<img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/12/1575648108766.jpeg">HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Boys &amp; Girls Club of Hutchinson announced Friday that Jenna Lightsey has been named the 2020 Youth of the Year. As the local Youth of the Year, Jenna will serve as an ambassador for all teens in the local club, receive a $1,000 college scholarship thanks to Heartland Credit Union, and will go on to compete in the state Youth of the Year competition. Jenna is a senior at Hutchinson High School. She has been a club member for 11 years and works as a Vision Leader at the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs. She is currently studying for her CNA and CMA licenses and plans to become an elementary school teacher. Jenna believes everyone should have the chance to be successful and happy. “Being named Youth of the Year is a lifelong honor,” Chief Professional Officer Skip Wilson said. “As the Hutchinson Youth of the Year, Jenna will serve as an ambassador and role model for our young people, sharing her inspiring story and leading the way to transform our club and community for the better.” D’Naeya Gray, Sadye Patterson and Catelyn Washington were each named as runners-up. Jose Ledezma, a freshman at Hutchinson High School, was recognized as the Junior Youth of the Year.

Volunteers with the organization — with the help of several local businesses and <a href="http://www.khmyfm.com/default.asp?sec_id=1053">My 93-1</a> — will host a Stuff the Bus campaign at Dillons Marketplace. The event begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 5:30 p.m.&nbsp; Those wishing to donate can get a list of items needed most from one of the volunteers Saturday. Cash and Dillons gift cards can also be donated. All proceeds and items donated go to BrightHouse, which provides shelter and programs to benefit victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Hutch Symphony Christmas Concert Thursday

The Reno County Farmers Market is teaming up with the Arlington Farm and Art Market and the The Wool Market &amp; DIY School. For the first three Saturdays of December, and the third Saturday of every month this winter, there will be a winter wonderland featuring the homegrown and homemade. These markets will be indoors and start a little later than the traditional Saturday markets — running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the The Wool Market at 420 N. Main in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Dates this month include Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec 21. Then the market will be held next year on the third Saturday of each month through April.&nbsp;

STERLING, Kan. — Residents of Sterling and the surrounding area are invited to a Holiday Open House at Sterling Village, 204 W. Washington. The special event is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, when Santa will pay a visit. A Christmas Giving Tree will also be available. “We will serve delicious holiday refreshments and welcome people of all ages,” Lisa Valentine, Sterling Village community liaison, said. “And Santa is eager to make his appearance. He will visit with participants and be available for photos.” In addition, tours of the long-term care residence will be available on request. “We hope that our guests will take special note of the Christmas Giving Tree,” Valentine commented. “We encourage visitors to take a giving tag from the tree and become a Secret Santa to one of our elders. It is the perfect way to celebrate the true meaning of the season. “It is also an opportunity to mingle with our staff and other members of the community in caring fellowship. We hope the community can share the joy of Christmas with their friends and neighbors at our open house.” Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by Friday, Dec. 13. Officials say this is always a great day to inspire and witness Buhler’s community spirit while celebrating Giving Tuesday philanthropy. Donations to Fund for Buhler will multiply on Match Day. The community foundation will match up to $15,000 in gifts to the Fund for Buhler, the foundation’s unrestricted grant-making fund. Money and assets given to the community foundation are invested and the earnings from the investments are returned to the community each year in the form of grants. Last year’s Match Day drew 49 donors who gave more than $23,000. Four funds will be accepting donations on Tuesday: Fund for BuhlerBuhler Public Health FundSunshine Meadows Retirement Community Endowment FundBuhler USD 313 Educational Endowment Fund Donations must be made from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Mustard Seed, 214 N. Main St., or Sunny’s Café, 400 S. Buhler Rd. Participants may enjoy a free treat when they give. Checks must be made payable to Buhler Community Foundation. Donations to the Fund for Buhler will be matched dollar-for-dollar while matching funds last. A form will be available at both locations to indicate which endowment(s) will benefit.
