ELKHORN, Nebraska – The NJCAA top-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team posted back-to-back 8-over 296s on Monday and are in 10th place in the Big “O” Classic at Indian Creek Golf Club’s Black Bird course.

Hutchinson is in 10th place after two rounds with a 36-hole score of 588. The Blue Dragons trail the University of St. Thomas and SIU-Edwardsville, who are tied for first after two rounds, by 14 strokes. Nebraska-Omaha is third at 576.

The Blue Dragons trail Dodge City, the only other Region VI team in the field of mostly NCAA Division I and Division II programs by one stroke entering the final round, which will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Indian Creek’s Grey Hawk course.

Leading the way for the Blue Dragons is All-American Dominic Clemons, who is tied for 13th at even-par 144. Clemons had rounds of 71 and 73 in the first two round.

All-American Blake Saffell and freshman Louis Ross are tied for 34th at 4-over 148.

Saffell shot back-to-back 74s on Monday, bringing his first round back to 2-over after falling as high as 5-over for the round. Ross shot rounds of 73 and 75.

Freshman Alex Lindstrom is tied for 34th at 148 after rounds of 76 and 73.

Freshman Louis Galvin is tied for 62nd at 151. Galvin had rounds of 77 and 74.

Freshman Joey Langstraat is playing as an individual. He shot 166 after rounds of 84 and 82 and is 93rd.

Creighton’s Shaun Campbell is the individual leader after a 6-under 138 (66-72).

⛳ HutchCC Golf: Dragons 10th in Big O Classic after 2 rounds

CLEVELAND (AP) — Rookie Drew Waters belted a three-run homer off Kirk McCarty in the 10th inning, sending the Kansas City Royals to a 5-2 victory over the AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians on Monday night.

Waters’ third home run in four games landed on the porch in left field, scoring automatic runner Nicky Lopez and Michael A. Taylor. The 23-year-old outfielder went 2 for 4 with four RBIs as Kansas City won for the second time in seven games.

“I wasn’t trying to hit a homer, I was just trying to make contact and get the guy in from third,” said Waters, who has four of his five homers against the Guardians. “But it was a dead-red fastball and I happened to have some good luck.”

Cleveland has won 11 of 14 and is an MLB-best 22-6 since Sept. 5. The Guardians will host either Tampa Bay or Seattle in a best-of-three wild-card series beginning Friday.

Closer Scott Barlow (7-4) pitched a scoreless ninth and Taylor Clarke worked the 10th, earning his third save. McCarty (4-3) allowed three runs, two earned, in two innings.

“How about Drew Waters? He’s been all-in and the guys have a lot of fun with him,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “He enjoys the competition and is just an intelligent, exciting player.”

Kansas City right-hander Zack Greinke, who is headed into free agency, went six innings, allowing one earned run and one unearned run. The 39-year-old struck out one, threw three wild pitches, and stabbed a liner by Owen Miller that was headed for his face.

Greinke ranks 20th all-time with 2,882 strikeouts and is tied for 73rd with 223 wins, but remained non-committal about his future in the sport.

“I don’t know for sure what’s going to happen,” Greinke said. “I don’t know at the moment. We do like the city and (the franchise) has treated me and my family really good this year. Professionally, it’s been an enjoyable season.”

Regardless of where, and if, Greinke pitches in 2023, his manager knows where he will eventually end up.

“No question, he’s headed to the Hall of Fame,” Matheny said.

Bobby Witt Jr. singled and stole his AL rookie-best 30th base for Kansas City, but also committed a fielding error in the sixth that permitted Cleveland to tie the game.

Oscar Gonzalez and Will Brennan had two hits apiece for the Guardians. Brennan is batting .351 with one homer and seven RBIs in 10 games since his Sept. 21 recall from Triple-A Columbus.

“Good young players grow, and you kind of see it right in front of your eyes,” Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. “It’s very satisfying.”

Triston McKenzie, who will start the second game of the wild-card series for Cleveland, allowed one run in five innings. The right-hander struck out four without a walk, completing his regular season with an 11-11 record and 2.96 ERA.

“I tried to use tonight as a tester, just trying to get my mind right for the playoffs,” McKenzie said. “There are a lot of nerves for everybody, even moving into this last stretch of games before the playoffs.”

Former AL Cy Young winner Greinke, who broke into the majors with Kansas City in 2004, signed a one-year contract on March 16. He made his 500th career start on June 29 against Texas and threw his 50,000th pitch on July 10 against Cleveland.

Known for his eccentricities, Greinke roamed the field in shorts, an oversized long-sleeve shirt and high socks on the chilly, windy afternoon.

“Zack is so unique and so real because he’s not trying to impress anybody,” Matheny said. “The young guys have used him as a resource, but the thing with him is, you better be careful what you ask because he’ll tell you.”

Royals: C Salvador Perez (left thumb soreness) missed his second straight game after feeling discomfort in his surgically repaired thumb Saturday. Matheny said the seven-time All-Star is being monitored and has not been ruled out for the year.

Royals: LHP Daniel Lynch (4-12, 4.96 ERA) seeks his first victory in his fifth career start against the Guardians. Lynch is 0-2 with an 8.66 ERA against Cleveland, including an 8-3 road loss on May 31 in which he allowed six runs in four innings.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– For the second-consecutive week, Kansas State had a pair of players earn weekly honors as linebacker Khalid Duke&nbsp;was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and quarterback Adrian Martinez&nbsp;was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week following the Wildcats' win over Texas Tech, the conference office announced Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It is the first time Duke has earned a weekly Big 12 honor, while it is the second time in as many weeks that Martinez has picked up an accolade from the conference, as he was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week following the Wildcats' win at No. 6 Oklahoma. The Wildcats are up to five weekly conference honors this season as Kobe Savage&nbsp;was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after the Oklahoma game and Phillip Brooks&nbsp;was the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this season after K-State's win over Missouri. Duke finished the game against the Red Raiders with eight tackles – the second most on the team – and a career-high 3.0 sacks. His sack total was tied for the fourth most in a game in school history. The school announced the decision Sunday, a day after a 43-20 loss at Arizona. It’s only the fourth 0-5 start in the program's history. Dorrell, 58, was brought in as a replacement when Mel Tucker bolted for Michigan State out of the blue in February 2020. Colorado waited to announce the news until after Dorrell had a chance to inform his staff and players. Offensive coordinator Mike Sanford will serve as interim coach.

The school announced the decision Sunday, a day after a 43-20 loss at Arizona. It’s only the fourth 0-5 start in the history of Colorado (1980, 1984 and 2006).

“I want everybody to know that I have a ton of respect for Coach Dorrell and the way he led our football program with integrity,” Colorado director of athletics&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeJo3-rbGrg">Rick George</a>&nbsp;said. “He helped us navigate the challenges of COVID-19 and did so with a lot of class. He made our young men better off the field, both in the classroom and in the community. He led our program to the highest GPA in our history, and his team was involved in a lot of different community activities.

“Karl’s a good man, I have a ton of respect for him and I wish him nothing (but the) best in his future endeavors.

“However, the on-the-field performance fell well short of our expectations,” George added. “I know that starts with me. I hired Karl and it didn’t work out the way any of us wanted it to. There’s no excuses and I own my part in where we are today.”

Dorrell, 58, was brought in as a replacement when Mel Tucker bolted for Michigan State out of the blue in February 2020.

The hiring of Dorrell was met with surprise because he had been out of college coaching for a while. He was an assistant with the Miami Dolphins at the time, but he had been UCLA's head coach from 2003-07.

Dorrell,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/94ffd2a4725a65a357213e9a1fd88637">who had built a house in the Boulder area</a>, agreed to a five-year, $18 million contract that ran through 2024. The buyout, which will come out of the athletic department's budget, is approximately $8.7 million, but could be reduced pending his next job.

Although the Buffaloes have had just two winning seasons since 2006 — and one of them was their 4-2 record during the pandemic in 2020 — George said he trusts Colorado can return to prominence.

“We will do what is needed to get a winning football team back on this field,” George said. “... This place can be and will be a football powerhouse. We have the facilities. We have the location. We have the programs. We have everything that we need to be successful on the football field.”

George also issued a call for local businesses to step up and make CU more competitive when it comes to NIL opportunities for the Buffs.

Colorado waited to announce the news until after Dorrell had a chance to inform his staff and players in a meeting. Defensive coordinator Chris Wilson was also let go.

Offensive coordinator Mike Sanford will serve as interim coach. Defensive line coach Gerald Chatman will serve as the team’s defensive coordinator, while passing game coordinator/tight ends coach Clay Patterson takes over as offensive coordinator.

The Buffaloes are idle this week before hosting California. They have seven games left and Sanford said the goal is to get an eighth game — a bowl berth.

“We have not been eliminated from any postseason to this point and it all starts with having a fantastic bye week,” Sanford said. “... These players haven't quit. They have shown nothing but fight.

Dorrell didn’t have much of an offseason program due to coronavirus restrictions his inaugural season, but he led the Buffaloes to a 4-2 mark — they started 4-0 — and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl. Dorrell was named Pac-12 coach of the year.

Colorado went 4-8 last season and saw several key starters leave through the transfer portal. This season, Colorado has rotated through three quarterbacks in trying to ignite an offense that ranks near the bottom of the FBS ranks. The Buffaloes and rival Colorado State, which has a new coach in Jay Norvell, are the only two teams left in the FBS without a win.

The loss to Arizona became the final blow for Dorrell, whose team has been outscored by a 216-67 margin. The Wildcats were a team predicted to finish 11th in the Pac-12 preseason media poll, with Colorado last. The Buffaloes' defense surrendered 673 total yards Saturday — the most since allowing 616 to Arizona in 2015.

Dorrell weathered some rocky moments over his time in Boulder. A year ago, he apologized a day after losing his cool and pushing a photojournalist’s camera on his way off the field following a 37-14 loss to Southern California.

He also came under fire last season for skipping his customary postgame radio show after a 30-0 loss to the Gophers. In addition, Dorrell drew scrutiny when he didn't make his players available after a 55-23 loss to Texas in the Alamo Bowl.

Since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, the Buffaloes have turned to coaches such as Jon Embree, Mike MacIntyre, Tucker and Dorrell to try to turn the Buffaloes around. MacIntyre led the Buffaloes to the conference championship game in 2016, but it was his only winning season out of six.

Tucker seemed to have the Buffaloes on the right path, bringing in several top prospects, before leaving for Michigan State after one season. That opened the door for Dorrell, who served as a receivers coach and later as offensive coordinator for Colorado in the 1990s.

A national search for a coach is expected to start soon.

New York plays its final three games of the season against worst-in-the-majors Washington. Atlanta closes out the regular season with a three-game set in Miami. Atlanta also claimed a tiebreaker over the Mets, winning their season series 10-9.

This was reset week for Associated Press college football poll voters. A season-high 10 teams that entered the weekend ranked in the AP Top 25 lost. That included five ranked teams losing to unranked opponents. The fallout was more than a quarter of the poll turning over Sunday. TAMPA, Fla. — Patrick Mahomes threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns, including an electrifying jump pass to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a 41-31 victory over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night.

Playing in a packed stadium only four days after Hurricane Ian ravaged portions of Florida, Mahomes had TD throws of 16 yards to Travis Kelce, 1 yard to Edwards-Helaire and 10 yards to Jody Fortson while making NFL history by reaching 20,000 yards passing faster than anyone else.

Edwards-Helaire and tight end Noah Gray rushed for TDs for the Chiefs (3-1), who won the first meeting between Mahomes and Brady since Tampa Bay's 31-9 rout of Kansas City in the Super Bowl — also played at Raymond James Stadium — two seasons ago.

The short pass to Edwards-Helaire was Mahomes at his improvisational best: He escaped two defenders, did a 360-degree spin move and flipped the ball over a crowd to the running back in the back of the end zone.

Brady completed 39 of 52 passes for 385 yards and three TDs without an interception for Tampa Bay (2-2). The Bucs, however, played from behind the whole night after rookie Rachaad White fumbled the opening kickoff and Mahomes threw his TD pass to Kelce two plays later.

Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed sacked Brady, forcing a fumble that Mahomes turned into Gray's TD, with the tight end taking a direct snap from center on the 1-yard plunge that put Kansas City up 28-10.

Brady threw TD passes of 13 yards and 1 yard to Mike Evans, who returned from serving a one-game suspension for his role in a on-field brawl at New Orleans two weeks ago. He had eight receptions for 103 yards.

Evans' second TD trimmed Kansas City's lead to 28-17 at halftime. That was as close as the Bucs got until Leonard Fournette's 5-yard TD reception cut Tampa Bay's deficit to 41-31 with 3:30 remaining.

Brady wouldn't get the ball back until less than a minute was left.

Kansas City finished with 417 yards of total offense, including a 189-3 edge on the ground, against a defense that had allowed a league-low 27 points through three games.

The Bucs sacked Mahomes three times and intercepted him once, but it was not the "coming out party" linebacker Shaquil Barrett had predicted his team having against an offensive line the Chiefs have overhauled since struggling against Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl loss.

With Hurricane Ian approaching the Florida's Gulf Coast, the Bucs evacuated for four days to the Miami area, where they practiced Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Dolphins' training facility while the NFL made contingency plans to move the game to Minneapolis if it couldn't be played in Tampa.

The Glazer family that owns the Bucs has announced it is donating $1 million for hurricane relief. The NFL Foundation is matching that donation, and the Bucs on Sunday night began a "Florida Strong" campaign to raise funds, as well as honor emergency personnel and first responders.

Players and fans observed a "moment of support" prior the national anthem, and the Bucs also paid tribute to those affected by the hurricane in a video presentation displayed on giant scoreboard screens before the game.

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker (ankle) was inactive for the third straight game. ... Bucs WRs Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee ), as well as LT Donovan Smith (elbow), played for the first time since Tampa Bay's season-opening victory at Dallas. ... Bucs CB Logan Ryan left with a foot injury in the first quarter. ... TE Cameron Brate (concussion) and CB Carlton Davis (stinger) left in the second half.

Chiefs:&nbsp;Return home to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday, Oct. 10.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Shane Bieber allowed two runs over five innings in his final start before the postseason, Josh Naylor and rookie Will Brennan hit three-run homers and the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Sunday.

Bieber (13-8) is scheduled to start Game 1 of the wild-card series Friday for the AL Central champions. Cleveland has won 11 of 13 and is an MLB-best 22-5 since Sept. 5.

The right-hander gave up both runs — one unearned —in the fourth and scattered seven hits, struck out three, walked one. Bieber finished the regular season with 198 strikeouts in 200 innings.

Naylor and Brennan homered off Max Castillo (0-2) in Cleveland’s six-run second.

Naylor played first base and batted cleanup, one spot ahead of his brother Bo, who was the designated hitter. Bo Naylor, called up from the minors Saturday, struck out in all four at-bats.

Josh Naylor’s home run gave Cleveland a 7-0 lead. Brennan, another rookie, hit his first major-league homer earlier in the inning. He also tripled and scored to leadoff the game.

Kansas City cut the score to 7-5 in the eighth, but Trevor Stephan retired Edward Olivares with two on to end the inning. Emmanuel Clase pitched the ninth for his major-league leading 41st save.

Amed Rosario had a sacrifice fly in the first before Cleveland sent nine men to the plate in the second and scored six times with two outs.

Brennan is batting .355 in nine games since being called up from Triple-A Columbus on Sept. 21.

José Ramirez stole his 20th base of the season in the seventh, the fourth time in his career he has hit 20 home runs and stolen 20 bases in a season.

Castillo allowed seven runs in five innings. MJ Melendez and Vinnie Pasquantino each had three hits for the Royals.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez wasn’t in the lineup after feeling soreness in his left thumb during Saturday’s game.

Perez tore the ulnar collateral ligament in the thumb in June, had surgery and returned in late July. Perez homered in the seventh inning Saturday and was removed from the game following the at-bat because of discomfort in the thumb.

Manager Mike Matheny said tests showed the area where the surgery was performed wasn’t affected and Perez is day-to-day over the final three games of the season.

“We’re fortunate everything looked good where the repair was,” Matheny said. “That didn’t seem to be an issue. It’s just sore.”

The game-time temperature was 58 degrees, which felt much lower to fans thanks to a 22 mph wind blowing in from center field.

The six-game series continues Monday night. RHP Zack Greinke (4-9, 3.78 ERA) is 1-0 in three starts against the Guardians this season, allowing two earned runs over 16 2/3 innings. RHP Triston McKenzie (11-11, 2.99 ERA) was 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in five September starts.

Alabama reclaimed No. 1 from Georgia in The Associated Press college football poll in one of the closest votes in the recent years, and six teams — including Kansas — made their season debut on Sunday.

The Crimson Tide received 25 first-place votes and 1,523 points in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll">AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank</a>, two points more than the Bulldogs. Georgia received 28 first-place votes to become the first team since Alabama in November 2019 to have the most first-place votes but not be No. 1.

The Tide was No. 2 behind LSU that year, with 21 first-place votes to the Tigers' 17.

The last time there was a two-point margin between Nos. 1 and 2 was Nov. 1, 2020, when Clemson was ahead of Alabama. There have been three other polls with a two-point margin at the top since 2007.

Ohio State remained third, but the Buckeyes also gained some ground on the top two, getting 10 first-place votes.

The Crimson Tide&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll">started the season</a>&nbsp;at No. 1, but the defending national champion Bulldogs took the top spot away from their Southeastern Conference rivals after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll">Week 2</a>&nbsp;when Alabama needed a late field goal to beat Texas.

The Bulldogs remain unbeaten but needed a fourth-quarter rally to beat four-touchdown underdog Missouri on Saturday night. Earlier in the day, the Tide managed to pull away from Arkansas in the second half without Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young.

Young sprained his throwing shoulder in the first half and missed most of the game in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Clemson and No. 6 Southern California all won and held their places this week, though the Wolverines and Tigers are now separated by just three points.

No. 7 Oklahoma State, followed by Tennessee, Mississippi and Penn State, round out the top 10.

The rest of the AP Top 25 got a major overhaul after 10 ranked teams lost, five to unranked opponents. That cleared the way for seven teams to move into the rankings this week, most notably No. 19 Kansas.

The Jayhawks are ranked for the first time since Oct. 18, 2009, which was the longest drought for a team currently in a Power Five conference.

The closest margin between Nos. 1 and 2 in AP poll history is zero. Oklahoma and Miami tied for No. 1 in the 2002 preseason poll, and Miami and Washington shared the top spot in mid-October 1992.

The last time there was a one-point margin between the top two teams was 1992, when the Hurricanes and Huskies were separated by a point in the weeks before and after they were tied.

With Kansas back in the rankings, the longest poll appearance drought belongs to Illinois, which was last ranked in 2011. And the Illini have positioned themselves to make the leap with a 4-1 start heading into their home game against Iowa next week.

Next up on the list is Rutgers (2012), Oregon State (preseason 2013) and Vanderbilt (final 2013).

The voters generally decided to start from scratch at the back half of the rankings, flipping seven teams.

— No. 17 TCU is in the rankings for the first time since a brief stay in 2019 at 25th.

— No. 18 UCLA is off to its first 5-0 start since 2013.

— No. 19 Kansas stayed unbeaten by knocking off Iowa State. The Jayhawks last started 5-0 in that 2009 season, then proceeded to drop their next six games and fall to the bottom of major college football for more than a decade.

Both Kansas schools are ranked for the first time since Oct. 14, 2007.

— No. 22 Syracuse improved to 5-0 with an easy victory against Wagner and finally cracked the rankings. The Orange are ranked for the first time since early in the 2019 season.

— No. 23 Mississippi State has been ranked for only one week (after the first regular-season game of 2020) since the end of 2018 season.

Both Mississippi SEC schools are ranked for the first time since Nov. 11, 2015.

— No. 24 Cincinnati. The Bearcats are the one team to enter the rankings this week that already had been in this season. Cincinnati fell out after a Week 1 loss at Arkansas and has won four straight since.

— No. 25 LSU has its first ranking under coach Brian Kelly. The Tigers have won four straight, including two SEC games, since losing a heartbreaker to Florida State on Labor Day weekend.

Among the seven teams to drop out of the AP Top 25, five of them will be unranked for the first time this season: Oklahoma, Baylor, Arkansas, Texas A&amp;M and Pittsburgh.

Perez collected three singles and a solo homer in four plate appearances, spoiling the return of Cleveland right-hander Zach Plesac (3-12) following a one-month stay on the injured list with a broken pitching hand.

The Guardians will host either Toronto, Seattle or Tampa Bay in a best-of-three wild-card series next weekend. Cleveland has won 10 of 12 and is an MLB-best 21-5 since Sept. 5.

Bubic (3-13) tossed five scoreless innings, allowing five hits, in snapping his career-long losing streak at seven. The left-hander had not won since July 24 against Tampa Bay, posting a 6.14 ERA over his previous 11 starts.

Drew Waters homered for the second straight day, Kyle Isbel had a two-run double and MJ Melendez doubled twice for Kansas City. Bobby Witt Jr. singled and stole his AL rookie-leading 29th base.

The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team got into an early hole against the sixth-ranked team in the country on Saturday.

The No. 6-ranked Butler Grizzlies scored three early goals to put the Blue Dragons in a big, early hole. The Blue Dragons could not dig themselves out of. The No. 17-ranked Blue Dragons dropped a 3-0 Jayhawk Conference decision to Butler at BG Products/Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Blue Dragons fell to 10-2 overall and 7-2 in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons are 2-1 in their last three matchups, which have all been against NJCAA-ranked opponents. Hutchinson plays a fourth-straight ranked opponent on Wednesday when the 12th-ranked Barton Cougars travel to Hutchinson for potentially another top 20 battle at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

Saturday’s loss was the first time this season the Blue Dragons were shut out, a first since the Region VI quarterfinal to Coffeyville last season.

Butler’s Brooke Sullivan scored twice, including the game-winner, in the first 22 minutes and Emma Kolbe added another to boost the Grizzlies lead in the first half.

Hutchinson was outshot 23-14, including 12 shots on goal by Butler to Hutchinson’s four – two by sophomores Julia Dias De Souza and Hadlie Lowe.

Blue Dragons goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona was handed her second loss of the season. The sophomore had nine saves Saturday.

HutchCC Soccer: Dragons fall to No. 6 Butler

The Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team made its bid to return to the NJCAA national rankings with a decisive Jayhawk West sweep of No. 12 Seward County on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

Sophomores Baylee Miller and Blondie Penaflor paced a decisive Blue Dragon attack that hit .384 as Hutchinson defeated the Saints 25-19, 25-14, 25-19.

The Blue Dragons are now 21-8 and 8-1 in the Jayhawk West. The Dragons, Saints and Butler all have one league loss. The Saints fall to 18-5 and 8-1 in the league. The Blue Dragons went 3-0 this past week with victories over Barton, Dodge City and Seward County.

The Blue Dragons earned their fifth victory over a nationally ranked team this season.

Miller hit a career-high .516 with 17 kills on 31 swings with one error to pace the Blue Dragons. Miller had a stretch where she had a kill on set point to close the opening set and then had kills on Hutchinson’s first five points of the second set. Miller had eight kills and two blocks in the second set.

Penaflor hit a career-high .727 with eight kills on 11 attacks. Penaflor added nine total blocks (1 solo, 8 assists) to lead a strong Blue Dragon block.

Freshman Taniya Golden had seven kills. Freshman Anna Dean had four kills.

Sophomore setter Andrea Serrano had 21 assists with three service aces and six digs. Freshman setter Giovanna Ravenhani had 12 assists and three kills.

Freshman Perrine Blanc had 18 kills. Sophomore Sophie Connor had 16 kills.

Set 1: The Dragons took advantage of a couple of Saint attack errors and a Connor ace gave the Dragons an early 5-2 lead and force a Seward timeout. A Dean kill gave the Dragons a 9-5 lead and a Serrano ace gave Hutchinson a 12-6 lead. The Dragons built a set-high nine-point lead after a Miller kill made it 16-7. The Saints got back within 20-16 with a 5-2 run, but a Ravenhani setter dump for a kill, another Serrano aces and a solo Penaflor block upped the Dragon margin to 23-15.

Set 2: Miller’s torrid start to the second set was six kills in the first seven points and the Dragons got out to a 7-3 lead. The Saints pulled within 10-8, but the Dragons reeled off seven-straight points. Miller had a kill and two blocks as Hutchinson built a 17-8 lead. Dean’s ace capped a 3-0 Hutchinson run for a 24-12 lead. Penaflor had the kill on set point for a 25-14 victory and a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3: Three-straight Saint aces capped a 5-0 run as Seward County built an early 6-4 lead. Hutchinson went on a 6-1 run to take a 10-7 lead after a Golden kill. The Saints answered with a 4-1 run and Seward eventually took a 15-13 lead. Hutchinson answered with a 4-0 run to take the lead back. Then tied at 17-all, a Saint service error and a Dean kill gave the Dragons the lead for good. At 22-19, the Dragons finished the Saints off with a Golden kill, Miller back-row attack for a kill and a Serrano service ace on match point.

HutchCC Sports InformationThe Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team made its bid to return to the NJCAA national rankings with a decisive Jayhawk West sweep of No. 12 Seward County on Saturday at the Sports Arena.Sophomores Baylee Miller and Blondie Penaflor paced a decisive Blue Dragon attack that hit .384 as Hutchinson defeated the Saints 25-19, 25-14, 25-19.The Blue Dragons are now 21-8 and 8-1 in the Jayhawk West. The Dragons, Saints and Butler all have one league loss. The Saints fall to 18-5 and 8-1 in the league. The Blue Dragons went 3-0 this past week with victories over Barton, Dodge City and Seward County.The Blue Dragons earned their fifth victory over a nationally ranked team this season.Miller hit a career-high .516 with 17 kills on 31 swings with one error to pace the Blue Dragons. Miller had a stretch where she had a kill on set point to close the opening set and then had kills on Hutchinson’s first five points of the second set. Miller had eight kills and two blocks in the second set.Penaflor hit a career-high .727 with eight kills on 11 attacks. Penaflor added nine total blocks (1 solo, 8 assists) to lead a strong Blue Dragon block.Freshman Taniya Golden had seven kills. Freshman Anna Dean had four kills.Sophomore setter Andrea Serrano had 21 assists with three service aces and six digs. Freshman setter Giovanna Ravenhani had 12 assists and three kills.Freshman Perrine Blanc had 18 kills. Sophomore Sophie Connor had 16 kills.Set 1: The Dragons took advantage of a couple of Saint attack errors and a Connor ace gave the Dragons an early 5-2 lead and force a Seward timeout. A Dean kill gave the Dragons a 9-5 lead and a Serrano ace gave Hutchinson a 12-6 lead. The Dragons built a set-high nine-point lead after a Miller kill made it 16-7. The Saints got back within 20-16 with a 5-2 run, but a Ravenhani setter dump for a kill, another Serrano aces and a solo Penaflor block upped the Dragon margin to 23-15.Set 2: Miller’s torrid start to the second set was six kills in the first seven points and the Dragons got out to a 7-3 lead. The Saints pulled within 10-8, but the Dragons reeled off seven-straight points. Miller had a kill and two blocks as Hutchinson built a 17-8 lead. Dean’s ace capped a 3-0 Hutchinson run for a 24-12 lead. Penaflor had the kill on set point for a 25-14 victory and a 2-0 match lead.Set 3: Three-straight Saint aces capped a 5-0 run as Seward County built an early 6-4 lead. Hutchinson went on a 6-1 run to take a 10-7 lead after a Golden kill. The Saints answered with a 4-1 run and Seward eventually took a 15-13 lead. Hutchinson answered with a 4-0 run to take the lead back. Then tied at 17-all, a Saint service error and a Dean kill gave the Dragons the lead for good. At 22-19, the Dragons finished the Saints off with a Golden kill, Miller back-row attack for a kill and a Serrano service ace on match point.
