George Edwin Childs, 92, passed away May 5, 2022, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born January 8, 1930, in Carroll County, MO, to Raymond and Allie (Melvin) Childs.

George graduated from Tina High School, Tina, MO.&nbsp; He was employed by Decker &amp; Mattison Co., Inc., Hutchinson, for over 30 years, and then worked with his son at Child’s Electric Heating &amp; Air, Inc., Hutchinson.&nbsp; George was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On October 29, 1950, he married Bonnie Violet Ferguson, in Colby.&nbsp; They shared over 69 years of marriage, prior to her death on January 31, 2020.

George is survived by:&nbsp; his children, Betty (Roy) Cox of Council Grove, Jim (Kris) Childs of Bruceton Mills, WV; David (Susie) Childs of Hutchinson, and Dan (Carla) Childs of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Thomas of Chillicothe, MO; and best friend, Del Fesler of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; wife; daughter, Glenda Meadows; grandson, Corey Meadows; brothers, Billy Childs, Tommy Childs, Warren Childs, Walter Childs, and Raymond Childs; and sister, Margie Lowe.

Jeanette Lee Stump, 104, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at The Cedars in McPherson.

She was born January 13, 1918, in Gibbon, Oklahoma (Grant County) to Jerry Simpson and Dorothy Pearl (Aves) Slaughter.&nbsp; Jeanette graduated from high school in Perryton, Texas, attended Oklahoma Baptist University, and received a BA degree in Education from McPherson College in 1959.&nbsp;

She married Harley H. Stump on Aug. 23, 1937, at Thomas, Oklahoma. Harley preceded her in death on Dec. 2,1996.

Jeanette, Harley, and their two sons, Harl and Nelson, moved to McPherson in August, 1957.&nbsp; Harley was professor of English and Literature at McPherson College.&nbsp; In 1959, Jeanette started teaching fifth grade at Wickersham School.&nbsp; The remaining years were spent at Park and Washington Schools, retiring in 1983.&nbsp;

Harley was a Church of the Brethren minister in his earlier years, and Jeanette fulfilled the many duties of a minister’s wife and was the church organist.&nbsp; Together, they served churches in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Kansas.&nbsp; Jeanette has been a resident of The Cedars since 2008.

Jeanette was an active member of several state and local teacher’s organizations and was a life member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.&nbsp; She was also an active member of the Church of the Brethren since 1937. &nbsp;One of her more memorable life experiences was when she and Harley went around the world as part of Campus Afloat in 1969.

In her spare time, Jeanette enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with friends. &nbsp;

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.&nbsp; Jeanette always enjoyed hearing the activities of her family who always felt her warm and supportive personality or approach.&nbsp; She had many friends from co-workers and former students.

Survivors include: a son, Dr. Harl Stump (LaVena) of Hays, Kansas; two grandsons, Stephen Stump (Lisa) of St. Louis, Missouri and Phillip Stump (Ellen) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and six great-grandchildren, Curtis Stump, Brent Stump, Kevin Stump, Mark Stump, Elizabeth Stump, and Sarah Stump.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; a son, Nelson E. Stump; a brother, Dean Slaughter; and a sister, Jerrille Slaughter.

Victor Herman Kaufman, 97, passed away May 3, 2022 at Pine Village Retirement Home, Moundridge.

Victor H. Kaufman was born to Albert Kaufman and Anna Graber on February 19, 1925 in Pretty Prairie.&nbsp; He was raised on a farm and loved hunting and fishing.&nbsp; He also loved horses and learned the meaning of hard work.

On December 21, 1947 he married Joan Hanselman in Burrton.&nbsp; Their marriage lasted over 71 years.

This union resulted in the birth of four children:

Billy R. Kaufman Gary L. Kaufman Vickie E. Hurd Michael E. Kaufman

Victor was one of nine children.&nbsp; Victor was the last one to pass away of the nine kids and parents.

We also lost our youngest brother Michael and wife Delinda in a accident.

The union of Vic and Joan also produced seven grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Victor loved unconditionally and treated everyone with respect and honesty.&nbsp; He was a gentleman and hard worker.

Cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at a later date.

Elizabeth “Diane” Stinson, 63, died May 2, 2022, at Hutchinson Health &amp; Rehab. She was born February 17, 1959, in Atlanta, GA, to Miles A. “Mike” and Myrtice I. (Tuggle) Stinson.

A Hutchinson resident since 2017, having moved from the Timbers in Wichita where Diane had lived for 38 years. She was a huge Chiefs and Royals fan, enjoyed coloring, crafts, playing Bingo and other card games, and listening to music. Diane was also a good listener.

She is survived by: her sister, Debbie Downing (Gary) of Hutchinson; nieces: Jamie Razak, Amanda Love; great-nephews; Cameron Collins, Kenneth Rizak; great-niece, Abby Razak; bonus nieces and nephews, Ammie, Jeremiah, and Charity Downing.

Diane was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Sheila Basham; and brother, David Stinson.

Virginia Beth Feerer, 94, of Hutchinson, passed away Monday, May 3, 2022, at Hospice House of Hutchinson.&nbsp;

She was born February 15, 1928, at Glen Elder, to Major De and Bessie (Slaven) Vint.&nbsp;&nbsp; The youngest of 7 children, Beth attended a country school near her grandfather’s homestead, where she was raised, and graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1945.&nbsp; She then attended Manhattan Bible College, in Manhattan, where she met Virgil Carl Feerer.&nbsp; They were married at the college chapel on August 20, 1946. &nbsp;Virgil was ordained into the Christian ministry with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Beth was a full partner in his ministries for the next 45 years.

Together, they served the Oak Grove Christian Church in Monticello, IN, while Virgil was attending Butler School of Religion.&nbsp; &nbsp;In Kansas, they served churches in Attica, Conway Springs, Girard, Madison, Beloit, Hiawatha and Osborne.&nbsp; They served the Tipton/Latham, Missouri Pastoral Unity for 2 years until Virgil’s death in 1991.

After her husband’s passing, Beth continued as a Christian (Disciples) minister on her own, serving as chaplain at Lenoir in Columbia, Missouri.&nbsp; She served as a supply pastor around Columbia for a time, and then as pastor at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church near Higbee, MO. Beth moved in retirement to Bella Vista, AR for a time before settling in Hutchinson, to be near her daughter, Elizabeth and family.

She was a 61-year member of PEO, most recently Chapter BL, and a member of Park Place Christian Church in Hutchinson at the time of her death. Beth was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in recent months especially enjoyed her great-great-grandson.

She and Virgil were the loving parents of four children: Virgil Vint Feerer, Warren Carl Feerer (Pam), Elizabeth Faye Kellogg, and Marjorie Elaine Dickson (Lynn), and they survive.&nbsp; Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, &nbsp;Sherri McNeel,&nbsp; Delia Feerer (Gana Kodira), Stacy Sebby (Mike), Trent Svoboda, Jeff Kellogg (Crimson), Michael Kellogg (Alyssa Davidson), Jon Ashley Kellogg, Adam Popp, &nbsp;Lucas Dickson (Amber), Corrine Dickson, and Aundrea Kleinhagen (Chuck); nineteen great-grandchildren, Onjya Gadbois (Josh), Lexi Pedley, Micaela Sebby, Jessica Sebby, Cappra Svoboda, Braeden Svoboda, Avery Kellogg (Lexxi), Alex Butler, Skylar Butler, AnnMayre Kellogg, Braeden Kellogg, Levi Dickson, Miles Dickson, Ky’Andre Miller, Kosse Miller, Kingston Miller, Alison Kleinhagen, Amelia Kleinhagen, and Charlie Kleinhagen; one great-great-grandson, Hayden Avery Kellogg; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was predeceased by: her parents; husband, Virgil; son-in-law, Bill Kellogg; great-grandson, Kaleb Miller; and her six siblings and their spouses, John Vint (Wilma), Duane Vint (Lucile), Marjorie Porter (Ernest), Dorothy McKinney (Vaden), Vinton Vint (Louise), and Emily Gales; and nieces and nephews.

Virginia Beth Feerer  |1928-2022|  

Vickie’s life began on May 19, 1924, in rural Grant Township in Marion County. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Oborny) Stika. 

Vickie attended the Youngtown School in rural Marion County. She was united in marriage to John E. Smolik on September 30, 1946, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Vickie was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband John on the family farm.&nbsp; Vickie spent numerous hours tending to her large vegetable garden and flower gardens.&nbsp; Every year she canned ample food for her family to enjoy over the winter months.&nbsp; She is remembered most for her Czech heritage in her baking of kolache and rolicke plus numerous other family favorite recipes.&nbsp; Not only was her baking enjoyed by her family but sought out by others in the community.&nbsp; Her grandchildren and great grandchildren all loved to spend time with her in the kitchen learning all her techniques.&nbsp; She enjoyed polka music and polka dancing in her free time. Vickie was a member of the St Mark’s Holy Family Catholic Church and a very active member of St. Mark’s Altar Society serving on the funeral dinner committee for decades.&nbsp; She thoroughly enjoyed the St. Mark’s quilting circle.&nbsp; Vickie was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Marion.

Her greatest joy was her family which includes daughters Theresa Linton of Phillipsburg, and Kathy ( Paul) Swan of Marion; grandchildren Ashley (Wes) Delaney of Phillipsburg, Lacey (Randall) Beaver of Hays, Katrina (Justin) Griffin of Strong City, and Becky (Tim) Makovec of Marion; great grandchildren Zackary Delaney, Wyatt Delaney, Leah Beaver, Kandace (Stuart) Wakeman and Kassady Griffin, Morgan (Dustin) Looney, and Tyler Makovec; great great grandchildren Ava and Emrie Looney; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Eleanor R. Nickel passed away May 5, 2020, at her home at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton. Eleanor Ruth Schmidt was born January 11, 1932, in Meno, Oklahoma, the daughter of August and Esther Schmidt. From her earliest days, Eleanor was a curious child and an avid reader, beginning to read at the age of three. Her family remembers her as a loving sister and mother, who was deeply proud of each person’s individual accomplishments. Eleanor loved to read, knit, crochet, create original recipes, try new things, listen to classical music, walk, reminisce about family history, and travel. She was a strong woman and role model, who did not let the expectations of her generation define her.

Eleanor graduated with her degree in Nursing from Bethel College in 1956, and married Bennet K. Nickel a few months later at Sister Frieda Chapel in Newton on August 25. She received her master’s degree in Medical Surgical Nursing from the University of Iowa in 1973.

Eleanor was a highly respected professional, working in in-service education at St. Francis Hospital and heading an oncology unit at St. Joseph Hospital. She taught nursing at both Bethel Deaconess Hospital and Hesston College. She also served on the Board of Bethel Deaconess Hospital and helped direct the merger of Axtell and Bethel Deaconess Hospitals into Newton Medical Center.

Eleanor was a founding member of Faith Mennonite and Shalom Mennonite Churches. She was a four-time volunteer at 10,000 Villages Warehouse in Akron, Pennsylvania. Her faith was enormously important to her as both a source of joy and solace during difficult times. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Jean and Jim Weber of Newton, Jim and Becky Nickel of Peabody, Sandra and Andreas Schlaepfer of Chexbres, Switzerland; her brothers, Wilbur and Arlene Schmidt, and James Schmidt; her grandchildren, Jeff and Sara Weber, Julia Weber, Martin Hofkamp and Audrey Thill, Sarah Hofkamp, and Olivia Schlaepfer; her great-grandchildren, Kinzie Weber, Kaden Weber-Gonzalez, Kaylynn Weber, and Ben Weber; and her great-great-grandson, Dominic Weber. Marian Alice Youmans, 97, formerly of Hays, died April 29, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born March 18, 1925, in Kansas City, to William and Adalia (Winters) Schoenfeld.

Marian graduated from Wyandotte High School, Baker University, Bethany Hospital nursing program and completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Wichita State University.&nbsp; She worked as a registered nurse for over 44 years.&nbsp; Marian’s passion was helping her patients and mentoring nursing students.&nbsp; Marian worked for Hadley Hospital, Hays, before joining the faculty at Fort Hays State University as a nursing instructor. She eventually served as Acting Dean for the School of Nursing a year before she retired in 1990. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the hospital.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Marian loved gardening, cats, and traveling, especially to the Grand Canyon, where she,&nbsp;husband Ray,&nbsp;and family, rode the mules to the bottom.&nbsp; Marian was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, Kansas Nurses Association, and American Nurses Association.&nbsp; She attended First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hays, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. In 1964, Marian and her family spent a year in Liberia, West Africa, serving with the United Methodist Board of Missions. In her retirement, she and Ray&nbsp;enjoyed traveling extensively by rail and attended educational programs through the Elder Hostel program.

On December 16, 1951, she married Raymond E. “Ray” Youmans, in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; He died January 17, 2018, after sharing 66 years of marriage. &nbsp;

Marian is survived by:&nbsp; children, Barbara Youmans of Hutchinson, and William Raymond Youmans (Joan) of Centennial, CO; granddaughter, Kylie Youmans Lahey (Adam) of Austin, TX; brother-in-law, Ron Youmans and niece, Jane Foerster (John, deceased), both of Milwaukee, WI; and beloved cat, KoKo. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from Ray's side of the family.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents and twin-sister, Mildred Adalia Youmans. Marian and Mildred were both “Youmans” because the twins married&nbsp;brothers.

Michael Anthony Payne died May 4, 2022, at his home in Newton, Kansas. Michael was born March 27, 1966 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Elvis and Dorthy Payne.

Michael received an education in welding technologies, and he continued to weld until his health started to decline. While Michael was employed in welding, he met Wanda Ivy and the two hand fasted and enjoyed their years together.

He is survived by his life partner Wanda Ivy, one son David Payne, two brothers, Kenneth Payne and J.T. (Leaha) Payne, one sister, Linda Freese.

Lloyd Hendry and Kathryn (Murphy) Hendry.&nbsp; The family moved to Kansas where she was a graduate of Newton High School Class of 1953 and Wesley School of Nursing Class of 1957. 

On June 21, 1958 Muriel married the love of her life Charles W. Schlicher.&nbsp; She was an RN, Charge Nurse and one of the first Oncology Nurses. She retired from St. Francis Hospital after 30 years of nursing in Wichita, Kansas.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, floral gardening, and pie making was her specialty.&nbsp; Her great love for family and spending time with them was of great importance.&nbsp; Yet Muriel's greatest love was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, serving Him through ministering to so many people while in the medical field.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mark Douglas Kennedy, 68, of McPherson, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022 at his residence. Mark was born in McPherson, Kansas on January 14, 1954, son of Eleanor Marie (Erickson) and Cleo Leon "Bill" Kennedy. Mark attended Lincoln Elementary School, Park School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson Senior High School, McPherson, in 1972. Mark attended New Gottland Lutheran Church in McPherson. Through the years Mark worked in maintenance at N.C.R.A, McPherson, Kansas until he retired. He then worked for Hazelton Farm, McPherson, in many capacities. Mark was a long time member along with his father of the McPherson County Bass Club. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved being outdoors, grilling, and cooking, helping people, gardening, being part of the Boy Scout Community Troop 133 and spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his siblings, Colleen Bruce and her husband Dan, of Galva, Kansas., Jolene Kennedy, of Dexter, Missouri and Scott Kennedy, of McPherson, Kansas; other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mark was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved being outdoors, grilling, and cooking, helping people, gardening, being part of the Boy Scout Community Troop 133 and spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his siblings, Colleen Bruce and her husband Dan, of Galva, Kansas., Jolene Kennedy, of Dexter, Missouri and Scott Kennedy, of McPherson, Kansas; other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mark was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson. Euvona “Sue” Andrews, 80, of Chase, Kansas, passed away May 1, 2022, at her home. She was born June 28, 1941, in rural Chase, the daughter of Claude F. and Dorothy M. Bortz Kizzar. 

Sue was a lifelong Chase resident. She attended Chase High School. Sue was an operator at Northern Natural Gas for many years. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Chase, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Sue married Elvis Lee Andrews and they later divorced. 

Sue is preceded in death by her parents; significate other of more than 30 years, Dennis Sheldon; son, Elvis Lee Andrews II; brother, Jim Kizzar; and two sisters, Claudette Kizzar Dugan and Shirley Kizzar Owen. She is survived by her two sons, Cody Andrews and Monte Joe Andrews both of Chase; brother, Frank Kizzar and wife Valerie of Jal, NM; and brother-in-law, Johnny Mack Owen; sister-in-law, Babe Kizzar; two grandsons, Tony Andrews and wife Jessica and Kacey Andrews both of Lyons; four granddaughters, Michelle Mawhirter and husband Cole, Erica Baird and husband Austin of Pratt, Victoria Clark and husband Garrett of Wichita, and Ashley Weberg and husband Kyle; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Walter ‘Gene’ Eugene Bridgess, 95, passed away May 2, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler.&nbsp; He was born February 21, 1927, in Hutchinson, to John Walter and Gertrude June (Newlon) Bridgess.

Gene was a 1945 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Gene was the Director of Produce for Dillon Stores, retiring in 1990 with over 45 years of service.

He enjoyed wood carving, gardening, and being outdoors.&nbsp; Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman.

On June 3, 1951, he married Carol Lola Ging, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 67 years of marriage, prior to her death on December 17, 2018.

Gene is survived by:&nbsp; his children, Thomas Bridgess of Hutchinson, Anita Baker and husband Wayne of Colorado Springs, CO, and Scott Bridgess of Pottsboro, TX; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Juanita Rothweiler of Derby.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Avandre Alexander Jones, 21, formerly of Hutchinson, died all too soon on May 1, 2022, at his home in Wichita.&nbsp; He was born July 19, 2000, in Hutchinson, to Eric Lamonte and Heather Anne (Ochs) Jones.

Avandre graduated from Hutchinson High School in 2018.&nbsp; For almost three years, he worked as a machinist for Mid-Kansas Machine, Inc., in McPherson.&nbsp; In his spare time, Avandre enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, fishing, taking spontaneous trips, gaming, and his cats. &nbsp;He was blessed with a loving close-knit family.&nbsp; In April, Avandre, and his two siblings spent 32 hours together driving to and from Florida for some special sibling time.&nbsp; During this mini-vacation, memories were made that will last a lifetime for his sister and brother.&nbsp;&nbsp; Avandre adored his one-year-old nephew, Luka Alexander, and was a proud and doting uncle.

Harold Michael ‘Mike’ Alfers, 69, owner-publisher of the Rural Messenger and a longtime Kansas newspaper executive, died Friday, April 29, at his home in Haven.&nbsp; He&nbsp;had battled pancreatic cancer.&nbsp; Mike, who established the Rural Messenger in August 2004, had been a strong, but quiet presence in the Kansas newspaper industry for more than 40 years.

He was born December 19, 1952, in St. Joseph, MO.&nbsp; Mike married Dena Perkins on August 14, 1971 (they later divorced), and served in the United States Air Force from 1971-1975, including an assignment in Madrid, Spain.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents, Harold and Catherine Alfers; brothers, Patrick Alfers and Curtis Alfers; and sister, Jacque Jacobs.&nbsp;

Bruce Cole, 99, died May 1, 2022 just 27 days shy of his

War II serving from 1941 to 1951. He had six years active duty and another four
in Navy Reserves. He was on several ships during active duty and several
different jobs. He married Helen (Dolly) Kahler in 1949. They never had a
family of their own but had many nieces and nephews that filled that missing
piece in their lives. He was a machinist at Krause Plow and Masters in
Hutchinson. He worked and retired from Gardner Denver in Colorado where they
lived for many years before moving back to Hutchinson.

He came from a family of 12 kids.
He is survived by one sister, Dorothy L Gradick, of Falon,

Nevada. He was preceded in death
by six brothers, Thomas Quincy, William, Lester Franklin, Arthur Thomas Jr.,
Fred, and George; four sister, Ivy Viola Ross, Naomi Pauline Birt Bottoms,
Winifred Elizabeth (Betty) Swepston and Christina Buck Puckett.

A graveside service will be held on May 11, 2022

She was a past member of Abundant Harvest Church of the Nazarene and Friends Women. She enjoyed shopping for bargains, traveling, painting, gambling, bowling, doing word search puzzles, taking family to dinner and spending time with her family especially grandchildren. Jim married Ella Mae (Woods) Bettes on June 19, 1964 in Burdett. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2007. Jim enjoyed attending auctions, making model cars and watching movies. He is survived by his grandchildren, Christina Hylton of La Crosse, Kayla Hylton of La Crosse, Ivan Hurley of Wichita, Autumn and Thomas Bettes; son, Paul Bettes of Colorado; sisters, Mary Thompson of Dodge City and Nancy Garland of California; brothers, Alvin Bettes of Eucha, Oklahoma and Kenneth (Becky) Bettes of Pratt; and great grandchildren, Cherish and Kristian McAlister and Lana Waters, Scott Arnold and Andrew Mauer. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joyce Hurley; brothers, Donnie Bettes and Clyde Bettes; and sister, Peggy Sommers. Cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Daniel (Dan) Edward Nichols was born on December 16, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri. Dan was the oldest of his siblings, Michael, Russell, and Star.

Dan joined the Navy in January 1970, where he served as an HT3-Hull Technician, Third Class. He did welding and maintenance on the USS Samuel Gompers until his honorable discharge in January 1976.

Dan had a career at Rocky Flats and had many job titles, starting out as a janitor and worked his way up to becoming a health and safety physicist in Denver, Colorado, in 1974, until his retirement in 1995. After retirement, he worked as a local truck driver pulling a reefer. Dan also worked for the State of Nebraska, where he held many roles including rest area maintenance, snow plow driver, and was a member of the road crew.

On November 21, 1987, he was united in marriage to Marguerite WandaLee (Susan) Howard. To this union came 2 children, Daniel Edward Nichols II in 1989, and Kristin Marie Nichols in 1992. Dan was a loving father to their two children and loving husband to his wife, Susan. Together they made many memories and enjoyed vacations at Glenwood Springs and Mount Rushmore. They resided in Thornton, Colorado, and Sidney, Nebraska, before their final move to Newton, Kansas, in 2008.

Dan loved the Lord and faithfully served Him. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after being baptized with his wife on September 17, 1995, in Sidney, Nebraska. He served as an elder and received his temple recommend and endowment at the Kansas City Missouri Temple, with the help of his daughter Kristin, in 2014. He baptized his daughter-in-law, Emily, at the Bear Creek Ward in Denver, Colorado in 2020. His last calling was building representative. He cleaned the church every week and made sure that it was maintained properly, until his diagnosis of cancer in 2022.

Dan loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. His children often turned to him for advice, and they say that he gave the best hugs. He always encouraged his children to read their scriptures, pray, and ask Heavenly Father when in need of help or comfort or when in pain and sorrow.

Dan departed this life on May 1, 2022, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan, and his sister, Star.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Daniel Nichols (Emily) of Winfield, Kansas; daughter, Kristin Ludwig (Kyler) of Ceder Hills, Utah; two brothers, Russell Nichols (Debbie) and Michael Nichols, both of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren: Nathanial, Tsar, Shah, Reina, and Chancellor; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, and fellow members of the Newton ward.

A celebration of life will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, at the LDS Church in Newton.

Patricia Jane Hostetler, 76, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 3:11 a.m., Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at Via Christi ,St. Francis , Wichita.

Patricia was born in Stafford, on May 6, 1945, a daughter of Mabel (Chiles) and Robert Claire Jimison. Pat attended Stafford grade school and graduated from Stafford High School, Stafford, in 1963. She then attended and graduated from Emporia State College, Emporia, Kansas with her Bachelors Degree in Business. Through the years Pat worked for N.C.R.A, McPherson, Kansas, Johnson Music Center and Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson. Pat enjoyed Kansas State sports especially football, reading, ,music, camping, traveling, going on little adventures with her daughters, her pets and spending time with her friends and family. Patricia J. Jimison was united in marriage to Lynn Hostetler on March 14, 1971 in Stafford, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Inman, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Deborah and Diane. She is survived by her children, Deborah Hostetler, of McPherson, and Diane Walters and her husband Darren, of Beloit; her brother, Conrad Jimison, of Overland Park. Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lynn Hostetler. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at North Inman Cemetery in Inman, Kansas with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating.
