HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Buhler USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman gave Hutch Post an update on the construction the district has gotten done over the summer.
"We are so excited," Couchman said. "We've been working on remodeling really three different facilities. Two daycare opportunities are going to be completed by August 31st, we're so pumped about that. In fact, one of them is gonna, I'm doing the punch list walkthrough today on two of them, and that is our daycare at Buhler Grade School. Simpson Construction has hit every deadline, kudos to them for making that happen. So Buhler Grade School, I'm gonna do the punch list walkthrough today, and if you don't know what that is, that's where you would do the final walkthrough and say, that paint needs to be fixed, we don't like this, can you fix that? And then Ad Astra, our Ad Astra Academies, that serves our virtual and alternative students, we remodeled a building, and it is also ready to open, I'm walking through that this morning also. The Crusader Corner, which is our bigger daycare that's on the corner of 56th and Plum Street, it is going to be wrapped up by August 31st. It's a little bit behind, we ran into some construction issues there with well and ramps and different things, and yet they're still hitting our deadline of the end of August."
It will still take a little bit for those daycares to open.
"We don't look to open those two daycares though, until probably mid-September due to licensing, training of staff, and finishing up our hiring," Couchman said. "But those three buildings, we can't wait to show them to the public. We will have a community open house on all three of them, when we can do sort of all three at the same evening. So we'll look for that to be maybe mid to late September, and we will push some advertisement out on that, so we can get our community in to look at our three beautiful new remodels."
They are still hiring for daycare workers, as well.
"We've got, I think, three or four already at Buhler Grade, and I think we're up to seven at Crusader Corner. We have two different daycares that we're hiring for, Buhler Beginnings, and that's at Buhler, and Crusader Corner, that's here in Hutch, and we are still hiring. I know that she's interviewing. We will keep pushing that advertisement out for hires. So if you're interested, we have all kinds of hours, opportunities, from midday to early day to eight hours to part-time. We have all kinds of opportunities at those two facilities. It comes with benefits and KPERS, and there's some great opportunities for people out there that are looking just to care for kids. I can't think of anything better than rocking babies all day."
