Julie Teeter, 96, of Hutchinson, passed away March 25, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born October 11, 1929, in Fortson, WA, to Theodore and Augusta (Breidfjord) Stark. This obituary is in her words.
I attended Bremerton High School and business college, both in Bremerton, WA. On my 23rd birthday, a friend convinced me to go dancing at the Officer’s Club in Bremerton, and that’s when I met Howard – a great dancer by the way! When Howard was sent overseas for the Korean War, I moved to San Francisco and worked for Hills Bros. Coffee. After the war, Howard was transferred to Millington, TN, where we were married on March 14, 1954. While on the military base, I worked as a secretary and volunteered at the military hospital as a “Gray Lady”. After Howard was discharged, we moved to Hutchinson and were thrilled to add four sons to our family: John in 1955, Jim in 1957, Dave in 1959 and Bob in 1961. I was employed at Hutchinson Community College for over 25 years and retired as the administrative assistant to the Dean of Instruction. I loved my job at the college and thoroughly enjoyed the people I worked with. I also enjoyed volunteering at the Cosmosphere (assisting them with registration of Boy and Girl Scout Troops), Reno County Blood Bank, Hutchinson Art Association, and Obie School Kindergarten. I loved music and couldn’t have lived without dancing, travelling (especially to Iceland), Netflix (except the tawdry parts!), reading, and most of all being with family and the many friends who were like family to me. Birthday club and lunch groups were always a highlight, as were all the many games we played: bridge (the best), cribbage, swoop, poker and Musical George (everybody's favorite!). I was a member of First Congregational Church, Hutchinson, and was a Golden Girl of Chapter BY, P.E.O. Honesty and a sense of humor were always important, as well as not taking things too seriously, keeping old friends, making new friends, and having fun!
I am deeply appreciative of the many, many kindnesses that were given to me by my dentist, doctors, friends and strangers who came forward and helped when I needed it. So many good people in this world – thank you to you all. Last but certainly not least, I thank my wonderful family who dropped everything many, many times and took the time to take care of Howard and me – my life (our lives) would have been pointless without them. I know how lucky I was to have known so many amazing people.
Julie is survived by: her husband of 72 years, Howard Teeter; sons, John (Pat) Teeter of Lenexa, Jim (Kathy) Teeter of Lebo, Dave (Amy) Teeter of Shawnee, Bob (Pam) Teeter of Dallas; grandchildren: Dan, Mike, Hannah, Angela, Chris, Katie (Axel), Jill (Beau), Chloe (Taylor), John (Lindsay), Julia, Mary Claire; granddaughters Dusty and Cori; step-grands Seth (Kelly Kate), Stephen (Kali), Mary (Ben), step-great grands Flora, Claire, Livvy, Sawyer, Fiona, Graham, Lucy, Charlie, Elsie and Betsy and many nieces and nephews.
