Datha Lee Cope, 94, of Moundridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Paramount Community Living & Rehab in Newton, KS. Datha was a retired day care provider.
Datha was born on April 26, 1927, in Hobart, OK, the daughter of Fred Gurley and Bulah Lee (Matheny) Cook. She graduated from Hobart High School, Oklahoma. On August 30, 1945, Datha was united in marriage to J.C. Cope in Electra, TX. This union was blessed with two children, Mike and Pamela. J.C. preceded Datha in death on July 22, 2013.
Datha and J.C. enjoyed football and basketball, as long as K-State and KU played. They also spent many Sunday afternoons watching Nascar races.
Survivors include: daughter, Pamela Sue Hurd and husband, Kent, of Newton; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Cope of Hesston; grandchildren, Tracy Cope and wife, Liane, of Moundridge, Kelly Morey of Newton, Christopher Hurd of North Newton, and Jennifer Bradshaw and husband, Sean, of St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren, Elise Morey, Liberty Morey, Lindsy Phillips, and Codi Cusick; and four great-great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant twin daughters, Karen Kay and Sharon Sue Cope, and a son, Michael Cope.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 17, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Cate officiating.
