UNDATED (AP) — Red Sox manager Alex Cora says catcher Kevin Plawecki tested positive for COVID-19 along with two staff members. Cora said the 31-year-old Plawecki is vaccinated. He was placed on the COVID-19 related injured list and the team called up catcher Conner Wong from Triple-A Worcester.

Cora didn't want to elaborate whom the staff members were, but said it wasn't any coaches.

— Infielder Jed Lowrie and relievers A.J. Puk and Lou Trivino were among six players added to the COVID-19 injured list by the Oakand Athletics before their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles. Reliever Kirby Snead, infielder Chad Pinder and catcher Austin Allen also were put on the COVID-19 IL and joined outfielder Scott Piscotty, placed on the list on Friday.

UNDATED (AP) — The Cleveland Browns have spoken to an NFL investigator looking into claims by former coach Hue Jackson, who said the team intentionally lost games in 2016 and 2017.

Jackson, now coaching at Grambling State, indicated in a series of posts on social media that the Browns paid him bonuses incentivizing him to lose. Jackson later softened those claims. The Browns went 1-15 in 2016 and 0-16 in 2017 under Jackson. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed the league engaged former SEC chair Mary Jo White to look into Jackson's allegations. The team said it welcomed the chance to address Jackson's claims.

— A person familiar with the negotiations tells AP that Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward has agreed to a five-year, $100.5 million contract extension with the Cleveland Browns. Wildcats knock off Shockers in baseball Monday

NEWTON – Posting the second-best single round on a Par 72 course in team history on Monday afternoon, the Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team built a 29-stroke lead after 36 holes of the 54-hole Jayhawk Conference Championship at Sand Creek Station.

The No 4-ranked Blue Dragons will look to clinch a third-straight Jayhawk Conference men’s golf championship in Tuesday’s final round, which will be a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start at Sand Creek Station.

The Blue Dragons posted rounds of 287 and 272 on Monday to shoot a 17-under 561 after 36 holes. Dodge City is second at 14-over 590. Garden City is third at 17-over 593.

Entering the Jayhawk Championship, Hutchinson and Dodge City were tied for the season conference lead with 15 points each.

The 272 team score in the second round on Monday was the second-best round on a Par-72 course in team history. Only the 270 team score posted at the 2020 NJCAA National Preview at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas, topped Monday’s second round.

All-Americans Harry Crockett and Ben Partridge shot rounds of 65 and 67, respectively, to lead the Blue Dragons in the second round. Sophomore Addison Alonzo and freshman Dominic Clemmons both carded 70s. Those four golfers combined for 20 birdies and only four bogeys in the second round.

Led by Crockett’s 69 in the first round on Monday, the Blue Dragons opened a 10-stroke lead over Dodge City after 18 holes.

All five Blue Dragon players are in the Top 10 of the individual standings through two rounds.

After shooting 10-under 134 on Monday, Crockett is the individual leader through 36 holes with a five-stroke lead on the field. Crockett had a 14 pars, one eagle, two birdies and a bogey in his opening-round 69. Crockett, the 2021 individual national runner-up, had nine pars, eight birdies and one bogey in his second-round 65.

Partridge is second at 5-under 139. The defending national individual champion had 14 pars, an eagle, one birdie and two bogeys in an even-par 72. Partridge had six birdies and one bogey in his afternoon-round 67.

Partridge is the individual conference season leader with 17 points. Crockett is fourth with 10 points.

Alonzo is fifth at 1-under 143 (73-70). Clemons is tied for seventh at 3-over 147 after rounds of 77 and a season-low 70.

Reddick was chasing the first Cup win of his career. He led 99 of the 250 laps. and controlled the race from the final restart with 24 laps remaining. But lapped traffic allowed Briscoe to close in on Reddick and he timed his move for the win for the third turn, when Briscoe tried to slide his way past Reddick on the inside.

Reddick finished second and faulted himself for not holding off Briscoe.

Joey Logano was third, followed by Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Jordan Spieth (speeth) used a marvelous approach shot on the first playoff hole to beat Patrick Cantlay and win the PGA's RBC Heritage.

Another soft dribbler to the pitcher from Kevin Merrell allowed him to beat out the throw to allow Chris Williams to score once again to extend the lead to 4-1in the top of the 7th inning. Matt Wallner hit a 411-foot solo home run in the top of the 8th to extend the lead to 5-1 in the top of the 8th.

The Wichita bullpen had another impressive outing pitching 5.1 innings and allowing zero runs and 8 strikeouts.

The 55-year-old Manning guided the Terrapins to a 15-17 finish after taking over for Mark Turgeon in December. Manning was 78-111 as Wake Forest’s coach from 2014-2020 and 38-29 with Tulsa from 2012-14 after working as a Kansas assistant the previous six seasons. 

Manning led Kansas to the 1988 NCAA championship as a two-time All-American before becoming the No. 1 overall selection in the NBA draft. He scored 12,367 points in 15 NBA seasons with seven teams and earned All-Star honors in 1993 and ’94 along with the Sixth Man of the Year award in 1998.
