Susan J. Smith, 76, died July 5, 2022, at Azria Health, Wichita, Kansas. She was born July 8, 1945, in Monett, MO, to Carl and Frances (Burrow) Fricks.
Susan graduated from Joplin High School, Joplin, MO, Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education- social sciences, and Emporia State University with a master’s degree. She was a retired social sciences teacher from Hutchinson High School after twenty-one years in the classroom. Susan was an avid reader, a member of PEO, a dog mom to Nelson, and a very proud, doting grandmother to her five grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Hutchinson.
Susan is survived by: son, Tim (Ashley) Smith of McPherson; daughter, Cadi Smith of Hutchinson; five grandchildren: Courtney Smith of Springfield, MO, Amelia and Owen Smith of McPherson, and Mary and Lola Sanchez of Hutchinson; and a brother, Charles Fricks of Salt Lake City, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Carl and Bill.
Memorial service will be 11am Saturday July 9, 2022, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Dr, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Doctor Ted Blakley officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Grace Episcopal Memorial Garden columbarium.
Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
Family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, before the service.
