Dean Branscom, 92, passed away September 3, 2022, in Cunningham.&nbsp; He was born April 12, 1930, in Turon, to Roby Jackson Branscom and Alta Marie (Patterson) Branscom.

Dean was a 1950 graduate of Turon High School, Turon.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was a member of the Hutchinson Community College (HCC) Quarterback Club, the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, South Hutchinson, KS, and former 4-H leader.

On October 8, 1950, Dean married the love of his life, Beverly Jeanene Gray, in Turon.&nbsp; They shared over 70 years of marriage, prior to her death on November 10, 2020.

At an early age, Dean worked and hauled cattle with his father.&nbsp; Beginning in the 1950s, he worked as a ranch hand on the Higgins Ranch in Spivey, and worked at the ranch until he was called into the military service.&nbsp; Dean and Beverly treasured their time at the ranch and often shared those special memories with their family.&nbsp; They were blessed to be able to return to the area for several visits on their anniversary date.&nbsp; Upon returning from the military, they moved to Hutchinson where Dean became a foreman for the Gas Service, retiring with over 35 years of service.

During his life, Dean raised cattle, horses, and registered labs trained for hunting that were sent across the United States.&nbsp; His love for animals was passed down to his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Dean was always there to provide a helping hand with their pets and building projects in 4-H.&nbsp; He was always there to fix whatever needed attention in the home or shop.&nbsp; Dean enjoyed cutting firewood and he loved to mow!

Dean greatly enjoyed the grandchildren’s sporting events, following ball teams across Kansas and from Texas to Wisconsin.&nbsp; Dean was an avid supporter of the HCC Blue Dragons Men’s Basketball program.&nbsp; He delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program and was the ‘pie delivery man’ for the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church’s fair cafeteria project for many years.&nbsp; A highlight for Dean was in 2018, when he was able to be a member of the Kansas Honor Flight traveling party that went to Washington, D.C., along with his daughter, Kathy.

Dean always had a story to share, a great sense of humor, and a quick-witted response.&nbsp; You always left with a smile after a visit with Dean.&nbsp; His true passion was spending time with his family, whether at family celebrations and gatherings, or sitting in the bleachers with his wife, Beverly, cheering on the activities of their children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He did many things in his life, but the positions that he cherished the most were husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend.&nbsp; Dean was loved by so many.

Dean is survived by:&nbsp; his children, Allen Branscom of South Hutchinson, and Kathy (Scott) Hamilton of Turon; grandchildren, Casey Stiggins, Jennifer Shingleton, Allison (Jordan) Marshall, Katie Hamilton, and Conor Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Skylar Shingleton, Clayton Shingleton, Grace Marshall, and Cooper Marshall; sister, Karen Cooley of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; wife, Beverly; daughter, Shirley Stiggins; and siblings, Fern Fluke, Tommy Branscom, Lois Cline, Margaret Dykes, Bud Branscom, Dorothy Helm, and Richard Branscom.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Reverend Ronnie Dykes officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Turon Cemetery, Turon, with military honors to be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.&nbsp;

Mark Allen&nbsp;Lattimer, 66, died September 3, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1955, in Sterling, to Max C.&nbsp;Lattimer&nbsp;Sr. and Betty Jo (Miller)&nbsp;Lattimer.

Mark graduated from Lyons High School in 1973. He was the shipping and receiving manager at KMW Ltd. in Sterling for many years. Mark had worked in the parts departments at Young Motor Co. in Lyons and Conklin Cars in Hutchinson.

Mark dedicated many years of his life as a volunteer firefighter with the Rice County Fire Department. Mark was an avid gardener who loved making salsa and watching NASCAR as a Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lyons.

On December 9, 2005, Mark married Connie Jo (Pruner) Phillips. She survives.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Max Lattimer Sr.; a son, Richard Lattimer; and a brother, Max Lattimer Jr.

Vernon Dean Neufeld, 84, of Hutchinson, died September 3, 2022, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born January 15, 1938, in Hutchinson, to Peter J. and Martha (Wall) Neufeld.

Vernon graduated from Buhler High School in 1956. He was a former employee of Cessna as a Quality Control Manager for many years, Haven Steel, and along with his son Steve, was owner of S and V Enterprises, Inc. Vernon also was a farmer both for a living and because he really enjoyed it.

On June 1, 1957, he married Marlene Shirley Base, in Burrton. They shared over 65 years of marriage.

Marie Crawford, 81, of North Newton, passed away peacefully in her
sleep Monday, September 5th, 2022. She was born on December 9th, 1941, in
Newton, to Arthur Friesen and Rosella (Schmidt) Friesen. Rose graduated
from Newton High School in 1959. 

Rose
was a woman whose passion for Elvis was only second to her passion for her
husband and family. She spent most of her working life as a pharmacy technician
at Wilson Drug Store before retiring in 2004.

married Robert Keith Crawford on June 22, 1968. They were blessed with two
daughters: Kelly Ann and Christine Marie. 

Rose
is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Rosella Friesen, and daughter,
Karla Marie. She is survived by her husband, Robert Crawford; daughters, Kelly
(Louis) Brouillard and Christine Topping; sister, Linda (Ines) Flores; brother,

Kenny worked for the Harvey County Road and Bridge Department. &nbsp;He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Newton.

Connie L. (Koehn) Cornelsen, 74, died on September 1, 2022, at her residence in Wichita.

She was born on March 13, 1948, in Newton, the daughter of Nelson and Naomi (Sackett) Koehn.

On May 24, 1968, Connie was united in marriage to Kenneth Cornelson in North Newton. This year the couple celebrated 54years of togetherness.

Connie graduated from Newton High School, the class of 1966. She went on to Bethel College as a continuing education adult, where she received her degree in social science and work. She later furthered her education and received her masters degree in social work from Newman University in 2000.

Throughout Connie’s career she worked with compassion and care for those in need, working as a case manager for Youthville and Saint Francis Academy. Connie was currently employeed as a case manager for United Methodist Open Door, where she helped with the placement of 15 families into transitional housing.

Connie was very creative and enjoyed crosstiching, painting, and carving. As a natural caregiver, she loved serving her family and friends delicious homecooked meals. However, her greatest enjoyment in life was her family.

Connie is survived by her husband, Kenneth Cornelsen of Wichita; daughter, Michelle Sheriff of Newton; son, Robert Cornelsen and fiance, SaraJane Jeffries; sister, Janet Botterweck; beloved grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Nelson and Naomi Koehn and son-in-law, J. Kent Sheriff.

Margaret Marcene Rauch, 89, of Lyons, passed away September 3, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born December 19, 1932, in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Gail E. Height Watts. 

Marcene has resided in Lyons since 1960, formerly of Garden City. She attended Deep River High School, Deep River, Iowa. Marcene was a homemaker, nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan Society of Lyons, and a clerk at Fuller’s Market in Lyons. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lyons, and the Lyons Women’s Bowling League. Marcene enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially tennis, college basketball, and baseball. 

On March 13, 1950, Marcene was united in marriage with Marvin Louis Rauch in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2017. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louie, Gene, and Richard Watts; sister, Patricia Taylor; grandson, Richard Lattimer; and great-granddaughter, Emmy Strong. 

Marcene is survived by her son, Marvin L. Rauch Jr. and wife Lori of Little River; three daughters, Marcia L. Kepley and husband Dee of Sterling, Melinda M. Browning and husband Ray of Hutchinson, and Michelle L. Sauer and husband Joe of Geneseo; brother, John Watts of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Darlene Denison and Marilyn Ward both of Iowa; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

 Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Visitation will be 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.&nbsp;

Margaret Marcene Rauch, 89, of Lyons, passed away September 3, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born December 19, 1932, in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Gail E. Height Watts. Marcene has resided in Lyons since 1960, formerly of Garden City. She attended Deep River High School, Deep River, Iowa. Marcene was a homemaker, nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan Society of Lyons, and a clerk at Fuller’s Market in Lyons. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lyons, and the Lyons Women’s Bowling League. Marcene enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially tennis, college basketball, and baseball. On March 13, 1950, Marcene was united in marriage with Marvin Louis Rauch in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2017. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louie, Gene, and Richard Watts; sister, Patricia Taylor; grandson, Richard Lattimer; and great-granddaughter, Emmy Strong. Marcene is survived by her son, Marvin L. Rauch Jr. and wife Lori of Little River; three daughters, Marcia L. Kepley and husband Dee of Sterling, Melinda M. Browning and husband Ray of Hutchinson, and Michelle L. Sauer and husband Joe of Geneseo; brother, John Watts of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Darlene Denison and Marilyn Ward both of Iowa; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Dr. Don Dirksen, DDS, 86, finished his final marathon at his home in Wichita and went to be with the Lord August 31, 2022.&nbsp; He was the first-born son of Martin H. and Dorothy (Harrison) Dirksen on August 14, 1936 in Hutchinson.

As a child, Don traveled to many places with his parents. The first trip he ever took was at just six weeks-old.&nbsp; Before the age of baby carriers, Don was placed on a pillow on his mother’s lap and away they went to Oregon where Dad’s Uncle Harvey lived.&nbsp; Similar to the story, “ The Grapes of Wrath”, his parents were looking for a better way of life. It ended up they didn’t stay and headed back to Kansas six months later. &nbsp;When Don was older, they traveled to Northern California to see family for an extended period of time, but they always returned home to Kansas.

Another place Don and his parents visited frequently was Northwest Arkansas where his maternal grandparents lived.&nbsp; He spent many summers barefoot in swim trunks with his aunts and uncles playing in the creeks. Because of this, Don developed a love for the area that lasted a lifetime.

Don began boarding school at the age of 15.&nbsp; During this time, he would come home for the summers and work with his father painting houses all over Hutchinson. He appreciated and enjoyed the time we got to spend with his father while earning money to pay for his education. &nbsp;He graduated from Enterprise Academy, Enterprise, KS, in 1954. He returned to Hutchinson and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College to complete his prerequisites for college.&nbsp;

It was about this same time that he went on a blind date with Jalayne Chappel. They hit it off.&nbsp; On November 25th, 1959, they were married at the Congregational Church in Hutchinson on 11th&nbsp;Street.

Don knew at an early age that he wanted to be a dentist.&nbsp; He applied to and was accepted at the University of Nebraska College School of Dentistry. He and Jalayne moved to Lincoln. &nbsp;During dental school, Don worked long hours at the mental health hospital and for a fellow painter named Charlie.&nbsp; He maintained his status as an honor student while supporting his growing family.&nbsp; The twins, Mike and Mark by then made them a family of four. &nbsp;In 1961, he graduated from dental school and found a job in Tulsa, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Not long after their move, Ann was born.

After a couple of years in Tulsa, Don was offered an opportunity to work for the Health Department in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; Since both Don and Jalayne’s parents were in Hutchinson, the opportunity in Wichita was a clear choice for them. They packed up their family of five and moved to Wichita in 1963.&nbsp; Over the next 7 years, Don decided to go into private practice and their youngest child, Jill was born.&nbsp; He practiced dentistry 33 years and was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association.

Don enjoyed family time and made it a point to attend as many of his children’s and grandchildren’s events as he could.&nbsp; All of his free time was dedicated to his family and he made that time memorable. &nbsp;He always put his family first ahead of himself.

Reading non-fiction and memorizing poetry was one of his hobbies. Don loved knowledge and was a life-long learner. In fact, Don went back to school for a masters in exercise science.&nbsp; He didn't write the final thesis but that didn't matter to him because it was about the knowledge and not the piece of paper.

He always had classical music playing and loved attending live symphony performances.&nbsp; A piano player himself, he was able to play many of the pieces he liked to listen to.

Attending baseball games was always a family past time; he truly loved the game.

His all-time passion was running.&nbsp; He ran races whenever he could and enjoyed the competitiveness and camaraderie of his fellow running friends.&nbsp; He came in first or second in his age group almost every time he was in a race.&nbsp; Running wasn’t just for races as he loved to run in the park.&nbsp; Just last year he was running 6-8 miles regularly.

Along with running, Don enjoyed going to the YMCA. Not only to exercise but as a social outlet. He and Jalayne made many valuable friends there.&nbsp; From his dental classmates to his neighbors, friends were made and cherished.&nbsp; Don never knew a stranger. If he had a conversation with someone, he could tell you all about his new friend.&nbsp; He genuinely was interested in each and every person he talked to. He was forever optimistic and supportive of everyone.&nbsp; In everything he did or faced, he never gave up and remained strong in his faith. Don was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hutchinson.

Don is survived by:&nbsp; his wife of almost 63 years, Jalayne of Wichita; children, Mike Dirksen, Mark Dirksen, both of Wichita, Ann Baus (Mark) of La Crosse, and Jill Dirksen of Chicago; brother, Martin Harvey Dirksen (Mavis); sister, Carol Dirksen (Regis Yeager) all of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; Bryan Dyer, Veronica Kimple (Daniel), Leah Johnson (Nick), Olivia Baus and Dylan Dirksen; and four great-grandchildren; Hazel Kimple, Harrison Kimple, Jesse Johnson and Will Johnson.

Funeral service will be 11:30 am Friday, September 9, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson with Clark Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Visitation will be 9 am to 8 pm Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

Dave’s life began on September 21, 1955, in Florence.&nbsp; He was the son of Harold M. and Lois (Weyand) Huntley.&nbsp; Dave is a graduate of Marion/Florence High School.&nbsp; 

In his younger years, Dave loved to go skiing with his buddies at Marion Co. Lake.&nbsp; He was a pheasant and quail hunter and enjoyed fishing.&nbsp; Dave enjoyed motocross racing as a young man and had fun playing softball.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Erin Miller on January 15, 1991, at the Florence Christian Church, and they enjoyed 31 years of marriage.&nbsp; Dave was nearly always employed in law enforcement after working a short time in his younger years at Hesston Manufacturing.&nbsp; 

He was the Chief of Police in Florence and served Marion County as a deputy sheriff from February of 1985 to April of 1987 and again from January 2009 until his retirement in June of 2021.&nbsp; Dave also served with the Harvey County Sheriff from April of 1987 until February of 2008.&nbsp; 

Dave is survived by his wife Erin Huntley, sons Brandon Lee (Elizabeth) Huntley and David Huntley; siblings Jack (Geri) Huntley, and Kris (Galen) Hysom; sister-in-law Lola Huntley and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Dave passed away on Tuesday August 30, 2022, at Via Christi St Francis Hospital in Wichita.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Mike Huntley.&nbsp; 

Dave’s family will gather with friends on Saturday September 3, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Valley United Methodist Church for his memorial service led by Pastor Ron DeVore.&nbsp; He will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence at a later date.&nbsp; Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.&nbsp;

Carolyn Marie (Bradbury) Nading, 88, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born April 17, 1934, in Welch, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hosea and Bessie (McCrery) Bradbury. Carolyn was united in marriage to John Leander Nading, Jr. on June 1, 1952 in Altamont. While John went to Korea, Carolyn became a graduate of Labette County Community High School with the class of 1953. Carolyn and John started their married life in Coffeyville, later moving to Wichita and then to Moundridge in 1972. Carolyn was the Moundridge City Clerk for twenty-five years, from 1972 to 1997. She was a member of the Moundridge United Methodist Church and was Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in McPherson during the 1970’s and 1980’s. An avid fisherwoman, Carolyn earned the nickname of “Lucky”, as she always caught the most and biggest fish! Carolyn is survived by her husband, John of their home; her children, Karl Nading and his wife, Carol of Wichita; Audrey Diederich and her husband, Pat of McPherson, John Nading, III of Moundridge, Keryl Christian and her husband, John of Hutchinson, and Sharon Saylor and her husband, Lonnie of Hutchinson; brothers, Floyd (Valerie) Bradbury, Florida, Robert (Alice) Bradbury, Missouri, and Douglas (Marge) Bradbury, Louisianna; sisters, Judy (Gary) McGuinnes, Topeka, and Rosemary Sandy, Florida; grandchildren, Andrew Nading, Emma Lauer, Nic Winsky, Adam Winsky, Rusty Winsky, Gina Wedel, Rachelle Nading, Heather Jordan, Alexandria Danks, Angela Saylor, Rebecca Stoker, and Lucas Saylor; and 18 great-grandchildren. Anita Ingrid Neilson, 62, passed away on August 4th, 2022 at her home in Lindsborg, Kansas. 

Anita was born in Freemont, Nebraska to Astrida and Uldis Cepure on March 1st, 1960. As the second daughter of a pastor, Anita moved frequently with her family throughout her early years and attended many schools throughout the country. 

She attended Northwestern University for several years before following her mother to New York City to pursue a career as a pianist and model. Notably, in the 1980s, she studied privately with Dr. William Phemister and Dr. Lambert Dahlsten at Julliard School of Music, performed as a soloist for Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, appeared on the Joey Adam’s show, and performed at Café Versailles. 



In addition to her passion for music, Anita loved to travel. She visited Sweden and Jamaica, performing aboard cruise ships, and eventually ventured to Steamboat Springs, a small ski town in the mountains of Colorado, where she married Barry Alan Gross and had three children. Suffering from poor health, Anita moved to Lindsborg, to be closer to her mother. She worked as an accompanist at Smoky Valley High School and the Lindsborg Trinity United Methodist Church and additionally performed at the Swedish Crown and Vasa. 



Anita is survived by her son, Barry Gross; daughter, Sarah Bregman; and grandchildren, Kaya, Timothy, and Daphne. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Uldis Cepure and Astrida Neilson-Berrios; daughter, Brittany Gross; sister, Daina Rhoads; brother, David Cepure. 



A funeral service will be held for friends and family at Crick-Christians Funeral Home on Sunday, Septemeber 4th at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dallas Peterson of Lindsborg Trinity United Methodist Church. 

Inurnment and committal will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Trey was a 1998 graduate of Nickerson High School, Nickerson.&nbsp; He graduated from Southwestern College, Winfield, KS, in 2003 with a bachelors degree in Business.&nbsp; Trey currently holds the high jump record at Nickerson High School and at Southwestern College where he was named a ‘Track and Field All-American’.&nbsp; He went to work at Anheuser Busch Strother Field, Winfield, and was the warehouse manager for ten years.&nbsp; Trey earned a Masters Degree of Education from Southwestern College and was employed for five years as a Social Studies teacher at Ark City Middle School, Arkansas City.&nbsp; After leaving Arkansas City, he became the shop instructor and the head track and field coach at Nickerson High School for the past six years.&nbsp; Trey was responsible for the design and the layout of the new track facility at Nickerson High School which was completed in 2022.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing.&nbsp; Trey’s true passion involved woodworking and coaching track and field.&nbsp; He was always trying to give his students the opportunity and the avenue to be involved in the woodworking shop classes or to become a member of the track and field team.&nbsp; Trey was a friend to everyone.&nbsp; If anyone needed help, he could be counted on to be one of the first persons to show up to provide assistance and guidance to complete a task or project.&nbsp; He liked to travel, especially when it involved traveling to support his kids’ activities.&nbsp; Trey had many titles in his brief lifetime, but the ones he cherished the most were husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, and coach.&nbsp; He was an All-American athlete and an even better ‘all round good friend’.

On December 16, 2000, Trey married Amy E. Honeck, in Winfield. They shared over twenty-one years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Amy Jones of Nickerson; children, Hunter Jones, Ava Jones, and Creek Jones, all of the home; father, Bill Jones and Celeste Coonrod of Little River; mother, Mary Alice Hoss Jones of Sterling, KS; sister, Desiree (Brian) Newell of Ellsworth; grandparents, Bill and Phyllis Jones, Sr. of Hutchinson; and nieces, Madison, Brooklyn, and Reese Newell.

Juliana “Julie” (Schmidt) Stucky, 87, died on September 2, 2022, at Paramount Community Living and Rehab in Newton.

She was born on June 1, 1935, in Goessel,, the firstborn daughter of John and Susie (Buller) Schmidt. Julie grew up with her eight siblings in rural Burns, where she attended and graduated from Burns High School with the class of 1954.

On June 18, 1954, Julie was united in marriage to Leland Stucky in Burns. They celebrated 68 beautiful years of marriage this year.

Julie was employed by Hehr International as a foreman for 43 years before she retired.

She was a devoted and faithful member of Meridian Baptist Church in Newton, where she volunteered in the church nursery for many years and was an AWANA leader for 30 years. She loved spending time with and getting to know all of the children.

Julie enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.

Julie is survived by her husband, Leland Stucky; daughters, Barbara (Dan) Rexroat of Rosehill and Diane (Daryl) Walter of Newton; brothers, John Schmidt of Loveland, Colorado, Calvin Schmidt of Moundridge, and Dennis Schmidt of North Newton; sisters, Emmy Midkiff of Spokane, Washington, Fern Goodwin of Burns, and Berneda Jewell of Manhattan; and 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Deborah Louise (Stinchcomb) Schmidt, 69, died August 31, 2022, at her home in Newton.

She was born on December 20, 1952, in Ulysses, the daughter of Rhene and Mary Ann (Lauber) Stinchcomb. She grew up in Englewood, where she attended and graduated from Ashland High with the class of 1970. She would then take several classes at Dodge City Community College.

On December 6, 1991, Debbie was united in marriage to David Schmidt in Newton. The couple celebrated their 30th&nbsp;wedding anniversary last year.

For 25 years Debbie enjoyed working as a labtech at a clinic. When it was time for a career change she went on to work for High Street Company and Kitchen Corner for 16 years.

Debbie enjoyed gardening and liked to decorate for each season and occasion. She loved being a mother and grandmother, always making sure that her family was taken care of and that they knew how much she loved and cherished them.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Dave Schmidt; sons, Jason Schmidt, Matthew Vanover, and Rusty Vanover and wife, Ashley; sister, Pam Clark and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Amelia, Archer, Aletta and Lily; and many other family members and friends.

Jimmy Lee “Poppy” Flood, 84, formerly of McPherson, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at his home in Splendora, TX.&nbsp; He was retired from the Kansas Dept. of Corrections and was the print shop supervisor at the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He also worked for Kittell Printing in McPherson and owned and operated his own print shop in McPherson with son, Jimmy, Jr.

He was born August 9, 1938, in Cherryvale, to Bert and Robbie Irene (Allen) Flood.&nbsp; He spent most of his life in McPherson and graduated from McPherson High School in 1956.

On Jan. 18, 1958, he was united in marriage to Glova Ruth Linaweaver.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2014.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Jimmy, Jr., Tammy, and Debbie.

Jolene owned the restaurant, AT&amp;O in South Hutchinson, for many years.&nbsp; In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, floral arranging, and could fix just about anything.&nbsp; Jolene had an amazingly creative and artistic mind.&nbsp; Some of her favorite things were black coffee, crossword puzzles, and vanilla ice cream.&nbsp; Jolene dedicated many years to researching her family history and was a former member of the Reno County Genealogical Society.

Marlys Joan Bernard, 82, of Hutchinson, died on August 31, 2022, at Hospice House. She was born October 7, 1939, in Little River, to Glenn and Marjorie (Clarke) Stowe.

Marlys moved to Hutchinson in 1958 and graduated from Adela Hale Business College. Her first job was with the county attorney’s office in Hutchinson as a legal secretary. Marlys the worked for Dick Rome and Time Chambers in their private practices. She went back to work in the county / district attorney’s office in 1984, as its first full-time diversion coordinator. Marlys was a member of the Kansas Victims Assistance Association and the board of directors for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center of Hutchinson, serving as secretary, treasurer, and president. She retired as victim-witness coordinator for the Reno County district attorney’s office in 2007, after 23 years.

Marlys was a caring friend. She always sent cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions. She was also famous for being the “Cookie Queen” of Reno County. Marlys baked cookies for everyone that she loved. Those cards and cookies will be missed.

In 1999, Marlys received an award from the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual &amp; Domestic Violence and the Sexual Assault &amp; Domestic Violence Center of Hutchinson as a “Mother of Our Movement”, in recognition of contributions made to lay groundwork for advocates, victims, and survivors. She received the Liberty Bell Award from the Reno County Bar Association in 2000, in recognition of her contribution to the legal profession in Reno County.

Marlys is survived by: her husband of 51 years, Jewell R. Bernard; daughters, Debra J. Gardner (Greg), Kristi L. Bernard; son, Jewell R. Phyllis Lee Hendrickson, 77, of Hutchinson, died August 31, 2022, at her home. She was born February 5, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Joseph A. and Ola M. (Fletcher) Kunzie.

Phyllis graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964. She was a homemaker whose whole life revolved around her family. Phyllis also had a big heart for animals. She was of the Baptist faith.

On August 15, 1964, Phyllis married Donald J. “Donnie” Hendrickson. He died December 19, 2008.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents.

Phyllis Lee Hendrickson, 77, of Hutchinson, died August 31, 2022, at her home. She was born February 5, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Joseph A. and Ola M. (Fletcher) Kunzie.Phyllis graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964. She was a homemaker whose whole life revolved around her family. Phyllis also had a big heart for animals. She was of the Baptist faith.On August 15, 1964, Phyllis married Donald J. “Donnie” Hendrickson. Linda’s life began on May 31, 1952, in Salina. She was the daughter of Lester Eugene Geissert and Bertie (Biles) Hood and stepfather Loren Hood. 

Linda was united in marriage to John Zeiner on September 18, 2004, at Herington Lake. Linda and John were the owners and operators of J and L Tire in Herington for many years. They were active supporters of Herington Hearts Core Community. 

Linda is survived by her children Colleen (Chris) Garr of Lost Springs, Derek (Tonya) Summers of Herington, and Jeff Summers of Herington; her brothers; Gene, Lanny, and Bruce Geissert; and her sister; Rose Bayes; her  grandchildren Linda, Christopher, Christina, and Johnathon Garr, and Austin Summers; great grandchildren Remington, Donald, Cherokee and Edward. 

Linda passed away at her home on Tuesday August 30, 2022, surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John, granddaughter Angel Summers and two brothers Bud and Leo Geissert. The family will remember Linda privately with no public services.&nbsp;

David’s life began on May 19, 1974, in Newton. He was the son of Michael Wise and Lydia Swanson. David graduated from Newton High School in 1992 and went on to take some college courses in accounting.&nbsp; 

He married April Leete in 2005 in Newton, and worked as the Team Lead for Set Up at Master Brand in Newton,. He was an employee with Master Brand for twenty-three years.

In his free time, David loved all things Anime and Star Wars. He also enjoyed playing video games, especially Final Fantasy, but most of all he loved his family. His family includes his wife: April Wise; children: Ashley (Dustin) Fee, Steven Swatek, Summer Wise, Halie Wise, and Kevin Wise; grandchildren: Ruby Fee and Clarence Fee; parents: Michael Wise and Lydia Swanson; great grandmother: Dee Wise; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, and friends. David will be greatly missed by all.

David, at the age of 48, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at his home in Whitewater. Funeral Service for David will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Centre Point Church, Whitewater. Pastor Bill Carrie will be leading the service.

Millie Cherryholmes, 90, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Newton Medical Center. She was born March 23, 1932 in Fairview, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Fern (Carr) Colwell. She was united in marriage to Kenneth H. Cherryholmes. Millie worked at Hesston Hay &amp; Forage, working in the HR department for insurance, where she was an employee advocate. She retired in 2000 after 27 years. Millie was a 22 year volunteer for the Et Cetera Shop in Newton. She graduated from Wichita State University at the age of 77. Millie was a member of the League of Women Voters, Harvey County Democrats and the Red Hat Society. She was a Unitarian Universalist and was passionate in her acceptance of all people. She is survived by her children, Kendra (Jack "Martin") Hall, Bobbie (Kevin) Pawlowski, Leslie (Charlie) Wright, Kay Cherryholmes, Ken Cherryholmes, and Holly Cherryholmes; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, plus one great-great-grandson on the way; and many special nieces and nephews. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters and one brother. Ruth Agnes Arpin, 84, died August 31, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born April 10, 1938, in Clifton, to Albert and Erma (Gepner) Odette.

Ruth graduated from Clyde High School.&nbsp; For over 50 years, she ran a daycare out of her home. Ruth was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson.

On August 9, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lee “Bob” Arpin, in Clifton.&nbsp; He died December 4, 2018, after they shared over 60 years of marriage.

Ruth is survived by:&nbsp; children, Kim McLain of Hutchinson, Scott Arpin (Beth) of Kechi, and Tony Arpin of Hutchinson; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild (due to join the Arpin family in October).

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Hamel.

Parish Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, both at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th, Hutchinson, with Father Will Stuever officiating.&nbsp;
