Ruby (Yowell) Larson, 82, passed away in San Diego, California on June 19, 2022. She was born on November 17, 1939 in McPherson, to Helen “Grace” (Kubin) and Roy Yowell, and married Lawrence Larson in McPherson on July 25, 1958. 

She is survived by her brother, Homer Yowell and his wife, Ruth, of McPherson; her children, Rhonda of San Diego, and Leslie and his wife, Jamie, of McPherson; four grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

A short graveside ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 20, 2022 at the McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larry L. Eskew, 69, died July 13, 2022 at his home in Kingman surrounded by family.

He was born July 7, 1953, in Hutchinson the son of Lee and Lois Ginn Eskew.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of the Penalosa and Kingman communities, he was the former Transportation Director for Kingman-Norwich USD 331.

Larry was a member of the Penalosa United Methodist Church.

On Dec. 1, 1972, he married Terri Scott at Sylvia.&nbsp; Other survivors include son Rob and his wife Sharon; daughter Tracey Weaver and her husband Andrew; mother Lois; and three grandchildren Les, Allie and Carter.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father; brother Leslie; and sister Trish Jarmer.

Beverly Ann Cash, 85, died July 12, 2022, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born November 26, 1936, in Ellsworth, to Edgar W. and Irene F. (Wamhoff) Schepmann.

Beverly graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954, and received her associate degree in secretarial science from Hutchinson Community College. She was a homemaker.&nbsp; Beverly enjoyed working with her hands: crocheting, tatting, knitting, cooking and flower gardening.&nbsp; She shared her talent of crocheting by making blankets for the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center and “Caps for Kids” for The Salvation Army.&nbsp; Beverly enjoyed spending her time painting in various modalities.&nbsp; Since 1946, Beverly was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, and had served as the Sunday school teacher for the children of the church.

On August 18, 1957, she married Richard Caldwell Cash.&nbsp; They shared over 61 years of marriage before his death on October 17, 2018.&nbsp;

Beverly is survived by:&nbsp; son, Joel Cash of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Nick Cash of Wichita, Rachel Diepenbrock (AJ) of Phoenix, AZ, and Kyle Shelton of Wichita; great-grandson, Cash Diepenbrock of Phoenix, AZ; close friend, Raymond Davidson of Dallas, TX; two sisters; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Anne Shelton.

Rosetta May (Lawrenz) Schlesener life began on a small farm northwest of Herington, on August 27, 1921. She was the daughter of Karl and Olga (Ohm) Lawrenz. 

Rosetta lived on the dairy farm with four brothers and one sister. Rosetta attended a one room rural grade school called Rocky Vale District 83, which was located a half mile east of the farm, which later, the school was moved to Lost Spring. At the Rocky Vale school, she graduated eighth grade, she did not attend high school. She stayed on the farm to help with the dairy, meals, chickens, and help with loading wood for the wood stove on the farm. 

On Sept 4, 1921, she was baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1928, her family changed over to the Zion Lutheran Church, in Latimer. During that time, she attended parochial school for two years, where she would than stay with her Aunt Martha and Uncle John and then return home on the weekends, she was then later confirmed on May 12, 1935, by Pastor O.C. Jagels, in Latimer. Rosetta’s memory verse for confirmation was, Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 2 Peter 3: 18. Rosetta lived with that verse as she went through the rest of her journey. 

On June 18, 1942, Rosetta married Harvey Schlesener at the Zion Lutheran church parsonage in Latimer, Kansas. Later they moved to a farm northwest of Herington. Rosetta joined the Immanual Lutheran church (Shady Brook), her husband was already a member there. Rosetta was a homemaker in which she would help her husband with the daily house chores and farming. As years went by Rosetta and Harvey welcomed two beautiful baby boys, Lyle Dean and Jerry Alan. She remained on the farm raising the boys and helping her husband farm. In 1994 her husband had to go into the Herington care home. Rosetta stayed on the farm maintaining it until 1996, where she decided to move to Herington Heights Home where she could be closer to her husband. She would take daily walks to visit him until he passed away on March 7, 2003. She remained as a member of the church.  On October 15, 2014, Rosetta moved into the Legacy Nursing Home there she stayed until her death. Rosetta lived a beautiful long-lasting life. 

On July 13, 2022, she went to heaven peacefully with her sons by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents Karl (Olga) Schlesener, her sister Bernice Diekmann, and four brothers, Harry Lawrenz, Elmer Lawrenz, Charles Jr. Lawrenz, and LeRoy Dean Lawrenz, and her husband Harvey Schlesener. Surviving family members are her two sons Lyle (Ron Marteeny) Schlesener of Daytona Beach, Florida; Jerry (Caroline McIntosh) Schlesener of Herington; and many nieces and nephews.

 Family will have visitation on Sunday July 17, 2022 from 3-5 pm at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home in Herington. On Monday July 18, 2022 at 10 am, family will have a graveside service at Shady Brook Cemetery with Pastor Alan Stahlecker leading her service. F

Louis James (Louie) Potter, 91, passed on July 12, 2022.&nbsp; He was born a twin (Lois) on August 3, 1930, in Elkhart, close to the family’s 160-acre homestead in Rolla. Due to the prolonged dust storms, farming was unsuccessful and the family moved to Hutchinson in 1934.&nbsp; 

Louie represented the twelfth generation of Potters to come to America and just as the generations that preceded him, he had strong ties to agriculture and took great pride in raising farm animals and growing crops.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 and was stationed in Germany. &nbsp;Louie always had a gift of quirky one-liners and adding humor to any conversation.&nbsp; He was employed at Betts Bakery in Hutchinson from 1947–1986, where he retired as the Superintendent of Distribution.&nbsp; Louie married Shirley Smith (Warkentin) in 1954 and had four children.&nbsp; He married Joyce Eakes in 1970 and had one child and a step-daughter. &nbsp;Louie was an avid fisherman, hunter and lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.&nbsp; He was happiest when camping on a river bank, smoking his pipe and sipping on a cup of coffee, all while in the company of family.&nbsp; In his retirement years, he loved family hunting and fishing trips and spending his free time playing pitch and dominoes.&nbsp;

Louie is survived by:&nbsp; his sons, Robert (Mary) Potter of Wichita; Daniel (Cinna) Potter of Locust Grove, OK; and Mike (Laura) Potter of Wichita; step-daughter, Patricia Albrecht (Matt Davis) of Darnestown, MD; 14 grandchildren, Bart, Caitlin, Maggie, Mark, Bryan, Emilee, Megan, Logan, Emily, and Brady Potter, and Candace Wilson, Josh Gillespie, Kaili Doeden, Dylan Mitchell; and 19 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Louie was preceded in death by: his parents, Clarence and Cleo Potter; all of his siblings, Harold, Floyd, Ruth, Herb, and twin sister, Lois; son, Louis James Potter, Jr; daughter, Peggy Hargus; grandson, Daniel James Potter; and great-granddaughter, Kilar Gillespie.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Avenue, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating.&nbsp; Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life will be held at the Polo Bar &amp; Grill, 25 East 30th, Hutchinson, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Louis 'Louie' James Potter  |1930-2022|

Arlene Winifred (Bunker) White, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Hutchinson. Arlene was born Feb. 11, 1936, at Dorrance, to Thomas and Frances Bunker. She was raised on the family’s farm between Dorrance and Wilson. 

She attended school at Dorrance, and graduated as valedictorian of the Dorrance High School class of 1954. During her high school years, she met Albert Leon White, who had been recruited to play football for nearby Bunker Hill High School. They were married on May 27, 1954, and shared 38 years of marriage, until Leon passed away in 1992. They had three children, Sue Jean, Wayne and Sheryl. 

The young family lived in Liberal, Kan., Guymon, Okla., and Amarillo, Texas, as Leon established his career in the freight business, working for Navajo and then Transcon truck lines. Offered a job with Graves Truck Line, the family moved to McPherson, where they lived for many years. Arlene worked as the office manager at Graves and Navajo, gaining her experience in the freight business. Arlene and Leon purchased Alexander Truck Line, Lyons, which they operated for more than 10 years. 

Arlene later became the executive director of the Lyons Housing Authority, from where she retired. Arlene continued to live independently in Lyons, until her recent move to an assisted living facility in Hutchison. 

Arlene was the best mom in the world, and her children were the pride of her life. She always supported them in everything they did; and they could always count on her help in times of trouble. She always enjoyed when her family got together, especially at Christmas. Arlene was a devoted Christian who loved and trusted in God, and she was a member of Lyons United Methodist Church, at Lyons. She especially enjoyed her Bon Ami Sunday school class, and studying the Bible. She and Leon enjoyed fishing together, spending many days on Wilson Lake and Kanopolis Lake. She liked to talk about their trip to Lake Texoma, where they caught many stripers. Throughout the early years, she was a dedicated go-kart mom, attending practically every race that her husband competed in throughout the central U.S, although she didn’t particularly enjoy camping all weekend in the dirty, dusty, noisy pits of the go-kart races. 

Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, genealogy and mapping cemeteries. She had served on the boards of Rice County Historical Society and the Lyons Housing Authority, and was treasurer of her Sunday school class during the years she attended. 

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; her parents; and a brother, Kenneth Bunker. Arlene Winifred (Bunker) White, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Hutchinson. Arlene was born Feb. 11, 1936, at Dorrance, to Thomas and Frances Bunker. She was raised on the family’s farm between Dorrance and Wilson. She attended school at Dorrance, and graduated as valedictorian of the Dorrance High School class of 1954. During her high school years, she met Albert Leon White, who had been recruited to play football for nearby Bunker Hill High School. They were married on May 27, 1954, and shared 38 years of marriage, until Leon passed away in 1992. They had three children, Sue Jean, Wayne and Sheryl. The young family lived in Liberal, Kan., Guymon, Okla., and Amarillo, Texas, as Leon established his career in the freight business, working for Navajo and then Transcon truck lines. Offered a job with Graves Truck Line, the family moved to McPherson, where they lived for many years. Arlene worked as the office manager at Graves and Navajo, gaining her experience in the freight business. Arlene and Leon purchased Alexander Truck Line, Lyons, which they operated for more than 10 years. Arlene later became the executive director of the Lyons Housing Authority, from where she retired. Arlene continued to live independently in Lyons, until her recent move to an assisted living facility in Hutchison. Arlene was the best mom in the world, and her children were the pride of her life. She always supported them in everything they did; and they could always count on her help in times of trouble. She always enjoyed when her family got together, especially at Christmas. Arlene was a devoted Christian who loved and trusted in God, and she was a member of Lyons United Methodist Church, at Lyons. She especially enjoyed her Bon Ami Sunday school class, and studying the Bible. She and Leon enjoyed fishing together, spending many days on Wilson Lake and Kanopolis Lake. She liked to talk about their trip to Lake Texoma, where they caught many stripers. Throughout the early years, she was a dedicated go-kart mom, attending practically every race that her husband competed in throughout the central U.S, although she didn’t particularly enjoy camping all weekend in the dirty, dusty, noisy pits of the go-kart races. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, genealogy and mapping cemeteries. She had served on the boards of Rice County Historical Society and the Lyons Housing Authority, and was treasurer of her Sunday school class during the years she attended. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; her parents; and a brother, Kenneth Bunker. Karla R. Dellinger, 66, died July 11, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born July 16, 1955, in Nevada, MO, the daughter of Wilmer and Sylvia Yoder Miller.&nbsp; 

She was a graduate of Haven High School and received her associates degree from Brown Mackey College, Salina.&nbsp; A residence of Panama City, FL from 1998 – 2018, she had worked as an accounts payable manager for Early Learning Coalition.&nbsp; She was a member of Living Word Church, Panama City, FL.&nbsp; She married Larry Dellinger on September 22, 1988. &nbsp;He passed away June 12, 1994.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother, South Hutchinson; a daughter, Jessica (Jimmy Bullard) Dellinger, Panama City, FL; granddaughters Zoey Dellinger and Ava Bullard, Panama City, FL; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Dellinger, Nickerson; 3 step grandchildren, Ashlea Griffith, Alexis Twigg, and Stormy Thompson; 3 step great grandchildren; and siblings, Wanda Morgan, , Donita (Danny) King, and Rodney Miller, all of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her father and her husband.

Delilah D. Davis, 65, passed away at home July 2, 2022. She was born February 7, 1957 to Burns and Leona (Hamilton) Teague in Wichita. 

Delilah was an avid collector of angels, unicorns and cherished teddies, she loved being a grandma and taking her family to the pool. She was no stranger to making friends; everywhere she went she would welcome everyone with her love and kindness. Delilah loved to take care of her family and held them to high standards, she also enjoyed cooking and would make sure no one went hungry. She also helped to initiate the open door pregnancy care and form and charter New Hope Baptist Church. 

Delilah is survived by her father, Burns Teague; husband, Timothy Davis, of 34 years; son, Koleton Davis; daughters, Katrina Krase and Kameo Okikawa (Robert); brother, Greg Teague (Janet); brothers in law,  Kent  Allen Davis and Don Davis; sisters, (twin sister) Rhonda Sample (Robert), Annette Hubbs, Alice Schmidt, Kelly Millett (Chris); sister in law,  Jennifer Davis; grandsons, Braydon Krase, Logan Krase, Keaton Nafzinger and Kamden Davis; granddaughter, Natalie Nafzinger; mother in law, Judy K. Davis and unofficial mom and grandma to anyone else. She is preceded in death by her mother, Leona Teague; son, Kendrick Davis; grandmother, Ruby Aten ; father in law, Jerry Davis and mother in law Dorothy Davis. Ruth’s life began on August 30, 1928, in Faribault, Minn. She was the daughter of Hugo and Margaret (Krause) Velzke. 

Ruth was educated at Concordia School and University in Seward, Neb. She was assigned to teach at St. John’s Lutheran school in Lincolnville, and later went to Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia for her bachelor's degree in education.

 Ruth married Vernon W. “Bum” Poppe on August 14, 1949, in Faribault, Minn. They raised their family in Lincolnville, for 45 years before she moved to Clay Center, following Bum’s passing. She was an elementary school teacher in Pilsen and Lost Springs, retiring in 1990 from the Centre Unified District. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville, serving as the church organist for over 50 years. Ruth enjoyed quilting and belonged to quilting guilds in Hillsboro and Clay Center. 

She is survived by her children Wayne (Connie) Poppe of Oklahoma City and Janelle Poppe of Olathe; daughter-in-law Carol Poppe of Overland Park and son-in-law Ron Koster of Clay Center; grandchildren Kevin (Jen) Poppe of Overland Park, David (Sarah) Poppe of Overland Park, Katherine (Will) Tarr of Overland Park, Andi Sullivan of Norman, Okla., Matthew (Jaena) Poppe of Edmond, Okla., Nathan Poppe of Oklahoma City, Jamie Koster of Clay Center, Brett (Andrea) Koster of Chapman and Megan (Cane) Griffiths of Wakefield; great-grandchildren Marin, Campbell, Owen, Abigail, Connor, Callie, Heath, Rhett, Bo, Farah, Ellie, Rylee, Raegan, Sawyer and Emmie; and her sister Jane Teschke of Roseville, Minn. 

Ruth passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Avdena Living in Clay Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon(Bum), children Tom Poppe and Marsha Koster, granddaughter Erin Koster and grandson-in-law Barry Sullivan. 

Ruth’s family will gather with friends on Monday, July 18, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Lincolnville from noon until 1 p.m. after which funeral services will be led by Pastor Alan Stahlecker. She will be laid to rest in Lincolnville Cemetery.&nbsp;

Patricia Colleen Atterberry O’Brien, 83, passed away
peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on July 11, 2022. She was born
November 2, 1938 in Aurora, Colorado, to Emmett and Geraldine Brown Atterberry.


On August 24th, 1957 Pat married the love of her
life, John Dennis O’Brien.&nbsp; They spent 60
years celebrating their love for each other as well as their love for children.
Together they had six of their own. Michael (Jan) O’Brien, Sister Joseph Mary,
Tom (Beth) O’Brien, Rozie O’Brien, Peg (Richard) Norris, and Rory (Michele)
O’Brien; 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; 

After raising her family, Pat decided to pursue a degree in
education; she chose Special Education as her specialty.&nbsp; No one was ever more suited.&nbsp; She retired in 1997 after spending nearly 20
years in the classroom.&nbsp; After retirement
she spent her time traveling and sharing memories with her most precious gifts;
her family (most especially her babies).

Pat is survived by her children, sisters Melda Allen and
Charlene Lassiter, and her sister-in-law Patty O’Brien.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack and
her loving husband John Dennis.

A rosary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15th
at The Church of the Holy Cross. Followed by a reception for family and friends
at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at
10:15 on Saturday, July 16th at The Church of the Holy Cross.Internment will take place at 4:00 p.m. at
St. John the Baptist Cemetery south of Bazine.

Sue Rea Adkins was born January 22, 1952 to Marion Richard and Una L. (Kehr) Allen in Pratt. She died on Thursday, July 7, 2022 in Wichita. Sue attended grade school in Preston, Kansas, and she graduated from Pratt High School in 1970. She attended the St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, graduating in 1973 as a registered nurse. She practiced for 26 years in Wichita, working in hospitals and later in private practice. She retired in 1996 because of health conditions. She was talented in working with needlepoint. She was also an animal lover and contributed to various animal charities, and she had a number of her own cats over the years. She enjoyed reading and had an extensive library. She was also an active member of Eastminister Presbyterian Church of Wichita, Kansas. She is survived by her brother, Earl Allen (and wife, Marcia) of Manhattan; and nephews, Bryan Allen (and wife, Cori) of Roeland Park, and Sean Allen of Glendive, Montana. Sue is preceded in death by her parents. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Robert Dean “Bob” Koehn, son of Carl J. and Lena (Wedel) Koehn, was born July 2, 1932, in McPherson.&nbsp; He was one of eight &nbsp;children born to the Koehn family.

Bob graduated from Bethel College (North Newton, KS) and then went on to earn a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. &nbsp;

Prior to retirement, Bob was a Botany professor for 35 years at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Bob enjoyed teaching and helping his students succeed. He often went above and beyond in helping his students reach their goals. He was also a fraternity advisor for Delta Tau Delta. He kept in touch with many of his students after they graduated, even getting to know their spouses and extended families.

After retirement, Bob moved to Austin and lived there until his death.&nbsp; While living in Austin, Bob was involved with Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed collecting hand-carved duck decoys.

Bob was a member of the Austin Mennonite Church. He was active in the church and helped with coordinating volunteers to help serve meals at the downtown homeless shelter. Bob enjoyed creating decorations at the front of the church for worship services. He always brought a carving that spelled the word “PEACE.” He was very supportive of the peace witness of the Mennonite church.

Bob volunteered with Trinity Child Development Center at their annual Christmas fundraiser and often donated items from his collections for their fundraising efforts. One year, he donated a large Canadian Goose decoy. He said he didn’t like the way the goose kept looking at him over its shoulder!&nbsp;&nbsp;Bob even took swimming lessons and learned to swim so he could take part in a yearly fund-raising event that benefited Trinity Child Development Center.

Bob enjoyed visiting with his family in Kansas in person and by phone. His nieces and nephews stayed in touch with Bob and often came to visit him in Texas. He kept up with their lives and loved them very much. &nbsp;Being far from his Kansas relatives, Bob was not always able to gather with them on holidays. Later in life, he had a tradition of gathering with the family of Dr. Kyle and Dr. Sara Florio over the Christmas holidays.

As Bob got older, he appreciated the dedicated service of his live-in caregiver, a native Texan named Wade whom he'd met serendipitously back in 2015, and appreciated the attention, care, and companionship Wade provided Bob through many difficulties of health and life challenges, enabling Bob to stay in his home as long as possible.

Bob entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at South Austin Medical Center in Austin, TX.&nbsp; He had just reached the age of ninety.

Survivors include five nephews and seven nieces.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Valdo Koehn, Verna Dirks, Mabel Koehn, Lloyd Koehn, Nelson Koehn, Lila Koehn, and Paul Koehn.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at McPherson Cemetery. &nbsp;A memorial service will also be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday July 16, at the Austin Mennonite Church, 5801 Westminster Dr., Austin, TX 78723. &nbsp;

Ruthe K. Willems, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson.

Ruthe was born Jan. 22, 1931, on the family farm in Dallas County, Iowa, the third daughter of Peter A. and Arbie Ruth (Wingert) Keller. Two sons later completed the Keller family.

Ruthe began first grade at the age of 4. Had she waited, she would have been the only student in her grade level at Fairview country school. Later, rheumatic fever kept her out of school for a year.

After graduating as salutatorian from Dallas Center High School in 1948, Ruthe went on to study at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and to work at the Brenton State Bank in Dallas Center. She married Alvin E. Willems Dec. 20, 1952, at the Church of the Brethren in Dallas Center. The couple made their first home on the campus of McPherson College, where Alvin was teaching. The couple served as house parents first at Kline Hall and then later at Fahnestock Hall. In 1958, they moved their growing family to 1422 E. Euclid. They remained in “the big house” until 2006, when they downsized to The Cedars Village.

After working as a stay-at-home mom for many years, Ruthe returned to banking in 1976 when her former boss at the Brenton State Bank met Dick Nichols, president of McPherson’s Home State Bank, at a national convention. Ruthe’s name came up in conversation, and Dick Nichols went on to offer Ruthe a job at Home State. Ruthe retired from her position as general ledger administrator in the early 1990s.

Not only was Ruthe adept at numbers, but she was also very good at baking. Her pie crusts and Sunday morning cinnamon rolls were second to none.

Alvin and Ruthe, along with their four children, indulged their love of the Rocky Mountains every summer at the family cabin in Chaffee County, Colorado. Although not raised Mennonite, Ruthe enjoyed taking Mennonite heritage tours with Alvin and his cousin and wife, Vic and Josephine Willems. Together, they explored Germany, the Ukraine, and Paraguay.

Softspoken, kind and nurturing, Ruthe was the much beloved mother of Mark, Susan, Janette, and Brent. To the end, she closely followed the lives of her children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. “What’s new with the kids?” was her most oft-repeated phrase.

A faithful member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren, Ruthe joined the church’s choir later in life and participated until glaucoma destroyed her ability to read music. Ruthe also was a member of Chapter EU of the P.E.O Sisterhood.

Ruthe is survived by her children, Susan (Gordon) Hornbaker of Elizabeth, CO; Janette (Bryan) Hess of McPherson; Brent (Arleen Paulino) Willems of Westlake Village, CA; and daughter-in-law Machelle Willems of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Laura (Jason) Smith of Kiowa, CO; Matthew (Jessica) Hess of Denver, CO; Marc (Kim) Hess of Overland Park; and Grant Hornbaker of Centennial, CO; and seven great-grandchildren: Adeline, Ainsley, Berkeley, Amelia, Dashiell, Bennett and Wesley.

Other survivors include her siblings, Dorothy Eby of Dallas Center, IA, Joe (Marion) Keller of Dallas Center, IA, and Andy (Jan) Keller of Ackworth, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eldest son, Mark, sister, Mary Copeland, and multiple in-laws.

Carol Ann Froese, 74, of Sterling, passed away July 10, 2022, at her home. She was born October 7, 1947, in Whittier, California, the daughter of John Andrew and Luella Heinrichs Thiesen. 

Carol has resided in Sterling since 1974, formerly of Fresno and Whittier, California. She graduated from Sterling College with a Bachelor’s degree in 1977. Carol was a business owner and operator of Décor Party Supplies and was a cake decorator. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, and a member of Hutchinson Downtown Development Corporation. For 32 years, Carol coordinated the Sterling Thanksgiving Dinner for the community. 

On June 17, 1967, Carol was united in marriage with Arnold “Arn” Froese in Whittier, California. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her son Jerram David Froese of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, Nicholee Carin Froese of Albany, NY; bonus children, Manuel de Jesus Guerra Garcia and Flor Amanda Vidal Asmomo of Copan, Honduras; sister, Judi Habben and husband Jim of La Habra, CA; and seven grandchildren, Coral, Calum, Diego, Izabella, Asa, Denzel, and Carol. Carol is preceded in death by her parents. 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with Pastor Melissa Krabbe officiating. Nettie Elizabeth Trost Bray, 82, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away July 9, 2022, at the Sterling Village. Nettie was born August 23, 1939, in Salem, Oregon to Walter and Georgia (McLaress) Trost. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three younger brothers, Gerald, George and Thomas. Growing up years were spent on the family farm north of Concordia. 

Nettie was active in 4-H and helping on the farm. She attended Sibley country school and graduated from Concordia High School in the class of 1957. She worked at JC Penney in Concordia where her job included changing window displays. That’s where Nettie was spotted by her future beau and husband, Jack Bray, in 1959. They married September 26, 1959 after dating for only three months. Shortly after, they moved to Manhattan where Nettie assisted Jack in managing a rural gas station. Four years and three children later the family moved to Fowler, for another gas station opportunity. 

In June, 1968, they moved a final time to Sterling where they had purchased Superbe Oil Co. In the community Nettie served as a Sunday School teacher at the Methodist Church and a Girl Scout leader. During the 1971-72 school year, she attended Sidney’s Hairdressing College in Hutchinson earning her cosmetology license. She also worked for JC Penney in Lyons and People’s Savings and Loan in downtown Sterling. April 9, 1979, Nettie suffered a major stroke and was hospitalized for a month in Wichita. Her spirit of independence and determination remained strong through a long rehabilitation and permanent disability on her right side. She was able to work alongside Jack at the Co-op Service Station for a number of years until their retirement in 2000. Signs of dementia became evident around 2015 and in 2017 Nettie and Jack sold their home and moved into one of the Sterling Manor cottages. Due to ill health they moved into the manor in October 2018 and Jack passed away unexpectedly in March, 2019. The Manor became the Village and Nettie continued to live there until her passing. 

Nettie is survived by her three children and spouses, Cindy and Darryl Wittich, Mount Hope; Wendy and Steve Fiehler, Sterling, and Jeff and Kristen Bray, Penn Yan, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and spouses: Chance and Sarah Fiehler, Stephanie and Robert Edgington, Jacob and Dakoda Fiehler, Wesley and Courtney Wittich, Kodi Fiehler, Tyler and Bethany Bray and Kelly Bray. And thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition, Nettie is survived by Jack’s sister and husband, Kathy and Gene Begnoche. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Dennis Corbett officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Judith “Ann” Engelland, 78, of Lyons, entered the presence of the Lord on July 9, 2022, at Country Living of Lyons. She was born June 3, 1944, in Lenora, the daughter of Leonard and Doris Carr Clydesdale. 

Ann has resided in Lyons and Chase since 1974, formerly of Lenora. She graduated from Lenora High School and received her Registered Nursing Degree from Ft. Hays State University. She worked as a RN at the Lyons Medical Center and Rice County District #1 Hospital for many years. Ann was known for her kindness and compassion and was loved by many patients and co-workers. She enjoyed caring for people around her. Ann was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons. Ann enjoyed gardening, especially her roses, and taking sunset photos. 

On February 24, 1994, Ann was united in marriage with Jack Engelland in Lyons. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her son, Andrew DuPont of Hayden, ID; two daughters, Robin Johnson of Spokane, WA, and Wendy DuPont of Deer Park, WA; stepdaughter, Amy Neisler of Lyons; brother, Robert Clydesdale and wife Sally of Lenora; two sisters, June Nold and husband Joe of Wichita, and Elaine Barton and husband Joe of Neosho, MO; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; stepson, Jon Engelland; and a grandchild.

He graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1971, and later graduated from Barton County Community Junior College with the class of 1973. Harold attended Ft. Hays State University pursuing a music major. He was a CNA at the former Hadley Regional Medical Center of Hays. Harold loved music, biking, and sail boating. He also played in a polka band. 

He is survived by his sister, Sherry Dobbins and husband Dan of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews. Harold is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Shirley Wille.

Brenda Renee Isaman Branstetter, 57, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2022 while surrounded by loved ones at her home in Kingman. She was born Oct. 1, 1964, at Seneca, to her parents Glen L. and Lois M. Fairchild Isaman. She was raised in Vermillion with her sisters Sandy (Kenny) Vernon, Connie Smith, Judy (Alvie) Meade, and Marsha Isaman; brother Mike (Vicki) Isaman; and spending time with her cousin Lisa (Michael) Gustin.

Brenda moved to Salina and then Lawrence for University. She would then move to Wichita where she met the love of her life. On March 13, 1993, she married Jeffrey Wallace Branstetter in Kingman. They moved to Kingman to raise their future family in 1994. Shortly after, they welcomed their daughter Bailey Branstetter; six years later they welcomed their second daughter Katelyn Branstetter. Brenda was excited for the upcoming birth of her first grandchild, Isla Renee Hook, between Bailey and her fiance Shawn Hook.

Brenda was a beloved pharmacist in her community. She was also a devoted member of Kingman United Methodist Church. 

Other survivors are sister-in-laws Jana (Don) Thimesch and Julie Pacino and step mother-in-law Mryna Schartz. She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Lois Isaman; father-in-law Jake Branstetter; mother-in-law Connie Vanlandingham, step father-in-law Duane Byers; brother-in-law Jim Branstetter; brother-in-law Daryl Pacino; niece Carla Barnes; and nephew Steven Schwant. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Kingman United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday at the Livingston Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Lois Isaman; father-in-law Jake Branstetter; mother-in-law Connie Vanlandingham, step father-in-law Duane Byers; brother-in-law Jim Branstetter; brother-in-law Daryl Pacino; niece Carla Barnes; and nephew Steven Schwant. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Kingman United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday at the Livingston Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

William A. “Trey” Jones, III, died Thursday, July 7, 2022, in Louisville, KY. He was born November 5, 1979, in McPherson, to William A. and Mary A. (Hoss) Jones.

Trey and his family were in Louisville for a basketball tournament when he and his family were struck by a vehicle. Sadly, Trey succumbed to his injuries. Amy and Ava are still hospitalized. Due to the circumstances all funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

Keith Everett Holtsclaw, 84, passed away July 9, 2022 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro. He was born December 22, 1937 in Fredonia, to Marvin and Lula (Dryden) Holtsclaw. 

He married Norine Fadley December 15, 1957 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Survivors include: daughter, Sarah Holtsclaw of Hillsboro; brothers, Bennie Holtsclaw, Richard Holtsclaw; sisters, Carol Laird, Allora Crownover; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded by: wife, Norine Holtsclaw in 2021; son, Mark Holtsclaw in 2014.

 A Celebration of Life service is being planned at the Marion Christian Church officiated by Pastor Carl Helm. Service time will be announced soon.&nbsp;
