Vernon James Stiverson, 97, long time resident of Maize, passed away April 28, 2022 in Colwich.&nbsp; He was born in Irving, November 2, 1924, the second son of James R. Stiverson and Julia M. (Frank) Stiverson. &nbsp;A veteran of WWII, he spent many years as an office supply salesman, retiring from Southwestern Office Supply in 1989.&nbsp; He subsequently worked for USD 266, spending much of his time meticulously marking football, baseball and softball fields.&nbsp; He was a man dedicated to his family, church and community.&nbsp; He loved fishing, taking care of his yard and was a big fan of the Shockers, Chiefs and Royals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard and granddaughter Jennifer D. (Stiverson) Germann.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 76 years Nona M. (Weller) Stiverson, daughter Janis (Stiverson) Clements of Moore, OK, son Richard J. Stiverson (Debbie) of Maize, son Roger E. Stiverson (Cindy) of Wichita, 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be at Baker Funeral Home in Valley Center, on May 9th&nbsp;from 5 to 7 P.M.&nbsp; Services will be held at Maize United Methodist Church, May 10th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m.

Edwin was born August 27, 1933, in the Pratt Ninnescah Hospital to Clyde S. and Orpha S. (Randle) Boots. He attended Isabel Consolidated School and one year at Kansas State College. 

He served two years in Japan with the US Army. February 11, 1956, he married Shirley Wehling. They were married 63 years before her death in 2019. Their daughter Diana was born in 1957 and they lived in Isabel for three years while Ed worked as a mechanic and welder. In 1959 he moved his family to the western Kansas farm. Ed and Shirley adopted two sons, Bradley in 1966 and Brian in 1968.

Ed served on various committees in Finney County, helping start a rural fire department on which he served 37 years. He served on the Garden City school board, the Finney County ASCS committee, and Conservation District board, the Finney County Extension executive committee, and the Ag committee. As part of the United Methodist Conference Farm Issues Task Force, he gave presentations about the plight of the farmers in the 1980s. He served 27 years as Garfield Township Clerk. 

Ed was lay leader of Kalvesta United Methodist Church, helping build a new church at Kalvesta in 1964. Ed and Shirley led a very active youth group at the Kalvesta church. They were inducted into the Kansas Master Farmer - Homemaker organization class of 1992. When crops were poor Ed ran a grader for Finney County, did mechanic work, drove a school bus, and measured land for the ASCS Office. He began no till farming in 1975. For several years he was asked to take part in seminars on no till and limited till farming. In 1990 he put together a state-of-the-art seed cleaning facility. In 2007 Ed retired from the seed cleaning.

Ed and Shirley moved in 2002 to Pratt where they purchased a home, adding a shop where Ed did many projects for their church, friends, and family. Ed served on Pratt First United Methodist Church Board of Trustees and as church treasurer. He was available to help with any project. His men’s devotion group provided fellowship and support. Ed and Shirley were faithful in supporting their church and many charities, and Ed made it his mission to do visitations to many.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Shirley, and grandson Ryan. Surviving him are his sister, Clydene Boots of CA; daughter Diana (Dr. Jerry) Nixon of Wichita; grandson Grant (Dr. Courtney) and great-grandson Riley Nixon of CA; sons Bradley (Alicia) Boots and grandchildren Aaron (Diane) and great-granddaughter Aliza; David (Anna) Boots; and Dayna Boots of Kansas City; Brian (Angela) and grandson Finley Boots of Dallas, as well as many extended family, including Shonda (Wheeler) Collins of Garden City, who they helped care for as a baby, and his sweetheart, Louise Reimer.

Visitation will be Friday, September 16, from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd, Pratt. David Wayne Lawrence, 65, of Valley Center, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born June 09,1957 to Robert Lee Lawrence Sr. and Joyce (Greathouse) Sucht in Downey, California.&nbsp; He attended Hadley Junior High and North High School. He was a lifelong resident of Wichita, Kansas and Valley Center.&nbsp; &nbsp;

After graduation, David worked at Burger Stan, as a CNA and co-owner of B &amp; D Construction in Wichita. &nbsp; He enjoyed talking with people and sharing his faith in Jesus.&nbsp; He loved all things outdoors including, swimming, scuba diving, water skiing, motor cross and horseback riding. David loved growing flowers and bird watching.&nbsp; He met a lifetime goal of building his family home.&nbsp; Besides his horses, most of all, David loved his family, his wife Susan, daughter Sarah, son-in-law Danny, all his grandchildren, and his dogs, Lola and Billie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Lawrence, his step-father, Donald Sucht, and sister, Tammy Lavon Lawrence.&nbsp;

Lloyd Roger Gallimore, Jr., age 77, passed away on Wednesday, Aug, 31, 2022 at the Stafford County Hospital, Stafford, KS. He was born on Aug. 27, 1945, in Rochester, MN., the son of Lloyd Roger, Sr., and Catherine (Molz) Gallimore. 

June 8, 1996, he married Emily Hayworth in Macksville. Lloyd was member of the Macksville Free Methodist Church, Christian Motorcycles Assc., and was a security guard for the Olympics in CA. 

Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Melanie Barkley, St.John; daughter, Charlene (John) Humbolt, (Childen and Grandchildren) of Wichita; brother Paul and his wife and son of Buffalo, MN and Brother Jon and his wife of Sturgeon Lake MN; two Brother-In-Laws Richard Hayworth (Shirley) and family and Jerry Hayworth (Donna) and their family. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and his son, Lloyd Roger Gallimore III.

Thais Mary Fritzemeier went home to Heaven on August 28th, 2022 at her home in Modesto CA. She was surrounded in comfort by her daughter Tammy Balos her son-in-law Dan Balos and her granddaughters Ashley Kee and Lauren House.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on December 25, 1936 to George Howard and Mary Glenn in Great Bend. 

She was the oldest of four children (Clarkie, Chuck, and Ruth) She spent her childhood in Wyoming and Kansas. Thais gave her life to Christ at the age of 13 and faithfully walked with Him for the rest of her life. She was an excellent student and an accomplished member of the debate team at Stafford High School.&nbsp;

Thais married Ronald Charles Fritzemeier on July 21, 1954&nbsp;at Calvary Baptist Church in Stafford. They were married for over 60 years. They had five children and lived in Kansas, Wyoming, and California.&nbsp;Thais was an avid reader and writer. She wrote many poems and short stories. She was a hardworking and dedicated employee retiring in 2008.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Thais was a beautiful example of a faithful servant to Christ. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronald and her son Randy, as well as her daughter-in-law Marca. 

She is survived by her children Rick (Marian) Fritzemeier, Ron (Debbie) Fritzemeier, Rob Fritzemeier, Tammy (Dan) Balos and her daughter-in-law Kathy Chapman. She is also lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, family members, and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Clyda Jayne Frederick, 71, of Clay Center, passed away on September 5, 2022, at her home surrounded by family. She was born October 15, 1950, in Lyons, the daughter of Walter Clyde and Bertha Lee Warner Pile. 

Clyda has resided in Clay Center for the past year and a half, formerly of Sterling. She graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1968. Clyda received a bachelor’s degree in education from Sterling College in 1972 and received her master’s degree in education at Friends University in 2006. 

She was a teacher at Sterling USD 376, Hutchinson High School, Little River High School and Raymond Jr. High School. Clyda was a member off Beta Sigma Sorority, Sterling Library Board, and past member of PEO Chapter C of Lyons. 

On August 3, 1969, Clyda was united in marriage with Russell “Mac” Frederick in Lyons. He survives of the home. 

She is also survived by her two sons, David Frederick and wife Shellee of Clay Center, and Mark Frederick and wife Amy of Louisburg; two sisters, Connie Sewell and husband Larry of Sterling, and Phyllis Mendenhall of Oxford, OH; and seven grandchildren, Brandon, Allie, Lauren, Blake, Brady, Kate and Sam. Clyda is preceded in death by her parents.

Glennis Lee Schropp, 91, of McPherson, KS Passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday September 6th, surrounded by her son Monte, and daughter in-law Tami, at her residence as she had requested.

Glennis was born in Burlington, on August 22, 1931, the daughter of Inez Lee (Wentworth) and Selden Burk Laird.

Glennis attended Beechwood School in Sedgwick county and graduated from Hartford High School, Hartford. Glennis loved her family. She proudly wore her "Schropp's Grandma" sweatshirt to her grandchildren and eventually her great grandchildren's sporting events and activities. 

Glennis was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. A die hard fan who loved them through both feast and famine. A love she shared with Don and Monte and eventually some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was able to celebrate both Super Bowl wins of the team. She and Don went to many games over the years and took children and grandchildren along to enjoy. On game day the Chief's flag always flew high at 615 E. Kansas.

Glennis spent countless hours preparing for and cleaning up after camping and fishing trips and hunting adventures. She would prepare whatever they brought to her kitchen to cook. 

Glennis was feisty and had a quick wit, but was also a very tender and compassionate woman. She was a quiet woman, who had a listening ear and a hot cup of coffee for anyone who needed it. She never imposed her wishes on anyone, but would let you know what she thought if you asked. "I guess, I guess" "Oh boy, oh boy" and "Oh sh-" were some of her most familiar sayings. Through the years and countless documents, Glennis' middle name has raised questions and spawned stories having been spelled both "Lee" and "Lea". Glennis said the latter was incorrect even though that's what is on her birth certificate. One thing is true, no matter how it is spelled, she has a nephew, great nephew, granddaughters, and great granddaughters who proudly bear the name of this beloved woman.

Glennis took great pride in her appearance while she was in the workforce. She worked for Farmers Alliance Insurance for 30 years. She was always dressed to the nines with perfectly manicured nails and her hair done just right. Because of this, Glennis was admired by many. She loved her friends and coworkers and enjoyed bringing her grandchildren to the annual Easter egg hunt, and attending the retiree's dinner with her sister as her plus one. She joked that this November she would have been retired for 30 years so she would get paid to not work for as many years as she had worked. After retirement Glennis worked briefly for the Hospital auxiliary, a position she loved until family needs became more pressing.

She took care of many people through the years. Her sons when they had health challenges, with train trips to St. Louis and later weekly trips to Wichita. Don was diagnosed with Leukemia and they dealt with that together as a couple. Some time after, upon her fathers passing, Glennis and Don moved her mother in with them and cared for her until she returned to Arkansas in 1995. She took care of Don in their home until he passed in 2002, according to his wishes. He commented on their final anniversary together "You know we've been together for 50 years". She always made it a point to offer care to those who needed it.

Glennis L. Laird was united in marriage to Donald D. Schropp on February 10th, 1952, in Hartford. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, KS. This union was blessed with five children, one daughter, and four sons. Ginger, Michael, Monte, Mark, and adopted son Ron Wege. The family moved to Peabody, then Newton, until 1962, when they settled in McPherson.

Glennis Lee Schropp, 91, of McPherson, KS Passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday September 6th, surrounded by her son Monte, and daughter in-law Tami, at her residence as she had requested.Glennis was born in Burlington, on August 22, 1931, the daughter of Inez Lee (Wentworth) and Selden Burk Laird.Glennis attended Beechwood School in Sedgwick county and graduated from Hartford High School, Hartford. Glennis loved her family. She proudly wore her "Schropp's Grandma" sweatshirt to her grandchildren and eventually her great grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Glennis was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. A die hard fan who loved them through both feast and famine. A love she shared with Don and Monte and eventually some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was able to celebrate both Super Bowl wins of the team. She and Don went to many games over the years and took children and grandchildren along to enjoy. On game day the Chief's flag always flew high at 615 E. Kansas.Glennis spent countless hours preparing for and cleaning up after camping and fishing trips and hunting adventures. She would prepare whatever they brought to her kitchen to cook. Glennis was feisty and had a quick wit, but was also a very tender and compassionate woman. She was a quiet woman, who had a listening ear and a hot cup of coffee for anyone who needed it. She never imposed her wishes on anyone, but would let you know what she thought if you asked. "I guess, I guess" "Oh boy, oh boy" and "Oh sh-" were some of her most familiar sayings. Through the years and countless documents, Glennis' middle name has raised questions and spawned stories having been spelled both "Lee" and "Lea". Glennis said the latter was incorrect even though that's what is on her birth certificate. One thing is true, no matter how it is spelled, she has a nephew, great nephew, granddaughters, and great granddaughters who proudly bear the name of this beloved woman.Glennis took great pride in her appearance while she was in the workforce. She worked for Farmers Alliance Insurance for 30 years. She was always dressed to the nines with perfectly manicured nails and her hair done just right. Because of this, Glennis was admired by many. She loved her friends and coworkers and enjoyed bringing her grandchildren to the annual Easter egg hunt, and attending the retiree's dinner with her sister as her plus one. She joked that this November she would have been retired for 30 years so she would get paid to not work for as many years as she had worked. After retirement Glennis worked briefly for the Hospital auxiliary, a position she loved until family needs became more pressing.She took care of many people through the years. Her sons when they had health challenges, with train trips to St. Louis and later weekly trips to Wichita. Don was diagnosed with Leukemia and they dealt with that together as a couple. Some time after, upon her fathers passing, Glennis and Don moved her mother in with them and cared for her until she returned to Arkansas in 1995. She took care of Don in their home until he passed in 2002, according to his wishes. He commented on their final anniversary together "You know we've been together for 50 years". She always made it a point to offer care to those who needed it.Glennis L. Laird was united in marriage to Donald D. Schropp on February 10th, 1952, in Hartford. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, KS. This union was blessed with five children, one daughter, and four sons. Ginger, Michael, Monte, Mark, and adopted son Ron Wege. September 5, 2022 in Colwich.&nbsp; She was born in Blue Rapids, May 8, 1924, to Eldon and Ethel (Dutton) Weller. &nbsp;

A 1942 graduate of Blue Rapids, she worked in Wichita aircraft plants
during WWII while her fiancé, Vernon Stiverson was fighting in Italy.&nbsp;
Later, she spent time working as a grocery clerk, an office clerk and a
stay-at-home mom.&nbsp; She was dedicated to family, church and
community.&nbsp; She loved taking care of her flowers, writing poetry,
supporting her family’s activities and was a big fan of the Shockers, Chiefs
and Royals.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of
76 years Vernon, her parents, brother Bradford Weller, brother Richard Weller,
sister Helen Cardey, twin sister Donna Nicks and granddaughter Jennifer D.
(Stiverson) Germann.

She is survived by daughter Janis (Stiverson) Clements of Moore,
OK, son Richard J. Stiverson (Debbie) of Maize, son Roger E. Stiverson (Cindy)
of Wichita, 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She
was born on May 16, 1924, in McPherson, the daughter of John and Irene
(Pieratt) Akers.&nbsp; At the age of two, Ione moved with her parents and
brother to a farm near Conway.&nbsp; There, she lived until 1946.&nbsp; She
graduated from McPherson High School and attended McPherson College.&nbsp;
&nbsp;&nbsp;

She
was united in marriage to Lester E. Johnson on January 23, 1946, at the Messiah
Lutheran Church in Lindsborg.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children.&nbsp;
They lived on a farm east of Bridgeport, for 65 years.&nbsp;

Ione
was a member of the Assaria Lutheran Church.&nbsp; She was active in WELCA, The
Victory E.H.U., and the Friendly Valley 4-H Club.&nbsp; Ione’s main source of
joy was her family.&nbsp; She had a deep love and concern for each member and
was always appreciative of their many displays of respect and love.&nbsp;

Survivors
include: four children, Larry (Pamela) Johnson of Madison, WI, Loren (Cholly)
Johnson of Assaria, Linda (Verne) Hubalek of Lindsborg,&nbsp; and Loretta
(Joel) Mayfield of Springfield, VA; three grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren;

2022, at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City.

December 28, 1960, in Great Bend, the daughter of Earl R. and Geneva M.
Mills Adams. Kathy has resided in Overland Park for the past fifteen years.


Prior to residing in Overland Park, she traveled with her husband in the
military and lived in various locations throughout the United States and
overseas. Kathy worked in retail in various organic specialty food stores, having
worked at Whole Foods in Overland Park, for the past fifteen years. She was an
amazing cook, avid gardener, enjoyed reading and doing word search, loved
animals, and most of all spending time with her family.

 On January 31, 1981,
Kathy was united in marriage with Randall Swigart in Great Bend. He
survives of the home. She is also survived by her two daughters, Tiffany Nelson
and husband Mark of Kansas City, MO, and Contessa Drummond of Raymore, MO;
brother, David Adams; two sisters, Gladys Miller of Andover, KS, and Lisa
Yadgar of Grandview, MO; and four grandchildren, Wesley Nelson, Isaac Nelson,
Lydia Drummond, and Nolan Drummond. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M.,

Irene was born August 31, 1917 in Oklahoma City, OK
to the late Aaron and Sigrid (Schorling) Segerhammar. She was the widow of
Gilbert Bengtson, who passed away in 1990. 

Irene was a school teacher, a
bookkeeper, and a homemaker and mother. She was a longtime member of Bethany
Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. 

Survivors include her sons: John Bengtson and Don
Bengtson (Kathey), both of Lindsborg; sister-in-law: Bea Bengtson, of
Clarksville, MD; grandsons: Kenneth Bengtson, of McPherson, Brad Bengtson
(Jessica), of McPherson, Brian Bengtson, of Lindsborg, and Mark Bengtson
(Courtney), of Wichita; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous great-great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Irene was preceded
in death by her parents; husband: Gilbert; and 8 brothers and sisters.

passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at Moundridge Manor. He was born June 9,
1926 in Galva, the son of Dan H. and Susie (Unruh) Becker.



Vernon was a farmer for 85 years. He was a
member of Lone Tree Mennonite Church in Galva.



Vernon was united in marriage to Elfrieda Mae
Koehn on May 8, 1949 in Galva, Kansas. She survives.

Becker of Tonasket, WA; daughters, Joyce (Brad) Dirks of Hesston and Karen

fondly known as “Pastor Dave”, of Sedgwick, was called to his heavenly
home.



Born on December 6, 1957 in Camden, New Jersey,
David has always had an adventurous soul and heart of a scholar. After earning

and service to the community through obtaining his Masters of Divinity at

Pastor Dave continued his devotion to God
through ministry in various churches in Colorado, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and
finally, Kansas. In his ministry, Pastor Dave strived to be a source of
comfort, peace, and compassion for his congregation. His work was never done,
waking up early to study the scripture, making late night phone calls or
hospital visits to reassure those during their challenging days, or working
diligently to find the best scripture verse to read at a wedding he officiated.
Pastor Dave made certain that he was present with his congregation through
their tragedies and their joys; a true shepherd. Pastor Dave’s service reached beyond
his own church, having served as a mentor to Chaguanas Mennonite Church and as
a teacher to aspiring pastors at the West Indies Theological College in
Trinidad &amp; Tobago.



David’s love of God and his congregation was
echoed by the love for his family. David married the love of his life, Carole,
on June 9, 1984. David and Carole would go on to have two children, Laura and
Katie. David shared many adventures with his family, including canoeing trips
down the Susquehanna river, visiting Andre the Seal in Maine, skating the
frozen Rideau Canal, and reading every museum sign, much to his kid’s chagrin.



In recent years, David graduated to being “Opa”
with the birth of his three cherished grandsons, Connor, Collin, and Caysen.
David adored being their grandfather… racing the car as they drove down the
driveway, saving snakes and frogs he found to show the boys, and taking them
hiking, much like he did with his own girls.



David was greeted at heaven’s gates by his
mother, Ruth, and father Norman, as well as his in-laws Warren and Ella, who he
treasured as much as his own.



David’s memory and legacy will be carried on
through his wife, Carole, daughters Laura (Daniel), Katie (Josh), grandsons
Connor, Collin, and Caysen, cousins Lynne, Judy, and Gale, and sisters-in-laws
Janice (Jerry) and Linda, along with various nieces and nephews (and great
niece and nephews), and the many people he touched through his spiritual
leadership and friendship.

Letha “Ione” (Akers) Johnson, 98, of
Lindsborg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at
Bethany Home, Lindsborg.&nbsp; Besides being a farm wife,&nbsp;Ione worked at
Bethany College for a few years, and then in the dietary department at Bethany
Home, Lindsborg for over 20 years.

She was born on May 16, 1924, in
McPherson, the daughter of John and Irene (Pieratt) Akers.&nbsp; At the age
of two, Ione moved with her parents and brother to a farm near Conway.&nbsp; There, she lived until 1946.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High
School and attended McPherson College.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Lester E.
Johnson on January 23, 1946, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg.&nbsp;
This union was blessed with four children.&nbsp; They lived on a farm east of
Bridgeport, for 65 years.&nbsp; 

Ione was a member of the Assaria Lutheran
Church.&nbsp; She was active in WELCA, The Victory E.H.U., and the Friendly
Valley 4-H Club.&nbsp; Ione’s main source of joy was her family.&nbsp; She had
a deep love and concern for each member and was always appreciative of their
many displays of respect and love.&nbsp; 

Survivors include: four children, Larry
(Pamela) Johnson of Madison, WI, Loren (Cholly) Johnson of Assaria, Linda
(Verne) Hubalek of Lindsborg, and Loretta (Joel) Mayfield of Springfield,
VA; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
seven step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; and many extended
family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband, and two brothers, Leland Akers and Don Akers.

The family will receive friends from 5:00
PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, September 12, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home,

Calvin Gene Blanton, 66, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Calvin was born August 24, 1956 in Wilson, OK, the son of Jimmie Lee and Treeta LeVelle (Cole) Blanton.&nbsp; 

On December 16, 1992, Calvin married Karla Frederick in Hutchinson.&nbsp; &nbsp;Calvin worked for Midwest Iron Management as a crane operator.&nbsp; He enjoyed Harley Davidsons Motorcycle’s and playing the lottery and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Treeta; ex-wife, Shirley McGraw; and two brothers, Jarron Blanton and Danny Ray Blanton. 

Calvin is survived by his wife, Karla; a son, Shane (Cassie) Blanton; four siblings, Thomas (Kathi) Blanton, Treeveala (Ralph) Blanton, Judy (Richard) Yingling, and David (Terrie) Blanton; one sister-in-law, Elli Blanton; two grandchildren, Seth and Ethan Blanton; numerous nieces and nephews and his dog, Susie. 

Per Calvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place.&nbsp;&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Gaylen Dean Kickhaefer was born May 6, 1941, to Herman and Amanda (Timm) Kickhaefer in Woodbine. He was baptized May 25, 1941, and confirmed on April 17, 1955, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Gaylen lived on the family farm southeast of Woodbine while growing up and attending the Woodbine Schools. He graduated from Woodbine High with the class of 1959. After graduation, Gaylen worked on a custom cutting crew for a summer.

He was united in marriage to Carol Beth Gillett on November 3, 1960, and were blessed with 61 years together. To the union, six children were born: Gail, Todd, Van, Cindy, Debbie, and Nancy. Gaylen and Carol made a life of farming and lived all their married life on the farm outside of Woodbine. Together, they ran a hog and cattle operation. Gaylen worked for the Woodbine Co-op and the Navarre Co-op until 1976 when he went full time farming.

Gaylen was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol, his parents, son Van and grandson T.J. He is survived by son Todd; daughters Gail (Matt) Nemmers, Cindy (Tracy) Rietzke, Deb (Jeff) Meisenheimer, and Nancy (Glen) Brockmeier. He is also survived by his grandchildren Eric Albrecht, Brittany Kickhaefer, Amanda and April Kickhaefer, Kylie (Michael) Yeager, Morgan (Fiancé Nick Boeth) Rietzke, Kelbi and Kamryn Meisenheimer, Holly, Meghan, Amber, and Tyler Brockmeier, eight great- grandchildren and a brother Mark (Barb) Kickhaefer.

Gaylen was an avid athlete and sports fan his entire life. He told stories of many town team basketball and baseball games and the activities that often accompanied those events. Gaylen coached his boys in baseball when they were young and loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. One would love to know the miles he put on vehicles driving to and from ballgames. Gaylen also enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends on fishing trips. The stories he would tell from those memories brought a smile to his face.

Visitation will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington on Sunday September 11th&nbsp;from 4 – 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Monday September 12th&nbsp;at 10:3-0 a.m. at the church with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. RuthAnn Sidebottom, 78, arrived at her destination on life’s journey to be in paradise with her Jesus, August 31, 2022.&nbsp; She was born March 24, 1944, in Hutchinson, to George E. Mitchell and Hazel (Troop) Mitchell.

RuthAnn was a 1962 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She also graduated from St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Nursing.&nbsp; RuthAnn was an Xray Technician and Certified Mammographer, working in various hospitals, clinics, and doctor offices.

On August 30, 1969, she married Gaylord Sidebottom, in Dodge City.&nbsp; They shared over 37 years of marriage, prior to his death on October 21, 2006.

RuthAnn is survived by:&nbsp; her daughter, Gay Lee (Ronald) Johnson of Beeler; sister, Millie Schrock of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Zane (Jennifer) Johnson, Jacob (Kayla) Johnson, and Clayton (Alex) Johnson; five great-grandchildren; nephews, Jeff (Kathy) Schrock and Tim (Lisa) Schrock; and niece, Teresa Schrock.

Doris Closson, age 98, passed away at her home on September 5, 2022.&nbsp; She was born August 31, 1924 in Norwich, and grew up on a farm near Belmont.&nbsp; The daughter of Ernest and Wilma Trostle, she attended school in Belmont.&nbsp; She was a lifetime resident of Kingman County.

She was the bookkeeper for Whitmer’s International Harvester and Buick Dealership for many years, an active farm wife and owner of a custom drapery business.&nbsp; She was active in the Kingman Christian Church, the Kingman County 4-H program and was a Community Leader of the Hawk 4-H club.&nbsp; After moving to town, she spent many years as a hospital auxiliary volunteer at Nu-2-U resale shop in downtown Kingman.&nbsp; She was also active in other local civic, community and social organizations.

Doris loved all kinds of needlework, crafts, playing cards, camping and traveling.&nbsp;

She met Clarence Closson at a 4-H camp in Kingman when she was in grade school.&nbsp; They were married on November 11, 1945.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence who passed away in 1992, her parents Ernest and Wilma, and her brothers Dee Trostle of LeRoy, Kansas and Ernie Trostle of Denver, Colorado.&nbsp;

Doris is survived by two daughters Karen Sue Schulteis (Gary) of Greenfield, Iowa, formerly of Anthony, and Diana Lea Drake (Jeff) of Freeland, Washington, formerly of Kingman; 6 grandchildren, Katrina Schulteis of Greenfield, Iowa, Benjamin Schulteis (Ellie) of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, Landon Schulteis (Hayley) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Austin Drake of Lenexa, Sean Drake of Ellensburg, Washington and Megan Drake of University Place, Washington.&nbsp; She was the very proud great-grandmother of Jane Ada Schulteis, daughter of Ben and Ellie.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 14th&nbsp;at the Kingman Christian Church.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening also at the Livingston Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.&nbsp;

Robert L. Young, 85, died Aug. 29, 2022 at Wheatlands Healthcare Center, Kingman.

He was born Feb. 28, 1937, at Kingman the son of Irvin and Iantha Harner Young.&nbsp; A resident of Kingman County most of his life, he was a retired farmer.

Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church; was a Kingman High School and Friends University graduate where he graduated Magna Cum Laud; and was a U.S. Army veteran.

On Nov. 15, 1980, he married Nancy Morris Goset; she died Jan. 9, 2012.&nbsp; Survivors include his sister Phyllis Howerton and her husband Dale; step-daughters Cheryl Yoder and husband Stan, and Christy Trollope and her husband Mark; niece Erin Rude and husband Dan; and great-nieces Taia, Tenley and Lily.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his brother Charles.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with the family receiving friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Belmont.

Vernon D. Becker, 96, of Moundridge, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at Moundridge Manor. He was born June 9, 1926 in Galva, the son of Dan H. and Susie (Unruh) Becker. Vernon was a farmer for 85 years. He was a member of Lone Tree Mennonite Church in Galva. Vernon was united in marriage to Elfrieda Mae Koehn on May 8, 1949 in Galva. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Don (Trula) Becker of Tonasket, WA; daughters, Joyce (Brad) Dirks of Hesston, and Karen (Troy) Barnt of McPherson; seven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Twila (Cleo) Jantz of Winton, CA and Lovella Koehn of Transylvania, LA. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter, Heidi Joy Dirks. Della Mae Dirks, 86, of Buhler, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born February 29, 1936, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Henry F. and Bertha (Buller) Neufeld. Della graduated from Buhler High School and later attended Bethel College in Newton for one year. She married her high school sweetheart, Leon Keith Dirks on September 30, 1956. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together. To this union two sons were born, Daniel Leon and Toby K. Della was a member of Buhler Mennonite Church, where she was active in the sewing circle. She loved music and was choir director and played piano at the church. Della was very talented and creative and enjoyed crocheting and wheat weaving. Della and Keith loved traveling together and especially enjoyed their time in La Veta and Cuchara, Colorado. Della is survived by her two sons, Dan and wife, Nicole Dirks, and Toby Dirks; granddaughter, Tiffany and husband, Nic, Miller; grandson, Justin and wife, Jessie, Dirks; great-grandchildren, Carson and Coen Miller, and Quinn and Greyson Dirks; and sister, Sue Regier. Della’s family thanks Buhler Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community for all the great care and genuine love given to our parents. Cremation is planned.
