Scott Andrew Taylor, 67, passed away April 7, 2022 at Hospice House, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born in Kinsley, on September 28, 1954 to Ted and Dolores Taylor.

Scott is survived by his father, Ted Taylor; sons, Abe (Jamey) Taylor, and Ian Penn; daughter, Crystal Taylor; brothers, Brad Taylor and Hunter Taylor; sister, Sue (Ralph) Rushman, and 8 grandchildren.

Gary Dee Jacobs, 82, passed away March 26, 2022, at Hutchinson Health and Rehab.&nbsp; He was born January 1, 1940, in Lyons, to Melville and Juanita (Clark) Jacobs.

Gary was a 1957 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; He worked in the lab at Eaton Corporation, retiring with over 40 years of service.&nbsp; Gary was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

He enjoyed gardening and building koi ponds.&nbsp; Gary had a real love for his animals and wildlife.

On September 1, 1963, he married Pamela Anne Wernet, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 58 years of marriage.

Gary is survived by: his wife, Pam Jacobs of Hutchinson; children, Marc (Barbara) Jacobs of Valley Center, and Heather (Ian) Malcolm of Bailey, CO; grandchildren, Ian Bertolacci, Mourin Malcolm, and Samara Malcolm; siblings, Kay Clark (Jan) Jacobs of Hutchinson, Wallace ‘Jake’ (Theresa) Jacobs of Wichita, and Gaye Stach of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

Carol Nurse Vester, 84, died April 2, 2022, after a long battle with IPF.&nbsp; She was born January 16, 1938, in rural Barber County, to Walter Scott and Ethel (Hunt) Nurse.

Carol attended schools in Barber County and graduated from Oklahoma State University (OSU).&nbsp; She was a member of and strong supporter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at OSU and maintained a close relationship with her ‘sisters’.&nbsp; Carol was a school teacher in Stafford and Tribune.&nbsp; While living in Reno County, she taught at the Fairfield schools and Nickerson Reno Valley school system, before retiring in 2005.&nbsp; Carol taught girls’ physical education, health, coached tennis, and retired as a librarian and media specialist.&nbsp; She was cherished and loved by many of her students and associates during her career in education.

On August 25, 1963, Carol married Richard H. Vester.&nbsp; They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this August.&nbsp; Their son, R. Scott Vester, was born January 26, 1969, in Tribune, KS.

Carol and Richard were active members of the Winnebago RV clubs and enjoyed the camaraderie of the many lifelong friends made with a wonderful variety of people.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed the Winnebago caravan to Alaska.

Carol is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of the home; son, Scott of Los Angeles, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and of course, her beloved students.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; sister, Betty DeMint; and brothers, Marvin M. Nurse and Jack D. Nurse.

Maureen Frances Bogner, 86, died April 6, 2022 at her home.

She was born Dec. 30, 1935 the daughter of Richard and Frances Sheahan McFadden.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of the Kingman community, she was a retired First Grade teacher for St. Patrick’s Catholic Grade School.

Maureen was a member and organist of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the D of I, and the Altar Society, all of Kingman.

On Aug. 22, 1959 she married Donald Bogner at Kingman; he died Oct. 19, 2008.&nbsp; Survivors include son Mark and his wife Julie Bogner (Molly and Jake and Baby May, Ben and Kate, and Rose); daughters and their husbands Theresa and Richard Rogers (Grace and Zachary), Mary and Len Messenger (Bonnie and Kyle, Colleen and Kelsey and Dominic Knowles, Katy, Billy, and Jacob and Melody), Ann and Daniel Meng (Mark and Brista, Landon, Ali, Trenten, Austin, Oliver, Adi, and Father Andrew), Becky and Jason Birkenbaugh (Audrey, Ty, Claire, and Logan), Sarah and Josh Holthusen (Joseph, Matthew, Luke, Noah, and Elijah); brother Patrick “P.D.” and Betty Jean “B.J.” McFadden; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law Bob Price, Duane and Nancy Bogner, Donna and Leroy Schawe, and Diane Bogner; and numerous nieces and nephew.&nbsp;

Wilma Maxine Symonds, 83, got her wings and went to join her loved ones in Heaven on&nbsp;Monday, April 4, 2022 at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS after a long battle with Parkinson’s.&nbsp; Wilma was born August 14, 1938 in Preston, MO, the daughter of Lloyd B. and Dorthy (Wooten) Drake. On November 7, 1958 she married Kenneth W. Symonds in Oklahoma, to this union they were blessed with three daughters, Vickie, Debbie, and Kimmie. Wilma was a devoted wife and mother. She was soft spoken and had a gentle soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anyone who met her grew to love her. Wilma dedicated her life to her husband and children. She enjoyed painting ceramics and crocheting.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Vickie Markhart; and three brothers, Orville, Larry, and Donald Drake. Wilma is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Gregg) DeGarmo and Kimmie (Anthony) Beltran all of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Kyrsten Beltran, Olivia Beltran, Emily Beltran, Brandy DeGarmo, Kylie DeGarmo, Daniel DeGarmo, Ben DeGarmo and 16 great grandchildren. Lori Ann Swanson, 64, of Mcpherson, passed away at 8am, Tuesday, April 5th, suddenly, at her home. Lori was born in McPherson, on October 17, 1957, a daughter of Doris Elaine (Spradlin) and Carl Wallace Swanson. Lori attended Santa Fe Country School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, in 1975. She then attended and graduated from Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson. Lori was blessed with the birth of a son, Adam Christopher in January of 1985. Through the years Lori worked as a X-Ray Technician for the Medicine Lodge Hospital, Medicine Lodge, Moberly Hospital, Moberly, Missouri, Hertzler Clinic, Halstead, and Hutchinson Clinic, Hutchinson. Lori enjoyed hanging out with her friends, watching the football games especially the Kansas City Chief's, helping friends out, and spending time with family. She loved delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and helping friends get to their appointments, fried chicken and French Silk Pie. Lori really enjoyed her dog's and cat's and caring for strays. Lori had a strong faith in her God. She is survived by her son, Adam Swanson, of McPherson, Kansas; her mother Doris Swanson, of McPherson; her brother, Dale Swanson and wife Kris Swanson, of McPherson; her nieces, Karin Krehbiel and husband Jay, of McPherson, and Leslie Lyman and husband Justin, of Overland Park; other relatives and a host of friends. Kenneth Brian Wood, age 64, passed away on April 2, 2022 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.  He was born on Mar. 27, 1958 at Larned, the son of Norman E. and Betty (Giebler) Wood. 

 He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts from Fort Hays State University and was a graduate of Valley Irrigation Technical School.  Kenneth was a life-long farmer and a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belpre, and the Kinsley Gun Club. 

 On May 23, 1981, he married Sheila F. (Smith) at Hays, she passed away in 1996.  On July 27, 1998, he married Melinda Rae (Jarnagin) at Pratt, she survives of the home.  Other survivors include his mother, Betty Wood, Pratt; 4 daughters, Janna Lee (Josh) Nelson, Marquette; Jamie Lauren (Eric) Weeks, Brownell; Jenna Lynn (Kyle) Loomis, Wichita; Janessa Leslie (Ryan) Asher, Wichita; a step-daughter, Shelby Rae Jarnagin, Pratt; a brother, Darrell N. (Natalie) Wood, Trousdale; sister, Karen L. (Justin) Vosburgh, Macksville; sister-in-law, Cynthia Lynn Wood, Trousdale; father and mother-in-law, Leslie and Donna Symes, Cheney; 11 grandchildren, Josie, Jaycee, Jaylin, Dakota, Dalton, Dracen, Kamden, Lindsey, Bailey, Aiden, Danni and numerous nieces and nephews. Kenneth Brian Wood  |1958-2022| 

Theodore Calvin Ronen, better known as Ted, 86, Hutchinson KS, died on April 4, 2022, at Hospice House.

He was born July 29, 1935, in Wichita, to William Loren and Marie Olivette (Weihe) Ronen.&nbsp; He grew up in Kansas and was a graduate of St. John High School in 1953.&nbsp; He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College (currently Emporia State University)&nbsp;with a degree in business administration/marketing in 1957.&nbsp; While in college, he played junior varsity basketball for two years and was a member of the men’s chorale and glee club.&nbsp;

Ted married Adele Marie Wilkens on December 28, 1955, when he was a junior at KSTC, Emporia.

Ted was co-owner of Meade Mfg. in Meade.&nbsp; He later started his own business in Meade, The Ronen Agency, which served the public in insurance, real estate, and securities. &nbsp;Most recently, after moving to Hutchinson, he was a real estate broker (aka The Cookie Man) for Coldwell Banker Americana from 1991 until his retirement in 2012.

In Meade, he was a member of Lions Club, a member of the school board for 8 years, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and he served on the City Council for several years.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; He was in a bowling league and played on the men’s softball team.&nbsp; He coached his young sons’ baseball and basketball teams.&nbsp; Ted’s greatest interest/hobby was cars—especially Fords.&nbsp; He also enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

M'Kala Jill (Bobbitt) Whitson was born June 6, 1969, to Bob and Beverly Bobbitt in Houma, LA. 

She was the youngest child with three siblings: brother Scott (Patti) of Harper; and sisters Kathy (Jon) Chamberlain of Prairieville, LA; and Lesli (Ed) Miles of Canton. The family moved back to Great Bend, when she was a few months old where she grew up and attended school graduating in the class of 1987. Her daughter KaiLei Megan was born in 1989 and shortly after she began her life's work as a daycare provider in Great Bend. 

M'Kala met her husband Ted in 1999 and they were married June 2, 2001, in Pratt. Ted had three children and she openly admitted to falling in love with the kids before him. After their marriage M'Kala opened her daycare in Pratt. In 2003 M'Kala and Ted became foster parents. Their first long-term placement came in March 2006 when two sisters came into their lives. The girls quickly became part of their household and their older sister Alicia even lived with the family for two years. In 2008 the two girls were adopted. 

M’Kala and Ted’s children are Linn (Jeremy) Walters of Olathe; KaiLei Petz of Pratt, KS; Anelise (Kevin) Towne of Wichita; Jakob (Ryna-Ria) Whitson of Pratt; Brittany Whitson of Osborn; and Cassie Whitson of the home. M'Kala's eight grandchildren - Carter, Tripp, Lilly, Arlo, Maisy, Emma, Nora and Hazel-Dean - had the most special place in her life. Mimi could always be counted on for unconditional love and sweets. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother and leaves behind many nieces and nephews and other family as well as countless friends across the country. 

Over the years M'Kala loved and nurtured hundreds of children in her home. Caring for children, especially babies, was her passion and heart's delight. Not only were the children cared for but also many anxious new parents relied on M'Kala's knowledge and comfort. She was a bright spot in the world and will be missed by all. 

A celebration of M'Kala's life will be held April 16th, 2022, at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt at 10:00 a.m. followed by a meal and an Easter Egg hunt for all at Lemon Park, East Shelter, Pratt. Inurnment will be take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.&nbsp;

She worked at Equishare Credit Union for 21 years serving as Vice-President for many of those years. She recently worked with Lending Tree Financial.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eugene &amp; Ina Lee Boatman, and Karl &amp; Beatrice Ammersbach. Leah Fern Walker Crotts, 96, died April 3, 2022, in Pretty Prairie. She was born December 5, 1925, in Bluff City, to Walter and Ida (Preheim) Walker, the fifth of seven children.

Fern graduated from Bluff City High School and Grace Hospital School of Nursing.&nbsp; On August 24, 1947, she married Harold Eugene Crotts, in Harper. They made their home on the family farm, between Penalosa and Turon, where they raised their six children.

Fern was known for her love of a good game, with cards and Scrabble being her favorite.&nbsp; She always played to win!&nbsp; Fern also made incredible pies and was a voracious reader.

She preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; sisters, Bess Comes, Libby Walker, and Ann Ott; and brothers, Victor Walker and Walter Walker.

Fern leaves behind:&nbsp; sons, Neil Crotts, Dodge City;Alan (Vicki) Crotts, Turon; Leigh (Sharon) Crotts, Phoenix, AZ; Wayne (Susan) Crotts, Hutchinson; Jon (Debbie) Crotts, Garden City; and daughter, Anne (Mike) Dowell, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Angela, Melissa, Bret, Levi, Matt, Tara, Zach, Nicole, Leah, and Tyler; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judy Parsons of Pretty Prairie.

Barbara Jane Spencer, 80, died April 2, 2022, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born October 21, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Bill and Marjorie (Goodwin) Wallace.

Barb graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958. She did some modeling in her teenage years. Barb was an avid frog collector, amassing nearly 4,000 frogs. She also enjoyed making Christmas ornaments for all her church family, crocheting, and making towels for veterans. Barb attended First Church of God.

On May 24, 1958, she married Dennis C. “Denny” Spencer, in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 59 years of marriage before his death on January 2, 2017.

Barb is survived by: her sons, Steve Spencer of Buhler, Chris Spencer of Kansas City; granddaughter, Molly Spencer of Wichita; sister, Annie May Metzler of Hutchinson; brothers, Charles Bibbs of Hutchinson, Gene Bibbs and Jerry Bibbs, both of Beebe, AR; and several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter-in-law, Debra Spencer; and sister, Cathie Weeks.

Raymond Joseph (Joe/Joe, Joe/Bishop) Carnaghi was born on December 23, 1954 in Bloomington, Illinois to Raymond and Mary Carnaghi.

He peacefully passed from this life on April 3, 2022 in Pratt. One of his great passions from an early age was music, not as a performer but as a composer, collector, and enthusiast. His collection included not only music but the various machines that played his beloved music. His dream was to open a free music history museum that would display his multiple Edison players, Victrolas, and 1950 vintage record players. He had a vast collection of Edison spindles, one sided records, 78s, 45s, and modern vinyl. He loved to share his love of music with every and anyone who would listen. His knowledge of early rock and roll trivia was second to none. Another passion of Joe’s was 1950-60 TV shows. Among his favorites were The Wild Wild West, Batman, Gunsmoke, Gilligan’s Island, and The Monkeys. Joe had a fantastic imagination and loved to make up and record stories for his nieces and nephew when they were small. Music and old TV shows was not Joe’s only passion. He was a dedicated sports fan and loved his Kansas City Chiefs, KC Royals, K-State football, and KU basketball. Joe moved a lot as a child attending school in 3 states and multiple towns. He attended Syracuse High School in Syracuse, for 10th and 11th grade and considered Syracuse his hometown. He graduated from Emporia High School in May 1973. He attended and graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, in May 1977. Joe settled in Larned, and worked at the Larned State Hospital for 27 years in the Food Service Department. While at the State Hospital, Joe mentored many inmates and was proud that he was a part of their rehabilitation. Joe retired from Larned State Hospital in August 2012. Joe faced many physical and other challenges during his life, but he persevered and lived his life his way. Joe had a distinct sense of humor and will be missed by all who took the time to get to know him. Joe always had a friendly ear to anyone who just needed someone to talk to. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Carnaghi, his mother, Mary Carnaghi, two brothers who died at birth, nephew, Raymond Register, and a great-nephew, Jackson Villella. He is survived by his 4 sisters, Susan (Frank) Beyerl of Belen, NM; Beth (Mauri) Register of Pratt; Annie (Rich) Pincus of Belen, NM; and Kay (Kelly) Russell of Belen, NM. Joe also leaves behind 2 nieces, Nichole (Domonic) Villella and Janelle Beyerl, and a nephew, Justin (Jordan) Beyerl, 3 great-nephews, Domonic Jr, Harison Villella and Judah Beyerl and 2 great nieces Madison Villella and Jayden Beyerl. Parish rosary will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his 4 sisters, Susan (Frank) Beyerl of Belen, NM; Beth (Mauri) Register of Pratt; Annie (Rich) Pincus of Belen, NM; and Kay (Kelly) Russell of Belen, NM. Joe also leaves behind 2 nieces, Nichole (Domonic) Villella and Janelle Beyerl, and a nephew, Justin (Jordan) Beyerl, 3 great-nephews, Domonic Jr, Harison Villella and Judah Beyerl and 2 great nieces Madison Villella and Jayden Beyerl. Mava Dawn Powell, 82, of Hardtner, died Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 11, 1939 in Alva, OK, the daughter of J.B. “Buck” Whitchurch and Lola (Gilleland) Whitchurch. Mava was a 1957 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School. She was a member of the Alva Chapter 1643 Women of the Moose, Alva, OK. Mava was the second highest rank with the Moose and her and Jim went to all of the Moose functions over the years. Betty Jean (McGinn) Hanna, 102, homemaker and retired co-owner of Hanna Furniture Company, Inc. passed away at home April 1, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born May 10, 1919 to Margaret (O’Keefe) and John McGinn on the family farm in Sedgwick. 

She married George J. Hanna on January 28, 1949. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Mary’s Choir. She was faithful to her hour at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Perpetual Adoration Chapel for 30 years. She joined Sorosis Club in 1967 and attained Honorary Member status. She enjoyed the fellowship and remained active until recent years. Betty’s true vocation was motherhood. She loved being a mother and raising her family. Throughout her life she nurtured many other children but was especially nurturing of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, George; siblings and spouses: Irene McGinn, Sam (Virginia) McGinn, Florence (Doug) Stites, Kay (Lynn) Stanley and Lois (George) Miller.

William Douglas Meyer 77, died April 1, 2022 at Newton Medical Center. He was born December 2, 1944 in Flandreau, South Dakota to William N. Meyer and Alvina C. Johnson Meyer.&nbsp; 

His parents were traveling evangelists for The Church of God of the Firstborn and he was raised on street meetings where his parents would spread the gospel for Christ.&nbsp; They later settled in Wichita, where he spent his teenage years.&nbsp; He started work at an early age and landed a great job as a potwasher for the Forum Cafeteria where he later was promoted many times and worked for them 17 years total.&nbsp; He took a promotion in 1966 to go to Miami FL with the Forum where he met his love, Madeline.&nbsp;&nbsp; They were married on May 7, 1967 in Miami, FL.&nbsp; He took many promotions and traveled as a chef, manager and troubleshooter with the Forum Cafeteria, getting the restaurants in shape and making them profitable.&nbsp; He was saved on July 9, 1972 in Chicago, IL.&nbsp; &nbsp;From that time on, his goal was to get back to his childhood church in Kansas and reunite with his family. &nbsp;&nbsp;He finally took a position to manage a small restaurant, the Hesston Colonial House in 1974, and moved back to Kansas.&nbsp; After a couple of years he moved to Newton, and worked for a year with the MBPXL meat packing plant in Wichita as a butcher.&nbsp;

 In 1977, following the advice of a great man of God he admired, Bro AG Etterman, he took a position as a meat cutter at a small grocery/deli in Newton, called Gillespie’s Market on 1st&nbsp;street.&nbsp; He worked there until it closed in 1988.&nbsp; He was able to share his testimony with many people that shopped there, as well as the people he worked with.&nbsp; He served as Sunday school Superintendent, then Deacon and finally in 1986 became the minister for the Newton Church of God of the Firstborn where he served until his death.&nbsp; He also used his restaurant experience to manage the church kitchen for the annual church conference each year in September and served as the Board Treasurer as well.

He was a hard worker, mowing lawns, working at the church, doing handyman work, anything to make ends meet and to make sure the church was maintained.&nbsp; He always put God 1st&nbsp;in his life, then his church family, then his natural family.&nbsp; He traveled many times a year with the church to revival meetings all over the US and Mexico, he sold bibles and songbooks for the church and loved working for the church, witnessing for the Lord and helping people.&nbsp; He loved playing the mandolin in church, he enjoyed bluegrass gospel music and loved old black and white westerns.&nbsp; He was also famous for using duct tape, silicone and white out to fix just about anything.&nbsp;&nbsp; He did not know a stranger and made sure anyone he talked to knew his testimony and love for the Lord.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Jeff Wheeler, sister-in-law Cindy Meyer, brother-in-law, Cameron Roatch, sister Paula Garms.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, Madeline Meyer and daughter Tina Meyer, 3 step children, Toby Cline, Tamy Cline Bellis, Beverly Cline Slager, 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandson; 11 brothers and sisters:&nbsp; David, Darlene, Kenneth, Candi (Sharon), John, Esther, Wayne, PJ (Peggy), Carl, Alan, Ron, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nephews and nieces and other extended family.

Robert W. “Bob” Wise, age 86, passed away Wednesday, January 6, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City.

Bob was born April 15, 1934 to Jake and Ruth Wise and raised on a farm in Fernald, Iowa. Bob graduated from high school in 1952 and moved to McPherson to attend McPherson College and play football. He received his bachelor’s degree from McPherson College in 1956, married his college sweetheart, Anita McSpadden, and coached football before moving to Washington, DC for law school. He received his law degree, with honors, from George Washington University in 1961. While in law school, he worked as a Special Agent for the Office of Naval Intelligence and was a member of the board of editors of the George Washington University Law Review.

Bob loved the practice of law and his partners and was proud of his firm’s 135 year history. He was an active member of the McPherson law firm Wise &amp; Reber L.C. at his death. He practiced for 60 years in the areas of litigation, business, banking, trusts and estates, arbitration and mediation and never considered retirement. He was past president of the Kansas Bar Association, past chair of the KBA Ethics Grievance Panel, and was a recipient of the KBA’s Professionalism Award, its Outstanding Service Award and the Kansas Bar Foundation Robert K. Weary Award. He was also a past member of the State Board of Law Examiners, Kansas Annual Survey Committee and was a fellow of the Kansas Bar Foundation. Bob was universally respected by Kansas lawyers and represented thousands of clients.

Bob served as an unseen advisor to city and county leaders throughout his career and was instrumental in creating a forward thinking political and business culture in McPherson.

As president of the McPherson Industrial Development Company, (“MIDC”), Bob was instrumental in recruiting two of McPherson’s flagship industries, Sterling Drug, now Pfizer Pharmaceutical, and Johns Manville. Bob served on the MIDC Board for nineteen years and as President for nine years. During his tenure as President, McPherson’s industrial base enjoyed remarkable growth and expansion. Bob also influenced the retail sector with his work on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce as President. Bob has held numerous volunteer positions including President of the McPherson United Way and as a member of the Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. He led a significant hospital expansion as Chair of the New Building Committee.

Bob was a long time champion of local educational institutions, McPherson College and Central Christian College of Kansas. His support and counsel over the decades was recognized by McPherson College with an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree and his induction into Central Christian College’s Academe of Achievers.

He is survived by his wife Anita, son Darrell, grandchildren Erin Holman, Daniel Holman and Shannon Wise, sisters Lu Neher and Betty Wenger, his law partners, and legions of friends and clients. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Holman and parents Jake and Ruth Wise. He was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

She was born March 17, 1924, in Stafford, to Edward and Eleanor Taylor Slade. She was a 1943 graduate of Stafford High School. She was a homemaker, an excellent seamstress and enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds. She was passionate about 4-H, Extension, water aerobics, birds and nature. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, by helping start the program in Gainesville, TX. and at National Wildlife preserves like Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge.

On May 21, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart Edwin Gene Baar in rural Stafford. He died January 3, 1990. Surviving are her children: son, Robert (Brenda) Baar of Joes, CO; two daughters, Kay (Roger) Staats of Gainesville,TX, and Julia (Matthew) Anderson of Alma, KS;&nbsp; a sister-in-law Lois Slade of Bella Vista, AR; six grandsons: Tracy (Nicole) Staats, Brad (Emily) Holliday, Brian (Stacey) Baar, Austin (Jessica) Baar,&nbsp; Lance (Lichelle) Baar, and Mark (Hanna) Anderson; fourteen great-grandchildren: Landon &amp; Camille Staats, Ashton &amp; Aidan Baar, Genesis &amp; Noah Baar, Kyren &amp; Adrian Graves, Tinley &amp; Zayley Baar, Brynn, Ivy, &amp; Ember Anderson, Daphne Holliday and many nieces and nephews. Jeanette Marie Tommer, 78, of Lyons, passed away April 3, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born December 14, 1943, in Dodge City, the daughter of Joseph Clem and Helen Cline Langlois.

 Jeanette has resided in Lyons since 1971, formerly of Kinsley. She graduated from Windhorst High School, Windhorst, with the class of 1961. 

Jeanette was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, CNA and CMA at various local nursing homes, and a Rice County Dispatcher. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and the Sterling American Legion Post #128. 

On August 17, 1963, Jeanette was united in marriage with Richard Tommer, Sr. in Spearville. He survives of the home.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Jeanette Marie Tommer, 78, of Lyons, passed away April 3, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born December 14, 1943, in Dodge City, the daughter of Joseph Clem and Helen Cline Langlois. Jeanette has resided in Lyons since 1971, formerly of Kinsley. She graduated from Windhorst High School, Windhorst, with the class of 1961. Jeanette was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, CNA and CMA at various local nursing homes, and a Rice County Dispatcher. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, and the Sterling American Legion Post #128. On August 17, 1963, Jeanette was united in marriage with Richard Tommer, Sr. in Spearville. He survives of the home. Stacy Alan Base, 55, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side, into the arms of his Lord, on March 31, 2022 at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on October 25, 1966 in Hutchinson, the son of Duane and Mary ( Goertzen) Base.

Stacy graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1985.&nbsp; Stacy worked for Dillon's Warehouse refrigeration foods for 13 years, where he made numerous friends that he considered extended family. Stacy's favorite things to do were spending as much time with his grandkids as possible.&nbsp; Watching or attending Nascar, and concerts.&nbsp; Music was a big part of his life.&nbsp; He was a walking encyclopedia when it came to sports history and facts.

He is survived by his wife Dee (Tissue) ( Stucky) Base; sister, Shelly&nbsp; ( Randy) Berner; daughter, Alisha ( Jeremy) Lucerro; step-daughter, Maegan ( Cody) Lobban; step-son, Bryce Stucky; grandchildren, Crevan and Killian Lucerro; step-grandchildren, Keller and Jace Lobban; first wife, Dana (Diggs) Blanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Amy; grandparents, father-in-law, Kevin Starks.

Irene attended Nickerson High School.&nbsp; She married Kenneth Smith Sr. on June 29, 1950 in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Irene was a homemaker and attended Westside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; a grandson, Jermiah J. Smith; son-in-law, Scott Cunningham; three brothers; one sister; three sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law. William ‘Will’ Frank Ruckle, 80, passed away April 1, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born August 23, 1941, in Wichita, to Frank and Melba (Barricklow) Ruckle.

Will lived on a farm south of Cheney for 42 years, before moving to Hutchinson 10 years ago.&nbsp; He was the owner of Ruckle Manufacturing, where he worked as a machinist and tool builder.&nbsp; Will was known as a ‘jack-of-all-trades’.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and bowling.&nbsp; Will could also be found watching Westerns on the television.&nbsp; He loved to work in the garden and his yard was his ‘pride and joy’.&nbsp; Will spent many hours on his various activities, but the time that he most cherished was when he was spending time with the family, especially the grandkids.

On October 1, 1960, Will married Janet Faye Huenergardt, in Wichita.&nbsp; They shared over 61 years of marriage.

Will is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Janet Ruckle of Hutchinson; children, Kenny (Linda) Ruckle of Burrton; and Teri (Gary) Eckhoff of Hutchinson; grandsons, A. J. Eckhoff of Lenexa; and Daniel (Paige) Eckhoff of Salina; granddaughter, Amy Malcom of Wichita; great-grandson, Owen Eckhoff; great-granddaughters, Amyah, Ariauna, and Aleana Malcom; brothers, Ricky Ruckle of Oregon; and Marvin (Cindy) Ruckle of Wichita; sisters, Judy (Dave) Stolzheise of Wichita; and Gail Ruckle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Van Asselt, 76, of Hutchinson, passed away in his home, Friday, April 1, 2022. He was born January 7, 1946, in Zeeland, Michigan and graduated from Grand Haven High School. David moved to Hutchinson with his family in 1979.

David was co-owner and head salesman for Lea J. Alan Enterprises, Inc. in Newton. He was an avid golfer, die-hard Michigan Wolverines fan, and loved his home and family.

He is survived by: his wife, Linda, Hutchinson; five daughters, Kimberly McClain (Steve), Statham, GA; Bobbi Van Asselt Strayer, Lawrence; Stephanie Dawes (Craig), Buhler; Susanne Krishna (Mohan), Bellevue, NE; Abigail Bynum (Darrell), Powder Springs, GA; brothers, Walter (Jan), Gladstone, MO; Karl (Margaret), Durham, NH; grandchildren, Zachary, Zeke, Seth, Jacob, Logan, Dylan, Kevin, Mallory, Cameron, Cullen, Maverick, Mackenzie; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Walter and Alyda; daughter, Stacy; and grandchild, Remington.

Joe Whitmore was born on March 10, 1933, in Newton, to Roy William Whitmore and Mary Agnes (Lintner). 

He peacefully went home to the Lord on March 28, 2020, in Richardson, Texas following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty whom he married in 1990, his son Frederick (Fred) Whitmore and wife Leslie, his daughter Ann Mercado and husband Caesar, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Joe is also survived by Betty’s children Charles (Ronnie) Robison and Judy Wittenback, four step-grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His sister Erma Lou Noll predeceased him in 2012. Joe had an idyllic childhood growing up in Potwin. He graduated from Potwin High School in the class of 1951. On March 10, 1953, he married Joyce Vogelman and they had two children, Fred and Ann. He achieved the rank of Corporal in the Army during the Korean War. Joe graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Business Administration. After college graduation, Joe then took over the family business in Potwin, Whitmore Hardware and Lumber, which was established by his grandfather John Oliver Whitmore in 1909. Joe’s retail career transitioned into the agriculture business as he and his father sold hybrid corn and sorghum field seeds to local farmers with the Garst and Pioneer seed companies. In 1973, the company moved the family to Garden City, Kansas, where he served as District and Regional Sales Manager for the Garst Production Plant. In 1987, Joe moved to Richardson, Texas to be near his two children and to assist Fred, his son, in his mortgage company. In 1990, he married Betty (Thompson) Robison. Throughout his life, Joe was devoted to showing and sharing the love and compassion of our Lord. He was baptized in his youth at the Potwin Christian Church. He was an active member and greatly enjoyed serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher of the Potwin and Garden City Christian churches as well as the United Disciples Christian Church in Richardson. Joe and Betty also volunteered for many years at Methodist Richardson Medical Center. He especially enjoyed delivering cards and flowers to the patients. In his spare time, Joe was a loyal fan of sports. He played baseball and basketball during his years in high school. As an adult, one of his favorite past-times was golf. Every Wednesday, he enjoyed playing a good round with his buddies until very late in life. The family would like to thank The Plaza at Richardson staff that helped Betty take such great care of him during his final years.

Joe’s family will gather with friends at McGill Cemetery, Potwin, Kansas on Saturday April 23, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. for a graveside service.
