Donna M. Unruh 93, died June 27, 2021 at Paramount (Asbury Park) Newton.  She was born May 10, 1928 to Egbert and Inez (Hanna) Schuessler.  On May 2, 1948 she married Jack A. Unruh at Newton, Kansas and he survives.

Donna was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Newton.  She has been co-owner and bookkeeper for Marshall Furniture in Newton since 1980. In her early working years Donna worked at Midland Bank and was a Teacher Aide at Lincoln Elementary in Newton.

She had a love of art and classical music and instilled that love in her children.  She enjoyed attending and supporting the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony.  She and her husband enjoyed playing pinochle with their friends and she enjoyed square dancing in her younger years.  Family was important to Donna and she looked forward to spending time with her family and keeping up with their activities.

Donna is survived by her husband of 73 years Jack of the home; sons Steven (LaNae) Unruh of Moundridge and Gary (Suzanne) Unruh of Richmond, TX; daughter Cheryl (Robert) Ferris of Newton. She is also survived by her brother Albert (Shirley) Schuessler; sisters Marilyn (Don) Mosiman, Joyce Yock and sister in law Donna Schuessler.  There are 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren that survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant son Douglas Alan, brother James Schuessler, brother in law Jim Yock, son in law Jack Smith and son in law Chuck .

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Albert Schuessler presiding.  Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday July 5th with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapel.  Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.

Irene Louise Parks-Stahly was born December 21, 1946 in Caldwell, Idaho, to Alvin and Dorothy Harris.

Within a few years the family moved to Quincy, Washington, where Irene experienced her first personal miraculous answer to prayer. But it was not until three years later at 8 years of age that she submitted her life to God and his plan for her. As a teenager, God provided her with many Christian friends as she was active in her local youth group, her churches’ state organization, and Youth for Christ.

Irene attended Central Christian College and it was during this time that she became settled and developed a daily devotion time with God. Her life phrase: “God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him” became a personal goal.

It was also at Central that she met and married Lyle Parks, later making their first home in Hesston, Kansas. To this marriage two daughters were born, Sandra Lee and Sara Jayne.

At the request of Lyle’s employment, Hesston Corporation, the family moved to Claremore, Oklahoma, where Irene was active in her local church. The couple later started a church in their home and founded Parham Industries, Inc., an agriculture products and steel fabrication company. Irene was involved, from supporter, to office positions, to truck driver, etc. Then at 47 years of age, Irene found herself as a widow, managing that manufacturing company and leaning hard on God. It was during this time that all kinds of miracles happened and God became even more real to her.

During those seven years He sent solutions to problems, friends and family to support, employees with scriptures left on her desk, and daily reminders of His provision. It was a difficult, but precious time in her life.

Following the sale of that company, Irene became a chaplain for Marketplace Ministries and related in Kansas City, Kansas. During her 12 years of singles God sent a promise – Hab. 1:5 “Look….watch and be amazed, I will do something in your lifetime that will amaze you. You won’t believe it even when you are told about it.”, and surely he did just that! Bob Stahly re-entered her life and they were married in 2006 and Irene again made her home in Hesston, Kansas. Hospitality then became the focus: from family reunions to Bible study meetings in their home, to overnight guests as well as long term live-ins. It was at this time in Irene’s life that the Oswald Chambers quote became her goal: “It is the work that God does through us that counts, not what we do FOR him”. To Irene that meant: having a right relationship with God, Him bringing the opportunities, and then Him using her gifts to glorify Him. What an easy life to live!

A visitation will be from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, on Tuesday, June 29th, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas. A funeral service will be Wednesday, June 30th, at the Hesston Mennonite-Brethren Church, 610 W. Randall St., in Hesston, with graveside to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery.

Martha “Marty” Rose Rutschman, 92, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021, at Newton Medical Center Health in Newton, KS, surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 10, 1929, in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Herbert and Belva May Smith. Marty attended Newton High School, graduating with the class of 1947.

On June 11, 1950, Marty was united in marriage to Jacob Paul Rutschman at the First Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas.

They celebrated 62 years of marriage shortly before his passing in 2012.  Over the years, Marty and Paul enjoyed camping, fishing, square dancing, and time with family and friends.

Marty began working as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Newton, KS when she was 18 years old, and continued her career with AT&amp;T in Wichita, KS before retiring.

Marty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed watching WSU and KU basketball games on TV and occasionally in person. She was fond of watching the birds at her feeder, and she liked to identify and keep track of the various species that visited her front yard. Another favorite pastime was reading, researching, and shopping on her computer. Her computer skills were still remarkable as a 92 year old.

Marty is survived by her son, Lyle Rutschman of Newton, KS; daughters, Patty (Randy) Wedel of Overland Park, KS, Nancy (Don) Glenn of Wichita, KS, and Judi (Ron) Arnold of Lakewood, CA; grandchildren, Laura (Jeremy) Zellers, Lindsay (Mark) Dreitzler, Sarah Glenn, and Greg Glenn; great-grandchildren, Austin Zellers, Ashley Zellers, Megan Dreitzler, and Leah Dreitzler.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Paul Rutschman; parents, Herbert and Belva Smith; sister, Marion Hinshaw;  brothers, Herbert Smith Jr., Vernon Smith, Bill Smith, and Jerry Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 1st, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with Pastor Chip Bungard officiating.  Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton will follow the service.

Milan Levi Henne, 92, of Roxbury, KS, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Lindsborg Community Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1928, in Roxbury, to Francis and Sarah (Hesher) Henne.

Milan graduated from Roxbury High School in 1946. He served in the United States Marine Corps, playing French Horn in the First Marine Division Band. He was very proud to have marched in front of President Truman, and also in a Rose Bowl Parade. Milan attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1953.

He farmed for many years, operating a dairy north of Roxbury. Milan was also involved in banking for over sixty-five years, serving as Director and Chairman of the Board of the Roxbury State Bank, and was a member of the Kansas Bankers Association 50 Year Club. He was a longstanding member of the Roxbury United Parish Church and served as treasurer, Board Chairman, and adult Sunday School teacher. Milan was also heavily involved in the community, serving on the boards of the Roxbury School, Lindsborg Community Hospital, and Dickinson County Rural Water District #2. In addition, Milan was a member of the Roxbury American Legion and read the names of veterans during the Memorial Day remembrance at the Valley View Cemetery in Roxbury for many years.

He married Nadine B Ingram on June 1, 1952 in Canton, KS. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2015.

Survivors include: sister Verna Belle Forsberg; son Greg (Andrea), grandson Christopher (Brittainy), great-granddaughter Allison, granddaughter Megan (Travis) Limbocker; daughter Pam Kellogg, grandchildren Sarah (Jordan) Vogt and John; grandson Brandon Wolfe; son Brad (Maria), grandchildren Lara, Samuel, and Angel; son Stan (Jackie), grandchildren Aaron, Riley, and Kerri; daughter Karla (Greg) Girard, granddaughters Alayna and Elise; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Nadine, Milan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ivan, sister Delilah Ingram, and his daughter, Loretta Wolfe.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Crick-Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg, KS.

Marcelene Henning, 89, died June 28, 2021 at the Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born Nov. 11, 1931 the daughter of Acey M. and Viola Rodgers Frey.  A longtime Kingman resident, she was a retired hairdresser.

She was also preceded in death by daughter Dorinda Dudley; and granddaughter Kimberly Hetzler.

John Wesley Graham, 84, of Burrton, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 at his home.  He was born June 9, 1937 in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Lettie (Litton) Graham.

John was a member of Haven Baptist Church since 1974.   He volunteered as activity planner for the senior members, greeter, deacon and mission’s treasurer.

He was united in marriage to Mamie Sheib on November 14, 1959 in Auburn, Nebraska.

John worked for Haven Steel for 20 years, retiring in 1999.  He worked the forge for the first 15 years, and in his last five years of employment, John was an expeditor.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie Graham of Burrton; daughter, Janet (David) Baker of Lynchburg, VA; son, Bill (Dianna) Graham of Nickerson; six grandchildren, Tyler (Jaclyn) Baker, Austin (Alexandria) Baker, Hillary Baker, Wesley (Jamie) Graham, Joshua (Jaimie) Graham, and David Graham; two great-grandchildren, Ellianna Grace Graham and Boden David Baker; one great-grandchild on the way; and sister-in-law, Judith Graham of WaKeeney.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Graham; sister, Anita Nevy; and three half-brothers, Elzo, Ernest and Charles Lint.

Denny James Walthers, 77, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 7:00 a.m., Saturday, June 26th, 2021 suddenly at his residence. 

Denny was born in Arvada, Colorado on February 5, 1944 during World War II and was adopted when he was 3 days old by his loving and caring parents Walter Edgar and Ruby (Beanblossom) Walthers, who dedicated their lives to his care until their respective deaths. 

Denny enjoyed his fireworks and the 4th of July was his favorite holiday, target shooting, loved animals especially his 3 dogs, Angel, Chi Chi and Cinder and spending time with his friends and family. 

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Smith, of Charleston, South Carolina and Angela Fehr and her husband Michael, of Salina, Kansas. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Chloe, Caleb, Edward (EJ) and Grayson. 

Denny was preceded in death by his father, Walter Walthers; his mother Ruby Walthers; his wife Marcia Walthers and his uncles, Milton and Ervin Walthers. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. 

Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson, Kansas.

Norma Joan Greever, 89, passed away on June 28, 2021, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born December 5, 1931, in Shawnee, OK, to William L. and Goldie E. (Olson) Stokes.

Norma was a 1949 graduate of Haven High School, Haven, and Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was employed as a physician’s assistant in the offices of Dr. Ross T. Shook and Dr. Scott E. Sellers.&nbsp; Norma was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

On June 6, 1950, she married Donald Lee Greever, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He passed away on April 26, 1975.

Norma is survived by:&nbsp; sons, Don L. Greever, Jr. of Texas, Michael (Kim) Greever of Buhler, and Gary (Aleena) Greever of Hutchinson; sister, Wilma Gentry of California; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Peg Dodge of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned per Norma’s wishes.

He is survived by: sister, Vicky McFarland and husband Kenneth; nephew, Aaron McFarland, all of Nickerson; aunt, Ora Henry of Hutchinson; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; grandparents, Harmon and Zetta Frye and Calvin and Lottie Neuenschwander; and niece, Robin Dawn McFarland.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Keith A. Dellenbach presiding. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Huntsville.  Military honors will be conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.

Clarence William Hageman, 82, of Burrton, died June 25, 2021, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He was born April 7, 1939, in Willowdale, to Clement and Rosa (Bayer) Hageman.

Clarence began welding when he was 16 years old. He taught himself and went on to weld at many different jobs over the course of his life. Clarence also worked farming wheat fields. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 612. Clarence also collected John Deere. He was a member at St. Teresa Catholic Church.

On June 7, 1958, he married MaryLou Libel at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ost, Ks. They shared 63 years together.

Rachel Ann (Esau) Neufeld, 90, went home to be with Jesus on June 25, 2021 at the Pleasant View Home in Inman, Kansas. She was born April 30, 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Nick and Helen (Regier) Esau.

Rachel graduated from Buhler High School and attended Bethel College. She married her high school sweetheart, Wilbur Neufeld, April 2, 1950. They shared 70 years together.

Rachel was a lifelong resident of Buhler and member of Buhler Mennonite Church. She was the librarian at the Buhler Public Library for 27 years where she impacted many lives. Her favorite pastimes were swimming, reading, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Wayne Neufeld and wife Pamela, Buhler; daughter, Lindy Hildebrandt, Hutchinson; grandsons Kelly Neufeld and wife Stacy, Baldwin City, Corey Neufeld and wife Michelle, Gardner; granddaughter Kasey Noggle and husband Monty, Inman; nine great grandchildren; and sister Helma Lou Kerens, Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, daughter Jane Neufeld, son-in-law Bill Hildebrandt, and brother Dr. Willis Esau.

Betty J. Haines, 89, died June 25, 2021, after a seven year wait to be back with the love of her life and in the arms of God.  She was born April 22, 1932, to Glen and Minnie Davis in Burrton, KS.  She was a graduate of Burrton High School.  Betty worked as a loan officer at Central Kansas Credit Union, retiring with 17 years of service.  She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and spending time with family.  Betty was full of stories about her life, had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and was known for her wild collection of ‘Crocs’.  Her infectious smile will be missed by all.

On April 6, 1957, she married John F. Haines.  For 57 years, they danced their way through life together, enjoying lots of traveling to visit their families and catching as much sightseeing and thimbles as they could along the way.

Ron drove a milk truck his entire life. First, for his step-father and then later buying his own route and becoming a successful milk hauler. He loved seeing his producers every day when he picked up their milk and visiting with them. Ron had many interests throughout his life including raising champion appaloosa horses, flying, sailing, playing softball, traveling, and in his later years, driving his tractor and gator around his farm.

Ron is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Mies; brother, Roger Sealey; and his first wife, Priscilla Sealey.

He is survived by his wife and constant companion of 30 years, Vicky Sealey; brother, Jim Mies; sisters, Gina Gregory (Jim); Marie Saunders (Monte); and Maggie Asher (Chris Ennis.) He will be dearly missed by his cats and dog, Buster.

Ronald Sealey |2021|

Lois Ruth Neher, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She died from a ruptured brain aneurysm.

Lois was born in McPherson, KS on December 20, 1928. Her parents moved to Pampa, TX, where Lois grew up. She attended McPherson College, graduating in 1951. She began her career teaching elementary school in Newton, KS. Lois married Gerald A. Neher on December 23, 1952.

In 1954 the young couple went to the mission field in Nigeria with the Church of the Brethren, where they raised their four children. Over the next fourteen years, Lois instructed adults in Chibok, Mubi, and Kulp Bible School. They returned to the US in 1968, where Lois taught elementary school in Illinois. She retired from the public school system in Anna, IL in 1989.

Lois and Gerald raised full-blood Simmental cattle, Appaloosa horses, Greater Swiss Mountain dogs, and a menagerie of other animals on their farm in Anna. They hosted many foreign exchange students. They were members of the United Methodist Church in Anna and Carbondale, IL.

In 2008 Lois and Gerald moved back to McPherson and resided at the Cedars Retirement Community. Lois co-authored two books with her husband: Life Among the Chibok of Nigeria and Glimpses of Life in Northeast Nigeria: 1954 - 1968. She was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan A. Yoder and Fidelia (Frantz) Yoder Stubbs, and by her husband, Gerald. She is survived by her children Rodney Neher (Mary) of Janesville, WI; Karen Neher (Mahamoud) of McPherson, KS; Bryce Neher (Melissa) of Udell, IA; and Connie Weesner (Bill) of Hutchinson, KS; and by the following grandchildren: Ben Neher, Isaac Neher (Betsy), Joel Neher, Kyle Neher (Danielle), Luke Neher, Courtney Weesner, and Annie Weesner. She is also survived by her brother Gordon Yoder (Ann) of Longmont, CO.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 3, at the McPherson Church of the Brethren. Note: masks will be required at the service. Inurnment will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Lois Ruth Neher, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She died from a ruptured brain aneurysm.Lois was born in McPherson, KS on December 20, 1928. Her parents moved to Pampa, TX, where Lois grew up. She attended McPherson College, graduating in 1951. She began her career teaching elementary school in Newton, KS. Lois married Gerald A. Neher on December 23, 1952.In 1954 the young couple went to the mission field in Nigeria with the Church of the Brethren, where they raised their four children. Over the next fourteen years, Lois instructed adults in Chibok, Mubi, and Kulp Bible School. They returned to the US in 1968, where Lois taught elementary school in Illinois. She retired from the public school system in Anna, IL in 1989.Lois and Gerald raised full-blood Simmental cattle, Appaloosa horses, Greater Swiss Mountain dogs, and a menagerie of other animals on their farm in Anna. They hosted many foreign exchange students. Lois Ruth Neher |1928-2021|

On Saturday June 26, 2021, Carolyn Kay Spencer entered Heaven’s Gate.  

She was born Carolyn Kay Shipman on February 15, 1944.  Carolyn was the daughter of Orris and Audine (Arnold) Shipman.  She was a 1962 graduate of Florence High School.  She was united in marriage 59 years ago to Edmond Spencer on May 24, 1962.  Carolyn, Edmond and their family have owned and operated the Town and Country Café in Florence for the last 25 years.  She loved playing on her computer and enjoyed singing.  Carolyn was the official grandchild spoiler and did a great job of it.  She enjoyed cooking and fishing with the family.  

Carolyn and Edmond have three children Matt Spencer, Eddie Spencer and Becky Spencer; she was like a mother to her “Daughter in Loves” Darla Spencer and Kelley Spencer and son in law Bruce Fetrow.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her without exception; Dallas Wells, Kasey Orlik, Hunter Spencer, Kaylyn Spencer, Dakota Spencer, Shyla Harris, Shyann Harris, Lillianna Salamoni- Harris and Barrett Orlik.  Carolyn was met in Heaven by her parents, and numerous brothers and sisters.  She gave love and received love from everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed and always loved.  

Carolyn’s family will gather with friends on Friday July 2, 2021, at the Christian Church of Florence for her funeral service led by Pastor Mitchell Diemer.  She will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence following the service.  Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.

Joyce’s life began on June 28, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Thelma (Hinnen) Vogelman in Newton, Kansas. She attended Westpoint one room schoolhouse near the family farm in Potwin, Kansas. She graduated from Potwin High, Class of 1951. Her working career started out at the Potwin State Bank and also managed her family farm. She was an Assistant Director for the nursing home in Garden City and retired as an Administrative Assistant for the Kansas Turnpike Authority in 1998. On March 10, 1953, Joyce married Joseph O. Whitmore and they had two children, Fred &amp; Ann. Joyce married Carroll D. Taylor on July 5, 1991. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church in Wichita where she taught Sunday School, she also sang and played the piano whenever requested. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing and reading. Devotions were an important way for her to start her day.

Her loving family includes her son and his wife, Fred and Leslie Whitmore of Richardson, Texas; daughters and their husbands, Ann and Caesar Mercado of Prosper, Texas, Dena and Robert Pettersen of Wichita, Dhera and Lonnie Hoffman of Groton, South Dakota; sister, Mary Lou  (Jim) Jacobs of  Oro Valley, Arizona; brother, Donald Vogelman of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Katie Whitmore, Luke Whitmore, Jennifer Armstrong (Brad), David Mercado (Melissa), Michelle Mercado, Jennifer Melcher (Joshua), Matthew Pettersen, Becah Fliehs (Trey), Amy Goodwin (Jamie), Margaret Hoffman (Andre Keller); great-grandchildren, Jaina, Tobin, James, Christopher, Alexander, Taylor, Mya, Emme, James, Daisy, Amelia and Ivy.

Virgul W. Bengston, 84, of Hutchinson, KS, and formerly of rural McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021, surrounded by family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer and rancher and worked for 37 years at NCRA Refinery.

Virgul was born on January 13, 1937, in McPherson, KS, the son of John William and Hildur Caroline (Ekholm) Bengston. He graduated from Windom High School. Virgul was united in marriage to Carole V. (Bundy) McNutt on September 18, 1978, in Hutchinson.

He attended Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson and was an associate member of Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge in Hutchinson.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Carole of the home; children, Pam (Darrel) Thiessen, Connie (Scott) Achilles, and Kevin Bengston (Mary Sneath), all of Inman, KS; step-daughter, Kathryn (Pat) Kendrick of Hesston, KS; a brother, Willard (Joyce) Bengston of Windom, KS; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Chester, Evert, and Arvid Bengston; sisters, Gloria Plooster and Carolyn Hanna; daughter-in-law, Kim Bengston; and step-son, James McNutt.

Alice Marie Phillips, 82, of Hutchinson, passed away June 25, 2021. She was born August 21, 1938, in Wichita, to Glenn and Betty (Sawhill) Nagel.

Alice graduated from Valley Center High School in 1956. She was an aide for Mrs. Greathouse at Nickerson Grade School and an auction clerk. Alice was a 4-H leader for over 50 years and enjoyed judging projects at county fairs. She would do anything for her 4-H kids. Many people looked forward to her yearly rounds as Mrs. Clause, passing out candy canes in the community. Alice was a Reno County Pork Producer for many years. She was also active in the Eastern Star until she became ill. If there was a place that Alice could volunteer she would, and do it with a smile on her face.

On October 1, 1960, she married Charles Stuckey. He passed away October 7, 1962. On July 16, 1965, Alice married Duane R. Phillips, in Hutchinson.

She is survived by: husband, Duane Phillips; daughter, Donna Phillips; granddaughter, Brieonna Phillips (Alec Jenson), all of Hutchinson; sisters, Nancy Pedersen, Royal, Nebraska, Barbara Carlson, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Noralee Matousek (Bob), Valley Center; and brother, John Nagel (Barbara), Wamego.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers-in-law, K.L. Carlson and Randy Pedersen.

Pratt - Matthew Bryan Futrell, 36, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at his home. He was born May 16, 1985 in Pratt to John Lee and Patricia "Pat" Clara (Pinger) Futrell.

Matthew graduated from Pratt High School in 2003. He worked as an overnight stocker with Wal-Mart. He enjoyed video gaming and fishing.

He is survived by his parents, John and Pat Futrell of Pratt; brother, James "Jay" Anthony (Lindsey) Futrell of Lawrence; and nephews, Thomas Allen Futrell and Johnny Austin Futrell.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cyril and Celie Mae Pinger and Jimmie and Freda Futrell.

Matthew Bryan Futrell |1985-2021|

Acensia "Cynthia" Martinez, 92, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 1:10 a.m., Friday, June 25th, 2021 at McPherson Hospital.

Cynthia was born in Little River, Kansas on March 25, 1929 to Placida (Gomez) and Gregorio Martinez.

She attended Little River grade school and graduated from Little River High School, Little River, Kansas in 1947. She then attended Adele Hale Business School. She lived in Little River, Kansas until 1963 when she then moved to McPherson, Kansas.

In her early years, Cynthia worked as a baby sitter, at the local grocery store and produce company. She later worked for General Dynamic Astronautics and Farmers Alliance Insurance Company as a supervisor until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, where she was a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Rosary Leader and one of many which counted Sunday collections and was formerly a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Little River, Kansas where she was Baptized in 1929.

Cynthia always loved an adventure and a challenge, whether it was a new sewing embroidery project, new plants for her garden or traveling to new places. She loved shopping, playing cards and trips to the casino. She would frequently be found playing golf at Alliance Acres. Most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her brother John (Diane) Martinez, of McPherson and sister Patrosinia (John) Oltmanns, of Wichita, Kansas. Her nephews, Jerry Oltmanns, of Wichita, Kansas, Greg Oltmanns, of Walnut Creek, California, David Martinez, of McPherson, Kansas and Mark Martinez, of Timnath, Colorado. Acensia was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Placida Martinez; and her sisters, Sister Patricia Martinez OP and Antonia "Tonie" Martinez and a nephew.

Acensia "Cynthia" Martinez, 92, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 1:10 a.m., Friday, June 25th, 2021 at McPherson Hospital.Cynthia was born in Little River, Kansas on March 25, 1929 to Placida (Gomez) and Gregorio Martinez.She attended Little River grade school and graduated from Little River High School, Little River, Kansas in 1947. She then attended Adele Hale Business School. She lived in Little River, Kansas until 1963 when she then moved to McPherson, Kansas.In her early years, Cynthia worked as a baby sitter, at the local grocery store and produce company. She later worked for General Dynamic Astronautics and Farmers Alliance Insurance Company as a supervisor until her retirement.She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, where she was a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Rosary Leader and one of many which counted Sunday collections and was formerly a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Little River, Kansas where she was Baptized in 1929.Cynthia always loved an adventure and a challenge, whether it was a new sewing embroidery project, new plants for her garden or traveling to new places. She loved shopping, playing cards and trips to the casino. She would frequently be found playing golf at Alliance Acres. Most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews.She is survived by her brother John (Diane) Martinez, of McPherson and sister Patrosinia (John) Oltmanns, of Wichita, Kansas. Her nephews, Jerry Oltmanns, of Wichita, Kansas, Greg Oltmanns, of Walnut Creek, California, David Martinez, of McPherson, Kansas and Mark Martinez, of Timnath, Colorado. Keith Kimple, 91, of rural Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 23, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. 

He was born August 26, 1929 in Lyons, the son of Adolph D. and Lena Gray Kimple. Keith grew up the youngest of five children and his mother died when he was 11, just as World War II was beginning. As he helped his brother and father on the farm, he had a special enthusiasm for working with horses and continued that interest the rest of his life. Following his graduation from Lyons High School in 1947, he attended Sterling College for one year. He then transferred to Kansas State University where he spent three years and majored in Animal Husbandry. He particularly enjoyed his friendships made through Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity during this time. There he met Marilyn Jones of Penalosa, Kansas and they were married on March 18, 1951. 

Shortly into their married life, instead of completing a final college semester, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, they returned to Kansas and became part of a new community, farming in the nearby Saxman area where they have resided for 67 years. During the 1950’s, there were opportunities for socializing with other young veterans participating in the G.I. Bill’s “On-Farm Training Program” and he looked back on those times fondly. As his family grew up, he was actively involved with Saxman Presbyterian Church, rural school activities and 4-H leadership. As a farmer-rancher, he was particularly proud of being one of the early breeders of Charolais cattle in the state, and also an early advocate of cross-breeding in Kansas. After their children left home, Keith and Marilyn continued for many years leading and participating in small groups such as Memorize the Word, mentoring at the Hutchinson Reformatory and he served as an elder during the early years of Faith Bible Church in Lyons. He wanted it known that he had rededicated his life to Christ in 1972 and that his spiritual life had become more meaningful to him from that time on. Keith greatly enjoyed hunting and especially fishing throughout his life, passing that interest on to his children and grandchildren, especially savoring the occasional trips to Minnesota or Canada. He had a lifetime creative drive, learning to craft leather while in the Marines and was still working every day in his leather-working cabin and usually in his woodshop through the month of his death. He greatly enjoyed the relationships he had with his immediate family as well as with his nieces, nephews and neighbors. 

He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 70 years; his son Kris Kimple and wife Melinda of Beloit, Kansas; two daughters, Kandace Jones and husband Ashley of Wichita, Kansas and Bonnie Kimple of Lyons; six grandchildren, Jessica Hodges and husband Jacob of Iowa City, Iowa and their children, Ezra, Caroline and Elliot, Daniel Kimple and wife Veronica of Quincy, Illinois and their children, Hazel and Harrison, Travis Kimple and wife Anh of Garden City, Kansas, Lena Lohrenz and husband Anthony of Wichita, Kansas and their children Willow, Declan and Rowan, Claudia Hills and husband David of Ewa Beach, Hawaii and their daughter, Alana, and Gracia Jones of Wichita, Kansas. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Florence Jones Kimple; three brother, Stanley, A.J. and infant brother Chester Kimple; two sisters, Lois Janssen and Francis Tobias. 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Faith Bible Church, Lyons with pastor Phil Green officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M., July 10, 2021 at the Lerado Cemetery, rural Langdon, Kansas with military honors by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, July 9, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
