The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team served up 12 aces and held Cloud County to .088 hitting to rebound from Wednesday's 3-0 loss at Seward County with a 3-0 victory over the Thunderbirds on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson finished each set strong and rolled to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 victory to complete a season-sweep of the Thunderbirds with a pair of sweeps.

Playing their final home match for 18 days, the Blue Dragons improved to 17-9 overall and remained in second place in the Jayhawk Conference with an 8-3 record. The Blue Dragons travel to Pratt on Wednesday. Cloud County dropped to 19-7 overall and 5-5 in the KJCCC.

Hutchinson's service game stressed the Thunderbirds as the Blue Dragons had their 10th match of 10 or more aces. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/golden_taniya_wjj0">Taniya Golden</a>&nbsp;had a career-high six serves to lead Hutchinson at the service line. Freshman libero&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/rollandini_isabella_ircy">Isabella Rollandini</a>&nbsp;had three aces and sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/briseno_alejandra_xati">Alejandra Briseno</a>&nbsp;had two aces. The Blue Dragons had 12 aces to just five service errors.

The Blue Dragons' strong serve helped hold Cloud County to .088 hitting, the eighth time this season Hutchinson has held an opponent to less than a .100 attack percentage. The Dragons also sided out at a 64-percent clip. Cloud County sided out at just 46 percent.

Golden was the only Blue Dragon to reach double figures in kills with 14 kills on .233 hitting. Golden also had five digs.

Sophomore middle blocker&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/dean_anna_0g77">Anna Dean</a>&nbsp;hit .429 with seven kills on 14 swings. She had two block assists. Briseno also had seven kills on .182 hitting. She had four digs and two blocks. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/muff_callie_ayau">Callie Muff</a>&nbsp;had four kills.

The Blue Dragons hit .230 for the match. They had a season-low four blocks, but out-dug Cloud County 54-51.

Sophomore setter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/ravenhani_giovanna_k9db">Giovanna Ravanhani</a>&nbsp;set a balanced match with 33 assists. She had five digs and two block assists. Rollandini had a match-high 19 digs.

Jacey Schurle hit .417 with a team-high six kills to lead Cloud County.

SET 1: The Blue Dragons trailed 3-0, 6-3, 9-5 and 13-10 in the opening set. Hitting .275 in the first set, a Golden kill sparked the Dragons to a 4-1 run. Dean's kill tied the set at 13-all. A Doga Eski ace serve gave Cloud County a 17-15 lead and the Dragons took a timeout. Muff's kill out of the timeout sparked a 5-0 Hutchinson run. Briseno had a kill and Rollandini had two aces to give Hutchinson a 20-17 run. Leading 20-18, Briseno's kill started a set-clinching 5-2 run. Briseno clinched the set with an ace for a 25-19 victory.

SET 2: Hutchinson built a 7-3 lead in the first 10 rallies of the second set. A Brette Doile service ace pulled the Thunderbirds back within 11-10 and Cloud tied the set at 13 on a Dragon attack error. Tied at 14, A Dean kill started a 4-0 run. Briseno's second ace of the match gave Hutchinson an 18-14 lead and prompted a Cloud timeout. The Dragons outscored Cloud County 11-3 and the Dragons closed out the set with consecutive Golden ace serves for a 25-17 win.

🏐 HutchCC bounce back with sweep of Cloud County

EL DORADO – The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team earned its first victory at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex since 2014 on Saturday and moved into first place in the Jayhawk Conference.

Kaitllyn Edwards' ninth goal of the season came in the 24th minute and the Blue Dragon defense made it stand as Hutchinson defeated Butler 1-0.

Now 11-1-3 overall, the Blue Dragons take a slim one-point lead in the KJCCC over Barton with an 8-1-3 record for 27 points. Barton, which didn't play Saturday, has 26 league points at 8-1-2. Butler fell to 5-5-5 overall and 4-5-3 in league play.

Hutchinson plays host to Coffeyville for Pink-Out Night at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Hutchinson is 1-0-1 against Butler this season, earning its first victory on Butler's home pitch since October 7, 2014 when Renee Gillespie's overtime goal gave the Dragons a 2-1 victory.

The Blue Dragons earned a first-half corner kick.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/delgado_adriana_03x3">Adriana Delgado</a>&nbsp;delivered a perfect kick into the box and Edwards headed past Butler goalkeeper Carla Apodaca with 21:14 to play in the first half to give the Dragons the lead. The goal turned out to be Edwards' third game-winning goal of the season. Delgado tallied her fifth assist of the season.

Butler outshot Hutchinson 6-1 in the first half and banged two shots off the crossbar in the first 45 minutes.

The Blue Dragons limited Butler to just four shot attempts in the second half and Slothower had to make just one of her four saves in the second half. The Grizzlies had a pair of late corner kicks, but weren't able to develop a scoring chance.

This was Hutchinson's first shutout of Butler since the 2011 Region VI Championship game, a 1-0 double-overtime victory in Topeka. This was Hutchinson's fourth 1-0 victory over Butler in series history.

The shutout was Slothower's seventh of the season, which tied her with Clara Burgmuller (2017) for the sixth-most shutouts by a Blue Dragon true freshman and tied her for eighth on the Hutchinson single-season shutout list.

Now with 70 saves for the season, Slothower is now third on the Blue Dragon freshman list and fourth on the single-season list for saves.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter, one to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-kansas-city-kelce-e97f370dc8931de37cc0875dd53cf46d">Travis Kelce</a>&nbsp;after the All-Pro tight end briefly left the game with an&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-travis-kelce-injury-c8292645dc17ed7c15687a394311e977">ankle injury</a>, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings 27-20 on Sunday.

Mahomes went 31 for 41 for 281 yards and no turnovers in his most efficient performance of the season for the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (4-1), who once again won while not at their best.

“There's a lot of young guys out there, and we're going to keep everybody moving and going in the right direction,” said Mahomes, who completed passes to 10 different receivers. “I think by the end of the year we're going to be dangerous, because you're not going to know who's going to get those opportunities throughout the game.”

Kirk Cousins threw for scores to Jordan Addison and Alexander Mattison for the Vikings (1-4). They had two chances at the tying touchdown in the final five minutes, but a late&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/vikings-justin-jefferson-hamstring-injury-8ee0680fa47856710f052b9722e0b341">hamstring injury to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson</a>&nbsp;and a lack of timeouts from earlier mismanagement of the game were ultimately too much to overcome.

Jefferson slipped on the turf while trying to make a cut on his route during a third-down pass deep in Kansas City territory. He grabbed the back of his right leg and limped slowly to the sideline.

Mahomes hit Justin Watson with a 33-yard heave on third-and-18 from his own 17 to extend the Chiefs' first possession of the second half. The two-time MVP finished that drive with a tiebreaking 8-yard scoring toss to Rashee Rice.

“We were backed up," Mahomes said. “That really could've changed the game.”

Kelce, whose rumored girlfriend Taylor Swift was not in attendance after the superstar singer attended the Chiefs' previous two games, fell awkwardly to the turf after catching a pass in the second quarter and went for X-rays. He watched the first possession after halftime from the sideline and went back in for the next one.

With coordinator Steve Spagnuolo sending plenty of extra rushers at Cousins, the defense was the catalyst for the Chiefs. Jefferson was held to three catches and 28 yards, both season lows, with cornerback L'Jarius Sneed leading the effort from the secondary.

“They played exceptionally today,” said Chris Jones, who had one of the three sacks and three of the 12 hits on Cousins. “Hats off go to those guys.”

All four of Minnesota's losses have come by eight points or fewer this year after a record 11 wins in 11 one-score games in 2022. The Vikings lost a fumble on their opening possession, again, a turnover by tight end Josh Oliver that the Chiefs recovered at the Minnesota 45. Isaiah Pacheco's touchdown run capped the drive and gave Kansas City the early lead.

The Vikings have an NFL-most 12 turnovers, including eight lost fumbles.

“We need to protect the football, and we need to make plays when they are there,” Cousins said.

After Cousins connected with Mattison on a 9-yard touchdown pass that pulled the Vikings within seven points with 12:11 left, the defense did its part by forcing punts on both of the Chiefs' possessions.

The Vikings had fourth-and-7 at the 19 with 4:54 remaining and took a delay of game penalty. Then Cousins chucked the ball into the end zone near Addison as he was hit on a cornerback blitz by Trent McDuffie. Addison collided with Sneed, but the initial flag for defensive pass interference was waved off.

“I feel like I had my head back,” Sneed said.

The Vikings regained possession with 1:07 to go at their 19, but Cousins was under heavy pressure. On the final play from the Chiefs 38, he was sacked by Mike Danna.

The victory gave Mahomes at least one against every opponent in the league. The Vikings were the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-vikings-mahomes-preview-e81e04c72cffa5a82f84226021e77bc0">only team he'd never beaten</a>&nbsp;in six years as Kansas City's starter. This was the first time he'd ever faced the team that plays in the city where his father, Pat Mahomes, pitched for the Minnesota Twins.

Chiefs: LB Nick Bolton (ankle) was sidelined for the third straight game, replaced by Drue Tranquill.

Vikings: CB Akayleb Evans (knee) limped off in the third quarter. ... QB Nick Mullens (back) was inactive, elevating rookie Jaren Hall to the backup spot for Cousins.

DENVER (AP) -&nbsp;The New York Jets celebrated Nathaniel Hackett's return to Denver by rallying past the Broncos 31-21 on Sunday behind Breece Hall's 72-yard touchdown run and Bryce Hall's 39-yard game-sealing scoop-and-score off Russell Wilson's fumble in the final minute.

That gave Hackett, the Jets' offensive coordinator who was fired after going 4-11 as Denver's head coach last season, a measure of satisfaction. Especially after new Broncos coach Sean Payton trashed him during training camp for the job he'd done in Denver, particularly the way he handled Wilson during the quarterback's dismal 2022 season

The Jets (2-3) overcame a sloppy, chippy first half to snap a three-game skid and hand the Broncos (1-4) their third home loss under Payton, who drew widespread criticism for excoriating Hackett in an interview with USA Today in July.

After the game, the&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/nyjets/status/1711162062758363474?s=20">Jets took their own swipe at Payton</a>&nbsp;in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter: “when you lose to the 'offseason champs'” — including a photo of comedian Kevin James, who portrayed Payton in a movie.

Although Wilson has returned to form under Payton's tutelage, the Broncos are plagued by many of the same problems for which Payton blasted Hackett, and in the second half, the boobirds got as loud as they ever did last year.

The Broncos went three and out on four of their first five drives after halftime and the other possession resulted in a lost fumble on the second snap.

Then, Wilson led the Broncos to a touchdown and 2-point conversion to make it 24-21 late in the fourth quarter. Patrick Surtain II’s interception of Zach Wilson’s pass to Garrett Wilson gave the Broncos the ball back at their 3 with 2:14 left and the Broncos were nearly in field goal range when Quincy Williams strip-sacked Russell Wilson.

The ball popped loose toward the Jets sideline and Bryce Hall left the receiver he was covering, scooped up the bouncing ball and sealed it with his touchdown return.

Fans streamed to the exits after that turnover and it was eerily mostly empty while Jets players hugged Hackett on the sideline.

Russell Wilson was 20 of 31 for 196 yards and two TDs.

The Jets had erased a 13-8 halftime deficit with a touchdown and three field goals to take control at 24-13 before Russell Wilson's 3-yard TD toss to tight end Adam Trautman and fullback Michael Burton's 2-point conversion run pulled the Broncos to 24-21 with 4:44 remaining.

Breece Hall's long TD run up the middle came on the Jets' second snap of the second half and put them ahead for good at 15-13.

It was nearly a year ago when Hall's promising rookie season ended at this very stadium when he blew out his left knee after scampering for a 62-yard touchdown. Coach Robert Saleh said earlier in the week Hall no longer had snap restrictions.

Hall ran for 177 yards on 22 carries Sunday, a whopping 8 yards per carry. Zach Wilson, making his fourth straight start in place of the injured Aaron Rodgers, was 19 of 26 for 199 yards and the interception.

Jets: lost their best O-lineman when RT Alijah Vera-Tucker left with a calf injury in the second half.

Broncos: lost DT D.J. Jones to a knee injury he suffered in the second quarter.

Jets: play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Broncos: visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

Georgia Tech got the ball back with 26 seconds remaining after referees ruled that Miami running back Don Chaney fumbled the ball at the Yellow Jackets' 26-yard line after the Hurricanes decided not to take a knee on that play to essentially run out the clock. And Georgia Tech (3-3, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) turned that mistake into a miracle.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Devin Neal rushed for 154 yards on just 12 carries and Daniel Hishaw ran for another 134 yards and two touchdowns as Kansas dominated UCF 51-22 in a Big 12 Conference battle on Saturday.

On the day Kansas inducted Tony Sands, the school's second all-time leading rusher, into the ring of honor, Neal passed four players to move into ninth on the all-time list as the Jayhawks (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) rushed for 399 yards.

“Tony was in the locker room after the game,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “I asked him what he thought of our offensive performance. Tony gave us a thumbs-up.”

Neal, a Lawrence native who grew up watching Kansas football, was thrilled to be included on a list that features Gayle Sayers and John Riggins at sixth and seventh, respectively.

“That's special to be part of a list like that,” he said. “It's everything that I dreamed of.

"Who doesn't want to be a part of something so special, a part of history. But it wasn't my main focus (coming in). My main focus was turning this thing around.”

UCF (3-3, 0-3 Big 12) welcomed back starting quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, who missed three games with an undisclosed leg injury. He was just 3-of-7 for 33 yards. Backup Timmy McClain was 12-of-15 for 136 yards and two scores.

“This is a really good bounce-back for us,” Leipold said. “I didn't know how we would handle it after last week (a 40-14 loss at Texas). (UCF has) a high-speed offense. You could see glimpses of how dangerous they are.”

UCF head coach Gus Malzahn was not pleased.

“That was obviously a disappointing loss,” he said. “The first half was embarrassing from an offensive standpoint. Defensively, not being able to stop the run was one of the stories of the game.”

Kansas was without its starting quarterback, Jalon Daniels, for the second straight week and third time this season. Daniels, the preseason Big 12 offensive player of the year, missed the game with a back injury. Backup Jason Bean was 8-of-12 for 91 yards.

“Jason did what we asked him to do," Leipold said. “We told Jason and our receivers that this was going to be a run-emphasis game. They needed to do their jobs and accept that, and I thought they did.”

Already up 24-0 at intermission, Neal took a handoff on the first play from scrimmage in the second half and raced 75 yards untouched for a 31-0 lead.

But Kansas is not satisfied with shutting down the Knights for a half.

“I don't think we demoralized them enough,” defensive end Austin Booker said. “They came back in the second half. I feel like we should have done our job a little longer. We need to start finishing games.”

The Knights finally reached the end zone on a four-play, 75-yard drive in the third quarter. McClain hit Alec Holler with a 13-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion failed.

Kansas responded with a 75-yard drive to stretch the lead to 37-8. Dylan McDuffie punched in from the 1-yard line. The extra point attempt was botched and UCF returned it 91 yards for 2 points.

UCF cut it to 37-15 with a touchdown by RJ Harvey, but Hishaw's second touchdown gave the Jayhawks a 44-15 lead. UCF's final touchdown was a 23-yard pass from McClain to Randy Pittman.

Kansas got a 25-yard Seth Keller field goal on its first drive. Bean found Lawrence Arnold for a 5-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the second quarter to put Kansas up 10-0. Hishaw extended the lead with a 3-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter and Trevor Wilson returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown and a 24-0 lead.

UCF: the Knights are still stinging from blowing a 35-7 lead over Baylor late in the third quarter. UCF gave up 60 unanswered points over two games: 29 straight to lose 36-35 to Baylor and 31 straight to start this game.

Kansas: the Jayhawks didn't let a tough loss at Texas last week carry over. The Jayhawks dominated from the start.

UCF: the Knights are off next weekend before traveling to play Oklahoma in Norman on Oct. 21.

Kansas: the Jayhawks will face Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., next Saturday.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson (6-0, 3-0) stayed perfect on the season after a 46-10 victory over No. 11 Dodge City (3-3, 3-1) Saturday afternoon in Gowans Stadium.

The Dragons and Conquistadors were deadlocked at 3 after the teams exchanged field goals in the first quarter.

With five minutes gone in the second quarter, Dragon special teams wreaked havoc on the Conquistador punting unit.

Four-consecutive false starts by the Dodge City line pinned the Conqs back at their own 1. Rather than risk a blocked kick in the end zone, punter Caleb Sedegan stepped out the back of the end zone for a safety.

The safety began a string of 36 unanswered points from Hutchinson Community College.

Backup quarterback Jake Parker got the start Saturday and found ManMan Singleton for a 31-yard score.

Parker finished 11-of-25 for 156 yards with one touchdown and an interception.

"Whoever's out there, I feel like we can win ballgames," head coach Drew Dallas said of starting his backup quarterback. "The more reps he can get, the better off he'll be," Dallas said of Parker.

Defensive back Malik McConico then got his first of two interceptions in the second quarter.

The Dragons scored on the next possession when Tyrell Reed scored his first of four touchdowns on the day.

His first strike came from four yards out. McConico picked off Dodge City quarterback Trey Jefferson on the next possession and Reed scored from five yards away.

Nestus Burger closed out first-half scoring with a school-record 50-yard field goal.

He wasn't the only Dragon kicker to reach a milestone Saturday.

Starting kicker Cole Segraves connected from 46-yards out later in the contest for a personal record and a program's best 20th field goal made in his Dragon career, beating the 19 set by Luke Niemeyer in 2016-17.

"They've been pushing each other to make each other better all season," Dallas said of his kickers.

Segraves finished the game 2-of-3 with a long of 46, only missing from 35 in the second quarter. He was 5-for-5 on extra points.

Burger hit his only field-goal attempt from 50 and kicked off nine times with three touchbacks.

Reed tallied at least three rushing touchdowns for the third time this season and has seven rushing touchdowns in the last two games.

Reed finished with 115 yards on only 10 touches, including a 71-yard electrifying run with 3:23 remaining.

"He makes the most of those carries," Dallas said of Reed's maximum success on minimal touches.

Reed's other touchdown came at the beginning of the third quarter when he broke off a 22-yard score.

The Dragon defense held Dodge City to 59 yards rushing (1.3 yards per attempt). Hutchinson sacked Dodge City quarterbacks six times.

"(I'm) pleased with our execution for the most part," Dallas said, saying there would be a few things to clean up during the bye week. "Only allowing 59 yards of rushing is pretty special." The Conqs entered the game averaging 107.6 yards on the ground per contest.

Dodge City finally reached pay dirt on a Stone Wilson 4-yard run with 4:49 left. The TD came compliments of a defensive pass interference penalty and a personal foul that gave the Conqs first-and-goal from the 7.

Dodge City mustered 218 total yards to the 345 put up by Hutchinson.

FINAL: Hutchinson 46 Dodge City 10

The Dragons are the only undefeated team left in the Jayhawk Conference.

No. 1 Hutchinson has a bye next week before returning to Gowans to face Garden City (3-4, 2-2) on Oct. 21.

Fort Hays State Football returns to MIAA play on Saturday at Missouri Southern in Joplin. The Tigers and Lions both enter the contest at 3-2 overall. FHSU played its lone non-conference game of the season last week, a 71-3 win over Lincoln University on Homecoming. The Tigers enter Saturday at 2-2 in the MIAA, while all five of the Lions' contests have been in MIAA play. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.

Fort Hays State owns an 18-14-1 advantage in the all-time series between the teams, including a 10-4 mark in MIAA play that began back in 2006. The Tigers held an eight-game win streak in the series until it was snapped last year in Hays with a Missouri Southern victory by a score of 25-24. FHSU still owns a five-game win streak against MSSU in Joplin, which goes back to 2009. Missouri Southern's only win in MIAA play against FHSU in Joplin occurred during the 2007 season in a low-scoring 6-0 battle.

Fort Hays State is coming off a win over Lincoln University last week in Hays, while Missouri Southern is coming off a three-point loss at Central Oklahoma. Four of Missouri Southern's five games this year have been decided by seven points or less, with its only outlier being a 42-0 win over Northeastern State. FHSU also shutout Northeastern State to open the season by a score of 56-0.

Both teams have shown strong defense this season. FHSU leads the MIAA in scoring defense, allowing just 15.4 points per game. The Lions are also holding opponents to less than 20 per game at 19.4 points per game. FHSU ranks second in the MIAA in total defense, allowing 270.8 yards per game, while the Lions are third at 317.4 per game. MSSU allowed at least 30 points in both of its losses this season. FHSU held opponents under 10 points in each of its wins this season. This game features the top three tacklers in the MIAA so far this season, including Colton Winder (45 tackles) and Halid Djibril (42 tackles) of Missouri Southern and John Johnson&nbsp;(37 tackles) of Fort Hays State.

FHSU quarterback Jack Dawson&nbsp;ranks third in the MIAA in passing yards (1,280), passing touchdowns (13), and passing yards per game (256.0). Tiger receiver Jayden Horace&nbsp;ranks fourth in the conference in receiving yards (334), receiving yards per game (66.8), and fourth in receiving touchdowns (5).&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Tigers and Lions both enter the contest at 3-2 overall. FHSU played its lone non-conference game of the season last week, a 71-3 win over Lincoln University on Homecoming. The Tigers enter Saturday at 2-2 in the MIAA, while all five of the Lions' contests have been in MIAA play. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.Fort Hays State owns an 18-14-1 advantage in the all-time series between the teams, including a 10-4 mark in MIAA play that began back in 2006. The Tigers held an eight-game win streak in the series until it was snapped last year in Hays with a Missouri Southern victory by a score of 25-24. FHSU still owns a five-game win streak against MSSU in Joplin, which goes back to 2009. Missouri Southern's only win in MIAA play against FHSU in Joplin occurred during the 2007 season in a low-scoring 6-0 battle.Fort Hays State is coming off a win over Lincoln University last week in Hays, while Missouri Southern is coming off a three-point loss at Central Oklahoma. Four of Missouri Southern's five games this year have been decided by seven points or less, with its only outlier being a 42-0 win over Northeastern State. FHSU also shutout Northeastern State to open the season by a score of 56-0.Both teams have shown strong defense this season. FHSU leads the MIAA in scoring defense, allowing just 15.4 points per game. The Lions are also holding opponents to less than 20 per game at 19.4 points per game. FHSU ranks second in the MIAA in total defense, allowing 270.8 yards per game, while the Lions are third at 317.4 per game. MSSU allowed at least 30 points in both of its losses this season. FHSU held opponents under 10 points in each of its wins this season. This game features the top three tacklers in the MIAA so far this season, including Colton Winder (45 tackles) and Halid Djibril (42 tackles) of Missouri Southern and John Johnson&nbsp;(37 tackles) of Fort Hays State.FHSU quarterback Jack Dawson&nbsp;ranks third in the MIAA in passing yards (1,280), passing touchdowns (13), and passing yards per game (256.0). Tiger receiver Jayden Horace&nbsp;ranks fourth in the conference in receiving yards (334), receiving yards per game (66.8), and fourth in receiving touchdowns (5).&nbsp;&nbsp;

HAYSVILLE, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Salthawks scored four rushing touchdowns on its way to a 49-21 win over the Campus Colts on Friday at Colt Stadium.

The win marked the second straight victory for Hutchinson (4-2, 4-1 AVCTL) after a 57-14 win over Salina South last Friday.

The Salthawks got on the board first, as Robert Hunter ran it in from two yards out with 8:26 left in the first quarter. The 11-yard scoring drive was made possibly by Jax Heneha who intercepted the Campus (1-5, 1-3) pass on its first drive of the game.

Campus responded with a 62-yard passing touchdown to tie the game at seven with 7:36 to play in the first quarter.

Hutchinson responded by scoring the next 28 points to build a 35-7 lead and never looked back.

Robert Hunter connected with Devon Spiller on a 16-yard touchdown pass, plus touchdown runs by Kade Smith (14 yds), Zion Burgess (6 yds) and Terrell King (83 yds) helped open up the lead.

Campus scored on a 40-yard touchdown run to pull within 35-14. That quickly changed to a four score lead once again, as King took the ensuing kickoff back for a score from 85 yards away to give the Salthawks a 42-14 lead.

Smith added a second rushing score of 29 yards in the third quarter to give the Salthawks a 49-14 lead.

Campus scored one final time in the fourth quarter on a reverse flea flicker pass for a score to get within 49-21.

The Salthawks will host the Maize Eagles on Friday for senior night at Gowans Stadium, while the Colts travel to Newton.

The NJCAA top-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team returns to Gowans Stadium Saturday afternoon to take on its fourth nationally ranked opponent of the season.

The No. 1 Blue Dragons (5-0, 2-0 KJCCC) play host to the No. 11-ranked Dodge City Conquistadors (3-2, 3-0) in a battle of the top two teams in the Jayhawk Conference football standings. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Countdown to Kickoff. The game will be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 12:30 p.m.

According to records, Saturday's meeting will be the first between Hutchinson and Dodge City as ranked opponents. The closest that has occurred in the series' 92-game history was 2015 when the Blue Dragons were No. 8 and Dodge City was receiving votes.

The Blue Dragons are 3-0 against ranked competition in 2023 after a 43-16 victory over No. 10 Butler last Saturday in El Dorado. The Dragons rushed for 354 yards with three players reaching 100 or more yards on the ground.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/reed_jr._tyrell_3b4y">Tyrell Reed Jr.</a>&nbsp;led the way with 117 yards and three touchdowns.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/collier_samari_cpv0">Samari Collier</a>&nbsp;rushed for 103 yards and Brandon Epton had 100 yards. Both Collier and Epton scored touchdowns.

Dodge City comes off an impressive 33-10 victory over Garden City last Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Conquistador running back Jalen Smith rushed for 122 yards as Dodge City amassed 308 total yards in their first victory over the Broncbusters since 2015.

Saturday's game features two of the top defenses in the nation. The Blue Dragons lead the Jayhawk Conference and are No. 2 in the NJCAA in scoring defense at 5.7 points per game. The Dragons are sixth in the NJCAA in total defense at 213.2 yards per game allowed. Dodge City ranks sixth in scoring defense at 15.2 points allowed and 13th in the NJCAA in total defense at 263.2 yards per game allowed.

The Blue Dragons bid for their seventh-straight victory in the series over Dodge City and their seventh 6-0 start to a season in program history.
