Ermalee Merritt, 89, died Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born March 12, 1935, at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, to parents, Frank B. Jones and Bertha O. (Rictor) Jones.

Ermalee graduated in 1953 from Reno Community High School, Nickerson. She married her high school sweetheart, Ancil M. Taylor of rural Sterling on October 25, 1953, at Church of Christ on 14th and Adams St., Hutchinson. To their union brought four children: DeeAnn, Maribeth, Max Alan and Lora Lee Taylor.

Ermalee and Ancil lived and farmed at the Taylor place in the rural Sterling area for a number of years prior to re-locating to Great Bend, in 1966. She was a former member of the 14th and Adams Church of Christ in Hutchinson and the Great Bend, Church of Christ at 12th and Stone. Ermalee was a current member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Ermalee and Ancil lost their son, Max, to cancer on January 10, 1986, in Great Bend. Ancil died on December 20, 1987, in Great Bend, also due to cancer. She later married Elmo Merritt on November 24, 1990, in Great Bend. &nbsp;They moved to Hutchinson. She was widowed a second time with his passing in 2017. Through all the sorrow and loss in her life, she pressed on, always faithful, hopeful and trusting in her Maker.

Ermalee was a devoted, loving and treasured wife, mother, “grammy,” “great-grammy,” sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece and friend. Her bright spirit shined through when she offered joy, compassion and encouragement to others. Ermalee’s generosity, kindness and wit blessed many. Ever so stylish and fashionable, she specifically loved jewelry and hats. An accomplished seamstress throughout her lifetime, she made countless wearable and decorative works of art. Ermalee had a special gift for creating stunning floral and interior designs. She loved decorating her home for all the seasons and holidays. Ermalee’s energy, creativity and talent were amazing! She gave the best hugs and being wrapped in her embrace was one of the most comforting places to be. Being lucky enough to be loved by her was the most precious of gifts and she will be missed beyond measure.

Survivors include her three daughters and their spouses: DeeAnn and Jim Krueger of Wichita, Maribeth Benker of Great Bend, Lora and Brent Dungan of &nbsp;Wichita and Fort Collins, CO; six grandchildren, Christopher Krueger of Wichita, KS; Kelsy Krueger of Wichita, Corry (Fradd) Kelly and Justin of Great Bend, Maggie Dungan of Fort Collins, CO, Eva Dungan of Fort Collins, CO and Oliver Dungan of Wichita; great-grandchildren, &nbsp;RaeLynn Rowe and Kimber Rowe of Great Bend, Lennox Krueger of Wichita; and sisters, Ilene (Jones) Roth and Sue (Jones) Hill, all of Hutchinson.

Ermalee was preceded in death by additional family members including: her parents; in-laws Glenn G. and Helen E. Taylor; son-in-law Keith Benker; and step-grandson Kelly Benker; and numerous other valued and loved family members who went before her.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with Wayne DeWindt officiating. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Private family inurnment will take place in the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.&nbsp;

Terry Killgore, 74, of Hutchinson, died peacefully September 17, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born May 11, 1950, in Wichita, to Gene and Ruth (Stutler) Killgore.&nbsp;

Terry graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1968 and loved his classmates dearly. &nbsp;He was nicknamed “Flash” by some because of his love of running. &nbsp;He obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University in 1972. Terry worked at GO Steel until an industrial accident forced him to leave in 1975. He then worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation until 1987 when he had another accident which forced him to retire. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Terry enjoyed collecting pennies and putting together puzzles. He cheered for the K-State Wildcats, the New York Yankees, and the Indianapolis Colts. Terry always had a positive attitude and was very giving with his time and love. He had a survivor’s spirit and fought through many trials and accidents, yet stood fast in his love for Jesus.&nbsp;

On June 16, 1989, he married Cynthia Regehr in Inman. They shared 35 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Terry is survived by: wife, Cynthia Killgore of Hutchinson; sons, Andrew (Cara) Killgore of Cincinnati, OH, Aaron Killgore of Vancouver, WA, Adam Killgore of Nashville, TN; brothers, Mike (Charlotte) Killgore of Angier, NC, Ray (Nancy) Killgore of Sarasota, FL; sister, Kelly (Craig) Towers of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Drew, Noah, Kate, Liam; mother of his sons, Tina Jo Cheatum; sisters-in-law, Connie (Willie) Newcome of Inman, Marna Regehr of Montgomery Village, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Visitation will be on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 6 – 8 pm at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp; A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2 pm at Hutchinson Gospel Chapel, 2005 Hendricks St, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Luke Helmuth officiating. &nbsp;Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Raymond Allen Willems, 92, of Inman, KS, passed away at 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Pleasant View Home, Inman Kansas.

Ray was born in Hillsboro, Kansas on January 12, 1932, a son of Henry K. and Agnes E. (Linden) Willems.

He attended Canada grade school, Canada, Kansas and then entered Hillsboro High School until his Junior year.

Ray served in the Navy in the Korean War.&nbsp; He also served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt in the Korean War.

Through the years Ray worked as a truck driver for Farmland.

Raymond A. Willems was united in marriage to Dolores M. Erker on April 7, 1956 at Wichita, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas.

Ray enjoyed coffee with the guys at Wendy's, fishing, trapping, travel, driving, gambling, talking about cars and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his children, Rex Willems(Lorenda), of Wildomar, CA., Roxane Gill(jeff), of Salina, KS., Rhonda King, McPherson, KS., Renee Foster(Ronald), of Hutchinson, KS. and Raissa Andersen, McPherson, KS.; daughter in law, Cheryl Willems, of McPherson, KS.; brother Richard Willems(Geraldine), of Wichita, KS and sister, Virginia Weyand(laVern), McPherson, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.

Jerome C. “Jerry” Unruh, 79, of Inman, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the Pleasant View Home. He was born on December 29, 1944 in Goessel, Kansas, to Reuben and Tena (Reimer) Unruh.

Jerry grew up on a farm north of Moundridge, Kansas and was a long-time resident. Growing up, Jerry was a member of the Better Farms 4-H club. He was a talented gardener and entered his projects in the McPherson and Moundridge fairs, winning many awards.

He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1962.

Jerry met Marjorie Ann Stucky shortly after graduating from high school and then found out that both of them had grown up on farms within a short distance from each other. Jerry and Marjorie were united in marriage on August 20, 1966. They shared almost 44 years of marriage until Marjorie’s passing on June 6, 2010.

Jerry worked for Hesston Manufacturing Company in the Paint Department.

He was a long-time member of the West Zion Mennonite Church, Moundridge, and later joined Zoar Mennonite Brethren Church, Inman.

He is survived by his brother, Irl (Sharon) Unruh of Marble Falls, TX; sister, Kathy (Chester) Sangwin of Silsbee, TX; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Sam) Friesen of McPherson, KS; brother-in-law, Jim (Danella) Stucky of Pleasant Hill, MO; nieces and nephews, David Unruh, Darwin (Des) Unruh, Daryl (Billie) Unruh, Donna (Dale) Nolen, Monty Unruh, Tammy (Jeff) Tinkle, Katherena (Bo) Hoffman, Tracy (Joshua) Kruse, Christopher Stucky, Maaura Stucky, Joel Stucky, and Daniel Stucky; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Donald Unruh; and niece, Tonya Unruh.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Mound Township Cemetery, rural Moundridge. Merlin Gale Shumway, 92, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Wheatland Health Care Center. He was born on June 14, 1932 in Preston to Glenn and Hazel (Leroux) Shumway. Merlin married Mary (DeRome) Shumway on February 19, 1955 at the Christian Church in Pratt, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2015.

Merlin graduated from Preston High School in 1950. He worked for the Department of Transportation as an Engineer Technician for 40 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Pratt. He enjoyed fishing, camping, shooting guns, playing his guitar and singing with his friends. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Darrell) McNelly of Kingman; sister, Karen Troyer of Ellinwood; grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) McNelly of Kingman, Cody McNelly of Wichita, Abby Henning of Houston, Texas and Tyler (Leslie McElheny) Shumway of Hutchinson; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn McNelly, Parker McNelly and Rhett Henning.

Merlin is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Shumway; son, Mark Shumway; brothers, Dale Shumway, Lloyd Shumway and Ronald Shumway; and sisters, Lovara Rein, Glenda Ellison and Ella Glenn.

Dennis Wayne Shank, 77, died September 18, 2024, at Heartland Haven, Inman. He was born May 14, 1947, at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, the son of Kenneth and Ella Irene Stiles Shank.

He was a graduate of Buhler High School. Dennis served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a construction worker.

Dennis was an avid stamp collector and loved his John Deere Mower. He lived in Medora most of his life, where he worked At Polk’s Farm Market part-time. He loved Medora because he knew people would watch out for and take care of him.

Survivors include his siblings, Velma Ediger and Kenneth Dean Shank, both of Buhler and David Shank, Hutchinson; nieces and nephews, John and Dana Eckert, Amy and John Orrison, Jessica and Harold Owens, Justin and Amanda Shank, Michelle and Dima Vakulenko, Melissa and Charlie Hayes, Heidi and Scott Fry, Joshua Ediger, Danielle and David McKenzie, Paige Shank, Matthew Kline, and Samantha Estabrook; and extended family, Christine and Billie Wolf and family, Medora, who have been not only his family, but caretakers for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vivian Eckert; and a brother, Douglas Shank.

Henry “Tony” Terlik, 76, died peacefully September 17, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. &nbsp;He was born August 24, 1948, in Queens, NY, to Henry John and Lottie T. (Wolyniec) Terlik.&nbsp;

Tony was exceptionally bright and gifted, especially when it came to technology. &nbsp;He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1974, during the Vietnam War. &nbsp;There, Tony undertook the challenge of adapting the use of technology to support military efforts. &nbsp;Later, he owned and operated Professional Computer Services in Hutchinson for over 40 years.&nbsp;

Tony had a deep appreciation for the absurd, a dry sense of humor, and a love for classic rock. &nbsp;He enjoyed quiet contemplation and could often be found watching flight paths of small aircraft and playing games with family and friends. &nbsp;He also loved fine dining and a good rusty nail cocktail. &nbsp;Despite his quiet and kind demeanor, he was fiercely proud and supportive of his children and grandchildren, always providing love and encouragement.

While he lived in the country, Tony grew an extensive pumpkin patch, proudly supplying Holy Cross Catholic Church with pumpkins each fall for their fundraiser. &nbsp;He was a long-standing member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, and for over 25 years devoted himself to perpetual adoration.

Tony is survived by his best friend and companion of 25 years, Patti Fahrbach of Hutchinson; children, Theresa Rappaport (Adam), Paul O’Callaghan (Mindy), Shalah O’Callaghan (Tyson), Donovan O’Callaghan (Heather), Kieran O’Callaghan (Austin), Sean O’Callaghan, Tom Fahrbach (Marissa), Bill Fahrbach, Joe Fahrbach (Lori), and Julie Fahrbach; 21 grandchildren, Karma, Kaya, Ariana, Brennan, Danielle, Chance, Cassidy, Rowan, Gareth, A.J., Gavin, Molly, Kieran, Leo, Elaine, Natalie, Holly, Addie, Benson, Anna, and Dean; four great-grandchildren, Jalen, Liliana, DeAndre, and Joaquin; sister, Anne Chu (Wyman); Judy Terlik; and numerous cousins and extended family.&nbsp;

She was beloved mom, grandma, sister and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Carl Willard Bengston, son of John William and Hildur Carolina Ekholm Bengston was born October 2, 1932, at Grace Hospital Hutchinson, KS. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 14, 2024.&nbsp;Willard passed away on the land he had lived for 91 years.&nbsp;

Willard grew up in the Windom community and the Andover Lutheran Church area where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended a one room country school, Hayes Center, where he graduated the 8th &nbsp;grade. He then attended Windom High School, graduating in 1950. Willard grew up raising sheep and cattle.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also enjoyed trapping animals for their fur. At that time, fur was valuable, and it helped him to support himself in grade school and high school.&nbsp;&nbsp;He always enjoyed working with animals. He was always willing to help the neighbors with their cattle when an issue would arise. After graduating from high school, he knew he would be drafted into the military during the Korean conflict.&nbsp;&nbsp;He decided to enlist into the Army and get training for carburetor and ignition repair on military equipment at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was stationed in Europe and spent six months at Mainz, Germany and two years at Braconne and La Rochelle, France.&nbsp;&nbsp;During that time, he also served in the Honor Guard.&nbsp;&nbsp;After serving from March 1953 to March 1956, he was honorably discharged. He returned to Windom and began his 35 year career at Skelly Underground Storage, Conway, Kansas.

Home from the Army, Willard attended an Inman High School basketball game, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Ensz.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married July 14, 1957. The marriage was blessed with three sons.&nbsp;&nbsp;Upon retiring from Skelly, Willard and Joyce were able to travel across the United States and Canada.&nbsp;One of Willard’s joys was fishing, he enjoyed taking his sons to Minnesota yearly to fish. Later when he had grandchildren, his sons and grandchildren took him fishing on Lake Texoma and Table Rock Lake.&nbsp;Willard taught his sons that there was nothing they could not do, and he was always very proud of what they accomplished. One of Willard’s greatest joys was his sons, grandchildren, their spouses and great grandchildren.&nbsp;Most live nearby so there is always a lot of interaction with all the generations. Family gatherings of nieces, nephews, and cousins were entertaining, and stories of the old days abound.

In 2017, the decision was made to join the Zoar church in Inman, where Joyce grew up.&nbsp;

Gertrude M. Unruh, 91, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the Moundridge Manor. She was born on August 4, 1933 in rural Galva, to Eldon and Dessie Mae (Koehn) Johnson.

Gertrude was a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Galva.

She was a devoted homemaker. Gertrude worked at the Moundridge Manor from 1989 to 2007 as a Physical Therapy Assistant, and then worked as an Activity Aid for 13 years, where she would read to the residents.

Gertrude was united in marriage to Clayton J. Unruh on July 20, 1952 in rural Galva. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1995.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Marilyn) Unruh, Marsha (Robert) Shultis, and Tammy (Bryan) Taylor, all of Galva; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnnie (Annie) Johnson of&nbsp;Arthur, IL, Orval (Myra) Johnson of Moundridge, and Stanley (Marilee) Johnson of Galva; sisters, Linda Unruh of Moundridge, Barbara Unruh of Galva, Joyce (Warren) Wiggers of Hesston, Vera (Larry) Ratzlaff of Moundridge, Beverly Holderman of Scotia, NE, Janice (Don) Boeckner of Scotia, NE, Jeanne (Sherwin) Unruh of Galva, and Susan (Mike) Reimer of Leland, MS.

She was born on August 4, 1933 in rural Galva, to Eldon and Dessie Mae (Koehn) Johnson.Gertrude was a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Galva.She was a devoted homemaker. Gertrude worked at the Moundridge Manor from 1989 to 2007 as a Physical Therapy Assistant, and then worked as an Activity Aid for 13 years, where she would read to the residents.Gertrude was united in marriage to Clayton J. Unruh on July 20, 1952 in rural Galva. Marjorie "Marj" Marie Meis, 67, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. She was born on February 28, 1957 in Kansas to Austin Alexander and Davida (Wilmot) Meis.

Marj graduated from Pratt High School in 1975. She worked at Pratt Regional Medical Center for 40 plus years where she started in dietary and moved to housekeeping. She then retired in August of 2023. Upon retirement, she has kept in contact with several of her coworkers that she considered her family. She enjoyed dog sitting, NASCAR racing and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Marj is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog, Taz Meis.

Per Marj wishes, cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at a later date at Sunset Cemetery, Cullison.

Nolan Cornell Smith, 75, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born on July 3, 1949 in Hutchinson to Robert Clark and Delores Caroline (Hoffman) Smith.

Nolan served in The United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He then attended and graduated from Pratt Community College with his Associates in Electrical Science. Upon graduation he enlisted in The United States Navy. He was a member of Turon Community Church and lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his brothers, Rodney (Sharen) Smith of Katy, Texas and Maurice Smith of Topeka, Kansas; and nieces and nephews, Suzanne Smith, Eric Smith, Lisa Reisz, Sheldon Smith, Todd Smith, Brian Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Daniel Smith, Steven Smith, Nathan Smith, Heidi Smith Herrera, Jesse Smith and Jeremiah Smith.

Nolan is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Manuel Smith and Randall Smith; and sisters in-law, Joan Smith and Sheila Smith.

On September 16th, 2024, Kent Wayne Jost died unexpectedly in Stafford, Kansas from an accidental fall. He was 60 years old.

Kent is survived by his wife, Kim Jost, his mother Joan Jost; his children Ashlee (Grady) Pauls, Cole (Kathryn) Jost, Ali (Tyler) McCartney and their mother, Diane Jost; his stepchildren Chastalyn (Matt) Johnson, Channelle (Zack) Steffen, Taylor (Rai) Douglas, Trey Douglas; his siblings Keith (Sharla) Jost and Karen Miles along with his 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Jost.

Kent was born on December 26, 1963, in Hillsboro, Kansas. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1982 and went on to attend Butler County Community College. There, he played baseball and graduated in 1984 with an associate’s degree in auto body repair.

Kent married Kim in 2018. His hobbies included playing softball and golf, hunting, working cattle, and spending time with his family and grandkids.

The visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 19th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Jost Funeral Home located at 401 S Washington St. Hillsboro, Kansas. David Seifert passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 5th, 2024, in Sacramento, California at the age of 55. He was born on April 29, 1969, in Hutchinson, Kansas. David was an amazing Hair Stylist, Realtor, and one heck of a Mobile Phone Salesperson. People would hire David to cut, style, and color their hair from hundreds of miles away and pay him to travel to them. At the same time he would tell them, "he was a beautician and not magician." (People loved him for his ability and telling it like it was.)

David had a passion for rescuing abandoned Pugs. During his life, he had a total of eleven Pugs of which seven of them were rescued by him and his Husband Brent. Nine of the eleven have passed but two are still alive and full of Pug personality. Gardening and cooking were a couple of David's passions. He even had a French Provencal style flower garden in 117-degree heat in Las Vegas when he lived there.

David was very smart and if you asked him a question he would give you an answer. He knew everything, even when he was wrong, and to challenge him to a debate was never a promising idea. When David's Husband Brent was battling cancer, David stepped up to Brent's every need, because that was the giving and caring person that he was.

He leaves behind an enormous supportive family and group of friends. His Husband Brent Showalter, Brent's Daughter Kaitlynn (who he considered his own Daughter), Kaitlynn's Husband Tyler, and Brent's Granddaughter Olivia. His sisters Amy Ratley, Diann (Paul) Stropes, nieces Jennifer (Michael) Warner (Wesley, Aiden, and Joel) Leah Ratley, Alexis Ratley (Macie and Mateo McAllister.)

He was proceeded in death by Parents, Stanley and Beverly Seifert. Grandma Opal Dunn; Grandpa Harry Seifert and Grandpa Ora Dunn, Grandma Gladys Eales, Grandpa Phillip Eales, and niece Laura Ratley.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at Carey Park Homebuilders building in Hutchinson, Kansas; from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A lunch buffet and beverages will be served. A slideshow of memories will be shown along with some of Davids favorite tunes played by a DJ.

Harold R. Tuxhorn Sr., 96, died September 15, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born August 31, 1928, in Imperial, NE, to Edward Herman and Emma Augusta (Belau) Tuxhorn.

Harold graduated from Byers High School, Colorado, in 1947. He later attended Mesa College. Harold worked for Excel Energy in Colorado as a gas engineer, helping plot pipeline through the mountains. He enjoyed flipping houses, fishing, hunting, and was an avid reader of his Bible. Harold was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Grand Junction, CO.&nbsp;

On November 1, 1947, he married Iris Jean Robbins, in Byers, CO. They shared over 72 years of marriage prior to her death on April 23, 2020.

Harold is survived by: children; Linda (John) Chansler, Edward (Pam) Tuxhorn, both of Hutchinson, Harold (Charlotte) Tuxhorn Jr. of Leadville, CO, and Susan (Clay) Hauser) of Grand Junction, CO; brothers Ervin Tuxhorn of Byers, CO, and Charles Tuxhorn of Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Iris; daughter Yvonne Tuxhorn; son, Steve Tuxhorn; and two great grandchildren.

Full of love, laughter and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was born in Newton, Kansas to Jacob Raymond Foulk and Evelyn Eva Egbert. Linda attended Potwin High School and Remington High School, then achieved her Associates Degree from Butler County Community College. A lover of reading, gardening and animals, Linda found beauty in life’s simple moments and encouraged us all to do the same.

She was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Evelyn Foulk; her brothers Robert “Bob” Foulk and Charles “Chuck” Foulk.

She leaves behind 3 children Richard “Rick” Peters, Stephanie Wolf and Christy Moelder; 4 grandchildren Spencer Hall, Chloe Hall, Kate Peters and Shannon Gray; 3 great grandchildren; her nephew Charles Foulk and niece MaLinda Moomey.

Linda Jean Cunningham |1948-2024|

Donald Dean Holmberg, 81, of Hutchinson, Kansas, went home to meet Jesus on September 14, 2024.

He was born in Girard, Kansas in 1943 to Donald and Mary Holmberg. He graduated from Blue Valley Rural High School in 1961. Don joined the Army National Guard and attended Kansas State University. He then began a long, distinguished career with Kansas Highway Patrol in 1966, eventually achieving the rank of Area Field Sargeant.

Don married the love of his life, Colene Ann Wilson, on June 3, 1967, in Clay Center, Kansas.

They began their lives together in Pittsburgh, Kansas and shared 57 years of marriage. Don and Colene were blessed with three children, Kirk, Kyle and April. They raised their family in Larned, Kansas, before moving to Hutchinson after retiring.

His relationship with Jesus was very important to Don. He was a faithful member of the churches he attended, and he led his family well.

Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and fostered his children’s and grandchildren’s love of the outdoors. He treasured the fishing trips made to Roaring River and the all day pheasant hunts with his family. The Ozarks were a favorite camping spot for Don and the family while they lived in Pittsburg. After moving to Larned and on to Hutchinson, they enjoyed spending time with their family camping and boating at Wilson Lake. Don enjoyed golfing, bird watching, and gardening, even earning the title of Master Gardner. Don loved watching the Royals, the Chiefs, Gunsmoke and John Wayne.

Though he enjoyed all of these activities, Don’s favorite role was that of father and grandfather.

He was always there for his children and grandchildren, and he enjoyed helping them with various projects and activities. Don rarely missed a school program or sporting event and was each grandchild’s biggest (and second loudest - next to their grandma) fan.

Don also loved all creatures, especially his numerous furry friends over the years. He treated each and every pet like a valuable family member. Muffy will miss Don’s love and attention (and also all the extra snacks).

Don will be remembered for immeasurable love for his family. He will be forever missed.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Holmberg, and is survived by his wife, Colene Holmberg, Hutchinson, sons Kirk (Jackie) Holmberg and Kyle (Shannon) Holmberg, Hutchinson, daughter, April Cruz, Manzanola, Colorado, grandchildren, Kolby (Dakiree) Holmberg, Korey Holmberg, Samuel (Abbie) Cruz, Gabriel Cruz, Luke Holmberg, Zoey Holmberg, Max Henderson, and Ryland Henderson, and sisters Dianne Rasmusson and Debra Myers.

He graduated from Blue Valley Rural High School in 1961. Don joined the Army National Guard and attended Kansas State University. He then began a long, distinguished career with Kansas Highway Patrol in 1966, eventually achieving the rank of Area Field Sargeant.Don married the love of his life, Colene Ann Wilson, on June 3, 1967, in Clay Center, Kansas.They began their lives together in Pittsburgh, Kansas and shared 57 years of marriage. Don and Colene were blessed with three children, Kirk, Kyle and April. They raised their family in Larned, Kansas, before moving to Hutchinson after retiring.His relationship with Jesus was very important to Don. He was a faithful member of the churches he attended, and he led his family well.Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and fostered his children’s and grandchildren’s love of the outdoors. He treasured the fishing trips made to Roaring River and the all day pheasant hunts with his family. The Ozarks were a favorite camping spot for Don and the family while they lived in Pittsburg. After moving to Larned and on to Hutchinson, they enjoyed spending time with their family camping and boating at Wilson Lake. Don enjoyed golfing, bird watching, and gardening, even earning the title of Master Gardner. Don loved watching the Royals, the Chiefs, Gunsmoke and John Wayne.Though he enjoyed all of these activities, Don’s favorite role was that of father and grandfather.He was always there for his children and grandchildren, and he enjoyed helping them with various projects and activities. Don rarely missed a school program or sporting event and was each grandchild’s biggest (and second loudest - next to their grandma) fan.Don also loved all creatures, especially his numerous furry friends over the years. He treated each and every pet like a valuable family member. Muffy will miss Don’s love and attention (and also all the extra snacks).Don will be remembered for immeasurable love for his family. He will be forever missed.Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Holmberg, and is survived by his wife, Colene Holmberg, Hutchinson, sons Kirk (Jackie) Holmberg and Kyle (Shannon) Holmberg, Hutchinson, daughter, April Cruz, Manzanola, Colorado, grandchildren, Kolby (Dakiree) Holmberg, Korey Holmberg, Samuel (Abbie) Cruz, Gabriel Cruz, Luke Holmberg, Zoey Holmberg, Max Henderson, and Ryland Henderson, and sisters Dianne Rasmusson and Debra Myers.Don’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Inspire Church, 4290 N. Cynthia A. Hudson, 74, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at her home in Hutchinson, KS. Cynthia was born January 26, 1950, in Henderson, TN, the daughter of Harley and Alice (Howell) Douglas.

On July 6, 1999, Cynthia married Larry D. Hudson in Hutchinson, KS. They were married for 24 years before he passed away on June 22, 2024. She was an inspector at Midland Brake Inc. for 17 years. She was an avid Elvis lover and enjoyed spending time with her step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; stepson, Edward Hudson and a brother, Buddy Douglas.

Cynthia is survived by her stepchildren, James (Pam) Hudson, Catherine (Mike) Turnbull and Julie Hudson; daughter-in-law, Trish Hudson; sisters, Katherine Bockrath and Sandra Spencer; brother, Jonthan Vick; and several step- grandchildren and step- great grandchildren.

Catherine "Cathy" Herl, age 69, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, of Kingman, Kansas formerly of Hays, Kansas passed away at the Prairie Home in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, on September 13, 2024. She was born on October 11, 1954, in Hays to Peter and Cora (Zimmerman) Arnold.

From her earliest years, Cathy embodied the spirit of hard work, taking on responsibilities at her father's cafe, Pete's Cafe in downtown Hays. This foundation of dedication served her well as she later took on roles such as Food Service Manager at the Good Samaritan Society and worked at South McDonald's in Hays. Her unwavering commitment to her work was always evident, but it never overshadowed her love for people. Cathy was truly a conversationalist at heart; she had an innate ability to connect with others, always eager to lend an ear or share a story.

A proud graduate of Hays High School, Class of 1972, Cathy carried the values of her early life into her adulthood. She shared her life with her husband, Kenneth Herl of Kingman, and cherished her role as a mother to her two daughters, Shelly Herl Dreher (Ryan) of Hays and Amy Herl Bell (Marty) of Kingman. The family was the focal point of Cathy's life, and she found no greater joy than being a devoted grandmother of Austin Bell (CeCe), Mackenzie Bell, Parker Dreher, Brody Bell, Mason Dreher, and Presley Dreher who lit up her life with their laughter and achievements, and Cathy loved attending their sporting events to cheer them on.

Cathy was passionate about life and enriched it with her hobbies: camping, fishing, and shopping were activities she relished, but nothing compared to her love for talking on the phone, where she could keep in touch with her many friends and family members. Her warm personality and caring nature endeared her to all.

Though Cathy is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ken Arnold, her spirit will continue to live on through the loving memories she created with her family and friends. The legacy of her kindness, hard work, and love for life will forever be remembered by those she touched.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, Kansas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine in Hays.  A family led rosary service will be at 7 PM followed by a parish vigil.

Cathy Herl leaves behind a legacy of love, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

David Jay Gordon, 68, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson, KS. David was born November 3, 1955, in Hays, KS, the son of Hiram and Josephine (Dolezal) Gordon.

David graduated from Hoisington High School in 1974. He worked for Eaton Corp as a machinist welder for 15 years and Road Runner as a private contractor delivering public transportation buses. He enjoyed spending his evenings sitting on his porch visiting his neighbors and friends. That’s when he meet his neighbor and close friend Terry. On December 5, 1981, David married Janea Murphy. They were married for 34 years before her passing in 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janea; brother-in-law, Ronald Robertson; infant sister, Kathleen Gordon and nephew Travis Robertson.

David is survived by his sister, Michele Robertson; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
