John L. Schultz, 89, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler.  He was born on August 1, 1931, at Hillsboro, KS., the son of John and Lena (Loewen) Schultz.

John worked as an auto salesman with Shep Chevrolet at Haven, KS. for 24 years before his retirement.  During retirement he sold glider rockers at Adrian’s A-Z Furniture in Buhler, KS.

John was united in marriage to Viola Ruth “Vi” Funk on November 8, 1952, at Hillsboro.  She survives.

He was a man of strong faith and was a member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. John had a love for cars, motorcycles, and sports.

He is survived by his wife, Vi, of Buhler; daughter, Donna Hensley and her husband Allan of Nampa, ID.; son, Darrell Schultz and his wife Christi of Buhler; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra “Debbie” Maberry and her husband Dave; sister, Alma Warkentin and her husband Albert; two brothers, Harry Schultz and his wife Bertha, LeRoy Schultz and his wife Lila.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Buhler MB Church.  Private burial will take place at Buhler Municipal Cemetery. As she was raising her boys she was active in Boy Scouts and followed her son’s sports teams.  She worked concession stands at her son’s sports events and especially enjoyed making cotton candy.  In her retirement years she took up genealogy research and enjoyed tracking down and documenting her family’s history by going through newspaper and county records.

Mary is survived by her husband Wesley of the home; sons: Robert (Cindy) Nault, Scott (Pauly) Nault, Jon (Eileen) Nault and Wesley Jr. (Wendy) Nault; she is also survived by her sister Martha (Jack) Hooton, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents brothers Lawrence and Bill Klatt and sister Lenna Aldean.

A visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 7th at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel.  A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 8th at Sedgwick Christian Church in Sedgwick Kansas. Private family interment will be in Hillside Cemetery Sedgwick, Kansas.

Verene Eason 94, died July 2, 2021 at Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kansas.  She was born August 3, 1926 in Montezuma, Kansas to Peter and Lena (Wedel) Jantz.  On February 16, 1946 she married Homer J. Eason in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2005.

Verene attended Meridian Baptist Church in Newton and worked in the transportation department at the former Northview Developmental Services in Newton.

She had a wide variety of interest including crocheting, drawing, tending flowers and bird watching. Verene also had a love of music and enjoyed singing, playing piano and guitar. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her large family and not only caring for them but also watching out for the neighborhood children which she thought as her own.

She is survived by her sons: Gary, Larry, Billy, Ronald (Cathy), Ricky, George, Homer and John Eason and one daughter Jolene Eason.  She is also survived by a Brother Dalin Jantz and sister Evelyn Jantz. She has 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

Verene is preceded in death by her husband Homer, parents, sisters Neola, Sadie, Lilian, Elvera and Jane and two brothers Verlin and Ines.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 8th 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Duane Moraine presiding.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home. A private interment will be in the Restlawn Garden of Memory Newton.

Evelyn Marie “Lynn” Miller, 97, of McPherson, died December 8, 2020, at the Cedars in McPherson. She was born July 3, 1923, in Hutchinson, to Henry and Gladys (Bobey) Lanning.

Lynn graduated from Hutchinson High School. She was a clothing buyer for Pegues Department Store, giving her the opportunity to travel all over the country. In their early days, Lynn and her husband loved to go dancing and spent most weekends at the Moose Lodge in Hutchinson. She loved bridge and played with many different groups. Family was the most important thing to Lynn.

On August 14, 1943, she married Donald Miller, in Tucson, Arizona. They shared 35 years together before he passed away on August 31, 1978.

Lynn is survived by:&nbsp; son, Doug Miller, McPherson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband, Don Miller; sisters, Ruby Snyder and Doris Griffin; and brother, Wilbur Lanning.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. Fourth Street, Hutchinson, KS&nbsp; 67501. Roy D. Harris, 99, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 30, 1921 on his family farm east of Coats to Frank and Mabel (Landon) Harris. Roy married Edna (Boese) Harris on July 17, 1949. They were married for 71 years.

Roy graduated from Coats High School in 1939. He joined the United States Army Air Corps in July 1942. He was a proud World War II Veteran, who served as a Flight Instructor, who loved to fly, in Altus and Enid, Oklahoma. He worked as a farmer and was a rural letter carrier. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and formerly a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed spending time farming, riding the tractor and driving around, fishing, deer hunting, traveling, doing genealogy, attending his grandsons activities and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter, Carla Harris; son, Roger W. (Barb) Harris all of Pratt; grandsons, Andrew (Katie) Harris of Rogers, Arkansas and Paul (Andrea) Harris of Manhattan; and great grandchildren, Lucas, Samuel, Margaret, Peter, and Lucy Harris.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis Harris; and sisters, Mildred Sanderson and Margaret Jean Releford.

Dexter Keith Cotter, age 88, passed away on June 29, 2021 in Wichita, Ks. 

He was born on September 27,1932 in Harper County, OK., the son of Rex H. and Gladys P. (Gilchrist) Cotter. On August 23, 1952 he married Orma Lee Roberts in Buffalo, OK. Dexter served 22 years in the U.S. Army Reserves with active duty during the Korean Conflict.  He retired as a Master Sergeant. He worked at Boeing, the U.S. Postal Service and was a 32nd Degree Mason, all in Wichita, KS. In 1989 he retired as the Postmaster of Hudson, KS. Dexter was a kind gentleman who loved fishing, bowling and especially loved being with his family. 

Dexter is survived by his wife Orma, Wichita, Ks.; two sons, Doug (Connie) Cotter, Wichita, KS, and Chris ( Ann) Cotter,Wichita, KS.; a sister, Dorothy Barton, Derby, KS.; grandchildren David ( Claire) Cotter, Jeffrey (Megan) Cotter, Cara ( Eric) Smeltzer, Abbey Cotter and Eric Cotter; great grandchildren Braden, Lily, Evie, Violet and Hudson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Jerry; sisters, Betty, Darlene, Dixie and Jeanie.

Danny Wayne “Dan” Minix, 57, of Raymond, Kansas, passed away June 30, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. 

He was born April 27, 1964 in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Donald Jean “Don” and Nancy Harrison Minix. Dan graduated from Haviland High School, with the class of 1982. He has resided in Raymond since 2000, formerly of Haviland, Kansas. Dan was a photographer for various companies. He was a member of KMA (Kansas Muzzleloaders Association). 

Dan is survived by his mother, Nancy Minix of Raymond, KS; sister, Darla (Minix) Nall with Chris Rohr of Hutchinson, KS; niece, Amber Nall and her son Asher Moise both of Wellington, FL. He is preceded in death by his father, Don Minix. 

Graveside service will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Raymond Hilltop Cemetery, Raymond, with Pastor Oscar Gomez officiating. Danny Wayne "Dan" Minix |1964-2021|

Scott’s life began on July 7, 1968, in Charleston, SC.  

He was the son of the late Lynn Carter and Cathy (Gerry) Henderson.  Scott is a graduate of El Dorado High School and received his Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education from Emporia State University.  Scott served as the Superintendent of Schools in Herington KS, Kingman KS, Queets WA, and Shepherd MT; and devoted his professional life to finding new and innovative ways to reach and educate his students.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed the outdoors and exploring.  Scott was a world traveler, visiting and working in the Middle East, China, Kuwait, Alaska and so many more destinations.  He was united in marriage to Andrea (Shomaker) on December 24, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.  

He is survived by his wife Andrea of Billings, MT; children Kathlynn (Tyler) Neufeld of Hesston, Elizabeth Carter of Topeka, and Herschel Carter of Billings, MT., parents Gerry and Cathy Henderson of Marion, siblings Andy Carter of Chicago, John Henderson of Austin, TX, and Barbara (Adam) Henderson White of Covington, KY and several nephews.  Scott passed away on Wednesday June 30, 2021, at Newton Medical Center.  He is preceded in death by his father Lynn Carter.

Gale’s life began on February 15, 1952, in Winfield.  

He was the son of Millard and Laura (Parks) Shipman.  Gale is a graduate of Howard High School and attended both Pittsburg State University and Emporia State University, where he was a member of the ROTC.  He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Penner on May 20, 1975, in Emporia.  Gale worked as the head zookeeper at the David Traylor Zoo in Emporia. He worked for the Zoo for over 18 years caring for their animals.  Gale was instrumental in establishing the Jones Park Disc Golf Course in Emporia through his work in the parks department.  He has many hobbies including stained glass making, being an aquarium hobbyist, RC airplane modeler, and recently a video gamer.  Gale had a great love for both Disneyworld and Disneyland, even going as far as to interview for a zoo position at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in its earliest days.  Gale was an animal caregiver at heart and certainly enjoyed smoking his cigars.  

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Shipman of Marion; siblings Ron (Connie) Shipman of Marion, and Pam (Martin) Sharp of Wichita; nephews and nieces Paul (Lori) Shipman, Lenn (Andi) Shipman, Brett (Angela) Sharp and Chad Sharp.  Gale passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Vernadene D. Christensen, 95, passed away July 2, 2021 at her home in Buhler. She was born on March 22, 1926 in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Glenn T. and Minnie (Honeman) Smith.

Vernadene was a graduate of Elkhart High School. She worked at Eddie’s Dough Plant in Inman and provided child care for children who called her “Nanny”. She had a love for Arts &amp; Crafts, including crochet, painting, quilting &amp; sewing. Vernadene and Vernon attended many craft fairs, selling the many items they made together.  She was a homemaker and loved her time spent with family and friends, playing cards &amp; games. Vernadene was an excellent baker &amp; cook and enjoyed attending pot lucks and exchanging recipes. She was known for her cinnamon rolls and Red Velvet Cake. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson.

Vernadene married Vernon F. Christensen on December 14, 1945 in Elkhart, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Vernon, a true soul mate; a granddaughter, Lora Carlson of Buhler; a sister, Glenda Dickey of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and many nieces &amp; nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cheryl Carlson; two sisters, Velma Welch and Nelda Rhoads; and one brother, Harold “Sonny” Smith.

Cremation is planned. Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m., with a Memorial Mass to follow, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson. Private inurnment will be at the Andover Lutheran Cemetery, Windom, Kansas.

Nancy Beth Shaw (born Royer) passed away June 29, 2021 in Wichita, KS.  She was 73 years old.

Beth, as many of her friends and family called her, was born January 22, 1948 in Sterling, KS.  She grew up in Alden, KS, the oldest of three children to Delbert and Helen Royer, until she went to college at Emporia State University, where she met Paul Shaw.  Beth and Paul were married August 17, 1969 and stayed married for the rest of her life. 

Shortly after they married, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy and they moved to the Washington, DC area.  While in DC, Beth's passion for reading spilled into her professional life and she became a school librarian.  They decided to move back to Kansas in 1974 to be closer to family as their own grew.  She spent a few years running a daycare while their youngest of five children was too young to attend school, but in 1987 Beth became an elementary school librarian in the Valley Center school district.  She worked there for 35 years before retiring in 2012.  

Beth was an extremely devoted person with a passion for service.  She was always willing to help cook or clean for an event, fundraiser, holiday, or any other special occasion.  She attended as many sporting events, concerts and plays for her children and grandchildren as time would allow, and was often an active participant in parents' clubs and organizations.  Beth enjoyed doing anything that aided or supported someone else.  Beth cared deeply for all people, and anyone who became Beth's friend was a friend for life. 

Beth is survived by her husband Paul; their oldest daughter Paula Smith and Paula's husband Dave, and their children Jake and Katie; their son Kenny; their son Mike and Mike's wife Sarah, and their daughters Anne, Olivia and Faith; their youngest son Randy and his husband Josh; their youngest daughter Cheryl; and her brothers Bob and Jack Royer and their families.

Beth will be remembered at a service at Christ Lutheran Church, 5356 N Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219, on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11 am.  There will be a visitation with family beginning at 9:30 am, and lunch will be provided after the service.  All are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in her memory to Christ Lutheran Church or Trinity Academy.

Janice LaRee Conner, 88, passed away June 29, 2021, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson.  She was born January 11, 1933, in Pratt, to Walter Edwin and Elvira Belle (Meredith) Northrop.

Janice was a 1951 graduate of Pratt High School, Pratt.  She worked many years at Mennonite Friendship Communities in the housekeeping/laundry department and as a nurse aide. 

On March 3, 1951, she married Anthony ‘Tony’ D. McGraw, in Pratt.  He died December 11, 1972.  Janice married Wayne E. Conner, in South Hutchinson, on October 5, 1973.  He died April 3, 1988.

She is survived by:  children, David (Beverly) McGraw of Florida, Daniel McGraw of Hutchinson, and Ginger Shumpert of Wichita; grandchildren, John (Tina) McGraw, Jim (Angie) McGraw, Anthony McGraw, Kimberly Guerrero, Sean (Savannah) McGraw, Kelly (Bryan) Dickerson, Isaac Millett, and Alex (Morgan) Shumpert; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Conner; brother, Harry Northrop; daughter-in-law, Sherry McGraw; and son-in-law, Terry Millett.

He was born on October 21, 1925 to Albert and Anna Lehrman Schmidt at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, Kansas. He grew up on the family farm near Goessel, Kansas, and attended the Tabor Mennonite Church where he was baptized on June 13, 1943. In the fall of 1946 he volunteered as a Seagoing Cowboy to help care for some 777 horses that were to be shipped to what was then Yugoslavia. He stayed involved with grain and small dairy farming for a number of years.

On June 4, 1954 he married Ilene Schroeder in Aberdeen, Idaho. They had met at Bethel College where Ilene was working for the president and he was working in the business office. To this union were born three sons, Rodney Alan, Charles Albert, and William Jon. After marriage they joined the Bethel College Mennonite Church in October of 1954, where Hartzel was an active member of the Sojourners Sunday school class.

Hartzel graduated from Bethel College in 1955 and received an MBA from Wichita State University in 1962. During the fall semester in 1969 while he attended a seminar on “Change in Higher Education” at Claremont graduate school the family lived in Montclair, CA. He was employed by Bethel College in various capacities in the Business Office for 18 years leaving in 1970, after which he worked at First Kansas Life insurance Company, followed by real estate sales.

Hartzel enjoyed doing things outdoors and with family, such as annual summer vacations in Colorado and serving as scoutmaster in scouting.

Always a strong believer in community service, he served as Mayor of the City of North Newton (1977-1987) and on the Boards for Kidron Bethel Retirement Services, Bethel Deaconess Hospital and Home, Chamber of Commerce, Harvey County Economic Development, Sand Creek Watershed, and Newton/North Newton Planning and Zoning. He was Treasurer at the Bethel College Mennonite Church. From 1993 to 1995 Hartzel and Ilene served two years as volunteers in Akron, Pennsylvania, at Self-Help Crafts (now Ten Thousand Villages). In later years, he enjoyed volunteering at The Et Cetera Shop.

A persistent raconteur, Hartzel always left laughs and jokes and good friends in his wake.

He had a long-standing interest in genealogy, family history and Mennonite history. He and Ilene visited the former Mennonite settlements in the Ukraine, and took other trips to Europe and many parts of the United States, Canada and Mexico. During his later years much time was spent reading, working on genealogy and thinking about matters related to theology. He also spent many hours listening to and watching Great Courses DVDs, a number of which contain revelations by scientists about our universe and our planet earth.

He is survived by wife Ilene, sons Rodney A. (Elizabeth Kintner) and daughters Laurel and Jennifer; Charles A (Janie Becker), son Adam and daughter Nicole (Terry) Asay, and great grandchildren Arlo, Alec and Amelia; William J. (Lori Voran) and daughters Becky and Rochelle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Terry Lee Bashore, 74, died June 29, 2021 at the Salina Regional Medical Center. He was born February 28, 1947 in Reading PA, the son of Rufus and Cathaline Ratliff Bashore. He married Louise Troutman on March 30, 1969 in Rehrersburg, PA. He was a dairy and grain farmer all of his life. A resident of McPherson the last 15 years, he attended Bethel Mennonite Church, Inman. He was a member of the International Harvester Collectors KS Chapter #3.

He is survived by his wife of the home; children, Teresa Bashore, Temple, PA and Rodger (Buffi) Bashore, McPherson; brothers, Donald, Ricki, Steve, and Robert Bashore, all of PA; a sister, Judy Kramer, PA; and grandchildren, Courtney (Will) Garringer and Nathan Bashore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Boltz.

Family will receive friends from 5-7pm Monday, July 5, 2021 at Inman Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at N. Inman Cemetery with Memorial Services to follow at 11:00 at Bethel Mennonite Church, Inman. Services will be live streamed on the church website. Theodore Henry "Ted" Jorns, 66 of Preston, KS went home to his Lord and Savior on June 24, 2021.

He was born the son of Reinhardt T. Jorns and Izola (Quasebarth) Jorns October 13, 1954 in Pratt, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Natrona, KS, and Lutheran Laymen's League Men's Club, former LLL Zone Treasurer. He sang in the Church Choir. He was appointed a delegate to the LCMS Kansas District Convention. His hobbies included collecting trains, taking pictures and reading. He also helped with the church LLL pancake supper.

He served 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring in 1996 with the rank of E6. He received the Bronze Star.

Ted worked for the US Post Office, Pratt and the Pratt Tribune.

Theodore is survived by his sisters, Marianne (Gary) McGuire of Pratt, Kristina (Daniel, Sr.) Deardoff of Brandon, SD., and Janet Jorns of Offerle, KS, many nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Natrona, KS .,

Billie “Bill” Wayne Van Zandt, 91 of Newton, Kansas died June 26th, 2021 at his new home in Paramount Community Living and Rehabin Newton.

He was born December 13, 1929 in Marion County, Arkansas outside of Flippin, the son of MacBeth Young Van Zandt and Winnie (Vick) Victoria Dudley Van Zandt.

Bill worked as a second shift maintenance mechanic at Cessna for many years. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Wretha James Van Zandt and his second wife of 24 years, Carolyn Busenitz Van Zandt.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Connie M. Van Zandt of Memphis, TN and Vicky A. Atkinson (Philip) of Goddard, KS as well as three granddaughters, Susanna Atkinson,Valerie Shannon (Mickey) and Micaela Atkinson.

Graveside services will be at Garden Community Church, 6520 N. Halstead Road Moundridge, Kansas at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 7th 2021 with Pastor Gary Jansen Presiding.  There will be no visitation.

Ronald D. “Ron” Simmons, was born in 1947, son of Dorothy (Mock) and Earl Simmons.  Preceded in death by his parents and wife:  Dixie (Cochran) Simmons.  Survived by:  sons Bradley Simmons/Jasmin Gartland and Ron Simmons/Angie Simmons, daughters Kristen Lepping/Shane Lepping and Trisha Rick/Kevin Rick, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters.

Raised in Hutchinson, Ron moved to Denver and attended Rocky Mountain College of Christ before returning to live in Assaria.  He was an active member of the Church of Christ for many years, serving in various capacities.

Ron’s final career was as an over-the-road hauler, and he worked hard to build a custom hauler to take Dixie along to see the states until she was no longer able to travel with him.  He traveled the US and into Mexico and Canada, finally settling into retirement in Assaria.  He was passionate about auto mechanics, and learning; he was an avid and accomplished hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed time on his cycles and watching a good car race.  He also enjoyed singing, dancing and playing pool; and spent a few years doing family photography.  His final years were spent in Salina being cared for by family.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Ronald D. Simmons |1947-2021|

Dean Elliott, the only son of Robert Arnold and Marie A. (Colwell) Elliott, was born on January 18, 1944 in McPherson, Kansas. Dean would never know his true father for he died while he was serving in the military during W.W.II. in November of 1943 just a couple months before Dean’s birth. His mother, Marie later was united in marriage to Paul Barker, the only dad Dean ever knew. He always thought he was lucky to have three sets of grandparents because other kids only had two. They all made him feel special when he was a little kid. Dean attended Washington grade school and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1962. He then attended and graduated from McPherson College and had several jobs which all prepared him for his final job, selling Insurance and Real Estate. 

On April 2, 1966, Dean was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Donna Sue Kaufman in McPherson at the First Mennonite Church. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson and this union was blessed with the birth of three children, one daughter and two sons, Jamie was born in 1969, followed by Christopher in 1973 and Andrew in 1977. 

Dean worked as a Insurance Agent and later became a Realtor for Century 21 Landmark, Co. owned by Wayne Holecek. Dean said one of the luckiest things that happened was to buy the Insurance and Real Estate Agency from some people that treated him like their own son. Dean later changed the name to Elliott Insurance and Real Estate. He was so proud of the fact that his sons followed in his footsteps and they were able to work side by side with them and they continue to serve McPherson the way he did. During those 34 years, he met some really nice people and made some good friends. 

Dean was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in McPherson. He served on many different committees at the church and tried to take all the Bible studies that were offered. He also faithfully served on the Opera House board and served as President, Hospital board, was a Lions Club member serving as Treasurer and President, and served on the McPherson College Board of Trustees. He received the Citation of Merit Award from McPherson College and he said he never could figure out why he got that award but he was proud of it. 

Dean was a Christian, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend to many. His wise counsel, gentle but firm guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his children and always wanted the best for them. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits and times they would share together. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, motorcycle riding, and going on many trips. 

Dean Elliott, 77, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 surrounded by the love of his life and his family at his home. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and parents, Robert, Marie, and Paul. 

Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of over 55 years, Donna Elliott, of the home; his children, Jamie Elliott (Jake) of McPherson, Chris Elliott (Tammy) of McPherson, and Andy Elliott (Sarah) of McPherson; his eight grandchildren, Dylan, Jordan (Adrain), Emily, Caylee, Clayton, Kenna, Adam, and Reese; his sister, Paula Larson of McPherson; other relatives and a host of friends. 

The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson with Pastors Emily Cannon and Terry Post officiating. . 

Burial was at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.

Dean Elliott |1944-2021|

Rita Joanne Lillard, was born to Kenneth and Janice (Stackhouse) Coker on August 1, 1956, in Hoisington, KS.&nbsp;

Rita married David 
LaMonte Lillard on March 03, 1974. They raised their two children, 
LaMonte &amp; Virginia “Jenni”, in her home town of Hoisington, KS, 
where she worked in the nursing home rising in the ranks until she 
earned her Associates degree of Nursing from Barton County Community 
College and began work as a Registered Nurse. They later moved to 
Houston, TX, where David and his brother George started Discovery 
Systems Computer Company, and Rita worked as the primary book keeper, as
 well as continuing to work as a nurse. David was the love of her life, 
married for 47 years, they shared a strong Christian faith and they 
enjoyed many activities together, including traveling, going to 
restaurants, and attending the Airshow. Above all Rita whole heartedly 
loved her family, especially her two children and four grandchildren, 
and of course her animals. Her grandchildren loved her hugs, and the 
adventures they went on, even if it was just a trip out for ice cream. 
They loved her Easter baskets, and blowing bubbles together, and her 
cooking, especially her ham, baked beans, and deviled eggs.

She passed away on June 20, 2021, at 9:25 a.m. at the age of 64 being murdered, along with her daughter.

She is survived by her
 husband, David Lillard of the home; her son, LaMonte Lillard (Crystal) 
Katy, TX; her grandchildren, Anja, John, Clara, and Emma Lillard; her 
brothers, Keith Coker, Hoisington, KS, and Richard Coker (Deanna) 
Hutchinson, KS; her sisters, Cheryl Coker, Hutchinson, KS, and Nancy 
Shives (Ronnie), Hoisington, KS; a brother-in-law, George Lillard 
(Jeanette) Houston, TX; her sisters-in-law, Deloise Paris, Greenville, 
TX, and Sylvia Mauldin, Ft. Worth, TX; and many beloved nieces and 
nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 
daughter, Virginia Lillard; her parent; a brother, Gerald Coker; and 
brothers-in-law, Gerald Lillard, and Pete Paris.

Virginia “Jenni” Lillian Lillard, was born to David &amp; Rita (Coker) Lillard on October 16, 1981, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp;

She grew up in 
Hoisington, KS, before her family moved to Houston, TX, where she 
graduated high school. She had a strong love of animals from a very 
young age, so after high school she attended Bel-Rea Institute of Animal
 Technology in Denver. She worked as a Veterinary Technician for many 
years, before deciding that she also wanted to “be the boss” so she 
decided to get her Bachelor of Administration from Strayer University 
where she graduated Suma Cum Laude! Jenni devoted her life’s work to 
helping animals wherever she went, and was known as “The Cat Whisperer.”
 She was a loving friend, daughter, sister and Aunt, and her nieces and 
nephew adored her. She had a strong Christian faith, which showed not 
only in her deep love of her family and animals, but also in how she 
cared for the owners of her patients. She was as soft hearted as she was

She passed away on June 20, 2021, at 9:25 a.m. at the age of 39 being murdered, along with her mother.

She is survived by her
 father, David Lillard, Houston, TX; a brother, LaMonte Lillard 
(Crystal) Katy, TX; her nieces, Anja, Clara, and Emma Lillard; a nephew,
 John Lillard; her uncles, George Lillard (Jeanette) Houston, TX, 
Richard Coker (Deanna) Hutchinson, KS, and Keith Coker, Hoisington, KS; 
her aunts, Deloise Paris, Greenville, TX, Sylvia Mauldin, Ft. Worth, TX,
 Cheryl Coker, Hutchinson, KS, and Nancy Shives (Ronnie), Hoisington, 
KS; and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, 
Rita Joanne Lillard; her grandparents, Kenneth &amp; Janice Coker and 
George P Lillard II, &amp; Evora Jean Smith; and her uncles, Gerald 
Coker, Gerald Lillard, and Pete Paris.

Cremation has taken 
place and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., 
Friday, July 9, 2021, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main St., 
Hoisington, KS 67544. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., July
 10, 2021 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Pastor Chris Lehew 
presiding. Ashes will be inurned at Claflin Cemetery, Claflin, KS. 
Memorials may be given to the Hoisington Veterinary Hospital Stray 
Animal Fund, in the name of Rita &amp; Virginia “Jenni” Lillard, in care

 </figure>Rita Joanne Lillard, was born to Kenneth and Janice (Stackhouse) Coker on August 1, 1956, in Hoisington, KS.&nbsp;Rita married David 
LaMonte Lillard on March 03, 1974. They raised their two children, 
LaMonte &amp; Virginia “Jenni”, in her home town of Hoisington, KS, 
where she worked in the nursing home rising in the ranks until she 
earned her Associates degree of Nursing from Barton County Community 
College and began work as a Registered Nurse. They later moved to 
Houston, TX, where David and his brother George started Discovery 
Systems Computer Company, and Rita worked as the primary book keeper, as
 well as continuing to work as a nurse. David was the love of her life, 
married for 47 years, they shared a strong Christian faith and they 
enjoyed many activities together, including traveling, going to 
restaurants, and attending the Airshow. Above all Rita whole heartedly 
loved her family, especially her two children and four grandchildren, 
and of course her animals. Her grandchildren loved her hugs, and the 
adventures they went on, even if it was just a trip out for ice cream. 
They loved her Easter baskets, and blowing bubbles together, and her 
cooking, especially her ham, baked beans, and deviled eggs.She passed away on June 20, 2021, at 9:25 a.m. at the age of 64 being murdered, along with her daughter.She is survived by her
 husband, David Lillard of the home; her son, LaMonte Lillard (Crystal) 
Katy, TX; her grandchildren, Anja, John, Clara, and Emma Lillard; her 
brothers, Keith Coker, Hoisington, KS, and Richard Coker (Deanna) 
Hutchinson, KS; her sisters, Cheryl Coker, Hutchinson, KS, and Nancy 
Shives (Ronnie), Hoisington, KS; a brother-in-law, George Lillard 
(Jeanette) Houston, TX; her sisters-in-law, Deloise Paris, Greenville, 
TX, and Sylvia Mauldin, Ft. Worth, TX; and many beloved nieces and 
nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 
daughter, Virginia Lillard; her parent; a brother, Gerald Coker; and 
brothers-in-law, Gerald Lillard, and Pete Paris.Virginia “Jenni” Lillian Lillard, was born to David &amp; Rita (Coker) Lillard on October 16, 1981, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp;She grew up in 
Hoisington, KS, before her family moved to Houston, TX, where she 
graduated high school. She had a strong love of animals from a very 
young age, so after high school she attended Bel-Rea Institute of Animal
 Technology in Denver. She worked as a Veterinary Technician for many 
years, before deciding that she also wanted to “be the boss” so she 
decided to get her Bachelor of Administration from Strayer University 
where she graduated Suma Cum Laude! Jenni devoted her life’s work to 
helping animals wherever she went, and was known as “The Cat Whisperer.”
 She was a loving friend, daughter, sister and Aunt, and her nieces and 
nephew adored her. She had a strong Christian faith, which showed not 
only in her deep love of her family and animals, but also in how she 
cared for the owners of her patients. She was as soft hearted as she was

Vernon Lytle, 87, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 in Durango, Colorado. He was born on May 19, 1934 in Pratt County, Kansas, the son of George Vernon Lytle and Lola (Williams) Lytle. On March 7, 1952, he married Mary Jean (Calvert) Lytle in Anthony, KS. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2019.

Surviving are two sons, John (Debbie) Lytle and Lee Lytle, both of Durango, CO; one daughter, Jean Ellis of Ignacio, CO; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one granddaughter, Jenny Lytle, and seven sisters, Nettie, Ruby, Vera, Wanda, Thelma, Greta, and Betty.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104 with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS.

Karla K. (Phares) Eilert 65, died Monday, June 28, 2021 at her Benton residence. She was born October 6, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas to Eldon D. and Wilma J. (Arnold) Phares.  On July 27, 1985, she married Greg Eilert at the Palmyra Baptist Church in rural Benton, Kansas and he survives.

She was a graduate of Kansas State University and was a member of Newton Bible Church.  She worked as the office manager for the Palomino Petroleum Company.

Karla had a deep faith in the Lord that she shared freely. She kept a positive attitude as her illness progressed.  Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren whose visits brought her strength and happiness. She was  a loving, kind and caring wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed greatly.

She is survived by her husband Greg of the home; mother Wilma Phares; son Jaron (Amy) Eilert and their children Sophia, Colton Savannah and Hudson; daughter Kayla (Josh) Smith and their children Cardyn, Colesy, Winston and Miles; brother Dale (Kathy) Phares and sisters Linda (Wes) Penner and Sheryl (Drew) Hawks.
