Marvin Ray Estabrook, 77, of Sterling, passed away October 5, 2022, at his home. He was born April 5, 1945, in Sterling, the son of John L. and Hazel D. Cruth Estabrook. 

Marvin was a longtime Rice County resident, graduating from Sterling High School with the class of 1964. Marvin retired from Lyons Salt Company in 2016 after working for the company for 40 years. In his early years, he worked for Snodderley Lumber Company in Clearmont, Missouri and Eaton Transmission Department in Shanendoah, IA. 

He served in the United States Army as a military police officer, finishing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in 1965 before serving in Vietnam, after which he was honorably discharged at West Point, NY in 1968. Serving in the Hutchinson Army National Guard, as well as attending Calvary Baptist Church in Sterling. He was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post #128 and Lyons VFW. 

Marvin enjoyed watching sports, playing softball, basketball and co-ed volleyball, and most of all spending time with his family. On November 22, 1969, Marvin was united in marriage with Cheryl Kelley in Clearmont, Missouri. 

Cheryl resides at home. He is also survived by daughter, Andrea Higgins and husband Jake of Lyons; his son, Steven Estabrook and wife Aubrey of Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren, Kai and Adeline Estabrook; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil Estabrook; and sister, Darlene Young. 

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 14, 2022, at the Sterling Community Cemetery, with Pastor Dale Jordan officiating. Military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard and the Sterling American Legion Post #128.  Lunch will be served at Calvary Baptist Church after services.&nbsp;

Neoma Epp passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022 at age 98 , at Prairie Sunset Home, surrounded by family.&nbsp; She was a life long resident of the Pretty Prairie community.&nbsp; Throughout her 4 years of residence at Prairie Sunset she continued her positive, gracious approach to life and built loving friendships with residents and staff.

Neoma was born February 7, 1924 in Hutchinson, to Fred H. and Ella Graber Krehbiel.&nbsp; She was the oldest of 5 children being big sister to Doris, Veda, Leland "Tony", and Reta.&nbsp; She attended Savage Grade School through 8th grade and graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1942.&nbsp; She attended Bethel College for one year, then worked in Wichita for the Revenue Office.&nbsp; She also worked at the local bank for several years before and after marriage.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On June 1, 1947 Neoma and Albert F. Epp were united in Holy Marriage and this union was blessed with two sons, Ed and Larry.

Neoma considered her role as a homemaker to be a calling.&nbsp; Her skill and graciousness made homemaking an art form, one in which she excelled.&nbsp; Through the years she contributed to the community and church in many ways including 4-H leader, den mother, van driver for Prairie Sunset Home, 50 year member of FCE, charter member of Vesper Society, and many others.&nbsp; She actively supported the MCC Relief Sale and through the years made hundreds of poppy seed rolls, noodles, angel food cakes, and pies for the effort, and also embroidered countless sets of tea towels and baby quilts.&nbsp; Neoma had an entrepreneurial spirit with selling Stanley Home Products for many years and also baking and selling hundreds of pies which were highly sought after in the community.&nbsp; She was a life long member of her beloved First Mennonite Church.&nbsp; In everything Neoma did, she extended graciousness, kindness, and hospitality.&nbsp; She was creative and ingenious which also enabled a great sense of humor and wit.

Predeceasing Neoma were husband Albert, parents Fred and Ella, brother Tony, and sisters Doris and Veda.

Surviving to honor her memory are 2 sons Ed (Sherry), Independence; Larry (Monica), Pretty Prairie; 4 grandchildren Leslie (Justin) Gordon, Topeka; Nathan (Cynthia) Warrensburg, MO; Tyler (Leslie) Pretty Prairie; and Justin (Liz) Topeka, and 8 great grandchildren; and a sister Reta Krehbiel, Pretty Prairie.

Celebration of Life services will be held Thursday, October 13, 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wednesday, October 12 at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with family present 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Darwin Ray Francis, 86, Attica, Farmer/Stockman, Agribusiness Leader and Cooperative System Activist passed away peacefully on October 8, surrounded by his family. Darwin was born in the Galloway Hospital in Anthony, to Ray &amp; Evelyn Francis June 8, 1936.&nbsp; According to notes written by Evelyn&nbsp; in his baby book, he was very strong, and could crawl by 5 months and was walking at 10 months.

That early strength seemed to set the stage for the rest of his life.&nbsp; He rented his first 160 acres of wheat and began farming on his own at age 17. Darwin attended Harper County Schools and graduated from Harper High School in 1955. He was involved in 4-H and FFA through high school.

He attended Kansas State University &amp; received a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1958. While attending KSU, he worked for the KSU Beef Barns, was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, ARMY ROTC, the KSU Meats Judging Team and Collegiate 4-H.&nbsp; While serving on the Barn Dance Committee his senior year, he met a sassy red head named Patricia Todd from Altamont, Kansas &amp; they began dating.&nbsp; Several months later, Darwin proposed &amp; told Pat she could either have an engagement ring, or him….she chose Darwin &amp; they were married October 25, 1958 in Altamont, Kansas.

After their marriage, Darwin &amp; Pat were stationed in El Paso, Texas where Darwin completed his military service. Two years later, the couple returned to Harper County where that original quarter of land beckoned &amp; they began farming. Over the next few years, the farm and their family grew, when in 1961 they welcomed a daughter, Carol and in 1962, a son Jon joined their family.&nbsp; The family of 4…plus many young “hired hands” from the Attica &amp; Harper communities, worked together and built a cattle and wheat farming operation just outside of Attica, Kansas that successfully provided a living for their family for the next 60 years.

Darwin’s work ethic and desire to elevate the voice of the wheat producer in local and regional cooperative systems was a key motivator behind his life-long advocacy focused on sustaining the farmer’s voice in a strong Cooperative System. In addition to being named Star Young Farmer of Kansas at age 30 in 1966, He was one of the youngest Board members elected to the Anthony Co-op board of directors by his election that same year. He continued this local leadership for several decades. In 1974 he was elected by his peers to serve as District 6 board member to the Union Equity Cooperative Exchange based in Enid, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He went on to serve as Vice President in 1983 and President in 1984..

Darwin served as a founding advisory council member of the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center located at KSU in Manhattan, Kansas. He was especially proud of securing a key donation in 1984 which served as a foundation in launching the center. The Arthur Capper Cooperative Center (ACCC) is a public-private partnership between the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ageconomics.k-state.edu/">Department of Agricultural Economics</a>&nbsp;at Kansas State University and the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.kansasco-op.coop/">Kansas Cooperative Council</a>.

Darwin took pride in his stewardship of the land as a custom farmer and building strong relationships with multiple generations of land owners.&nbsp; “It was always an honor to look at the fields with Darwin Francis,” said Karen E Robinson when learning of Darwin’s passing recently. “Goodbye to someone who taught me most of what little I know about farming.&nbsp; I think that includes the attitudes of farming: very practical, with a perspective to how things had changed &amp; still might (do you know how the yield on corn has changed!?), and a clear view of what you can change / can’t change / might be able to change if only it would rain.”

Darwin was predeceased by his parents Ray and Evelyn and his brother Marlan. Darwin is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Carol Bush (Don Schilling) Wichita, son Jon Francis (Tammy), Kingman, his sister Joyce Waggoner, Tribune and brother Gene Francis (Connie) of Wichita.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of pride. He loved learning of their exploits, hosting them for “Life Lessons” at the farm, traveling with them to KSU Bowl Games and spent many hours traveling across Kingman and Pratt County to ball games, tennis matches, concerts and ‘showing up’ for them in acts of service which showed them he cared.&nbsp;

Grandchildren include:&nbsp; Anne Marie Bush, Kingman; Justin Bush (Katie), Wichita; Emily Bush, Newton;&nbsp; Kayla Fobes, Kingman and Jagger Francis, Kingman.&nbsp; Great-grandchildren include Felicity, Malakhi, Carter, Ferris and Elliotte.&nbsp;

Relationships and good times spent with friends and family are what mattered most to Darwin in his life. To honor his wishes to “host a party &amp; have a good time. Tell stories and jokes.” 

Darwin’s family will host a Celebration of Life in his honor October 29 from 1-3pm at the Kingman Activity Center in Kingman.&nbsp; All are welcome to attend and celebrate Darwin’s life of leadership, laughter and love.

Robert Lee Schmidt, 77, of Moundridge, formerly of Alligator, MS, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Pine Village retirement home. He was born August 25, 1945 in Montezuma, to Jesse and Frances (Yost) Schmidt. He attended Montezuma Grade School. His lifelong occupation was ag land forming. He was a member of Clarksdale Mennonite Church, Clarksdale, MS. Robert was married to Ardith Unruh on June 6, 1971 at Hesston, KS. He is survived by his wife, Ardith; children and grandchildren, Marilee (Brent) Gable, Brooke, Jeremy; Richard (Heather) Schmidt, Jake, Willa; Janette (Brandon) Schmidt, Elizabeth, James, Ethan, Caroline; Larry (Eileen) Schmidt, Kasey, Sienna, Kaylee, all of Clarksdale, MS; brothers, Elwin (Priscilla) Schmidt, Hesston, Laurel (Carolyn) Schmidt, Barnett, MO, Kenneth (Anita) Schmidt, David (Virginia) Schmidt, twin sister, Ruth (Walter) Toews, all of Montezuma; brothers-in-law, Rodney Koehn, Montezuma, and Dave (Phyllis) Yost, Moundridge. Louise Stuckey, 86, of Hutchinson, died October 6, 2022, peacefully at Wesley Towers. She was born August 27, 1936, in Hutchinson to Matthew and Ruth (Albright) Cain.

Louise graduated from Reno County High School (later Nickerson), in 1954. She was a caring homemaker while her children were growing up. After her children left home, she enjoyed selling furniture at a local furniture store. Music meant a lot to Louise; she displayed this by being an organist at church and with Hutchinson Broncs. She taught Sunday school and was a lifetime member of Nickerson United Methodist Church. Louise was also a member of the Nickerson Order of Eastern Star. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and sewing.

On November 14, 1954, she married J.B. Stuckey. They shared 61 years of marriage before his passing on May 30, 2015.

Louise is survived by: daughter, Debbie Binns (Greg), Hutchinson; son, David Stuckey (Jennifer), Abilene, TX; grandchildren, Kyle Binns (Roxanne), Brad Binns (Holly), Haley Stuckey, Jayton Stuckey; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Merrick, Abigail, Jack; sister, JoAnn Laughlin, Wichita; and close friend, Harold Henry, Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, J.B.; and sister, Joyce Sattler.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, with Rev. Dr. J. Ted Blakley officiating. Family will greet friends following the service. Friends may sign the book from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Gregg Matthew Bohren, 51, formerly of Hutchinson, died&nbsp;October 5, 2022,&nbsp;surrounded by his&nbsp;family after a series of medical complications, at Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville, TN. &nbsp;He was born November 10, 1970, in Omaha, NE, to Delmar Fredrick and Janet Ann (Webster) Bohren.

Gregg graduated from Pilgrim Christian High School, Hutchinson,&nbsp;received his bachelor’s degree from American Military University and was proudly working on his master’s degree from Liberty University. Gregg served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves, and was discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. &nbsp;He&nbsp;was currently working&nbsp;for Accenture&nbsp;as an Operational Account Lead&nbsp;and looking forward to moving back to Kansas. &nbsp;Gregg&nbsp;loved anything sports-related from the Nebraska Cornhusker football team to KU basketball, to the Kansas City Royals. &nbsp;Gregg was a life-long learner, and loved his family deeply.&nbsp;

On April 23, 2005, he married Carrie Reust, in Salt Lake City, UT. &nbsp;They shared 17 years of marriage.

David’s life began on February 16, 1951, in Strong City. He is the son of David Henry and Zetta Loretta (Hall) Ramsey. 

David graduated from Strong City High School in 1969 and continued his education at Flint Hills Technical School in Emporia. After Flint Hills, David went onto Emporia State University where he eventually earned his Master’s Degree in Education. He also participated in ROTC at Kansas State. He taught Industrial Arts at several area schools including Cottonwood Falls, Great Bend, Andover, White City, Pleasanton, and Valley Falls.

He was united in marriage to Ardith Jacobs on November 22, 1969, at the Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls. In addition to teaching, David was a rancher and cattleman. He loved his cattle and his horses that he treated like his pets. David served as an EMT on the Chase County ambulance. He was an active Mason, first in the Zeredatha Lodge # 80 in Cotton Wood Falls and then in the Advance Lodge #114 in Florence. He was a lifetime member of the Grand Lodge of Kansas and served as a delegate.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ardith of Elmdale; children John David Ramsey of Elmdale, Christina Marie (Jim) Mies of Valley Center, and Kyle Lee (Jennifer) Ramsey of Valley Center; grandchildren Danielle Powell, Brandon Powell, Katherina Ramsey, and Nicholas Ramsey; great grandchildren Aubrielle Mies and Landon Mies; his sister Loretta Hamilton of Omaha and nephew Gary Hamilton.

David passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday October 8, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Bobby “Bob” Ray Parker, 83, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Phillipsburg, KS, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 7, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Speed, KS on November 10, 1938, to Harley Eads Parker and Cora Mae (Thornton) Parker.&nbsp; Bob attended Speed Grade School through 8th&nbsp;grade but traveled to nearby Phillipsburg to attend Phillipsburg High School, graduating in 1956.&nbsp; Soon after graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego serving aboard the USS Lowe.

Bob often commented that he had worked all his life, and this consistent work history did define much of his life.&nbsp; When he was a high school student, he worked for the D.G. Hansen Construction Company out of Logan, KS.&nbsp; Then, after his years of service in the Navy, Bob returned home to Phillipsburg and soon began a 42-year career with Farmland offices in Phillipsburg, Waco, TX, Amarillo, TX, and finally, in McPherson where he retired in 2003.&nbsp; During this time with Farmland in McPherson, Bob and Cindy provided a cleaning service for the offices there.&nbsp; At the same time, Bob owned and operated several contract mail routes in the Central Kansas area.&nbsp;

Following his retirement from Farmland, Bob worked for a time at Walmart, when Walmart was hiring people to help with setting up the new Super Walmart.&nbsp; Bob also drove a newspaper delivery truck for the McPherson Sentinel when the Sentinel was still printing newspapers for area towns.&nbsp; He continued to work until declining health conditions finally forced him to retire from all work.&nbsp; He was then able to spend more time with his family, especially the grandchildren.&nbsp; He and Cindy took them on outings and attended many athletic events and activities.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed casino trips with his buddies, and loved cheering for the Jayhawks and Bullpups.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Cindy; two daughters: Loujena Cardenas and Kim Shields; two sons: Brad Parker and Brandon (Tiffany) Parker; grandchildren: Lacie Shields, Clayton (Sheena) Herrick, Trista (Jason) McGuire, Derek Shields, Tia (Josh) Goscha, Brittany (Allen) Haas, Cruise Parker, Cole Parker, and Mack Parker; thirteen great-grandchildren; three nephews and six nieces; brother-in-law Rev. Tim (Marcia) Pool; and sister-in-law Shelley Shirley.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents; his in-laws Dallas Pool and Esther Pool; his beloved sister Loretta and her husband Don Andrews; two sons-in-law Jim Shields and Leroy Cardenas; and brother-in-law Michael Clemens.

Bernice Helen Schletzbaum (Heidebrecht) was born on April 4, 1928 to Pete and Helen (Doerksen) Heidebrecht at Lake Inman. Bernice lived in McPherson county all her life and graduated from McPherson high school in 1946. 

On October 17, 1959 she married Arnold L. Schletzbaum at the McPherson Church of the Brethren. Bernice and Arnold attended Monitor Church of the Brethren in Conway, for many years. Arnold passed away on August 2, 2008. Bernice worked as an underwriting assistant at Farmer’s Alliance Insurance company for 44 years. Bernice and Arnold also farmed in McPherson county. She was a member of the Kansas Society of Insurance Women, National Association of Insurance Women, and a charter member of the Insurance Women of North Central Kansas. Bernice enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, and making quilts for each of her siblings. 

Bernice was proceeded in death by her husband Arnold, parents Pete and Helen, sisters Tillie Koehn and Sophie Neufeld, and nephew Curtis Crumpacker. Bernice is survived by her sisters Kate Redger and Shirley Dornberger, brother Pete Heidebrecht, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, McPherson.

She was born to Jack and Lila (Dodge) Hatfield in Kingman, on September 19, 1950. After graduating from Kingman High School she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, majoring in business administration. There she met Don Kliewer of Canton. The two were married in Canton on October 24, 1969. The couple was blessed with two sons, Danny and Jack. As the boys grew up, all of the neighborhood boys simply called her "Mom". Karen enjoyed cheering on her boys during football games; she was always their biggest fan and loudest supporter in the stands. She was employed by the McPherson County Farm Service Agency for 15 years and the Hillsboro Co-op for 10 years. Karen was a member of the Canton Community Church.

Survivors include her husband Don of the home; her two sons, Danny of Wichita, and Jack and his wife Sandy of Moundridge; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. A brother, Harlan Hatfield preceded her in death.

Karen Melita Kliewer  |1950-2022|  

Barbara Pearle Sheldon, 77, died October 7, 2022, at her home.&nbsp; She was born on June 13, 1945, in Wellington, KS, the daughter of Gilbert and Idotha (Patton) Cottle. Barbara grew up on a dairy farm near South Haven and graduated from South Haven High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwestern College in Winfield. While there, Barbara met Tom Sheldon, and they were married the day after her graduation, June 5, 1967. They shared 55 years of marriage.

Barbara earned a Master of Religious Education degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1969. She served as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at the Valley Center United Methodist Church for two years. In 1971, Barbara and Tom moved to Oxford where they lived 4 years, and added two daughters to the family.

In 1975, the Sheldon family moved to Syracuse where Tom was appointed to serve. While there, Barbara served as the church Pre-School Director for 5 years. In 1980, the family moved to Kechi and Barbara served as the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at University United Methodist Church in Wichita for 5 years.

In 1985, the family moved to Newton and Barbara began serving as an Associate Council Director for the Kansas West Conference.&nbsp; She served on the Conference Staff in various roles, including 4 years as Coordinator of Nurture, Outreach and Witness.&nbsp; While serving on the Conference Staff, she resourced hundreds of local churches with Christian education training events, visioning and goal setting, program planning, leadership development, staff team building, and consulting regarding matters ranging from personnel to building design.&nbsp; This ministry involved much travel over the western two-thirds of Kansas.

In 2004, Barbara served as the Interim Executive Director of Grace Med Health Clinic. She helped in selecting the new director, which turned out to be an excellent choice.&nbsp; Barbara also served as a Diaconal Minister, and then as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; The family served at the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for 6 years, Mulvane church for 10 years and Great Bend for 3 more years.&nbsp; Barbara retired in 2012, making Hutchinson her and Tom’s home.

Barbara is survived by: her husband, Tom of the home; daughters, Lori Sheldon of Haviland and Robin Reed and husband Joe of Albuquerque, NM; grandsons, Matthew Schrag, Ethan Reed, and Quinn Reed; brother, John Cottle and wife, Janice of Enid, OK; sister, Joan Orr of Sedan; foster brother, Richard Geier and wife Donna of Rose Hill; son-in-law, Steve Schrag; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marsha Cottle.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Rome, KS (which is south of Wellington). Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Barbara Pearle Sheldon, 77, died October 7, 2022, at her home.&nbsp; She was born on June 13, 1945, in Wellington, KS, the daughter of Gilbert and Idotha (Patton) Cottle. Barbara grew up on a dairy farm near South Haven and graduated from South Haven High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwestern College in Winfield. While there, Barbara met Tom Sheldon, and they were married the day after her graduation, June 5, 1967. They shared 55 years of marriage.Barbara earned a Master of Religious Education degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1969. She served as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at the Valley Center United Methodist Church for two years. In 1971, Barbara and Tom moved to Oxford where they lived 4 years, and added two daughters to the family.In 1975, the Sheldon family moved to Syracuse where Tom was appointed to serve. While there, Barbara served as the church Pre-School Director for 5 years. In 1980, the family moved to Kechi and Barbara served as the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at University United Methodist Church in Wichita for 5 years.In 1985, the family moved to Newton and Barbara began serving as an Associate Council Director for the Kansas West Conference.&nbsp; She served on the Conference Staff in various roles, including 4 years as Coordinator of Nurture, Outreach and Witness.&nbsp; While serving on the Conference Staff, she resourced hundreds of local churches with Christian education training events, visioning and goal setting, program planning, leadership development, staff team building, and consulting regarding matters ranging from personnel to building design.&nbsp; This ministry involved much travel over the western two-thirds of Kansas.In 2004, Barbara served as the Interim Executive Director of Grace Med Health Clinic. She helped in selecting the new director, which turned out to be an excellent choice.&nbsp; Barbara also served as a Diaconal Minister, and then as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; The family served at the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for 6 years, Mulvane church for 10 years and Great Bend for 3 more years.&nbsp; Barbara retired in 2012, making Hutchinson her and Tom’s home.Barbara is survived by: her husband, Tom of the home; daughters, Lori Sheldon of Haviland and Robin Reed and husband Joe of Albuquerque, NM; grandsons, Matthew Schrag, Ethan Reed, and Quinn Reed; brother, John Cottle and wife, Janice of Enid, OK; sister, Joan Orr of Sedan; foster brother, Richard Geier and wife Donna of Rose Hill; son-in-law, Steve Schrag; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and her many friends.She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marsha Cottle.Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Ralph John Espinoza, 73, of Wichita, died October 6, 2022, at his home. He was born November 30, 1948, in Hutchinson, to Fred and Mary (Botello) Espinoza.

Ralph graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended KU. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1969. Ralph was a paint and body by trade up until he retired. In his younger years Ralph was a DJ and had a radio broadcasting license. He loved movies and music. Ralph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wichita.

On July 27, 1970, he married Victoria Vieyra. They later divorced and she died May 29, 2002. On November 30, 1985, Ralph married Geralyn E. Duarte. She survives.

Also surviving are: his children, Ricco (Nikki) Espinoza of Oak Point, TX, Mario (Angelica) Espinoza of Kyle, TX, Gino (Lacy) Espinoza of Kyle, TX; Shawna Stroupe of Phoenix, AZ; Jessica Espinoza, of Parkville, MO, Alexandra (Ethan) Williams of Wichita; sister, Rose (Larry) McElderry of Wichita; brother, Michael Espinoza of Wichita; grandchildren, Benjamin Dick, Marcos Coronado, Belicia Espinoza, Asia Logsdon, Siera Logsdon, Noah Stroupe, Liam Stroupe, Xavier Maafala, David Torres, Dan Torres, Sofia Espinoza, Aya Williams; great-grandchildren, Jett, Ike, Victoria Rose; and many extended family members.

Velma May Trinkle, 100, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Parkwood Village. She was born on September 29, 1922 in Preston to Henry W. and Ida (Scheele) Briggeman. Velma married Merle John Trinkle on May 15, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Natrona. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2011. Velma graduated from Preston High School and had gone on to attend Pratt Junior College. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was confirmed in March of 1935 and Bethany Guild. Velma was a retired Sears Employee and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, being outside mowing and tending to her garden. She is survived by her son, Morgan (Deb) Trinkle of Preston; grandchildren, Angela Trinkle of Gainesville, Texas and Sheila (Steve) Lunsford of Preston; and great-grandsons, Tyler Jon Reimer of Preston and Dylan Merle Reimer of Pratt. Norma Lee (Parten) Bright, age 92 passed away on Oct. 5, 2022 at Legend Senior Living, Hutchinson.  She was born on Sept. 30, 1930 at Kembro, the daughter of Carl and Ruth Ione (Mann) Parten.  She was a homemaker and long- time resident of St. John. 

 Her memberships included First Baptist Church, Mothers Club, Red Hats and Hesperian Club.  On June 27, 1948 she married John Russell Bright at Beaver, he passed away on Feb. 2, 2015.  Survivors include two sons, Mike (Alicia) Bright, Napa, CA., Keith (Kathleen) Bright, Hutchinson; four daughters, Connie (Bruce) Carey, Sterling, Carol (Don) McLeod, Carthage, MO., Coette (Robert) Lewis, Wichita, Carmen (Steven) Hamilton, Northville, MI; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jan Parten, St. John.  She was preceded in death by her husband Russell; three brothers, Wayne, Kenneth and Marvin Parten. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022 from 1-7 PM at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with family present from 5-7 PM.

Dr. Roger Ray Tobias, passed away on October 5, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Roger was born in Lyons, on June 2, 1951, to Raymond and Elma Tobias. 

He was a 1969 graduate of Lyons High School and a 1973 graduate of Kansas University School of Business before attending Kansas University School of Medicine. In 1976 he was a member of the second graduating class from the Kansas University School of Medicine-Wichita campus. Roger was a devoted husband to Debbie, married July 27, 1974, in the Danforth Chapel on the Kansas University campus in Lawrence. He was a Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force, stationed at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines from 1977 to 1980. Roger and Debbie returned to Kansas to complete his Family Practice Residency at St Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Dr. Tobias then moved his young family to Lyons, and served Rice County residents for over 35 years. In 2017 he retired from a career in medicine to full-time farming south of Lyons. 

A lifelong member of the Lyons First United Methodist Church, he served as a Trustee, Lay Leader, Sunday School teacher, and Choir member. Roger served on many boards including U.S.D. 405 School Board, and the Lyons High School Endowment Association. As President of the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians, he authored “Where Have all the Doctor’s Gone?” which spearheaded a campaign establishing a program to incentivize family practice physicians choosing to live and work in rural Kansas. His most important life’s work was as Father to his three children and Grandfather to his six grandchildren. 

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elma. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter Adrienne (Damon Schmadeke) of Viera, Florida; son Adam (Laura) of Tipp City, Ohio; son Aaron (Kimberly) of Clearwater; grandchildren Lana, Danica, and Derek Schmadeke, Mia Tobias, and Morgan and Caleb Tobias; sister Susie (Drew Adamson) and brother Curtis (Susan). 

Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Joyce Darlene Enlow, 83, of Lyons, passed away October 4, 2022, at her home. She was born June 20, 1939, in Ellsworth, the daughter of George B. and Georgia Hoffman Campbell. 

Joyce was a lifetime Lyons resident. She attended Ellsworth High School. She was a Dietary Manager at Hospital District #1 of Rice County for 43 years. Joyce enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, quilting, hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. On July 6, 1954, Joyce was united in marriage with Ralph G. Enlow in Lyons. 

He preceded her in death on January 11, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents; ten siblings, and grandson, Shawn Enlow. Joyce is survived by her son David Enlow and wife Angie of Lyons; two sisters, Margaret Morgart of Sterling, and Velma Hart of Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Sandy Bradley and husband Jason of Wichita, KS, Amber Tafolla and husband Josh of Hutchinson, and Tiffany Groth of Hutchinson; and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating. The family suggests memorials be given to Birzer Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.

Lois Ferm, 94, of Lindsborg passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at home.  Lois was born January 16, 1928 in Halstead, to the late Gustav and the late Ella (Penner) Wiebe.  She married Landvis Ferm on January 18, 1947 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg and was a member throughout her life.  

Lois was confirmed at the First Mennonite Church of Halstead.  She came to Lindsborg her senior year and graduated at Lindsborg High School.  When the children were all in school, she went work as a CMA at Bethany Home.

Lois was involved in many clubs and organizations including Westside Club, American Legion Post #140 Auxiliary, Johnathan Club, card club, Jolly Mixers, and Prairie Sunbonnet Doll Club.  She was also a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader.

She is survived by daughters: Leanne Martin of Griffin, GA, and Lori Johnson of Sunrise Beach, MO; son: Lesley Ferm of Roxbury, KS; grandchildren: Jesse (Shana) Koorse, Kyrrha Martin, Jace (Lindsay) Martin, Julie (Alan) Ramsdale, Patrick Cox, Parker Johnson, and Brennan Johnson; and 8 great grandchildren.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 73 years: Landvis E. Ferm; daughters: Lana Cox and Lisa Ferm; brothers: Gustav, Carl, and John Wiebe; sister: Edna Lohr; and grandson: Michael Wheeler.

Cremation has been chosen.  A graveside service will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 23 at Smoky Hill Cemetery, Lindsborg, with Pastor Ben Fulton officiating. A time of fellowship and a meal will follow at American Legion Post #140, 524 E. State St., Lindsborg.

Ferm; daughters: Lana Cox and Lisa Ferm; brothers: Gustav, Carl, and John Wiebe; sister: Edna Lohr; and grandson: Michael Wheeler.Cremation has been chosen. Alan Dean Schwertfeger, 71, was born in Preston, to Hilmer Ernest and Mildred Mae (Miskimen) Schwertfeger. 

He passed away at his home in Hutchinson, October 3, 2022. Dean loved acting and directing in the stage theatre programs and chocolate ice cream. He had recently moved back from San Diego to Hutchinson to be with his family. 

Alan is survived by his brother, Harlan G. Schwertfeger; nieces, Amy and Audra; nephew, Travis and his great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; Hilmer and Mildred; brothers, Leroy E, Carl Wayne and David D. 

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Steven Lee Schriner, Jr., 39, of Lindsborg, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at Ascension via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita due to complications of a car accident. He was born November 9, 1982 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Steven Lee Schriner, Sr, and Kathryn Elaine (Stier) Schriner. He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 2001. Steven later graduated from North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit. Steven worked for Rainbow Trucking Inc. as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Steven and Anna Wagoner welcomed four children together. She survives along with their children, Sky Schriner of Lawrence, and Jayce Schriner, Baylee Schriner and Blayne Schriner of Moundridge. He is also survived by sons, Easton and Emerson; mother, Kathy Schriner of Grove, Oklahoma; father, Steven Lee Schriner Sr. of Marquette; brother, Brandon Lee Schriner of Joplin, MO; and paternal grandmother, Judy Schriner of Marquette. Steven enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved to make people smile and laugh. He was considered the life of the party! Steven lived his life to the fullest and to the extreme. Above all, he loved spending his time with his kids. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Marlin Schriner; and maternal grandparents, Danny and June Stier. Family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2022 at West Zion Mennonite Church, with funeral services immediately following. Ronald Lloyd Ringer 87, of Medicine Lodge, died October 4, 2022 at Hilltop Manor Nursing Center, Cunningham.

He was born on September 24, 1935 at Wichita, the son of Lloyd Ringer and Erma (Elliott) Ringer. Ron was a natural salesman and when he was five years old, living in Wichita, he loaded his wagon and walked with a wagonload of newspapers to sell to the waste paper company, well over a mile away. When Ron was six, the family moved to the farm north of Harry on Maize Road. His father gave him his first Guernsey calf and he used his tips as a caddie at Westlink Country Club to buy more cattle. The family milked Guernsey cows and sold raw milk. Ron would run his milk route before school. The family was active in the Registered Guernsey Association and had a photo taken with his boys and father, Lloyd, with J.C. Penney at the state Guernsey sale. Moving to the Cheney area, when raw milk was outlawed, he became an investor in Cream O Gold Dairy in Hutchinson and owned the Wichita distributorship running five retail delivery routes.

Ron went to work after the dairy business for S.C. Johnson &amp; Son and traveled Southwest Kansas calling on warehouses and grocery stores. It was during this time that he fell in love with the Medicine Lodge area. He was asked to open a food brokerage for a company. His son, Rodney was working for another brokerage company when they decided to open their own partnership.

After selling the company for his first retirement he was bored and purchased R&amp;R Liquor at Central &amp; Anna in Wichita. After selling that business and retiring for the second time, he was bored again and purchased Sportsman Wine &amp; Spirits in Garden Plain. After buying land in Barber County, the store was sold for a third retirement. Building a new home in Barber County he opened The Bunkhouse at Wildfire Ranch Bed &amp; Breakfast. Always being a people person the B&amp;B had guests from 47 States, 30 countries, and over 250 towns in Kansas with many becoming regular visitors and friends. He retired for the fourth time at the end of 2020.

Ronald and Charlotte were never shy about making big changes in their lives and doing things with their family while they were young. Working hard and trusting in the Lord they lived a full life together. Ronald married Charlotte (Becker) Ringer, who he met at Rock Springs 4-H Ranch, 196 miles from home, even though they lived six miles from each other. They were married 68 years.

Ron was preceded in death by father Lloyd, mother Erma (Elliott) Ringer, and brother Randal. Ron is survived by wife Charlotte, sons Roger and Rodney. Brother in Law Charles Becker, sister in law Gladys Kerschen, Aunt Shirley (Elliott) Hoppock, cousins Sheila (Bill) Roepka, Mark Davis, Marilyn (Elliott) Ralph Snook, Royce (Penny) Elliott, Jill (Gossard) Jeff Foster, Sue (Gossard) Miller, Mike (Polly) Hoppock, and Doug (Nancy) Hoppock.

Rosary service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medicine Lodge, on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Schulte, KS on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11am. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery Schulte.

Linda A. Buss, 69, died Oct. 5, 2022 at her home in Spivey, Kansas.

She was born Dec. 23, 1952, at Wichita the daughter of Jacob and Elva Keller Lorenz, Jr.&nbsp; A Spivey resident since 1998, she retired from the weapons maintenance in the Kansas Air National Guard.

On Dec. 30, 1982, she married Michael Buss at Wichita.&nbsp; Other survivors include a step-daughter Ruth A. Talavera; and a brother Max Lorenz.

Jr passed away on October 3, 2022 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center at the age of 86.&nbsp; He was born on June 19, 1936 in Wichita, the youngest of three children to Leslie Angel Sr. and Delphia (Daniels) Honemann.&nbsp; He also had three step brothers and 1 step sister.&nbsp; Jr married the love of his life, Viola on December 24, 1968 in Miami, OK.&nbsp; They spent 55 incredible years together until her passing in March of this year.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; They were blessed with seven children; Rocky Angel, Jean Angel (Rocket Ryals), Jeffrey Angel, Melinda Webb (Jack), Randy Jenkins (Janet), Felecia Danielski (Don) and Marty Otto.&nbsp; They have 11 grandsons and 9 granddaughters as well as numerous great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Jr and Vi were owner operators of Jr Angel Construction Company.&nbsp; They did all the concrete work and built numerous metal buildings throughout the central United States.&nbsp; In his retirement years he worked just as hard building houses and garages on the land he owned for over 55 years.&nbsp; He loved to fish, hunt, garden, drive racecars and mostly spend time with friends and family. &nbsp;He never met a stranger.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife Viola; his parents, Leslie Angel and Delphia Honemann; brothers, Gene and Marty Angel; sister, Lea Angel; children, Jeffrey Angel and Rocky Angel.

Barbara Jane Roberts, 92, of Hutchinson, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022.&nbsp;

Barbara was born on October 31, 1929, to William Washington Burris and Lois Hunt. She spent her childhood in the College Hill area of Wichita. After graduating from Wichita East High School, she attended Stephens Girls College and Kansas State University.&nbsp;

She married Charles Roberts on April 6, 1951, in Dodge City. They had two children, David Eric and Anna Jane.&nbsp;

Barbara had many adversities to overcome in her life, but also many adventures. She traveled a great deal, fostering relationships with wonderful people around the world. She also volunteered extensively, helping in schools, universities, hospitals, and churches.&nbsp;

Barbara is survived by her two children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Wesley Towers Evans Chapel, 3709 Asbury Place, Hutchinson.&nbsp; &nbsp;
