United Way opens applications for second annual Spark Tank Live funding competition
HUTCHINSON — United Way of Reno County is accepting applications for the second annual Spark Tank Live, a live pitch competition that will award more than $25,000 to local nonprofit organizations with innovative ideas to strengthen the community.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, at the 1861 Club in Hutchinson and will give eligible nonprofits an opportunity to present community-focused solutions before a live audience for a chance to receive grant funding.
This year's competition will focus on programs that support ALICE households — families and individuals who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Organizers are seeking proposals for upstream programs and solutions that reduce barriers to long-term financial stability.
To be eligible, nonprofit organizations must operate programming in Reno County, align with United Way of Reno County's focus areas and demonstrate measurable outcomes related to reducing the number of ALICE households in the community.
"Spark Tank Live allows United Way to invest in innovative programs beyond our long-standing partner network while introducing our community to organizations doing incredible work every day," United Way of Reno County CEO Lacey Mills said. "By giving these nonprofits a platform to share their vision, we're creating new opportunities for collaboration, expanding awareness of local resources, and investing in solutions that will strengthen Reno County for years to come."
United Way also recognized the businesses supporting this year's event. Sponsors include Presenting Sponsor ProValue Insurance, Illuminating Sponsor Hutchinson Clinic, and Spark Sponsors First National Bank of Hutchinson, Kraft Electric and Oâ‚‚ Box Midwest. The organization said the sponsorships help fund the awards while elevating the work of local nonprofits serving the community.
