HUTCHINSON, Kan.:&nbsp;(Transcript from KWBW Sports) 7:10am on BW Radio, time to turn to sports, 5th year senior Keyontae Johnson was honored for the second time this season as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week as he had an impressive performance in key states win over Nebraska in the Wildcat Classic. Johnson played perhaps his best all around game and helping K-State move to 10 and 1 and extend their best start to a season since the 2016-17 season. He had a game high in Points 23 and also 11 rebounds. The first Wildcat captured Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, twice in the same season since Dean Wade did it two times in the 2015 season. He turned out to be pretty good.

Top 25&nbsp;AP basketball poll shows Kansas moves up to number four, Texas seven,&nbsp; Baylor is number twelve. TCU is number Twenty. 

Based on current standings, the Chiefs are in position to potentially host a divisional round game at field at Arrowhead. Tickets for the potential game go on sale tomorrow. Jackson County residents get the first crack at tickets with a pre-sale available from 8 a.m. until 9:30 am. Tickets for everyone else are available at 11 a.m.. Wednesday, December the 21st. 

One of the top  high school seniors in Kansas says he's going to Kansas. Eudora High's Jaden Hamm decommitted from Arkansas this weekend, shortly after making a visit to the Jayhawks. Hamm is a tight end, rated as the sixth best player in Kansas. Hamm is the second top ten player from the state to commit to CU Lawrence. Free state offensive lineman Calvin Clements recently changed his commitment from Baylor to KU as well. 

Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Cottle. Nikki confirmed Monday that he has agreed to a contract extension with KU. He agreed to a contract that extends his contract five years. That'll keep the talented coordinator under contract with KU through the 2027 season. Terms not disclosed. 

The news are on the heels of Lance Leipold agreeing to a new contract that keeps him in Lawrence through the 2029 season. Royals closing in on another veteran pitcher to add their young pitching corps. The second edition in a week right handed starting pitcher Jordan Lyles, who's 32 and the royals close to inking a two year deal that's according to MLB.com registered a 12 and 11 record with a 4.42 era with 144 strikeouts. Just 52 walks in, 32 starts. That's 179 innings for Baltimore last season. His 179 innings pitched surpassed Brady Singer's royals, leading total by more than 25 innings point. The Royals need some additional starting pitching.

<a>MANHATTAN, Kan.</a>&nbsp;–&nbsp;Led by 18 individuals nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Kansas State fall student-athletes in the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, football, soccer and volleyball combined for 72 Academic All-Big 12 honors, as the conference office announced its fall accolades on Tuesday.

The 72 student-athletes honored were tied for the third most in the league. The Wildcats had 64 student-athletes named to the first team and an additional eight on the second team.

Those that were nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA include men’s cross country runners&nbsp;Kerby Depenbusch,&nbsp;Matthew Hauser&nbsp;and&nbsp;Mike Rohlinger; women’s cross country runners&nbsp;Sydney Burton&nbsp;and&nbsp;Helen Giefer; football players&nbsp;Cooper Beebe,&nbsp;Robert Hentz II,&nbsp;Will Howard,&nbsp;Austin Moore&nbsp;and&nbsp;Chris Tennant; soccer players&nbsp;Adah Anderson,&nbsp;Shannon Dukes,&nbsp;Caylee Thornhill,&nbsp;Maddie Weichel&nbsp;and&nbsp;Alaina Werremeyer; and volleyball players&nbsp;Kadye Fernholz,&nbsp;Loren Hinkle&nbsp;and&nbsp;Mackenzie Morris.

K-State led the conference in the number of cross country athletes nominated with a 4.00 GPA with five.

In football, the Wildcats ranked third in the league overall and tied for first with 29 first-team honorees. Since 2014, the Wildcats have totaled a league-leading 270 Academic All-Big 12 performers, 32 more than the next closest team.

Among the soccer programs on the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 awards, K-State had the second-most honorees with 16. In its seven seasons of action, Kansas State has now received 85 Academic All-Big 12 citations including 76 first team honors.

K-State volleyball’s three student-athletes that were nominated with 4.0 GPAs tied for the most in the league. Since 2015, 67 Wildcats have received Academic All-Big 12 accolades with 60 being named to the first team.

First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — And it came to pass — actually, quarterback Terry Bradshaw came to pass, but bear with us. This is a story about football, culture and religion, so it seems right to begin with some biblical phrasing.

Thus, Bradshaw barely got off the pass, which was deflected in a collision between defender and receiver. Everyone thought the game was over except a hustling fullback, Franco Harris. He made an improbable shoestring catch and raced into the end zone, securing the Pittsburgh Steelers' first-ever playoff win, the start of a long dynasty.

That was 50 years ago this Friday, on Dec. 23, 1972. But even though the NFL has officially designated it the greatest play in league history, it was bigger than that.

“Dec. 23 will henceforth be celebrated in Pittsburgh as the Feast of the Immaculate Reception,” legendary local sportscaster Myron Cope proclaimed.

He got the idea from a caller whose boyfriend had coined the name in a barroom victory celebration — putting a twist on the recently passed Catholic Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which marks the belief that the Virgin Mary was conceived without sin.

The coinage was as durable as it was instant, “using religious terminology to almost mythologize a sporting event,” said Anne Madarasz, chief historian and director of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

The Immaculate Reception crystallized the rise of the Steelers — even as their namesake industry was on the decline, as was the Pittsburgh of compact immigrant neighborhoods with multiple ethnic Catholic parishes.

By 1980, just as the Steelers were celebrating their fourth Super Bowl victory, Pittsburgh’s famed steel industry was moving from decline to all-out collapse. Many young people moved out of the demoralized region in search of jobs across the country (helping build the Steelers' national fan base, by the way).

Still, those who left and those who stayed had the memory of a play called immaculate — a story with a never-give-up moral.

“This was our cultural rallying point,” said the Rev. Lou Vallone, a retired Catholic priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

“It’s what kept us going as we saw our immigrant culture begin to dissipate, as the economics went down, the steel mills closed, as people moved out into the suburbs, people moved out of the area," said Vallone. He used to preside at Masses at St. Peter Church, the parish nearest the stadium, where the congregants included many game-day tailgaters, clad in Steelers' black and gold.

The city's and region's population decreased in the years after the catch. The ranks of Catholics — 40% of the region's population in 1972 — dropped by about a third. Many ethnic and other parishes have closed or merged, and often merged again. A church named for the Immaculate Conception recently closed.

The region has taken on new economic drivers — education, medicine, energy.

But the mythology of the Immaculate Reception endures.

At the Pittsburgh International Airport, a statue immortalizing Franco Harris at the moment of his catch stands next to another historical figure, someone named George Washington.

And where Three Rivers Stadium once stood — now a sea of parking spaces near the Steelers' current stadium — there's a monument to the Immaculate Reception. You might call it a shrine.

It includes a marker where fans who are so inclined can put their foot in the exact spot where Harris' foot landed.

And as with the Immaculate Reception, people have been putting themselves in Harris' cleats since they first poured onto the field in 1972, joining him in an end zone celebration.

“It’s not just him crossing the goal line, it’s the team and the city,” Madarasz said.

It’s hardly the only Catholic connection to the Steelers. “There was nobody more Catholic than the Chief,” Vallone said of the team's legendary founder, Art Rooney. And for decades, the team has practiced at St. Vincent College, a nearby Catholic school and home to a Benedictine abbey.

While the Immaculate Reception has a Catholic name, it also has an element of interfaith cooperation.

Sportscaster Cope was Jewish. Years later, he addressed the perennial controversy of whether the catch was even legitimate under NFL rules (depending on whether the ball touched the defender or receiver before bouncing to Harris). In a New York Times essay, he posed an only-in-America question:

“Was Franco Harris' Immaculate Reception kosher?”

It was indeed, he insisted, after studying the film.

Religious and football iconography have merged long before praying coaches had their day in the Supreme Court this year. Quarterback Doug Flutie’s 1984 “Hail Mary” touchdown pass to Gerard Phelan gave a legendary victory to a Catholic school, Boston College, over the University of Miami.

“Touchdown Jesus,” a large mural of Christ with his arms raised, is a landmark near the stadium of Notre Dame University, the Catholic school that long ago fielded the apocalyptic backfield, the Four Horsemen.

The Oakland Raiders, while on the losing end of the Immaculate Reception, may have benefited from divine help another time, if nicknames are to be believed. They won a 1978 game on a “Holy Roller” fumble that took a long, winding route through running back Pete Banaszak’s hands toward a teammate in the end zone. “I believe in the Big Guy,” Banaszak later said. “He was there.”

Vallone hears that kind of talk a lot, from fans as well as players. He's even got a homily to go with it.

“If you want to believe God’s on your side in a football game or a soccer game, that’s fine, as long as you live your life on God’s side,” Vallone said.

Fans tailgating near the Immaculate Reception monument before the Steelers' Dec. 11 game against the Ravens could readily recite the moment-by-moment details of the play. That includes those who saw it live, and those who weren't even born then.

The 1972 game was subject to local blackout rules. But Buster Boots, living northwest of Pittsburgh in Ellwood City, recalled his family using a large antenna to catch the broadcast “on a big old 25-inch RCA TV with a picture coming in from Cleveland."

After the play, “we were going nuts,” he recalled. “We got to see it live.”

John Michael of nearby Aliquippa said he saw the Immaculate Reception in person. He said there's a good reason for the name.

“Probably because of Pittsburgh, you know,” he said. “A lot of ethnic groups, a lot of religions, a lot of churches and a lot of love.”

🏈 NFL: At 50, 'Immaculate Reception' still lifts a region's spirits

MANHATTAN&nbsp;– Fifth-year senior&nbsp;Keyontae&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;was honored for the second time this season as the&nbsp;Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday after his impressive performance in Kansas State’s 71-56 win over Nebraska in the Wildcat Classic.

Johnson, who earned Newcomer of the Week accolades after the first week of the season on Nov. 14, played perhaps his best all-around in game in helping the Wildcats (10-1) extend their best start to a season since 2016-17, with game-highs in points (23), rebounds (11) and steals (4) as he connected on 9-of-13 field goals, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.&nbsp;It was his seventh career double-double with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, while it was his 11th&nbsp;career 20-point contest. He has now scored in double figures in all 11 games this season.

A 6-foot-6, 230-pound forward from Norfolk, Va., Johnson leads the Wildcats in both scoring (17.8 ppg.) and rebounding (6.8&nbsp;rpg.) while he is second in steals (1.5&nbsp;spg.) and third in assists (2.3&nbsp;apg.) in&nbsp; He is connecting on a Big 12-best 60.3 percent (70-of-116) from the field, including 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from 3-point range, while hitting on 76.5 percent (39-of-51) from the free throw line. He ranks among the Big 12’s top-10 in six categories, including second in scoring, fifth in minutes (31.3 mpg.), sixth in rebounding and defensive rebounds (4.73), ninth in free throw percentage and 10th&nbsp;in offensive rebounds (2.09).

Johnson is the first Wildcat to capture Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice in the same season since&nbsp;Dean Wade&nbsp;did it on two occasions in 2015-16. Overall, it marks the school’s 34th Newcomer of the Week honor since the inception of the Big 12 in 1997, including the second under head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang. It is the third career weekly honor for Johnson, who was named the SEC Player of the Week on Nov. 25, 2019, while playing at Florida.

Johnson and fellow senior&nbsp;Markquis Nowell&nbsp;have combined for three Player of the Week honors.

K-State (10-1) returns home on Wednesday afternoon to face Radford (6-6) in the second game of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Bramlage Coliseum at 1:30 p.m., CT. It allowed the Chiefs to improve to 11-3 and clinch the AFC West for the seventh consecutive year, but it also left plenty of question marks as the playoffs approach. The biggest one is this: Can the Chiefs afford to play down to the level of the opposition and keep winning?

Dillon ran for two scores, Aaron Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers kept their playoff hopes afloat with a 24-12 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hasn’t announced the injury. Hurts has led the Eagles to a 13-1 mark and the best record in the NFL. The 24-year-old has morphed into a serious NFL MVP candidate in his second season as a starter.

TCU faces Michigan on Dec. 31 in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal. Robinson played three years but had two seasons of eligibility remaining because his freshman year was the COVID-19-altered 2020 season. Robinson is fourth on Texas' career rushing list. All three of the players ahead of him were top-five picks in the draft.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Tom Browning, an All-Star pitcher who threw the only perfect game in Cincinnati Reds history and helped them win the 1990 World Series title, has died. He was 62. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office announced Browning’s death on Twitter, saying he died Monday at his home in Union, Kentucky. No cause was given. The Sheriff’s Office said foul play is not suspected. The Reds issued a statement mourning Browning after being in contact with a member of his family, team spokesman Rob Butcher said. Known as a colorful character, Browning retired all 27 batters he faced in a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Riverfront Stadium on Sept. 16, 1988. He also won Game 3 of the 1990 World Series in Oakland.

IRVING, Texas&nbsp;– After matching her career-high with 26 points and leading the Kansas Jayhawks to a 10th-straight win to open the season, KU senior guard Zakiyah Franklin has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week. Franklin scored in double figures for the seventh-consecutive game as she totaled 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting to lead Kansas past Tulsa, 81-62 on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse. It was the second 20-point game of the season for Franklin, who ranks second on the team and seventh in the Big 12 with an average of 14.6 points per game. In the win over Tulsa, the Lakeland, Florida, native also surpassed the 1,100-point mark for her career and moved into 25th on KU’s all-time scoring list. Franklin has scored 1,118 points in her career as a Jayhawk. In addition to her scoring, Franklin pulled down five rebounds and recorded two assists and two steals against Tulsa. She is averaging a team-high 30.3 minutes per game this season. Franklin leads the Jayhawks with 29 assists, ranks fifth with nine steals and averages 3.5 rebounds per game for the year. HUTCHINSON, Kan.: (Transcript) 7:10am on BW Radio, time to turn to sports, Jerick&nbsp;McKinnon&nbsp;had a 26 yard touchdown run in overtime and the Chiefs got three touchdowns from Patrick Mahomes and a 32 to 24 win over Houston that clinches their seventh straight AFC West title. Their record now 11 and 3.

Mahomes throws for 336 yards and touchdown passes of 20 and four yards. He has 35 TD passes this season to become the fifth player in NFL history with 35 or more touchdown tosses in four or more seasons. Joining Tom Brady, who's done it six times. Aaron Rodgers six times. Drew Brees and Peyton Manning  each have done it 5 times.

Marquis Segal, a five foot 11 sophomore, defensive back from North Dakota State, announcing his intentions to transfer and continue his college career with the Wildcats, comes to K-State after recording 29 tackles and grabbing three interceptions during the past two seasons with the Bison. Played most of his time at corner will transfer to K-State and project as a safety. 

Argentina fans  around the world are likely still celebrating after star Lionel Messi led the national team to victory over France in what many are describing as the best World Cup final match ever played. HOUSTON (AP) — Jerick McKinnon had a 26-yard touchdown run in overtime and the Kansas City Chiefs got three touchdowns from Patrick Mahomes in a 30-24 win over the Houston Texans that clinched their seventh straight AFC West title. The Chiefs got the ball first in overtime but had to punt it away after Mahomes was sacked by Blake Cashman on third down. Texans quarterback Davis Mills fumbled on a scramble on Houston’s first play, and it was recovered by Kansas City’s Willie Gay on the Texans’ 26. McKinnon, who also had a TD reception, dashed untouched into the end zone on the next play.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Defensive end Chandler Jones grabbed a bizarre, unnecessary lateral by New England’s Jakobi Meyers out of the air on the final play and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown, giving the Las Vegas Raiders a 30-24 victory over the Patriots. With the game tied at 24-all, the Patriots decided to run a series of pitches in a last-ditch attempt to avoid overtime. Rhamondre Stevenson pitched the ball to Meyers, who heaved it across the field and into the arms of Jones. The burly pass-rusher stiff-armed Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and was untouched from there. The wild finish bailed out the Raiders, who led 17-3 at halftime before allowing the Patriots to score 21 straight points.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Rayshawn Jenkins intercepted Dak Prescott’s tipped pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown that gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a 40-34 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in overtime. Tre Herndon got a hand on Prescott’s low throw to Noah Brown. Jenkins made a shoelace grab and went untouched the other way to end Jacksonville’s 20-game skid against NFC teams. The Cowboys ended a four-game winning streak but later secured a playoff spot when the New York Giants beat Washington. Jacksonville, meanwhile, gained ground on Tennessee in the topsy-turvy AFC South.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Joe Burrow threw for four second-half touchdowns and the surging Cincinnati Bengals rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-23 for their sixth straight victory. The Bengals retained sole possession of first place in the AFC North, with Tre Flowers intercepting Brady to set up one touchdown and Logan Wilson sacking the seven-time Super Bowl champion to force a fumble that led to another TD. The first-place Bucs wasted an opportunity to take a two-game lead over Carolina, Atlanta and New Orleans, who all remain in contention for a division title in the NFC South despite being assured of finishing with losing records.

DALLAS (AP) — Keyonte George scored five straight points that gave Baylor the lead for good and finished with 19, as the 11th-ranked Bears beat Washington State 65-59 in the final game of Sunday’s Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge. Adam Flagler added 12 points for Baylor. Jabe Mullins, back in the lineup after missing four games with a knee injury, led the Cougars with 16 points off the bench. TJ Bamba scored 14 points and Justin Powell 12. Baylor was held to its second-lowest point total of the season.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Mike Miles scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half and No. 21 TCU rolled to an easy 88-43 win over Mississippi Valley State. TCU (9-1) has won seven consecutive games since a one-point loss to Northwestern State on Nov. 14 briefly knocked it out of The Associated Press Top 25. Damion Baugh and JaKobe Coles added 12 points apeice and Emanuel Miller finished with 11 points for TCU. Mississippi Valley State (1-11) was led by Rayquan Brown’s 16 points.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (AP) — Erik Stevenson scored a season-high 22 points, Jimmy Bell Jr. had a double-double, and West Virginia celebrated Bob Huggins Hall of Fame Day by defeating Buffalo 96-78. With 925 wins, Huggins is third all-time in Division I behind Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim. Down by double digits early in the second half, Buffalo hit three 3-pointers in four minutes and got within 61-60 with 11:40 remaining. Sports Headlines for Monday

HOUSTON (AP) — Wearing shirts that read “Conquered the West” and baseball caps commemorating their AFC West title, the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated winning the division for a seventh straight season after outlasting the Houston Texans in overtime Sunday.

Amid the jubilation, their star quarterback was quick to point out the feat was only the beginning of what they hope to do this season.

“When we start every season, the first thing we get told when we first walk in is let’s win the AFC West,” Patrick Mahomes said. "That’s our first goal ... (and) we accomplished our first goal.”

“I said: ‘I’m about to score,’” McKinnon said. “Juju (Smith-Schuster) looked at me and said: ‘I’ve got your block, bro. Just find me when you get out there’. And it worked out exactly like that.”

Houston (1-12-1) tied it at 24 on a 29-yard field goal with about five minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs had a chance to win it in regulation, but Harrison Butker’s 51-yard attempt was wide right.

Kansas City overcame two turnovers and a season-high 102 penalty yards to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Mills threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns sharing time at quarterback with Jeff Driskel. The Texans dropped their ninth straight game for their longest skid since losing the final 14 games of the 2013 season.

“That team out there has won one game but they’re not playing like that,” coach Lovie Smith said. “They’re showing up every day, taking coaching, getting better and coming into the game and giving ourselves a chance to win."

Kansas City’s streak of division titles is tied with the Rams (1973-79) for the second-longest in NFL history behind the Patriots, who captured 11 in a row in the AFC East from 2009-2019.

“I think one of the most difficult things in the National Football League is consistent success," Kansas City owner Clark Hunt said. "The rules are designed to make that difficult, whether that’s the draft or the salary cap. So, it’s a real testament to the job that general manager Brett Veach and coach Andy Reid have done over the last several years.”

The Chiefs trailed for much of the day and were behind by five early in the fourth quarter&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Chiefs/status/1604575019585404928?s=20&amp;t=hoGsNrx_n2wqAkDjbTa0Iw">when Mahomes dashed in from 5 yards out</a>. His 2-point conversion pass to McKinnon came next to give Kansas City a 24-21 lead.

Mahomes thew for 336 yards and had touchdown passes of 20 and 4 yards. He has 35 TD passes this season to become the fifth player in NFL history with 35 or more touchdown tosses in four or more seasons, joining Tom Brady (6), Aaron Rodgers (6), Drew Brees (4) and Peyton Manning (4).

Mahomes, who is from Tyler, Texas, and starred at Texas Tech, played his first NFL game in the state in his sixth professional season. The crowd was overwhelmingly made up of Chiefs fans, many of whom wore his No. 15 jersey. A handful donned his scarlet and black Texas Tech jersey.

The Chiefs piled up 502 yards to set a franchise record with their 19th straight game with at least 300 yards, and it was their ninth in a row with more than 400 yards.

Travis Kelce had 102 yards receiving and Smith-Schuster had 88 yards receiving for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs led 16-14 after a field goal early in the third and were driving again when Tremon Smith forced a fumble by Smith-Schuster that the Texans recovered near midfield. It wasn’t ruled a fumble initially, but Houston challenged the call and it was reversed.

Houston cashed in on the mistake when Mills threw a 12-yard TD to Jordan Akins on third down to make it 21-16.

Houston took a 7-0 lead when Mills connected with Teagan Quitoriano on an 8-yard TD throw late in the first quarter. That score was set up when the Chiefs were flagged for pass interference on third-and-10 two plays earlier to give the Texans a first down at the 4.

Mahomes connected with McKinnon for a 20-yard score on Kansas City’s next drive to tie it at 7-7.

Mario Addison forced a fumble by Isiah Pacheco later in the second quarter and the Texans recovered on the Kansas City 17. Two plays later&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1604552344615522304?s=20&amp;t=hoGsNrx_n2wqAkDjbTa0Iw">Mills scrambled 17 yards for a score</a>&nbsp;to put Houston on top 14-7.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught a 4-yard pass from Mahomes for a touchdown just before halftime, but the extra point sailed wide left to leave Houston up 14-13 at halftime.

He led the Blue Dragons in sacks this season with seven and also led the team in tackles for loss with 15.5. Taylor and his Hutchinson teammates played in the NJCAA Division I Championship game earlier this week, where they lost to Iowa Western, 31-0.

🏀 Johnson's 23 Points Helps K-State Power Past Nebraska

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Bryce Thompson made a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, and Oklahoma State beat Wichita State 59-49 on Saturday night.

Thompson made a 3-pointer and Tyreek Smith made consecutive jumpers to give the Cowboys their largest lead, 50-36, midway through the second half. Thompson's 3 made it 53-42 with 6:30 to play before Melvion Flanagan hit a pull-up jumper and two free throws, and Jaykwon Walton added two more from the free-throw line to pull the Shockers within 53-48 with 1:37 left. The Cowboys iced it from there, shooting 6 of 6 from the line.

Thompson was 7 of 17 from the field and had five assists. John-Michael Wright added 16 points with four 3-pointers for Oklahoma State (7-4).
