OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Luis Medina held down Kansas City to get his first victory in more than 11 months and the Oakland Athletics won their second straight game following a nine-game skid, beating the Royals 5-1 on Wednesday night.

Medina (1-2) had lost five straight decisions since beating Boston on July 18 last season but was sharp against the struggling Royals. He allowed one run on an RBI double by Bobby Witt Jr. and six hits in 5 2/3 innings for the win in front of an announced crowd of 4,557 fans.

“All the time when I go out there, I'm just trying to do a good job and help my teammates,” Medina said. “Every game we try to make an adjustment and try to be better every day. Every time I go out there, I'm trying to put my team in a good situation.”

Brett Rooker hit a pair of RBI singles, Miguel Andujar had three hits and an RBI and Zack Gelof hit a solo homer to provide the offense for Oakland. Medina and the bullpen did the rest, giving the A’s their first back-to-back wins since a six-game winning streak that ended May 4.

A's relievers threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings, ending a streak of 13 games that the bullpen allowed at least one run.

The Royals have lost eight of their last 10 games, including back-to-back games against an A's team that has the second worst record in the American League .

Ragans pitched well, allowing only four hits in six innings but ran into trouble in the third inning when he walked Max Schuemann and JJ Bleday to open the frame. Andujar and Rooker followed with singles to make to give Oakland a 2-0 lead.

“His stuff was good,” manager Matt Quatraro said. “Those walks came back to haunt him there in the third inning. They capitalized on those and that’s all he gave up. His stuff was really good. He gave us six solid innings, two runs, and gave us a chance to win.”

Andujar has 10 multi-hit games since coming off the injured list May 24, providing a big boost after starting the year on the injured list recovering from knee surgery.

“He's just a hitter,” manager Mark Kotsay said. “You don't see these types of hitters that often in the current game that just have bat to ball skills, along with the ability to hit it with some force and exit velo. We talked about the impact he could have once we got him back. Ten multi-hit games is an impact to the offense and a real positive to the middle of the order.”

After Witt's double got Kansas City on the board in the fifth, the A's got some insurance in the seventh inning with RBI singles to Rooker and Tyler Nevin against John Schreiber to make it 4-1.

Gelof added his seventh homer of the season in the eighth inning.

Royals: RHP Dan Altavilla left in the eighth inning after hurting his back after throwing ball four to Schuemann. There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury.

Athletics: INF Abraham Toro is dealing with shoulder soreness from a swing on Sunday and was held out of the lineup. Kotsay said he's hopeful Toro can avoid a stint on the IL.

RHP Seth Lugo (10-2, 2.40 ERA) looks for his Major League-leading 11th win when he starts the series finale for Kansas City against RHP Mitch Spence (4-3, 3.95).

Bryce Boettcher (Oregon), Vance Honeycutt (North Carolina), Ryley Johnson (East Carolina), Kyle Jones (Stetson) and Garrett Scavelli (St. John's) joined Jones as the six outfielders that were voted on and selected as finalists by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America &amp; Coach of the Year Committee.

A native of Greenbrier, Tennessee, Jones was one of the Big 12's top defensive players this season with a .994 fielding percentage. In three seasons at K-State, he has committed only two errors for an incredible career fielding percentage of .993 with 289 putouts and seven assists.

Jones finished his junior campaign as the Conference leader in stolen bases (40) and walks (55), which rank fifth and 19th&nbsp;nationally in both categories, while he was third with 69 runs scored. He earned All-Big 12 recognition as he produced a slash line of .303/.442/.500 during the Cats' historic 2024 season, that included a .368 average in the NCAA Tournament where he scored a team-best eight runs.

Additionally, Jones sits in the Top 10 of the K-State single-season records in three offensive categories – tied first in walks, second in runs scored, second in stolen bases. BUHLER, Kan. — Matt Babcock, Buhler High tennis coach was named Kansas Coaches Association Tennis Coach of the Year for all classes in Kansas. 

 Buhler won the boys state tennis championship in 4A this year.

The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native is one of 21 athletes on the 2024 Team Canada roster.&nbsp;Team Canada&nbsp;is set to compete in the P5 Colorado event, hosted by Triple Crown Sports and College Sports Evaluation from June 26-28 in Fort Collins, Colo. Following the P5 Colorado Event, they will showcase their skills at the Canada Cup from July 1-7, in Surrey B.C.
 
Wong is just the second Shocker softball student-athlete to represent Wichita State on a National Team, and the first on Team Canada.&nbsp;<dfn style="text-align: start;color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size: 16px;"><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/softball/roster/sydney-mckinney/7236" rel="smarttag" style="color: black;">Sydney McKinney</a></dfn>&nbsp;was named to Team USA for the Japan All-Star Series in 2022.
 
The roster boasts a blend of seasoned and emerging talent, including six members from Canada&apos;s 2020 Olympic softball team and 13 athletes from the 2023 WBSC World Cup Group Stage, where their efforts secured Canada&apos;s spot in the World Cup Finals.
 
The team also includes 16 athletes who competed in last year&apos;s Canada Cup, while five new faces will make their debut for the Canadian Women&apos;s National Team.
 
The coaching staff made their selections after holding two regional identification camps and one final selection camp.

He hit more than 600 home runs, totaled more than 3,000 hits and was a joy to behold in the outfield. His over-the shoulder catch of a long drive in the 1954 World Series is baseball’s most celebrated defensive feat. He had been baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer.

Tim Anderson followed with an RBI infield single, tying it at 8-all. Otto Lopez’s groundout advanced Gordon and Anderson before Bruján's liner to center field gave Miami its sixth walk-off win of the season. Sánchez homered, doubled and singled, while Christian Bethancourt also went deep for the Marlins. Paul Goldschmidt, Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson homered for the Cardinals.

(AP) — Connor Hults pitched 4 1/3 innings of shutout relief to thwart North Carolina’s comeback bid, and Jaxson West and Max Williams hit back-to-back homers in the ninth for insurance as Florida State beat the Tar Heels 9-5 in an elimination game at the College World Series. The Seminoles will play No. 1 national seed Tennessee on Wednesday. They would have to beat the Volunteers then and again Thursday to reach the finals for the first time since 1999. The Tar Heels lost consecutive games for the first time since mid-April and went 1-2 in their first CWS since 2018.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas is making a serious run at becoming the new home for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. State legislators approved a plan Tuesday for luring both the Chiefs and Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals away from Missouri. Bipartisan legislative supermajorities OKed a measure to authorize state bonds to help finance new stadiums and practice facilities for both teams on the Kansas side of the metropolitan area. The plan goes next to Gov. Laura Kelly. He has not promised to sign it but said in a statement that Kansas could become a professional sports powerhouse. Both teams said they look forward to considering Kansas options.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Connor McDavid had two goals and two assists that added to his historic postseason, Evan Bouchard added three assists and the Edmonton Oilers fended off elimination yet again by beating the Florida Panthers 4-3 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night. Connor Brown, Zach Hyman and Corey Perry also had goals for the Oilers, who scored the game’s first three goals to take control — then held on late to cut Florida’s lead in the title series to 3-2. Evan Rodrigues and Matthew Tkachuk each had a goal and an assist for Florida, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also scored for the Panthers. Game 6 is in Edmonton on Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Regan Smith has set a world record in the women's 100-meter backstroke at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials in Indianapolis. Smith touched in 57.13 seconds, easily beating the mark of 57.33 set a year ago by Australia’s Kaylee McKeown. Smith bounced back emphatically after getting edged for a spot on the U.S. team in the 100 butterfly, where she finished third behind Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske. No one was beating Smith in her signature event. Katharine Berkoff claimed the second Olympic spot with a time of 57.91. In the night's other final, reigning Olympic champion Bobby Finke won the 800 freestyle, holding off teenager Luke Whitlock.

The plan from the Republican-controlled Legislature goes next to Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. While she stopped short of promising to sign it, she said in a statement that “Kansas now has the opportunity to become a professional sports powerhouse.”

Both the Chiefs and the Royals said they look forward to considering Kansas options. The lease on the Missouri complex with their side-by-side stadiums runs through January 2031, but both have said they already should have been planning for the future.

“We’re excited about what happened here today,” Korb Maxwell, an attorney for the Chiefs who lives on the Kansas side, said at the Statehouse after the bill cleared the Legislature. “This is incredibly real.”

The approval capped a two-month push to capitalize on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-royals-kansas-city-stadiums-e9605296b85e91699441e4ba10e83212">the refusal in April</a>&nbsp;by voters on the Missouri side to continue a local sales tax used to finance the upkeep of the teams' stadiums.

Backers of the plan brushed aside decades of research by economists concluding that government subsidies for professional sports stadiums&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/sports-stadiums-public-funding-nfl-mlb-a81d825286530bb95f227efc99f2e9d3">are not worth the cost</a>. They also overcame criticism that lawmakers were moving too quickly.

A spokeswoman for Missouri Gov. Mike Parson did not immediately respond to an email message seeking comment. But in Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas promised to “lay out a good offer” to keep both teams in town.

“Today was largely, in my opinion, about leverage,” Lucas said. “And the teams are in an exceptional leverage position.”

Some Kansas officials reached the same conclusion.

“I think the Chiefs and the Royals are using us,” said state Rep. Susan Ruiz, a Kansas City-area Democrat.

The votes on the Kansas stadium-financing plan were&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kslegislature.org/li_2024s/b2023_24/measures/vote_view/je_20240618140409_302207/">84-38</a>&nbsp;in the state House and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kslegislature.org/li_2024s/b2023_24/measures/vote_view/je_20240618180827_709784/">27-8</a>&nbsp;in the Senate. Lawmakers from across the state — even western Kansas, far from any new stadium — supported the measure.

It would allow state bonds to cover up to 70% of each new stadium, paying them off over 30 years with revenues from sports betting, state lottery ticket sales and new sales and alcohol taxes collected from shopping and entertainment districts around the new stadiums.

House Commerce Committee Chair Sean Tarwater, a Kansas City-area Republican, said the Chiefs still are likely to spend $500 million to $700 million in private funds on a new stadium.

“There are no blank checks,” Tarwater told GOP colleagues during a briefing.

Legislators debated the plan during a one-day special session called by Kelly to have them consider reducing taxes after she&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-budget-tax-cuts-veto-9ebddf96cd35b614d8e96f2d8b8939c2">vetoed three tax-cutting plans</a>&nbsp;before legislators adjourned their regular annual session May 1.

Republican leaders had promised that the stadium proposal wouldn’t come up until the Legislature first approved a plan to cut income and property taxes by&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tax-cuts-kansas-special-legislative-session-b79d213f1a904dfd7604648ea9d2c454">a total of $1.23 billion</a>&nbsp;over the next three years. Many lawmakers argued that voters would be angry if the state helped finance new stadiums without cutting taxes.

With the tax bill passed, the stadium plan gained support even from lawmakers who saw it as a handout for wealthy team owners. Some said failing to act risked pushing the teams to leave the Kansas City area, and a few said they had wanted the Chiefs in Kansas since childhood.

“It is amazing to me the speed with which we can solve problems when they're oriented around wealth, when they’re oriented around business,” said state Rep. Jason Probst, a Democrat from central Kansas.

“This is the system that we’re stuck in, so if we choose to opt out of that system, we will lose every time,” he said.

Economists who study pro sports teams have concluded in dozens of studies that a new stadium and shopping-and-entertainment area merely takes existing economic activity away from elsewhere in a community, resulting in little or no net gain.

“It could still help Kansas and maybe hurt Missouri by the same amount,” said Andrew Zimbalist, an economics professor at Smith college in central Massachusetts who has written multiple books about sports. “It’s a zero-sum game.”

A skeptical state Sen. Molly Baumgardner, a Kansas City-area Republican, used a Christmas Eve metaphor to characterize supporters' excitement before she voted no.

"There are visions of sugar plums,” Baumgardner said.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama TV station reports that Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs bond has been revoked following a second arrest in less than a month.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wvtm13.com/article/isaiah-buggs-domestic-violence-arrest-alabama/61148556">WVTM reports</a> that Buggs is said in court records to have broken into a residence with a tire iron and that he dragged a woman, said to be the mother of his child, down a flight of stairs and caused minor injuries.

Buggs' attorney said his client denies the allegations and charges against him.

Buggs bond revoked after second arrest

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Zack Gelof hit his first home run in nearly three weeks and the Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Tuesday night to end a nine-game losing streak.

JJ Bleday had a career-high three doubles and drove in two runs, and Miguel Andujar added two hits to help Oakland to its first win since June 7.

“Getting a win in this league is tough, as we’ve seen the past few weeks,” Gelof said. “To get a win at home in front of the home crowd is awesome. I’ve been working with the coaches and teammates, and it looked like I was having quality at-bats today.”

The last-place A’s (27-48) have the fourth-worst record in the majors.

A moment of silence was held before the game to honor Willie Mays, the Hall of Fame center fielder who died earlier in the day. Mays got the final hit of his illustrious career at the Oakland Coliseum in the 1973 World Series.

“I just wish I was half the player that he was,” said A’s manager Mark Kotsay, who played center field for much of his career. “The catches that he made and just the smile that he had, the impact he had on the game of baseball. His loss is felt today and will be felt for a long time.”

Nick Loftin hit his first career home run and had three RBI for the Royals, who have lost three of four.

Gelof, who entered in a 5-for-30 funk, singled and scored in the first inning and then hit a three-run homer off starter Alec Marsh (5-4) in the fourth.

“I’ve been struggling a little bit but it makes it all worth it to come through when it matters,” Gelof said. “Felt great and hopefully some more to come.”

Hogan Harris (1-0) pitched five uneven innings to get the win, his first since the end of 2023 when he also beat the Royals. Harris, who left with the lead but got no decision in each of his three previous starts, allowed three runs (one earned) and four hits.

Kansas City, which left the bases loaded in the fourth, scored twice off Lucas Erceg in the eighth and got the potential tying run to the plate before Scott Alexander got Adam Frazier to fly out. Mason Miller retired three batters in the ninth for his 13th save, fourth-most by a rookie in franchise history.

Coming off an 0-7 road trip, the A’s got going early in their return home.

Leadoff hitter Max Schuemann walked in the first and scored on Bleday’s double off the wall. After Bleday advanced to third on a flyout, Brent Rooker hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

“We definitely were in need of a good baseball game and a win,” Kotsay said. “We swung the bats better on the road and continued to swing the bats good tonight. All in all, a good feeling to come from where we were and to bounce back tonight.”

WICHITA, Kan. — More All-America honors roll in for Wichita State seniors CC Wong and Addison Barnard, this time in the classroom. Wong and Barnard have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Softball Teams, it was announced Tuesday morning.

Wong is a first-time Academic All-American, earning CSC First Team honors. She is the sixth different Shocker to be named an Academic All-American, and the fourth First Team honoree. Barnard was named to the CSC Second Team, becoming the first Shocker to repeat as an Academic All-American. She was a First Team selection in 2022.

Wong graduated in May with a degree in general studies sociology and a cumulative GPA of 3.66. Barnard graduated in May with a degree in health science and a cumulative GPA of 3.82. To be considered for Academic All-America® status, student-athletes must be named to the Academic All-District Team and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

A native of Port Coquitlum, British Columbia, Wong was the American Athetic Conference Player of the Year and an All-American by all three major publications (NFCA, D1 Softball and Softball America). Her .470 batting average ranked second nationally to go with 14 home runs and 50 RBI.

Barnard's record-breaking career came to a close behind a stellar senior season. She recorded her third season of 20 or more home runs, finishing with 93 in her storied career. Her 93 career homers ranked fifth all time in NCAA history. She became the first player in NCAA history with 90+ home runs and 60+ stolen bases, earning All-America honors three of her four seasons at Wichita State.

BOSTON (AP) — Jayson Tatum put his hands behind his head, with TD Garden fans standing on their feet cheering around him, and took it all in.

Walking to the bench, he&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/NBA/status/1802909833131147498">wrapped both arms</a>&nbsp;around Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.

The Boston Celtics again stand alone among NBA champions.

Tatum had&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/NBA/status/1802910933045432675">31 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds</a>, and the Celtics topped the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 on Monday night to win the franchise’s 18th championship, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in league history.

Boston earned its latest title on the 16th anniversary of hoisting its last Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2008. It marks the 13th championship won this century by one of the city’s Big 4 professional sports franchises.

“It means the world," Tatum said on stage after the team received the trophy from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. "It’s been a long time. And damn I’m grateful.”

Jaylen Brown added 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and was&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/NBA/status/1802878474094338215">voted the NBA Finals MVP.</a>

“I share this with my brothers and my partner in crime Jayson Tatum," Brown said after the 107th career playoff game he and Tatum have played together — the most for any duo before winning a title.

Jrue Holiday finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Center Kristaps Porzingis also provided an emotional lift, returning from a two-game absence because of a dislocated tendon in his left ankle to chip in five points in 17 minutes.

They helped the Celtics cap a postseason that saw them go 16-3 and finish with an 80-21 overall record. That .792 winning percentage ranks second in team history behind only the Celtics’ 1985-86 championship team that finished 82-18 (.820).

Mazzulla, in his second season, at age 35 also became the youngest coach since Bill Russell in 1969 to lead a team to a championship.

“You have very few chances in life to be great,” Mazzulla said.

Luka Doncic finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds for Dallas, which failed to extend the series after avoiding a sweep with a 38-point win in Game 4. The Mavericks had been 3-0 in Game 5s this postseason, with Doncic scoring at least 31 points in each of them. He said the chest, right knee and left ankle injuries he played through during the finals weren't an excuse for Dallas struggling throughout the series.

“It doesn’t matter if I was hurt, how much was I hurt. I was out there,” he said. “I tried to play, but I didn’t do enough.”

Kyrie Irving finished with just 15 points on 5-of-16 shooting and has lost 13 of the last 14 meetings against the Celtics team he left in the summer of 2019 to join the Brooklyn Nets.

Irving thinks better things are ahead for the Mavs.

“I see an opportunity for us to really build our future in a positive manner, where this is almost like a regular thing for us and we’re competing for championships,” he said.

NBA teams are now 0-157 in postseason series after falling into a 3-0 deficit.

Mavs coach Jason Kidd believes Doncic and his team will grow from this NBA Finals experience.

“I think the first step is just to be in it. I think that’s a big thing,” he said. “Yes, we lost 4-1, but I thought the group fought against the Celtics and just, unfortunately, we just couldn’t make shots when we had to, or we turned the ball over and they took full advantage of that.”

Boston never trailed and led by as many as 26, feeding off the energy of the Garden crowd.

Dallas was within 16-15 early before the Celtics closed the first quarter on a 12-3 run that included eight combined points by Tatum and Brown.

The Celtics did it again in the second quarter when the Mavericks trimmed what had been a 15-point deficit to nine. Boston ended the period with a 19-7 spurt that was capped by a a half-court&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/NBA/status/1802881662973247720">buzzer beater</a>&nbsp;by Payton Pritchard – his second such shot of the series – to give Boston a 67-46 halftime lead.

Over the last two minutes of the first and second quarters, the Celtics outscored the Mavericks 22-4.

Russell’s widow, Jeannine Russell, and his daughter Karen Russell were in TD Garden to salute the newest generation of Celtics champions.

They watched current Celtics stars Tatum and Brown earn their first rings. It was the trade that sent 2008 champions Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn in 2013 that netted Boston the draft picks it eventually used to select Brown and Tatum third overall in back-to-back drafts in 2016 and 2017.

The All-Stars came into their own this season, leading a Celtics team that was built around taking and making a high number of 3-pointers, and a defense that rated as the league’s best during the regular season.

The duo made it to at least the Eastern Conference finals as teammates four previous times.

They finally reached the finish line in their fifth deep playoff run together.

After both struggling at times offensively in the series, Tatum and Brown hit a groove in Game 5, combining for 31 points and 11 assists in the first half.

It helped bring out all the attributes that made Boston the NBA’s most formidable team this postseason – spreading teams out, sharing the ball, and causing havoc on defense. And even&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/GVazquezNY/status/1802877699318222955">chipping a tooth</a>, like Derrick White did after he was landed on by Dereck Lively II.

“I'll lose all my teeth for a championship,” White said.

And it put a championship bow on a dizzying stretch for the Celtics, that saw them lose in the finals to the Golden State Warriors in 2022 and then fail to return last season after a Game 7 home loss to the Miami Heat in the conference finals.

Tatum vowed that night to erase the sting of those disappointments.

Standing in a sea of confetti Monday night he was reminded by his 6-year-old son, Deuce, of what he'd accomplished.

“He told me that I was the best in the world,” Tatum said. “I said, ‘You’re damn right I am.’”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defends 'Sunday Ticket' package as a premium product

LOS ANGELES (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reiterated during testimony in federal court Monday that the league's "Sunday Ticket" package, the subject of a class-action lawsuit, is a premium product while also defending the league's broadcast model. Goodell was called as a witness by the NFL as the trial for the lawsuit filed by "Sunday Ticket" subscribers entered its third week. The class-action covers 2.4 million residential subscribers and 48,000 businesses who paid for the package from 2011 through 2022. The lawsuit claims the league broke antitrust laws by selling its package of out-of-market Sunday afternoon games at an inflated price. The subscribers also say the league restricted competition by offering "Sunday Ticket" only on a satellite provider.

WNBA to interview Las Vegas tourism leader Tuesday regarding sponsorship offer to Aces players

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO and President Steve Hill said he will interview Tuesday with the lead investigator who is examining whether WNBA rules were broken when sponsorship deals were offered last month to Las Vegas Aces players. Les Miles sues LSU, NCAA and College Football Hall of Fame over 37 vacated victories

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Former LSU coach Les Miles is suing the university over its decision to vacate 37 of his teams' victories between 2012 and 2015. The lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Baton Rouge alleges that LSU never gave Miles a chance to be heard before altering his career record in a way that disqualified him from consideration for the College Football Hall of Fame. The decision in June 2023 to vacate the victories stemmed from an NCAA ruling that former Tigers offensive lineman Vadal Alexander had received financial benefits that violated NCAA rules at the time he played. (AP) — Kansas lawmakers hoping to lure the Kansas City Chiefs from Missouri are narrowing their proposal for encouraging the Super Bowl champions to build a new stadium and linking the proposal to a plan for broad tax cuts. Those moves are designed to win over skeptical colleagues. The Legislature expected to consider the stadium proposal during a special session set to convene Tuesday. The measure would allow the state to issue bonds to help the Chiefs and Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals finance new stadiums in Kansas. Supporters backed away from allowing the bonds to cover all stadium construction costs, and they're promising that tax cuts are a larger priority.

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-The Hutchinson Monarchs pounded out 25 runs on 25 hits with only 1 error on Monday night in route to a 25-3 win over the Wichita Black Sox at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson.

Both the margin of victory and number of hits earned over 6 innings is a Monarch record.

On top of that, Brett Smajstrla  (pronounced: Suh-ma-struh-luh),&nbsp;hit for the cycle to become the first Monarch to ever accomplish that magical feat.

Smajstrla, center fielder out of Sam Houston State, home town of Pearland, Texas went 5 fo6, flying out to center field in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, tripled and singled in the 4th inning, doubled in the 5th and hit a 2-run homer in the 6th inning. Smajstrla also had 5 RBI's to top off his big night.

Smajstrla, currently coming into his sophomore year is in the transfer portal leaving Sam Houston State is certain to get looks after his start with the Monarchs this summer. Smajstrla will have 3 years of eligibility remaining and totes a 3.4 gpa being a mechanical engineering major

Colin Cymbalista, filling in for Cooper Harris at catcher was also 4 for 5 with 5 RBI's.

The Monarchs scored 3 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 3rd, 8 in the 4th, 5 in the 5th and 5 in the 6th innings in the rout of the Black Sox.

Head coach,&nbsp;Casey Lippoldt came on in relief in the top of the 7th and promptly gave up a two run blast to Wesley Phillips before retiring the side. Garrett Folmar earned the win for the Monarchs.

Cooper Harris came out of the Monarch dugout to settle Lippoldt down allowing Lippoldt to stay in the game to close out the Black Sox.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced dates for training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.

This marks the 14th year of training camp at Missouri Western. All times and dates are subject to change. All practices will take place on the Mosaic Training Fields. There'll be 19 practices in all.

Open practices begin July 21 and conclude August 15. All training camp practices will be free of charge to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Training camp tickets must be reserved in advance at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.chiefs.com/trainingcamp/" target="_blank">www.chiefs.com/trainingcamp/</a>.

Due to expected interest and demand, attendance each day will be limited. Ticket reservations will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20 for Chiefs Season Ticket Members followed by the general public on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m.
