GENEVA (AP) — Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter says picking Qatar to host the World Cup was a mistake 12 years ago. Blatter led FIFA at the time of the vote and says soccer and the World Cup are too big for a country as small as Qatar. He repeated his claim that key votes for Qatar were swayed by a 2010 meeting in Paris between then-French president Nicolas Sarkozy and FIFA vice president Michel Platini. The 86-year-old Blatter spoke with a Swiss newspaper group. It was his first major interview since being acquitted with Platini in July of financial misconduct at FIFA.

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– After combining for 334 yards of offense on Saturday, sophomore Devin Neal has been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Neal rushed for 224 yards and had 110 yards through the air in Kansas’ 37-16 victory over No. 18 Oklahoma State. Neal became the first Jayhawk in school history with 200+ rushing yards and 100+ receiving yards in a game, while his 334 combined yards are the most since 1991, when Tony Sands combined for 398 yards (396 rush, 2 receiving) against Missouri.

From Lawrence, Kansas, Neal rushed a career-high 32 times for 224 yards, including a 31 yard rushing touchdown against Oklahoma State. Neal added six receptions for 110 yards through the air.

Neal’s Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor is the second of the season for the Jayhawks, after Jalon Daniels was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19. Kansas now has two Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in school history.

Kansas’ Lonnie Phelps was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5, followed by Cobee Bryant being named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12.

Kansas’ 37-16 win over No. 18 Oklahoma State made the Jayhawks bowl eligible for the first time since 2008, while it was the Jayhawks’ first win over a ranked opponent since 2010 (Georgia Tech).

Kansas (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 12 when they take on Texas Tech (4-5, 2-4 Big 12) in Lubbock. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT.

The Hutchinson Community College football team remains No. 1 in the latest NJCAA Division I national rankings, which were released Monday. It's the fifth week in a row the Blue Dragons are ranked at the top of the poll.

The Blue Dragons solidified a third straight Jayhawk conference championship by defeating Independence 53-0 Saturday, setting up a regular season finale road test in Council Bluffs, Iowa this Saturday against Iowa Western, who lost to Coffeyville 23-7 last week, earned its first loss of the season and dropped to No. 4 in this week's rankings.

Hutchinson travels to Iowa Western for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Iowa Western's loss allowed Northwest Mississippi to climb to No. 2 and Trinity Valley to No. 3. Northwest Mississippi is in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference playoff title game against now No. 12 East Mississippi. Trinity Valley won the Southwest Junior College Football Conference regular season title and is the one seed in the conference playoffs. The Cardinals will play Kilgore, who is now No. 15, this Saturday in the conference semis.

Snow College, the 2021 national runner-up, remained on the outside looking in at No. 5 with Coffeyville making the jump from No. 8 to No. 6.

Butler came in at No. 13 and Garden City received votes.

The Blue Dragons came in at No. 5 in the first week of the national poll, which was released Monday. The Blue Dragons are 3-0 to start the season.

The last time the Blue Dragon women were ranked in the top 5 was back in February 2020 when they were No. 5.&nbsp;

 🏀 Blue Dragon Women in top 5 of week 1 NJCAA rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are willing to do whatever it takes to win a game. And that includes bailing entirely on the run game and having Mahomes air it out nearly 70 times. It worked on Sunday night, when the Chiefs rallied from 17-9 deficit in the fourth quarter and escaped with a 20-17 victory in overtime. But the reason Mahomes threw the ball nearly 70 times was that they almost entirely abandoned the run. He had six carries for 63 yards on scrambles, but the rest of the Chiefs ran 13 times for 14 yards. Chiefs coach Andy Reid knows his QB will need more help going forward.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Kenyan Drake rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Houston had an interception to go with his third straight multiple-sack game, and the Baltimore Ravens beat the New Orleans Saints 27-13. Lamar Jackson passed for a touchdown and frustrated New Orleans with his mobility, rushing for 82 yards and exhibiting an array of jump cuts and spin moves. Baltimore won its third straight and remained atop the AFC North at 6-3, one game ahead of Cincinnati. The Saints fell to 3-6 and were outclassed by a Baltimore team missing several offensive starters. The Ravens converted 9 of 15 third downs.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have hired former All-Pro center Jeff Saturday as interim coach after firing coach Frank Reich. And that includes bailing entirely on the run game and having Mahomes air it out nearly 70 times. They're seeing things good in drill work but when it's happening on the floor, they're maybe not seeing it as quick as they need to. I do think that in the first half they were getting us pretty deep in the first and second quarter so they were getting a lot of step through moves, a lot of getting to the foul line. We talked about stopping them earlier, you look at the shooting percentage in the second half for Central Arkansas, that's where I thought the biggest improvement came." On his 600th career win… "I'm competitive. Honestly, when I first got into coaching I wanted to win every game, I kind of couldn't figure out when it would be okay to lose. You're in it long enough that you lose some and you win some but I do take pride in the fact that during my career, my assistant coaches, the players that we've recruited have all rallied to have good seasons and play in the postseason. We're not like baseball where they count everything, but I think as you are in the profession longer you learn to appreciate it a little bit more. I've really enjoyed my time here at K State. I've really enjoyed the fan base here. I was actually excited that it was a doubleheader opportunity because I just felt like for our players to play the first game where they might have some fans here that don't normally see a women's basketball game, that it would be fun for them to have the student crowd that was here the second half and even the ones that showed up for the first. That really didn't have anything to do with the 600 but it had to do with their first game. For me, I'm just glad it's over with." Freshman Gradey Dick led KU with 23 points in his first career game, while redshirt junior Jalen Wilson posted a double-double with 19 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and a career-high seven assists in the victory.

Kansas also held a 43-28 edge on rebounds over the Mavericks, which included 16 offensive rebounds. Sophomore KJ Adams Jr. had a career-high nine rebounds, eight of which were offensive rebounds.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes was probably having flashbacks Sunday night to his days at Texas Tech, when he would scramble around like a kid playing sandlot football while routinely throwing the ball 60-plus times in a game.

The Chiefs needed all of it — every run, every throw, every yard — to rally past the Tennessee Titans.

Mahomes finished 43 of 68 for 446 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for the tying score and 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter, before Harrison Butker atoned for two earlier misses by drilling the go-ahead field goal in overtime and lifting the Chiefs to the 20-17 victory.

“I did not know I threw that many,” Mahomes said with a smile, “but yeah, Texas Tech, I threw a couple, so I'm able to do it.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid improved to 21-3 coming off a bye by beating a franchise that has long been his nemesis. He was just 2-9 against the Titans — heck, Reid has three wins against the Chiefs — including a 27-3 loss in Nashville last year.

It was only the second win for Kansas City (6-2) in its last seven games against the Titans.

“You have to be able to win a game like that," Reid said, “where everything isn't just perfect, and your emotions are up and down and you have to fight through. We were so close on so many plays. Step up and let's go.”

Things were spiraling toward another disappointment the way Derrick Henry was chewing up yardage against the Kansas City defense, and the way the Titans (5-3) were shutting down Mahomes and Co. into the fourth quarter.

Indeed, the Chiefs were trailing 17-9 and time was running out when they took over at their own 7-yard line. But in vintage Mahomes fashion, he willed his team downfield. His 20-yard scramble on third-and-17 kept the drive going, and his third-and-9 touchdown scramble along with his 2-point conversion run knotted the game with 2:56 to go.

After the Chiefs won the overtime coin toss, the Titans nearly stopped them, only for Noah Gray to make a nifty third-down catch. Then, Mahomes hit JuJu Smith-Schuster on fourth down to keep the drive alive — and the clock moving.

Butker drilled his 28-yarder to give Kansas City the lead with 4:04 left in overtime.

The Chiefs proceeded to stuff Henry, then sacked Titans rookie Malik Willis on back-to-back plays, before batting down his fourth-down throw to end the game and send fireworks flying into the sky above Arrowhead Stadium.

“When you get to those end of the game situations,” Mahomes said, “you have to try to go out there and make it happen.”

Henry finished with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Titans. But he didn't get a whole lot of help from Willis, who got his second start in place of the injured Ryan Tannehill, and was just 5 of 16 for 80 yards.

“I'm very disappointed. I feel terrible for the players,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel said. “They compete, and put so much into this, and play through pain and discomfort and any situation. I'm lucky to coach them. They fight.”

The Chiefs figured the best way to shut down Henry, who had run for 219 yards and two touchdowns last week against Houston, was to keep him off the field. They opened the game with a 15-play march that took up 8 1/2 minutes and ended in a field goal, then forced a punt and went 79 yards with Mahomes finding Hardman for the touchdown.

All told, the Chiefs held the ball nearly 13 of the 15 minutes in the first quarter.

The Titans finally got going in the second, and it was Willis using his legs to get Kansas City off balance. The fleet-footed rookie twice scrambled for good yardage before Henry turned a direct snap into a 4-yard TD run.

After forcing a punt, Henry went to work again. He slipped through the line untouched and was finally dragged down 56 yards later. Then, the 247-pound running back pounded into the end zone to give the Titans a 14-9 lead.

It was Henry's 74th career touchdown run, moving him past Earl Campbell for the most in franchise history.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, were incapable of running the ball. And with the Titans no longer worried about stopping the rush, they began to relentlessly pressure Mahomes. Denico Autry's first sack forced a punt, then his second on third-and-1 near midfield prevented Kansas City from getting points just before halftime.

The Titans eventually extended the lead when Mahomes was picked off by rookie Roger McCreary, setting up Randy Bullock's 44-yard field goal. But their own offense started to fizzle, and despite Butker's missed field goal — he also missed an earlier extra point — the Chiefs managed to get the late touchdown they needed to force overtime.

“It was a struggle,” Reid said. “We were up and down and the guys hung together.”

Tannehill was limited in practice Wednesday and Friday but did not practice at all Thursday and was questionable for the game. He tried warming up but never planted his ailing ankle before walking off the field with Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel about two hours before kickoff. He was made inactive 30 minutes later.

Titans: FS Josh Thompson left in the second half with a knee injury. LB Bud Dupree left with a hip injury.

Chiefs: CB Jaylen Watson landed awkwardly on his neck in the first half, though he eventually returned to the game.

The Titans return home to face Denver on Sunday.

(AP) — The Jets’ defense shut down Josh Allen, Zach Wilson threw a touchdown pass and Greg Zuerlein kicked a go-ahead 28-yard field goal with 1:43 remaining to lift the New York Jets to a stunning 20-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Allen got the ball with a chance to tie or win but couldn’t manage much against the Jets. His deep desperation pass to Gabe Davis was knocked away by rookie Sauce Gardner. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Bill Self will be forced to watch the fifth-ranked Jayhawks open the season against Omaha from afar on Monday night. Self and assistant Kurtis Townsend will be serving the first in a four-game suspension handed down by the school as part of an ongoing NCAA infractions case for nearly six years with no end in sight. Norm Roberts, a longtime Kansas assistant who also was the head coach at St. John's, will be the acting head coach. 🏈 Second-half comeback falls short as No. 24 Texas upends No. 13 K-State

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The Kansas Jayhawks became bowl eligible for the first time since 2008 with a 37-16 win over No. 18 Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at David Booth Memorial Stadium.&nbsp;The win is Kansas’ first against a ranked opponent since 2010, breaking a streak of 44-straight losses to ranked teams.&nbsp;

An excited Lawrence crowd of 43,306 saw Kansas improve to 6-3 and 3-3 in the Big 12, making Kansas bowl eligible for a possible 13th appearance in a bowl game in program history. Oklahoma State also dropped to 6-3 and 3-3 in the Big 12. The win over the Cowboys was the first victory by the Jayhawks over a ranked opponent at home since 2005.

Running back Devin Neal rushed for 224 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries, while adding 110 receiving yards on six catches. He became the first player in program history to rush for 200+ yards and have 100+ receiving yards in the same game. He is just the third Power 5 player since 1996 to have at least 220 rushing yards and 110 receiving yards in the same game.

"“I’m so happy for the guys that have been through a lot during their time. To see the locker room the way it is celebrating and so happy and for all the times it’s been tough…It says a lot about them. On Oklahoma State’s first drive of the game, the Cowboys pushed the ball down the field 40 yards, however, cornerback Cobee Bryant, who missed the team’s most recent game against Baylor with an injury, intercepted a Cowboy pass to give the Jayhawks the ball on the Kansas 27 yard-line.

The Jayhawks didn’t waste any time getting into the endzone on their first drive. Led by Quarterback Jason Bean, Kansas went 73 yards on four plays in 1:32 to get on the scoreboard first. Neal ran for 55 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown rush into the right side of the endzone.&nbsp;

“Devin made a lot of plays in the passing and running game,” Leipold said. “It was the most physical he ran, as well. We’re going to need that.”

OSU started their second drive on their own 25 yard line, however, an interception by cornerback Ra’Mello Dotson ended the short drive. Dotson intercepted the ball at the Kansas 32-yard line and returned it 13 yards to put the Jayhawks on their own 45 yard line. The interception was Dotson’s second of the season. Nearing the end of the first quarter, the Jayhawks pushed the ball down the field 76 yards on 16 plays with the drive being capped with a 21-yard field goal by kicker Jacob Borcila.&nbsp;

The Jayhawk defense was able to keep Oklahoma State shutout in the first quarter, but the Cowboys were able to get their first score of the game in the second quarter. The Jayhawks, however, responded fast with a 49 second scoring drive. Bean rushed for a career-high 73 yards up the left side of the field for a Kansas touchdown.&nbsp;

Kansas ended a 47-yard OSU drive, with a fumble recovery by Lorenzo McCaskill. Kansas took advantage and responded with an 87-yard scoring drive. Lawrence Arnold caught an 8-yard pass from Bean in the left corner of the endzone over an OSU defender.&nbsp;

Jared Casey caught the first touchdown of the second half on a 2-yard pass in the back of the end zone from Bean.&nbsp;The score capped a fifteen-play, 75-yard drive that took 7:08 off the clock.&nbsp;

Oklahoma State responded with an 11-play, 54-yard drive that concluded with a 35 yard field goal. Kansas followed with a field goal off a 72-yard drive that was capped with a 20-yard kick of its own. The Cowboys were able to capitalize on a 10-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown.&nbsp;

The Cowboys remained scoreless for the rest of the game, while Kansas recorded another 3 points off a 31-yard field goal by&nbsp;Borcila. The Jayhawks tallied their third interception from Rich Miller, who returned it 34 yards to ice the game.

Bean finished 18 for 23 for 203 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Receiver Luke Grimm established a new career high with seven catches for 65 yards. Kenny Logan Jr., led the Jayhawks with eight tackles. Jereme Robinson finished with two tackles-for-loss, while Bryant had an interception, two pass breakups and a ½ tackle-for-loss.

The Jayhawks will now go for their seventh win on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Texas Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., and will be streamed by Big 12 Now on ESPN+.&nbsp;

The only other cornerbacks on the roster, L'Jarius Sneed and Chris Lammons, are only in their third years in the league. That makes the Chiefs one of the youngest defensive backfields in the NFL.

Sports Headlines for Sunday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 13 Hutchinson (3-0) hit a record 18 triples in Tuesday night's opener against Fort Scott.

Saturday night in the arena, the Dragons made 16 threes, but started a chilly 1 of 7.

NEO (1-2) jumped out to an 11-2 lead on a Hutchinson high-octane offense that started the game on a 4:15 drought.

Aaron Potter's basket took the lid off the hoop as Hutchinson raced back to a 16-15 lead just five minutes later.

The Dragons led by as many as 14 in the first quarter, but took a 57-50 lead into the locker room.

Freshman Ty Frierson took over in the second half. After hitting just 1 of 4 three-pointers in the first half, Frierson nailed 5 of 8 in the second to lead Hutchinson with his career-high 25.

Frierson hit back-to-back threes and Jackson Leyba added another in just the first two minutes of the second frame.

After making five triples in the first half, Hutchinson dropped 11 in the last 20 minutes.

Four Dragons scored in double digits, led by Frierson's 25 (Aaron Franklin 20, Jackson Leyba 16 and Tony Green 12).

Franklin and Green both notched double-doubles as each pulled down 12 rebounds. The Dragons outrebounded NEO 63-39.

Hutchinson took 24 more shots from the field than NEO, but the Golden Norse stayed in the contest with 51.4% shooting.

Five NEO players scored in double digits. Three of them scored 22 or more.

Always Wright scored 25 and dished seven assists.

Jordan Johnson added 22, while Massai Graham had a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds). Kelvin Spruill added 13 points.

Frierson and Leyba both had career days for the Blue Dragons.

Frierson set career highs in points (25) and three-pointers made (6).

Leyba had a career-high in points (16) and rebounds (7).

Hutchinson tallied 35 second-chance points on 30 offensive rebounds.

Despite building a 20-point advantage with 7:35 remaining, Hutchinson found itself in a battle with 2:23 left.

Over the course of five minutes, NEO cut the lead to 106-101. Twenty-four seconds later, the Golden Norse had the Dragon lead down to four.

With 1:12 left, Graham fouled out of the contest and Hutchinson went up 112-104. His replacement, Spruill, fouled out 22 seconds after that and the Dragons took an eight-point lead.

Hutchinson made 23 of 32 free throws on the night, including a crucial 8 0f 8 in the last two minutes to hang on for the victory.

 </figure>By DAREN DUNN Hutch PostHUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 13 Hutchinson (3-0) hit a record 18 triples in Tuesday night's opener against Fort Scott.Saturday night in the arena, the Dragons made 16 threes, but started a chilly 1 of 7.NEO (1-2) jumped out to an 11-2 lead on a Hutchinson high-octane offense that started the game on a 4:15 drought.Aaron Potter's basket took the lid off the hoop as Hutchinson raced back to a 16-15 lead just five minutes later.The Dragons led by as many as 14 in the first quarter, but took a 57-50 lead into the locker room.Freshman Ty Frierson took over in the second half. After hitting just 1 of 4 three-pointers in the first half, Frierson nailed 5 of 8 in the second to lead Hutchinson with his career-high 25.Frierson hit back-to-back threes and Jackson Leyba added another in just the first two minutes of the second frame.After making five triples in the first half, Hutchinson dropped 11 in the last 20 minutes.Four Dragons scored in double digits, led by Frierson's 25 (Aaron Franklin 20, Jackson Leyba 16 and Tony Green 12).Franklin and Green both notched double-doubles as each pulled down 12 rebounds. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 9 Hutchinson (3-0) held just an 18-14 advantage after one quarter Saturday night against NEO (0-2).

The Dragons outscored its first two opponents 172-92.

Hutchinson still put up 84 points, but gave up 61 in the process.

Hutchinson managed just a 38-33 lead at halftime as NEO capitalized on 16 points off nine Dragon turnovers.

Hutchinson only turned the ball over four times in the second half and Mya Williams shook off her 1-of-6 cold streak to finish the game with 21 points (18 in the second half).

Kali Howard just missed a double-double with 18 points and eight rebounds. She opened the season with back-to-back double-doubles, the first two of her career.

Journey Armstead notched 14 points thanks to 7 of 8 shooting from the charity stripe. She also dished seven assists.

The Golden Norse did not score any points off Dragon turnovers in the second half.

The Dragons added 20 points in the paint in the second half (32 total for the game) and outscored NEO by 15 in the third quarter.

The Dragons are back in action at home Wednesday, Nov. 9, against Washburn's JV. This game was originally scheduled for Nov. 8, but had to be moved because of a scheduling conflict.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson's defense scored before the offense ever had to take a snap.&nbsp;

Independence quarterback Greg Jones dropped back on the first third down of the game and Rodney Green Jr. knocked the ball loose.&nbsp;

The ball hit the turf and was reluctantly picked up by Ja'Mez Drummer, who stopped — thinking the ball was ruled incomplete.&nbsp;

Officials let the play finish as Drummer kicked it into gear for a scoop-six.&nbsp;

Independence challenged the ruling, since Jones had the ball behind his head, ready to throw, when the ball came out. Coach Jason Martin was hoping for an incomplete pass ruling, but officials confirmed the call.&nbsp;

Coach Jason Martin was hoping for an incomplete pass ruling, but officials confirmed the call.&nbsp;The early 7-0 lead was just the beginning of Hutchinson's rout of a very good Pirate team.&nbsp;The Pirates (3-5, 2-3) have a losing record on the year, but all of the losses have been close and against top-tier teams (Iowa Central, Butler, Iowa Western, Garden City and Hutchinson).&nbsp;Coach Dallas said the focus was to "Get off the field on third down." Indy went 0 for 11 on third down conversions. "They didn't convert all day," Dallas said. The Pirates also went for it on fourth down and did not convert against the Dragon D.The defense pitched a shutout for the second time this season and has allowed just 10.1 points per game this year.Hutchinson held the Pirates to 58 total yards.&nbsp;Once the Dragon offense got on the field, it played at a high level, too.Quarterback Dylan Laible threw for 150 yards on 9 of 17 completions for two touchdowns.Malik Benson, the nation's top recruit, caught both of Laible's TD passes. Both scores came in the first quarter after Drummer's 20-yard scoop-and-score.Laible's 9-yard pass to Benson capped an 8-play, 62-yard drive that took just 3:31 off the clock. The Dragons turned around and scored on a 51-second drive that needed just four plays to cover 58 yards.That 4-yard pass to Benson came compliments of a Stephen Matina fumble recovery.In the blink of an eye, an Indy defense that had surrendered just 18.7 points per game going into Saturday's matchup, found itself down 24-0 after one quarter.Cole Segraves added field goals from 33 and 28 yards away. He should have been kicking for one after a Dylan Kedzior touchdown in the second quarter, but that run was called back for a holding penalty.It was not the only Kedzior TD called back. Later in the game, his 72-yard dash to the end zone was also nullified by a holding penalty.Hutchinson (9-0, 6-0) had seven penalties for 80 yards, while Indy racked up 15 penalties for 149. Three Pirates were booted from the contest for unsportsmanlike conduct.Despite the nullified runs, Kedzior finished with 88 yards rushing and a touchdown from two yards out just before halftime.Defensive end Nikko Taylor forced Jones to throw away a pass from the end zone while he was still in the pocket. That safety and the Kedzior run put Hutchinson up 36-0 at the break.Tre Bess got some good touches at RB and made the most of a 42-yard scamper to the end zone in the third quarter. Bess averaged eight yards per carry on eight touches.Ed Williams III also ran for a touchdown. His seven-yard run was the final score of the game with 7:40 left. His carry capped a 9-play, 44-yard drive that took 4:31 off the clock.FINAL: Hutchinson 53 Independence 0Next week's matchup against Iowa Western was potentially a No. 1 vs. No. 2 contest.
