held on Friday, Dec. 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Art Center. Admission to the reception is free.

The Executive Board outlined a clear path to create shareholder value along three priorities: Deliver on profitable growth, fix the wind business and maintain a solid financial foundation.

"We are achieving consistent and impressive results in 70% of our businesses. Those results show that our underlying strategic north star to become a leader in the energy transition is right. Our portfolio is excellently positioned, and our record order backlog of 112 billion Euros clearly demonstrates this. As a next step, we will accelerate profitable growth and execute our order backlog with improved margins and operational excellence. The turnaround of Siemens Gamesa remains our highest priority and we now have a defined path and action plan to reach break-even for the wind business in fiscal year 2026 and to return to profitability thereafter,” said Christian Bruch, President and CEO of Siemens Energy. The business areas Gas Services, Grid Technologies, and Transformation of Industry, which account for 70% of Siemens Energy’s revenue, are all on track to achieve or exceed their mid-term targets. Here, Siemens Energy benefits from strong market trends and its well positioned portfolio supporting customers with their decarbonization efforts. In these three business areas, Siemens Energy expects margins of 7-9% for Transformation of Industry (target upgraded), 9-11% for Grid Technologies (target upgraded) and 10-12% for Gas Services (target confirmed) by fiscal year 2026.

Global energy trends, like major grid investment and decarbonization, act as a catalyst for profitable growth across the entire Siemens Energy portfolio. The wind subsidiary Siemens Gamesa has suffered serious setbacks. These challenges overshadowed the solid performance of the other businesses. With a clearly defined action plan based on simplifying the product portfolio, optimizing footprint and operations, and strengthening processes and control, the wind business will be fixed, and reach break-even in 2026.

The technical review in onshore has identified the deficiencies with high impacts in the onshore business and remediation actions are under preparation. Siemens Gamesa will be focusing its onshore business based on specific criteria, such as supportive regulations and policies and, sizeable profit pools resulting in an optimized footprint. In offshore, Siemens Gamesa is ramping up production capacity at existing factories to meet customer demand and work through the order backlog. Strengthening operational excellence through plant-specific initiatives, commercial selectivity and implementing cost-saving measures, will increase profitability. Siemens Gamesa expects to achieve break-even by fiscal year 2026 followed by profitable growth.

Siemens Energy outlines plans at Capital Market Day Tuesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas State Fair Board on Tuesday talked to their legal counsel and after their advice, decided that it would be best to hold off a decision on any potential racetrack proposals until their January meeting.

Answers had yet to come from the Department of Administration on whether a full-year track proposal like the one laid out by Phil Nightingale would require a formal RFP process.&nbsp;

While they await those answers, they want to learn more about what the proposal with Mel Hambleton Ford in charge might look like, so Nightingale and Save Our Track leader William Nusser will be serving on a committee during December. 

The commitee is to be chaired by Fair Board member Dylan Evans and to include Fair Board members John Leslie and Bob Atkisson representing the board and Fair Board member Kayla Savage serving in her capacity with the Department of Commerce. 

Also, there are plans to ask a member of the Chamber or CVB to serve and to have a member from the Hutchinson City Council.

Those committee meetings will be public. Evans asked that in light of the Christmas holiday, that the committee not meet between Dec. 16 and Dec. 26.

The intent is for that committee to come back with a report for the board on Jan. 9, 2024 and for a decision to be made then.

There are issues that waiting until January creates. Sanctioning bodies want to be able to give racers an idea of which tracks will be racing when and so they usually try to get deals for the next spring done the previous fall or winter.

If the Department of Administration decides that there needs to be a lengthy RFP period of 30 or 60 days, depending on when they let the Fair Board's lawyers know, that could make it impossible to race in the spring, not to mention giving the Fair Board more potential proposals to need to look through.&nbsp; 

Also, there are still the five wall panels that need to be replaced and the dirt work that needs to be done on the track itself that now likely can't happen until the ground thaws out, presuming we have freezing weather between now and the Jan. 9 meeting.

 </figure>NICK GOSNELL Hutch PostHUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas State Fair Board on Tuesday talked to their legal counsel and after their advice, decided that it would be best to hold off a decision on any potential racetrack proposals until their January meeting.Answers had yet to come from the Department of Administration on whether a full-year track proposal like the one laid out by Phil Nightingale would require a formal RFP process.&nbsp;While they await those answers, they want to learn more about what the proposal with Mel Hambleton Ford in charge might look like, so Nightingale and Save Our Track leader William Nusser will be serving on a committee during December. The commitee is to be chaired by Fair Board member Dylan Evans and to include Fair Board members John Leslie and Bob Atkisson representing the board and Fair Board member Kayla Savage serving in her capacity with the Department of Commerce. Also, there are plans to ask a member of the Chamber or CVB to serve and to have a member from the Hutchinson City Council.Those committee meetings will be public. Evans asked that in light of the Christmas holiday, that the committee not meet between Dec. 16 and Dec. 26.The intent is for that committee to come back with a report for the board on Jan. 9, 2024 and for a decision to be made then.There are issues that waiting until January creates. Racetrack committee created, decision to come in January

TOPEKA, Kan. — Governor Laura Kelly today announced seven Kansas communities, including Hutchinson and Newton, will receive a combined total of $1.47 million through the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grants program. The funds go toward projects that improve safety and prevent deaths and serious injuries on local roadways.

State funding provided by a Kansas SS4A Match Pilot Program will contribute to the local match as required of grant recipients.

“No one can better pinpoint a community’s safety needs than the people who actually live and work there,”&nbsp;Governor Laura Kelly said. “I commend these local governments for leveraging federal and state funding to create safety plans for city streets and county roads.”

Administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Safe Streets and Roads for All is a five-year, $5 billion competitive grant program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. SS4A plans emphasize responsible driving, safer roadway designs, appropriate speed-limit settings, and improved post-crash care, among other strategies.

Kansas’ largest SS4A grant ($360,000) went to Chautauqua and Elk counties as a joint application. Next was the City of Newton, collaborating with Harvey County ($320,000). Other recipients are Shawnee County and the cities of El Dorado, Eureka, Hutchinson, and Russell. Hutchinson's award was for $160,000.

“Local commitment and regional collaboration were instrumental in bringing Safe Streets and Roads for All funds to Kansas,”&nbsp;Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed said. “KDOT’s help with local matching funds is indicative of the importance the agency places on safety and our long-term goal of reaching zero roadway fatalities.”

The SS4A program is structured so the federal government covers 80% of the planning and demonstration grant costs, and the local government covers 20%. KDOT agreed to cover part or all the local matching funds to encourage participation in this program. To have the full 20% covered by KDOT, an agency had to represent a rural area of the state.

This is the second group of Kansas communities to receive SS4A funding. In February of this year, 12 Kansas communities received a combined total of nearly $5 million, with KDOT contributing to the local match. 

The USDOT expects to announce additional FY23 awards in December.

Hutchinson, Newton, Harvey County among SS4A recipients

TOPEKA, Kan. — This morning, the Kansas Corporation Commission approved a proposed settlement agreement in the Evergy rate case. The unanimous agreement, resolving all issues in the case, was submitted to the Commission on September 29 following negotiations between KCC staff, Evergy, the Citizens Utility Ratepayer Board, and a variety of groups representing commercial, educational, and environmental interests. &nbsp;

In its Application, Evergy sought a net revenue increase of $204 million (9.77% increase) for Evergy Kansas Central (formerly Westar) and a net revenue increase of $14 million (1.95% increase) for Evergy Kansas Metro (formerly KCP&amp;L).&nbsp; Under the approved settlement agreement, Evergy Kansas Central will receive a net revenue increase of $74 million (3.54% increase), and Evergy Kansas Metro will receive a net revenue decrease of $32.9 million (4.53% decrease).

The average monthly impact to residential customers will be an increase of $4.64 per month for Evergy Kansas Central customers and a decrease of $6.07 per month for Evergy Metro customers. The new rates will take effect based on the customer billing cycle date beginning December 21, 2023.

Today’s order states, “The Commission finds the agreed-upon rates will provide Evergy sufficient revenue to meet its financial obligations and provide safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates to its customers.&nbsp; After considering all of the terms of the Unanimous Settlement Agreement, the Commission finds it is in the public interest.”

The settlement agreement also states Evergy may file an abbreviated rate case within 12 months of the current order to update rates to include Panasonic related distribution investment, Wolf Creek Decommissioning Trust adjustment, and investment in a new renewable generating resource to address 2024-2026 resource adequacy requirements supported by Evergy’s Integrated Resource Plan.

The Commission received comments from ratepayers at three public hearings held in July. In addition, the Commission also received 3,915 public comments through its Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection. The Commission noted that today’s decision was issued with due consideration of those comments.

Commissioners also considered the extensive evidentiary record in the docket including testimony from 57 witnesses, approximately 1,000 data requests, the joint motion in support of the settlement agreement and related testimony filed by parties in the docket. Having reviewed the record as a whole, the Commission finds the settlement agreement is supported by substantial, competent evidence.

KCC approves Evergy rate settlement

Before his move to Colorado, Benjamin served as CEO of Kearny County Hospital, a comprehensive rural health care delivery facility in Lakin, Kan. that serves patients of 30 nationalities within a 180-mile radius. During his six and a half years there, he led the organization through a period of rapid growth, expanding patient access to coordinated primary care and&nbsp;specialty services.

New CEO hired at Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson City Council member Steve Garza is hosting another Saturday event this weekend.

"I will have one of my meetings on the 25th at 9 a.m. over at The Zone." Garza said. "It's at 805 East Avenue B. Please come out and sit down and talk to me and the other officials that's going to be there."

The idea is that for people who aren't available during the week to come to the regular meetings, that they can still find out what's going on in the city.

"There's coffee and donuts there," Garza said. "We sit down and talk about what's going on. We'll tell you what's going on in the city of Hutch. I know it's after Thanksgiving, but you know, people call me and ask me when we're going to have the next one. They want them. A lot of it is from citizens that call me. Please come out and see how it's done."
