Gary Lloyd Bontrager, 76, of Hutchinson, died July 11, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 2, 1946, in Hutchinson, to LeRoy and Esther (Schrock) Bontrager.
Gary graduated from Partridge High School and served in the United States Army and Kansas Army National Guard. Apart from working at Cessna for a short time, he was a proud farmer for most of his life and loved summer wheat harvest the most. Gary enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, car shows and auctions, and watching sports on TV. He especially enjoyed watching the Yellowstone TV series.
On December 21, 1968, Gary married Kay D. Repass, in Hutchinson. They shared 50 years of marriage before her death on September 4, 2019.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jill Bontrager and boyfriend Steve Gulick, of Hutchinson and Joni Bontrager and husband Brian Devers of Olathe; brother, Franklin Bontrager and wife Leta of Lakewood, CO; and several extended family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Berma Graber.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
