Teresa Kay Bolivar,&nbsp;50, of Sublette, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, in hospice in Hutchison, following a brief illness.

Teresa was born in Garden City, attended school in Sublette and Satanta and resided most of her life in Sublette.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel and Simona Alvarado, and her older brother Gabriel (Junior) Alvarado.

Teresa is survived by her children:&nbsp; Veronica B. Salazar (husband Patrick) and grandson Gabriel J. Salazar of Kansas City, MO, Jose Alejandro (Alex) Bolivar of the home, and Erik D. Bolivar of Liberal.&nbsp; She also leaves her sister, Antonia C. Roper (husband Michael) of Kansas City, MO, and a brother, Jose Luis (Joe) Alvarado of Kansas City, MO.

Ronald V. “Ron” Flaherty, age 78, of McPherson, passed away August 19, 2021, in Frankfort, KY. Ron graduated high school in Lincoln, in 1961. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1961 to 1964. After he served in the military, he hauled rock for Lincoln County. He enjoyed many years and had a very successful career as a surveyor for the State of Kansas. However, his true love was traveling the country with his wife, Nancy, and visiting many friends. It gave him much joy to visit and talk with anyone he met. Traveling in the motorhome all those miles meant many friends made in their RV group, Newmar Kansas Kountry Sunflowers. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Vincent Flaherty, and brothers, Russ and Gary. He is survived by: his wife, Nancy of 45 years; his children, Monja Kiefer (Todd), Chris Flaherty, and Heather Silhan (Joe); grandchildren, Paige Howe (Mason), Kai Kiefer, Jordan Kiefer, Emily Silhan, Brody Flaherty, Michael Silhan, Savannah Kiefer, Madison Kiefer, and Easton Babcock; a brother, Steve Flaherty (Melissa); and many extended family and friends. Eleanor was born on December 20, 1938, along with twin brother, Edwin, in Newton. The twins, born approximately 2 months early, were a surprise to their parents, Albert H. and Bertha R. (Regier) Busenitz, who were expecting only one beautiful baby. Eleanor grew up in a Godly home and trusted Christ as her Savior at an early age. Her decision to follow Christ became the center of how she viewed and practiced life.

Eleanor attended the rural one-room District 85 grammar school and went on to graduate from Berean Academy High School in 1957. During her high school years, she began dating Delmer Wiebe, but due to his upcoming commitment to spend two years in Paraguay for voluntary service, she attended Grace University in Omaha Nebraska. Upon Delmer‘s return from Paraguay, Eleanor and Delmer married on November 27, 1959 and settled in the local area. Together, they were blessed with four children and eventually, the family expanded to 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren at the time of her death. Eleanor was a promoter of hard work and discipline, never shying away from the responsibilities and obligations that come with being the oldest of eight children growing up on a farm. She often shared and repeated slogans which she learned during her childhood years. These “mom-isms” were short and simple but important messages which helped shape her children during their years at home. A less than energetic look during a chore or task was met with the phrase “Work is a blessing,” or a spilled glass of milk would initiate “Haste makes waste.” Eleanor loved to challenge others with riddles, and enjoyed writing poems that she delivered to each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on their birthdays. She also had a real heart for elderly people. On Halloween, we children went trick or treating to the homes of elderly people in the community, and she required us to sing a hymn for them before they gave us a treat. Baking was something Eleanor really enjoyed too. She loved baking yeast breads and often shared her delicious baked goods with her family and friends, which became her way of encouraging others. She enjoyed looking through cookbooks to find new recipes that sounded fun to make. Eleanor also loved the radio, listening to hymns and Christian programming while she worked. The radio was on from morning to night, allowing her to keep up with the news and to be encouraged by Christian radio speakers and good music. Many times she took notes of things she wanted to remember. Eleanor developed a mental toughness dealing with a variety of health issues that included lifetime effects of seizures from scarlet fever at age 7, type I diabetes at age 26, breast cancer, triple bypass surgery, near blindness, as well as the recent effects of dementia, but she never lost her faith or joy in living life. Eleanor passed away on Friday September 3, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Eldena Busenitz and grandson Kameron Wiebe. Eleanor’s greatest joy was her family, who will carry with them her example of living life with contentment and strong character. Eryka E. Gibbs was born on December 8, 1978, in Chester, PA, the second daughter of Ray and Shirley Gibbs. She departed this life on September 3, 2021, at the age of 42, at Salina Regional Health Center in Kansas. She lived in McPherson all her life and graduated from McPherson High School in 1997. She then briefly attended Johnson &amp; Wales University of Culinary Arts in Providence, Rhode Island. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, McPherson. Eryka was an adamant fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and many other things in life such as music (especially Tupac and Mary J. Blige), dancing, T.V., and laughing. On July 1, 2019, she wrote a note, “When I die, please tell my boys I love them and be good! Pray!” Eryka leaves to mourn: her three sons, Devantáe RaShawn Gibbs of Missouri, Darriene Artell Gibbs of McPherson, KS, and Dominick John Stimpson of McPherson, KS; her parents, Raymond &amp; Shirley Gibbs; sister, LyChelle Lawrence (Joel); and brother, Raymond Gibbs, II, all of McPherson, KS. Nick was born in Hutchinson, KS to Robert Eugene Prine and Norma Jean Rall. Nick moved to Great Falls, MT in 1979 with his stepdad, mother, 5 brothers &amp; 1 sister. He attended Lincoln Elementary, North Middle School and CMR High School in Great Falls. Growing up, Nick was known to follow his big brothers around and partake in their memorable adventures. As a kid, he was curious; often taking apart home appliances and putting them back together just to see how they worked.

Nick followed in the footsteps of his father and brothers by becoming an over the road driver. He perished in Puyallup, WA, while working for K&amp;K Trucking, based out of Great Falls, MT. Nick was a driver for 15 years, and worked for the Co-op in Max, ND for 5 years.

Nick was married to Denise Weyerman for 30 years. In the last year of his life he rekindled a relationship with a schoolmate and love of his life, Kristie Enger of Great Falls, MT. He is survived by his children; Josiah Green of Minot, ND, Justin Weyerman of Butte, ND and Alicia (Connor) Buxton of Herriman, UT. He has 5 grandchildren; Elleon, Dakota, Kyle, Dylan &amp; Meghan.

Nick is strongly remembered for being passionately devoted to his family and always willing to help a stranger. There were numerous encounters when Nick gave to others in need even when it meant he now was going to go without. He was always willing to give a helping hand to new drivers out on the road. He was an incredible provider and believed in a hard days’ work. He had an unbreakable bond with his brothers and loved his children and grandchildren without fail. In Nick’s downtime, you could find him fishing and appreciating all of God’s creations. He was a Kansas City Chiefs Fan and a KC Royals Fan!

Nick also has 32 nieces and nephews and 57 great nieces and nephews.

Nick was an organ donor of eyes, nerves and skin. May his recipients see the love in this world, feel a worm baited to a hook and have tough skin to persevere hardships in this life, such as our beloved Nick did. Rest high upon that mountain, Nick, and know that you left behind a legacy of love and unforgettable character to be merciful to mankind. There will be a celebration of life for Nick in the near future at the Yellowstone River in Montana.

Nickolas Eugene Prine |1972-2021|

Lawrence "Larry" R. Norton was born April 4, 1936, to Edward and Goldie (Blackwill) Norton on a farm south of Quinter, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Hays Kansas. He was 85.

He graduated from Park High School in 1954.&nbsp; He was a U.S. Veteran and served in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; On August 8, 1959, Larry married Bernita Waldman at St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas. They later divorced.

Larry spent most of his life farming with his parents, raised livestock and worked for various feed and seed companies.&nbsp; He also had two home based businesses of hoof trimming for horses and show cattle and the Norton Auction Service. Larry enjoyed traveling, watching and attending rodeos.&nbsp; He was an avid sports fan of the KC Chiefs, Royals, KU basketball and K-state football and basketball. Larry especially loved following his grandchildren’s sporting events through the years.&nbsp; His most treasured time was spent celebrating holidays and special events with family and friends.

Survivors include his five daughters, Christy Gillogly and husband Tim of Hays, Kansas, Carrie Barr and husband Frank of Hutchinson, Kansas, Kelly Shuagis and husband Steve of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, Karla Simons and husband Russ of Wichita, Kansas and Cody Kandt and husband Larry of Morganville, Kansas.&nbsp; His sisters, Marcella Rohleder and husband Frank of Thorton, Colorado, Louella Sullivan of Lakewood, Colorado, Armella Wetig and husband Jim of Russell, Kansas and Verdella Lewis and husband Leon of Wichita, Kansas, brother-in-law, Bill Campbell of Ridgeville, Ohio.&nbsp; He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Chelsey (Aaron) Ladd, Kylea Gillogly of Hays, Kansas, Kacey (Paul) Bowen, of Hendersonville Tennessee, Colin (Megan) Barr of Mission, Kansas, Ethan Shuagis, Jaxon Shuagis of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, Kennedy (Luke) Rogers of Wichita, Kansas, Kerrigan (Dante) Texeira of Wichita Kansas, Braiton Gassmann (girlfriend Jesslyn) of Hutchinson, Kansas, Brogan Kandt, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, Breckon Kandt of Salina, Kansas. In addition, Larry enjoyed four precious great grandchildren, Theodore Ladd, Audren Bowen, Simon and Penelope Rogers. He leaves behind his special companion Linda Schneider of Hill City, Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death was an infant daughter Mary Jean Norton, former spouse Bernita Norton, his parents Edward and Goldie Norton, sister Rosella Campbell, brother Leo Norton, brother-in laws Ralph Scheck and Jim Sullivan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 7th, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Park, KS.&nbsp; A Rosary Service will begin at 9:30 AM prior to Mass.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow the Mass in the St Michael's Catholic Cemetery - Collyer, KS at 1:00 PM.

 </figure>Lawrence "Larry" R. Norton was born April 4, 1936, to Edward and Goldie (Blackwill) Norton on a farm south of Quinter, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Hays Kansas. He was 85.He graduated from Park High School in 1954.&nbsp; He was a U.S. Veteran and served in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; On August 8, 1959, Larry married Bernita Waldman at St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas. They later divorced.Larry spent most of his life farming with his parents, raised livestock and worked for various feed and seed companies.&nbsp; He also had two home based businesses of hoof trimming for horses and show cattle and the Norton Auction Service. Larry enjoyed traveling, watching and attending rodeos.&nbsp; He was an avid sports fan of the KC Chiefs, Royals, KU basketball and K-state football and basketball. Larry especially loved following his grandchildren’s sporting events through the years.&nbsp; His most treasured time was spent celebrating holidays and special events with family and friends.Survivors include his five daughters, Christy Gillogly and husband Tim of Hays, Kansas, Carrie Barr and husband Frank of Hutchinson, Kansas, Kelly Shuagis and husband Steve of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, Karla Simons and husband Russ of Wichita, Kansas and Cody Kandt and husband Larry of Morganville, Kansas.&nbsp; His sisters, Marcella Rohleder and husband Frank of Thorton, Colorado, Louella Sullivan of Lakewood, Colorado, Armella Wetig and husband Jim of Russell, Kansas and Verdella Lewis and husband Leon of Wichita, Kansas, brother-in-law, Bill Campbell of Ridgeville, Ohio.&nbsp; He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Chelsey (Aaron) Ladd, Kylea Gillogly of Hays, Kansas, Kacey (Paul) Bowen, of Hendersonville Tennessee, Colin (Megan) Barr of Mission, Kansas, Ethan Shuagis, Jaxon Shuagis of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, Kennedy (Luke) Rogers of Wichita, Kansas, Kerrigan (Dante) Texeira of Wichita Kansas, Braiton Gassmann (girlfriend Jesslyn) of Hutchinson, Kansas, Brogan Kandt, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, Breckon Kandt of Salina, Kansas. In addition, Larry enjoyed four precious great grandchildren, Theodore Ladd, Audren Bowen, Simon and Penelope Rogers. John Brunner entered eternal life Sept. 1,2021 at his home in Newton, Kansas. John was born July 29,1941 in Wichita, KS, to Lawrence and Roberta (Gaedeke) Brunner. John was the youngest child, joining his brothers Robert and Larry and sister Jean Anne.

John grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1959. After graduating, he joined his father in the concrete contracting business. In 1965 he started work at Hesston Corporation which is now Agco. John retired from Agco after 37 years.

In 1966 he married Treva Abrahams in Newton, Kansas. She survives of the home. John and Treva had three children, Stephanie, Sean and Kimberly.

Throughout his adult life, John was active in Newton Community Theatre. One of his favorite roles was playing Pellinore in Camelot. John also served on the board of directors for Newton Community Theatre. He was also a member of the Chisholm Trail Festival board for 20 years, serving as chairman and entertainment coordinator. During his time as entertainment coordinator, John brought Sunday evening gospel concerts to the Chisholm Trail Festival.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry, mother and father in law Ed and Adaline Abrahams; brothers in law Barry Abrahams and Allen Abrahams and son Sean.

Surviving John are wife Treva of the home; daughters Stephanie (Gary) Bortz of Winfield, Kansas; Kimberly (Ed) Giesen of Wichita; brother Robert (Pat) of Athens, Texas; sister Jean Anne (Richard) Nuss of Woodinville, Washington and sister in law Mary Brunner (Tom Lewis) of Louisville, Colorado. Also surviving John are his five grandchildren: Kira Bortz, Overland Park; Alex Bortz and Haley Bortz of Winfield; Nikolai Giesen and Canaan Giesen of Wichita.

The family will greet visitors Monday, September 6 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Petersen’s Funeral Home, Newton. Michael W. Carter, 80, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at his home in North Newton, Kansas.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas to Emmett L. Carter and Doris O. (Knotts) Carter. He was a life-long resident of the Wichita area graduating from Wichita West High School. Michael attended Southern Methodist University, in Texas, as a member of the swimming team until returning to Wichita to step into management at the family’s business, Wichita Brass and Aluminum Foundry, Inc.

On a blind date, Michael met the love of his life and Miss Kansas contestant, Jennifer J. Peterman who he married only a couple of months later in 1965. They raised 2 amazing kids and enjoyed a full life! Michael enjoyed Reese’s, wood-working, fishing, flying his airplane and supporting his kids in their activities. Michael was nothing if not a cheerleader for others to reach their goals.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett L. and Doris O. Carter.

Michael is survived by his wife Jennifer J. (Peterman) Carter, son Casey M. Carter (Sabrina Miranda) of Redmond, WA, daughter Shara K. Luther Eugene “Gene” Meek, 94, of Little River, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2021, surrounded by family at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. He retired from Kansas Power &amp; Light in 1992 after 32 years of employment. He was born on July 29, 1927, in Oilton, OK, the son of Jesse and Rose Lee (Bullington) Meek. On June 29, 1952, Gene was united in marriage to Gladys Lela Smith at the Groveland Christian Church. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2016. Gene was a United States Navy veteran during WWII, stationed in Guam. He was a member of Groveland Christian Church and was a Boy Scout volunteer. He was also involved in multiple mission trips to Haiti and Spain. Survivors include: two sons, Dallas Meek (Caroline) of Frankfort, KY and Gary Meek (Doris) of Independence, MO; a daughter, Lori Viramontez (Dave) of Lyons, KS; a sister, Della Ellwood (Galland) of Little River, KS; eight grandchildren, Derek Viramontez, Tyler Viramontez (Emily), Andrew Meek (Taryn), Priscilla Meek, Ethan Meek, Stephen Meek, Caleb Meek (Willow), and Esther Meek; six great-grandchildren, Reagan Viramontez, Adelyn Viramontez, Noel Meek, Alarice Meek, Micah Meek, and Riah Meek; and many extended family and friends. Charles Edgar "Charlie" Burch, 87, of McPherson, KS passed away Saturday, September 4th, 2021 peacefully, at Salem Home, Hillsboro, Kansas. Charlie was born in Granola, Kansas on March 30, 1934, a son of Esther Elizabeth (Halfhill) and Edgar A. Burch. Charlie attended the Roxbury grade school and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury, Kansas in 1952. He occasionally attended Countryside Covenant Church with his daughter Molly. Charlie entered into the United States Navy on May 27, 1952 at Kansas City, Missouri and honorably served during the Korean War and was discharged on May 22, 1956. He received the National Defense Service Medal and his most significant duty assignment was U.S. Navrecsta Pearl Harbor, T.H. He served on the USS Moore and USS Wettaburn. He also earned the Realm of the Golden Dragon Card. Charles "Charlie" Edgar Burch was united in marriage to Gloria Rulona on May 9, 1954 in Kailua, Hawaii. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of five children, three daughters and two sons, Teresa, Charles Jr., Gloria Jean, Vaughan and Molly. Gloria died on February 3, 2019. Through the years Charlie worked for Kenneth Moone of Roxbury, Kansas as a Farm Hand, the city of McPherson as a Police officer and for the McPherson Park Department for 13 years before working for the County in the Sheriff's office for 17 years. He then began working for the McPherson County Public Works Department from which he retired in 1993. Charlie was a member of IOOF, and the Kansas Sheriff's Association. He enjoyed dogs, horses, growing plants, and loved his family. He also liked to cook and he canned the vegetables he grew. He also spent time watching TV, especially The Pioneer Woman. Charlie served as an armed color guard under President Eisenhower and was Bob Dole's personal driver while visiting McPherson County. He is survived by his children, Teresa Mandevill, of Bluff City, Kansas, Charles Burch, Jr. and wife Miriam, of Baldwin City, Kansas, Gloria Jean Vernon and husband Larry, of McPherson, Kansas, Vaughan Burch and wife Jennifer, of McPherson, Kansas, and Molly Stucky and husband Dale, of McPherson, Kansas; his sisters, Ruth "Liz" Anderson and husband Carl, of Big Drake, Colorado and Margaret Zimmerman and husband Elmer, of McPherson, Kansas; his 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Through the years Ricky worked for Emerson Chisholm moving mobile homes, drove truck for the Roth Ice Plant, Farmland Industries, several construction companies in Texas, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas and was a self employed contractor. Rick enjoyed softball, archery, golf, hunting, fishing, and excelled at all of them. He is survived by Gerry Vance, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Lisa Nelson (Travis), of Harrisonville, MO, Ret. DV SGT. Dorothy Lee Byard, 94, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 3, 2021 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. 

She was born November 26, 1926, in Lyons, the daughter of Everett and Bertha Schwartz Poland. Dorothy was a near lifelong Lyons resident. She graduated from Lyons High School. Dorothy was a farm wife. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons. Dorothy enjoyed farming, tending to her cattle, and mowing the lawn. On August 4, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage with Howard Stanley Byard in Scott Field, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Virginia Hendrickson. Dorothy is survived by her son, Dennis L. Byard and wife Vickie of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Sheryl D. Myers and fiancé, John Rupright of Salina, KS; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Born September 1, 1931 at Hutchinson, KS she was the daughter of Floyd and Adah Lutz.

She was a farmer’s wife hauling many meals to the field.

She graduated Nursing school with her RN degree from the old St. Mary’s Hospital of Hutchison. She worked for Dr. C. Everett Brown, Stafford District Hospital, Leisure Homestead and St. John Hospital.

She was an active member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and Stafford First United Methodist Church, many church boards, also a Sunday School Teacher, UMW group. She was the coordinator of the UMW Funeral dinners and help with the Bazaars. She was a Girl Scout Leader. She was on the Library Board for many a year.

She married Marion Lee Hearn Oct 24, 1952 at Stafford First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son Dale and wife Virginia. 3 Granddaughter’s Amber Vierthaler (Dustin) Hutchison, Ashley Foos (Robby) Stafford, Alesia Cook (Justin) Wichita. 11 great&nbsp; grandchildren, Chris, Madison, Katelyn, Koltin, Lucas, Benjamin, Halee, Bryleigh, Avery, Declyn and Zayna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion, son Douglas.

Dorothy grew up on her family’s farm in Carver, MN. She worked as a nurse before leaving to enlist in the Army Air Corps during World War II where she rose to the rank of sergeant even while having limited use of one arm due to contracting polio as a child. Richard Scherer, an Army Air Corps corporal, proposed to Dorothy on the night they met. Richard Scherer and Dorothy Scherer were married within weeks of that proposal and would remain married for nearly 67 years until Richard’s passing in 2013. After being discharged, the pair enrolled at Oklahoma State University where Dorothy earned her Bachelor of Science in Education. Upon graduation, Dorothy and Richard moved to Wichita, KS to establish their life together. Dorothy had a heart of service that led her to organizing a class for special needs children and adults at Holy Cross Lutheran Church and leading them for many years as their teacher. Dorothy also volunteered with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and received the Lamb Award from the Boy Scouts of America for her service. Jaymie Lynn O’Dell, 69, of McPherson, KS, unexpectedly passed away to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at McPherson Hospital. She was a dōTERRA Wellness Consultant and owned Lavish Essential Oils, LLC. She was also an interior designer.

Jaymie was born on December 19, 1951, in Pueblo, CO, the daughter of Chester Arthur and Rose Amelia (Moore) Schmidt. She graduated from Aldine High School in Houston, TX and later from McPherson College in 1999 with an Interior Design degree. On December 19, 1970, she was united in marriage to David A. O’Dell at the Church of God in McPherson. This union was blessed with two daughters, Crystal and Rozalynn.

She was a member of Countryside Covenant Church where she was active in Bible study and small groups. She was a volunteer for Oak Harbor Cottages and a member of McPherson Master Gardeners Club and former member of Sweet Adelines. She was also involved with the Apples of Gold Ministry and was a Kansas City BBQ Master Judge.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 50 years, David of the home; two daughters, Crystal Clobes of Hutchinson, KS and Rozalynn Frey (Ken) of Hesston, KS; six grandchildren, Acacia Clobes, Adelaide Clobes, Lilly Smith, Cooper Frey, Carter Frey, and Caris Frey; four siblings, Amelia Patrie (Chuck) of West Lafayette, IN, Richard Schmidt (Denise) of Spring Branch, TX, Calvin Schmidt of Hockley, TX, and Drew Schmidt (Glenda) of Montgomery, TX; a brother-in-law, Danny O’Dell of McPherson, KS; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

R. Faye Steffen, 79, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away September 2, 2021 at Legend of Hutchinson, Kansas. 

She was born June 28, 1942 at home in Pawnee Rock, Kansas, the daughter of Willard A. Wilson and Ruby E. Blau. Faye was a 1960 graduate of Pawnee Rock High School. She graduated from Fort Hays State College with a Bachelor’s in Mathematics in 1964 and a Master’s in Mathematics in 1965. Faye taught at Pawnee Rock High School and later was a teller at Farmer State Bank, Sterling. On August 16, 1964, she married Thomas M. Steffen in Great Bend, Kansas. The couple have two daughters, Lynette (Brian Day), and grandchildren, Sydney and Carson all of Shawnee, KS; and daughter, Tonya (Tim Benning), and grandchildren, Lucas, Craig, Evan, Lauren, Logan, and Drue all of Wichita, KS; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sharol Livengood; and brother, Lynn Wilson.

Lynda Sue Anderson, 66, of Smolan passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at her home.  Lynda was born February 11, 1955 in Salina, KS to Leo E. and  JoAnn (Lindgren) Anderson.  

Lynda was a 1973 graduate of Lindsborg High School.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Bethany College in 1977.  She was a physical education teacher in the Washington school district, and coached volleyball and basketball at Washington High School, in Washington, KS, for 30 years. In 1983, Lynda was the 2A Kansas State High School Coach of the Year.

Lynda was a member of Salemsborg Lutheran Church. She also served as a Kansas State High School Athletics Association official for volleyball and basketball.  Lynda was named the Bethany College’s 2009 Alumni Coach of the Year.

She is survived by her brother: Doug Anderson (Mary Beth) of Lindsborg, KS;  her sisters: Jane MacDonald (Patrick) of Smolan, KS, and Sonja Marston (Richard) of Roxbury, KS; aunt: Jeanette Waage of Lindsborg, KS; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Lynda is preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7 from 5-7PM at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.

Lucille Gladine Knox, 88, died September 2, 2021, at Sandstone Heights. She was born February 10, 1933, in Hiattville, to Nathan and Dorothy (Kalm) Crays.

Affectionately known as Lu, Mom, Grandma, Grandma-Great, Great-Great Grandma, and Aunt Lu, Lucille graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1950. There, she met her lifetime sweetheart, Gene Knox. They married quickly on April 14, 1951, as he was heading off to the Korean War. They shared almost 69 years of marriage before his death on March 19, 2020. She and Gene had three children: Ty Knox, Debbie Vagts, and Cindy Knox.

Lucille was a mom, homemaker, and managed the family printing business until her youngest child went to jr. high school. She then worked at the Hutchinson Clinic for over 15 years.

Lucille was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and later First United Methodist Church of Little River. She loved to volunteer, serving in Methodist Women, teaching Sunday school, being a Cub Scout den mother, Brownie leader, Girl Scout leader, and a room mother. Lucille was active in the League of Women Voters, Little River Domestic Arts Club, and an over 50-year member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.

Known for her optimism and kind heart, she was always focused on her family, going with Gene to sporting events, music programs, and anything else the kids were involved in.

Lucille is survived by: her children, Ty Knox and wife Brenda of Hutchinson, Debbie Vagts and husband David of Little River and Cindy Knox of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, David Vagts Jr. (Julie), JoEllen Wilson (Dave), Kristie Bowen (Clint), Keith Vagts (Tina), Brian Vagts (Kayla); great-grandchildren, Kyly Cannon (Steven), Jordon Vagts, Tristen Vagts, RJ Kendall, Casey Kincaid, Andrea Bagby, Baylor Bowen, Banks Bowen, Addison Vagts, Jaxon Vagts, Ethan Vagts, Aubri Vagts; great-great-grandchildren, Hadleigh Radenbaugh, Hayleigh Radenbaugh, and Hatcher Cannon. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, James Crays; and sister-in-law, Paulette Crays.

Larry Oliver McCowan, 84, passed away September 2, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born August 26, 1937, in Cassville, MO, son of Oliver William and Alta Mae (Ziebell) McCowan.

Larry graduated from Wichita West High School in 1955.&nbsp; He then entered the Navy as an airplane mechanic, until his honorable discharge in 1958. Larry was employed as a truck driver for Dillons, retiring with 26 years of service and earning multiple safety certificates.&nbsp; He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 795. Larry enjoyed carpentry, traveling throughout the United States and Canada with his family, volunteering for numerous charity organizations, and serving on hot-air balloon chase crews. He was a charter member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church and a former member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, serving as Temporal Affairs Elder.

Larry is described by family and friends as a timeless classic who showed love and support through his deeds, rather than just his words.

On July 3, 1965, he married Linda M. Ward, at First Presbyterian Church, in Great Bend.&nbsp; They shared 56 years of marriage.

Michael Patrick “Mike” Kinney 53, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, surrounded by his wife and their two daughters, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born May 24, 1968, in Hutchinson, to George E. and Janice Kay (Corson) Kinney.

Mike graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1986 and The University of Kansas in 1990, where he was member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.&nbsp; He excelled as a small business owner and entrepreneur, currently owning Bio Control Services. &nbsp;Mike’s faith, family and friends were paramount in his life. His passion for golf awarded him many local tournament titles but more importantly, numerous friends. Mike was thrilled to be a part of the 2021 HCC NJCAA golf championship team, serving as the assistant coach. &nbsp;He was a KU basketball fanatic, a huge lifelong Chiefs fan and a fantasy football enthusiast. In addition, Mike served on the Hutchinson Golf Council, recently played in the Kansas Senior Amateur golf tournament, and was a member of Prairie Dunes Country Club, where he played in the Senior Club Champion tournament just one week ago.&nbsp;

Mike was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful volunteer as a youth group sponsor for the past fifteen years and helped lead multiple youth group mission trips.&nbsp; He was the life of the party at the youth group kickoff the evening before his health emergency.&nbsp; Mike’s legacy will live on through the impact he made on countless youth through the years.

Mike was a “girl dad” through and through.&nbsp; He spent countless hours having tea parties and being on the soccer sidelines, golf course, and tennis court, watching his girls do the things they loved. He was a devoted son, husband, and girl dad, never missing an opportunity to support his wife and two daughters.&nbsp; After his mother’s death, he was a doting son to his father.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On December 18, 1993, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Megan Wagerle, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

Mike is survived by: wife, Megan of Hutchinson; daughters, Molly Kinney of Emporia, and Meredith Kinney of Hutchinson; father, George Kinney of Hutchinson; brother, Gregory Kinney (Lezlee) of Keller, TX; in-laws, Larry and Sue Wagerle of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Jennifer Howard (Chad) of Olathe; nieces and nephews, Morgan, Hayley, Brett, Luke, and Sarah; and his furry girls, Quincy and Sami.

Norton resident Wilmer E. Severns passed away Tuesday, August 31, 
2021, at the Hutchinson Health and Rehab in Hutchinson, KS at the age of 
96.

Wilmer was born November 15, 1924, on a farm in Norton County, Kansas 
the son of Ross E. and Irma H. (Colip) Severns.&nbsp; He served in the United
 States Army during WWII.&nbsp; Upon returning he received his bachelor’s 
degree from the Manhattan Christian College and began his Christian 
Ministry, preaching until the age of 93.

He was united in marriage to Eileen Juan Fisher on May 30, 1948, in Norton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on January 15, 2015.

Survivors include his daughter Wava Goetz of Great Falls, Montana; 
two sons Wayne Severns of Auburndale, Florida and Jerry Severns of 
Hutchinson, Kansas; a brother Virgil Severns of Fairbanks, Alaska; a 
sister Margaret Leonard of Topeka, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great 
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Norton Christian Church in 
Norton, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 with Pastor 
Nate Hagen officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military honors will follow in the 
Norton Cemetery, Norton.

“Jim” James Anthony Patterson, 64, passed away on Sunday, 29 August 2021 at his home in Valley Center. Jim was born 16 December 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert L “Bob” Patterson, Sr and Margaret Ann Hutchins Patterson. Jim was a resident of Omaha Ne; Griswold, Iowa; and since 2006, Valley Center. Jim spent many years working for Presto-X Extermination, before his cancer diagnosis.

Jim graduated from Bryan High 1975 in Omaha, Ne. Jim married Donna Hamtak Kenney 1975-1980. They had two children, Andrea and Jessica. Jim married Sherri Patterson 27Jan1992. They adopted two children, Kristen and Matthew. Jim had two step children, Daniel and Kira.

Jim died. Jim had cancer. Jim had three cancers, in fact. Jim did not lose “his battle” with cancer. He did not lose “his fight” with cancer. These words imply he had a choice. It implies he had some form of control over the cancers. There was no choice. There was no control. Cancer did not beat him. It took over his body, but cancer did not win. If Jim would have died of old age, people would not say he lost his battle with age. Cancer is a societal issue we as a group face. But's it's not a personal battle to be won or lost. &nbsp;Jim did not succumb to cancer. Jim triumphed. Jim owned his life because cancer could not take his spirit, his humor, his joy, his faith. Cancer could not reduce his love for his wife… his children.. his grandchildren. Jim took control of his “bonus years.” Jim fought to live his life as he chose. Jim’s body was ravaged by a force that he could not control; but Jim controlled his attitude towards it, and how he responded to what was happening to his body. If you asked Jim how he was feeling, he’d often say “just peachy.” His positive attitude never faltered. “It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”~unknown. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jim died from cancer, but cancer didn’t win.

They had two children, Andrea and Jessica. Jim married Sherri Patterson 27Jan1992. They adopted two children, Kristen and Matthew. Jim had two step children, Daniel and Kira.Jim died. Jim had cancer. Jim had three cancers, in fact. Jim did not lose “his battle” with cancer. He did not lose “his fight” with cancer. These words imply he had a choice. It implies he had some form of control over the cancers. There was no choice. There was no control. Cancer did not beat him. It took over his body, but cancer did not win. If Jim would have died of old age, people would not say he lost his battle with age. Cancer is a societal issue we as a group face. But's it's not a personal battle to be won or lost. &nbsp;Jim did not succumb to cancer. Jim triumphed. Jim owned his life because cancer could not take his spirit, his humor, his joy, his faith. Cancer could not reduce his love for his wife… his children.. his grandchildren. Jim took control of his “bonus years.” Jim fought to live his life as he chose. Jim’s body was ravaged by a force that he could not control; but Jim controlled his attitude towards it, and how he responded to what was happening to his body. Clinton Frederick Pitts, 69, of Nickerson, passed away on August 27, 2021, at his home.&nbsp; Clinton was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado on June 26, 1952 to Frederick and Ruby ( Stillwell) Pitts.

Clinton had tremendous affection for his grandchildren and an interest in antiques and country music.

Clinton was preceded in death by his first wife Linda ( Gadberry) and his second wife Anita ( McCollum), siblings; Darlene Palmer, Loren Keith Haverfield, Dale Haverfield, Mary Katherine Dobbins.

Clinton is survived by his children by Linda:&nbsp; Loretta ( Doug) Franz, who lives in Hutchinson; and Crystal ( Ryan) Gardiner, who lives in Houston, Texas.&nbsp; Clinton is also survived by his children by Anita:&nbsp; Clinton Brauner, who lives in Los Angeles, California, Loren ( Andreas ) Meyer, who lives in Hutchinson; Stormy Pitts, who lives in Great Bend; and Triston ( Colette) Pitts, who lives in Geneseo.&nbsp; In addition to his children, Clinton is survived by several siblings: including his sisters, Twana ( Milo) Thompson and Twilla ( Charlie) Peaster, and his brothers Robert ( Janet) Pitts, Wayne ( Vicky) Haverfield, and Garrett ( Bobbie) Haverfield.

A private celebration of Clinton's life is being held at a family home in Hutchinson.
