Remedios “Mello” Navarro, 90, of Hutchinson, passed away April 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at her home. She was born October 5, 1933, in La Union, New Mexico, to Antonio Olmos Ventura and Juanita Castro Llamas.

Mello married Peter M. Navarro in February of 1955, in McPherson. They settled in Hutchinson and, in addition to being a mother and a homemaker, she worked in several Hutchinson businesses – Peter Pan cleaners, Meschke’s Clothing, and International Homes. Mello was an excellent cook and loved doing crafts and sewing and helping others. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross and volunteered in the kitchen at Holy Cross Catholic School.

Mello is survived by: her sons, John C. Navarro of Hutchinson, Steve &amp; Connie Navarro of Hutchinson, Peter “Edd” Navarro of Austin, TX, Martin Navarro of Hutchinson, David &amp; Margaret Navarro of Wichita; grandchildren, Matthew Navarro of Hutchinson, Anthony &amp; Bailey Navarro of Lawrence, Devin Porting of Manitowoc, WI, Daniel Porting of Hutchinson, Joshua Navarro of Lawrence, Haley Navarro of Hutchinson; great-grandchild, Calland Navarro of Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Tonia Navarro of Hutchinson; and several godchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Gina Navarro; husband, Peter M. Navarro; and siblings, Jesus Mendoza, Manuel Olmos, Mercedes Navarro, Jose Olmos, Francisco Olmos, Ramon Olmos, and Maria Llamas.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Rd., Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Emily Kathryn Ronan, 88, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, died April 20, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born September 13, 1935, in Mount Morris, MI, to Franklin and Erma (Hennen) Dyer.

Emily often spoke fondly of her childhood years raising rabbits with her mother and her sister, Rose, listening to and singing with her mother and how her father was a good storyteller. It was also early on that she developed a love of the outdoors and gardening. Emily and Rose would work a garden with fruits and vegetables and can them together.&nbsp;

Emily was a devout Catholic her entire life. After graduating 8th Grade from Sacred Heart School, Emily continued her education by going to live with the sisters at St. Joseph’s Convent in Oxford, MI. At the age of 16, after finishing high school, she decided to stay and took her vows as a sister of the Dominican Order. It was there and then that she began to teach. By 1971, Emily decided she wanted to “change her style of living” and left the convent, but continued her teaching career.&nbsp;

In the 1972 school year, she would meet Michael J. Ronan, an assistant principal of the Michael O’Sullivan school at which they were both set to work. On June 23, 1973, the two were married in Flint, MI. They would go on to raise their family in both Michigan and Arizona, and of course, Emily would always have a garden.&nbsp;

Emily continued to teach and for a time served as a director at a number of daycare centers and a private school. &nbsp;Her favorite classes to teach were the preschool students. Emily would retire in 2000.

She was always calm in her demeanor, no matter the situation, selfless, and the rock of her family. Emily was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Phoenix, AZ, followed by St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, Cave Creek, AZ where she enjoyed singing in the choir.&nbsp;

Immediately after finishing chemotherapy and beating cancer in 2006, she and her husband fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling to Italy and to the Vatican. On their trip, despite Emily’s temporarily weakened state, she was a force of nature, never missing an excursion. After the birth of her first grandchild in 2009, Emily shifted into grandma mode. She would babysit during the days and spend as much time with her grandchildren as she could, until they moved away in 2013. After moving to Kansas in 2017 to be closer to the grandchildren, Emily became a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Michael passed on February 6, 2020, after the two had shared nearly 47 years of marriage. Emily spent her final years enjoying the love and care of her grandchildren. She passed away the afternoon following her youngest grandchild’s confirmation in the Catholic faith. In the days leading up, she was a proud grandmother.

Emily is survived by: son, Marc Ronan (Hollie) of Hutchinson; daughter, Susan Gourley (Vicki) of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Brendan Troy Ronan, Grace Kathryn Lenae Ronan, and Gavin Richard Ronan; sister, Rose Pileri of Flushing, MI; brother, Herb Dyer (Carol) of Onekama, MI; sisters-in-law Patricia Redding (Peter) and Peggy Ronan both of Troy, MI and many numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents and brothers, Ronald Dyer and James Dyer.

Emily Kathryn Ronan |1935-2024|

Charles C. “Chuck” Porter peacefully passed on to his heavenly home on Monday, April 22, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife and children at home in Buhler, Kansas. He was born April 29, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to John Clarence and Carol Alene (Miller) Porter. Chuck grew up on his family farm outside of Viola and attended Viola schools from K-12th grade. He graduated from Viola High School in 1961. Chuck received his bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University in 1967.

Chuck was a lifelong teacher, coach, and mentor and was lovingly referred to by others as “Coach”. He taught History, Government, and Physical Education. Students at Buhler High will remember spirited badminton matches against the coaches, one of Chuck’s favorite activities in P.E. classes. With his background in History and Government, he was a fierce competitor in countless Trivia games with family and friends.

Coach was an avid golfer and played anytime, anywhere, and every chance he got. He attended Medora Community Bible Church and his faith in his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ was the most important commitment in his life.

Through his career he coached football, wrestling, and golf. Chuck’s premiere passion in sports was football. He started his coaching career at St. Patrick’s Junior High School while in his senior year at WSU. His next stop was Kapaun High School (later Kapaun-Mt. Carmel High School) where he coached under his beloved friend, Ed Kriwiel. Coach used the same quiet yet determined approach he learned from Ed to successfully coach and mentor many young men over his 34 year coaching career.

Chuck’s first head football coaching job was at Bishop Carroll where he taught and coached for 4 years, also winnings a State Championship along with 4 district titles. His next stop was East High School for 3 years where the football team brought home 2 State Championships. After East High, Coach spent 2 years as an assistant at WSU, until the Football program was discontinued. His last teaching/coaching position was at Buhler High School, where he taught and coached football for the remainder of his career.

Chuck was honored with many awards over his career, some of them being; 11 coach of the year awards, 5 times Kansas Coach of the Year, 2 high school Hall of Fame at East and Buhler, Hall of Fame in the Kansas State High School Activities Association, and coaching Shrine Bowl teams.

Chuck was united in marriage to Schari E. Andrews on April 20, 1974 in Wichita. Chuck and Schari just shared their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

He is also survived by his children, Cris Porter of Wichita, Charlie Porter of Lawrence, and Blasi Porter of Buhler. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kelly Schuessler; and his brother, Walter Porter.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Medora Community Bible Church in Medora. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at the church. Kathi enjoyed shopping at Walmart and writing letters. &nbsp;She loved getting in a car and just going for a ride. Kathi was a Special Olympics athlete and a Clayworks artist.

Kathi Anne Smith |1959-2024|

Joyce Elaine Crow, 96, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at Regent Park Rehabilitation and Health Care, Wichita, KS.

Joyce was born February 18, 1928, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Phillip and Grace (Wilson) Crow. She attended Hutchinson High School.  Joyce was known for greeting everyone she met with her big, beautiful smile and kindness.  She enjoyed many adventures in her life, starting with working for the Aramco Company in Saudi Arabia in the 1950’s.  After returning to the US from the Middle East, she attended and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the University of Colorado.  The majority of Joyce’s career was with the Social Security Administration, giving her the opportunity to explore and experience life in many parts of the US before returning to her hometown of Hutchinson, KS.  Through work Joyce met her longtime friend, Michele Groves, and together they enjoyed many adventures including sailing, golfing and travel around the US.  One of Joyce’s greatest joys was enjoying activities with her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Phillip Crow, Jack Crow, Patricia Goracke, Frank Crow, Dale Crow and Charlene Crow.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Judy McDonald; brother, Bill Crow; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS with Pastor Tom Scott officiating.  Inurnment will take place at Fairlawn Burial Park.

Leroy was born on October 9, 1932, in rural Ravenwood, MO, the son of Jacob and Dortha (O’Bannon) Adwell.&nbsp; Part of his childhood was in Idaho and then in Oregon where they lived on Roger’s mountain before moving to Portland, Oregon.&nbsp; Moved back to Missouri in 1945, he graduated from high school in Ravenwood, MO.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, with the rank of Platoon Sergeant serving at the end of the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, being part of the Float Bridge Company, placing temporary bridges where permanent bridges had been destroyed in battle.

Leroy moved to Kansas in 1955 and worked for Skelgas, an underground storage facility in Conway.&nbsp; Later it became Texaco, where he worked for 35 years until taking early retirement in 1990.

He was united in marriage on September 8, 1956, to Murla D. Becker at the Presbyterian Chapel in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; To their union were born four children: Patty, Roger, Laura, and Douglas.

Leroy and Murla’s first purchased home in Conway was a story and a half house that they transformed into a ranch style house.&nbsp; He could never just sit and do nothing, was always building something, whether it was a play house, merry-go-round, or a go-cart for us kids.&nbsp; He’d go fishing whenever he got the chance. Then, they decided to move to the country, and they built that house.&nbsp; He decided to get into the hog business.&nbsp; What started out with a few sows, turned into a lot more.

After a time later, he gave up the hogs and changed to buying Holstein calves in Wisconsin where they were bottle fed and then raised up to 300 to 400 lbs before being sold&nbsp; In 1984, they sold the farm and moved to Lindsborg, where again they remodeled a 2 ½ story house.&nbsp; Dad enjoyed keeping busy building furniture and crafts that they sold at craft shows.&nbsp; Also, he loved being with family, gardening, raising pigeons, doves, and chickens.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary Adwell, and sister, Mary Lou Sledge.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Mural Adwell of Lindsborg, KS; four children, Patty Turnquist (Bryce) of Lindsborg, KS, Roger Adwell (Melody) of Chanute, KS, Laura Johannsen (Richard) of Lindsborg, KS, and Douglas Adwell (Linda) of Valley Center, KS; a sister, Shirley Coffelt of Maryville, MO; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date.&nbsp; The final resting place will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Randi Jean Gifford, 60, of Lindsborg, died April 13, 2024 at her residence. 

She had lived in the Lindsborg area most of her life and was a registered nurse. She was born July 7, 1963 in Lindsborg, the daughter of Everett W. and Anna L. (Pauls) Johnson. She graduated from Lindsborg High School and Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina. She was of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include her sister, Jane A. (Greg) Yount of Bakersfield, Missouri and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

A private family inurnment will take place in the Christian Ridge Cemetery in rural Lindsborg at a later date. 

Memorials have been established with the KJIL radio station or the Kansas Bible Camp, in care of Olson's Mortuary, Canton.

Anna Ruth Endicott, 82, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on April 18, 2024. &nbsp;She was born July 4, 1941, in Hutchinson, KS, to Roy Hamilton Woosley and Allie Ruth (McKenna) Woosley. &nbsp;

Anna was a 1959 graduate of Hutchinson High School. &nbsp;She was from Hutchinson, KS, but moved to the Waterloo, KS, and Kingman, KS area.&nbsp; On May 15, 2014, Anna married William ‘Tom’ Endicott.

She was the kindest and beautiful soul you would ever meet. &nbsp;Anna always made sure that you knew that she loved and cared about you. &nbsp;She was an amazing wife, sister, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. &nbsp;Anna enjoyed singing and joking around. &nbsp;She loved sunflowers and animals, especially her dog Oliver.

Anna is survived by: &nbsp;her husband, William ‘Tom’ Endicott; brother, David Woosley; son, Wayne LeRoy McMillan, Jr.; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Wedgeworth; grandchildren, Jerry Grindley, Amanda Garcia, Evangeline McMillan, Kara Wedgeworth, Travis Tull, and Marshall Tull; eight great-grandchildren; four nieces; four nephews; six great-nieces; two great-nephews; and beloved canine companion, Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd Woosley.

Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary H. Newton, 90, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, KS. Mary was born June 2, 1933, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Albert and Phebe Ella (James) Gibson. 

On May 7, 1954, she married Jesse Paul Newton in Hutchinson. Mary worked for Consolidated Rebuilders and retired after 16 years. Mary was a lifetime resident of Hutchinson and loved the Lord with all her heart. 

Mary was a member of First Church of God for 86 wonderful years. Mary loved to read the bible and listen to Christian music. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and Grand-doggies. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bob Gibson, Eugene Gibson and Frank Gibson; six sisters, Sue Hughes, Phebe Jennings, Ina Harper, Marie Rodgers, Sophia Baize and Fern Stoughton. 

Mary is survived by her two sons, Chris (Delora) Newton and Jay (Laura) Newton; three daughters, Beth Boese, Leta (Gary) Green and Mary (Barry) Homfeld; 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at First Church of God, 704 N. Jefferson, Hutchinson, KS. A visitation will be Monday, April 22, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson.

Arthur Andrew Hoch passed away March 27, 2024, at McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; He was born January 19, 1942, near Dwight, Kansas to Harry and Opal Engstrom Hoch.&nbsp;

Art graduated from Dwight High School in 1959 as valedictorian.&nbsp; He graduated cum laude from McPherson College in 1963 with Education and Sociology majors.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On April 13, 1963, he married Karen Crain in Waka, Texas.&nbsp; He taught and coached at Buhler Elementary.&nbsp; Art graduated in 1966 from Emporia State with a masters in Elementary Administration.

He was Principal at Ashland, (where Mike was born) and Burlington elementary schools.&nbsp; Art, Karen and Mike moved back to McPherson in 1970 (where Scott was born).&nbsp; He sold insurance until he was asked to return to teaching.&nbsp; He taught 5th&nbsp;graders at Park and Roosevelt schools until 1992.

After 28 years in education, Art worked at The Cedars as Administrator for Independent Living, in charge of the (old) Cedars Towers and Cedars Village and helped new residents plan their homes in the Village, until his 2004 retirement.&nbsp;

Survivors are Karen; Mike, (Melanie), and Isabella; Scott, (Shanna), and Skylar (Gretchen), Foster, and Thatcher; Sisters-in-law Shirley Hoch and Patsy Hoch; Sister-in-law Mary Stephenson (Terry).&nbsp; He was predeceased by parents, and brothers Lowell, Don, and Willis.

Visitation is Friday,&nbsp;May 10, at Church of the Brethren, 5-7 pm. A Memorial Service for Art will be on Saturday,&nbsp;May 11, at 1:00 pm at the Church.

Earl Oscar Pike, 60, of Arlington, died April 17, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;He was born February 25, 1964, in Hutchinson, to Darrel Dwayne and Vina May (Dyche) Pike.&nbsp;

Oscar worked as a driver for Gravel &amp; Concrete Inc., Nickerson, for 5 years. He worked for Concrete Enterprises for 19 years. He was also a custom cutter for Rick Maynard. He had a wood business with Bill Bailey, W E B Firewood, he was part owner of Cheney Ready Mix, for 5 years, and Kingman Ready Mix, for 7 years. He grew in Arlington and Partridge. &nbsp;He traveled to roping events and enjoyed riding his dirt bike. He was an avid KU and Chiefs fan, and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and an immaculate yard. &nbsp;Oscar will be remembered for his most unique sense of humor and how he was always supporting his family when they asked.&nbsp;

On November 15, 1985, he married Cheryl Soukup, in Kingman. He raised Cheryl’s daughter, Jennifer as his own, in Kingman, KS. They divorced in January 14, 2003.

On June 10, 2003, he married the love of his life, Terri Rae Halfmoon Stanton, in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Oscar is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of over 20 years, Terri Pike of Arlington; daughter, Jennifer Sharp, and son, Christopher Jenkins, both of Hutchinson, and daughter, Charleen Jenkins (Michael Rivers) of Wichita; grandson, Jamie Sharp of Hutchinson; sister, Jo Shelton (Tom) of Arlington; brother, Dwayne Pike of Arizona; in-laws, Rita and David Jamison of Moundridge; and sisters-in-law, Angela Smith (Chuck) of Burrton and Samantha Richter (Ryan) of Newton

He had many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He enjoyed being an uncle, great uncle, and a great-great uncle. He joked about who was his favorite niece, between Margo and Megan.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; sister, Sheryl Childs; brother-in-law, Kirk Stanton; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Earl Oscar Pike |1964-2024|

Dennis was born to Clarence &amp; Lucile (Richardson) Lebbin on May 26, 1942 in Great Bend, Kansas. He passed away April 19, 2024. He graduated from Ellinwood HS in 1960. Dennis proudly served in the Army from 1962-1965. He worked as Office Manager in the 3rd INF HG to AG in Wurzburg, Germany and was Office Manager in the 7th Army HG to the Assistant AG in Stuttgart, Germany. Dennis then graduated in 1967 from KSTC in Data Processing and had his career in Wichita, Kansas. He married his wife, Carol (Small) on August 28, 1966.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 58 years; his two sons, Mark (Helen), El Dorado, Kansas, and Paul (Valerie), Ottawa Ontario, Canada; 6 grandchildren, Hannah, Rebekah, Holton, Xavier, Noah and Aiden; great-grandson, Sam; brother Kenneth (Robin), Ellinwood, Kansas; sisters, Judy (Richard) Jenisch, Sublette, Kansas; Trisha (Rob) Dove, Ellinwood, Kansas.

He enjoyed collecting classic cars, American Flyer electric trains and all things collectible. He never missed a game that his boys played. On April 13, 2024, Jackie Joe Earl Shryock, went to be with God. &nbsp;His beautiful wife, Trudy, watched as God took her best friend to an eternal peace. &nbsp;Jackie Joe Earl Shryock, born on December 7, 1946, was the love of her life. &nbsp;Blessed with over 57 years together, they shared a life filled with family and friends. Jackie was an upstanding member of the Navy who loyally served his country for 12 years. After the Navy, he used his skills in food service with McDonalds and Long John Silvers. He made a career change to Auto Mechanics and worked for Quality Chevrolet until the dealership closed. Always working hard to provide for and protect his family, Jackie joined the team at Federal Warehouse doing parts counter work and worked at Walmart in the bakery.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Trudy, daughter Teresa, grandchildren, Brandi, Gabby, Sami, Brett, Dylan, Justin, and 13 great grandchildren. Other survivors include Jackie’s brothers Dennis and Larry Shryock, and sister Nita Kay Edwards, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service is pending and will be announced later by the family.

Michael Goodson was born in Wichita, KS on November 2, 1981 to Tom and Nancy Goodson. &nbsp;He was their first child and enjoyed all the attention and affection of a firstborn child. &nbsp;During those first few years he developed autoimmune complications and ended up receiving monthly IV infusions at the hospital for over a year. &nbsp;Often he and his dad would visit a local Dunkin Donut shop after a treatment and have a donut as a treat for being such a good patient. &nbsp;Donuts have continued to hold a special meaning to this day. &nbsp;

Michael was raised in a Christian home and taught Christian values. He attended school at Countryside Christian school through second grade, transferred to Sunrise Christian Academy through eighth grade, and then homeschooled. &nbsp;Michael graduated high school in 2000. He then attended Butler County Community College and earned an Associate’s degree in Computer Science. &nbsp;While attending Butler he became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ.&nbsp;

Michael enjoyed sports and became an avid sports supporter, following the Wichita State Shockers in basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. &nbsp;He also became a bicycle enthusiast after his move to Kansas City and rode his bicycle all over the metropolitan area. &nbsp;He became involved with a group of other bicyclists and often participated in group rides throughout the city known as “critical mass” rides. &nbsp;A celebratory “critical mass” ride was held in the Kansas City area as a remembrance to him.

He developed a love for cooking, music, and local dining establishments to partake of different “specialties of the house.” &nbsp; Other pastimes included putting together puzzles as well as making “custom” puzzles utilizing photographs as reference.

Michael was a good friend to all who knew him and was always ready to help someone in need. &nbsp;He acquired the nickname “Goody” and lived up to his nickname. &nbsp;There have been many posts on social media since Michael’s passing that show he was well liked among those he met on his life’s journey.

Michael faced his long year of health complications with a positive attitude and fighter’s spirit. During this time, he had spiritual conversations about where he would spend eternity. Based on his profession of true faith and reliance on Jesus Christ, we ascertain that his sins have been forgiven and that he is in heaven.

Michael, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend will be remembered for his kindness, big heart, and desire to help others.

He is survived by his parents, Tom and Nancy Goodson, his sisters Allie (Craig) Shakarji and Erin Prichard,&nbsp; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Marvin Eller passed away April 14, 2024. He was born March 19, 1939 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, CO. His parents, Lemuel and Susie Eller and brother Duane welcomed him home to a small farm in Littleton, CO. In 1940 the family moved to Kansas where his Dad started working in heavy construction, building highways and dams in Kansas and other states. Marvin lived in over 30 communities and 7 states throughout his lifetime.

He graduated from South Denver HS in 1957 and worked for the original Frontier Airlines. After a short stint in the US Army at Fort Leonardwood, MO (discharged because of a HS knee injury), Marvin joined the Colorado Highway Patrol in 1964. During the years of service for the patrol, Marvin married and had three children: Meloni, Valerie and Marcus. He was stationed at multiple location in the state. Marvin was elected as Commissioner of the Colorado State Liquor Control Department and served as its Director. In that capacity, Marvin was called upon to testify before the US Congress in Washington, DC. He left Littleton after divorcing. He then retired in 1985 and spent some time in Seattle.

He relocated to Phillipsburg, KS in 1990, where he remodeled and flipped houses and met his future wife, a local art teacher, Bettie (Durfey) Duffy. Bettie brought into the marriage two children, Kevin and Deanna Duffy. After marrying Bettie in 1993, the Ellers enjoyed traveling to many countries, and sponsored student tours to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Marvin and Betty later moved to Canyon City, CO where they owned and operated a frame shop. They eventually retired there, enjoying the beautiful scenery and taking many cruises. They continued cruise excursions even after moving to a lower altitude for health reasons to Newton, Kansas in 2019.

Marvin was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ, attending Newton Christian Church with his wife Betty. He was an avid supporter of Gideon International, who promotes evangelism and distributes free Bibles worldwide.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Betty; children Meloni Drake, Valerie Page and Marcus (Kimberly) Eller; Step-children Kevin (Shelly) Duffy and Deanna Duffy; grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

Gary Neal Cromer, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 4, 1934 in Coats to John Franklin and Susan Mercedes (Downtain) Cromer. Gary married Ruby Jean (Heape) Cromer on November 26, 1953 in Pratt. They were married for 70 years.

Gary graduated from Sawyer High School in 1951. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy. Afterward, he went on to earn his Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University in 1963. He was the owner/operator of Capitol Airlines, a commercial airline and charter business in Manhattan until he purchased Cromer Ranch Inc in Belvidere in 1976. He was on the Board of Directors at First National Bank. He enjoyed investing money, researching investments, traveling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Jean Cromer; children, Ruby D (Richard) Kendall of Wichita, Stacia (Michael) Jacobs of Belvidere, Marla S. Cromer of Pratt and Gary (Victoria) Cromer Jr. of Olathe; brother, John (Patricia) Cromer of Pratt; sister, Ann Wegele of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeremy) Martin, Joseph (Kimberly) Kendall, Michael (Penelope) Kendall, Matthew (Sarah) Kendall, Danielle (Amy ) Jacobs, William (David Weiler) Cromer and Rebecca Cromer; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Darrel K. Henke, 81, Preston, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 16, 2024, surrounded by his family at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

He was born on October 21, 1942 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Rohlan and Mary (Gadow) Henke. He was raised in and around the town of Western, Nebraska.

He graduated from Western High School in 1960. He received his pre-secondary education Associates Degree from Fairbury Junior College. He also attended the University of Nebraska and was a lifelong Husker fan.

Early in his work career he was a general manager for Hested's and Gibson's Stores in various locations in Nebraska, South Dakota and Colorado. In 1975, he took a giant leap of faith and purchased his own business. He moved his family of 9 from Lamar, Colorado to Pratt where he became the proud owner of the local Daylight Donuts. This was a very successful venture and provided for his family for 31 years until his retirement. Darrel enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, woodworking and watching Husker football. He could always be seen sporting his Nebraska jacket and ball cap. He loved to attend his children and grandchildren sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Addeanna (Schlagor) Henke; children, William (Masako) McChesney III of Ferris, Texas, David Henke of Wichita, Kevin Henke of Vevay, Indiana, Katherine (Todd) Wagner of Benton, Steven (Christy) Henke of Preston and Alicia (Tony) Shumway of Pratt; grandchildren, Alec McChesney, Ellen McChesney, Matthew (Josie) Barnes, Samuel Henke, Meggan (Brad) Brinkley, Jessica (Brian) Hollingshead, Austin (Megan) Wagner, Kylie Brown, Chance (Tiffany) Henke, Sydney Henke and Kaleb Shumway; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Beverly McCoy, Diane Henke, Doyle (Cheryl) Henke and Beth Jayne (John) Wilkinson; son in-law, Robert Barnes; brother in-law, Gary Ellefson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Hilltop Manor family.

Carolyn was a 1962 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School and received her Associate’s Degree from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, KS. She also held a cosmetology license. She was a Systems Operator for various electrical companies in Great Bend, KS.

Surviving are one son, Dean (Tanya) Pierce of La Crosse, KS; one daughter, Melissa (Steve) Holder of Topeka, KS; Seven grandchildren, Tessa, Cole, and Blake Pierce, Tracy, Steven and Lance Holder, and Stephanie Powell; Ten great-grandchildren, Kaden, Skyler, Bella, Steven, Brody, Eli, and Violet Holder, Josh and Lindsay Hupp, and Alex Powell; two sisters, Joann (Chuck) Motter of Lenexa, KS and Joyce Bell of Isabel, KS; several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Jennifer Holder and four siblings, Marvin Jones, Virginia Jones, Wallace Jones and infant Melvin Jones.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS.

Carolyn Sue Leigan |1944-2024|

Lance Erwin Flemming, 66, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Diversicare in Hutchinson. He was born on May 9, 1957 in Pratt to Junius Reed and Vanetta Mae (Martin) Flemming.

Lance graduated from Pratt High School in 1976. In his early years, Lance was a farmer for John Dauner, Robert Greenstreet and Gale Bolen and worked at Western Auto for Rufus Stennet as a technician putting together bikes and anything that needed built. He worked as a Meter Reader for the City of Pratt for 25 years until retiring in 2021. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher. He would take his nieces and nephews to church every Sunday and treated them to lunch afterward. He was HAM Radio Operator and kept his license current. He enjoyed reading, farming, studying gardening, working and studying electrical engineering and built his first computer. He was a very humble and kind hearted man. Lance was also very proud of his family that served in the military, father, Junius; brothers, Ralph, Martin, Van, Brad and Guy; and sisters in-law, Sandra and Mary.

He is survived by his siblings, Judy Tomlin of Denver, Colorado, Cynthia Flemming and Pennie Nafisa, Martin (Mary) Flemming all of Pratt, Guy (Kathryn) Flemming of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, Brad (Darby) Flemming, Van (Sandra) Flemming and Shawn Flemming all of Pratt; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Lance is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Junius Ralph Flemming and Larry Minnis; and sister, Irene Roberts.

Family will have a Celebration of Life at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024 at Second Baptist Church in Pratt. A Graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt with Pastor Perry Johnson presiding.

Terry D. Bryan, 53, of Wichita, died April 16, 2024 at his residence. He was born May 26, 1970, to Jerry Bryan and Nora (Ditto) Bryan.

Terry graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1988 and attended Independence Community College. He was a self-employed entrepreneur and investor. Terry love to golf and fish trout in Colorado and he kept himself busy with his work.

Terry is survived by: his sons, Matthew (Audrey) Bryan and Brandon (Brooke) Bryan of Hutchinson; fiancée, Sara Pennington of Wichita; grandchildren, Cannon and Letty Bryan of Hutchinson; and brother Michael Bryan.

Friends may sign the book Friday 9:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. with the family present 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Kenny Wayne "Wagon" Smith was born December 18, 1984, to Robert Eugene Smith Jr and Sherlyn Ann (Marcum) Smith in Hutchinson, KS. Kenny left us on April 14, 2024, at 39 years young in Hutchinson.

Kenny was preceded in death by his Grandpa and Grandma Smith, Grandma Ardie and Grandpa Ken, his parents, Robert "Bob" Jr and Sherry Smith, and his cousin, Jason Thomas Smith.

He is survived by, first and foremost, his 3-legged brother, Roscoe "P" Draggin, as well as his human siblings, brother Robert Eugene Smith III, and sister, Ardie "Arfie" LeeAnn Smith.

Joyce Elaine Crow, 96, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Regent Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Wichita, Kansas. Joyce was born on February 18, 1928, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Phillip Ladd and Grace Cora (Wilson) Crow. &nbsp;

Howard John Schmidt, age 83, died peacefully April 13, 2024 in Newton, KS, his hometown since the age of 6. He was born January 13th, 1941 to John F. and Selma Schmidt in Hutchinson, KS.

Growing up, he had many interesting experiences moving with his sisters and parents to various towns in Ohio, Colorado, and Kansas where his father was called to pastor a church, and later to be curator of the Kauffman Museum and Historical Library in North Newton. As a young child, Howard learned to have fun along with the virtue of hard work-delivering eggs to neighbors, raising rabbits, delivering papers, hanging out with campus kids with their maps and hideouts, working on a farm, and building model airplanes. He enjoyed baseball in elementary school, but in high school and college his passion was football, playing on both the Newton High School and the Bethel College football teams. In Newton High School he lettered in both football and track and was involved in student government (officer), Latin Club and academics (Scholarship pins). High school yearbook comments by classmates most often referred to his leadership, academic and athletic skills and personality. Involvement in student government continued in college.

Two summers during college he worked on harvest crews in Montana. He had many good memories of Bethel, playing football, student council participation, convocation, classes, and working on the Bethel grounds. He majored in Natural Sciences, graduating in 1963.

His first year of teaching High School Math and Physics was in Henderson, Nebraska. It was said he burned up the road to Bethel every weekend to see his fiancée, Marilyn Foth. He returned to Newton, teaching 6 years at Newton High School. He earned a Masters in Education degree from Emporia State University. After working summers in the yard at Prestressed Concrete, Inc., he took a full-time position with Prestressed, building bridges and buildings. After 41 fulfilling years, he retired in 2010 as Vice President of Production.

He oversaw the developing of benches to lockers in Goering Hall and lockers and weight rooms for various sports. One of his proudest accomplishments was seeing the Bethel College stadium complex develop during his tenure at Prestressed Concrete, so he could oversee the construction and erection of the stadium seating risers.On June 5, 1965, Howard married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Foth from Cordell, Oklahoma. They enjoyed years of skiing in Colorado with friends, traveling in Europe with a group of teachers, a trip to China with Jim and Shirley Goering and the Holy Land trip with Patty Shelly, as well as traveling in the US and Mexico. The Kasper Broadway trips to New York were a highlight for over 30 years. A major car accident in 1992 did not keep them from continuing to travel. They always enjoyed many family Thanksgiving visits to Beaver Lake in Arkansas and trips to Ponca City and Tulsa, OK to spend holidays with family. A couple's book club with WSU professors and Wichita teachers offered them a challenge and opportunity to expand their friendships. Attending Bethel games and events, plays, movies, playing games with friends, eating out and delivering books to Kidron Bethel from Newton Public Library kept them active. Howard always commented how much he enjoyed going out with friends.Howard's involvement with Lion's Club projects gave him satisfaction. He was a capable man who loved working outdoors, especially on the lawn.His childhood interest in models expanded in adulthood to cars and radio control cars, airplanes, and boats. He was featured in the Prestressed Concrete newsletter once for hitting the ground as a model plane reversed course and dive bombed him.Accomplishments aside, Howard was a quiet, intelligent person who cared about people and didn't make a show of it. His kindness and gentleness were defining characteristics observed by others as well as his hearty laugh and great sense of humor. Young children gave him much joy. His witty remarks were a joy. His resilience and toughness in response to physical setbacks were admirable.Howard was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Selma Schmidt and his sister Angela Boho. Survivors include his wife Marilyn Schmidt; sisters: Dee Schmidt of Wichita, KS, Lynette June and husband Howard House of Vineland, Ontario, Canada: sister and brother-in-law: Lois and Robert Corbin of Ponca City, OK, brother-in-law Robert Boho; nephews: Brett House of New York City and Toronto, Canada; niece Krista Lynn House and husband Ern Bieman (children Ollie and Ben Bieman) of Ottawa, Ontario Canada; Jason and wife Carey Corbin (sons Caleb and Parker) of Tulsa, Ryan and wife Laura Corbin (children Christian and Caroline) of Tulsa.
