Vivian “Faye” Smith, 100, Hutchinson, passed away March 24, 2022, at Sterling Village, Sterling. She was born May 26, 1921, on the family farm in Center Township, Rice County, Kansas to Nevin Sanford and Dena (Monson) Myers.
Faye graduated from Alden High School in 1939. She worked part-time as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Smith Auto Supply in Lyons, Kansas from 1952 to 1969, when the business was sold and they moved to Hutchinson. In Hutchinson, she worked part-time in the office at Pegues until 1976 when they retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas.
Faye was a member of the First Christian Church of Lyons.
She enjoyed sewing and cooking for the family, and in retirement she took pleasure in new hobbies of golf, bridge, and more traveling.
On July 21, 1940, Faye married Lyle C. Smith in Lyons. Lyle died one month after their 50th wedding anniversary, in August 1990.
She is survived by: two daughters, Sondra Pugh (Buddy), Conway, Ark.; and Diane Battershell (Howard), Hutchinson; four grandchildren: Michelle Maltbia, Conway, Ark.; Brian Pugh, West Fork, Ark.; Keri Renner, Topeka; and Darren Battershell, Ankeny, Iowa; and five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Maltbia, Bethany Pugh, Grace Renner, Jake Battershell and Luke Battershell.
Faye was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Lyle; three brothers; and two sisters.
Per Faye’s wishes, there will be no services. Following cremation, a private burial will take place in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons.
