Brittney Brooke Ann “Britt” “Britty” Bishop, 22, died June 5, 2022. She was born May 8, 2000, in Hutchinson, to William “Willie” R. and Jennifer J. (McCoy) Bishop.

Brittney graduated from Hutchinson High School in 2018. She worked as a CMA and CNA at Pleasant View Home in Inman and traveled to other area nursing homes. Brittney was passionate about caring for the elderly and had a heart of gold. She was selfless and would help anyone in need, even a stranger. Her smile would light up any room she walked into and her laugh was contagious. Brittney enjoyed driving, singing, writing, and doing crafts. She loved her family above everything else and will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, bravery, intelligence, humor, and beauty, among so many other incredible qualities.

Brittney is survived by: her parents, Willie and Jennifer Bishop; sister, Taylor Bishop; brothers, Tyson and Marcus Bishop, all of Hutchinson; grandmothers, Joann McCoy and Beverly Tubbs; great-grandmother, Wendy Brayton, all of Hutchinson; grandparents, Clarence and Alice Maple of Halstead; uncles, Jason McCoy, James Bishop (Christine), Jermaine Bishop (Brittany), all of Hutchinson; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harold McCoy.

Orletta Fern Brandt (Heide) Wiebe went to be with Jesus on June 8, 2022, at the age of 91. Orletta enjoyed music (never missing a chance to sing 4-part harmony with friends and family), sports (attending and streaming countless football, basketball and volleyball games), reading (bringing books to share with her grandchildren and also reading to challenge herself) traveling to see family (navigating many road trips with her sister, Joyce), gathering with friends, and sharing her faith in God. Orletta’s life began on March 25, 1931, at Hillsboro, Kansas, born to William P. and Lillian (Bartel) Brandt. After 7 days her mother died, leaving her father with 2 sons, ages 2 &amp; 3 and a newborn (Orletta). She was received and nurtured in the home of Henry H. and Linda (Penner) Bartel until her father married Anna Ewert. Orletta’s new mom was loved dearly by all of her instant family. Soon another son, Franklin, joined the family, but lived only 6 months. Later 3 sisters, Pearl, Darlene, and Joyce and a brother John joined the family.&nbsp; Orletta’s education began at Lehigh, Kansas. Because of family moves, she also attended 3 different rural schools. At 13 years of age she was baptized and joined the Johannestal Mennonite Church. After graduating from Hillsboro High School she attended Tabor College for one year. It was there that Orletta was challenged to serve as a volunteer under MCC. Her 2 years of service included one year at the office of the National Service Board for Religious Objectors in Washington, D.C. After her 2nd year at MCC in Akron, PA, she entered nurses training at Bethel College and Bethel Deaconess Hospital, graduating in 1957.&nbsp; Her first work experience as a nurse was at Beatrice Mennonite Hospital, Beatrice, NE. Several years later she returned to Newton KS to work at Prairie View Mental Health Center. It was there she met and married Marvin Heide, a Mt. Lake, MN native, on September 4, 1960. After living in Mt. Lake for a year, where she worked in the Mennonite Hospital, they moved to Hillsboro, KS, and were blessed with 4 children: Jerold, Carolyn, Dennis and Kendall. During the next 10 years Orletta worked at a clinic and at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro.&nbsp; They lived in Beatrice, NE, from 1972-1974, where Orletta worked in a Mental Health Clinic.&nbsp; In 1973 they moved back to Hillsboro where Marvin became owner and operator of Hillsboro Equipment, Inc. They were active members of Trinity Mennonite Church, serving as deacons and youth leaders. Orletta was chosen as the first woman deacon in their church, and with God’s grace was able to minister along with others. She returned to Prairie View, working in the children’s program.&nbsp; In 1979 Orletta’s husband, Marvin, passed away from cancer. She became a single mother of an 11, 14, 16 and 17 year-old. A year or so later she began working for the Marion County Health Dept., later becoming the director. She proudly saw all 4 children graduate from Bethel College. Through a mutual friend, Orletta was introduced to John Wiebe. John lived and worked in Winnipeg, Manitoba as Conference Minister in the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba. Following the leading of their hearts (and a sense of God’s leading) and family support, John and Orletta were married on March 19, 1988. The following 22 years Orletta lived in Winnipeg, where she also was received by 3 stepchildren, Gerald, Barry and Cindy, and one grandchild, Alex. There Orletta chose to join the Bethel Mennonite Church, serving in a variety of ways. For a number of years she was in a group that met to pray and contemplate once a week, a very enriching experience which continued to challenge her prayer life. Orletta was encouraged to enter the Pastoral Care Ministry under the umbrella of the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba. Following a year of training and classes Orletta served for 10 years in ministering at St. Boniface Hospital. In 2009, John passed away and Orletta moved back to Kansas, to live at Kidron Bethel Village, joining many friends from her past and gaining many new ones. Living there offered many opportunities to grow spiritually, joining a prayer group and numerous book discussions. Orletta said,“Reading, cooking, and traveling were some of my favorite activities. Having been blessed with relatively good health, I daily pray with thankfulness. Great is your faithfulness, God.” Orletta was preceded in death by her parents, William, Lillian (Bartel) and Anna (Ewert) Brandt, two husbands, Marvin Heide and John F. Wiebe, brother, Eldon &amp; wife Anny Brandt, sister-in-law Grace (Ewert) Brandt, brothers-in-law Bill Colhoff, John McConnel, sister, Darlene and husband Lewis Haney, and brother-in-law Richard Barkman. On November 22, 2000, she married Michael Steven Heath, in Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;Amy enjoyed flowers, word search puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.

Amy is survived by:&nbsp; husband, Michael; children, Tommy W. LaMunyon, Brandi LaMunyon, and Corey A. Sherman; grandchildren, Manana Sherman and Donta LaMunyon; mother, Mary Margaret Arnett; brother, Robert B. Arnett (Jocleyan); aunts, Patricia Teel and Anita P. David Wayne Poor, 65, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022 in Douglass.

David was born in Long Beach, California to Violet Mae (Turner) Poor and James Lafeyette Poor, Sr. He was a long-time resident of Wichita and Douglass, Kansas. He attended East High School, Wichita, Kansas. He worked at Boeing Aircraft until he was disabled by a cerebral hemorrhage in 1980. Prior to that he also completed 6 years in the Army National Guard, activated during two crises; The El Dorado flooding and the Kansas Firefighters Labor Strike in September of 1978. He received a Kansas National Guard Service medal and a Kansas State Emergency Duty Service Ribbon. He enjoyed working on cars, watching television, drinking coffee with his friends and fishing.

David is survived by his children, Jackie Utz of Wichita; Jeremy Poor (Lisa)&nbsp;of Grand Junction, CO;&nbsp;and Marisa Newfelt (Chris) of Wichita; his two sisters, Donna Kay Haberle of El Dorado Springs, MO and Carmel Poor of Wichita, KS; grandchildren include: Alyssa Hutsell (Curtis) of Derby; Devin Utz of Mulvane; Tommy, Johnny &amp; Joey Poor, all of Grand Junction, Co; great grandchildren include: Connor Shurtleff and Alaina Hutsell, both of Derby; cousins: Jody Turner (Sonya) of Douglass, and Randy Turner; and friends.

Sally Jane Oberle, 71, of Ellsworth, died June 8, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born September 24, 1950, in Haven, to Harry Berton and Vera Irene (Glover) Edwards.&nbsp;

Sally graduated from Holyrood High School and trade school to become a dental hygienist.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and loved her family very much.&nbsp; She had an unwavering faith in God and enjoyed In Touch Ministries with Charles Stanley and The 700 Club. Sally enjoyed reading, the family pets (which were her children), and visiting with family and loved friends.&nbsp; She loved to send cards and spent countless hours searching for just the perfect card (color, verse, and picture) to send to her family and friends.&nbsp; Above all, Sally was extremely proud of her two grandsons, Luke and Joseph.&nbsp; While the grandsons were in school, Sally and Norman stayed busy traveling to their sporting events, and cheering for them. &nbsp;They were her pride and joy.

On September 27, 1969, she married Norman Andrew Oberle, in Bushton.&nbsp; They shared almost 53 years of marriage.

Sally is survived by:&nbsp; husband, Norman; son, Andrew Oberle (Melissa), all of Ellsworth; grandsons, Luke Oberle (Gentry) of Goddard and Joseph Oberle (Alexandra) of Beloit; great-grandson, William Oberle, with two more great-grandchildren to join the Oberle family in 2022; sister, Marilyn Sue Patterson of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; brothers, Harry Edwards, Bill Edwards, and Bob Edwards; and sisters, Carolyn Evans and Peggy Green.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2022, at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery located on East 8th&nbsp;Street, Ellsworth.&nbsp; Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Sally enjoyed reading, the family pets (which were her children), and visiting with family and loved friends.&nbsp; She loved to send cards and spent countless hours searching for just the perfect card (color, verse, and picture) to send to her family and friends.&nbsp; Above all, Sally was extremely proud of her two grandsons, Luke and Joseph.&nbsp; While the grandsons were in school, Sally and Norman stayed busy traveling to their sporting events, and cheering for them. &nbsp;They were her pride and joy.On September 27, 1969, she married Norman Andrew Oberle, in Bushton.&nbsp; They shared almost 53 years of marriage.Sally is survived by:&nbsp; husband, Norman; son, Andrew Oberle (Melissa), all of Ellsworth; grandsons, Luke Oberle (Gentry) of Goddard and Joseph Oberle (Alexandra) of Beloit; great-grandson, William Oberle, with two more great-grandchildren to join the Oberle family in 2022; sister, Marilyn Sue Patterson of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; brothers, Harry Edwards, Bill Edwards, and Bob Edwards; and sisters, Carolyn Evans and Peggy Green.Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2022, at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery located on East 8th&nbsp;Street, Ellsworth.&nbsp; Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Judith Ann Birkenbaugh, 78, of Kingman, passed away on June 7, 2022.

Judy was born on February 3, 1944 to Edward and Ruth Scott Utz in McPherson. She was raised and received her education in McPherson and Kingman, graduating from Kingman High School in 1962. After high school Judy went on to study Home Economics at Southwestern and later Fort Hays State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree.

On July 3, 1966, she married Clint Birkenbaugh at Kingman. Judy and Clint went on to have two children, daughter Heidi and son Jason who were her pride and joy.

Although Judy was raised a “city girl”, she quickly adapted and fell in love with the life she and Clint had on the family farm. Judy’s soft spot for all animals was evident by the attachment she had for all the animals they raised on the farm, especially her Dalmations and cats.

Life on the farm was always busy but Judy found time to be involved with many clubs and organizations. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, P.E.O, Eastern Star and Young Farmers Wives. She also served on the Board of Education for U.S.D. 331 for nearly a decade.

Survivors include son Jason and his wife Becky Birkenbaugh (Audrey, Ty, Claire and Logan) of Kingman; daughter Heidi and her husband Doug of Suppesville. (Cody and Sarah, Bethany, Kynslie Howard, Ashly and Elijah, Allison and LJ, Sloane, Tyler, Hank and Archie and Madison and Ezryn); brother and sister in law Scott and Judy Utz, sister and brother in law Sharon and Larry Theurer; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was born Dec. 22, 1926, at Willowdale, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Arensdorf Miller.&nbsp; A resident of the Zenda community most of her life, she was a farm wife and homemaker.

Adeline was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Zenda.

On Jan. 12, 1954, she married C. Wayne Green at Willowdale; he died May 28, 1992.&nbsp; Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Becky and Clint East, Junell &nbsp;and Chauncey Swingle; brother Paul Miller; sisters Joan Smith, Mary M. He was a 1959 graduate of Marion High School in Marion, Kansas and went on to graduate from Wichita Business College in 1961. Ken moved to Marion, Iowa in 2000. He worked as an insurance agent for American Family Insurance for 22 years. After retirement he worked for Hy-Vee for 12 years, and recently worked for Indian Creek Country Club. Ken was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and Indian Creek Country Club. He loved to golf in his later years. In his younger years he loved to bowl and play softball. Ken was a kind, loving, and generous man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Ken is survived by his brothers, Marvin (Maggie) Meisinger of Marion; and Edward (Jan) Meisinger of Hillsboro; special friends, Jim and Janet Dettbarn and Barry and Jolene Buchholz, all of Marion, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Elizabeth Goering was a well-loved matriarch with a passion for peace and justice.

Born in rural Butler County, Kansas, she was the eldest child of Albert S. and Florence Schumi Claassen.&nbsp; She grew up working on the family farm and caring for her 7 younger siblings.&nbsp; The family attended Emmaus Mennonite Church where she joined the congregation after her baptism.&nbsp; Her formal education began in a one-room elementary school; she graduated from Whitewater High School in 1938.

Her Christian religious beliefs remained solid through her entire life and served as a firm foundation for her passionate desire to learn, explore and grow.

She enrolled in Bethel College from 1939 to 1941, attained her teaching certificate and taught for 2 years at Good Hope School in Marion County.&nbsp; While at Bethel, she met the love of her life, Victor Goering.&nbsp; They were married on June 11, 1943.&nbsp; By that time, Vic had been drafted into Civilian Public Service (CPS), so they were unable to establish a traditional household.&nbsp; Elizabeth found work either near Vic’s CPS posts (in Hill City, South Dakota, Marlboro, New Jersey, and Terry, Montana) or returned to Kansas to teach school.&nbsp;

After the war, the couple began farming in central Kansas, first on rental farms near McPherson and Halstead, then on their own land northeast of Moundridge.&nbsp; Elizabeth devoted herself to helping with the farm operation, managing the household, and nurturing their 4 children.&nbsp; She also was a skilled seamstress and a baker extraordinaire.

But her consummate skills in domestic and farm life did not preclude other passions. She was also an active feminist, an avid reader, politically involved and never afraid to speak her truth. She marched with her children in protest of the Vietnam War and was always involved with women’s and civil rights, including attending speeches by Gloria Steinem. She was an active participant in the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom for many years.

In 1959, after her children were all in school, she returned to teaching in local elementary schools, while at the same time taking college classes at night and over the summers to complete her bachelor’s degree, graduating from Bethel in 1965.

That same year she started a 17-year career as a first-grade teacher in the Hesston Unified School District.&nbsp; At Hesston, she taught the gifted children’s program, where she was able to integrate her love of teaching with her boundless creativity. Her teaching career spanned more than 50 years.

With Victor also working full time in the educational field, they were able to give up the farming operation in 1968.&nbsp; Elizabeth appreciated having time for travel and other activities.&nbsp; She delved deeply into her family history and genealogy, tracing roots back to the Vistula River delta in Poland, County Roscommon in Ireland, and Canton Bern in Switzerland.

Over the years, Vic and Elizabeth opened their home to many friends, relatives, and travelers.&nbsp; They formed special bonds with Polish agricultural trainees Grazyna and Vonda, whom they would later visit during some of their many trips to Europe.&nbsp; Other international travel opportunities included trips to Asia (Taiwan, China and Japan) and South America (Peru and the Mennonite settlements in Paraguay).

After retiring from teaching in 1983, she and Victor moved to Elkhart, Indiana for 2 years to volunteer at the Mennonite Seminary.&nbsp; Upon return to Kansas, they remained on the farm until 1993, when they moved to a home near the Bethel campus in North Newton.&nbsp; They spent their final years at Kidron Bethel Village.

Elizabeth is survived by her 4 children: Steven (Stein) Goering and wife Barbara Duerksen of Richland Center, WI; Rachel (Rachelle) Goering and partner Todd Lejnieks of Cave Creek, AZ; Deborah (Deb) Teitelbaum and husband Howard of Scottsdale, AZ; Terence (TR) Goering and wife Kit of Newton; 6 grandchildren: Kate Rutschman, Stephanie Lang Lynch, Scott Goering, Kelsey Goering, Nelson Goering, and Joel Goering; 5 great-grandchildren, and 5 siblings: Elva Unruh, Mildred Voran, Dora Golden, John Claassen, and Virgil Claassen.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Victor Goering, in 2016, and siblings Louis Claassen and Ruth Janzen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nola Marie Gaeddert (Herman), died June 8, 2022 at Pleasant View Memory Care in Inman.&nbsp; Nola was born January 26, 1930 (the fourth of five children) to Robert Uriah Herman and Reva Susan Herman in Lincoln.

Nola graduated from Lincoln High School and then attended National Career School in Omaha, NE. She then moved to Hutchinson, where she met and married Albert Gene Gaeddert. They were married on August 12,1951 at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. Nola worked at Carey Salt Company until they bought and moved to a farm near Buhler, KS. Daughters Jan Louise was born January 26, 1953 and Shirley Ann on September 30, 1955. Nola enjoyed wood carving and worked part time at State Farm Insurance and later a rural substitute mail carrier.

Nola is survived by husband Albert, (Pleasant View, Inman, KS);&nbsp; sister Joyce Countryman, (Tucson, AZ);&nbsp; daughter Jan Jaye-Smith husband Steven R. Smith (Wichita); daughter Shirley Pestinger husband Robert Pestinger (Andover);&nbsp; five grandchildren: Ashley Hein (Ponca City, OK); Brandon Jaye (Leawood); Tyler Jaye (Lee’s Summit, MO); Lindsay Paulseen (Wichita); Cameron Pestinger (Chicago, IL) and nine great grandchildren.

Opal Ripley was born near Beemer, Nebraska to Albert and Katie Nitzsche.&nbsp; She passed away at the age of 97 on June 8, 2022 at the Schowalter Villa, Hesston.

She moved to North Dakota with her parents and two siblings in 1929, where their newly rented house and all of their possessions burned to the ground the first night while they stayed with neighbors.&nbsp; They stayed, rebuilt, and made North Dakota their home.&nbsp; Opal was baptized there around 1938.

Opal attended Hesston Academy and College from 1940 to 1944 and taught there until 1947.&nbsp; She then continued her studies at Goshen College.&nbsp; She worked in the medical records field at several hospitals over the years.

She was a gentle soul, with a quiet sense of humor.&nbsp; Always reading, she kept up with world affairs, and current works of fiction.&nbsp; She was compassionate to those on the fringes of society.&nbsp; She was an excellent cook and enjoyed exploring new cuisines.&nbsp; As an example to all her nephews and nieces, she flew each one to Philadelphia the year of their high school graduation to stay and to explore with her the City of Brotherly Love.&nbsp; For some it was their first airplane ride, for some it was their first visit to a big city.&nbsp; She enjoyed living in Philadelphia.

She married Vernon Ripley in 1984 in Philadelphia, after her retirement.&nbsp; He died in 1996.&nbsp; Opal, in 2004, moved to Hesston to the Schowalter Villa.&nbsp; She joined the Hesston Mennonite Church soon after.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Albert and Katie; and her younger brothers and sisters, Dale Nitzsche, Lois Selzer, Willard Nitzsche, and Mae Mumaw.&nbsp; She is survived by 15 nephews and nieces, and numerous great- and great-great nephews and nieces.

Kimberly “Kim” K. Martin, 46, of Moundridge, passed away June 7, 2022 at her home.&nbsp; She was born February 11, 1976 in McPherson, the daughter of Jay Martin and Barbara Thomson.

She graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1994.

Kim was a dietary aide at Schowalter Villa in Hesston for 17 years.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing at Harvey County West Park.&nbsp; Kim loved her dogs and was known for helping anyone in need.

Kim is survived by her mother, Barbara Vaughn of Moundridge; common law husband, Duke Fattig of Moundridge; three sons, Michael Altum of Wichita, Eric (Destiny) Bevins of El Paso, Texas; and Andrew Harris of Salina; daughter, Calissa Fattig of Halstead; grandson, Braydon Bevins; four brothers, Rick (Jess) Godwin of Missouri, James Martin of McPherson, Dusty (Sharon) Vaughn of Texas, and Ben (Erica) Vaughn of Tennessee; and one sister, Shannon (Bill) Tonsor of Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Brittaney Fattig; maternal grandparents, Dale and Carol (Phillips) Thomson.

Phillip David Tyner, 63, of Newton, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.&nbsp; He was born December 20, 1958 in Marion, the son of Charles and Darlene (Roberts) Tyner.

Phillip graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1977.

He was united in marriage to Vivian Ann Weldon on July 21, 1984 in Newton.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Phillip worked as an aircraft mechanic for Webco Aircraft at the Newton Airport for 30 years.

He was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Newton.&nbsp; Phillip enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle.

He is also survived by his son, Phillip David Charles Tyner (Holly) of Newton; daughters, Cassie Tyner of Wichita, and Heather Tyner of Newton; three grandchildren, Jacob, Curtis and William Potter; one great-granddaughter, Addilyn; three brothers, Marty Tyner of Newton, Morris "Mo" Tyner of Wichita, and Tom Tyner of Missouri; and sister, Tresea (Mike) Bailey of McPherson.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents.

Janice enjoyed working in her garden, art, and traveling.&nbsp; She loved animals and served as the president of a local humane society.

Janice is survived by: her son, Jeff (Sunam) Arjes of Severn, MD; grandsons, Christopher Arjes and Ryan Arjes; siblings, Mike Holland of Moundridge, Carol (Rick) Carrazco of Ellsworth, and Marla Holland of Hutchinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Bella.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kevin Holland.

Sandra Lee Vandeveer passed away on June 7, 2022, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, in the company of her family. Sandy had been in long term care at MLMH since January 2016, after suffering a series of strokes. For the majority of her days in long term care, Jack would join her for supper and spend the evening visiting. Sandy was born on December 20, 1934, to Curtis and Mildred (Toombs) Schiff at their farm home in rural Medicine Lodge. Sandy was the oldest of the five Schiff children. She attended school through eighth grade at the Walstead country school, then attended high school in Medicine Lodge. She was valedictorian of the class of 1952. She and Jack dated through high school, and they married in Medicine Lodge on June 2, 1953. Jack was serving in the U.S. Air Force at Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX, and Jack and Sandy lived there until early 1954; at that time, the Air Force transferred Jack to French Morocco, and Sandy returned to Barber County. When Jack completed his military duty and returned home in early 1955, Jack and Sandy moved to the farm southwest of Sharon where they spent the next 61 years farming and raising their family before Sandy entered long term care. She and Jack were married for more than 67 years before Jack passed away in January of 2021. Four children were born to Jack and Sandy: Lance, Monte, Stacey, and Steffany. Jack and Sandy were avid supporters of their children in school activities and never missed a ball game, track meet, school play, concert or event. In later years, they often traveled to see their children and grandchildren for holidays, ballgames, or just to visit. During the years while the kids were still at home, Sandy was a busy homemaker. She regularly had a large vegetable garden each summer, and she enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was also an avid seamstress, sewing everything from underwear and nightgowns to dress clothes for her kids. In later years she took up quilting and produced numerous quilts prized by family and others. After Steffany (the youngest), entered the 8th grade, Sandy began working at the Barber County Farm Service Agency (USDA) office, initially as a substitute employee in the late 1980’s but soon becoming a permanent staff member. She retired from the FSA office in the early 2000’s. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her sister Donna Rowe. Survivors include: Lance and Karmen Vandeveer, of Sharon; Monte Vandeveer of Lee’s Summit, MO; Stacey and Kerry Regier of Forgan, OK; Steffany and Brian Hill of Thompson Station, TN; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley McDaniel and Sue Marshall of Medicine Lodge; and brother Tom Schiff of Pratt. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge 67104. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Percy L. Toews, 77, of Inman, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, surrounded by family at the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge. He was a retired farmer and also had worked at McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility and Kit Manufacturing.

Percy was born on April 26, 1945, in McPherson, the son of A.R. “Abe” and Ruby M. (Ensz) Toews.&nbsp; On July 7, 1968, he was united in marriage to Irene Nikkel at the Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Inman.

Survivors include: his wife, Irene; four sons, Jerrold (Julie) Toews of Inman, KS, Les (Dinah) Toews of Windom, Matthew (Ilana) Toews of Hydro, OK, and Carlyle (Joni) Toews of McPherson; three brothers, Harry (Luella) Toews of Barron, WI, Robert (Diane) Toews of Windom, and Randy (Dianne) Toews of McPherson; four sisters, Marilyn (Clayton) Schmidt of Buhl, ID, Alice (Kenneth) Ensz of Sutherland, NE, Ruth (LaVern) Nikkel of Inman, and Deanna (Richard) Ensz of Windom; stepmother-in-law, Delma Nikkel of Moundridge; a brother-in-law, William Wadel of Murray, KY; and 16 grandchildren.

Raul “Rudy” Martinez, 89, of Chase, Kansas, passed away June 8, 2022, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. 

He was born August 31, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Jose and Juanita Martinez. Rudy has resided in Chase for the past 54 years. He worked in the oil field as an operator for many years. 

On March 17, 1952, Rudy was united in marriage with Francisca Perez in San Antonio, Texas. Rudy is survived by his wife, Francisca of Chase, KS; three sons, Luis Martinez of Chase, Raul Martinez Jr. of Lyons, and Lasaro Martinez Sr. of Lyons; four daughters, Beatrice Olson of Lyons, Janie Werner of Lyons, Sally Lopez of Lyons, and Mary Lopez of Topeka; two sisters, Lupe Martinez and Margarita Rodrate; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Juanita Martinez; brother, Francisco Martinez; and three sisters, Victoria Martinez, Angelita Cabazo, and Maria Gonzales. 

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 13, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Rudy has resided in Chase for the past 54 years. He worked in the oil field as an operator for many years. On March 17, 1952, Rudy was united in marriage with Francisca Perez in San Antonio, Texas. Rudy is survived by his wife, Francisca of Chase, KS; three sons, Luis Martinez of Chase, Raul Martinez Jr. of Lyons, and Lasaro Martinez Sr. of Lyons; four daughters, Beatrice Olson of Lyons, Janie Werner of Lyons, Sally Lopez of Lyons, and Mary Lopez of Topeka; two sisters, Lupe Martinez and Margarita Rodrate; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Juanita Martinez; brother, Francisco Martinez; and three sisters, Victoria Martinez, Angelita Cabazo, and Maria Gonzales. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 13, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Michael Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Matthew John Torrez, 20, of Hutchinson, died May 30, 2022, at his home. He was born September 2, 2001, in Hutchinson, to Joseph Torrez and Melissa Crafton.

Matthew attended Hutchinson High School. He was working as a package handler for UPS. Matthew loved skateboarding; it was his favorite past time. He also enjoyed music, especially rap and Johnny Cash. Matthew was known for his sense of humor by friends and family. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Lloyd Wolf, 80, died June 1, 2022, at Diversicare, Sedgwick, KS.&nbsp; He was born August 16, 1941, in Colby, to Willard and Alice (Weber) Wolf.

He attended Colby High School.&nbsp; Lloyd worked in sales for Farmland Industries for many years and then sold metal buildings for other companies. Lloyd was an avid golfer and enjoyed RVing in his later years.&nbsp; He loved his family. Lloyd’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family.

On May 19, 1962, he married Karen Kay McBride, in Colby. They shared 60 years together.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by:&nbsp; wife, Karen, Hutchinson; sons, Craig (Beth) Wolf, Hutchinson, and Todd (Carol) Wolf, Inman; grandchildren, MariBeth (Dustin) Jackson, Windom, Mitchell Wolf, Lawrence, and Kylie (Garrett) Weems, Coupeville, WA; step-grandchildren, Kristine (Matt) Krivensky, Elizabethtown, KY, and Stephanie (Jason) Moen, Inman; five great-grandchildren, Maddilynn, Colton, Cayson, Larkin, and Wyatt; and step- great-grandchildren, Dominic, Kaleb, Allison, and Natalia.

After graduating from Salina High School, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1958 from the University of Kansas.&nbsp; She was a loyal member of the university’s Pi Beta Phi Sorority and lifetime member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, KS.

On April 29, 1961, Sharon married Charles Edward Kimbell, in Salina. They shared nearly 55 years of marriage, prior to his death on April 21, 2016.

Sharon lived a full life. She loved traveling, golfing, playing Bridge at the Art Center or at home with her Bridge group, and attending KU Football and Basketball games. She was ever-present in her children’s lives and was an extra-special ‘Gram’ to her three grandchildren. Sharon created and maintained friendships across the country from all walks of life. Preferring to make a difference behind the scenes, she gave endlessly while rarely expecting anything in return. She, along with her husband, were recognized benefactors of the University of Kansas and the Williams Educational Fund, as well as their beloved community of Hutchinson.

She is survived by:&nbsp; her children, Michael (Michelle) Kimbell of Mission Hills, and Kay (Dan) Almanza of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Fischer (fiancée, Jaden Butcher) Almanza, Ellen Almanza, and Jackson Kimbell; and several extended family members.

Sharon was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; and brother, Bryan H. Lynch.

Kathrine’s life began May 14, 1947, in Kansas City, MO. She was the daughter of Harold C. and Betty S. (Shirk) Harvey. 

Kathrine was a 1965 graduate of Remington High School. She worked as a clerk for Kleppers convenience store. 

Kathrine is survived by her children Rena (Tim) McCullough of Cushing, OK, Sandra Foster of Panama City, FL, Clifford Foster of Haysville,&nbsp; Christina Karanja of Wichita, and Sarah Reitz of Wichita; sister Rena Majerus; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and two nephews Gregory and David Majerus.&nbsp; Kathrine passed away at her home on June 7, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Brenda Cobb. 

Her family will gather with friends on Saturday June 11, 2022, for her funeral service at Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. The funeral service will start at 11:00 a.m.&nbsp; with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Kathrine will be laid to rest in Green Valley Cemetery, Furley.&nbsp;

Doris was born on December 21, 1932, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Travis
and Anna Evans Avery.&nbsp; She graduated from Hutchinson High School and
attended Hutchinson Community College where she received a degree in
Nutrition.&nbsp; Doris retired in 1995 after 25 years as a nutritionist service
manager for USD #308. &nbsp;On January 30, 1954, Doris married Lawrence
Swenson.&nbsp; He died April 16, 1994.&nbsp; On January 19, 2006, she married
Charles R. Cottle.&nbsp; He died on July 17, 2021. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lawrence and Robert; a son,
Edwin L. Swenson; and siblings, Emmett, Marion, and Henry Avery, Myrtle
Robinson, Alberta Crabbs and Donna Caldwell. 
Doris is survived by her son, Wayne Swenson; two daughters in law, Bonnie
