
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday night at Hobart-Detter Field to set the tone of scoring a bunch of runs early to defeat Newton 15-2 in a run-rule win.
Combined with outstanding pitching by Brock Rod who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning plus solid relief by Carson Cornelius, Hutch was on cruise mode for most of the night.
Camden Johnson went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI's along with Jaden Gustafson's 3 for 5 night with two RBI to lead the Monarchs in hitting.
Jack Gardner had a solo home run to left-center in the sixth for one of Newton's two runs.
Hutchinson (20-7) travel to Derby (18-9) Thursday night before returning home for games Friday and Saturday against the Diamond Kings. First pitch will be at 7 p.m. for all three games.
