Linus John Gaider, 87, died Sept. 18, 2021 at Southwind Home, Pratt.

He was born Oct. 9, 1933, at Willowdale the son of George C. and Ann Rose Weber Gaider.  A longtime resident of Pratt, he was a retired ditcher for White Pipeline as well as a retired farmer and carpenter.

Linus was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt; and the International Union of Operating Engineers AFL-CIO.

On Feb. 14, 1982, he married Jeanette Marie Miller Weber at St. Leo.  Other survivors include daughter Janice Cross and her husband Steve; sisters Mary Ann Ziegler and Rose Lester; grandchildren Dianna Allaman and her husband Scott, and Brent Cross; and great-grandchildren Jullian Marie Allaman and Barrett Bradley Allaman.

Family services were held Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with burial to be the St. Peter Church Cemetery, Willowdale.

Deloris Marie “Dody” Avery, 82, of Hutchinson, died September 22, 2021, at her home. She was born February 16, 1939, in Beulah, the daughter of George W. and Mabel V. (Hughes) Crank.

Deloris graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1955. She was a homemaker who deeply loved her family. Deloris also loved painting and decorating her home. She enjoyed playing gospel music on the piano.  Above all, was her love for Jesus. Deloris was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

On October 28, 1955, she married William L. “Bill” Avery in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 66 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are: children, Marla Jo Long (Randy), Randall Lee Avery (Jana Sale), all of Hutchinson, Jennifer Jo Kimpler (Gary) of Carthage, NC, Amy Chastain (Craig) of Boston, MA; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian Leach of Greeley, CO; and numerous extended family members.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lorene Burns, Ruby Demoret, Wilma Dietz, Thelma Frakes, Earl Crank, Ruth Crank, Everett Crank, Melvin Crank, and Howard Crank.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Thelda (Jane) Miles Adams, age 96, departed this earthly life in Mt. Hope, KS to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. 

Jane was born October 9, 1924 in Great Bend, KS, to Lowell and Dora Willcut.  Upon the death of Dora in 1926, Lowell married Elizabeth Willcut, Jane’s Stepmother.

Jane grew up in the country outside of Great Bend, KS.  She attended Prairie Home Elementary and Great Bend High School.  After High School, Jane attended Wichita Business College and met her husband Dewey L. Miles and was married November 13, 1943. Dewey and Jane made their home in Mt. Hope, KS for almost 56 years.  To their union, three children were born: Janice 9/5/45, Kent 9/24/50 and Michelle 12/04/58.  After Dewey’s death in 1999, Jane married a high school classmate, Harold D. Adams August 26, 2000 and they continued to live in Mt. Hope, KS for 13 years.

For most of Jane’s life, she was a homemaker with the exception of 16 years (1971-1987) where she was the Mt. Hope Grade School Secretary.  These were some of her favorite years where she developed life long relationships with parents, teachers and students. 

Jane was an active member of Mt. Hope Federated Church (Now Mt. Hope Bible Fellowship), Women’s Bible Study, Eastern Star, Friendly Notes, American Legion Auxiliary, EHU, Garden Club and Bridge Club. Jane enjoyed knitting, cooking, painting, ceramics and collecting angels, bells and butterflies.  Jane loved to volunteer to help others in need, loved life, family and traveling.

Jane was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Next to God, her family and friends were her greatest treasures and she loved them all with a deep caring affection. Jane has been a blessing to so many through the years and her love will be sorely missed.

Ruth Anne Miller, 81, of Hutchinson, died September 21, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born May 18, 1940, in Hutchinson, to Henry and Esther (Marble) Gross.

Ruth graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958. She worked in assembly at Eaton for almost 40 years. Ruth enjoyed crossword puzzles and doing crafts with canvases and yarn. She loved animals, especially her cats. Ruth loved to watch westerns and Christmas movies year-round.

She is survived by: daughter, Penny Williams; sons, Ronald Miller (Lori) and Ric Miller; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Harold Gross (Juanita), James “Jim” Gross, and David Gross (Betty).

Milo’s life began on January 13, 1923, the son of Daniel and Matilda (Goering) Kaufman in Moundridge, Kansas. He graduated from Moundridge High, class of 1940 and attended Kansas State University. He served his country in the US Army during the end of WWII. He married Betty Joan Notz on November 17, 1951 at the Burns United Methodist Church.

Milo started out farming and then went to work for Vickers Refinery in 1953 for 11 years. In 1964 he went to work at Boeing as a machinist until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Potwin Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, bike riding, traveling. He and Betty loved being snowbirds in Apache Junction, Arizona.

His loving family includes his wife Betty of Newton of almost 70 years; children, Richard Kaufman (Sheryl) of Wichita, Elizabeth McBain (Keith) of Canton, Michigan, Mike Kaufman (Karen) of Lenexa, Kansas; brother, Jarold Kaufman (Joan) of The Villages, Florida; sister, Reitha Klaassen of Newton; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Kaufman of Clark, South Dakota and Beverly Kaufman of Frankfort, South Dakota; grandchildren, Brian Kaufman, Brenda Dehn (Tyler), Julia Kaufman, Jacob Kaufman and Marilyn McBain; great-grandchildren, Adeline and Eloise Dehn.

Evelyn "Pat" Houston, 94, retired medical records technician, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. She was also a preschool teacher, newspaper proofreader and church secretary in several churches. In addition, she sang with the Gospelaires Quartet for 23 years and traveled throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado. She loved her Lord, her family, all children, music, reading and flowers.

She was born in 1926 in Peck, Kan., to Floyd and Cherokee (Kincaid) Patrick. She graduated from Clearwater High School and attended Vennard College in Chicago. She married L. Fred Houston Aug. 22, 1948, in Peck. He became a United Methodist pastor and, over a 53-year period, they served the following churches in Kansas: Rose Hill, Goddard, Peck, Delphos-Lamar, Talmage-Willowdale-Manchester, Burden, Minneapolis-Ada, Ellsworth-Wilson, Abilene Emmanuel-Industry, Towanda-Benton and as associate pastor at Winfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons, Patrick Houston and Brian Houston; her brothers, Glenn Patrick and Raudon Patrick; and her sister, Betty Lindley.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Cindy) Houston of Valley Center, Kan.; daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Dohermann of Lemoore, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Christel Houston of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Amy Houston, Aaron Gaston, Andy (Nicole) Gaston, Alex Gaston, Jessica Houston, Tyler Houston, Melodie (Brandon) Clayton, Andrea (Zechariah) Vislocky, William Dohermann, R.J. Evelyn "Pat" Houston |1926-2021|

Ruth Louise Van Arsdale, 94, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away September 20, 2021, at her duplex apartment on the Prairie Homestead Senior Living campus. 

She was born on February 4, 1927, to Oscar and Minnie (Nelson) Ekstrom, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. They later moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin, where she graduated from high school in 1945, afterward attending Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years. She transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating with honors in 1949 with a degree in English and Speech Education. In August of 1949, Ruth was married to Herman W. Van Arsdale, then a student at Bethel Seminary. They served churches in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and in Raymond, Eureka, Fort Scott, Salina, and Great Bend, Kansas. She earned a Master of Education in teaching from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ruth was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa at the university and was also active in NEA, KNEA, Delta Kappa Gamma, NCTE and KATE. She was active in churches they served, most often as a pianist, and as a teacher for children, youth, and adults. She strongly promoted Bible reading, urging people to read with understanding. To facilitate this, she wrote articles introducing the Bible Book of the Month for both the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region (ABCCR) and her local church. Her most difficult writing was an article “The Long Winter” published in New Covenant magazine. It recounted her recovery from the sudden death of their seventeen-year-old daughter, Deborah. As a teacher she led workshops on teaching English for KATE and NCTE conferences and published articles as well. For twenty years she wrote high school level literary analysis study guides, focusing on a single literary work each year, for the Center for Learning in Rocky River, Ohio and published by Wm. C. Brown Co. of Dubuque, Iowa. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church, Wichita, where she taught Sunday School classes and participated in many of the activities of the Chinese fellowship. She lived at Prairie Homestead, where she led a Bible Study group and played piano for many occasions. For fifty-three years she was the wife of a minister, who served several congregations and held many offices in the ABCCR. She taught English in the high schools of all but one of the places where they lived and served as treasurer and then the president of the Kansas Association of Teachers of English as well as on the board of the National Council of Teachers of English. In her local ABW she was the secretary and in the past has served as an association Personal Development Coordinator and also as the President. She has been the Recording Secretary for the American Baptist Women’s Ministry of the Central Region. Her greatest longing was to live close to the Lord, learn to pray, and lead others to find the joy and peace in a close relationship to the Lord. She is survived by her son, Paul Van Arsdale, and his wife, Lalita “Beni” Van Arsdale of Long Beach, California, and two sisters, Kathryn of Rock Island, Illinois and Edith of Leawood, Kansas. Ruth Louise Van Arsdale, 94, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away September 20, 2021, at her duplex apartment on the Prairie Homestead Senior Living campus. She was born on February 4, 1927, to Oscar and Minnie (Nelson) Ekstrom, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. They later moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin, where she graduated from high school in 1945, afterward attending Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years. She transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating with honors in 1949 with a degree in English and Speech Education. In August of 1949, Ruth was married to Herman W. Van Arsdale, then a student at Bethel Seminary. They served churches in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and in Raymond, Eureka, Fort Scott, Salina, and Great Bend, Kansas. She earned a Master of Education in teaching from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ruth was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa at the university and was also active in NEA, KNEA, Delta Kappa Gamma, NCTE and KATE. She was active in churches they served, most often as a pianist, and as a teacher for children, youth, and adults. She strongly promoted Bible reading, urging people to read with understanding. To facilitate this, she wrote articles introducing the Bible Book of the Month for both the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region (ABCCR) and her local church. Her most difficult writing was an article “The Long Winter” published in New Covenant magazine. It recounted her recovery from the sudden death of their seventeen-year-old daughter, Deborah. As a teacher she led workshops on teaching English for KATE and NCTE conferences and published articles as well. For twenty years she wrote high school level literary analysis study guides, focusing on a single literary work each year, for the Center for Learning in Rocky River, Ohio and published by Wm. C. Brown Co. of Dubuque, Iowa. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church, Wichita, where she taught Sunday School classes and participated in many of the activities of the Chinese fellowship. She lived at Prairie Homestead, where she led a Bible Study group and played piano for many occasions. For fifty-three years she was the wife of a minister, who served several congregations and held many offices in the ABCCR. She taught English in the high schools of all but one of the places where they lived and served as treasurer and then the president of the Kansas Association of Teachers of English as well as on the board of the National Council of Teachers of English. In her local ABW she was the secretary and in the past has served as an association Personal Development Coordinator and also as the President. She has been the Recording Secretary for the American Baptist Women’s Ministry of the Central Region. Her greatest longing was to live close to the Lord, learn to pray, and lead others to find the joy and peace in a close relationship to the Lord. She is survived by her son, Paul Van Arsdale, and his wife, Lalita “Beni” Van Arsdale of Long Beach, California, and two sisters, Kathryn of Rock Island, Illinois and Edith of Leawood, Kansas. Arlene Jean Barrett, 93 of Lost Springs, formerly of Herington, danced through heaven’s gates on September 19, 2021, at Herington Municipal Hospital.

Arlene was born on June 3, 1928, in Latimer,&nbsp; to William Frank Ohm and Martha Emma Johanna Pegorsch. She attended school at the Lutheran Parochial School, then the school in Latimer. Prior to marriage she cleaned houses, apartments and worked at the Herington Air Base. After marriage she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for her and Lloyd’s business Barrett Plumbing. On July 24, 1948, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Barrett at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington. They spent 49 wonderful years together before his passing in 1997. To this marriage was born a daughter, Marsha, with whom Arlene lived with in Lost Springs the last 13 months of her life.

Arlene, lovingly known to family as “Madam Queen”, was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She loved to garden, play checkers, dominoes, and cards, she also loved to embroider, dance and sing silly songs. Arlene’s favorite meal was fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, but her signature meal was chicken noodle soup, deviled eggs, and peanut butter cookies. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Marsha Pagenkopf (Mark), of Lost Springs; grandchildren; Holly Stenfors of Ormond Beach, FL, Kelly (Leanne) Wonser of Goessel,&nbsp; Mark (Julie) Pagenkopf II of Lincolnville; Great-grandchildren; Amanda (Michael) Patterson of Herington,&nbsp; Hannah (Matthew) Calisi of Daytona Beach, FL, Logan, Adam, Dawson Wonser of Goessel, Marlie Pagenkopf and Weston Pagenkopf of Lincolnville; and great great-grandchildren; Sadie Patterson of Herington, Sage and Hazel Calisi of Daytona Beach, FL. Dwight L. Goering went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the age of 79 years old.&nbsp; He was born August 26, 1942, the second son of Jacob and Anna A. (Schrag) Goering of rural Galva.

It was at a very early age that Dwight realized his sin, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour.&nbsp; His entire life was spent serving his Lord in whatever capacity he was able.&nbsp;

Dwight was united in marriage to Rebecca R. Gookin on November 15, 1975 in Dallas, Oregon.

He was a life-long farmer as well as a co-founder of the Elyria Christian School.&nbsp; He pastored at Emmanuel Bible Church of rural Galva for 36 years, and aided in ministries such as Back to the Bible Broadcast, and the Family Altar Broadcast. &nbsp;

Dwight’s greatest desire in life was to tell others of the joy of knowing and loving Jesus Christ.&nbsp; Even in his long fight with dementia, he endeavored to make sure those around him knew that they too could have eternal life through the shed blood of Jesus.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Becky Goering, of rural Galva; his daughters, Bonnie (Christopher) Matthews of Southeast Asia, Priscilla (David) Ramirez of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Annette (Stephen) Edwards of Galva, and Katie (Joshua) Shepherd of Idabel, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Annora) Goering of Marion and James (Gloria) Goering of Waterloo, Iowa; and sister, Sylvia (Phil) Schroeder of Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Anna Goering.

Jesse P. Newton, 91, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.

Jesse was born May 17, 1930, in Hale, MO, the son of Jesse B.  and Hattie L. (Culberson) Newton.&nbsp;  He graduated from Tina High School, Tina, MO in 1948.   Jesse enlisted in the United States Army on March 26, 1952 and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1954.  On May 7, 1954, he married Mary Helen Gibson in Hutchinson. Jesse worked for Consolidated Rebuilders and retired after 41 years.   He was a lifetime resident of Hutchinson and was a member of First Church of God.  Jesse loved to garden, raising flowers and vegetables.  He enjoyed sharing the vegetables with friends and family.  His greatest treasures were his grandchildren and loved them to pieces.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John W. Newton; one sister, Glendena Lance and son-in-law, Steve Boese.

Jesse is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Chris (Delora) Newton and Jay (Laura) Newton; three daughters, Beth Boese, Leta (Gary) Green and Mary (Barry) Homfeld; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at First Church of God, 704 N. Jefferson., Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Kraft officiating. Donald Ray “Don” Farmer, 53, of Russell, Kansas and formerly of 
Colorado, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the Pratt 
Regional Medical Center in Pratt, Kansas.

Don was born July 11, 1968, in Cincinnati, Ohio.&nbsp; He was the son of 
Ron, Sr., and Dianne (Vaughn) Farmer.&nbsp; He grew up in Ohio and graduated 
from Mt. Healthy High School in Mt. Healthy, Ohio.

Don served his country in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; He was injured during active duty and was honorably discharged as a Disabled Veteran.

Don was united in marriage to Deon Cochran on May 15, 2005, in 
Divide, Colorado.&nbsp; They made their home in Florissant, Colorado for 
several years then later moved to Victor, Colorado.&nbsp; Most recently they 
lived in Aurora, Colorado before moving to Russell, Kansas in 2020.

Don mainly worked in the Security business.&nbsp; He worked as a Security 
Officer and Casino Manager in the Casinos of Cripple Creek, Colorado. 
Prior to leaving Colorado, Don worked as an armed guard at the Arapahoe 
County Court House.&nbsp; He attended the Olive Branch Church of Russell.&nbsp; 
Don was an outdoors man who enjoyed guns, target shooting, fishing, 
camping, and hiking.&nbsp; His greatest joy was his family.&nbsp; He was a very 
loving and protective husband, father and grandfather.

Don’s surviving family include his wife of 16 years, Deon of Russell,
 Kansas; five children, Evan McCue (Kristine) of Randolph, Vermont, Sean
 McCue (Rachel) of Eldersburg, Maryland, Donnie Farmer, Jr. of Russell, 
Kansas, Sarah Farmer of Hutchinson, Kansas and Justin Farmer of Canon 
City, Colorado; his mother, Dianne Farmer of Sunman, Indiana; brothers, 
Ron Farmer, Jr. of Divide, Colorado and Herb Farmer of Sunman, Indiana; 
and six grandchildren that called grandpa “Bagu”, Leah, Natalie, Ronin, 
Aurora, Joey and Brogen.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father.

Donald Ray 'Don' Farmer |1968-2021|

Ethel R. (Dalke) Bartel passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 96 in Valley Center, Kansas.

She was born in Hillsboro, Kansas to Charles Dalke and Verna (Nichol) Dalke. Ethel grew up in rural Lehigh, Kansas on the family farm. Later the family moved to town and her Dad managed the local coop. Ethel attended Lehigh schools and graduated from Lehigh High School. She attended McPherson College and received a Bachelor of Science in Business. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for the Lehigh Coop.

She married (Richard) Dick Bartel on August 8, 1949. where they farmed in Lehigh for 3 years. Later the couple moved to Newton and she attended Bethel College to receive her teacher certification.

She and Dick bought the hardware store in Valley Center, Kansas. In addition to bookkeeping at the hardware store, Ethel began her teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher at Abilene Elementary school and continued her career there for the next 24 years until her retirement.

Ethel loved spending time at their Lake House in Shell Knob, Missouri where many happy family memories were made. She enjoyed quilting and made beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren and loved visiting the quilt shops in Branson as well as going to various shows there. She also enjoyed collecting ceramic chickens and had many.  She and Dick liked to travel and took several Chartered bus tours.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Verna Dalke, brother, Carl Dalke. She also had an older sister Evelyn Dalke who died at a young age during the Spanish Flu epidemic and a son, Richard Keith Bartel, who died as a child in 1961.

Ethel R. (Dalke) Bartel passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 96 in Valley Center, Kansas.She was born in Hillsboro, Kansas to Charles Dalke and Verna (Nichol) Dalke. Ethel grew up in rural Lehigh, Kansas on the family farm. Later the family moved to town and her Dad managed the local coop. Ethel attended Lehigh schools and graduated from Lehigh High School. She attended McPherson College and received a Bachelor of Science in Business. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for the Lehigh Coop.She married (Richard) Dick Bartel on August 8, 1949. where they farmed in Lehigh for 3 years. Later the couple moved to Newton and she attended Bethel College to receive her teacher certification.She and Dick bought the hardware store in Valley Center, Kansas. In addition to bookkeeping at the hardware store, Ethel began her teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher at Abilene Elementary school and continued her career there for the next 24 years until her retirement.Ethel loved spending time at their Lake House in Shell Knob, Missouri where many happy family memories were made. She enjoyed quilting and made beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren and loved visiting the quilt shops in Branson as well as going to various shows there. She also enjoyed collecting ceramic chickens and had many. She and Dick liked to travel and took several Chartered bus tours.Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Verna Dalke, brother, Carl Dalke. Jane Carol Randall, 90, finally got her wish to be in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at The Oxford Grand Memory Care in Wichita, Kansas.

Jane Randall was born November 28, 1930 in Independence, Kansas.  She was the youngest of three children born to Glen Hobart Hackmaster Sr. and Isabel Frances Bechtel Hackmaster.  She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Independence Kansas where she was well-known as the daughter of the prominent and beloved city manager.  She graduated from Independence Junior College in 1950.  During those years she became an accomplished singer and participated in various choirs, singing groups and musicals.  She followed her mother's side of the family to the University of Kansas where she graduated in 1952 in the first class to graduate with a Bachelors of Elementary Education Degree. She was a  member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and a huge KU Jayhawk fan the rest of her life.

Jane met her husband of 66 years, Richard Dean Randall while attending KU.  She taught kindergarten for 2 years in Topeka, Kansas before they were married August 1, 1954 in her hometown of Independence, Kansas.  Dick and Jane made their home in Wichita, Kansas where Jane taught kindergarten for 5 years in the Wichita Public School System before retiring and having 2 daughters who were then the joy and focus of her life.  Dick and Jane built the house of their dreams in the Park East Addition in east Wichita in 1958.  They lived there for 61 years where they made lifelong friendships and many happy memories.  They moved together to Park West Plaza Retirement Community in 2019 and then Jane moved to the Oxford Grand after Dick passed away in 2020..

Jane was a devoted wife, mother and friend who was generous and always helping others.  However her life changed on November 4, 1965 when she accepted Christ as her personal Savior while reading the book "New Life in the Church" by Robert Raines.  She knew she would never be the same again.  From that point on her desire was to see people come to know Jesus as she had.  She and Dick joined the Navigators where they discipled couples and held Bible studies in their home.  She volunteered at the Union Rescue Mission Thrift Store, taught Child Evangelism Good News Clubs, Sunday School and AWANA and volunteered many hours  in the Christian schools their girls attended.

Her five grandsons were the joy of her older years.  She and Dick enjoyed attending their multitude of soccer and basketball  games, as well as band and choir programs even into the boys' college years. She was a faithful supporter and spectator. 

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Richard Randall; her parents, Glen Sr. and Isabel Hackmaster; a brother, Glen Hackmaster Jr.; and a granddaughter, Davida Busenitz.  

She is lovingly survived by her two daughters, Dana (Rick) Friesen of Wichita, and Gayle (David) Busenitz of North Newton; five grandsons, Chad (Rachel) Friesen, Mitchell (Annarose) Friesen, Luke Friesen, Broxton (Jessica) Busenitz, and Braeden Busenitz;  Six greatgrandchildren June, Asher, Nash and Mae Friesen, and Everest and Ezra Busenitz.

The celebration of life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (September 27, 2021) at Community Bible Church in Bel Aire, Kansas.  Memorial gifts may be designated for Milk and Honey Ministries, 5500 E. 45th St. N. Bel Aire, KS  67220.

A loving husband and father, John Philip Hays, 71 of Valley Center, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 15, 2021 after suffering a massive heart attack when at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in Topeka, KS on October 22, 1949 to his parents Barney and Luella (Moffitt) Hays. He spent most of his younger life living in the Topeka area and attended school at the Berryton schools and Shawnee Heights High School. The family moved to Wichita and he graduated from Campus High School in Haysville, Kansas and Wichita State University.

He was united in marriage to Janet Bland on December 5, 1969 in Wichita, Kansas. John retired as co-owner of Ferroloy, Inc., a Wichita foundry, and spent many years in that field. He enjoyed being part of the Payne Township Board after his retirement and had many friends throughout the community. John developed, received a patent and marketed a device, K9-Fork, for dog care. John and Janet enjoyed country living being active for years owning Miniature Horses and had many special friendships by doing so. John was always willing and wanting to help his wife, family, or friends. He loved the Lord and was dedicated to studying his Bible daily and being part of the Summit Church where he highly respected and loved Brother Joe Wright and others there, as well as those he knew from Countryside Christian Church where they attended services for years. He was active and enjoyed being busy and on the go every day never slowing down so this was totally unexpected and he will be greatly missed. We're very thankful to those at the Wesley Hospital for his care and their kindness to his family.

John is survived by his wife, Janet Hays of the home, his sons Jeff and Brian (Christi), four grandchildren, and his wife Janet's parents Kenny and Maxine Daniels, who were like parents to him. Larry Beam Heidebrecht, 75, concluded his earthly journey on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Omaha, Nebraska, with his wife of 52 years by his side. His eternal journey in Heaven has begun. Larry was a warehouser at Johns-Manville for almost 30 years before he retired. He also worked at CertainTeed for almost 10 years. Larry was born in McPherson, Kansas, on May 4, 1946, the son of Ralph Franz Heidebrecht and Orpha Idella (Beam) Heidebrecht. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1964 and then attended McPherson College. In 1969 Larry married Kathy Taylor in McPherson, where they lived together until three years ago when they moved to Omaha to be closer to family. Larry and Kathy were members of the First Baptist Church in McPherson for 40 years before they became members of the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha. Larry was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. and the Optimist Club, both in McPherson. He thoroughly enjoyed playing sports during his lifetime, especially baseball with the Babe Ruth team, football in high school and softball with the All-Stars and other teams. One summer he played on four softball teams! Following the Bullpups during any season was a must, especially when his son and daughter were participating. Larry loved to go hunting and had such perfect vision that he could see quail and pheasant a half mile ahead on the road! He was a scholar of the Civil War and enjoyed reading historical biographies, narratives, and non-fiction. Larry followed his favorite sports teams and often could rattle off a list of players and stats at any given moment. He also loved class reunions, where he sometimes portrayed the Great Karnac, and family reunions, and any reunions when the Aces were involved. And, oh, how he loved the Aces! He was known for his exquisite handwriting, perfect memory and perfect kindness, honesty and charity. Larry was also a meticulous accountant for the household, also, and rarely needed a calculator! He was a generous and hard-working provider for his family and always ensured his children could attend summer camps, take family vacations and excel in their interests, all of which generated so many wonderful memories. Larry particularly loved his canine and feline pets, who equally relished in his attentions and provided him great companionship throughout his life. No one could ever say an unkind word about Larry. Survivors include: his wife Kathy, Omaha, NE; two children, Matthew Taylor Heidebrecht (Inga), Omaha, NE, and Sarah Elizabeth Heidebrecht, Hanover, NH; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Lukas David and Markus James, both of Omaha, and Nova Lise of Hanover, NH; his brother, John "Babe" Stanley Heidebrecht of Wichita, KS, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sharon Kay Palmgren, 79, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 21, 2021, at Hospice House of Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born March 19, 1942, in Lyons, the daughter of Hiram and Marceline Tener Smith. 

Sharon was a near lifelong Rice County resident. She graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1960, and attended Union 5 Schools. Sharon owned and operated Burrton Mini Mall in Burrton, Kansas, where she sold arts &amp; crafts; she was also a Avon Sales Representative; military spouse; and a homemaker. She enjoyed making arts and crafts, especially Burden Bears, which she enjoyed giving away. Sharon loved spending time with her family and ingrained the love of family into her own family. Sharon was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Lyons, where she sang in the church choir and served on several church committees; and was a member of the United Methodist Women. On August 27, 1971, Sharon was united in marriage with John Palmgren in Hutchinson, Kansas. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her six children, Chris Allen Morrison and wife Christy of Lyons, Steve Morrison and wife Tonya of Whitewater, TX, John Chris Palmgren of Salina, KS, Dan Brown and wife Haley of Nesbit, MS, Jennifer Demoret and husband Brad of Lynchburg, VA, and Cynthia Rivera and fiancé Jeremy Bilson of Lyons; twenty-five grandchildren; and forty-one great grandchildren and one on the way. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; two stepmothers, Lily Smith, and Anna Smisor-Smith; two brothers, Frank Smith, and Dwayne Smith; two sisters, Jeannine Hefley, and Delores Nevil; and granddaughter, Kayla Demoret.

She was born March 25, 1937, in Haxton, Colorado, the daughter of John and Zella Spelts Luntsford. Mattie has resided in Lyons since 1952, formerly of Denver, Colorado. She attended Lyons High School, Lyons. Mattie received her CNA, CMA, Activities Aide, Rehabilitation Aide, and Alzheimer’s Aide certificates from Good Samaritan Society. She was a certified nurse aide, med aide, and rehabilitation aide at Good Samaritan Society of Lyons from 1983 until her retirement in 2012. Mattie dedicated ten years in the Angels Wing of Good Samaritan Society. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, and the First Christian Church, both of Lyons. Mattie volunteered at the Rice County Women’s Thrift Shop, Rice County Food Bank, Boy Scout cabin, and volunteered at Good Samaritan Society, to host ice cream socials and bingo nights, and run the soda shop. She attended dinners at Park Place and traveled on bus trips with the Park Place residents. On July 5, 1954, Mattie was united in marriage with Larry Hemry in Lyons. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and step brother, Robert Shank. Mattie is survived by her seven children, Larry Dan Hemry and the late Bea of Randolph, KS, Rhonda Rae Sorell and husband Phil of St. George, KS, Arthur Dwayne Hemry and wife Sherry of Little River, KS; Zelena Sue Hemry and husband Danny Phillips of Silvia, KS, Tammy Renee Fundenberger and husband Darren of Lyons, Tina Kay Kelley and husband Todd of Lyons, Kimberly Dionne Creswell and husband Jeffry of Mount Hope, KS; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the First Christian Church Lyons, with Rev. Robert Friesen and Pastor Thom Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Arlene was born on June 3, 1928, in Latimer, KS to William Frank Ohm and Martha Emma Johanna Pegorsch. She attended school at the Lutheran Parochial School, then the school in Latimer. Prior to marriage she cleaned houses, apartments and worked at the Herington Air Base. After marriage she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for her and Lloyd’s business Barrett Plumbing. On July 24, 1948, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Barrett at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington. They spent 49 wonderful years together before his passing in 1997. To this marriage was born a daughter, Marsha, with whom Arlene lived with in Lost Springs the last 13 months of her life.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Marsha Pagenkopf (Mark), of Lost Springs, KS; grandchildren; Holly Stenfors of Ormond Beach, FL, Kelly (Leanne) Wonser of Goessel, KS, Mark (Julie) Pagenkopf II of Lincolnville, KS; Great-grandchildren; Amanda (Michael) Patterson of Herington, KS, Hannah (Matthew) Calisi of Daytona Beach, FL, Logan, Adam, Dawson Wonser of Goessel, KS, Marlie Pagenkopf and Weston Pagenkopf of Lincolnville, KS; and great great-grandchildren; Sadie Patterson of Herington KS, Sage and Hazel Calisi of Daytona Beach, FL. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Ohm and wife Fran of Wichita, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Billy Ohm, and her loving husband Lloyd. Ruby passed away September&nbsp;14th, 2021 at Sunrise Home, Metairie, LA.&nbsp; She was born July 29, 1925&nbsp;in Rocky Comfort, MO. She married Con Mills in 1946, he passed away&nbsp;June 19th, 2020. &nbsp;

Ruby had a passion for friend and family gatherings and all&nbsp;Holidays. She was also an amazing Hostess! Ruby and Con are&nbsp;survived by 4 children; Nancy Gennusa (Tommy), Chuck Mills (Mary),&nbsp;Sandy Dirks (Al), Brad Mills (Ahnie), as well as 9 Grandchildren and&nbsp;15 Great Grandchildren.&nbsp; Both Ruby and Con are and will continue to be missed by all of their&nbsp;friends and family.&nbsp; Knowing how much Ruby missed Con &amp; &nbsp;due to his recent &nbsp;passing, the family&nbsp;takes comfort in knowing he was there to welcome her with open arms.

&nbsp; George William Hodson Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2021, at 6:15 AM. He was the widower of Jeanette Marvelle Hodson, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, and Maxine (McHenry) Hodson, with whom he shared 5 years of marriage. Born in Taylor, Nebraska on May 20, 1937, George was the son of Ralph and Blanche Hodson. He graduated Taylor High School in 1955, Central Christian College in 1957, and Washington State University in the early 1960s with a degree in Industrial Arts. He was employed at many different jobs throughout his life, including High School Industrial Arts teacher, dorm parent and head of maintenance, insurance salesman, fertilizer plant assistant manager, and farmer. George belonged to the Free Methodist Church in McPherson, and later was part of the Northwest Free Methodist Church in Wichita. He was a Sunday school teacher, a worship leader, and a choir singer for many years. He had a great work ethic, loved helping others, and he liked new challenges. From fixing broken items to assembling all types of puzzles or learning a new game, he was always ready to play. George loved working with his hands outside and enjoying nature. George is survived by his children Valerie (Ron) Blanchat of Wichita,&nbsp; George “Joe” (Sues) Hodson Jr. of Omaha, NE, and Carrie Hodson of Centralia, WA; sisters Doris Alexander, Caroline Cone (Eugene), Sally Hart (Phil); brothers Gerald Hodson (Marilyn), Richard Hodson (Bev); seven grandchildren, Jeremiah (Heidi) Nelson, Valisha (Eric) Buselt, George (Mandi) Hodson III, John Hodson, Sierra Hodson, Patrick Hodson, and Mariah Hodson; twelve great-grandchildren, Alexis Blanchat, Austin Blanchat, Emerson Roney, Beckham Nelson, Bentley Nelson, Madelina Nelson, Evalea Nelson, Joshua Hodson, Samantha Hodson, Serena Hodson, Sophia Hodson, and Faith Walker. LaWanda L. Hoffman, 88, died September 20, 2021, at the Thorne Healthcare Center, Hutchinson. She was born October 12, 1932, in Great Bend, the daughter of August and Hattie Mae Bryant Langrehr. She was a graduate of Ellinwood High School and had attended Salt City Business College. She attended Crossroads Christian Church and was retired from Graphic Impressions Sign Company.

She married Frank Hoffman, Sr on April 10, 1951 in Ellinwood. He passed away on March 4, 2012.

Survivors include her children, Vicky Hoffman, Burrton, Nancy (Craig) Allen, Windom, Joan (Dave) Schrag, South Hutchinson, Donna (Chuck) Hoefer, Hutchinson, Frank Hoffman, Jr., Hutchinson, and Scott (Julia) Hoffman, Spivey; 21 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harry and Dwayne Langrehr.
