Lee Phillip (Phil) Kern, 72, passed away at his home in Hoisington, Kansas June 29, 2021. He was born July 9, 1948, in Great Bend, Kansas to Kenneth and Ellen (Carter) Kern. A Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University Alum, Phil was a keen businessman and entrepreneur, working in the oil industry and as a general contractor. He made his home in Salina, Kansas; Tucson, Arizona; Springdale, Arkansas; and Overland Park, Kansas until returning to the Great Bend area. He was of Catholic faith. Phil could almost always be found engineering a project, fine tuning it down to the smallest detail, leaving no stone unturned. He enjoyed traveling, watching golf, spoiling his black Lab Shady, and sharing good stories and cold beer. He is survived by his son, Clark Kern; daughters, Kimberly Kern and Katherine Shelton; ten grandchildren; sister, Mary (Kenny) Bath; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wade Patrick and Kenneth Michael Kern; and an infant granddaughter. Hazel Screna (Carlisle) Pontious, 80 of Lincolnville, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021 at her home.

Hazel was born October 17, 1940, to Straud Franklin and Alice Marie (Helms) Carlisle in Grainola, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended schools in Grainola and Foraker, OK, graduating from Shidler High School; Shidler, OK in 1958. On June 1, 1958, at the age of 17, after 5 years of dating Hazel married Jay Early Pontious. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2019. They made their first home in Foraker, OK and where they started their family. Throughout their married life, Jay &amp; Hazel lived in various cities including Shidler, Pawhuska, Webb City, OK; Cunningham, Marion and Lincolnville, KS. She was baptized in Foraker United Methodist Church and then later became a member of the Shidler Methodist, Cunningham Methodist and Marion Church of Christ Church. In 1972 Jay and Hazel bought their first house,and moved to the Lincolnville area. Together, they purchased and ran K&amp;J Well Service and then changed the name to J&amp;H Oil Company. Hazel owned and operated the Owl Car Cafe in Marion and later the Hitchin’ Post Western Wear Store in Marion and Lincolnville. Hazel also worked for several businesses in Marion area including; Western Associates (Hoppy), Sears, Marion Elevator and numerous cafes, plus bookkeeper for J&amp;H Oil and the Lost Springs Pump Shop. Hazel served as troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America in Cunningham and Marion. She enjoyed bowling, going to National Bowling Tournaments all over Canada and the United States. She had a passion for making Christmas candy, baking cinnamon rolls, canning, working on family genealogy and hosting family reunions. She loved collecting anything John Wayne, belt buckles and zippo cigarette lighters. Raymond Wesley Thiessen, 94, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler.  He was born on October 30, 1926, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Isaac and Anna (Neufeld) Thiessen.

He attended schools at Inman and Buhler. Raymond served in the United States Army during the Korean War as an infantryman and was honorably discharged.  After serving in the military, he moved back to the farm and helped farm with his dad for many years. Raymond later went on to work for Hesston Corporation.

Raymond met Edith Evelyn VanZandt and were married on August 11, 1971 and made Buhler their home. She passed away on February 1, 2007. They enjoyed 35 ½ years of married life. 

He liked old western movies and loved horses.  Raymond and Evelyn enjoyed spending time outdoors together camping and fishing.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Enid Cady, Linden Thiessen, Marsha Bouse, Jan Utech, Johnnie Peters, Marlin Peters, Gaylene Peters, Glen Peters, Diane Ediger, and Joetta Ediger; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn; two brothers, Jacob and Nick Thiessen; three sisters, Mary Thiessen, Sara Ediger, and Elizabeth Peters; and nephew Donald Ediger.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler.  Private burial will take place at Zoar Cemetery, Inman, Kansas. Christine (Chrissy) Ann Ward, 70, went home to be with her Lord on October 7, 2021.&nbsp;

Christine is the oldest of five children born to Clifford and Iva Mae Hummel on August 27, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri. &nbsp; When she was an infant, the family moved back to their hometown of Newton, Iowa, and she spent her formative years there. As a teenager, her first job was working for her father at “Cliff’s” restaurant in Newton.&nbsp; Christine began her most important job, mother to Matthew, on April 1st, 1972.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She worked in the mid 1980’s to earn her GED which led to her furthering her education at Tarrant County College in Ft. Worth, Tx.&nbsp; As a member of the National Honor Society, she completed her associates degree with highest honors in 1991. That year she was accepted to the University of Colorado, she then moved to Colorado Springs and began work as an undergraduate. &nbsp; It was there she was inducted into the Psi Chi honors society in 1995. One of her greatest achievements in life was graduating from UCCS, with honors, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1998.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While living in Colorado, Christine met Denis Ward.&nbsp; The two of them were married January 1, 1994.&nbsp; She and Denis built a life together and blended their families.&nbsp; They were married for 27 years and in that time they lived in: Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana.&nbsp; In 2017 they moved back to Kansas from Louisiana for their retirement. They have spent the past few years together in Newton, Ks.&nbsp;

Christine lived a full life.&nbsp; She was always singing in the kitchen, looking for ways to show her love to family through her cooking and baking.&nbsp; Caring for others was her life calling. She was always helping her friends and family and even strangers by showing them Christ’s love.&nbsp;

Christine is survived by her husband Denis Ward and her son Matthew George. To the marriage Denis brought daughters: Jayde, Jasmine, and Jenna. Her siblings are: Cathi (Hummel) Dunnam, Kimberly Hummel, Kevin Hummel, and Kari (Hummel) Burks. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, her great nieces, her grandchildren and great grandchild; many other family and friends.

Sandra "Sandy" Sue Mills, 60, of Hesston, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 at her home.&nbsp; She was born on August 22, 1961 in Newton, the daughter of Alvin R. Jr. and Catherine (Wherrell) Schmidt.

Sandy was a member of the Christ Tabernacle Church in Newton.

She was a CNA for Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Schowalter Villa in Hesston and Bethesda Home in Goessel, retiring in 2009.

Sandy was united in marriage to David C. Mills on June 21, 1997 in Newton.

Sandy loved to crochet in her spare time.&nbsp; She enjoyed baking and was known for making the best brownies.&nbsp; Above all, she loved spoiling her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her mother, Catherine Schmidt of Hesston; siblings, Daniel (Carol) Schmidt of Haysville, LaDena Self of Hesston, Sonia (Brad) Buchta of Halstead, and Jerry (MariShawn) Schmidt of Hillsboro; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Deborah Hill, 67, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 in Sedgwick, Kansas.  She was born in Wichita, Kansas to Glenn &amp; Dorothy (Wilson) Kennedy on April 21, 1954. She was a long time resident of Sedgwick, a graduate of Sedgwick High School and Fort Hays State University.

She worked at Cessna for many years as a chemist. Debbie enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading and playing with their miniature schnauzer Buddy. She loved dogs, dolphins and watching cheesy Scifi movies. She was also active for many years helping at the American Legion Post 268 in Sedgwick.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Vicki, and ex-husband Curtis.

Debbie is survived by her husband John Pittinger, siblings Glenda (Greg) Krehbiel, Annette (Bill) Cook and Patti (Robert) Unruh, and her son William (Sarah) Hill.

She was a retired Deputy City Clerk for the City of McPherson. Aileen was born on February 14, 1929, in Pacific Junction, IA, the daughter of Roland O. and Grace N. (Ewell) Davison. She graduated in 1946 from Thurman High School, Iowa. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Starlite Lanes 700 Club, and Kansas Bowling Hall of Fame. Thelma Marie Hubbell, passed away on October 7, 2021. She was born on her family farm in Colwich, Kansas. Parents Henry and Rosie (Doll) Nigg. She was a career military wife, moving all over the United States and Japan to support her husband’s career and raise her family. Connie Yvonne Samples, 89, of Hutchinson, died October 8, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born December 29, 1931, in Herington, to A.C. and Opal (Ashwill) Stitt.

Connie graduated from Herington High School in 1949 and attended Saint Francis School of Nursing in Wichita. She retired after 22 years as a CNA from Stafford Hospital. Connie also worked at Duckwall’s in Herington, cleaned homes, and did laundry as a way to earn extra money. She loved to sew and made all of her daughter’s dresses and her husband’s sport coats and ties. Connie was a member of Miriam Chapter #14 Order of Eastern Star, in Emporia, for 68 years and Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On June 3, 1951, she married Eugene Samples, in Herington. They shared 69 years of marriage before his death on June 14, 2020.

Connie is survived by: son, James Samples (Paula) of Wichita; daughter, Jo Dee Samples of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Samples of St. John; grandchildren, Martha Samples of Carlisle, PA, Nathan Samples (Beth) of Stafford, Jess Samples of St. John, Teresa Eply (fiancé, Michael Sayers) of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Samantha Fermin, Andrew Maham, Chase Otto; and nephews, Raoul Stitt (Rita) of Kansas City, MO, Hank Stitt of Kansas City, MO, and Michael Stitt (Suzy) of Charlotte, NC.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, David Samples; great-granddaughter, Raven Samples; brother, Charles Stitt; and nephew, Mark Stitt.

Don married Ruth Margaret (Hoeme) McFarland on August 29, 1987 in Pratt . They were married for 23 years before they divorced. Don graduated from Pratt High School in 1985. He then went on to earn his Associate Degree in Mechanics from Arizona Automotive Institute. He worked for Alliance Ag and Grain in Haviland. He was a member of Cannonball Golf Course in Greensburg. He enjoyed golfing, being a mechanic, exercising, running, biking, gardening, watching the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Nathan McFarland, Tanner (Victoria) McFarland and Adrein McFarland all of Pratt; sisters, Tina (Stanley) Norris and Dana Tripp both of Pratt; brother, Eddie McFarland of St. John; grandchildren, Emmarie Maxine McFarland, Reese McFarland and Rhett McFarland; and his children's mother, Ruth (Hoeme) McFarland of Pratt. Sam was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Kingman; and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Softly and tenderly is how Shirley Bowen left this world and was greeted into Heaven. Shirley Corrine Bowen was born March 3, 1935, in Topeka, to Fred and Vernice (Rich) Wilson. She passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021.

Shirley will be remembered for her caring heart and kind spirit. She grew up in Topeka with her two older sisters, Margaret and Joan, graduating from Holiday Junior High and Topeka High School. Shirley ventured out of state for her freshmen year of college to Bob Jones University in South Carolina, but headed home to attend Washburn University for her sophomore year. And it’s a good thing she did! This is where she met the love of her life, Ralph Bowen.

After Ralph graduated from Washburn, he and Shirley got married and moved to Hutchinson, where they raised four children, and spent the next 64 years as very active members of the community. Ralph and Shirley were charter members of the Doers Sunday School Class at Trinity United Methodist Church and helped start the Pancake Supper fundraiser, which was well attended by community members for years.

Shirley was also active in helping with Vacation Bible School, Stephen Ministries, and Missions and Bible Studies, to name a few.&nbsp; Shirley’s faith was very important to her and she instilled her values and faith in her children.&nbsp; Shirley was a charter member of Chapter HQ, P.E.O. and enjoyed the friendships she made there over the years.&nbsp;

Friendships were very important to Shirley and Ralph. Shirley kept in touch with a group of friends from Holiday Junior High and she and Ralph enjoyed trips with the group from coast to coast. Friday nights were spent at the Anchor Inn with friends unless they were supporting grandchildren in school activities or traveling.

Shirley and Ralph loved attending cultural and sporting events in the community. They never missed going to the Kansas State Fair and were life-long season ticket holders for HCC football and basketball games. They also enjoyed attending K-State football games and tailgating with family.

Family traditions were important to Shirley, always celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and creating great memories!&nbsp; She and Ralph also shared many happy times traveling with their friends and family.

Shirley is survived by: daughter, Andrea Siefkes (Tim) of Hutchinson, daughter, Pam Kennedy (Kelly) of Haysvillle, son, Kevin Bowen (Jodee) of Hutchinson, daughter, Tamara Harbour (Phil) of Shawnee; grandchildren, Courtney Siefkes of Austin, TX, Amy Messer (Travis) of Gardner, Matthew Peil (Loni) of Hutchinson, Lauren Rickner (James) of Ottawa, Aubrey Kennedy of Haysville, Elli Bowen of Kansas City, Trace Bowen of Kansas City, Abby Harbour of Shawnee, Reed Harbour of Shawnee; Cale Harbour of Shawnee, Tayt Harbour, all of Shawnee; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret “Peg” Bowen; and many nieces and nephews, with whom she remained close and loved seeing at family gatherings over the years.

Elsie Beth Macklin, 83, died October 5, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born July 5, 1938, in Hillsboro, to Rudolf Henry and Lillian B. (Janke) Nickel.&nbsp;

Elsie graduated from high school in California, and received her associate’s degree from Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; After 24 years of service, she retired from the Hutchinson Police Department as their main desk clerk. Elsie enjoyed collecting antiques and was a gifted photographer, taking pictures all over the state of Kansas, from wheat to tractors to sunsets.&nbsp; She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

Elsie is survived by:&nbsp; daughter, Gina Meinen (Duane) of Maricopa, AZ; grandchildren, Timothy Miller of Apache Junction, AZ, Karla Meinen of Phoenix, AZ, SSG Tye Meinen of Fort Riley, Mathew Kelman (Jenna) of Hutchinson, and Molly Wilhaus (Clinton) of Nickerson; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; and a daughter, Karen Kelman.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with The Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.&nbsp; Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel.

Michael Edward Brennan, age 56, passed away on Wednesday, Oct 6, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, KS. He was born in New Orleans, LA., the son of Edward Francis Jr. and Billye (Harris) Brennan. As a kid, Michael loved BMX, football, track, making model airplanes and cars, and crabbing and fishing with his father. Michael graduated from Clark High School, Las Vegas, NV in 1983. He had an interest for aviation and airplanes. He worked for Hughes Aviation and then moved onto working for KB Homes in Las Vegas.

Michael became a resident of Kansas in 2008 to be closer to his mother, sisters and niece. He loved spending time with friends and family, and also giving on Christmas to his niece. He also enjoyed classic rock, playing guitar, history, watching the National Geographic channel, cooking, antiquing, collecting hot wheels among other things. He was very generous and funny and will be missed by many. &nbsp;Michael is survived by his sisters, Mary Brennan, Las Vegas, NV, Cynthia (John) Castro, New York City, NY; and his niece Summer Brennan, Kansas City. Donna Hertlein Wygle, 79, passed from this life on October 6, 2021, at Ardmore, OK. She was born December 5, 1941, in Pratt, as the daughter of George and Myrland Hertlein. Along with her sister, Barbara, she grew up on the family’s wheat farm south of Pratt. She graduated from Pratt High School in 1959. After attending numerous secondary schools, she began working as an LPN. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital of Medical Technology in 1969. She then managed the hospital laboratories in Las Animas, CO, and in Tribune. When their parents reached their elderly years, the sisters alternated their care. After their death, Donna moved back to the farm and has now passed her portion down to the fifth generation. Donna was an avid reader and historian spending many hours searching genealogical records for her family’s history. Other major interests included both science and world history. She was a lover of animals and had 3 cats which she loved dearly. In 2016, Donna purchased an older farm homestead with a vision, along with her friend/associate, of turning it into a hobby ranch which would include various animals, a small lake and a multitude of farm antiques. Donna had a love for the outdoors, enjoying gardening and special projects to enhance the farm. She was a faithful and active member of the Pratt Garden Club. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Butler and husband Harold of Ardmore, OK; nieces, Amy Walker of Ardmore and Kristen Scoggin and husband Steve of Dallas, TX; Great-Nieces and Nephews, Blake Woerz. Lauren Woerz, Brooke Scoggin and Jack Scoggin along with numerous cousins and special friend, Kelly Nienke. Donna’s cousin, Ray Dorsett, will be officiating a memorial service at Donna’s farm home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Lila Patrice Shoemaker, 62, died October 6, 2021. She was the second born child to Eldon Charles and Dorothy Mae (Damron) Terveen, July 13, 1959, in Weslaco, TX.

She was a Pierce City High School graduate and owner of Home Town Video and Appliance Store, Stafford. Lila enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for many years, raising dachshunds, crafting, working puzzles, cooking, traveling, playing scrabble, and being a Dallas Cowboys fan. She was also a skilled seamstress who made most of her children’s clothes growing up, a skill she learned from her mother and grandmother, Inez. Lilacs were her favorite flower.

Lila was married to Robert Dean Wright. They divorced. Then on May&nbsp;29, 2004, she married William "Bill" Howard Shoemaker. He died&nbsp;February 10, 2017.

Mother of two surviving children; Rebecca Lynn&nbsp;Wright and Gabriel Alan Wright, both of Hutchinson; mother,&nbsp;Dorothy&nbsp;Marrs; brothers, Lloyd, Lewis, and Lester&nbsp;Terveen; stepchildren, Holly&nbsp;Shoemaker and Nate&nbsp;Shoemaker; and grandson,&nbsp;Akyn&nbsp;Dallas&nbsp;Wright.&nbsp;

Daughter of Andrew B. Jantz and Martha Marie (Buller) Jantz. Lyla was born October 24, 1920 in Goltry.

She was married on November 7, 1937 to Fred Elton Killfoil in Lankin, Kansas. Lyla and Fred had 7 children, 19 grandchildred, 39 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Lyla grew up in western Kansas where she loved school. She was always a teacher’s helper, especially when it came time to help with Plays or other activities.

Lyla was creative and an artist. She would make many of the background scenes for the plays at school. Lyla liked ceramics and drawing, later in her Golden Years she loved to color things. She taught herself to play any musical instrument she could put her hands on. Lyla played piano, organ, accordion, guitar, banjo, mandolin, steel-guitar and xylophone. She also taught others to play music. All of her children are artists and/or musical singers.

Lyla was an excellent cook. She was in charge of the family kitchen at age 10 because her father and mother had to work in their farm fields all day long. Lyla also had to take care of the house and her 2 younger sisters. At age 15 she worked on a ranch cooking and baking for a large group of workers to help support her family. Lyla was a self-taught seamstress and made her children nice homemade clothes. She lived in Newton, Kansas for 75 years. Lyla played the Church piano at Church of God of the Firstborn on S. Kansas for 73 years. She lived the last 4 years of her life at Asbury Park, now Paramount Community Rehab Center where she passed on to Heaven the 6th&nbsp;of October, 2021, 17 days short of reaching 101 years old. Lyla is preceded in death by her mother, father, two sisters, daughter, son, 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 2 great-granddaughters.

Children are: Jerry Killfoil of Newton, Shirley O Neil of Newton. Jane and Thomas Carrell of Newton. Carolyn and Stanley Smith of Crestview, Florida. James and Judy Killfoil of Grand Forks, North Dakota.

He attended the McPherson schools. On July 15, 1962, Don was united in marriage to Judy A. Burns in McPherson. They were married for 55 years before Judy’s passing on May 11, 2018. He was the President of V.FW. Unit #2715 and Past President of the V.F.W. Men’s Auxiliary. He was also Past Master of McPherson Lodge #172 AF &amp; AM and was a member of Isis Shrine. &nbsp;Alberta Mae Wright, age 80, of Camarillo, CA, passed away August 28, 2021 at home, after a long battle with COPD. She was born October 27, 1940 in Council Grove, the daughter of Theodore James Turner and Madalyn Belle Reeder Turner. Alberta married Gerald W. Moyer (Shorty) on December 15, 1957, this union added two children Rhonda S. Moyer-Noda and Forrest W. Moyer. Later Alberta married Donald Wright in Wichita. Alberta’s life was filled with challenges and surprises! She quit school when she was 14 years old. At the age of 26 she petitioned the Galva School Board to return to High School to attain her high school diploma, which she did in 1968. After completing this goal she went to work at the McPherson County Extension Office where she worked for many years. She also worked for CertainTeed Corporation, Alliance Life, Kansas State Social Welfare system, and Wichita State University from which she retired. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Noda (husband Victor) and her son Forrest Moyer (wife Nancy), five grandchildren, Isabelle Scott (husband Bret), Ivanna Moyer (fiancé Joshua Morton), Israel Moyer, Ilanna Moyer (fiancé Joshua Morton), and Isiah Moyer, and one great-grandson Ronin Scott. Two sisters, Velma Duncun and Viola Hollar (husband Raymond); a sister-in-law, Maybelle Turner; and many nieces and nephews and close friends. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers Theodor Turner, Jr., Delbert Turner, Roland Turner, Harry Turner, and Kenneth Turner and for sisters Doris Turner Hight, Mary Bernice Turner, Madelyn Maxine Turner Wells, and Melba Turner Gray. Moyer (Shorty) on December 15, 1957, this union added two children Rhonda S. Moyer-Noda and Forrest W. Moyer. Later Alberta married Donald Wright in Wichita. Alberta’s life was filled with challenges and surprises! She quit school when she was 14 years old. At the age of 26 she petitioned the Galva School Board to return to High School to attain her high school diploma, which she did in 1968. After completing this goal she went to work at the McPherson County Extension Office where she worked for many years. She also worked for CertainTeed Corporation, Alliance Life, Kansas State Social Welfare system, and Wichita State University from which she retired. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Noda (husband Victor) and her son Forrest Moyer (wife Nancy), five grandchildren, Isabelle Scott (husband Bret), Ivanna Moyer (fiancé Joshua Morton), Israel Moyer, Ilanna Moyer (fiancé Joshua Morton), and Isiah Moyer, and one great-grandson Ronin Scott. Two sisters, Velma Duncun and Viola Hollar (husband Raymond); a sister-in-law, Maybelle Turner; and many nieces and nephews and close friends. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers Theodor Turner, Jr., Delbert Turner, Roland Turner, Harry Turner, and Kenneth Turner and for sisters Doris Turner Hight, Mary Bernice Turner, Madelyn Maxine Turner Wells, and Melba Turner Gray. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating. Burial will be at the Dunlap Cemetery, rural Rose Hill, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Skylar BranDonn Fieser, 32, died Oct. 6, 2021.

He was born July 5, 1989, in Wichita the son of Kent and Nancy Holder Fieser.&nbsp; A resident of Norwich most of his life, he was a professional painter.

Skylar was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his parents Kent Fieser and Nancy Hubble; and his grandmother Patsy Holder.

He was preceded in death by his sister Kacy Fieser; and grandparents Fritz Holder and Roy and Betty Fieser.

Bennie “Ben” Gehring, 68, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.

Ben was born November 21, 1952, in Moundridge, KS, the son of Raymond and Leona (Graber) Gehring.  He graduated from Moundridge High School in 1970.  He also attended NCK Technical College in Beloit and was a Boiler Operator.  On July 26, 1975, he married Vicki Simmons in Moundridge.  Ben was a member of First Mennonite Church in Moundridge.

Ben and Vicki’s home and hearts were open for all their children and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Cook; sister, Beverly Reeves and multiple brother and sister -in - laws.

Ben is survived by his wife, Vicki; dozens of sons and daughter’s; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; multiple brother and sister –in-laws; nephew, Tom and nieces, Misty and Stephanie and many other nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 1 – 7 p.m. with family greeting guests from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 15, 2021, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Bowen officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Alfred Vaughn “Ike” Isaac, 92, of Hutchinson, died October 6, 2021, at Hospice House. He was born April 23, 1929, in Manchester, Kansas, to James and Susan (McVaugh) Isaac.

On January 20, 1957, he married Charlotte Lavern Brigman, in Michigan. They shared 64 years together.

Ike graduated from Chapman High School in 1947. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Navy during the time of the Korean conflict. Ike then worked as a truck driver, owning several of his own trucks. He loved woodworking and built all the cabinets for their kitchen in Liberal.

Alfred never met a stranger.  As soon as you met him you felt as if he was a friend.  He knew how to do anything and he always had just the right tool for whatever you needed.  He would always offer what he had to you by saying “I have just the thing for that!”.   Neighbors and friends always said they knew they could count on him for anything help they might need.

Ike is survived by: wife, Charlotte Isaac, Hutchinson; daughter, Lynda Cole, Edgerton; son, William Isaac, Olathe; son, Thomas Isaac, Wichita; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Debra Lynn Isaac; and brother, William Isaac.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
